Sup, /tg/.

I made some tables to roll on. Anyone feeling fluffy and want to help me craft a space opera setting?
>>
why not?
>>
I'm always feeling Fluffy
>>
Very good.

First I need a d3 to determine what kind of universe it will be.
>>
Rolled 2

>>23302151

I hope it's non Euclidean!
>>
Also, the first response after my request will be the one used, and the discussion to follow will flesh things out a bit. Fairly standard procedure, but just wanted to clarify.
>>
>>23302202

Established human colonies in many places.

So mankind has already managed to get out into space and settle down a bit.

I need another d3 to find how how common aliens are in human space.
>>
Rolled 3

>>23302237

What'll it be doc?
>>
>>23302270

Aliens are very common in human space. Either man allows them into their colonies and systems or someone conquered someone.

>>
Rolled 3

>>23302313

We're losing it aren't we?

Most people live on giant ships rather than settle the planets. This either means the planets are incredibly hostile or mobility is of the utmost importance. Given that there's a brutal stalemate war raging over resources, perhaps the people on board don't want to be caught with their pants down should the fighting come to them?

I need a d10 to find out: what is that amazing thing everyone hopes to find, if it even exists?

I hope we're looking for something cool.

Maybe one of the races that fights everyone has already claimed most planets, some kind of sentient fungus or tyranids or something. They're almost impossible to eradicate once they've seeded a planet, and completely impossible to co-exist with (they terraform the planet in such a way it become inhospitable to other sentients). So, the other sentients tend to farm supplies from asteroids instead.

Okay, so we have the Earth Republic (standard stuff), a pair of corporations (what I assume are the two survivors of a period of intense corporate competition), the Nazi Aliens and then the Religious Faction.

I like the idea that the Religious faction was from a split during Earth expansion - the more religious states on earth just couldn't deal with the more liberal, secular values of the Earth Republic. But they had to band together since non-religious China would have out populated them.

So there's now a bizarre religious mixing of Islam, Catholicism and Buddhism.

Interesting.

I was kind of thinking Gnosticism. Knowledge holds the key to salvation, not simply a profession of belief. They acquire knowledge about the universe, attempting as they may to try and find the true nature of reality. The differing old religions are now more sects of the one faith than anything.

Actually, lets back up. There are two major p,or points we haven't touched yet that need sorting. First, what is the resource(s) that everyone wants so bad as to fight a massive war? Second, who are the survivors everyone wants to find (if they even exist) and why do they want to find them? I was thinking that the survivors were an early expedition out into the galaxy, but their ship malfunctioned and went down or something. They were presumed dead because they lacked sufficient supplies of said resource to do anything, but later there was a small signal that reached earth (or somewhere else) matching that ship, way after they should have perished. The survivors must have learned out to artificially create this precious substance, and theoretically, they have an unlimited supply. That signal was the last anyone heard of them. No trace of their ship or them can be found anywhere, and they apparently did not deem it necessary to return to earth (or somewhere) or let anyone know what happened or where they were going. Everyone wants to find the, because their presume knowledge can provide infinite resource, and thus the power to stop the fighting, or to conquer all others.

They are known only as the Alchemists for their (presumed) ability to manufacture a substance so precious.

What think?

If the theocracy hasn't been fully fluffed out yet, (sorry, I just got here, awesome thread, OP,) I'd say it should be the remains of Terra's military. Earth has effectively yielded and is on the run, and this would be their military that has 'gone rogue', and 'no longer under control'. Effectively, it is acting in earth/earth's survivors best interests, but doing so as a separate, aggressively militaristic entity. Kind of like a rearguard doing its best to buy earth time to rebuild and retreat.

The theocracy would enter as a pseudocult built up around defending earth and humanity; the "everyone is at war with everyone else" aspect would enter as they basically strike at everyone, including the earth republic; they have to to maintain the claim that they're technically separated from the republic itself and aren't just acting on its behalf (even if they kind of are).

Superawesome charts, OP. Totally looking forward to the pastebin.
>>
>>23304734

>>23304695

Yes. Of course, since there are more alien species than just the genocidal Merfolk, either the cooperative aliens in the corporations have their own homeworld or empire somewhere far away from the action, or their entire civilization has been absorbed by the corporations.
>>

>>23304734

>>
>>23304780

I must say I like the idea of the Theocratic faction still having a soft spot for Earth and their brothers and sisters, but if we need to kick your ass because the world spirit says so, then look out.

Keep in mind that Earth has more or less effectively lost the war already. They are in full retreat. Perhaps the theocrats are using this retreat to make their push into the Terran regions so they can finally come home?
>>
>>23304925
I like that, also who is making this specific push? The big corp or the water nazi's?
>>
Rolled 1 + 3

>>23304963
water nazi's would be more fitting
>>
>>23304925
Maybe, the theocrat's conflict isn't so much with earth as it is "You're human; it's your duty to help us fight for earth; if you refuse you're the enemy." kind of creed?
>>
>>23304963
Well, the water nazis are making a big push but the theocracy certainly has a stake - while they were exiled from earth, or estranged, that's still where all their most ancient historical sites are. And they are human. They don't want to see it flooded.
>>
>>23304967
>>23304963

Well, the water Nazis want Earth because... well... water. And the fall of humanity's native planet would be a big moral blow to human factions. And because their capital planet falling would leave the other Terran planets ripe for the picking. Unfortunately, there are several resource rich planets on the way, so the corporations want in too. And the religious are making their pilgrimage home, but between them and Earth lay a few wars. And Earth isn't about to be pushed around. It's Earth, for fucks sake.

Earth is sort of okay right now because the other four are all beating the shit out of each other to see who gets control of it, and if anyone gets too close then Earth uses what's left of its military to push them back and slam the door shut.
>>
>>23304623
Maybe make them "survivors" in metaphorical sense? As if they are powerful, but disabled servant AI robots created by long extinct civilization? It still could fit with your basic idea - the one who control them will advance greatly and learn sercrets of Old Ones.
>>
>>23305126

So far, a galaxy spanning war involving two human/alien massive corporate conglomerates, one of which is completely mobile and space based, the other being an empire in its own right, as well as some water breathing aliens who run a fascist system and conquer planets by flooding them and killing off all the inhabitants before they move in. Earth and its allies and colonies has had it's ass kicked and is in retreat, and the religious exiles of Earth that moved to a different part of the galaxy have decided that now is the time for them to come home. All of these factions are fighting over one particularly important resource, which has yet to be fleshed out.
>>
>>23305126
Cool stuff.

Maybe these 'Survivors' could be alien refugees of a much more advanced entity or civilization. (Though they are just that, refugees.)

They came to the sector with peaceful intentions, intending to try and secure a place to settle and rebuild, but their advanced technology, resources, and much more extensive starcharts sent all the other races into a tizzy, and they retreated to hiding. Everyone wants them and their delicious tech.

While technically advanced, they are basically all noncombatants, and therefore their best defense is remaining aloof and removed from the conflict.
>>
>>23305228
I like this idea, How about they are also very long lived and bread very rarely this making every loss a blow. This could be an extra reason they have gone into hiding.
>>
>>23305285
Adds potential subplot/threat of whatever they fled from or whatever they were originally a part of. (What happens when whatever they were fleeing from notices where they went?)

Slow reproduction fits with it, though. They could even be attempting to hasten it with technology (cloning or artificial uterus equivalents,) but still be bottle-necked on the fact that they still need to raise their children and that can't all be mechanized.
>>
>>23305197

"Excellent. You know, for generations, we've dreamed about setting foot on our beloved Earth again. And now, we are finally on our way."

"I have given thanks many times, sir."

"As you should. The righteous have come out and been seperated long enough. Earth is just as much our home as it is any human's, but I won't see the World Spirit that birthed us torn until she bleeds for the benefit of some foul company."

"They are already on their way, sir. They've been mobile for some time."

"They've also been decimated by their own blindness, and their blind pride shall be their downfall. They've been at war with one another for longer than we have been on our pilgrimage, brother. Our guns are fresh, our soldiers ready. And what are they, but greed and gluttony made manifest. They shall fall before the righteous."

"And the fish folk?"

"Will never get a drop of Gaia's water as long as we draw breath."

"And what of our kin on Earth who cast us out?"

"They will see the light. One way or the other, they will see...

Do not let these matters trouble you, brother. Go in peace. This shall be resolved soon enough."

"All things connected."

"This we know."

And also a reason why water Nazis would want them - more then anyone else. I hade an idea regarding them.

So, they live in water. That we know. But what if we mix it with their hypothetical problems - like short life span and big fertility? And what if they pollute their living space really, really fast? And I don't mean their technology.

And perhaps the reason why they are so advanced is because their homeworld was visited by those "survivals" in the past, securing it from degrading by enchanting the planet with unknown element - the one everybody is fighting for. Thus, when they started colonization, they encountered inability to hold on one planet for a long period of time - the reason they need to capture more is to hop between them and refresh their water resourses.

Perhaps later. There is a birthday I must attend soon. Feel free to keep the discussion alive.

I may post tomorrow with the same picture to continue once we feel fresher.

I feel they should of been hunted for a while now, they have fled all of there home planets in a giant fleet (think BSG).

The two corps both wanted their tec hence declaring a long and brutal war, the two corps greatly out numbering the "survivors", they were quickly force to flee and have been ever since licking there wounds and trying to boulster their pop by any means possible.
>>
>>23305442
Ahhh yeah that does sound good, I'm not conviced about them loosing their home world, they are the water nazi's after all, big scary and bloody strong

Rolled 1

>>23305471

Well, I will take it upon myself to do it!

First, the nomadic corporation
>>
Rolled 3

>>23305521
Well, 1 won't do, needs a re-roll
>>
Rolled 7

>>23305530
And then the empire one
>>
>>23305442

That would work. They do have a numerical advantage from fast breeding, but the downside is that they use up their water and room so quick they must always conquer more.

If they are defeated in even one planetary conquering attempt, thousands and thousands of them die because of overpopulation on their planets.
>>
>>23305538
ah yes, thats Brilliant! I love that idea.
>>
Rolled 3

>>23305530
And how many of the nomadic races are represented in the empire..
>>
>>23305538
How have they been doing in the war? Fascism helps, but with thousands to millions dying the moment they slow down at all, it seems possible that while extremely powerful, the first time they lose may very well be the last time as they go up like a matchbox in internal fighting/civil war/revolution.
>>
>>23305562
I hope some one is recording this glorious universe and all its members.
>>
>>23305562

So, all of them - all the races in the nomadic corporation have at least a minor representation in the other corporation.

So, the nomadic corporation has 3 races making it up, 1 of which is humans.

The more established and expanded corporation, sensibly enough, has more races which 7, 1 of which is humans.

So a total of 8 main races if we include the fish nazis

(9 if we include the survivors)
sounds like a healthy galaxy to me

Think about the absurdity of fighting a war over a species. It'd be look going to war with Canada because we want to annex their Asians. Wouldn't it make more sense to just declare war on the Asians (the survivors) themselves? Sorry for the racist moment, I was just illustrating a point. What I'm trying to say is fighting other civilizations for possession (literal possession) of a seperate, neutral civilization is just absurd. We should try and come up with a different idea for the "Survivors" and the resource they're fighting over.
>>
>>23305775
so YOU tell me where exactly the survivors are? I bet the OTHER faction knows it, but wont tell us! We will declare holy war on them!
>>
>>23305806
If they knew, they'd have won the war already with the advanced technology. The fact that the war is still going is testament to the failure of logic we've produced here.
>>
>>23305827
Well, they may not know, but they have leads! And if we can get their information and add it to ours we are a step closer.

Do you have no imagination, man?
>>
>>23305775
It's not a war over the species but rather over what they possess, canada has oil, give us that oil bitch. resources=tec
>>
>>23305877
Forcing them to give up their technological monopolies.
>>
So was the origins of the corporations here human or alien? Or a later joint venture
>>
OP could you post that table please? Its 2AM where I am now and I have my doubts that the thread will last till morning.
