Good evening once again, ladies and gentlemen! It's a sad state of affairs when it's been a whole week since the last thread, especially when it seemed the vast majority of my regulars do NOT, in fact, spend Valentine's evening with their significant others, but NO MATTER! For I'm back now to fill your Tuesday evening with joy and probably despair too; Civilization Quest is back and ready to ride!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

Previous thread is here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23128043/

The full archives are here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Red%20White%20and%20Britfag

The IRC channel is #Longfangs

Further, it has come to my attention that many consider this thread to be bloated and going no-where fast. Thus, I would like to announce my intention to streamline things and actually get this thread moving at a reasonable pace! Gods only know if that'll actually be achieved, but that's my intention! Let's rock!

Bloated and going no-where fast, eh? Just a little bit, a wee little bit. Enjoyable nonetheless!

Welp, I'm ready for this.

Ready willing and able!

On a scale of 1 to yes, do I need to have been here for the other threads to participate?

Not really. Feel free to vote or come up with options however you want.

Oh, Mr Britfag.

I went over our previous threads in regards to your last post regarding our crop production after it seemed a bit low.

From thread 56 until last thread we increased production from 170 up to round about 320. We've nearly starved for the last 2 years, lets not extend that please.
>>
>40 minutes later
>nothing has happened

I can see why people might think this quest is slow.
>>
>>23265488
Actually I was wrong, 290. Not 320. Then you add in the vegetables and it's 338.
>>
>>23265488
That was a typo. Production then went up from 170 to 220, not 320. It is currently 250.

As a heads up? In future, can the tribe kindly specify what they want expanding: Grain or other crop areas?

Start your voting now, gentlemen!

Thread 55 - As for production, your fields will now produce 170 units of food every harvest season!
>170

Thead 56A - The fields are tilled and expanded, adding another 30 units to their harvest yield, though not this year, as the planting has already occurred. The space is cleared for next year however, by the effort of many tribesfolk straining and sweating under the hot, summer sun. Meanwhile, the score-and-quarter of men and women are sent to the Lion Tribe.
>200

Thread 56B The fields are again expanded, now capable of producing another 30 units of food, they are quite extensive, stretching to the very edge of the forest, from the village walls!

Note: Also added irrigation in Thread 57.
>230+?

Thread 58 - The fields are expanded once again into the newly cleared land, before the ground gets too hard to work in the winter. The fields can now produce a grand total of 230 units of grain and 48 units of vegetables every harvest season.
>260
As has become almost routine, the trees of the forest are cleared back and more land opened up for the village's fields. The fields themselves are now quite extensive and the clearing is just in time for the spring planting too!
>290+

And then add the vegetables since those are separate.
>>
>>23266018
huh. Duly noted. Apparently I hiccuped somewhere else. Amending the field yields to a nice, even 300, plus vegetables (Only 48? Damn...).

Voting for action is still open!
>>
B. Send Trym and the new wolf priestess out to hunt for big game because we need the food and furs for trading.
D. Wild foods in the forest.
G. Expand fields. Again.

>>23266119
Trym and Hrunti's priestess again lead a hunt out, into the forests, bringing home a variety of meat-on-legs for the tribe! Morale during the hunt is not high however, as many of the hunters fear the talks between the wise of the tribe the previous moon and are afraid of the demon lurking somewhere beyond the walls of the village. The fact that there is no sign of the creature at all does little to assuage their fears.

The spring growth brings with it a great deal of fresh, new leaves and buds, not to mention an awakening of all the plants that have lain dormant over winter, now bursting into new life... And promptly getting snatched up and thrown in a variety of salads by the tribe's gatherers! The spring does not offer a huge variety, or quantity of wild plants, but a small, healthy amount is gathered.

While the bolder members of the tribe brave the forest, those at home take it upon themselves to expand the fields, clearing and tilling more land for vegetables to grow in. Sadly, this has two unwelcome side effects. First; the last of the bronze tools that were bartered for breaks, over-used to a ridiculous degree by the village's rate of expansion. Second, the fields of the village are now so extensive, the clan devoted to their care has been stretched to breaking point, adversely effecting the produce of the fields.
>Vegetable production up to 80 units
>All agriculture down by 10%
>>
>>23267532
No worries. We'll just do what ref suggested and have another family take up under the leadership of the original farm family. Thus the farming clan guild was formed.

The actual concept of guilds will require research. You don't even have a basic economy or regular trade set up yet, let alone a currency (if you go that route).

>>
>>23267753
The only issue I have with this set of votes is the fact that the last time we tried to help the farm family do anything with the fields they got incredibly pissy. Something about the fields being their territory when it comes to the village or some shit since they were originally given the task of working them and it's sacred.

Assigning them another family without making them somewhat lower level than the original family might not go over so well. You know, a hierarchy of sorts.

other than that? Bueno.
>>
>>23268461
I'm okay with that, consider it as an amendment to my original choice, if any of the people who voted for it have an issue they can raise it.
>>
>>23268488
The way I see it, if this works it could be a way to circumvent having to outright research (or at least reduce the time spent researching) guilds since that's pretty much what this would become, in a way. I mean, they're working together now, but eventually they'll try to outdo each other and gain prestige in their respective areas and potentially enhance our tech a bit.

If britfag wants to let it work that way, I mean. It's a reasonable argument, I think.

>>23267753
Seeing the family of crop-tenders over-stretched and spread thin over the fields, the council tries to address the problem. Seeing their chance for greater prestige, another of the families elects to help in the fields, picking up the slack. This IMMEDIATELY leads to conflict, as the first (now devout worshippers of Perwan), come before the council, livid with rage at having their 'sacred duty' usurped. The whole affair very nearly comes to blows... When help comes from an unlikely quarter. Naveen, the priestess of Yeneth, enters the council and proposes a compromise. The Aredor clan (the first family) will maintain their position as the foremost masters of the fields, while the other families also work the fields, under Aredor direction. This allows the Aredor to keep mastery of the fields, while also solving the problem of manpower (without leaving the tribe short-handed in other areas).

Hunters leave for the forest, just as fisherfolk take to the river. The resultant haul is quite welcome and should keep the tribe going for quite some time to come. Again, not everyone is entirely happy about leaving the safe confines of the village, but this issue is soon resolved, or at least reduced, by the festival!

The entire tribe welcomes the event. It has been a long time since there was cause for celebration in the village and now more than ever, the tribe feels the need to let off some of the nervous pressure that has been threatening to split it apart. With a reckless, almost desperate abandon, the Long Fangs throw themselves into the festival of music, drink, food and dance, improving the mood greatly!

As for Gerin and the devouts, they already spoke with Groza so I'd say we split them into four groups to search for a place fitting the description of what he said to look for and have them return by winter.

Im just going to throw down my options from earlier.

Still riding high on the wave of euphoria from the festival, the hunters seem much more eager to face the dark confines of the forest, putting their faith in Trym to lead them to glory in the hunt. They succeed with flying colours, even managing to trap a grizzly bear in a pit trap and stab it to death with relative safety! They return in triumph, overjoyed with the kill (though the pelt is too badly holed and bloodied to be of much use). Likewise, being grateful for the short break the tribe gave her, Rina returns to the river and soon has the tribe's baskets filled with fresh fish!

With summer rolling in, the yield of vegetables from the forest also increases, as does a small haul of summer fruits! Several of the village contemplate a few recipes that fall with the new grains and the promised fruits from the grove.

The priests of the gods, at the request of the council, retire to commune and learn more of the world of magic. Rina is excused from this duty as she is one of the two most senior priests in the tribe, alongside Derrik. Groza meanwhile, takes the devouts and again leaves on pilgrimage, promising to return by winter!

EVENT
Just after Groza leaves... A familiar figure returns to the tribe... Though he's not as he once was. His hair is bleached almost white by the sun, his skin weathered by harsh winds. He still looks strong, for the most part, but aged before his time. He leans heavily on his spear as he slowly walks back into the village, nearly collapsing several times, as people draw near to him with curious questions. He finally reaches the much-neglected shrine to Ermetha and kneels before the altar, re-consecrating it in her name. As he moves his hand however, to the astonishment of all watching, his palm leaves a trail of light. Then Mikuhla speaks. "I have suffered for my crimes. As Ermetha commanded, I have journeyed far in search of penance. Now I return, stronger for it. Ermetha is with me and I am chosen as her prophet."
