(3 Fate Points)

House: Ravenclaw

Millicent is Anti-Social. This is the system-specific trait, not the popular definition of anti-social. She is not socially awkward, shy, or lonely; she actively hates people. But she is not a sociopath (she does feel emotions, and she does understand social expectations and rules, and does follow them, and is not manipulative; she just hates people).
However, being thrust into an environment where she MUST interact with people, no longer having the safe haven of her own room or of Dad and Mum, and with the threat of being disowned, has forced Millicent to begin accepting more people.

This does not mean that Millicent is lonely and wants friends for the sake of companionship or for the sake of friendship; she still feels hatred for people outside of the very small circle of family, familiar, doll, and acquaintance(s).
And that hatred will only subside with time, or her being forced to get to know the person better and becoming acclimated to them.
Her hatred isn't an uncontrolled thing either, unlike her fear of bodies of water or nausea regarding seafood; she can push down that hatred enough to work with people. People can do things they hate, and be unhappy with it but do it all the same.

tl;dr
People have to work hard to be liked or even tolerated by Millicent; Average Joe's can go take a hike, Real Relationships Only.

Traits:
Near-Death
>A fear of large bodies of water and being unable to stomach foods with obvious fish.
Hexer
>Natural aptitude to hexes, but not trusted by others because of it.
Supernatural Luck: Able to refresh a Fate Point on an 8, 9, & 10 on a d10.

(forget about the Nigel/Joel thing it was decided last thread and I forgot.)

Olivia smiles as she sets down two plates of full english breakfast.

"You're going to need your strength" she says, grabbing her knife and fork with the wrong hands and tucking in. She takes a bite of her sausage and talks with her mouthful.

"We're going to have to think up an alibi for you" she says.

>Yeah. (make-up alibi with her)

last thread had an idea that we went after something that had taken Elise from us and ran towards the dangerous forest.

>was originally Tara i think but there is no sense in her doing that.
>>
>>23527253

We were weary and emotionally drained after everything that's been happened and therefore fainted. Fainting is the proper and lady-like thing to do in periods of high stress, and we are a pure blood.

>>23527291
Someone is framing the contestants of Nathaniel's contest, and whoever it was tried to trick us into thinking he was the Headmaster in a dream sequence. But we figured it out and told the real Headmaster about it.

Or, the Headmaster we think is the real one is a fake, and the one we met in the hospital ward is the real one, and we just ended up spilling the beans to the BBEG of the year.

>>23527305
We need to get better at dueling and learning about Muggle fighting tactics so we can start up that dueling club and start exercising.

You are Olivia both work together to construct the perfect alibi; you were walking around the outer grounds with Tara and Elise when Tara suddenly took Elise and ran off into the Forbidden Forest. You chased after her and got Elise back but by the time you had done this you were completely lost and didn't know your way back.

You spend the entire day trying to get back to Hogwarts where you found Olivia waiting for you outside the Ravenclaw dorm. She helped you with the riddle and then called the Headmaster to let him know what had happened.

More info about the Trident would indeed be good, but it's not info that is currently applicable until such a situation where we can actually get a hold of it. On the other hand, it's obvious some dark wizard is trying to prevent us from even reaching that stage, it should be our current priority to be able to defend ourselves against this.

Basically this, it was getting to the point where we couldn't make any kind of social decision without causing some kind of argument about character derailment. The description is there to get people to shut up.

She's far from a sue, she fails all the damn time by the grace of the dice gods after all
>>
>>23527602
mary -sue? Is this a self insert? are characters liking the PC instantly? If anything Antisocial is a device to keep people from playing anything but a very remotely likeable person, and one that has violent outbursts and a cruel streak a mile wide.

That is a far cry from mary sue. That is into psychologically disturbed territory, and one step away from serial killer or mass murderer.
>>
>>23527602
>The whole description of anti-social seems really fucking Mary Sue
Again, why?
Anti-Social means that there are mechanical negative modifiers to interactions with people, and is used to describe a misanthropic personality.
Second, why the fuck does being in Ravenclaw make her a Mary Sue? It's an academic-focused House, and the character has a slightly above-average Intelligence score, so why not? What about the House makes it a Mary Sue choice?

>People have every right to call bullshit on this stuff.

This whole thing is argument for arguments sake.

If it is a sue or not is irrelevant since we are playing it not writing it and we can play it as we damn well want to, via popular vote, regardless of what that makes the character.
>>
You fail to find anything useful or even interesting in your pursuit of knowledge, if fact one book even got hold of Olivia' hair and started chewing on it, leaving a clump of tangled hair on the library floor.

Having failed miserably the bell rings for DADA where you both shuffle off to class. Olivier is already waiting for you at the beginning off the lesson adorned in a long black and red cloak with a renaissence mask covering his face.

Behind him several students are simularily dressed in cloaks and masks, a human sized puppet sits slumped between them.

"Welcome class" says Olivier "for those wandering what is about to happen, you are to be treated to a special preview of "Zeneba! The King of the Sea who faught the Kraken and saved Atlantis!"

Roll 1d100 for wizard Lore. 45 or less wins.

Proposal

Status: Pending DM Approval

Proposal is as follows: For the quest "Millicent Fauxly and the Trident of Rowena Ravenclaw", the dice roll used to determine the success or failure of an action will be the /second/ one after the initial post instead of the first one.

Submitted for Approval: 3/5/2013, 2:20 PM PST
>>
>>23527741
I've checked what you wrote and you've given no definition of a Mary Sue.
Not only that, but we only score an 18 on our Intelligence score, with a 15 being absolute average, on a scale of 5 to 35. Millicent is NOT smarter than most others.
Also, how is being a misanthrope a Mary Sue? Simply being anti-social and above average by a few points makes a Mary Sue?

I am mad because you contribute to the usage of the term Mary Sue to any character that you dislike and to its reduction to a useless term.
You can't even define the term.

Shit I don't even know why you brought it back up, I was about to just leave. Not my fault you can't read and feel the bizarre need to defend this chick.
>>
>>23527818

>Mary Sue
>It's a perfect self insert
I don't think you understand what those mean. Mary Sues are characters with traits, but without flaws or handicaps. Self-inserts are characters placed into a story for the sole reason of being an author avatar.

A trait is something that defines the character. (Intelligence)
A flaw is something that impedes the character. (Anti-Social)
A handicap is a flaw imposed upon the character. (Asshole Parents)

How to determine a sue is simple. Do the flaws and handicaps actually hurt the character in any way? Or are they just on the character sheet to sound cool? It's been demonstrated repeatedly that Millicent isn't great at interacting with people, even when it would be in her best interests. That's a flaw. Having to deal with her parent's rejection of her house has been shown to affect her emotionally and physically. That's a handicap. Her defining trait is her intelligence which she uses to cope with these problems.

TLDR: Not a sue.

Also it's technically impossible for Millicent to be a self-insert character because she is not under the authors complete control.

Unless you made another post with a different definition, I'm not seeing it.

Again, being a girl with magic powers is normal for this setting, nothing strange or wish-fulfillment about it.
Being smarter than the absolute median by a couple points is within the standard deviation, and isn't anything outrageously special, and is just a part of the character.
We don't have NPC's fawning over us even though we're a misanthrope, and the one person we have become a friend with, became a friend because she actively worked to be one, and because we actually share a common background.

As for being a self-insert, a self-insert is a proxie or avatar for the author. Since this is a PnP game with us as the players and Millicent as the character, how can the character be a self-insert when the choices made are not under the control of the GM, and are arrived at by majority consensus of the players? It can't, because a self-insert requires full control, and consensus control makes that impossible.

Millicent has flaws, which give her tangible handicaps, which she has to overcome during the course of the game, allowing for character growth.
A Mary Sue lacks both handicaps and character growth.

You know that you've been told the story once in your childhood but can't remember where. Olivia gives you a nudge as she points to the puppet.

"We could use that" she says, in a low whisper.

An elaborate dance ensues as the puppet is enchanted to dance and waltz with the students as the story of the Kraken is told through interpretive dance.

When the performance comes to an end the whole class sits in stunned silence, it was horrible, simply horrible to watch. Half the lesson passed by for this performance.

Roll 1d100 for DADA lesson. 75 or less wins.

Professor Olivier didn't seem to have prepared much for the class to do after the performance, he makes you go over what you learned last lesson in regards to casting protective wards such as the Protego spell. You successfully cast the spell and defend from other student's attack as you change combatant every couple of tries.

As the class nears an end Olivia tugs our robe and pulls you away to the corner of the classroom.

Or we can steal it after the play is finished.
There's no reason to have to subject ourselves to more work that will take away from our studies.

Ask Olivia if she actually wants to join the production with us because she thinks she thinks she would enjoy it, or if it's just for the puppet.

Something that has always confused me is how many students there are at Hogwarts at the same time. My high school had roughly 1000 students spread over grades 8-12 and multiple teachers per subject. So I guess as long as we still have this thread we can turn it into a bit of discussion, perhaps?

Personally, I'm predicting that Millie's family has something to do with the big bad either directly or indirectly(those aunts/cousins are prime suspects atm, but I'm not really ruling out daddy yet since he's kind of Millie and Maud's "personal" big bad and other reasons I'll explain below). They're an old pure blood family that has ALWAYS been Slytherin and it was revealed that the Trident was originally lost after being stolen by Salazar himself(if I'm remembering correctly) so it's a possible connection since the artifiact would hold great significance to the Slytherin house as well Ravenclaw.

I'm currently suspecting the dad a bit in the thing that happened to Millie as it could get his reputation back by having her claim the Trident after changing houses failed. It would explain why Nigel completely got the boot and Slytherin was victimized while Millie gets privileged info and help instead.
>>
>>23529216
I'm fairly sure the whole quest is just a dream one of the house elves is having.

And I missed it ;_;

I am compelled to share this with my HPQ bros.If you want to further increase your HP experience;I waited a very long time for this site to open, then after I took my account I could not dare to get in. I presumed there would be pseudo classes and exams that you would have to study for passing classes. If there is a choice between pseudo-Hogwarts and any university I would pick Hogwarts in a heartbeat and my IRL education would come to an end. This quest compelled me to check it again and it is awesome and not as I expected. It turns out you don't read magic books.

I lack a sufficiently ample vocabulary to describe the sheer depths of idiocy you just sunk to. Words fail me, but I must still try to convey my thoughts. There's hitting rock bottom levels of stupidity, and then there's you. You are a perfect example of everything that is wrong with a fandom. Hell, probably everything wrong with "nerd-dom", for lack of a better term, in the first place.

So please, by all means, do find a group dedicated to pretending to learn something that doesn't even exist and abandon all other education. Abandon anything else. I'm not gonna tell you to kill yourself, but you should probably never be around anyone ever again, unless they're on the same level of mind-boggling imbecility as you.

I'd imagine that castle would be well and truly lit after the fight.

Thanks for the compliment! I've never really shown my stuff to strange people online before, so I'm feeling as exposed as a sacrificial maiden chained to a rock. Or, well, not really, but it tied in with your story-idea. Every knight needs a damsel-in-distress.
