Our second thread of the night! I don't know if we'll actually clear the backlog, but we ought to get fairly close.
Old thread while it lasts: >>23400549

++

[x] “Call for a tanker. If we can't get one, we'll land at Iruma and fuel there, that'll take less than fifteen.”

“Call for a tanker, Merlin. Has to be one up with this mess, somewhere. If we can't get one, we can land at Iruma and get turned around in less than fifteen.” you say, eyeballing your falling fuel reserves. You've got maybe two minutes at full burners, then you're dry, man.

Merlin's helmeted head bobs in the back as she nods. “O-ok Frank.” she responds, her voice hesitant.

She comes back a minute later. “Frank, there's no tankers up. The Sara's going to launch a pair of intruders. But that's going to be a few minutes.”

“Well hell.” You respond. “well, fine. You did good, Merlin.”

You turn your fighter into a more easterly heading, making for the nearby Iruma airbase. “Boss, we're going to have to fuel at Iruma. There's no tankers up.”

Ice looks back over her shoulder and nods. “Alright,” she responds. “But hurry. I'd rather let you get in some shots with those AMRAAMs before we go in there.”

1/2
>>
Your air traffic controller at Iruma sounds rushed, but gets you on the ground in a hurry, where a fuel truck is waiting, it's crew nervously looking at the sky while a pair of Type 87 SPAAGs squat nearby.

It takes them a minute to find your fuel ports and another minute to start the pumps, and since you have to leave everything running- a 'hot' refueling- it takes a little longer as your engines burn fuel while you sit, even throttled back to almost nil. Finally, the hoses detach with a noted thunk, and the lead tech flashes you a thumbs up.

“Anytime would be good, frank. The Twins have engaged with their AMRAAMS, the fighters will be on top of us in less than a minute.”

[x] Pour it on, try to get in launch range for the AMRAAMS before those fighters get in a furball.

You run some quick math in your head as you take off. With full fuel and down only two agiles, you're really going to have to pour it on to get a launch window for the AMRAAMs unless you want to use them on the big, easy targets. And the big, easy targets you can handle with guns or the smaller missiles- they can't defend themselves nearly as easily.

“Merlin, you're going to have to do your thing.” You mutter over the intercom, switching your weapons computer to tracking for the AMRAAMS. While you were fortunate enough to be compatible with the Japanese AMRAAM equivalent, it won't fire with the same guidance, which is going to be tricky- you'll have to launch the AMRAAMs, switch to the Japanese missiles, re-acquire, and launch those.

“Boss, did we ever get a fix on the attackers?” You ask as Merlin works her magic- the computers are tracking two targets currently, tasking a pair of AMRAAMs to each.

“Chicoms, for sure.” Ice responds. “Frank, you need to hurry.”

1/2
>>
FUCK YA WITCHES, FOLLOWING ON MY PHONE.
>>
“Yeah, we're en route. In fact... Fox three!” You call, dropping the four AMRAAMs into the air, and watching them blast through the sky, their rockets carrying them away at Mach 4. You've reset your weapons over to the Japanese AMRAAMs less than a second after launch, and Merlin's designated four more targets- again, keeping two missiles per bandit.

“C'mon Merlin...” You whisper as she works with the weapons computer and attempts to lock up the incoming fighters.

Less than a second later, all four targets are locked up, and you launch the eight missiles, countering the sudden loss of weight easily. Four target tracks disappear- it looks like there's a jamming aircraft in there somewhere playing havoc with missiles.

The fighters shift track a bit, followed by the bigger aircraft, but the choppers don't, sweeping in over the coastline behind the aircraft.

You think for a second. The transports have to be loaded with paratroopers, but there's no good drop zones here- the airport is about it, everything else is either urban or covered in trees. The bombers will have to bug out if their fighters are gone, and those helos are probably the least threatening of the lot, easy marks for the type 87 SPAAGs, not to mention any MANPAD weapons the IJA and base force troops in the area have.

You break high, watching the witches go to work. Without any witches of their own- the majority of the Chinese witches were in the south, it seems like, and the only Soviet witch anyone's seen was that Stalina psycho, the fighters are just so much meat to chew through.

Still, the chicoms are infamous for maintaining fighters that other nations have long discarded as too obsolete to be useful- these fighters seem to mostly be the Chinese knock-off Mig-19s, which are a joke to your fighter. You dispatch a pair with contemptuous ease, watching the big bombers start to turn south and jettison their loads well away from any targets- making a run for it, it looks like. The Transports shift their track just slightly and you watch the first parachutes blossom from their massed tactical drop on the airport.

1/2
>>
A second pair of fighters falls- one to an Agile, the other to your guns- and the helos change track, sweeping in under the dogfight, between the buildings. Down there, they're practically immune to BVR fire, and hard to hit, even for you. The only massed body of troops in the city right now is the imperial palace guards, and while they're well equipped, well trained, and superbly motivated, there's just over a reinforced battalion of them, with only a platoon of SPAAGs and no armor.

The helos look to be making a beeline for the imperial palace. Obsolescence aside, you're not sure your squadron will be able to interdict them without the fighters being an issue, but you might be able to break off and do it, or hit those transports before they can drop their second load. You're pretty sure the twins could too, though you don't think they refueled, and they have to be lower on weapons than you are.

[] Stay on the fighters! The Japanese fighters can't be that far out anyway!
[] I really don't like what those choppers are doing, and there's enough of them to have enough troops to overrun the palace guard. Let's get them!
[] Those transports have to go! If they can take the airport, they've got a staging point into the city proper!

[x] Other! (have Ice detach witches to hit the Helos, provide top cover.)

“Ice!” You call out over the radio. “You see those choppers?”

“What ch... oh shit.” Ice says, sounding surprised.

“Yeah, about those. Me and the twins can't get in those buildings as well, it'll take us a lot of passes to do any real damage. You girls are way better suited to go get them!” You say, outlining your plan.

“Frank, we're way low on gas, and just about outta ammo.” Alyssa says over the squadron net. “We can stick around maybe a minute more, then we have to break off. You'll be tackling these fighters on your own.”

You shrug. “They're thirty year old clunkers. I think I can manage.” You respond, underscoring your statement by sending another one spiraling out of control sans it's rear third to slam into a skyscraper. You wince, glad the attack happened in the early morning- the business district is pretty quiet, and you're hoping that's going to keep casualties light.

Ice dispatches another, and nods. “Alright, we're dropping down. You'll have to handle any leakers.”

“Got it boss. Go git 'em.” You respond, suddenly relishing the relative challenge. There's maybe a dozen fighters left, but suddenly, you're the only opponent in the air for them.

Still, it's a hell of a lot easier than your fight with Konstantina earlier. A pair of the Migs goes down to a pair of agiles, leaving you with three, and the Japanese shortrange AAMs.

1/2
>>
Down below, the witches are reaping a fearsome tally from the choppers, though they're proving able to fight back with door guns, machine gun fire sparking off witch shields as bullets punch holes in skyscrapers.

The transport aircraft complete their drop and break off to the south, following behind the long-departed bombers. The fighters doggedly hold on, losing another to a high deflection gunshot before the survivors- nine aircraft out of an initial thirty plus- begin to flee the airspace.

“Ice, it's clear up top, if you need a breather, get above the skyline.” You say, sweeping the airspace once more before taking up an orbit over the palace grounds.

“These guys are breaking off.” She responds, climbing above the skyline, her weapon slung and one arm held limp by her side.

IJNAF F-14s begin arriving in the airspace shortly after- claiming a few of the remaining choppers before the last ones make the relative safety of the airport- already firmly held by PLA paratroopers. MANPAD SAMs reach out for a few adventurous fighters, not hitting any, but making it clear the airspace in that area is hot, at least for now.

The one change to the day is you're redirected to Yokota airbase. The antiship missiles launched at the Saratoga were submarine fired, and her captain responded by replacing your Wyverns with a pair of Vikings- beefing up her antisubmarine capabilities for the time being.

At least your temporary quarters on the base now display the squadron logo outside the door. And you won't have to deal with a briefing room.

night ghost.

hopefully next thread we find out the pros and cons of defending the palace vs the airport
>>
>>23410176
IIRC, we DID have the option of taking the YF-23, but it was a strike fighter, not a dogfighter like the Wyvern.
>>
>>23410219
Get Urobutcher to write it and that shit will sell itself.

>>
>>23410223
Thanks man.
>>23410251
But you posted a pic of two sword-wielding witches.
Granted, Perrine doesn't get to use hers very often, but when she does it is perfectly elegant.
>>23410266
Her weapon, not her arm.

Captcha's got a new OTP it seems.

Still doesn't explain where they pull magazines from. They gotta go through ammo quick as rain. Where do they store it all? They're in the air and sortied for hours. They just downed dozens of choppers and before that a score of Migs.

WHERE DOES THE AMMO FUCKING COME FROM MAN?! FUCKING WHERE?!

Damn, I didn't even think about that. Mostly cause she never uses it in the anime....... ;_;
>>
>>23410302
Well in SWQ, wasn't Robin firing an M1 fully auto or something?

TLDR; Magic
>>
>>23410302
[insert magic I don't give a tits pic here]
Couldn't find it... 2nd picture on google is my little pony. the fuck
>>
>>23410302
Magically enhanced ammo means they only need a small burst to take down something as fragile as a chopper or plane.
>>
>>23410302

General purpose hand accessible stores on strikers?

Some artwork has also depicted gau-8 ammo drums on the small of the back.

They could easily store it there

Her primary weapon is a Springfield.

Springfield with that funky WW1 era bolt replacement semiauto device that actually existed.

Nice game Ghost.

I'm going to want to get that airbase back next time.
>>
>>23410362
It's an airport, not an airbase, which means the paratroopers holed up there are shit out of luck when it comes to supplies.

I know Japan (well, maybe except for their top brass) has a hard-on for the F-14, but I'm assuming they weren't occupied after the Martian invasion. I'd think they'd have some more indigenous fighters at this time than just the F-1.

Maybe they saw how badly their fighters were performing in the 40s during the later years of the war and decided to just mooch off imports from the US while they worked on their own superfighter/F-15/F-22 equivalent? Why bother making the crappy mass-production stuff when we can just buy America's. Good for diplomacy too.

I would kinda love to see where the hell IJAF design doctrine went in the intervening years, though. Especially with the looming cold war. At least they have the Shinden II. Japan might not have the US's half-dozen competing defense contractors all making their own shit.

I'm now just noticing we actually did give Stalin the missile dick.

Unfortunately, we missed the hole and exploded pre-maturely.
