>Alright /tg/ giving this another shot.
>Previous Thread: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/22783226/
You open your eyes with a start; you must have fallen asleep during your jump into the system. The jolt of the plasma drives kicking back in shook you from your fitful nap. On the sensors you can see the solar system arrayed on the holographic display. Your destination, the colony of Singh’s Landing is about an hour out, just past the dense asteroid belt you are rapidly approaching. Two gas giants are further out, their moons dead and cold.
You are Neil Fairburn. Ex-pirate and captain of the corvette class starship Leda.
>Crew and passengers of the Leda
>Crew:
>Iris McAdams- Engineer. Low-Grav Worlder
>Pete Ramsey- Refinery Worker trained in first aid, working in the medbay.
>Tsat- Gunnery crew. A lizard-like alien called a Senzaz.
>William Rask- Mercenary
>Passengers:
> Pete Ramsey’s Son
> 25 other refinery workers and their families
> 4 Traders (1 family unit)
>Psychic, male, combat conditioned. He is currently in a stasis chamber in the medbay.

>Inventory:
>Flechette Pistol

What are your order Captain?
>>
>>22908867
Send a message to Singh's Landing that we're a ship carrying refugees, and we're requesting clearance to land.

Also see if we can navigate around the asteroid belt; don't want to get any scratches on this ship.
>>
Is there a way around the asteroid field?
>>
>>22908917
>>22908928

There is an area with very little debris. It'll add about a half hour to your trip.

You attempt to hail the colony, but you are out of range at the moment.

Roll 1d10 for Piloting

Rolled 4

>>22909008
Piloting
>>
>>22909047
You miss the larger debris, due to your skill in piloting. You do trip up and hit a micrometeorite field. It's nothing your shields can't handle but it takes a large amount of your power to keep them from punching through.

As you pass by, you get a spike of power on the sensors. Something is moving out of the asteroid field, and fast.
>>
Rolled 3

>>22909204
Can we do a scan for whatever is following us.
>>
>>22909204
Better power up the shields, tell everyone to hang on, and focus sensors on what's coming after us.

Better tell Iris to see if she can put more power into the engines if she can.
>>
>>22909342
Your scan doesn't turn up anything particular.

>>22909411
You put in a call down to Iris, telling her to put more power into the engine.

Her voice comes back, frantic "I can't get much, those hits in the asteroid field drained most of our shields. I can wrangle up a bit of power if I re-route it from our weapons."
>>
>>22909480
Continue trying to get Singh's Landing on the comm.

Ask Tsat what shape the weapons are in. We might want to outrun whatever's coming at us rather than fight it.
>>
>>22909480
Drain the power from the weapons. If we can get away from them, we don't need to fight.
>>
>>22909529

>Armaments on Leda:
>1 front mounted rail turret
>2 side mounted missile racks (small)

Tsat responds quickly "Weaponsss are ready to fire sssir. You will need to find me a target."
>>
>>22909624
Oh. Nevermind then, cut power to the weapons and put it into the engines.
>>
>>22909624
can we get Singh's landing on the comm?
>>
>>22909529
>>22909831

You finally manage to get a link to Singh's Landing.

"This is Singh's Landing starport. Designation please."

You quickly rattle off the info for your recently claimed ship and explain your situation.

"Okay, we have a spot coming open. You are clear to land in lot 14."

The power signature gains on you and comes into visual range.
Your history as a pirate comes in handy. The ship is messily repaired and is emblazoned with a pirate insignia. Whoever is on your tail is a raider, equipped to take on transport ships.
>>
>>22910012
"Singh's Landing, we've got a pirate on our ass and we're full up with refugees. Our shields are weakened and our weapons are limited; can you send any patrol ships to get this guy off of us?"
>>
>>22910066
seconding.
>>
>>22910066
>>22910086

"Pirates? We don't have anything we can send your way. I'll send some men to warm up the sub-orbital defenses. We can chase them off if you get to atmo."

A warning shot from a laser cannon narrowly misses your ship's engines. You seem to have an incoming transmission from the pirates.
>>
>>22910204
Tell Iris to put everything that the reactor has into the engines and shields.
Let's make a run for it.

May as well open the channel to the pirates.
>>
>>22910230
>>22909764
>>22909542

You tell Iris to cut power from the weapons and put it into the engines and shields.
The plasma drive kicks to life, sending you back into your seat.
You open up the channel to the pirates. It's audio only.
A scratchy voice fills the cockpit "Hey. We can talk this out. You stop, you live. You run, you die."
A few more laser blasts hit your shields.

Roll 1d10 for evasive maneuvers.

Putting your skill to work, you engage shift some of the power from the main engine to the thrusters and swing around. Putting the power back into the main engines, you quickly accelerate before their targeting computers can lock on again. You've put some distance between Leda and the pirates.

A short while later, and some close calls, you finally break atmosphere. As you do, the pirates break off pursuit.

Leda comes to a rest in a dusty lot, not far from a rickety building. There are only three other ships in the starport, all of them showing combat damage. The colony itself isn't fairing much better, it looks more like a shanty town than a recently formed colony.
>>
>>22910569
What's going on with that Psychic?
>>
>>22910569
get the refugees off the ship
we need the cargo space
>>
>>22910569
See if we can contact Starport Control, and get these refugees off of our hands.

See if those ships also came from the station that we ran from.
>>
>>22910774
>>22910792

You open the comm channel to Starport Control. You ask about unloading the refugees.

"Yeah, Leda, we can take them. We were hoping, you wouldn't happen to have any supplies you can spare? Those pirates have been hitting us pretty hard, we haven't had a resupply in a couple months now."

You start taking mental stock of your supplies and realize, you aren't entirely sure what you have on the ship. Just then, Rask's voice rings out from behind you "Hey Cap, sorry to bother you. It's about that ship, I think i recognize the insignia. Hell's Brigade, a merc fleet. Used to do a bit of privateer work closer to my homeworld. They're a long way from home, and it looks like they've fallen on some rough times because of it. They were based off a couple of old freighters, taken as spoils of war. That ship that attacked us looked like a jury-rigged mining vessel."
>>
>>22910949
Go down to the cargo bay and explain the situation to the refugees. While we're there, see what the ship has for supplies.
>>
>>22910949
"Understood, Starport Control. We left in a big hurry, so I don't even know what we've got on this tug. I'll let you know if we've got anything to spare."

Let's tell the refugees that we've got clearance to get them off here, and we need to take stock of our supplies.

"Understood, Starport Control. We left in a big hurry, so I don't even know what we've got on this tug. I'll let you know if we've got anything to spare."

With that you nod to Rask, and head down to the cargo bay. You explain to the refugees what the situation is with the Starport, and tell them they're free to leave the ship. You mention that you need to take stock of the ship's supplies and a few volunteer to stay and help.

>>22911183
Could we spare a crate of food, two fletchette pistols and five mags of fletchette ammo?

Actually, ask if they could use any weapons. They may not need nor want them.
>>
>>22911183
Give them two crates of food, leave the mining supplies with the refugees and see if they want some of the pistols.
>>
>>22911183
We're an ex-pirate; maybe it's time to become a pirate-hunter?

Anyway, I think we can spare a crate of food and the mining equipment.
>>

You reach Iris on the intercom and tell her to route it through to the Starport.

You let them know that you can spare a crate of food and some mining equipment.

"Well thanks, it'll keep the people from starving for a little while longer. We can try to get these folk someplace nice to stay."
>>
>>22911390
"Thanks, we'll see what we can do about getting you some more supplies."
>>
>>22911390
Maybe we should ask how many pirates there are, and if we can fix up the other ships at the starport.
Because with those fucks there in the asteroid belt, we're not going to be leaving either.
And if it comes down to us or them, we push them right into the engine intakes of our ship.
>>
>>22911390
now that we're on the ground, we should deal with that psychic.

We should see if there's someone who has the equipment that can dampen the psychic's abilities. What if he ends up being hostile or psychotic?
>>
>>22911442
You ask how many pirates there are.

"Not too sure. We have reports about the one that hit you and at least one more ship."

You quickly ask about the other ships at the starport.

"We've had to rip apart most of them to keep the colony afloat. I think Intrepid is still in working shape. No weapons though, it's a long range transport."

Rask comes into the cargo bay.
"Captain, we have a small problem."
>>
>>22911580
>we have a small problem
"Don't we always? What is it, Rask?"
>>
>>22911605
"Don't we always? What is it, Rask?"

He grimaces "The stasis tube we have the psychic in is damaged. When Iris was messing around with the reactor, she must have accidentally sent some into the medbay. Looks like we have to deal with the psychic sooner than later."

"We should see if there's someone who has the equipment that can dampen the psychic's abilities. What if he ends up being hostile or psychotic?"

Rask cocks his head "I'll grab a rifle. Worst comes to worst, I'll put him down."
>>
>>22911660
Yeah, well, here's hoping he doesn't get in our heads and assume direct control.
>>
>>22911660
Well, no time like the present. We should head to the medbay.
>>
>>22911746
You arrive in the medbay, just in front of Tsat. The large, lizard-like, alien slouches past, a piece of metal rod in his hands.

Pete looks up from the examination table.
"He's comin' to. If ya don't mind, I'm gettin' the hell outta here." With that he runs to the doorway.

The bald man, covered in surgical scars, stirs on the table. His eyes jerk open suddenly. He looks frantic.
"Who are you? where is the Captain?"
>>
>>22911826
"Captain Neil Fairburn. If you're from the last crew of the Leda, your captain took a few bullets and bled out."
>>
>>22911826
"Name's Neil Fairburn, new captain of the Leda. I'm assuming you're talking about the old captain. He died during the escape from the station, and I got put in charge. We're at Singh's Landing now."
>>
>>22911881
"Name's Neil Fairburn, new captain of the Leda. I'm assuming you're talking about the old captain. He died during the escape from the station, and I got put in charge. We're at Singh's Landing now."

The bald man shakes his head.
"Dammit, he should have woken me up. I could of helped. Done something at least. Thanks though. I appreciate you not just throwing me out the airlock."

He sits up.

"My name is Tyson Leigh. Formerly from Beckridge, an Industrial world about ten jumps out. What's the situation?"
>>
>>22911959
"We got some pirates that are preying on supply shipments coming here. The colony's in a bad way, but at least the planetary guns keep the pirates away.
"Course, if you want to leave, you've also gotta deal with the pirates too, so one way or another, if we're leaving this rock, we'll need to get rid of those pirates.
"Or become farmers. Take your pick."
>>
>>22911959
"Like I said, we're at Singh's Landing. We have at least two pirate craft blockading us. The colony has been cut off for around a month. The crew here is going to hunt some pirates. Still not sure what to do about you. What exactly is it you do?"

>OP, do we know anything about psychics?
>>
>>22912010

He shakes his head. "I can help. Besides, someone needs to make sure you take care of Leda. Oh, and if the colony is in such a bad way, chances are I'll die down here of something worse than a Flechette wound."

He looks around "Tell me, that Psi-Array still work, or you guys mess with it?"

>>22912028
You know almost nothing about psychics
>>
>>22912080
"We didn't know if you were dangerous or not so we cut power to it. What is a Psi-Array, anyways?"
>>
>>22912080
ask him what he can do. we don;t know anything about psychics so we should learn something while we can
>>
>>22912145
"We didn't know if you were dangerous or not so we cut power to it. What is a Psi-Array, anyways?"
"What exactly is it you do?"

Tyson sighs."Typical. A Psi-Array boosts my power so I can affect things on the scale of starships. I'm a telekinetic and a precognitive. If you want my help, first thing we need to do is get that array hooked back up."
>>
>>22912323
Tell Iris to repair the Psi-Array. Let's see what he can do.
>>
>>22912368
You tell Iris to fix the Psi-Array. the next few hours are a blur of repair work and planning. Chances are, when you leave Atmo, those pirates are going to come down hard on you. Lucky for you, you know their tactics and you have a few surprises up your sleeves.

You wipe sweat from your brow and lean up against the side of Leda. The universe just isn't making it easy for you right now.

>Well, looks like things are winding down, so I figure this is a good place to stop. Hope everyone enjoyed it.
>>
>>22912471
It was entertaining.
I rarely come to this board, but it was fun reading this.
