In the grim darkness of 1987 you are Joe, a young man who pissed off the wrong gang. With the help of your allies Saul (a wannabe-knight wielding a pipe as a longsword) and Tatsuya (a bloodthirsty martial artist) you've been launching a counterattack on your pursuers. Your leads have pointed you to The Lost City of Atlantis, some sort of awful nightclub/skate park/arcade mashup in the heart of downtown.

You've been walking towards it for what feels like a week now.

"Lawful good, obviously," Saul says to Tatsuya. They've been trailing behind you and talking about Dungeons and Dragons for awhile now. After comparing characters, favorite villains and so on they've hit the inevitable point of figuring out how to stat your current party.

"Really? What's lawful about beating on guys with a pipe?" Tatsuya asks. "You're neutral good at best."

"Fine," Saul says. "How about you, Joe? What class do you figure you are?"

Sorry for the missing week, gents, my schedule at work got juggled around and "I have a quest thread to run" apparently isn't a valid reason to call off. To punish myself for the missing time I just put on the 90s Double Dragon movie on Netflix.

"I...don't know?" you say. "I don't really play Dungeons and Dragons. Which one's the cool guy who gets the girls?"

"Bard. You are not bard," Saul says.

"You were telling us about your uncle earlier, right?" Tatsuya asks. "Spent a lot of time out in the woods?"

"Yeah, I guess. He taught me to fight out there."

"Ranger," Saul says.

"So we've got a paladin, a monk and a ranger. I've heard of worse party setups," Tatsuya says.

"Aren't those all just different kinds of fighters?" you ask.

Saul and Tatsuya begin laughing uproariously. This is what you get for just asking the first two people who don't beat you up to help out.

"I think that's it up ahead," you say, motioning to the others to quiet down. You've never been to this club, but the pulsing blue lights and the distant hum of bad music are a clue. A line stretches out from the door almost down an entire block.

"Actually, you guys hungry?" you ask.

"Come to think of it, yeah," Tatsuya says.

"I was just going to eat after we finished fighting the gangs," Saul says.

"Yeah, but when we get here we're gonna have to beat up some guys, then we have to go find another guy and beat up his people, then we probably have to fight a bear or an evil circus or whatever. I'm just saying, I'm already hungry and I don't think we'll get another chance to eat for awhile."

"Fine, fine," Saul says in his thick germanic accent. "What do you want to eat?"

"You're the one who's always out doing vigilante stuff. What's open?" Tatsuya asks.

"Pizza place a block over," Saul says. "Food's lousy but it's open til three."

"Sounds good. I could kinda use a chance to unwind," you say.

>Pizza Blackguard it is

A bell rings as you open the door of the pizza place. It's a comforting noise. A comforting place - dily lit, the aroma of fresh-baked pizza filling your nostrils, Springsteen playing on an old jukebox, punctuated by the occasional noise of an arcade game in the back. Two older gentlemen, one bald, one merely balding, stand behind the counter.

Oh, and about a dozen punks are sitting down eating pizza. They pushed some tables together to form one long one. Luckily they don't seem to have noticed you.

"Hey, Saul!" the bald one says in a German accent.

"Hey Willie," he says. The two begin rattling something off in German that you can't understand.

"You wanna try to eat and get out or do you wanna start something now?" Tatsuya leans over and asks.

"They might not be after us. They might just be...you know. Youths."

"One of them made armor out of cardboard and is holding a rusty sawblade like a sword. I think this goes beyond high-spirited hijinks," he says.

>Start a brawl.
>Try to leave quietly.
>Don't draw attention to yourselves. Get a box of pizza to go.
>>
>>23525086

"Let's try to order and go," you say. Tatsuya nods.

"One minute, boys, let me take that table their drinks," the merely-balding man of the duo says. He gives you a forced smile as he lifts a tray of soft drinks.

"Bad news," Saul says. The other German has come out from behind the counter and begun cleaning. "Willi says the gang here is on its way to the nightclub."

"So maybe we can fight them outside," Tatsuya says. "Take them out now, keep us from getting swarmed later." Out of the corner of your eye you see the owner distributing the sodas to everyone, smiling and laughing. The Cardboard Knight sits stoically, not attempting to eat or drink. Something about him just spells trouble.

"It gets worse. Nightclub is closed tonight to anyone who isn't part of Psycho Cogs. It's a trap."

"That's...huh. I did let that DJ go without tying him up or anything," you say. "Goddamnit."

"Well, you're new at this," Tatsuya says. "In any case, we're going to need an alternate plan."

"To get out from under that price on your head?" the owner says as he returns. "They're going to mob you until you fall. Of course, some people will turn on each other to make sure they're the only ones who get the reward..."

The punks at the table begin passing out one by one, face-first into their food. All but the cardboard knight, who stands without a word and draws his blade. You hear the distinct click of a door locking behind you. The bald German is pulling out a set of nunchucks.

The owner pulls out a pair of pizza cutters.
"But if you think you have another way to escape me, I'm listening.

"Flip a table!" you shout.

You grab one of the small ones meant for two people and hurl it at the German. He ducks, letting the table sail over his head and smash the window behind him, just as planned. It leaves jagged pieces of glass around the windowframe. You're going to need to buy time to clear those out if you don't want to cut the shit out of yourself when you go through.

Tatsuya hefts a nearby table over his head and throws it at the cardboard knight, slamming him against the wall. Probably ruined his neatly folded armor.

Saul slams the table nearest him with his pipe, launching it like a projectile at the owner. The owner slips the projectile and glides forward in a single smooth motion. You think you catch hints of Crane Style in what he's doing, but what do you know, you trained sambo.

You're less familiar with unarmed combat, but not entirely amateur at it. You're also younger, stronger and faster than Lars.

The nunchuck strikes your shoulder as you tackle Lars through what remains of the window, causing something to pop and hurt like hell. You try pushing yourself up with it as the two of you roll in the street only to collapse to the ground in pain.

"Risky, but smart," Lars mutters as he comes to his feet. Blood is dripping down his side - some of the glass still in the windowpane stuck him in the side. That's just straight up gross. "Get back to your weapon, try to negate my advantage."

You push yourself up with your good arm, searching for where your pipe wound up in the street, praying to a god you're no longer sure is listening as Lars raises the nunchucks.

In the old days of the original SFQ things were running every weekday, so there wasn't much need to alert people. Creating a twitter page for it felt sorta self-indulgent. (I'm not saying it's bad when quests do that, but it made the most sense for quests that didn't have a regular schedule.) Might not be a bad idea for SOF though.

I feel like I should be creating supplemental materials or something for the post-quest while I'm around, but the universe of this thread isn't so different from ours that it needs much filling out or anything and the system is basically "roll above or below ten, size of dice is modified by circumstances." Joe can use sambo against single opponents so he gets a boost, Saul is disarmed and is weakened, et cetera.
