‘’There are plants and flowers growing around her…’’

You remark as you continue to observe the napping Alraune who seem to find comfort in lying prone and sleeping on the ground, while you got used to her green skin fast thank to the very unique set of people around you, you didn’t expect her skin being filled by a huge amount of tiny, needle-like thorns. When you stumbled upon her your poor fingers became victims of your ignorance, but at least you learnt that worrying about a plant girl in the forest isn’t needed, especially during your day off.

Of course, next was the progress of the very unnatural yet surreal plants expanding and growing around her as if she was literally revitalizing the land but, upon stumbling on the only other male wandering around the forest of the large bathhouse, your worries considering this newest unique addition vanished and you started to suspect that you may very well be paranoid, or maybe a little too curious.

‘’Alraune tend to do that, enter some kind of magical trance to help a forest grow prosperous, told her she didn’t need to do that but… well I’m not entirely sure how it works either’’

You and Kyorn found seats near the entrance after his explanation, the winged man seemed strangely tense despite the relaxed atmosphere, although being nervous is hard to blame given that he’s hasn’t been here for more than a day, as a former comrade of Hadraniel you’re quite curious about him, for example what could have been the story behind the two of them fighting during the Church civil war?

Thankfully these two are free of enmity; drama between heroes would be quite dangerous.

Hearing the sound of winds, you let out a small sight as you recall the earlier event in the bath, where you went and confessed to TWO women at the same time with only towels to keep wandering gazes at bay, even though you are in a relationship with a certain queen-mother you don’t feel any regret, but to say you aren’t anxious for the future is a lie. The bath had everything to intoxicate you, sweet smells, warmth, and great company but the reason you managed to stop was because of the angel, she looked… incredibly vulnerable, you decided the escape that magical atmosphere else you would have done something regrettable. Hadraniel didn’t have the time you shared with Mylen in the past which make her hesitations natural and, even now a short distance away from the large inn you feel a constant stream of emotions that are too jumbled and mixed to make any senses.

Here you are worrying about girls on the doorstep of open warfare.

A long sigh later, you decide to distract yourself less your thoughts start going in circle, normally Emeth would already be glued to your side but Athena and Sylphis are still busy with her and whatever your bodyguard is doing is also unknown to you but the fact she’s willing to actually leave you alone is a good sign, trusting the people around her will be vital in the coming days.

Another sigh, which somehow manage to make Kyorn chuckle, however the sounds of crushed leaves behind you reveal a certain fluffy someone who stop her stride when she witness the sleeping Alraune, blooming flowers popping around of her bodies at seemingly random interval.

A weak spicy smell assault your nostril, Tsukiyomi holds a long, ornate pipe from which red smoke escape and of course, always the one forcing her pace, the queen-mother take a certain time to speak.
‘’Kyorn, Siegfried’’

Her usual strong empiric voice, although with a smile.

‘’I would like to ask of our mage to accompany me, unless I am interrupting something of importance, t’would be my shame to chime in the bonding of men’’

What?

You and Kyorn stare at each other in mutual confusions, if anything there’s a big wall in the middle of the distance you’ve got with him.

‘’…I see, then I shall make my demand in this lazy afternoon, mister Shieffer, would you like to accompany this Queen-Mother?’’

Tsu mannerism give absolutely no hint for her intentions, her set of 8 tails form that eternal crown around her silhouette while she support her elbow with her free hand, bringing the pipe to her mouth at irregular intervals and exhaling that magical smoke without sounds.

Yet you can’t help this sense of dread and you find yourself swallowing awkwardly and of course you make the single most obvious conclusion.

She knows what happened in the bath, that’s the only reason she’d want to talk to you alone, yes?
Will you make up some sort of excuses? After all, maybe you were actually having an important talk with the long lost Hero!

Well damn. Yet again, a choice with no way to know which is best. She is making a demand of us and she did acquiesce to ours last night (good thing too, she would have overlimited on the Demon Lord, that would have been bad)...

I'm inclined to go with her though I know I'll regret not getting whatever it was we'd get out of Kyorn if we stayed with him. Then again, this could be a chance for some...Action, as it were. Plus we have yet to find out how she feels about the upcoming wedding, been wanting that bit of info for quite awhile.

No matter, you walk next to Tsukiyomi looking a bit awkward and nervous simply because you don’t feel like erecting your guard around her, and it is in complete silence that the two of you walk deeper in the forest, your eyes wandering to the Tenko sword, unfortunately you reached your destination before you found the opportunity to ask her.

Look like the entrance to a cave, which at first glance doesn’t look special at all, given that this hot spring is right next to the hill leading up to the teleportation stone some kind of hole here and there wouldn’t be unexpected even if it look man made and… well the entrance is as grotto like as it could be and Tsukiyomi certainly didn’t show any hesitations in strutting inside.

And the little wonder of this place showed itself immediately in a cascade of bright blue points shining up above, a series of uncountable small crystals or stalactites shined in the half-darkness absorbing the light of the sun, giving you a strange, almost night like view as you compared the uncountable little blue light to stars and, to the extreme right of the cavern, you identified a large pool of water and reasoned that this was why the inside of this place felt very refreshing.

…So this is where they found that mermaid.

‘’Pretty, isn’t it?’’

Tsu ask, red smoke escaping her lisps as you finally remember why you’ve come.

‘’Say, Siegfried’’

Her tone and demeanor change, only offering you her profile the queen-mother appear slightly discouraged, if not tired, her guard, just like yours, isn’t raised anymore.

You aren’t sure you like where this is going, somehow you feel dread at Tsukiyomi words.

You’d expect any other woman to say this like some kind of accusation of your wrong doing, but the amount of empathy in Tsu voice is amazing; you don’t need more affirmation that she’s really fond of the angel.

A pause, yet again you don’t feel a hint of reproach, if anything the queen-mother actually seems happy.

Tsukiyomi close her eyes as she take in more of her herbs, the spicy smoke exiting her nostrils in one long sigh.

‘’Henceforth, our Hero may be unable to choose between the two and that onus is likely to fall on you, Siegfried, I just… wanted you to know, I don’t know how the future will pan out’’

You hear a brief chuckle coming from Tsu as she turns to interrupt you, another puff of colored smoke escaping her mouth as she talks.

Another chuckle, slowly Tsukiyomi closes the distance between the two of you and places her hand atop your head, which is rather awkward given the height difference.

‘’And of course I wish to keep you from accomplishing this, this love business feels a bit like a tug-of-war’’

You simply let out a disgruntled growl as she continues to rub your head, look like you’ll have to give her victory this time.

Tsukiyomi say, turning and looking into the cavern, appearing suddenly quite solemn and closed as if, somehow, business just popped up.

You can’t shake her when she’s like this and with your head full, you slowly walk outside, and immediately notice something very odd when you decide to peer one last time at Tsukiyomi.

The entrance to the cavern has been completely sealed off by what you can only describe as a fog gate, a thick, almost creamy white phenomenon settled perfectly inside to block any vision…

Wait there’s actually a hole, somehow left there as if inviting you to peek, so you do and see absolutely nothing but darkness and blue stars.

‘’Greeting, Madame’’

Out of nowhere, Tsu speak, sounding tense and reserved, perhaps even a bit fearful.

What the hell is this change in atmosphere? You could eavesdrop, or go on your way, but this hole is this unnatural defense almost beckons you to continue hearing, as is your curiosity, the total lack of magic being yet another oddity

Demon Lord? Daiyu… Her jade never left your person, somehow it’s always in your pocket the moment you feel like stroking its deep black surface, of course Tsu is sounding on edge, perhaps even angry. It’s a shame you can’t see a thing.

‘’Of course, but Tsu? You really need to learn how to rest, at this rate you will overwork yourself…’’

Concern, empathy and motherly love all in a single phrase and tone of voice, somehow your heart quicken slightly just by hearing such incredible, otherworldly warmth.

A pause, Tsukiyomi guard seems to have lessened.

A pause, a long one, as you become more and more convinced you don’t like where this is going. The woman, Madame, always spoke with warmth and love that you remember in your mother when she would gently speak to you as a child.

‘’Madame, I know perfectly well the advantage of my position, the preparation for the war are nothing short of perfect, which is why I fear Daiyu existence.’’

Tsukiyomi isn’t hiding the tense worry in her voice.

You force yourself to calm down as you concentrate on the discussion again.

‘’I think… our ray of sunlight has finally pierced the clouds, don’t waste it, Tsukiyomi.’’

Tsukiyomi-no-Mikoto exited the cavern without a second glance and completely missed your terrible hiding spot, immediately heading into the forest, her face a mask of resolution, gone was the pipe but the spicy aroma still lingered around her and, after a few minutes as you tried to make senses of your jumbled thoughts, you looked back into the cavern, wondering…

Its ‘’her’’, a gentle, motherly tone as if she was reprimanding a child for a little gaffe, a voice you swear you’ve heard before and, in the most unnatural way possible the light of the sun shine on her as it timidly enter the cavern.

You almost called her mother.

Everything, even our rage, was all according to her plans and expectations, thus we were in no real danger of getting her to lose it. Now perhaps if we had attempted to kill her off from the get go or brought Tsu with us things might have been different. But we didn't, so things went relatively smoothly.
