I'm going to run a Quest using the "Harry Potter and the Roleplayer's Game" anon has created.

I have a preplanned story or rather a "mystery" to be solved for you first year at Hogwarts, following the format of the films. You will start as a first year. I haven't played a Quest Thread with this much attention to mechanics so this should be interesting.

Without any further ado I'm going to let anon role for their character. A crucial thing to take into account is that OP can and will make mistakes, so bare with me on that.

Roll 1d3

1. Pureblood - receive a +20 to the skill rating of the following skills:
Wizarding World.
2. Halfblood - receive a +10 to the skill rating of the following skills:
Wizarding World, Muggle World, and Technology.
3. Muggleborn - characters receive a +20 to the rating of the following skills:
Muggle World and Technology.

We're a Pureblood. I'm filling in the character sheet as we go.

Anon I need you to roll six 2d10's, if we hit the same one twice we can roll one more until we get a different one.
>>
Rolled 1, 6, 9, 7, 4, 5, 9, 5, 10, 10, 6, 1 = 73

>>23173608
>roll six 2d10's
You mean 12d10's?
Or you want 6 posts with 2d10 each?
>>
Rolled 3, 2 = 5

I'll roll for the first to bump the thread.
>>
Rolled 10, 1, 7, 15, 5, 6 = 44

>>23173674
Or how about 6d20s, results cut in half?
>>
>>23173685
How do you cut an odd number in half?
Does the larger half go to the first or second roll?
With a 7, is it a 3/4 or a 4/3.
It just doesn't work.
>>
>>23173771
You round up.
>>
>>23173674
Okay using this.

1. Antisocial

Antisocial – The child simply has a hatred of everyone and everything around them, driving
them to isolation and performing cruel acts with frightening ease. You gain an extra Degree
of Failure on rolls involving compassion and empathy. You gain a +5 to your Intimidate and
Con skill ratings.
>>

inb4 the dice give us the edgiest mother fucker ever then stick us in Hufflepuff
>>
>>23173823
2. Supernatural Luck – Your luck cannot possibly be natural. Its nowhere near "bottled luck"
levels, but things just tend to work out slightly better than they might for other people.
Whenever you spend a Fate Point, you may roll 1d10. If the result is an 8, 9, or 10, you gain
the benefits of having spent a Fate Point, but still retain the Fate Point.
>>
>>23173893
(holy shit we're edgy)
Hexer – Dark Magic comes disturbingly easy to you. Hexes, Jinxes, and Curse spells are like
best friends. You gain +10 to your Casting skill rating for Dark Magic, though you suffer a -5
to your Persuasion skill as people are less incline to believe someone so familiar with the
dark side of magic.
>>
>>23173860
Name's Nigel Planter. Of Hufflepuff House.
My parents beat me with candy canes and left me to go on an expedition to the antarctic. They never came back. I was then sent to live with my grandparents in Glastonbury. They locked me in the toolshed. I perfected the arts of ninjutsu, kenpo, and dabbled in darker eldritch magics before receiving my letter, saving me from a thousand years as the servant of a demonic lord. I'm pretty much wanted by the forces of good and evil, but I'm just too apathetic to deal with it. So yeah, I'm a pretty random guy who just likes to have fun and live it up. I hope we get along well these seven years at Hogwarts, but don't get on my bad side.

Good god, we're turning into a young Severus Snape.
If only we had been a Halfblood, we could be listening to Linkin Park while we wear our dark robes and mope about.
>>
Rolled 3, 1, 7, 3 = 14

>>23173924
Enemy – You have pissed someone off. Your presence drives them to rage and plots of
making your life suck. How did this happen? Are they in a feud with your family? Do they
think that you do not deserve the luck you have been having? Whatever the reason, they
hate your guts and will constantly go out of their way to make your life and the lives of your
friends a nightmare.

(We also received "windfall" allowing two more rolls for this - excluding another windfall)

>>23173674

5.Near-Death – Through your own accidental mishaps or no fault of your own, you nearly died. You stop and analyze everything, trying to make sure that you will not die again anytime soon. You gain a +10 to your Perception Skill rating, but if something reminds you of how you nearly died, you must make a Composure skill roll at a -20 to keep functioning.

6.Spiteful Rival – You have a rival who is spiteful and will go out of their way to show you up. Your success stings when they hear about it, and being even just is not enough for them. They will strive to outdo you, even going as far as making trouble for you and making you
look like a goof.

Alright, so we've been given absolute shit for our "Windfall".

What was our Near Death experience?
Dementors? Death Eaters? A trip over to Asia went wrong and we found ourselves within a Cambodian black magic nightmare where the only escape was death (or a good enough facsimile to fool the requirements of the curse)?

>>23174195
I'm liking the Cambodian curse angle. Besides bringing in a part of the wizarding world we don't get to see much (other magic traditions), it ties into us being a Hexer and being so good at curses; we were the victim of a powerful one.

>>
>>23174360
Is this final? I'd like some more creative control over the character here.
>>
How about a twisted sense of morality and inquisitiveness where we think that the hexes/jinxes/curses are not 'evil' on another person if we have already applied them to our self.

This would fit with antisocial ("Don't cry, I made all my teeth fall out when I was five"), supernatural luck (Obviously needed since we haven't accidentally killed our self), Near death (Nearly did kill our self) and Spiteful rival (Character that we tested on or did in the past?)

To keep shit moving we'll add to what we have as we play. Now we receive 250 points to spend on attributes. However this is a long process for quest thread so instead you can choose three subjects/traits to specialize in and I'll average out the rest.

Look it up in the pdf - page 11.
>>
>>23174570
Yes, I was thinking that we talk to it.
And tell it all of our secrets, because it, our familiar, and our wand are the only friends we need.

>Kind of weird that casting and dueling are separate.
I think it's like the difference between Sport Shooting and Combat Shooting.
Casting let's you make sure that you do the spells right; Dueling reflects being able to cast while under pressure and someone is trying to kill you. The former is about casting the spell correctly, the latter is about getting it there before the other guy as long as it's mostly correct.
>>
>>23175360
Maybe. Or we could enchant the doll so that it also functions as a diary. We're anti-social, so it's likely we have a diary where we write down our thoughts.

Cunning, since our Intelligence is better than Charisma
Lightning Reflexes, because being the first to cast means getting in the first spell.
>>
So basically it's like Crabbe and Goyle did the fusion dance and the result is every bit as awful as you expect

Cunning makes up for our bad Charisma more effectively by circumventing it completely.

Unicorn Hair.

Within your wand is a hair from the mane or tail of a unicorn, a rare and
powerful magical horse. Wands with this core are often harder to turn to the Dark Arts, are loyal, and the core can ‘die’ if seriously mishandled. Wands with this core give you a free re-roll with Casting skill rolls once per day, though you gain no extra effect from having Degrees of success and you take no penalties for having lost a duel. If you fail three casting rolls in a row, however, the core dies.

Aspen – The white, fine-grained aspen makes for stylish wands. Aspen wands are known for their Charm work as well as the propensity for dueling. Owners tend to be strong-minded and determined, often with a revolutionary streak. Aspen wands add +10 to Casting skill rating for Charms, and +5 to Dueling skill rating.
