And Elsie's smile is kinda freaking you out. I mean, normally El smiling is a GOOD thing in your books.

Right now it looks as much like she's baring her teeth as happy.

"Not to us." You tell her. "Need to have a little talk with the team later though."

".... So does that mean you're ready for your punishment?"

"..... Be gentle." You request, which is answered only by laughter.

A few minutes later, the two of you are in the simulators. your core is limited to a super-lightweight model built for speed. You also note that she hasn't given you any weapons.

"Give you a headstart." She tells you, as you pop into the simulator. you've never seen this map before, but there's a lot of Pillars standing in the forest. You also note that you're standing on a pad in a clearing, and the edges of the forest are a huge caldera. "Rules are simple. Escape the valley and we quit."

"That's.... that's not going to happen, is it?"

"Your pod's been set to give you a little.... incentive every time you need to restart."

"THIS DOES NOTHING TO COMFORT MEEEE!" You yell, launching yourself into the forest. You REMEMBER Elsie's brand of encouragement. Elsie's encouragement made Sells take her off the drill roster.

You stumble slightly and an entire chunk of forest to your left vanishes in a hellish flash of light.

"That's NOT your gun!"

"Nah, I figured I'd play around a bit. This is just the gun I want to get someday. Costs almost a million dollars and has advanced ballistics computing inbuilt."

"Whoa wait, they have guns with built in ballistics SPUs?"

"Yep. At extreme ranges they can boost accuracy by sixty percent." she tells you. "I just kinda went crazy with this build. Advanced thermals, target trackers, advanced rangefinders. Figured I'd take the chance to play around with my options."

"So why am I not already dead?"

"Because the MAC derivative needs a few seconds to cycle the load and build a charge." She tells you.

"MAC... derived....."

Elsie has a compact and overcharged Rail gun.

"Right. Left's for flag of affiliation." You tell her, rubbing your arm unconsciously. "At least, that's the normal standard, with the Berets and proper uniforms."

You crash violently back into the woods onto your back, and desperately start scripting.

Thankfully you can't get a real synch going, but that means you cant just crawl away. You have to teach your core how to crawl by splicing AMBAC subroutines into attack protocols and remapping the controls.

You wonder if you even have the time to fix it before Elsie reloads and brings her scope back down.

"Oh damn." She laughs. "Don't worry, I'll help you get over that. Respawn will make this easier on you."

You can hear her computer get a targeting solution. Just in time for you to execute your new command.

You feel a heavy shudder and the pod spins sideways as Elsie curses, confused into the coms. "Oh what the hell? you fired all of your thrusters to throw yourself out of the way?" A moment of silence as she tries to find you through her scope. "And behind a PILLAR?! how did you do the math that quickly?"

To be fair saying that someone "wouldn't die, even when they're killed" is actually a figure of speech in Japanese used to mean that they're really fucking tough. "Shoot her to death without killing her!" is just an example of the fact that One Piece is like one giant piratey acid trip.

The impact snaps you against your harness so hard you can feel your arm pop out of socket.

After a minute of hanging, upside down you hear a noise, and a hatch opens. "Alex, what the fuck did you do to my simulator?" Mooch asks, completely bewildered.

Behind him, you can see part of the hangar, twisted at a different angle than your inner ear claims it's at.

"I am very bad at dying." I tell him.

He pushes his welding goggles up onto his face with a wrench as he stares at me. "I need to see the footage for this."

"I'll talk to Elsie about it. By the way, Tony called asking about a loan. We need to talk to everyone about that."

"Yeah, sure." He responds, and then leaves. He comes back a moment later with a ladder, and helps you get down.

You climb out of the pod, and see Ken sitting in an office chair eating a cheeseburger. "Mind getting me a drink?"

"Uh.... sure?" You say, looking at him. "Why me though?"

"You destroyed my last one." he tells you, with a nod to the exploded workbench where he was clearly having lunch before you came through the wall and crushed it.

You nod sheepishly, and walk up the stairs. As you do so, Elsie walks out of the sim room and looks at you. "What just happened?"

"I am too awesome for simulators."

"What?" She asks, looking at the obvious trail of destruction as you continue up the stairs. "Alex, that's not an answer."

You hesitate at the door and slam your arm into the frame, putting the dislocated shoulder back. You bite your lip to avoid screaming out as your vision turns white for a split second, before grabbing a Coke out of the fridge and turning to head back down.

"Alex, are you alright?" Elsie asks, from the doorway.

"Fine, why?"

"You just drove a simulator through a wall and dropped it a good thirty feet."

"Actually I CRASHED the simulator. If that was intentional it would've been more graceful."

"No jokes." She says, walking up and looking you over. "Did you get hurt at all?"

"My arm hurt like a bitch when I popped it back into place, but I can barely feel it anymore." You tell her.

She smacks you and makes you sit down. "Alright, does this have something to do with your attempt to hack it?"

"I wasn't hacking the simulator, just the control system." You tell her. "I just don't think the sim was ever designed with attempting things like that in mind." you hesitate. "I actually can't see why anyone would even TRY to program that sort of functionality in, stopping to think."

She sighs dramatically. "Well, I don't think anything I'd do to you now could possibly measure up to what you just did to yourself."

"So I'm off the hook?"

"... Yeah." she says, sitting down next to you. "Kinda petty of me anyways."

Equally concerning second note: We've had to tell our Mother about Elsie's dead family like three different times. Not counting when she did it.

There's also the fact that It was 3 P.M. at the bottom of the last thread, and now it's 9 A.M. afterwards. The same day.

The dice demand blood
>>
You pop your head over the divide and sight in on the target. You feel your arm catch fire as you're thrown backwards. It wasn't a direct hit, thankfully, but the blood and the pain mean it doesn't have to be.

Mooch snatches the gun as you fall and places three rounds rapid downrange. "Shit. He's gone." He sighs, turning to you. "You alright Alex?"

Before you can formulate an answer, Elsie comes running down the stairs. "What happened?"

"Ken was an imposter." You tell her. "Didn't take kindly to me calling his bluff."

She looks at your arm, and then back to you. "How bad does it hurt?"

[X] I found a way to kill time!
But now there's somehow more time to kill than before.
>>
"I found a way to kill time!"

"By getting shot?"

"Yeah, hospitals are time consuming. Also we were mind-fucked into thinking we gained like five hours for some reason. I un-fucked that, I think."

"Wait... what?" Elsie looks at you confused. "Alex, you're not making any sense."

"Well- nope, never-mind, here comes the pain." You tell her, as a sudden onset of pain makes you pass out.

You find yourself standing in a grassy field, with an intense looking young man in front of you. "You need to stop trusting him if you want to survive what's coming." He says, almost in greeting. Despite the facts that his lips never move.

>Actions?

Go for a high five, or a headbut.
>>
>>22597010
Who are you, where am I who do I need to stop trusting, what's coming, why do we park on driveways and drive on parkways?

"If he hasn't explained anything, then that's all the moire reason to ignore what he says."

Before you can choke him for his insolence, you wake up in the hospital with your shirt off, and bandages covering most of your left arm.

"Are you alright Alex?" Elsie asks, concerned.

"I guess?" You tell her. "I can't really feel my arm. What did the Doctor say?"

"He managed to get all the pellets out of your arm." She tells you, handing you a small jar filled with metal BBs. "He also made us fill out an incident release."

"Incident release?"

"Federal law still requires hospitals to let local cops know when someone comes in with bullet wounds." She tells you with a sigh. "But hey, on the plus side we can probably still catch a movie or something. You've only been out for about an hour."

You hear her stomach growl. "... Or maybe we can get some damn lunch."

"Sounds good actually."

"Hit up the diner?"

"Better than cooking." She responds with a shrug. After speaking with the doctor who puts your arm in a sling, the two of you wander out of the hospital. At the diner, marge gives you a concerned look, but calms down when you tell her you're fine.

Elsie also insists on helping you eat, which you find... vaguely irritating. it's not like you're suddenly an invalid, it took your LEFT arm after all. She seems happy though, so you try not to focus on it too hard. Delicious Cheeseburger is your reward for patience, while Elsie digs into some kind of baked chicken casserole... thing.

You get a tone from your com, telling you that you apparently missed some calls while you were in the hospital.

[ ] Return Mom's call.

[ ] Return Ari's call.

The daughter of dave's friend. We saved her a few times.
>>
Checking the message, you find only two lines of text:

'Don't sweat the details, we can't do everything.'

'Just remember: It's all Math.'

You consider showing it to Elsie, but it deletes itself before you can say anything. Musing over it though, something.... resonates, but doesn't quite manage to mean anything substantial.

>Actions?

Call people back, they're worried about us. Start with Mom, then Ari, then Cass.
>>
>>22597930
That sounds decent.
>>
>>22597930
Agreed
>>
You call your Mother, who tells you that Mooch told her there was some kind of accident involving work. You inform her that your arm was hurt, but you'll be fine.

Ari says something similar, and you add on a request to pass along to Dave about needing to have a quick team meeting tonight.

When you get Cass on the line, she apologizes for how she was acting the other day, and sheepishly asks how things were going. You tell her things are going fine other thn a sall injury to your arm. She demands to know what happened, and then apologized for getting angry, and then apologizing for apologizing so much without letting you get a word in edgewise. The conversation comes to an abrupt end when you hear Molly's voice in the background, followed by a whistling noise like something small becoming airborne and an abrupt dial-tone.

>Actions?

Just to clarify that was the sound of the phone being thrown by Cass not like a dagger being thrown at her? It's hard to tell with Molly and Cass
>>
>>22598377

Yeah, I think Cass' phone was launched by the endless pile of fucking spaghetti flying out of her everything

I laughed at the mental image a bit.
>>

Assuming that is indeed the case and we don't need to go rescue her again, lets go back to the hanger and find out what the Ken is an infiltrator fallout is.

Incidentally, we're on page 7 at this point.

So did AC-Guy crash? He seemed a lot less eloquent in those last couple posts.
