After defeating a gigantic dragonoid by fruit of chance and wit, you were greeted by a mysterious maiden who offered shelter and help should you listen to her request. Eventually you figured out her true identity- One of the true dragons, a silver-scaled one to be precise. Her request, to your amazement, was that you helped her end the reign of the Chromatic Dragons in the continent.

Upon accepting, you went through a ritual in which you swore an oath of fealty to the dragon's patron God, Bahamut. This effectively bound your soul to hers, meaning that she can't be escaped from, but also that she can resurrect you should you happen to perish in battle.

Following the ritual, you are to absorb the dragonstone of the creature you defeated, alongside Elloy and Velkins. This will enhance your abilities, as well as provide you an as-of-yet unknown boon that soon you shall find out.

"Lo, the dragonstone that once was Oskualin the Exile!" Ingeir drops the levitating stone before the three of you, the jewel still burning with the inner fire from before. Several dozen kobolds have gathered on the large ritual chamber, curious at what will happen now.

"To absorb his power, thou hast but to touch the stone. I shalt do the rest." The three of you approach the stone, Elloy placing his palm first, you after him, and Velkins lagging behind for some seconds, still hesitant.

Then, the silver dragon in human shape begins to chant, speaking words in draconic. As she does so, you feel your palm burn. You watch as the flames inside the dragonstone flow towards you and your comrades, seeping inside your body and filling you with empowering vigor.

Immediately, you begin to feel the effects. Your muscles tighten, your eyesight sharpens, and the wound on your shoulder from before disappears entirely. The robes on you stop weighing altogether from how powerful you feel.

"...I feel like I could take down seven of those mountain trolls we once encountered, Miles!" You're inclined to agree with him, although you would rather use the power to run away seven times faster.

"That is not the only benefit it will bring you." As the silver priestess speaks, you realize her way of talking has changed. Wait... she's speaking draconic! "As the dragonstone essence sinks into your body, you will obtain abilities that combine your soul with the dragon's magic. ...For us dragons, it would normally empower our breath, or our natural qualities. We cannot learn abilities not of our element. You humans, however, are different."

"Alright! Tell me then, fair cave-maiden," Elloy replied in fluent draconic. "how do we make these powers manifest?"

You see the woman twitch, and are pretty sure that if she weren't in such a dire situation she would already be hanging him upside down from a stalagmite. "You are already using them, sir Elloy of the loose tongue. You only need focus more in your own self. Difficult, I understand, for one such as yourself."

"Bah! Child's play!" Elloy takes mock offense at the retort, and then sits down cross-legged. When you see him close his eyes and start frowning really hard, you are tempted to speak up. However, an explosion interrupts your train of thought, and you turn to look at one of the chamber's walls, smoking from a fiery explosion.

Velkins whistles as he puts down his crossbow. "Exploding bolts? I'd better prepare a solid amount of these."

Seeing that both of your comrades have begun to have their fun, you decide to start yourself. You close your eyes, and start to focus in your own magic. You feel it, then. The dragon- Oskualin's fiery essence burning inside you. As you become aware of it, it starts taking shape...

>Alright, here's the deal. Being the main character, you get to customize your power-ups. Absorbing Oskualin's dragonstone grants you two free powerful spells, which must be related to fire. It also grants you a utility spell, which can basically be anything non-combat related or minor. For example, a teleportation spell which would take minutes to cast. Your Protection spell also gains magical resistance! Still does fuckall against breaths though.

>Also, sorry for the delay. Shit happened.

>2 Combat Spells
Fireball, for one. A good old standby. Power it up by combining it with forcebolt. Dude, we put an explosion in your explosion so you can detonate while you burninate.

Ray of Fire. A pencil-thin ray of magma-level fire shot from our index finger, hot enough and strong enough to punch through 3 inches of steel and melt through rock.

>utility
Teleport actually sounds pretty damn useful. Can we make it so that we can write down a teleportation circle to speed it up?
Like, Type 1 is your regular teleport, which takes 5 minutes to cast.
Type 2 uses teleport circles, up to 4 at a time, that we can key ourselves to and can teleport between in a second. Range is no greater than 1 mile.
>>
>>22864592
Type 2 is theoretically possible, but range would be smaller (few hundred meters) since you need to keep the circles alive with your life-force. Also due to the different nature I'd make you pick one over the other.

If we take the Type 2, could we use teleport circles written onto scrolls?
So we could slip the circle under a door, or slap one onto the bottom of a cart, or have Velkins deliver one through a window via an arrow?

How about something more close-ranged like burning hands? We can handle long range with firebolt+forcebolt but close we're kind of shitty. Or maybe some fire shield or enchant weapons with flame. Something for our close-range is my proposal.

white phosphorus, thermite, napalm, oil, there are so many things you can add to fire spells to make them more killy
>>
So, ideas so far:

>Fireball: Hurled projectile that explodes on impact, creating an explosion large enough to clear a modest room. (2 uses per day)
>White Phosphorus Bolt: Bolt that upon impact turns into white phosphorus, which is then scattered over the area as a cloud, slowly drifting to the floor if left alone. Can be ignited as soon as it is cast or later, and goes off very quickly, expelling smoke and burning phosphorus flakes. (4 uses per day)
>Ray of Fire: A pencil-thin ray of magma-level fire shot from our index finger, hot enough and strong enough to punch through 3 inches of steel and melt through rock. Long range, but loses power as range extends. Unlimited casts.
>Type 1 Teleport: Travel from Point X to Point Y instantaneously as long as you have been in point Y before. Takes 5 minutes to cast.
>Type 2 Teleport: Create magical circles that may be taken no further than 500 meters away from you. These can be written on any surface, you may create up to 4 at a time, and you can teleport instantly between each point.
>>
>>22865008
Well, not instantly. It's still possible for someone to shoot you with a crossbow bolt if they're expecting you before you can blink out.

You grab at the dragon's elemental energy within your soul. As if your hand was closing down on then, you crush it under your spirit... and make it yours. Your mind blooms open with knowledge, and immediately the seized power takes the form of two spells. It is an enlightening feeling, learning a spell without having to do any kind of meditation.

Opening your eyes, you turn towards one of the chamber's walls and hold out your finger once you're at a modest distance. Immediately after, a thin torrent of white-hot fire impacts against it, melting through it in an instant and leaving a smouldering red hole.

Velkins arches an eyebrow. "Looks powerful, but don't you already have something to deal with individual enemies? Seems like a waste." He crosses his arms, frowning. You, however, smile at him.

"I have something else, but I can't really use it here and risk blowing up our base." He looks surprised at this. His explosive bolts did little to a room as massive as this besides some rubble and cinders, thinking that you have something stronger makes him just slightly more wary of your abilities than before.

"I did it! Hahahahaha!" Elloy speaks up, swinging his longsword now enveloped in bright flames around the room.

>Elloy can now set his blade on fire. This doesn't just burn enemies, it also makes his blade able to burn through thick surfaces. A drawback of this is that it cannot bleed enemies. He can, however, cleave through some of them due to less resistance and his heightened strength.
>Velkins can now prepare explosive bolts. It takes about 1 minute for him to prepare one. His normal bolts can also be instantaneously tipped in flame to set pelts and other flammables on fire.
>You can ignite all of these with White phosphorus.

(cont'd.)

Oskualin wasn't a red dragon, but he had a fire breath. Supposing you kill a red dragon, you'd not only get the potential for an even mightier fire spell, you'd probably also get something related to whatever magics the red specialized in. And yes, killing a blue dragon would get you something lightning-related. Note that not all dragonstones will be big enough for all three of you to share, though.
>>

>Oskualin wasn't a red dragon
oh? I assume he was because of "The pile of corpses collapsed as something stomped past its side, not bothering to evade the mountain of flesh. It walked on fat, stubby legs, whose dull red scales meshed in with the dried blood of the dead. Powerful claws dug into the rock floor, carving small holes on it. Two demonic-looking eyes flared from a huge draconic head, nostrils spewing ash and embers as its fangs contorted in a monstruous sneer. Two small wings on its upper back flapped with each step, apparently useless. A long, scaled tail swished left and right from the end of the monster's length, menacingly knocking everything in the room it touched away. "

After becoming acquainted with your powers (and showing off your second spell to your allies in a much more controlled area), the silver released you from her watch, telling you that she had to look into the information her servants had collected of the continent before giving you any further missions. Until then, you were free to do what you wished with your time.

Before anything else, you decided to gather the leftovers of Oskualin's energy and with it learn one of the more advanced spells of your school which you had brought with you. It essentially enabled you to craft teleportation circles within a small range, which allowed you to teleport instantaneously between them.

With that done, you are now free to do what you wish until Ingeir returns. Elloy seems to wish to return to Armadia and splurge the coins you retrieved from Oskualin's horde, now tomb; Velkins also wants to return to civilization, as he does not enjoy eating insects and talking with tiny lizardmen all day.

You could join them, or try talking with said tiny lizardmen. You could also do something else, like exploring the various sites the tunnels connect to, though that could spell temporary death for you.

What will you do?
>>
>>22865631
Oh yes, he was from the family, but he was more of the "Black Sheep" kind of the family. Though strong, he wasn't very intelligent or wise, running on sheer greed like a bunch of women on a discount day at a shopping center.
>>
>>22865709
Now that we've been drafted into a war between demi-gods and dragons, getting back to civilization in order to purchase better magical weapons and armor, as well as this setting's equivalent of a Handy Haversack or Bag of Holding, is probably in order.
>>
>>22865709

>>
>>22865764
>>22865904
You decide to join your friends and head towards Armadia. After a quick talk with the kobolds on guard duty, you locate the tunnel that heads out of the continent. Packing several bags of coin into the cart prepared for you, you talk with Elloy and Velkins as some hours pass by, until you finally arrive.

The exit of the tunnel puts you at the foot of the Darasvern mountain range, on the Armadian side. The entrance as it is is cleverly hidden under several shrubs and fake walls, so you place a marker under the bushes to remind yourself of where it's located. A path from the clearing you're in leads to one of the roads, and after asking directions from the kobolds you're well on your way to Arkheist, the capital of this region of the empire.

Arkheist is a medium-sized city of 6,500 people, ruled by the Count Karl Ornstoffen. It is popular for its smiths, who choose to live near the metal-rich mountains of the Armadian-Darasvern frontier. It is also a popular gathering place for brigands and criminals, but that is to be expected of every large city. Unfortunately for you, there is little in form of the Ruthelian schools within its walls, but magical tools come in all forms, not just Ruthelian, regardless.

You are broken out of your thoughts by the clicking of hooves, just as the sun is beginning to set. You lift your head at the same time as your friends, and you see a band of five horsemen, all of them armoured in leather and carrying a weapon of some sort.

"Brigands," Velkins muses. "probably after what's inside our bags." He gestures to the hefty sacs of gold you three are carrying around. The greedy glint on one of the man's faces confirms his thoughts, and as soon as they approach speaking distance they are moving to surround you.

"That is some heavy burden you're carrying! You wouldn't mind if we helped you take off some weight of your shoulders, right?" The apparent bandit leader says mockingly.

"...I'm going to give you two options." You say to the bandit, as Elloy's hand rests at his hilt and Velkins reaches towards his hidden crossbow. "You leave right now... or you die."

The leader's eyes widen as the group finally circles you, then laughs. "You're a fool! Death it is then... For you!" As he says this, he slaps his horse and moves towards you, axe raised. The other four bandits see him, and start moving to attack your own friends as well.

That is the moment where you withdraw your silver catalyst and shoot a force bolt straight at the leader's head, knocking it clean off his shoulders from the tremendous force. As the horse runs along, it gets in the way of two of the bandit's horses just as chaos breaks out.

Elloy, seeing that two of the bandits are busy trying to calm their horses down, slides his hand over his unsheathed blade, and it immediately becomes coated in burning red flames. He then dashes towards one of the two busy bandits, and makes a jump of several feet, slashing at one of the aggressors' side, burning through the leather and knocking him off the saddle.

Velkins, on his part, backs away from one of the armed bandits (getting away with only a hacked plate) and lines up his crossbow at the other bandit. The man's horse, bewildered by the sudden chaos, stands up on its legs, which makes Velkins' bow hit it instead of the bandit. There is an explosion of fire and smoke, and the horse -or what's left of it- collapses to the side, the bandit falling with it.

The four bandits (one nigh-fatally wounded) look at their current situation, and promptly take the smart choice, dropping their weapons as the smell of fire and brimstone sinks into their hearts. Minutes later, you have bound four men and obtained three horses (the one with the leader fled into the wilds, and the other died from its wounds.)
>>
>>22868982
The thieves are now at your mercy, though one doesn't look like it might last long. Now that you have horses, however, it should merely take some hours to reach the capital.

What shall be the fates of the criminals before you?
>>
>>22868993
We bring them in and turn them in to the local authorities.
Maybe give them a choice of if they want to die painlessly now, or face the hangman's noose back at the city.
And I suppose a last request is acceptable.
>>
>>22869029
This. Sounds like the best option to me. We're still law abiding citizens, not those moronic adventurers that go running around killing everything that looks at them funny and taking stuff from people's houses without asking.
>>
>>22869029
It's going to be tough to bring them in. You have three horses and seven people to carry. You could carry one bandit on each horse, but that still leaves a fourth one. That wounded one might not reach the capital alive, however. Or he could, but he will almost certainly be infected and there is little in way of medical attention for the wretched.
>>
>>22869278
Carry? Don't be silly, GM.

We're going to ride the horses ourselves, then bind the bandits and make them walk in front of us. Why the hell should we carry them?
>>
>>22869278
Well, the wounded one. Can we cauterize his wounds?
Wouldn't want to steal business from the hangman, after all.
His friends can carry him.

We ride on the horses. They walk.
>>
>>22869355
That would make you take longer to get to the city. The fourth bandit is in no shape to walk, either. It's possible for you to do, but it seems rather sadistic and not something Elloy or Velkins would particularly enjoy.
>>
>>22869383
From that point of view I guess it seems a fair choice. I suppose this is what you're doing?
>>
>>22869411
>>22869426
Hm. You said 500 meter limit for type 2 teleport, right?

Supposing it doesn't take much magic to use, could we (alone) set up a teleportation circle, ride quickly 500 meters forward, set up another one, teleport back to the first one and teleport the entire group to the one 500 meters forward? Then we'd just repeat this until we got to the city. This way only we (and by we I mean our horse) have to do any travelling. The group can just wait in one place and get teleported by us all the way there.
>>
>>22869426
Look, they're bandits. They had absolutely no compunction to try to kill us. We are not going to let them go free only to rob and kill other innocent travelers.
They either die here and now, or they can get their fair day in court.
But we're not going to coddle them, and their rights as prisoners is pretty non-existent. We aren't law enforcement, we are not required to show them mercy. The fact that we're even giving them the choice of dying now or dying at a later date after a final meal is already pretty merciful considering our occupation.
>>
>>22869459
The circles alone take some seconds to set up, but you need to unhorse and get on the horse again. Something like that would annoy your character pretty quickly, and considering the disposition of /tg/ towards the bandits sounds rather out there.

You grab the four bandits by the scruff of their necks, forcing them to stand. The fourth one is carried by his men, and you note with a grim satisfaction that he is limping. His wounds are already cauterized by Elloy's fire, so there is little worry about him bleeding out.

You give the bandits the choice between death or the hangman's noose, and all but the fourth one choose to go with you. The wounded bandit seems to hold no illusions about escaping with his wound. You look at Elloy, but as he looks at the bandit seems to hesitate. He doesn't care about killing somebody in self-defense, but he never has truly fancied himself an executioner.

Velkins volunteers to do the job, and takes his time to offer the bandit a last request. He asks to feel the coins from your bag, and finally dies holding gold coins between his fingers, basking in the smell of coinage as his throat is slit.

The six of you make your way to the capital, you on horse and them on foot. Night falls, and as you light your way with magic, you continue unabated. Eventually you approach the city, faint light twinkling from the oil lanterns and other luminiscent objects within. The city of Arkheist, nestled between two hills, makes its appearance to you as you trod down the stony road leading to its gates.

Looking at the bandits, the guards that greet you there raise an eyebrow, but open the walls to you as you explain your situation (adventurers coming back with loot from the caves, attacked by thieves on the road). They leave you the directions to the constable's office, and you drop off the bandits there. The men there assure you they will be getting what they deserve.
>>
>>22869536
I think it would be easier just to sling the wounded bandit on one of the horses after cauterizing his wounds, and making the others walk.

It's not a Bataan Death March we're making them do.

With that weight off your shoulders, you decide to rest at an inn and start your extensive shopping in the morning. Elloy spends the night at the tavern, speaking tales of how you three were assaulted by blood-sucking bats that also shapeshifted into giants who could also grow several heads, throwing a round or two of ale and liquor to make his tales even remotely believable. Meanwhile, Velkins made a small ransom playing at darts, and repeteadly hitting the bullseye without an ounce of shame.

While Elloy continues describing tales of the multi-headed giants that somewhere along the story obtained the ability to phase through walls, turn men into stone through sight and also had captured a hundred beautiful virgins, you sit down and start drinking ale until you can't see straight. You eat a light meal which you barely even feel through the ale, and then stumble in your room, falling asleep as soon as you hit the sheets.

You wake up in the morning with only a minor buzzing (Praise Bahamut!), and lightly adjust your robes. Velkins has already woken up and is eating breakfast, while only loud snores come from Elloy's room. It is only as you're eating breakfast with the crossbowman that Elloy walks into the scene, his blonde hair unruly from a bad night's sleep. Somehow, he still looks no worse for wear besides that.

As you eat your meal, Velkins mentions that he's already gathered some information about the shops in town, having woken up suprisingly early. Still, you are back at civilization and are carrying around a small fortune. There is no need to hurry.

>You have amassed 4,500 gold coins from Oskualin's hoard. There were probably more, but they must've been buried between the piles of corpses. Buying a Bag of Holding costs 1,500 gold coins for the smallest variety, and a handy haversack costs 1,000.
>Costs of armor are as follows: a suit of full plate costs 1000 gold coins, while lighter armor such as half-plate costs around 400. Then there is chainmail which costs 150, and scale mail which costs only around 50 gold coins. Magically reinforced armor can well reach into the 2,000 gold pieces.
>Weapons you might be interested in: Elloy is not only profficient in swords, but can also handle rapiers fairly well. He doesn't like blunt weapons, but will accept crushing weapons such as greatswords. Velkins is also good with a bow, often using them to train his arm strength so he doesn't get lazy with the crossbow. He can also handle himself with a spear, having trained as a guard before becoming an adventurer. You yourself might want to find something better than your shortsword, such as a magical dagger... Weapons can range from a handful of gold coins to several hundred depending on the quality or properties you desire.
>Suggestions are welcome.

I'll be ending it for today with this update. Feel free to discuss what you want to buy/make suggestions. Whatever you suggest here will be archived for next thread, which will probably be on Saturday.
>>

Is the 4500 gold per person, or the entire haul?
>>

The entire haul. Oskualin's location was pretty remote, and the fat fuck couldn't exactly traverse through the caves, so he only had what fell to get wealthy. Normally a dragon would have quite a bit more.

that looks like the total haul to me

handy haversack 120 lb cap + always getting the item you reach for.
type one Bag of Holding 250 lb cap.
so is the loss of easy item retrieval worth 130 lb and 500 gp?

Are we the type of character that would need that kind of accuracy?
If we were an alchemist who constantly needed to reach for potions and items, yeah. But we're a mage; a bandoleer would be enough, wouldn't it?
>>
>>22871145
but you see the 4500gp is the whole group's haul not just ours, therefore we're looking at upgrading the whole 3 man party not just our self.

so even if we(the mage) aren't wearing the pack/bag one of the others(archer-type or melee-type) could.

Okay, yes.
But come on. You've seen Elloy. Can you honestly tell me he has the mental capacity to use a Handy Haversack to its full utility?
And as for Velkins, I'm sure there's a quiver version that does the same for arrows and bolts; that would be a better choice for him.

I think the important use of the Bag of Holding is to hold the loot we get from now on, and the more it can hold, the better.

Come to think of it, we don't have a healer in the party.
Maybe a Wand of Cure Light Wounds or some healing potions would be in order?
>>
>>22870851
We got a lot of Fire power so thing that take advantage of that would be good
>ether a wand grease spell or the actual spell. if nether is available then flasks of oil

>Bag of Holding
ok
weapons and armour.
i'm thinking a better longsword and some armour that gives good defense without hindering movement for Elloy, not sure what to get velkins, and a magic dagger for us.
>>22871807
that would be a good idea, because even thought we have respawn we'd probably loose any loot we had with us at the time, so it'd be better not to die in the first place.

We'll need to see prices before we can really decide what to get, but a Bag of Holding seems to be agreed upon as a definite buy.
