Freak Quest time!

In this quest, you take the role of a big armed, friendly freak, who is currently adventuring with his two friends, a lizard like freak named Joey, and a strange merchant. Together you 3 are searching for the merchant's lost steed, who should be in the pumping station.

Previous threads can be found here:
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=freak+quest

In the last session, you, Joey and the merchant ventured into an abandoned chamber complex, in your attempt to avoid the flying drones of house Lienis.
In order to find your way to the pumping station, you asked directions from a bitter wall drone, who sent you on a fetch quest for a bone spine. On your quest, you discovered additional augs, and strange objects, faced against a creepy noble guardian creature, and witnessed how the wall drone was consumed by mutations inflicted by the bone spine.
Thankfully, he did give you the directions you needed, before he did..whatever he did with the spine that caused him to mutate into a feral freak.
You, the merchant and Joey headed towards the pumping station, but decided to take a nap before exploring further.

You are waken up by Joey, as she moves from your lap.
"We cant sleep the whole day, no we cant."
She says, as she stretches her back.
The merchant is still asleep, leaning on your arm.
From the nearby opening to the pumping station, you can hear slow, steady rush of noises, that are unfamiliar to you, and exotic scents you can't recognize.

What will you do?

In this quest, I am planning on introducing a simple ruleset for combat, so that it wont be completely arbitrary.
The basic rules are these:

There are 3 stats, strength, toughness, and agility, in addition to them, there are hitpoints.
All stats are capped at 10, and the baseline hitpoints of a gutterborn freak like the MC are 6.

Attacks are handled like this:
The attacker rolls 2d6.
The first roll is for the attack damage, second for the speed.
Damage: 1d6+str+modifiers (if there are any)- the foe's toughness.
Speed: 1d6+agi

The target of the attack may try to either dodge or block the blow.
Dodge: 1d6+agi-Attack speed.
Bloc: 1d6+toughness -attack damage.
Ties go in the favor of the attacker.

These rules are still work in progress, and I appreciate any input on them.

Anyways, your current inventory is as follows:
>2 small containers filled with biogel (2 biogel dozes)
>2 empty small containers.
>1 medium container with 5 biogel dozes.
>1 compound eye.
>1 strange syringe of unknown purpose.
>Cutting tools.
>Claw arm.
>A walking eye bladder.

>this picture is also in work in progress.
>>
Ask if the merchent wants any of these mods? He has been helpful and we've probably added enough for a while.

You wake up the merchant, by lifting away your arm that he was leaning on. The sudden smack against the floor of the tunnel wakes him up, though he is somewhat annoyed about your trick.

"I was having a good dream..yees very good. Well, it is the time to explore the station, yees?"

>>23200209
A slight correction to the rules I posted:
The block and dodge attempts are compared to the attack damage and attack speed. There are no reductions. The higher number wins.

So if the attack damage ads up to 4, the block has to be 5 in order for it to pass. Same with dodging.

You ask the merchant if he would like to have any of the augs you still possess.
He declines, saying that he has no need for the augs you have, and that they won't fit his style.

"I am perfectly capable of defending myself..yeess if you hadn't stumbled upon me when I was weak and wounded...well.. Anyways that's behind us, yeees..we allies now..good allies."

>>23200389
I am afraid that there is not. The stats are basically only for combat, as I feel like the combat should have some rules, so that it wont be completely arbitrary.
>>
Lets head on to the pumping station then.

Don't be too open about going to the station, though. Every time we go somewhere there's some fucker ready to chase us.

You walk outside.
You are at the end of a large "staircase" that goes down to the ground level. The exotic scent and sounds are carried by the wind, another thing that is new to you. The wind blows from the direction of the massive pumping station.

"Look! Blood! So much blood!" Joey yells, as she leans on the fleshy railing, peering at the scenery behind the pumping station.

"Yees, yees, it's the Red Sea. It's not blood." Says the merchant.
>>
I see some freaks down there. By the look of them they're fighting too.

Lets avoid them for now and seek out the merchents ride.

You begin to cautiously descend the "stairs", keeping your eyes on the freaks bellow.
Thankfully, it seems that they are moving somewhere else. They don't seem to be fighting however. You can hear vague yelling, but they are too far to make out any words.

>>23200764
You ask this from the merchant, to which he answers:
"Well...eeh..I don't..know. It's not blood, at least completely..yees, I know blood's taste. The Red Sea isn't blood...Some guilds and Houses, like Lienis, extract nectar and other stuff from it, and fishers catch things from it, and sell them to us. It's not blood though, that's for sure."
>>
ask the merchent where in the pumping station his ride would be... then head there I guess.

Only bother with the nearby freaks if they approach us
>>
>>23200906
Well yeah, advance wherever. We have no idea where to go, engage the merchant-drive.

Also, is this stat system exponential or linear? Because I have a hard time believing we are only as strong in comparison to the merchant as the merchant is in comparison to Joey. I'd much more believe that we're twice as strong as he is and he is twice as strong as joey.

You reach the end of the stairs.
The other freaks are continuing move away from you. You ask the merchant where you should start looking for his steed.
He smiles, and says:
"That's an easy task..yees..he and I share a bond..I can smell his blood.. He was wounded when the bonehead ripped me off from him, and I think he came here to recover..Yees, there is a secret warehouse of my guild here. He must have went there to heal."

>>23201222
You are strong, yes, but you must also realize, that you are not exceptionally strong, not yet at least. When you faced the merchant and subdued him, he was wounded and in a very weak state, probably near death. Despite his lanky appearance, he is an adult freak, and his body is far more developed and augmented than yours.
Of course, in time, you will grow into much more stronger freak than he is, but for now, you are still a newborn.

The merchant says that if you two help him, he doesn't mind you seeing the warehouse. It's not super important place anyways, and the real secret about it is how to get inside it, not that it exists. He also says that he has full intention of recommending you two to his boss, as potential employees.

"However, we have a problem..yees..those tree gutter wretches are loitering near the entrance to the warehouse." The merchant points at the 3 freaks in the distance. They seem to be yelling and very agitated.
>>
Welp. time to test out those augs we got. Joey should start to climb above them. See if she can get the drop on them. Us and the merchant should approach openly and demand they leave at once. When it does devolve into violence Joey should land on the one in the back while you two charge in.

If the merchant thinks he can be better be used in a mabush case we'll go confront them alone and hope our toughness is enough to take a few blows.

You and the merchant approach the 3 freaks cautiously, and thus far, they haven't noticed you. As you approach, Joey climbs on the wall of the flesh structure, to an advantageous position over the 3 freak.

You can now hear their yells.

"Come out! Come out you big dumb drone bastard! Don't make us come for you! We will gut you alive!"
"Yesh! Yesh! Alive alive! Eat your bones!"
"You should give up peacefully, fool, you can't flee from us. You can't hide there forever!"

A bellowing howl emanates from the opening front of which the 3 freaks are yelling:
"Come you cowards! I will break you, you pathetic gutter runner scum!"

The merchant suddenly seems very agitated.
"They are pursuing my steed...yees..they will pay dearly.."
>>
>>23202241
Joey goes in first and shanks the one with the pincer arm with the poison. She then positions herself in such a way that they look away from us. Then we BATTERING RAM the entire group, then engage them in a melee while the Merchant goes inside to get the Steed to help us in the fight.

While you and the merchant begin to plan out what to do, you continue to listen to the other freaks.
The yell of the merchant's steed silenced them for a moment, but soon, the one with the bony armor and sword begins his threats anew.

"You have nothing on us! We know you are wounded! If you were able to fight, or even move, you would have gotten away from that hideout of yours while I was gathering my gang to take you out!"

"Yes, you will die, sooner or later. We have time to wait" Continues the 6 limbed freak."

"Let's crush him! Yesh! I wanna rip his flesh!" says the pincer arm freak.

>wat shall you do?
>>
Right Joey should drop onto pincer. The retreat. We shall play the classic battering ram to one or both the others. Then club them to death. The merchant should follow in our wake and take any attacks of oppotunity he can.

>>23202304

You have the initiative, as they haven't noticed you.

The attack plan is this then:

Joey attacks the pincer dude with poison stinger.
You ram the other two.
Mercenary helps what he can.

You need to roll the attacks.

Joey's attack:
1d6+1(stinger). The poison will also do additional 1 damage every turn.

Your attack (charge):
1d6+2(str)+1(agi)

So basically, you need to roll 4 rolls, the first two for Joey's attack damage and speed, and the second 2 for your damage and speed.

>I have no idea of wtf I am doing.
>>
Rolled 5, 5, 2, 3 = 15

Assign as needed
>>
>>23202743
I understand this.
Joey
5 for attacking (before damage calculation)
8 for speed

Main Freak
5 for attacking
4 for speed

Maybe a penalty is needed for the surprise attack?
>>
Rolled 6, 3, 2, 4 = 15

you could roll as well, hes bene using a best of 3 since tg's dice is ... fickle.

Rolled 4

>>23202743
>>23202883

Because you have the initiative, the other's do not get the change to dodge, or block, with the exception of the 6 limbed freak, whose eyesight allows is to detect you few meters before you hit them.

Joey jumps at the pincer arm freak and he takes.
5+1-1 damage, which leaves him at 4 health.
Joey will need to make a speed roll for retreating.

You charge at the remaining two freaks.
The armored dude takes.
2+2+1-2 damage, leaving him with 5 health.

The quadrupedal freak tries to dodge:
1d6+2
If the result is higher than 4, she will be able to evade the charge.
>>
Rolled 2

Rolling for joey's retreat

Alright time to plan the followup,

We should work on holding the pincer in place. Let Joey's poison work its magic while we try and bash it to death. Joey should do a hit and run on the quadraped.

Merchant should deal with the twoped.

Joey attempts to retreat.
2+3=5.
The pincer arm tries to slash her in anger.
Damage:
1d6+2+2(crushing pincer)
Speed.
1d6+2

The pincer arm also takes 1 point of poison damage, leaving him with 3 health.

The quadruped lunges at you, using it's two slashing claws.
Damage:
1d6+1+2
Speed:
1d6+2
>>

>>
Rolled 6, 5 = 11

>>23203526

The pincer arm's attack misses and Joey manages to flee.

The quadruped attacks you with 7 damage, and at speed of 6.
You can either try to block, dodge or take the damage, which is reduced to 5 by your toughness.

The merchant lunges at the quadruped, his limbs suddenly sprouting sharp spikes from his palms.
Damage:
1d6+1+1
Speed:
1d6+2

5+2 vs 7.
It's a tie, and thus, you fail to completely block the attack, and the damage is halved. You take 4 damage, which is reduced by your toughness to 2.

You quickly move your armored arm to ward of the blades of the quadruped, but you only manage to block the other blade. The quadruped slashes your torso with the blade, leaving a large bleeding wound across your chest.

>>23203597
The merchant stabs the quadruped for 8 damage. As it was in combat with you, she could neither dodge or block, and thus takes 6 damage, due to it's toughness of 2. It now has only 2 health.

The merchant's blades surge into the cracks of the quadruped's carapace, causing her to scream in pain, as the merchant twists the blades. She hastily tries to retreat from you two.

The armored freak has recovered, and tries to lunge towards his weapon.

The pincer freak has also recovered, and turns to face you, though he is visibly weakened.

Rolls:
1d6+2 for quadruped's escape.
1d6+1 for the armor freak reaching his blade.
>>
Rolled 6, 6, 6, 1 = 19

Since I'm pretty sure the merchant just wasted that quad (8 damage) and hes gonna have to roll a 6 to dodge I'm changing the plans slightly.

You finish off the pincer while Joey and the merchant deals with the one who was stunned.

Rolling for both us and Joey.

You let the quadruped escape unopposed, which she does with haste, without even looking back at her comrades.

You hear the armored freak yell something like "cowardly whore!" after her, but you are not sure, as at that moment, you smash your armored arm to the face of the pincer freak.
The poison clouding his mind causes his reaction speeds to slow down, making him an easy target. The force of the strike sends him flying backwards, and when he hits the ground, he is already dead.

The armor freak manages to reach his blade, but as he is about to stand, he is knocked down again by Joey and the merchant.
He can't resist both of them.

let the author decide that. Just go ahead and roll.

Slice off what augs these things have then lets go see how the merchants ride is doing.

As far as the combat went it seemed to flow fairly smoothly.
>>
>>23204158
It didn't suck, it was just hella confusing who was rolling for what at which time. That needs to be made clearer, otherwise it's okay.

Also take one of the small canisters of bio-gel and apply half of it on the wound, then drink the rest.

Then check the corpses for worthwile loot or augs worth taking. Maybe we can make a pair of pincers now we have two.
>>
>>23204231
we should leave one normal hand, for more dexterity and shit.
>>
>>23204265
No, I mean, let's just see what comes out of the looting. Four arms is also possible, you know?
>>
>>23204163

Sorry if I made it confusing.

I basically rolled for the opposing freaks, as well as for the merchant, as you didn't give him any direct orders at the start, other than that he would help.

In theory, how this should have gone down is this:
1st phase: You attack, and because you have initiative, the opposing freaks can't dodge or block, with the exception of the quadruped, as she had keen senses. Damage is applied.

2nd phase: You get a new turn to attack.

3rd phase: the opposing freaks can attempt to dodge or block. Damage is applied.

4th phase: The opposing freaks get their turn to attack.

5th phase: You can either dodge or block. Damage is applied.

and so on and so forth.

Of course, this didn't go down like that, mostly because I am not familiar with the ruleset yet, and I have never done anything like this before.
>>
we could always attach a third arm with pincer... but that way probably lies aughound

The armored freak curses but doesn't try to resist Joey or the merchant. It might be because of Joey's poison stinger looming delightedly close to his unarmored side.

>>23204231
You quickly apply the biogel to your open wound, and drink up the rest. The wound starts healing immediately, and as you drink down the orange nectar, you feel empowered and energized.

You begin to interrogate the freak, starting with asking why they tried to hunt down the merchant's steed.

"What..Why did we hunt it? A big, meaty carriage drone, alone in our turf? For what any other reason, anything happens in this wretched place..."

You also ask about his clan.

"...clearly..filthy gutterspawn..a shameful end for me..Ultros is the mighty leader of these lands, his clan rules the everything between the great Grub Way, Red Sea, and the Bulwark...Witches and guilds may operate here, but only because Ultros tolerates it..We are a legion, our numbers are too great for the weak nobles of Lienis to oppose us..everything here, belongs to him...including you."

We roll our way. I already know the merchant won't give a fuck if we kill this guy or befriend him, he's dead to him anyway and this was just another street justice happening like it happens everywhere in this city all the time; it's nothing special. But we can make something special out of it.
>>
how? By sparing this guys life? We killed his partner. He has more reason to come back with his clan to kill us then anything else. Look at how he is addressing us. Our friends ride is meat. We're gutter trash. Filth. Worthless. And you want to make him a 'bro'
>>
>>23205522
>We're gutter trash. Filth. Worthless
Which we are, combat capability low, we're barely a day old. Besides, in here everyone is or at least started out as gutter filth, including him. We'll become something more once we've made a name for ourselves. We can make that name by piggybacking on someone else's reputation like a little bitch or setting a standard.

I want to set a standard people will respect you for. Honest Abe.

You continue to question him about his rank and about the clan.

"..you wretch are awfully curious..my standing in the ranks of the clan was claimed with blood and blade..you cowardly scum and your ambush..The mercenaries I hired were idiots...that whore fled, and that clawed imbecile was unable to fend himself against that lowly rat.."
Joey hisses angrily, and moves closer to the freak.

"Call your venomous whore away, if you want any answers from me! You two are playing with stakes far greater than you know...naive gutter scum..the streets will eat you in few days..."

Joey looks at you, agitated, her stinger looming very close to the neck of the armored freak.

The helmet of the freak partially gives in, teeth fly out, and he begins to spit even more blood than he already was spitting.
You tell him to not to insult Joey.

"...he..he..ha...ha..khk..khk..I see...that you already...have a master....hahhahaha...! You grab his sword, and swing it.

"..khk..forgive my failur CHOP!"

And his head is sent flying.
Few raspy breaths emerge from the stump of his neck, before he collapses to the ground, dead as a rock.

"Yees...quite boastful he was...don't believe everything you hear...Ultros is just another gang leader..Yees, he exists because Lienis house is too busy elsewhere in the city, to kill that bastard and his clan..yees, but things have changed...a nectar boil in the alleyways...yees.."
The merchant trails off, as he starts to examine the two dead freaks.

"Bone armor..yees! Good stuff, not that cheap...only guilds know how to make it...This fellow was not a lowly drone..no..bone equipment, good bone equipment especially..expensive..Either stolen or paid.."

He moves to the pincer freak.
"..chap gutter runner merc..thick skull, tiny brain..not smart..now very dead...yees..strong pincer though..can be sold..sensory bundles...could be of use..."

You loot everything you can, favoring the most valuable stuff, that the merchant points out.

In the end, your skin bundle that you have thus far used for carrying stuff, it pretty full, and very heavy.

Your inventory is as follows:
>1 small containers filled with biogel (1 biogel doze)
>3 empty small containers.
>1 medium container with 5 biogel dozes.
>1 compound eye.
>1 strange syringe of unknown purpose.
>Cutting tools.
>2 Claw arms.
>A walking eye bladder.
>6 eye balls.
>Tentacle bundle.
>One pair of sensory frills.
>Bone armor set.

You are also carrying the bonesword.
>>
>>23206828
Apply bone armor to ourselves.

Are we going to turn the walking eye bladder into a full-grown pen now or what? Can we harvest the maw with the huge amount of teeth from the other guy and attatch it to it? That would make a good attack dog.
>>
>>23206906

The bone armor is unfortunately too small to properly fit you. It was most likely custom made for the freak you killed. The merchant says that some of the crafter guilds of the Yellow bazaar could perhaps shape it to fit you. His abilities don't extend to bonemolding.

As for the bladder...thing..the merchant is unsure. He originally took it as a joke..the thing doesn't have proper brains or nervous system, it mostly wiggles around and monitors things...but he could maybe slightly enhance it.

"If you want make it into a proper servant drone however...you need to consult the witches..yees...cursed vat whores are the only ones who know how to make and shape living things to that degree.. other guilds might be able to ad mouth and make it more..useful..but only vat mothers can make it into a proper drone..."
>>
>>23206973
Let him 'slighty enhance it'. We'll see if we can't do better or if Mother Nature can't let the thing grow into something unique on it's own.

But seriously, we shouldn't do that. We can sell that shit good, can't we? Let's ask her if she wants that first.
>>
>>23207035

The merchant agrees to try to enhance the bladder thing. He harvests some nerve bundles from the bodies, and begins working on adding them to the bladder thing.

As he works, you ask him about this idea:>>23207164

"Hmm..you are creative..yees..not an standard aug...very unique...could be powerful..and valuable...shame that I lack the skills...maybe some of the crafters of the bazaar could do this? Yees..the guild crafters are crafty and good with augs.."

You can ad the "ears" to Joey, but it will cost you half a doze of biogel. The other half will be taken by the work on the bladder thing.
>>

You ad the sensory thingies to her, while the merchant works on improving the bladder thingy.
Now Joey has enhanced hearing, and she can also sense minor electric fields with the "ears".

"They feel funny!" She says.

The merchant also seems to have finished up with his work.
You now have 5 dozes of biogel left.

Suddenly, a gurgling howl comes from the chamber nearby.

"Javak! In maker's name, what are you waiting out there!? I know that it's you! Come and help me you bonehead! That bastard stabbed me!"

The merchant suddenly springs up and shouts:

You follow the merchant to the chamber, and as you enter, you see that he is already busy tending his companion.

"How could you forget that I was here. You must have smelled me and heard me?"

"Well, I had to check the loot we got from the scum that we killed..yees, profits must be always acquired."

"We? Do you mean those two newborns standing at the door. Who are they?"

"They are the gutterspawns that stumbled upon us when we were arguing about the nectar boil with the scumbags of the alleyways. You wanted to eat them..yees..but I think they are good material for Godal.."

"I was hungry then...I see that you have legs now..how?"

"Used the nectar to grow them..from the boil you see...the bonehead almost killed me when he ripped me off..yees..very painful..I thought that the gutterspawn would have killed me when they came back..but no..the big arm wanted help and advice, and I provided..yees..we have traveled together since..to find you.."

The two continue to chat, about what they had experienced, and stuff you don't understand. The merchant doesn't really pay any attention to you two, as he is focused on tending his steed.
>>
>>23208143

You and Joey sit down, and continue to listen the gabbing of the merchant and his steed.
The subject quickly changes into political discussion about the effects of the new biogel well opening in the alleyways, and what it will cause.
You don't understand much of it, but you do hear some interesting phrases and tidbits such as:

"The Lienis house has already claimed the boil, they went straight at it, even before the witches showed up. Yees...either lucky or maybe they knew beforehand..."

"They can't hold it. Ultross will be all over it as will the witches. Lienis lacks the manpower to secure the well completely."

"But if they have the well, they can quickly increase their numbers. Yees, they might take the risk."

"Depends on if the guilds ally with them, instead of Ultros. They won't want the witches to get the well."

"Godal will go with Lienis. They pay better. Yees..good old Godal, always knows what to prioritize.."

"Well of course he will go with Lienis..the question is the other guilds. The Osols might go with Ultros..they have supplied them in the past."

"They won't dare to enter open conflict against Nobles...they will be free prey to the witches if they do that.."

"The witches don't have a strong presence here."

"Strong enough..yees and with the news of a fresh well, they will flock to this district like flies to a carrion.."

The discussion continues, and you understand less and less of it. It mostly is about the politics and how these "witches" are manipulative whores who assimilate other guilds or something.

Curiously, the merchant doesn't ask for biogel at all. It seems that he had some of it himself this whole time, and he basically vomits it over the wound of his steed.

You decide to go forth with your questions:

After listening to them, the merchant and steed look at each other, and the merchant smiles.

"Yees...curious one. I am not the best person to answer all those questions, but I know who can. What do you say..kid..do you want to go all the way to the Yellow Bazaar, see the great cartilage bridge and meet Godal, our master? He can answer your questions better than?"

"Yes, child, we are just humble merchants after all." Continues the steed. "Well, at least I am humble. Javak has a habit of telling tales."

The 3 core ideas of the rules are that they are easy to use, simple and fast.
The combat in this world is fast, and lethal. I hoped that the rules could help me emulate that, and I think that I did at least partially succeed.

The combat scene, with all the rolls that were made, took only maybe about 15 seconds or a minute.

Anyways, seeing how this thread is still up, we can use it to discuss the setting itself.
Are there still people around who would be interested in that?
I can answer some questions, and participate in the discussion much better now, seeing how usually I am dead tired when the quest ends, and people offer input.

Also, here is are some freaks. I used the pincer one in the quest.

Here is also the map of the areas that the quest has thus far, taken place in. The red markings indicate tunnels/chambers and pathways inside the structures that you have explored.

Freak is the name used for almost all the inhabitants of the Flesh City. Their shapes are extremely diverse, and so are their mental capabilities. Some are simple beasts, and they are treated as such. The "society" of the city, is formed by the freak population, who posses roughly human intelligence, and thus, the less intelligent freaks are not that prominent.

Most denizens of the city are spawned by the city itself. These gutterspawn form the lowest level of the ecology of the city. They are the lowest of low, and only the luckiest or the hardiest of them manage to fight on their own and grow strong enough to join the freak society proper. The city and the societies in it resemble a food chain, more than they resemble a proper civilization.
Atop of this food chain, are the Noble houses. The Noble houses are the most powerful factions of the city, only rivaled by certain guilds, such as the Vat Mothers.

The nobles themselves, are not that related to the common freaks. Unlike most of the citizens of the city, the Nobles can reproduce, which allows them to keep up their lineages, and thus, maintain their status.
Most members of the Noble houses however, aren't nobles themselves. They are vassals, servants and drones, that serve their noble masters.
The nobles themselves are almost mythical to the common freaks of the city, as they are rarely seen outside of their spires. They rule their territories trough their lackeys, who have usually been gifted with powerful augments and engineered to be superior to the common freaks.
>>
>>23219797
ok thanks dude, I have another question then, From where they get the bio-weapons and the nutrients/food to sustain themselves? Also why are the Noble differents, for example a random Gutterspawn can be "fertile"? If it's part of the plot feel free to tell me so, I will understand.

inB4 it turns out that there haven't been any nobles for, like, ever, and the entire shtick of the Noble Houses is actually just a handful of really smart and old gutterspawn keeping the illusion up that they are better than everyone else for no reason at all.

You know, just like nobles did it in real life. Take /that/, society.
>>
>>23220010
With 'fertile' he means that they can have children. They have a dick or a vagina and reproductive organs to match (I hope?)

The whole "civilization" in the city runs on the biogel, which is basically nutrient rich, organic slurry of stem cells and nanomachines and so on. Everything in the city is made from the stuff. All the organic stuff in the city, started out as biogel.
Of course, this is meta knowledge, and most of the denizens of the city only know that biogel heals them and allows them to augment themselves.

Most freaks get food by hunting down other freaks, or consuming the flesh growths of the city itself. There are advantages in both strategies. By eating other freaks, the hunter get's more nutrients and biogel out of it, as all freaks contain certain amount of biogel, especially very young ones. One of the main reasons why gutterspawn are hunted is because they are basically walking bags of biogel, waiting to be extracted.

On the other hand, by simply feeding on the city's fleshy growths, walls and floors, freak can avoid fights and devote it's energy to simply munching on the scenery. Of course, the fleshy floors and walls contain very little nutrition value, and not that much biogel, forcing the freaks to spend most of their time just "grazing" on the flesh.

Also, regarding the fertility of the gutterspawns:
Sexual reproduction is not reserved only for the nobles, but it is most common among their ranks. They have engineered themselves to be more capable of reproduction, over their generations, though, their "children" are more akin to precisely engineered servants/tools/ successors. The nobles create offspring to expand their power, not to maintain their lineage, as most of the nobles are in practical senses, immortal.

Common freaks may have the ability to reproduce, but most of them are sterile, due to numerous reasons such as lacking equipment, or genetic defects. The changes of two fertile freaks meeting, in favorable conditions, and successfully reproducing are quite slim, though not unheard of.
>>
>>23220327
>The nobles create offspring to expand their power, not to maintain their lineage, as most of the nobles are in practical senses, immortal.
Evidence that Nobles are just a fabrication of smart gutterspawn continues to acumulate.
>>
>>23220327

The only faction in the city that has truly mastered the art of creating freaks, are the vat mothers. They can, quite literally, take biogel and shape it into a freak of their design. These skills have made them the most powerful guild in the city, and also the leaders of the most influential religion, that worships them as the prophets of All Mother, the city itself. They are aggressively spreading this faith among the freak population, gaining support in doing so.

Even the noble houses depend on the services of the Vat mothers, as the commissioned combat drones the Vat Mothers can create are far greater in quality than any of the houses can themselves make. These commissioned assassin and war drones are used in the wars between the Noble houses, which in turn, fuel the Vat Mother cult even further. That is not to say, that the Nobles are blind to the threat the Vat Mothers present. The Nobles often collaborate with weaker guilds, giving them protection and privileges over the Vat mothers, in exchange of services and loyalty.
The weaker guilds are threatened by the cult, as the Vat Mothers are hell bent on assimilating them all under their fold.

The conflicts between the Vat Mothers and the Nobles often escalate when new biogel sources are found. The nobles have the near monopoly on the gel, which makes the Vat Mothers in turn, dependent on the Nobles, for their continued operations and growth. Of course, the Vat Mothers are aggressively trying to find and claim new biogel sources, in order to break free from their dependency on the nobles, and the nobles in turn, are trying to stop them.
The third faction in this political mess of the city, are the weaker biocrafting guilds, and the various minor houses, clans and gangs, who opportunistically fight for turf, resources and ally themselves with the other factions.

Remember, most of this is meta knowledge, and only few people in the city have any idea of the full extend of what is going on in the city.
>>
>>23220490

I guess that I should explain some of the termilogy.

Drones are basically freaks, who have either bee n specifically commissioned and engineered for a specific purpose, be it an assassin, builder, guard and so on, or freaks who have been enslaved and forcibly augmented to be good at a certain task or purpose. In the end, the only difference between the two types is that the engineered drones never had any freedom in the first place.

Many factions use the gutterspawns as a stock drone material, regularly hunting down young spawns, capturing them and reshaping them to suit their needs.
>>

>>23220703
Explain the statue and the spine thing last thread, what was the statue and what the crap was the spine?
>>
>>23220750

Well, if I explained it, the mystery would be ruined.

But if you want to know, here it is:

The statue was a dickish Noble Guardian, who had been left to watch over the place when the original masters of the spire left. The spine was a control augment, that would have unlocked the neural network of the spire, and given't it's user full control of the place. The wall dude thought that he could use it to escape his slavery, but unfortunately, the spine was made in a way that it only worked on the members of the Noble family who used to run that place. Because the wall dude was not a member of the noble family, the spine caused him to mutate horribly.
>>
>>23220878
Couldn't we just rip him out and cover him with loads of biogel? Not that we had the resources nor a reason to do it, but would it have been possible?
>>
I vote for remaning nameless. Being known by our achievements sounds fun, more so than being "Galflax Coldob" or some such name.

Also, we need a nice weapon of some kind, maybe a big ass hammer or mace.
>>
>>23220921

Well, maybe, but it would have required loads and loads of biogel. The wall drones are freaks, who have been forcibly augmented in a way, that makes them dependent on the flesh of the wall they have been crafted into. Their vital organs have been torn out, and they rely on the vein system of the wall itself to sustain them. Removing them forcibly from the wall, causes them lethal trauma.

The wall dude basically planned on directing the biogel veins of the spire to himself, which would have allowed him to regrow his vitals and safely remove himself from the wall. It worked...kinda, but in the process, the spine caused him to mutate and loose his mind.

That works for me. Of course, the other freaks will give you a name at some point.

One thing that I must address is the way how empty the world seems to be when looking at the drawings I make.
The city is not really desolate, it is full of all kinds of things, creepy crawlies and small freaks who loiter around the tunnels and streets. The reason why in the drawings I post only your gang and some other large freaks seem to be present, is because I haven't bothered to draw the smaller, mostly insignificant things that crawl across the fleshy walls and floors around the characters.
I do that, obviously because drawing them would take extra time, and I am trying my best to draw as quickly as I can.

Anyways, here are some additional freak concepts, including the first version of the armored freak you captured.

Well, it's good to see that the people who were present when the setting was first created, are still around.
And yes, that character is obviously just a new version of the old arm head drone idea that I drew back then. I would say that my skills have improved somewhat, from those days.

That's a workable idea.
Would help out in crowd scenes very much.

Are there any more questions, suggestions, ideas or input you guys have?
I can also further elaborate on stuff, or draw more freaks, if you wish.
My drawing style kinda hides the fact how freaky the characters actually look. I am not that good at drawing in more realistic style, so I can't illustrate the real appearances of the characters that well.

Safe to say, I doubt that they would look "cute" in anything other than very weird or grotesque way. My simplistic style hides most of the minor mutated features in their bodies.

>>
>>23223160

Well, maybe, but not any time soon.
The outside world is even more hostile than the city itself, and the city is so massive that most freaks only hear rumors of it's edge.

I have a made a map of the district the current adventures are located in, and believe me, you will have enough area to explore in.
To give you a hint about the size of the map, it is about 2000x2000 pixels. Compare it to the area you currently have explored.

Also the reason why I deleted my previous post was because this guy has a point:>>23222967

I don't want that the quest looses all of the mystery it has, and I fear that I might have already revealed too much fluff. Although, I haven't really said anything that one could not dig up from the old gigerverse threads. So in a sense, I am just not choosing to repeat myself.
Seeing how I did come up with quite lot of fluff for the setting back then, in addition to the drawings.

Note to everyone else: since we won't get out of the city anyway in this quest (because this is GIGER WORLD and not BARREN DESERT WORLD) you can take everything written here as >opinions and make your own headcanon about what's going on.

I'll state my personal favourite:
The city is a huge bulbous growth on one of the continents of planet Earth, spanning many hundred square kilometers. It's the result of genetic shenaniganing and biotech going rampant and consumed everything in it's vicinity before being driven byack by vigourous napalm bombings and artillery fire. Now it's ringed in on all sides by security measures that make the Berlin Wall look like a lawn fence and is constantly monitored from orbit while it's kept quarantined at all costs.
There are pockets of surviving humans in the 'dead zone' between the giant blob and the killer wall; although barred from ever leaving the quarantine zone these little communities are linked strongly and armed to the teeth as well as well-supplied due to aerial supply drops from the outside. Add in that the 'original human form' is like a mysterious holy grail that freaks desperately strive for inside the City and that sometimes expeditions are sent into the Wastes to find some and you have a recipe for a massive questy undertaking. The Wastes themselves are only populated by the most vicious of aughounds and only the most crazy or the strongest would ever dare setting foot in there.

>>
>>23223386
I think that when the "why" of how the setting is explained it becomes more about "how does this even work" which takes away from what the setting is about, due to people's own tolerances towards a suspension of disbelief and percentage of rule of cool.
>>
>>23223410
There are probably many variations that can be made for Gigerverse.

We have the version used in this game, which seems to be close to vanilla.
There's the version you reposted.
Another quest run in Gigerverse had it so aughounds would grow to massive sizes. Normal freaks would build the cities out of dead aughounds.
>>
>>23223607
>We have the version used in this game, which seems to be close to vanilla.
Oh really? Have you seen how this world works in detail? Maybe we are all inside a tiny boil on the inside of a regular human's stomach and all of our adventures are just Osmosis Jones: The Grimdarkening?

This is what I like about Gigerworld. You can never be sure.
>>
>>23223607

That is true.

However, I will state that although my version of gigerverse is based on the vanilla version of it, I did continue to develop the setting in my head, ad flesh it out to quite detail, even after the threads died on /tg/. So it's safe to say, I have loads of stuff up my sleeves, that was never posted on /tg/.
You will see them in the quest, if you manage to get to the point when those things come relevant.

Another point I will state is that I will stay true to the lethality of the setting. Make no mistake, you can die. Of course, I won't make the quest in a way that aims to kill the characters, but there will be an element of danger involved, and if the rolls dictate that someone dies, they will die, unless there is some extra factors involved.
I might get too attached to the characters though. I draw them to look too cute, even for myself.

>>
>>23223661

Damn, I kinda liked that movie. It reminded me of this show:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6myuX4ubWRQ

As for the city itself, I am trying to base the designs and "architecture" of the city on organs and fleshy stuff. Despite the name Gigerverse, I have always seen the world as far more "bio" instead of the "mechanical" that is more heavily emphasized in Giger's work.
Also, the most obvious reason why my illustration of the world aren't that gigeresque, is that I lack the skills to imitate his art.

Ok, I finished up these concepts.

I tried to go for more freaky and inhumane look for these ones. Most of the freaks featured in the quest thus far, have been quite humanoid.
I am kinda wondering if I should have made the main characters more freaky, their cutesy and humanoid look makes them relatable and likable however.
I don't know if people would have liked the characters as much, if they looked more alien.
Of course, if I drew them in more realistic style, they would loose their cute looks very quickly, but that would take too much time (and skills that I lack) for this quest.

>>
>>23223751
On lethality, I think a new stat should be your saturation percentage, in this case, the amount of stored biogel within a character's body. For example the merchant is so soaked he can vomit the stuff up, probably a special mod. This is how quick you can recover from damage

Damage that would normally be death could be reflected in crippling injuries that need to be fixed, like a loss of eyes, limbs, disembowelment. Potentially loosing augmentations.
>>
>>23224827

That's actually a pretty good idea.
I welcome all suggestions for improving the combat ruleset. It should be simple, fast to use (no need for excessive rolling) and lethal. Thus far, I think that the 2nd and 3rd goals are somewhat covered, and although the rules are simple, people, including myself, did get quite confused when I tried to put it to use.

Also, I am wondering if there should be action points or something? Maybe they could better determine when the turns end and so on?
I am not sure though, they might complicate the system too much.

Though at this point, you only have one inventory box, because you only have one "bag" where to carry stuff. However, now that merchant has found his steed, you can use his storage space to keep your stuff in.

The size of personal inventories of the freaks, depends also kinda on their strength. The big arm guy can carry more stuff than Joey or the merchant.

Here are the 3 main characters, drawn in a more realistic style.
You can see the difference between young freaks, and the older ones, by comparing MC and Joey to the merchant. Notice the less "natural" look of the merchant, which indicates relatively heavy augmentation.
One of the reasons why the merchant hasn't been interested in the augs you have gathered is that he already has his own augments, that are in many cases, superior to the ones you have found.

When you first encountered the merchant, he was heavily wounded, and thus could not put up a fight against you.
>>
>>23237653
You said that we'd get much stronger if we'd just let ourselves 'grow' for a while in response to the Merchant, that stringy stickamn, being statted half as strong as we are. How long are we talking here?

And if my estimates are correct (and I do have reason to believe so) is this caused due to large parts of our internaly still being more or less raw biogel? You said that young gutterspawn are hunted because they contain large abounts of biogel; combined with your info that we still need to 'grow' to unfold our full strenght potential I conclude that we're still mostly jello on the inside that stil needs to actually form into muscles and organs. We should also heal easier and faster than the Merchant and not carry or gain scars as easily as he does.
>>
>>23237695

That is pretty much correct. You will grow in strength over time, but keep in mind, that you aren't even a day old, and you are still stronger than the augmented merchant. Scratch the stuff I said about you not being exceptionally strong, because you are. For a gutterspawn, you are pretty freaking strong.

>>23238269

These look great. They capture the living feel of the cityscape.

Anyways, here are a couple more freaks.

The first one is a type of tumorous aberration, which are "farmed" by other freaks, for meat, spare parts and traces of biogel. They are made from suitable gutterspawn (usually fat and helpless ones), who are then forcibly augmented, and then force fed flesh and tumors, that are too shit to eat for the most freaks. The ones who survive, will grow to be living meat and organ factories for their owners, who are usually either gangs or guilds. Nobles have their own, more refined methods of producing food, and the highest of them sustain themselves only on biogel, as their high status allows them to gorge on the precious substance.

The middle one is an operation drone of some bio grafter guild. It is basically a living toolbox, whose many arms and augs allow it to serve it's masters in many tasks, at the same time.
Each guild has their own types of operation drones, ranging from massive, immobile bloated things, with any arms, who resemble assembly lines more than living things, to smaller, mobile ones like the one in picture.

The last one is an assassin drone, intended for infiltrating gangs and clans, manipulating them to suit the needs of the master of the drone. They are often equipped with many tools to either sway other freaks, or to quickly eliminate them. Usually, noble houses send these drones in order to manipulate smaller noble houses, gangs, or clans to their own ends. These drones possess remarkably high level of intelligence, and freedom, as the nature of their tasks means that they can't be constantly directed by their masters.
>>
>>23238535
Assasin drone is hot as hell, I have to admit. Seems like that's the path Joey will be taking, with extra ranks in Diplomacy and Seduction.

What's Joey all about, anyway? She's... well, you know, the setting is one thing but a setting is worthless without the characters populating it. Can you give some info about her and what she's thinking and stuff?
>>
>>23239266

Remember that the assassin drone is specifically made for that task. It most likely never was a gutterspawn, as it was instead raised in the birthing chambers of the Vat mothers.

As for Joey, she is only few days older than you, and she is almost as clueless about the world as you are. You should ask what she is thinking in the next session.

>>23239266
Well I guess she is, then again she's three days older than we are, I'd have thought you'd learn a few valuable life lessons in those days. And form an opinon on one or the other things. Or at least a general mindset. To be honest I expected her to more or less reject the way we are thinking right now with the broness and everything and yell at us that it didn't work for her either. I dunno mate, just my two cents on the matter.
>>
>>23241269

Well, I think that most of our "bro" behavior has been directed towards her, so I fail to see a reason for her to complain. We have really been nice only towards her. The merchant got punched to the face when we met him and we only spared his life because he offered his help, we helped the wall dude because we needed information from him, and our behavior towards the 3 freaks in the last session, wasn't very bro like at all. Seeing how we did attack them, unprovoked.
>>
>>23241511
We didn't murder the merchant either and I kind of think we wouldn't have done it even if he couldn't have helped us any further; I mean, he didn't really threaten us or anything, we had no reason to. The wall dude we could have extorted or just punched repeatedly in the stomach with no fear of repercussions except having to backtrack in case we walked down the wrong corridor which would have gotten him killed if he had given us the wrong info and we came back for some good ol' revengeance. But we helped him anyway.

We've been nothing but a normal human being from the average western society with a bit more giger-proofness and a bigger wanking arm. I mean, the three guys don't count. They were about to kill the Steed guy and were openly murderous towards anything that passed in front of them. Attacking them wasn't necessarily evil or mean, just prudent or smart, in the same way that capping a rabid dog in the skull is.

Here are some aughound concepts.

The first one is a freak, who was driven mad due to the tainted pincer arm, that it grafted to itself. The arm was probably taken from an old aughound, whose insanity and degeneration had left it's taint to the arm.

The middle one was probably a mercenary or a warrior of sorts, who tried to improve himself too eagerly, and thus, was driven feral by the radical augmentation.

The final one's origins are impossible to determine, as it is far too mutated and degenerated to make out what it was before it descended into an aughound. Safe to say, it is old, and very dangerous.

>>23241269
>>23241655

Well, you pretty much dragged her with you, and have treated her fairly nicely. She doesn't really have any reason to object to your behavior. Her experiences in life before she found you had been limited to killing other weaker gutterspawn for food, and hiding from the big mouth. She was waiting for you to spawn, so that she could eat you, remember? However, you, as you might have noticed, aren't very weak gutterspawn, which is why she was more hesitant to openly attack you, as your physical strength is pretty apparent.

But again, if you want to know more about her, you should ask her what she is thinking and feeling during the quest itself.
>>
>>23242101
This started to make me wonder if there's any way to make tainted augs usable again.
>>

Okay, I guess we'll need to have a section where we must sit down and just get a few hours of thinking time in. The players will never waste any time for fucking around so please make something happen that can force us to talk and do nothing for a while.

How's things about age of these creatures? I mean, they're made of genetic duct tape mostly andare fully functional on first day after birth. How old can thy get, relatively speaking?
>>
>>23242709

Don't worry, I am planning on giving the MC and Joey some time to chat. You have now achieved the goal that you have been seeking for the past threads, finding the steed.

As for the age of the creatures, although the newborn gutterspawn are born mostly functional, they are still filled with biogel, and they will continue to grow and develop after being spawned. Also, not all newborns are spawned in equal state. Some spawns are more developed, in their mentality and physique, than others. It is all very random process. You and Joey are quite lucky ones.

The age limit of the freaks is a mystery. The nobles are said to be immortal, and in general, the freaks usually die out of violence, instead of old age. Of course, there are rampant diseases, mutations and cancers caused by unstable genes, that cause the freaks to die. But you can meet freaks who are hundreds of years old, though they are rare.
>>
>>23243010
I believe I remember a story out of the old threads that was designed as flavor text but which I lked a lot nevertheless- an old, very large freak with one massive arm that lives out in the 'danger zone' between the city proper and the aughound-infested Wastes. He moved there because the city was getting too tiring for him, emotionally speaking, and he was huge and strong enough to take out practically anything that could get on his nerves. He ended up running what amounts to a storm bunker / orphanage for everyone who wanted to just get away because he was a nice guy like that and people really didn't want to fuck with the giant.

You remember that?
>>
>>23243831

I do. It was a nice story.
I always liked the human factor in this world, despite their strange, even grotesque appearance, the denizens of this world are still people. At least, most of them are.

Here are some more freak concepts.

The first one is some sort of combat drone, geared for aggression and offence, pure and simple.

The second freak is a Noble enforcer. Perhaps the most common noble creature normal freaks might encounter. The Noble enforcers guard the inner chambers of the spires of the nobles and other places of interest, such as biogel wells under the control of the houses.
They rarely partake in the wars the nobles have, as the nobles utilize warrior drones for that task. However, when the enforcers appear, it indicates that there is something in the area that the Nobles have a keen interest in.
Like all nobles, each enforcer is unique, and their bodies are made to suit the strange aesthetic preferences of the nobles, instead of committed to combat. Despite their strange and often very impractical appearances, the enforcers are actually very dangerous beings. Their appearance hides their deadlines, and their physical superiority.

A normal freak is wise to cover before these ethereal beings, as the nobles are fickle, and there are few freaks, who can face the wrath of an enforcer alone.

Also, I could use some more inspirational music. Thus far, the only theme that really "takes" me to this setting is this:

Also, here is one of my older drawings, and the first appearance of the armhead drones, which grew to become an "iconic" drone type for me, as in I made numerous different versions of it and drew it many times as the setting developed.
There is also a harvester grub in that picture, which basically eats up dead stuff, and ferries it back to the depths of the city, where the biomatter is recycled.

Got any ideas to pitch in there?

I know of the Vatmother cult. There are probably also some legends floating around of the time before the fleshscape, assuming that the version of Gigerverse in use has a time before. Some may not.

>>23251919
Building off what this anon said >>23242657, maybe there were some aug made specifically for recovering those from aughounds. Pick the flesh of the previous owner off, flush out the blood vessels with fresh biogel. Maybe it's have to be taken apart and rebuilt/grown.

In most cases, it'd likely be a waste of resources, as most augments would be easier to create from scratch. This would only be used for some large, complicated, and incredibly rare ones.

>>

>>23250139

I would like to hear your idea.

There are religions in the city. The most dominant is the Vat Mother cult, but there are others too. For example, the merchant and his steed revere a the "Maker" entity, which is basically believed to be the divine force responsible for creating the city and living things in it. It is the original religion of the guilds, before Vat Mother cult was formed. The Vat Mothers put their own spin on it, and popularized it in the concept of All Mother.

>>23249919
There are ancient tales of ages past, but most of them are about the history of the city itself. Of ancient heroes, the founders of the noble houses, wars of conquest and destruction, ages of plenty and the times when the city wasn't as horrible place to live as it is now. There are whispers, forgotten legends of even older age, that took place before the foundation of the city, but only few remember them.

>>23251919
>>23252390

That's a pretty good idea, and I think I'll implement it to the game.

>>23252933
That looks great. Excellent job.
>>
>>23255679
this is just UI candy for the inventory screen, but in addition to the Soak/ Hunger bar, perhaps a corruption meter. Upgrading too quick, slowly makes you more aggressive, hostile, twisted. More major upgrades that are internal, things like whole new arms or ..know what? its too complicated. I think the bar is neat, but the level of corruption is something for the GM to decide. perhaps related to major things.
>>
>>23255974
I've been wondering. What exactly is the soak bar?
>>
>>23256277
its nothing really. a concept of how full/ soaked with biogel you are. how quick you can regenerate. but the more i think about it, the more useless it is. its another moving part that causes too much work.
>>
>>23256508
To be honest, right now our soak value should be at an all-time high given that we're newborn and probably more biogel than actual tissue on the inside. Consequently I'd actually want to tell the GM that drinking more of it shouldn't net us any bonuses or significant growth spurts because we're basically just 'more of that' on the inside.

I'd argue we need to drink blood or eat meat or something to grow right now. Or bone power so shit can actually form inside us.

We Tyranid now? Man, I don't like that direction. Also >drill, how the hell?
>>
>>23257975
its just my own fan art and concepts, things i imagine the large to small organizations could easily procure and use to protect their turf. Not all can afford independent swords and would have to settle for simple attached augmentations. The drill itself does not need to do much to be able to bore through flesh and is attached to very loose but strong twisted muscle strands, as they contract the drill spins very quickly for a limited amount of revolutions, before it has to uncoil. This results in a very rapid series of oscillations back and fourth.

Here are some more freak concepts.

>>23257960

Some of those are very basic, while other seem to be quite advanced.
I'd imagine that stuff like the dart augs can only be made by certain guilds, who sell them to the highest bidder.
Tyranids have always had a minor influence on the aesthetics of the stuff I draw, but mostly just visually. The chitinous and bony appearance fits into certain areas of the fleshworld and to some freaks.

>>23255974
>>23256277
>>23256508

I am still somewhat unsure of how to implement this, and what would it's effects be. It could ad an interesting dynamic to the game, or it could complicate it. It could work like a "food" bar, that indicates how much nutrition you have. Eating would replenish it (freaks produce a stable amount of biogel themselves, to maintain their bodies and organs, but it's not really enough to allow augmentation, and it is not "free". It is infused to the organs and tissue themselves, not flowing freely inside of them.)

>>23257153
The flesh of the MC and Joey is infused with biogel, and it is feeding their continuous growth. Muscles for example, are not yet fully grown, they are far less dense than the muscles in the merchant, as large portion of them is still composed of stem cell like "foam" and biogel, that are still developing into musculature.
In Joey's case, her muscles have reached the end of their growth, and she is not going to get that much stronger, unless she augments herself. In the MC's case, his muscle mass is so great, that it will take longer for them to fully develop,
>>
>>23258806
>and she is not going to get that much stronger, unless she augments herself.
>zero strenght score is maximum except if you swallow steroids
We need to hoop her up on every single agility and speed boosting stim and aug we can get otherwise she's dead meat. Also bone and skin reinforcement so she can bounce blade hits and get slapped all over the place by clubs without breaking apart.
>>
>>23258981

Look at her. Her body doesn't have that much musculature. She might raise her strength stat to 1 in time, but her basic body type is not that strong. She was born with an agile and flexible body, which doesn't have that much muscles.

Also, all zero stats is the baseline. An average normal human would have zero stats in this world. The gutterspawns in general, have stats ranging around 0, in either positives or negatives.

For example, there could be a gutterspawn, who was born without legs, making it's movements very hard, thus giving it the agility stat in the negatives.

I'd kind of expected a normal human to have 1 in all stats.

In any case, what can we do to make Joey go FULL SANIC? Is there anything but hormone glands that can boost speed?
>>
>>23259451

Adrenaline gland gives you the ability to boost your strength and agility by 1. People wanted the MC to get it. Joey got the pheromone gland, that has less applications in combat, as it doesn't directly influence stats. It however, allows one to sway people better in social situations, and maybe confuse foes in combat. I haven't yet fully defined the system of how the abilities are used. If you guys have any ideas on how to do that, I would appreciate it. The only thing I could think of was basically an action point system, in which each action costs a certain amount of points and so on.

As for speed increase, there are more advanced augments that can do that, probably.
Normal humans might have either all 1 stats or all zero. Everything is still kinda in a flux, as I am not entirely sure of the stat and rule set yet. Any advice and input on it is appreciated.
>>
>>23259529
>Any advice and input on it is appreciated.
Well I gotta say that on principle a human should be able to overpower/defeat the Merchant, as long as he doesn't go wristblade on them, for the simple fact that a human isn't genetic sludge haphazardly stapled together with what amounts to biological duct tape and glue.

Speed boosts and stuff, well, I remember being in a discussion about how Elves work before and people made an interesting suggestion that maybe Elves look that slim and sleek because they are incapable of collecting white fat like humans do; instead, their blood carries all excess nutritients and sugar or proteins in the blood cells and can therefore grant abnormal discharges of speed and strength if they are well-fed enough. Elves only gain brown fat if they are truly overfed; however, this would form into an almost kevlar-like subcutanean armor layer that would be as flexible as any other tissue but much more sturdy and giving both a cushion to soften blows and armor to stop blades or spikes.

Maybe direct physical grafts like blades and stuff are more like the absolute low-end scale of the biotech tree while these cardiovascular upgrades along with metabolism and actual biology upgrades being the real hot stuff. I mean, a better heart or a stronger liver, that kind of stuff would be medium range with grafts that actually change how your body operates being the best.
>>
>>23259627

Although a human might stand a change against some of the freaks, in a general note, most of the freaks who survive from the gutters and enter the proper "society" are hardy enough to be truly dangerous opponents to unarmed humans. The fact that they are "stapled together with what amounts to biological duct tape and glue", makes them relatively resilient opponents, due to various reasons. For example, they can survive from much greater physical trauma than a human can. The merchant had been ripped in half when you found him, and he was still alive (though would probably have died soon, if not for the biogel in the area.)

Anyways, the state of augments and their advancement is pretty much exactly the one you described. Blade arms, claws, stingers and so on are common and not that advanced things. The truly advanced augments and modifications are things that alter the whole freak on base level, or improve the bodily functions themselves.

Nobles are the extreme example. They don't have any visible offensive augments at all. Instead they rely on the sheer superior quality of their bodies to defend themselves against common rabble (though they hardly need to.) A noble should never be judged by it's appearance. Their strength may be many times greater than their flimsy appearance implies.
