I want to generator a whole star system for something I'm planning. Not sure if I'll just do some writefaggan/storytiman/questan but I want to get your guys help in fluffing it out.

Basically, my plan is to have a Space Marine Chapter for this sytem, the reason they've been sent there is unknown. Maybe the whole system is populated by Tombworlds and they need something to stop them, or perhaps this Chapter is so terribly they just can't be put anywhere else.

But first of all I need to come up with a Chapter. Roll 1d10 for the reason it was founded.

'The Eldar'

OK good, so we've been created to destroy the Not-Elves. Alternatively we could have been made to plague nearby Craftworlds, or just assassinate a particularly difficult Farseer.

'35th Millenium'

I don't think there was a particular founding at this time, so we have have been the only Chapter to be created. I know that the Tau were first contacted in the 35th Millenium, so we possibly were created in order to quell any alliances they may make with the Eldar.

Any fluff you right for the rolls will be ignored (unless it's what the table says).

I'm getting the results from the Creation tables, so if you roll for 'Orc Slayers' and say we're bred to kill Chaos we'll still be Orc Slayers. But, with cases outside of rolls (Chapter Master fluff) all of that is more that welcome.

'Adeptus Arbites'

You have a friend in the Adeptus Arbites. the police of the Imperium. They enforce the Imperial Law, I'm sure they have a great time on our Hive World.

Right I'm gonna go through this thread, put together what we've got, and then we can fill in the holes.
>>
>Counter Threat - Eldar

>Progenitor is the Dark Angels - Lion El'Johnson is our Spiritual Liege and is therefore better then everyone else
>Gene-seed is pure, no flaws or defects
>We hate all Xenos with a passion, especially the Eldar
>Our Chapter Master was renowned for killing Orks
>Our homeworld is a Hive-World based on a Jungle, we have stewardship over the whole planet, and essentially control it
>We follow the Codex religiously
>We are over strength, due to the necessity of killing the Eldar, and our opening gambit is Steel Rehn, where we bombard them with drop-pods and then swarm out like a group of ants.
>We have an ally in the Adeptus Arbites, no doubt as they police the shit out of our Hive-World.

Right, should we fluff out our Chapter Master, or try and come up with a name/colour scheme?
>>
Rolled 57

>>22933316
Let's go with the Chapter Master.
The Eldar directed a massive Waaagh! into our system, and he managed to beat it back and reclaim lost territory?
>>
>>22933316

What about rolling from enemy ?
>>
>>22933397
So we've got 2 nearby star systems, one has the Eldar in (possibly the whole thing is Eldar and has a number of Craftworlds), the other is where we are based.

The Eldar, being the crafty bastards that they were, managed to re-direct an Ork Waaagh! to our system. Our name-less Chapter Master managed to beat them back, what a guy!

I like it.
>>
Rolled 77

>>22933424
Or, how about this:
The planets in our system are dormant tomb worlds, and that's the reason for frequent Eldar raids.
The Eldar suspect the Necron are going to awake soon, and directed the Waaagh! there to buy them some time to move the craftworld away.
Our Chapter Master screwed them over, however, when he beat back the Orks.
>>
>>22933451
How would the Eldar have known the Tombs were goingto be awakening soon?

The Eldar aren't fucking magicians. They're the smartest thing in the galaxy, but they can't predict the... well actually they can, can't they?

Okay nevermind. So the Eldar predict the future and see the Tomb world awakening. Redirect Orks into our system, we beat them back and now we're on the offensive against both Eldar and Tomb Kings?
>>
>>22933473
Well we're always on the offensive against the Eldar. We don't know about the Tombworlds just yet.
>>
>>22933486
So do we attack their Craftworld?

I mean their could be elderly and children on board...
>>
>>22933486
This. The Necrons haven't awoken yet.
We're fighting against Orks now (the remains of the redirected Waagh) and some Eldar who mostly do a swift hit-and-run attack as a diversion.
The need to quickly respond to Eldar attacks explains why we use drop-pods so often.
Also, because of the Eldar sabotage, we need to keep a strong police force to monitor suspicious activities.

>>22933505
I'd say that we know a craftworld is somewhere nearby, but we haven't found it yet.
The Eldar are desperately trying to haul ass away from the awakening Necron threat.
>>
Is it bad that I'm more interested in the Craftworld than the SM chapter?
>>
>>22933505
>elderly
>not "Eldarly"

Missed a golden opportunity there
>>
>>22933567
Yes, but don't worry. I plan on doing a star system, so there'll be plenty more threads like this.

I'll do one for the Eldar Craftworld and the Ork Waaagh that was stopped.

So an Eldar Farseer saw one of the worlds was infested with Necrons. He organised the re-direction of an Ork Waaagh to that planet so that the Necrons would have to fight something first.

However we got in the way of that, and our Chapter Master is venerated by us due to his use of (tactics/weapons?)

I think it's time to name our brave CM.

>>22933717
It's a bit ironic, considering the Necrons underneath us, but yes, let's have an underworld theme.
>>
>>22933717
Charon in Greek mythology used a hammer, so our Charon would be swinging around one of these babies during the WAAAGH!

I'm gonna list just some random Underworld stuff and we'll try and get the name out of it;

Hades
Styx
Acheron
Cerberus
Shades
Tartarus
Lethe

I think it'd be cool if our Chapter was the 'The Shades'.
>>
>>22933807
-The Shades Vigil-

Yay or Nay?
>>
>>22933807
Tartarus has got to be a penal world in the Hades system.
The planet where we spent most of our time during our vigil is Cerberus.
Acheron is the world where most fighting occured.
>>
Saga Venatores.
Witch hunters in Latin.
>>
The Chapter name might have to wait for a bit then.

So how does our Hive-world work? Is it mighty towers filled with billions of people, with harsh jungle in between? Or do we just have gigantic tribes living within?

Do the Arbites police our world, or did we do them a favour in the past?
>>
>>22933970
I'm in favor of that Kashyyyk thing.

Or, how about this:
There are huge domes in which the old jungles are kept, because the local wildlife has a lot of medical purposes.
Also because some rich pricks enjoy hunting. Think of them as natural preserves and proving grounds.

As for the Arbites, we needed them because of constant Eldar sabotages, so they came.
Over the years, we grew closer together.
>>
>>22934027

This. Huge hive pyramids with inverted arcologies inside, full of jungles and whatnot. Our Arbite division can be Latin America - themed, fighting drug-cultivating jungle gangs.
>>
OK so our population exists withint massive tree-like hive spires, and the remains of the untamed jungle resides within Pyramind-greenhouses?
>>
Bumping for any more ideas.
>>
I love the idea for the Jungle - Hiveworld, it's just something a little different :)

I'm still struggling on the Chapter name and colour scheme. I want them to go for something with an Underworld theme, but also something that resonates how much they hate the Xenos.
>>
You could have the Chapter have Librarians trained to disrupt and confuse the Eldar farseers.
They emit psychic static of some sort that kicks Eldar in the psychic groin.
>>
In the 35th Millenium, the Imperium of Man came into contact with a potentially dangerous new ally. These aliens, who called themselves the 'Tau' would ally with any cultures who would share their goals of a 'greater good'.

Due to the close proximity of a few human-occupied planets, Eldar Craftworlds and the newly discovered Tau-controlled planets, new Chapters were founded to quell the Xenos before they got too strong.

One such Chapter were the Shades Vigil, a Space Marine Chapter whose sole purpose was to destroy and eradicate the Xenos menace, but most notably to combat the Eldar, regardless of their affiliation with the Tau.

The Shades Vigil are descended from the Dark Angels, first of the Chapters, and venerate their Primarch, Lion El'Jonson, more than any other.

The homeworld of the Shades Vigil is a jungle based Hive-world, dotted with gigantic tree-like spires that house the population. The majority of the flora on the planet is now contained within mighty pyramid-like 'greenhouses'. Due to the medicinal effects of these plants, this planet plays a vital part in the producing of new medicines and anti-toxins that are shipped throughout the galaxy. However, some plants have been found to have carcinogenic and hallucinatory effects, leading to cartels manufacturing these into drugs and distributing them around the planet and further. As such, a large number of Adeptus Arbites have been stationed on this planet, to try and stem the flow, and have such formed a close bond with the Space Marines that call this planet their home.

The Shades Vigil hold stewardship over the planet, and while they do not run it in day-to-day affairs, they have a very large say in the use of resources, recruiting and other matters.

1/2
>>
The current Chapter Master, Charon Dominus, is a legendary figure within the Chapter. When the Farseer of a nearby Eldar Craftworld forsaw the awakening of a Tomb World within the system, efforts were made to re-direct a passing Ork WAAAGH! through the system and onto the planet, to slow or stop the Necron invasion.

However, the invasion landing on another planet within the system causing the Shades Vigil to intervene. Due to Charon's skill with the Power Hammer and his characteristic hatred for all Xenos the WAAAGH! was swiftly stopped. Green-skins throughout the sector still fear his name.

Due to the need of having a constant force able to stop the Eldar, the Chapter was allowed to recruit over the recommended limit of most Chapters. Even though the Shades Vigil are extremely Codex-adherent, this was the only deviation that had been allowed.

>I think that's it for today. If anyone has any more ideas you're free to post, I will do another of these threads tomorow, to either fluff out this Chapter a little more, or to focus on the details of the nearby Craftworld, or the Orks.
