The Story of Omar Denis Continues!

Previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Overhuman

You control the fate of an invoker named Omar Denis.

After losing his parents due to circumstances beyond his control, Omar unlocked his latent potential as an Overhuman.
Recruited by a mysterious woman in black, known as "Fauna," he entered into an organization known as "Renaissance."
During the training of his powers, he absorbed the legend of the phoenix and shot up in danger levels among the organization, tested in the desert, he was allowed to live..
Having recently forgiven Renaissance's missteppings, Omar seeks to change this organization from within!

Last time: Omar had a risky encounter with Violet that ended abruptly after Katie calling him in his room. With the distraction out of the way, Omar meets Katie at the sparring sands and she aids in the making of his memento: A red glass Phoenix with his mother's ashes mixed into the form.

How will Violet make good on her plan to "Fix things?"
Will Omar play with Katie?
Will we meet Fauna again?
Let's see with this installment of Overhuman: The Story of Omar Denis!
>>
Thinking about her offer for a moment, it strikes me that animists put their own soul into their power. I don't think I could let her risk that. I don't know if she'd contaminate the remains, or if they would linger in her..

"I'm sorry, but I need to say no.. I wouldn't want you getting something weird or awful from this." I say, with a kind of sad smile.

Katie wraps her arms around me, an abrupt hug," I wouldn't mind... But I insist on at least making you the mold, I can do that, right?"

I shrug,"Don't see why not..."

"It's settled then, get your things ready!

--------------------------

I hold in my hands, the heated mixture of my mom's ash and the components for selenium ruby glass. The current color, a glowing orange, I pour it into a small mold of sand that Katie made from some of the sand.

After all of it is in, she closes it, and turns it about remotely. Overall, my heat had only brought her up to a sweat, it seems that my control over this form's heat has gotten better.

Katie soon cools the mixture and the end result is a Ruby Phoenix, wings spread, with the ash giving the feathers an additional shade. It's quite detailed for a "homemade" craft, however I admire how it came out.

"It's so pretty.." Katie whispers, as she draws the remaining sand from the surface of the totem.

Regarding it in my own hand, I feel a gentle, motherly warmth pulsating from it that puts me at ease, while kindling my inner flame...

Mother, you'll be with me always, in my heart, soul, and fire.
>>
I touch the glass figurine carefully, almost thinking that something so beautiful might just break. I didn't intend to cherish something so dearly this soon... But, this contains the remains of my mother, the very same that defended me until her dying breath.

I'm soon snapped out of my trance as Katie gives me a sharp poke, her smile is as out of place as always.

"Okay Omar, so we're done right? Do you want to play with me now? I owe you a game for defeating Drake after all."

My stomach twists at the mention of Drake, I had looked up his condition via profile, it said that visiting is currently prohibited, and his specialization... Rage? Do I want to ask Katie about this? Does she even know? Or rather, does she want to know?

you helped me make it lets see if it works want to play agents a fire bird?
>>
>>23116052
[X] Leave well enough alone, "Play" with her.

We probably shouldn't go Phoenix on her, it's not really suited for sparring. It'll turn the sand beneath us into slagged glass, might severely injure her, and it'll piss off everyone else in the area.
>>
>>23116104
>>23116052
we should make sure that it works
but see if she is up for it first

"flame ON !"
>>
I shake off the sick feeling and smile at her, Drake's in pain, but to bring it up would likely ruin her mood, if that's even possible.

"Sure, we can play. Would you like me to show you my Phoenix shift?" I'm anxious yet tentative to use it.. I want to see if the totem works properly, but at the same time, i don't want to hurt her... If she's up for it though, why should I tell her no?

Katie seems to think for a moment before shaking her head briefly," No, that wouldn't be much good for a game. I don't know how to protect against fire well enough yet. And Eliza told me that burns are hard for animists to heal. So, we'll play, no fire. If you want though, I'll show you more of my real power." She spins around and starts walking to an empty field of sand.

Wait, real power? Katie was holding back last time? Well.. I've got some new tricks of my own..

[X] Let her surprise me, it's fun after all.

What's the fun in asking? We can show her some interesting tricks as well.

Immediately start up some Transformations, use Shift if needed to speed them up. Get the sand vibration sensing from some variety of Sand Viper/Snake, bet the Mantis Shrimp Arm up as well, and start off by playing defensive.
>>
>>23116264

surprise me ;)

shift as we walk grow some better eagle lungs and eyes

Mantis Shrimp Arm and them secondary eye lids of credible to protect from sand.

some light beetle Armour exoskeleton around abs solders and head exct Kamen Rider form go
>>
>>23116487
The eyelid thing is a good idea.

For armor we could use beetles, or we could use the Scaly-foot mollusk, their exoskeleton is being used to inspire next gen military armor.

I'd prioritize the lungs lower than the other stuff, but still might be useful.
>>
I can't help but smile, so she's going to show me more of her power. I honestly never thought I could have as much fun fighting as I did last time. Come to think of it, time spent with her is likely the most fun I've had since I've been here.

Katie turns around as other Overs spar in other fields. Controlled light, clashes of brute force, and whipping sands are in the background.
She waves and calls my name," Well, what are ya waiting for Omar? Let's get started!"

As I walk over to the sand, I let the power in and quicken my shift, adapting my right arm into the mantis club, my sense of touch to the sand viper, and make my skin a bit more scaled and impact resistant than it already is.

As somewhat of an afterthought, I don a second pair of eyelids to protect against the sand. just a thin film, but it'll help nonetheless.

Katie giggles a bit as I finally get into the pit.
"Geeze Omar, a bit serious aren't ya? Gettin all changed up before we even start... For an Invoker, your power's pretty strange. Drake and Spartan don't even do things like that.."

"Well, I'm not Drake or Spartan. You ready? Or shall I start?"

Her smile takes on a mischievous tone,"Ladies first."

"Are you saying that I'm a la-"

I feel the sand grab my feet and pull, forcing my fall. My reflexes allow me to catch myself with my still human arm, but my feet still feel stuck," Ok, that was cheap!"

"I said ladies first!" I feel the sand slip away from my ankles and flow straight to Katie, flowing onto her body like before, I feel the vibrations, but only so slightly.

As I regain my footing, I find myself slipping. By the time that I look at her clearly again, she's covered in an armor-like textured sand.

Katie waves a hand over her face and the armor gains something of a see-through visor.

She charges at me, an uncommon full frontal on her part.

We need some reinforce practice, and busting through her armor won't be easy.

I'm the Samefag here, and I know this is rather early in the Quest thread but would you please archive this Dranule?

(Pretty tired and would love to read the quest in the morning)

I spring some quickening in conjuction with my reflexes to dodge her charge at the last second, jumping only for her to pull that cartwheel kick on me like she did so many other times.

I'm caught by the sand clad leg just as I bring up reinforcement to take the blow. With my current skill level, her clad leg feels like an iron pull taking me to the ground.

I lie prone with an ache and she backs off, hopping lightly on her feet like our first match.

"What's the matter? Come on Omar, gotta do better than that!" She chides me, but I'm starting to get a feeling that I really want to impress her.

Getting back on my feet, I take note...

Her armor is dense and heavy, however she moves just as well as she usually does, no hindrance. I can feel her in the sand, though only just barely. She's incredibly light on her feet.
I notice that for as fast as I move, she seems to be able to move just as quickly.
It's true, animists are just as capable of such a feat as quickening..

Well, what should I do?

I don't think that the pistol shrimp adaptation works properly on land. In the water what happens is that the snapping action of the claw creates a superheated pocket of steam that shoots out like a bullet. On land there's no surrounding water to superheat into a steam pocket, so no bullet.

>>23116700
Block with reinforce, counter with mantis club. I'm not sure what would be best to deal with her, as that sand armor is very good at absorbing energy.
>>

How about shifting the free-arm into some type of digging animal's claw.
>>
>>23116925
[X] Engage her head on, lock up her movements with chambered mantis punches.

When all else fails rapidly apply brute force.

[X] Reinforce (Strength / Defense)
We need to practice this anyways. And if she's wearing armor we need more force. The more Reinforcement we have the stronger the Mantis club is, they probably work together in a multiplicative fashion.

we are paper in the wind we do not doge her attacks the attacks push us away with out touching us float like a piece of paper.

A digging claw... it might work..

As my own reminder, Animists hold advantage over Invokers.
>>
>>23117108
They do. She doesn't get tired like we do and we can't mess eat her abilities.

I mean we could win without any trouble if we really wanted to, we could just turn this place into a conflagration, but there's no point to doing that.

We're playing, training.
>>
>>23117083
>>23117046
so we spar dance with her?
ok i dig it shift our hand back to normal and do this try and take off a piece or sand Armour with a coil punch every now and again
>>
A spark of inspiration hits me, If she's going to be so aggressive this time, and she uses such sweeping movements in her attacks.. Maybe I can take "Float like a butterfly" to the next level... Perhaps, move like a piece of paper?

That sounds stupid but.. I relax my body and take in the idea of paper, letting myself be blown before the force even strikes, and thus evading...

My body feels light, airy, and I stop sinking into the sand. With a smirk, I gesture she come at me.

With vigor, Katie charges again, this time moving down for a low sweep, I feel myself get picked up by the air as she moves, and then get blown out of the way as she comes around for an axe kick to my aerial prone form.

I gently regain my footing as she stares at me for a moment through her visor, a furrowed brow visible.

"Oooo... that looks fun... How am I going to bother that..." She lunges at me again, taking a boxer-stance this time and unleashes a ripping flurry of punches that my body slips out of the way of. After around 20 seconds of the assault, she pulls back and stares at me.

"Oh, oh... that's a neat trick. I think I get it though..."

"Yeah? What do you plan to do about it?"

I see her sand move, from her arm she generates a long and thin spike. The protrusion slides back into the gauntlet of her armor, and extends from the back of her elbow.

"This should work. Invokers are good at healing, right?"

I don't like the sound of that...

"I'm not sure I like where you're going with this Katie."

[X] Parry the blow and counter.

We don't have anywhere near the amount of Reinforcement we need to take it head on, and she designed it to counter our strategy so we need to shut her down and change it up.

[X] Quickening (Speed / Reflex / Shift accel)
[X] Maintain Paper Concept

We need both of these to dodge that murderspike she's going to fuck us up with.
>>

>>
"I'm not sure I like where you're going with this Katie... Just don't hit my face.."

I see the slight dimples of a smile through her visor at that. She steps forward...

I shift and quicken to form a buckler from my free arm, catching her loaded fist, though the spike doesn't come through. In the opening, I throw a quickened mantis punch at her solar, feeling the sand give and a ripple traveling through her as a plate explodes from her back, only to rejoin the rest of the seamless segments.

Unphased, she pulls back the loaded punch and backs off, "Omar, Omar... Need to do better than that... Then again, I've been gearing this armor to counter Invokers effectively.." She snickers a bit and then suddenly attacks, aiming at my sternum. I block with the buckler again, though she deploys the spike this time. I hear a loud and thundering sound as it drives its way through my shield, and I feel the pain of my chest being stabbed into..

Taking a knee, I feel my chest and heal. She didn't drive all the way through, she got maybe a couple centimeters in...

"You alright Omar? I don't really want to hurt you after all, it's now fun, ya know?"

"Right, right. Thanks.. Though I still need to figure this out."

Assessment: She's covered in sand and impact seems pretty much worthless against that armor. She just absorbs the blow.
And that spike causes a sonic boom when deployed. What an insane use...

[X] Write in attack method.

Okay, a straight up PUNCH won't work, she can diffuse blunt impact. We could go for a piercing attack, though I'm worried about hurting her with that. It works by taking the impact and having the vibration of it just pass by her. Doing it simultaneously on both sides of her might work, she can hardly transfer the vibrations to the other side like she did if we do that.

Give our shield hand a Mantis Club, but keep the shield on it. When she goes for the attack block/parry it, circle step so we're facing her side and hit about the same place on her gut and back at the same time.

[X] Shift
Make the shield even tougher, base it off of the Abalone/Mollusk, toughest fucking shells on earth, make it thick as hell.

Can we copy her spike design on one of our arms, obviously using muscles and bone instead of sand, but replace the pointed tip with a blunt one so we can bypass the armor?

The way I figure it, her armor will only absorb initial impacts, so any additional impacts on top of the compressed location in her armor will punch through.

Basically: swing arm (spike not engaged) -> arm impacts armor, armor dissipates force of initial blow, becomes compressed at location -> engage spike, applying additional force to already compressed area, unable to be dissipated.

At least that's how it goes in theory.
>>
>>23118002

Ok, legitimately smiled at that one...

But that ended with Rock lee near the point of never ninja-ing again...

And for someone using sand armor, she's been pretty proactive about it. Instead of an emo asshat that just sits in one spot blocking..
>>
>>23118022
>>23117992

Both of these are really thoughtful suggestions. Same effect with a different method.

>>23117973
Moving through her sand like water would imply that he'd need to become water. Which could end up with him losing solid form and maybe even dying...

I'd rather not go pokemon, remember what happened when we tried to channel the Jedi, bad things.

>>23118227
I'm not sure about constricting her. She's wearing sand armor, armor she can control with her soul, us grappling her will end up with her sand grappling us.
>>
That spike she used gave me an idea... Though I'll need a moment to implement it.. And with that, I could strike at two spots at once and maybe hope to tear off that armor...

"I gave you a moment to ready that spike thing yeah? Spare a moment for me?"

She relaxes her guard a bit," Sure Omar! Just say when!"

I focus on my buckler arm, taking in something harder and stronger, I take it easy on Quickening so that I don't wear myself out. My shell-buckler becomes an abalone shell.

Just the same, I employ the idea her chambered spike has given me... I shift my buckler arm into a mantis club and modify them with a secondary impact implement. It feels weird, however it eventually feels like it should work.

"When." I step in with quickening.

Katie steps in with her spike missing, and I throw a feint forcing a block out of her before go in for the real strike. I connect with my right mantis fist and feel the sand compress before forcing the vibration to travel. I deploy my blunt spike at that moment, driving it through her sand, sending unrestricted force into her.

She buckles backward, and takes a knee.

"Ohh, Ouch... You got me good with that one... Should've kept my reinforcement up.. " She stands as her armor begins to shake and appear unstable from her injury. The armor on her head slips off first, showing off her natural red hair again.

She still smiles," I need to focus on healing this. It's not as quick for us as you. Good game though. You caught me!"

I look to her, baffled. Well, that drove her off.. But I get the feeling that she'll learn from that mistake of hers next time. I've learned that Katie's specializing in Anti-invoker combat.

Now that I think about it, could this Over vs Over sparring be to get ready to fight other Overs in the field? That's all the worse... I'll need to train a lot to get ready for that...

There are some ideas floating around.
>>
>>23118536
I said freaky augs, that refers to the weird looking stuff like shrimp arms, mollusk shells, scales and plating.

I'm iffy about trying for Paladin. Paladins tend to be divine warriors who channel GOD to do stuff. That is edging WAY too close to trying to channel something too big for us.

>>23118503
I admit a bit of a kneejerk reaction when it comes to channeling something from a fictional universe. One thing in it is linked to the core principles of the world. Like being a D&D wizard, we would need to recreate the fundamental basis of in order for it to work right leading to us having to drag way too much magic in. I'm worried that diglett would drag too much spiritual baggage with it. Err on the side of caution.
>>
>>23118603
Ah right, we'd have to do some really intricate shit that'd kill us.
And the Paladin thing would bring our personal power outside of us, which I doubt would be a good idea.. :L

Dranule, can we try to learn from the Keeper or whatever her name is? The one that shifts animals?

I just read through all 11 parts of this, and geez OP, you have a really interesting and nice universe going on here. It seems a bit... preparatory right now, but I figure that'll pass in time.

I guess we can go eat breakfast with Katie or something, make sure she isn't hurt.

Send a card to Drake too, make sure he knows we really don't hate him or anything.

Awh sweet, alright.

It is prepatory in a way. I had trouble deciding on certain things as I rolled it in my head for about a year or so, but I figured with the quest and forcing myself to "Canon" I could achieve real development. And it's been working very well.
>>
>>23118709

She can feed Omar. If she wants.

I'm sure you guys can fathom after that first meet that she's a bit of a nutter like most others around here.
>>
>>23118654
Aria Seer, the Handler.

She'd make a good friend for Omar, she does pretty much what he does with his Evolution Shift, though she applies it externally rather than internally. We could talk shop about animal traits to borrow.

Incidentally I noticed something interesting about the relations of Animist, Invoker, and Evoker. If we separate things into three categories, Self/Soul, World, and Flow you find that Invokers use the Flow to Modify their Self/Soul, Animists use their Self/Soul to alter the World around them, Evokers channel the Flow to alter the World. While there is a bit of overlap and Animists might mess with flow a bit, it fits pretty well. None of the three are opposite each other, they're all at different points on a triangle.
>>
I force my body back into a mostly human state, I notice that my right arm won't revert completely, still retaining some of the shell-like exoskeleton, yet maintaining a mostly human form.

Everything else returns to a state as normal as I'd like it. The arm bothers me, and makes me think a bit of Fauna and how she's in that weird demon-like state. I wonder if that'll happen to me...

I head on over to Katie, giving her a shoulder.

"Ouch.. heh, thanks. You're.. Really nice, ya know?"

"Well, I did it. Might as well give you a bit of help."

I feel her warmth, and I catch her scent in our closeness. I feel a part of me flutter a bit...

Do I.. have a crush on her?

>[] Yeah, she's really neat. I could get used to being this close.
>[] I... I can't decide that yet... I don't know.
(quick personality-type question, I'll be typing the next part right away. modding the flavor should be quick.)
>>
>>23118713
As a person who tried to do literally the same thing as you (develop an idea with a quest), I respect the success you've gotten so far.
>>23118725
Oh god.

Here's an idea, Dranule, because I am a horrible person and GM myself.

So we're supposed to be able to shift into phoenix form, right? Who says that didn't give her any ideas?

PHOENIX V PHOENIX HEAVEN OR HELL LET'S ROCK
>>
>>23118725
I meant since where we are is eventually going to turn on us, can she make our form useless?
>>
>>23118763

>[] Yeah, she's really neat. I could get used to being this close.
>>
>>23118763
We need to keep our options open, for now. I know it's a bit inhuman to just "decide" to like someone, but doing that would only restrict us. We'll have time later to decide who's really important to us.
>>
>>23118764
I doubt she can do that. First, she's an Evoker, she alters other things. Second, the things she makes have to fit in reality, if they induce Paradox I think she'd have to constantly feed them magic to keep it up and then she'd start bleeding from her eyeballs.

>>23118763
[X] Yeah, she's really neat. I could get used to being this close.

It's not completely committal but she's the nicest person we've met here, and she probably fucks like a tiger.
>>
>>23118770

This is an important question here...

I had thought on animists and Evokers using their powers against other Overs or even regular humans.

As a general rule, Flow-based powers require direct contact to successfully manipulate the body.

It has to do with the protection that the soul/aura provides. Only way to counter is by pitting your own aura against theirs.

In the chapter that violet first appears, she touches Omar before making him black out. However, Violet's power is an exception to the rule as she provides "suggestion" to people by emitting an idea through the flow. People subconsciously pick up on it and comply.
>>
>>23118804

Yes, Evocation that defies the general perception of the world require feeding.

Wallie for instance, assembling the walls costs something. Maintaining the structure (based on material) hardly anything. Enforcing the material against a blow it shouldn't be able to take? Requires feeding.

Anyway, gonna focus on next part...
>>
>>23118825

Hmm. I'd say the greater the distance, the weaker the effect.

Violet works around that by using a weak effect continuously, so that the effect builds up over time.
>>
>>23118825
That'd be interesting. It makes sense, though I'd figure that really powerful Evokers/Animists could pull stuff like that off from a distance by throwing enough mojo at it, the brute force approach. Just flooding the Flow around someone with something and have it affect them by osmosis, not very efficient.

Though I could see there being exceptions to that with an Invoker or Animist. An Invoker takes flow into themselves and Animists put part of themselves into their surroundings. If someone did the Flow equivalent of poisoning the well they might be able to inject what they're looking to do into the Invoker/Animist's Flow/Soul.
>>
>>23118901

That actually is the case for why Evokers hold an advantage over Animists.

An Animist that doesn't "Cleanse" themselves or "guard" their spirit risk taking in odd and damaging things.

An invoker though, if they're at the limit of feeding, or Evoker has a clearly higher plane of power or experience, they could just flood an Invoker as you say.
>>
>>23118968
Huh, got it right.

I wasn't thinking about the Invokers being able to feed on Evoker stuff right then. They can't handle too much of it, but they can usually get enough to give them an advantage unless they're up against someone who can rip them a new one.

Question since I don't remember. When an Invoker feeds on something the Evoker makes, for example feeding on them making a wall "strong", does the Invoker get the benefit of channeling "strong"?
>>
Yeah, I like her, she's warm, and she smells nice even when she's covered in sweat from a spar. I move my hand a little closer to her breast and she doesn't complain.

Helping sit down on the bench, she smirks a bit more than a smile really," Well, you got a good hit in.. Fractured a rib or two. Shouldn't take me too much to realign them for healing."

"Well, it's nice that you guys can heal like us too.. It'd be harder to hold back if you didn't."

"Not like an invoker. We have to think about it.. When I got here, it took me a month to heal the injuries I had coming in."

"Injuries?"

Katie smiles a bit nervously and looks away, before looking back a bit sheepishly,"Ye-yeah.. I had some injuries coming in, it's why I didn't take the assessment until around the time you got here... Eliza visited me a lot though and taught me a bunch of things about being an Animist, she's a really nice lady.. She's also the one that recruited me..."

I put a knuckle to my temple and rub out a starting headache... She gets Eliza, while Fauna, who's only shown up twice since I've gotten here to yell at me or strangle me.. Wow did I get the short end of the stick...

I strain a smile at my mounting anger," W-well, it's nice that you've had proper instruction. What you do is still incredible in its own right. I guess each type of Over has it's own perk, right?"

"Along with repercussions, heh..Oh!" I hear an audible pop from Katie's ribcage.

"All back in place now! a few were broken before, I'm surprised it wasn't one of the other ones..."

>[] Ask Katie about how she found her power.

>[] Go to Breakfast, (continue prior options there.. Also... PICK YOUR FOOD)

They can take "Strong" or convert it into whatever else they want.

So long as they can take whatever magic is channeled, they can dispell it and use the boost against the owner.

I kinda doubt she's with Drake, she said he was no fun to play with.

[X] Ask Katie about how she found her power.

We can ask her if she likes us after/during breakfast. Let's get to know her past a bit more. And we should eat Italian, it's always good.
>>
>>23119057

Despite the "hard mechanics" of each "class-type"

Due to Overhumans being able to specialize, there are bound to be exceptions to these rules.

As well as those that are exceptions to the cycle of "Weak vs/Strong vs)
>>
>>23119093

A Strong vs Animist Invoker would be a "Soul Eater"?
>>
>>23119166

Y U Sage? U troll?

Not necessarily. That's hard mechanic, though an Invoker strong enough could beat the ever loving shit out of an Animist due to power diff.
>>
"Your other ribs are broken?" This kind of surprises me... She doesn't show any sign of being in pain or anything..

She nods slowly," Umm, yeah.. Training and assessment. Lots of things are broken. I have a fracture in my right leg, along with most of my ribs, and my left arm. It's ok though, not a big deal."

I furrow my brow, that's a big deal, more than a big deal..."Why didn't you tell me?"

"Because you probably wouldn't play with me." She leans a bit against me, I feel her body..

"Of course I wouldn't, why would you put yourself through that?"

She beams," You need to take more classes. Animists can fix themselves and keep going longer than most should. I'm used to the pain though, it makes me feel alive."

"Alive? How..."

She puts a finger to her lips, shushing me.

"It just does. Don't worry about it."

I'm suddenly reminded of Fauna and how she had said that her powers came to be, Katie though, Katie's different right? I know I'm different...

"Katie."

"Hm?"

"How did you come by your powers?"

She looks down, and then back to me, coquettishly," Really wanna know?"

"Yeah, I asked didn't I?"

Gotchya, well, we're far from autosage I think.

Long version, if she wants we can give her ours as well, with choice bits removed, can't exactly tell her that we don't do Beast Mimicry or anything like that.

We should probably move this somewhere more private, maybe have breakfast delivered to either her room or our room.

Onepunch is epic.

I also recommend Dreamland if you like random/cool adventure.

"Well..." She's about to begin, though I hold up a hand. Hold on a moment... Would you like to take this to a room? I know this is a bit private.

She seems a bit surprised, though begins to flush and nod," Y-yeah, we can go to your room, if that's ok?"

I consider it for a moment... My room is full of Swag because of my Phoenix form getting me major creds.. she's probably not had the fortune..."My room it is."

Katie gets herself comfortable and I order two sets of breakfast. She lays back on the bed and giggles as she sinks into the memory foam slightly.

"My father had been abusive since I was younger, not in the way that you'd normally define abusive though... More in the way that he'd play games with my mind. Demeaning me and making me feel like... heh... well shit, about a lot of things.

Most of the time, I got by with just avoiding him when I could, the times that I did make contact with him, it was just more, eh.. abrasive treatment. I started cutting a couple years ago because I figured that it could relieve the stress.

It worked, kind of. . . He chewed me out for that too. I felt that.. for the longest time, he was just angry because he didn't understand why we had to live the way we were. Low income, welfare and foodstamps in Chicago.. He took out his frustrations on me.

When the sky changed, it was amazing and terrifying in the same sense. I thought that with that, my life might be able to change. That maybe my father would see it as something pretty or something... He hung himself that day.. I was happy. . . Happy but sad. I miss him even for all the wrong he had done to me.

He was my dad after all.. So I lived on the street and...

Oh, heh, umm.. You asked how I found my power, right? Sorry, I kind of lost track there... You're the first person I told all that and I didn't even ask... Heh.."
>>
>>23119392
my dad was starting to become an over... he was burning walls and then one day he was just gone...
>>
Katie gets on the topic," My life took a turn for the worse when I had to live in the streets. There were some nice people, however the homeless began to removed by the government once, we, Overs became public. Eliza had said it was to keep a control on the dangers of our powers.

Well, the police scared me. I ran, and I kept running and hiding, I was good at it since I had hid from my father so often.

Eventually, I messed up, and I corned myself atop of the Willis tower. I didn't want to go, and so... I charged through the window.

In the middle of it, I thought," I don't want to die. I just really don't want to die."

I survived the fall. Nearly everything was broken. In the hospital, the doctors had said that I may never walk again.

It hurt, it hurt like anything else, but I was able to walk the next day. Tests were run. and I got visits from men in black suits. Eventually Eliza came to me. saying that she had taken care of the men in the suits. And after that.. Well, you know the rest." She finishes her story with a shrug and a smile.

"For me, my childhood was pretty standard. Normal family, normal life, nothing out of the ordinary.

Then the change came and after a while my father started setting things on fire by glaring at them. He was scared as hell, after a bit he ran, he didn't want to bring 'them' down on us as well.

Later some policemen came to me and my mother's door, they took us with them, saying they were investigating a missing person report. After a bit we noticed that he wasn't on the level.

Faked being sick, got him to pull over, tried to run and fight, he caught me, mother shot him in the head.

Then a pile of black cars showed up, my Mother awoke as an Over, she managed to take them out before dying, she shot the cars and they exploded. I had to hold her dying in my arms so she could pull the trigger on the last one.

I ran, Fauna caught me, beat me 90% to death, let me recover and did it a couple more times. Can't think of a bone she didn't break.

Then I got dragged here."

Well, I would have never guessed that she came from such a horrible upbringing... Who she is seems... so different. I touch her shoulder and pull her gently and wrap my arms around her. Feeling the warmth of her body and the beat of her heart. I'm careful with my half-mutated arm, to keep the carapace-like claw from scratching her.

She nuzzles into my shoulder a bit, and I can feel her start to shiver and sob as her smile fades. "It's okay Katie. You've got a new home now, right? We're pretty much family here.."

After a few moments of her letting it out that pent up pain, she perks back up, smiling as usual, wiping tears out of her eyes.
"Th-thanks Omar.. I, I kind of needed that. So.. what about you?"

I feel her start to slip from my grip and I let her go to recite the summary of my own tale..

"For me, my childhood was pretty standard. Normal family, normal life, nothing out of the ordinary.

I wasn't there at that point. I came in a bit after the Jedi idea. That was a truly terrible, terrible, terrible idea. I have made it my mission to avoid such incidents from happening once more.

Fauna is a couple steps beyond insane, even by Renaissance standards, and the high octane survivors guilt and self-loathing she's carrying around don't exactly help.

Katie chuckles a bit at the end of my story,"
Well, you had a nice mother.. I'm glad I could help you with that. I've heard a lot of bad things about Fauna... But I haven't heard of her confirming any of it herself... She brought you in, she should be taking care of you.

You know, showing you around, telling you about things..."

I shake my head," I've tried defending her, I have. and she's only shown up a few times to pretty much scream at me about money go off about how much I'm not listening and being an idiot, and..." I rub my head. Thinking about Fauna gives me a damn headache. What the hell is even her problem anyway?

(Personality Question)
>What do I think about Fauna?

Do not say this to Katie of course.

"She's crazy as hell, has more issues bottled up in her than pretty much anyone else here. She's hard to get along with, and literally beat me half to death to see what I was capable of.

But, she's protecting me in her own way. She's given me good advice on what to reveal to Renaissance and what not to reveal. On how to remain impressive, but not so impressive that they look too closely and dissect me or consider me too much of a threat to live. She doesn't let me get too close to protect me, both from herself and from Renaissance so they can't use us against each other. She was the one who came in and saved me from the fire, she cares, somewhere deep down in the shriveled remains of her heart in between the beatings and stranglings. Still, complete bitch."

In my internal musing,I find myself physically nodding.

Katie looks at me with an inherent curiousity," Umm, Omar, heh, you ok?"

"Y-yeah, I'm fine. You might be right about Fauna. She's not so bad."

(Going to end this session here, hope you guys enjoyed this little dynamic with Katie, I've already got plans for next time.

I should be hosting again Wednesday/thursday.

Likely, Wednesday will by Grand Ocean, and thursday will be Overhuman.
