Good evening once again, ladies and gentlemen! It's time for Civilization Quest again and here's some good news! Your Gm's actually in a fantastic mood for once! Does this mean less horrible things going wrong and disaster after disaster trying to ruin the tribe?

HELL NO! Let's get to the game!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Ready to roll.
>>
Now it's time to check Ya'Jal... a fucking useless bone spear, that just happened to be bathed in demon Blood and Bile.

Who knows, I might get my wish.

Also we need to expend a point to ask the gods what the fuck just happened.
>>
>>23128098
This is me.
>>
My body is ready.
>>
Let's do this.
>>
there's four, lets get this going. More will show up. They're just not used to you being on time Brit.
>>
Count me in!
>>
Howdy and let's get it going
>>
>>23128043
And I'm here. Late as always, I am.
>>
Right, ignoring the name I managed to accidently leave on my first post, let's get this show on the road! Sorry for the delay.

When last we left the tribe, the creature that was Xotel had been driven off, but it was now time to decide on actions for this round (Moon 12 - the last month of winter)

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>23129160
>Right, ignoring the name I managed to accidently leave on my first post,
I would have never noticed. But thanks for the laugh.

Can somebody post the options we voted on last time?
>>
B) Hunting with Trym and the Wolf Priestess
E) Masonry research, start figuring how how to cut all this stone we have lying around and have been doing nothing with.
F) In the dead of winter we bring together the clan heads in order to discuss our current situation and our plans for the future. The priests will be here as well and everyone is invited. The war taught us we must become more organized and have a better power base. This will be the first steps towards discovering what our tribe must become to survive. If we must have a chieftain. Use the speeches from thread 58 to try and gain support.

Also as a speaking action:

Go ask Gerin what Groza thought of the expedition, and if he would help point them in the right direction to holy ground.
>>
>>23129160
For some reason I can't view the last thread in the archive but I do recall our food being nearly gone so I'd throw in hunting for one or two of those options and then for the third I'd like to ask the gods wtf just happened.

Hell, we need to call on Khione too before winter is over. She seriously needs to know about what happened.
>>
>>23129226
This is me.
>>
>>23129226
I'll second this but along with or instead of Gerins speech I'd rather have us get Khiones priest(ess) to call upon her so we call tell her what happened to Svell.

Putting that off might not go too well.
>>
>>23129226
>>23129500
Sceonding these.
>>
>>23129529
same
>>
>>23129500
Go for this.
I don't think we need an Action Point for talking to Khoine since talkings are free
>>
>>23129546
Bumping for hour without update.
>>
>>23129226
Hrunti's new priestess is relatively fresh to her duties, but she still has more than enough enthusiasm! Her basic grasp of Hrunti's secrets, coupled with Trym's hunting experience mean the tribe manages to bring home a healthy haul of meat from the animals in the forest.
>72 Meat gained from hunting

The Wise Ones start to consider a better way of building. Wood rots and catches fire, it warps in the damp and generally leaves a lot to be desired, especially with the tribe's only rudimentary level level of expertise. Stone might make a good alternative, but it's no-where near as pliable as wood and simply piling broken stone up is unlikely to work without some serious practice. Try as the Wise Ones might, they cannot yet fathom a way to use it for building. Yet.
>Stone-working and masonry is still a distant dream

The heads of the tribe's families are gathered together in the dead of winter, shortly after the demise of Svel. The Wise Ones, the priests, the heads of the families all speak long and deeply about an important topic... The choosing of a leader for the tribe of the Long Fangs, a Chieftain.

> By Josh
Long Fangs, hear me! I come to you today on the eve of a great event for out tribe. Not concerning the welfare of our friends, not concerning some great war but something much, much greater: Ourselves.

For many and more generations our people have lived under the rule of our family elders and, by and far, this has worked without flaw. It has taught our children the difference between right and wrong, how to be strong, and how to deal with the trials and tribulations of the world. This has made us great, this has made us numerous and this has made us the center of a fledgling confederation. But it has a less romantic side.

Those same values that made us strong now weaken us by making our decisions slow or even unenforceable in the few times we have reached an agreeable consensus. They weaken us by being unwieldy. I remember the groans of becoming bothersome to maintain when we were a much, much smaller tribe and now at nearly a thousand souls all told, the bother has turned into outright frustration. I have seen this in my family and I know, in your hearts, you have seen it too. Surely we all remember the battle before the Sun Village? Each warband leader doing as they thought best. Tell me, how did that end for us? I praise their courage, do not doubt me in that, but there must be a better way!

What I now suggest does not come without serious thought. We are looking at a change to the very foundation of our society and it will not come easily but it is a change that we should, no, we MUST make. We must present a united front and that cannot be done when our village is represented by nearly half of our people. Surely such an arrangement cannot last much longer as we continue to thrive as a people.

Please my friends, I have said all I can and I end with a simple request. Give this some consideration. The future of our tribe may well depend on your answer.

> From ImperialBro
"People of the Tribe, we gather here today in the cold and darkness of a bitter winter. We gather as a show of strength, a sign of force against this world that wishes nothing more than to destroy us completely. A sign of force against a world full of gods and beasts an men who would wish us harm, and so we stand here today as an army, defying them and their demands that we kneel and accept our fates."

"We are an army, each and every man and woman a soldier, every elder and child too. We fight a battle for our very survival, to continue our own existence. The moment we stop fighting, we lose. And the moment we lose this battle, we are gone, another flurry of snow in the blizzard of reality. We are an army, but we are not invincible."

"We can, however, make ourselves better prepared to face the harshness of the world. Every army needs a strong general, and so too does our Tribe need a strong leader. A leader skilled in the ways of trade, knowledgeable of the riverlands, and wise in word and thought."

"I stand before you in the cold, asking if such a leader exists amongst us. Who will take responsibility and lead this army into battle against gods and beasts and men and even the seasons themselves? Who of you will guide this army through times of drought and starvation, disease and sickness, war and death? And most important, who among you can lead this army to victory?"

If there is a man, let him step forth.
All in favor of the candidate say "Aye"
You know the drill.
>>
>>23130997
The greatest problem facing the tribe however is that no-one knows how best to choose a leader! Each family believes their patriarch or matriarch should be the one to rule, or else their most favoured child. Others claim that a hero, like Trym, should be given dominion; Gerin proposes a tournament; Derrik refuses to offer an opinion. Salina backs Gerin; Rina argues that the choice should wait until all are present, as Mikuhla has still not returned and Naveen, the priestess of Yeneth, backs her. The debate seems endless, unless someone can come up with a solution!
>>
>>23131122
My solution? Wait until Mickey comes back. It's only fair, I guess.

But at that point we have a kingsmoot. That should make ref happy.

Anybody who wants to be a leader or nominate a leader will come forward and tell the tribe of their accomplishments and their mighty deeds. The crowd will choose with their cheers who shall lead the tribe.

I think that's moderately fair.

But that all depends on when Mickey gets back. I say if he isnt back by next winter then we decide regardless. Putting this off wont make it any easier.
>>
>>23131461
I agree with this. Can't think of anything that would work better...
>>
>>23131461
Sounds good. Wouldn't be right if the most controversial 'bachelor' of the tribe wasn't there to give his vote.
>>
>>23131461
Oh, and if Mickey comes back before next winter, then we decide the month after his return to the village. Unless, of course, there are more important matters to attend to. That sounds pretty likely as these things go but as I said, this cant be put off forever.
>>
>>23131122
I'm surprised Derrik doesnt bother to comment on the idea of choosing a leader though but he never comments on anything to be honest.

Every pack needs and alpha, yes?
>>
>>23129226
Between the meetings, Gerin seeks to commune with his god, asking for advice on the expedition the devouts and he undertook, earlier in the year. Groza, it seems, was pleased by the idea, but merely offers the advice, "Look for a place where the will to fight is roused. I am not bound to a place, like the river, or a type of place, like the wolf. I am where battle is. Build a shrine in a place that inspires warriors to fight with all their heart and it will be sacred. Just make sure it's plenty impressive. I won't be out-shone by Hrunti or Chani."

>>23129500
Khoine comes at the calling of her priestess and instantly can tell something is amiss. When she is lead to the shrine by the river, she lets out a wail of grief, rushing to her brother's side and collapsing to her knees beside him. The pale-skinned spirit covers her mouth, reaching out with a trembling hand, but unable to bring herself to touch her brother's still body. As her priestess gently tries to explain what happened, the air becomes unbearably cold and a chill wind starts to whip the snow into the air.
"First I cause the deaths of others simply for seeking to come close," mumbles Khoine, "Then the first human to show me kindness is taken from me and is punished for my selfishness... Now I lose my brother as well?" The blizzard reaches such intensity that the tribe has to flee from the small shrine. Through the howl of the wind, an anguished scream of grief can just be heard, before the wind ceases, the shrine to Chani torn to shreds and both Khoine and Svel's body have vanished.

A great hunting expedition is assembled and sets out into the forest. Once again, the three heroes set out and under a mix of their leadership, experience and magical arts, the hunting party brings back a healthy haul of meat and pelts from the woods! Derrik complains, but not over-much, having had the winter to rest his tired old bones. It's clear that he is slowing down however (though many suspect this to simply be an act) and he respectfully asks that the tribe leave him be at the Wolf Oak, unless there is great need for him. With the young priestess to take over his duties, he figures he's earned something of a break.
>72 Meat gained from hunting

As has become almost routine, the trees of the forest are cleared back and more land opened up for the village's fields. The fields themselves are now quite extensive and the clearing is just in time for the spring planting too!
>The fields will now yield 250 units of food on an average harvest

The priests spend a great deal of time conferring with the gods and re-assemble at the turn of the moon with grave faces. The news they bring is fairly dire; none of the gods have any clue where the 'demon' came from, with the exception of Hrunti. Derrik explains why he was sound asleep on the day of the demon's arrival. "The beast was a nightmare," he explains, "It came to Xotel in his dreams and manipulated him to paint its visage on his shield. It has been drawing closer ever since the battle. The fighting with Svel drew it in even more, like the scent of prey draws the wolf. When I awoke that day, I sensed it only then and immediately tried to fight it within the dream realm. Sadly, it escaped me through the shield before I could catch it. Xotel made himself a conduit and vessel for it to enter the mortal realm. It is fortunate it could not subsume Svel's power, else it would have been MUCH deadlier."
