No real news, guys. Follow-up went well- roughly translated that means my odds of suddenly keeling over dead are only slightly elevated from yer average neckbeard's. awesome!

Character sheet and short plot synopsis here: http://pastebin.com/zFxWNup1

“You know, it occurs to me that you could have Goose heal this and we wouldn't be sitting here” You observe to Ice, unwrapping the bandage from around her upper arm.

She half-shrugs, careful to keep her arm still. “She's been helping out over at the base hospital. This isn't that big a deal, and there's people who need a heal witch a lot more than I do.”

The two of you are sitting in the living room of your temporary squadron housing, the TV turned to local programming- which neither of you understand at all- while you change out her bandage from the fight in and over Tokyo yesterday. A massive winter storm moved in overnight, practically grounding all aircraft in the region and causing the lines in the mud to stall out in the whiteout conditions. The downtime has you on edge, but it's given your ground crew- recently arrived on the base- time to go over your aircraft completely, replacing components that were starting to show major wear, and giving the tech representative from Chance-Vought a whole list of suggested improvements from their end. That's still on your to-do list as well- the company has requested pilot feedback, now that you've driven it into combat.

“Yeah, but still, it's not like it'd take her very long.” You say, gingerly peeling back the bottom layer of gauze over the furrow across Ice's arm.

She got it in the closing actions over Tokyo- those last few frantic minutes of witches tangling with air assault choppers around the skyscrapers. Lucky shot, she claimed- the door gunner was firing from behind her while she attacked a different helo. Rosalie had torched the one that hit Ice, and by then it was over- the last few survivors breaking off for the airport after you swept their fighter cover from the sky. She's been wearing a simple combat dressing over it, refusing to 'bother' Goose with it while the base's hospital- and most of the civilian ones in the area- dealt with the other wounded.

She hisses while you dab an antiseptic on the injury. It's probably going to leave a scar, but it's fairly shallow- through the skin, for sure, but only just. “She's helping other people. Besides, you're a pretty good medic.” She says.

You shrug, looking at the injury with a practiced eye before placing a layer of clean gauze over it and re-wrapping it. “Me and my brothers and sister weren't exactly the calmest or most well behaved kids around. We got dinged up occasionally, it paid to know how to handle it without mom finding out.” You pin the olive drab cloth bandage in place and sit back. “There. You ougghta get it looked at by Goose, even if just so it doesn't scar over. It won't be that noticeable if it does, but... “ You trail off.

She looks at you quizzically. “But what, Bishop?”

“But get it looked at anyway, alright boss?” You say, gathering up the things from your aid bag. “I'd hate to see it scar over.”

Ice shoots a look over at you. “You seem awful concerned with that, Bishop. Any reason why?”

You shrug with practiced nonchalance. “Not any particular one, I guess.” You're not sure if you're telling the truth or not as you say it.

She looks at you a second more. “I... Yeah, ok. If I'm not too busy and Goose has the time, I'll have her look at it. Good enough for you?”

You nod. “It'll have to do, won't it?” You say, leaning back and grabbing your book off the floor.

You manage to read about a paragraph before Ice interrupts you again.

“So, Bishop. You have a new admirer?” She says, mirth evident in her voice.

[x]Devolve into nervous laughter, and end with a whispered "HIDE ME."

You start nervously laughing, pulling your book back up long enough to read another sentence.

Right as you hear Ice take another breath to repeat her question, you close the book and wisper a frantic, strained “Hide me.”

Ice laughs at that. “I don't think there's much to worry about, Bishop. Flight data reconstruction of your fight with her... well, it's gone up past me, now. If Merlin hadn't stored a copy, we'd have never been able to see it when those ONI spooks got it.”

You heave a sigh of mock relief. You're not actually worried that she'd come kidnap you in the night- well, for the most part, though the thought has occurred to you.

“I'm more worried she's going to get to you.” Ice continues. “She seems... fairly impressed by the fight over the Bering, and right or wrong, a lot of people aren't happy with what happened, and a lot of them want to blame someone. And you're the most visible figure that was there.”

“So you don't think it was my fault?” You ask.

She shakes her head. “No, and you don't need to be questioning it right now. Look, if you need to talk, we're here for you. But I need you to keep your head on straight, or I'll have to pull you and Merlin from flight. And if I have to do that, there's no way I can keep them from sending her back to an Academy.”

[] “Woah, wait, what? Academy?”

She nods. “Good. I can't afford to lose anyone.” She says, turning to watch the TV again. It's kind of a shame you don't speak the language, the show looks interesting enough. Something about giant robots and space, you don't know. Animated, though- isn't that stuff for kids? Well, different cultures, you suppose.

“What's this about the academy?” You ask. “I thought we killed that a while ago.”

Ice shrugs. “Merlin's talent is growing faster than anyone expected. No one seems to know what's going on, and it's made worse because she's a new talent and...”

She trails off and shrugs again. “Look, I'm not going to bore you with a lot of theory, Bishop. She wanted to see you anyway, and as long as the pair of you are still flying and Nixon still has the president's ear, you two can stay a team as long as you want to. [x] “How about you bore me with the theory.”

“I hate paperwork and Merlin can wait a few minutes. How about you bore me with that theory stuff?” You say, leaning back in the couch.

Ice sighs. “You sure? A lot of this isn't even really properly understood, and....” She pauses. “And some of it isn't always taken so well when people learn about it.”

You cross your arms. “Boss, I like to pretend I'm relatively stable. What's going on with Merlin?”

Ice turns off the TV and sighs again. “Alright, look. First thing is you don't let anybody know I told you this, alright?”

You nod.

She shakes her head. “No, Bishop. I need you to tell me that you won't let anyone know you know this. Hell, I'm not even supposed to know- I got lucky and had a friend of a friend in the right place.”

“Alright boss, I won't tell anyone.” You say, nodding again. “It's between us.”

She puffs out a breath. “The current theory on Merlin is that she's growing as fast as she is because of you. Well, you and the jet. They think you're... They think that you've got a male talent. There's a small group of people who want you sent home to confirm that. They also think that Merlin's talent is directly related to your jet- the more combat you two are in, the better you get as a team, the more powerful she becomes.”

“So this is like some final fantasy shit? Experience or something like that?” You say, frowning.

1/2
>>
Ice shakes her head again. “No, no. they think that somehow, Merlin’s made stronger both by the jet, and by how you can operate it. Machine empathy or something along those lines. Basically, you can operate the jet past what it was ever designed to do, and keep it operating there long after it should have stopped. Merlin, somehow, gets stronger because of it.”

She sighs. “Look, it's just a theory, at best, but right now it's one of the two that makes the most sense. The only other explanation is that as the machine she works with gets more advanced, Merlin gets better at what she does. Or maybe it's the more she works with a specific machine- no one knows. But you have to keep this to yourself, ok?”

You nod. “You got it, boss. You keep me and her flying, and we'll keep doing whatever it is we're apparently doing.”

She turns back on the TV. “I'll try to keep you up to speed on what's going on, if that means anything to you.”

“Yeah,” You say, standing up. “It does mean something. Thanks boss, I owe you.”

She looks up at you. “I'll hold you to that.”

[x] Let's go see what Merlin wanted to talk about.

You drop your book off in 'your' room- currently shared by Maverick and Goose, both of whom are out at the base hospital, currently. You also grab your jacket- YOUR jacket, since Merlin's finally taking to wearing the one you got her, though she does complain sometimes it's not broken in as well yet. Still, you know for a fact it's warmer- the lining in this one is about gone, and you're going to have a bitch of a time getting it replaced when you get around to it.

Your scarf from Georgette around your neck, you head off to the Hangar. Inside, your ground crew- newly flown in from Alaska- have your jet opened up, one engine hanging from an overhead gantry crane as they go through it with a trio of techs from GE. Another crew is doing the same with the twin's jet, with your squadron's few striker techs slowly going over the girl's tomcats and the spare hornets.

An external power cart sits next to your bird, powering the avionics as Merlin works in the back seat, her jacket hanging over the edge of the cockpit. With the doors closed, the Hangar is actually relatively warm- a nice change from the bitter cold outside. The storm apparently has everyone hunkered down and waiting for round two- you certainly don't envy the transport pilots that have to fly in this shit, let alone the guys at sea.

You walk up the ladder the crew rolled up to your jet, leaning over the edge of the cockpit and right next to Merlin.

“Hi Frank!” she says, quickly hiding a Hershey's bar in the pocket of her flight suit. “Did Ice tell you why I wanted to see you?”

[x] “Nope. What's up kiddo?”

“Nope. What's up Merlin?” You say, slowly reaching across her to grab her coat- and the candy no doubt contained within.

She snatches it down and wedges it on the far side of the cockpit wall from you.

“So I was playing with the sensor data from... from yesterday.” She says, hesitating a bit. “I think I figured out why she was able to jam the sensors so well, and get into our communications network so easily.”

You shrug. “She's a signals witch?”

Merlin looks up at you and nods. “Yeah, but Frank, she's a lot stronger than any of the rest of them. Katya was down here helping me earlier, and she couldn't even jam one sensor, let alone our whole suite. And forget the radios, she couldn't get into those at all, even when I told her the frequency range.”

“Well, that's helpful, but how do we beat her?” You ask, looking at the data shown on Merlin’s main multifunction display. It makes almost no sense to you, but you're also well aware she's been using her own magic- as is evidenced by the wings on her head- to play with the system through the witch suite.

>>
Merlin frowns. “I-I think I have an idea, but I don't know if it will work. We'll need to fight her again before I know.” She looks back over at the screen, re-playing a segment of the sensor data. “See, this is when we first ran into her. Most jamming you can kind of see, even when it's there- it's a hole in the radar picture. We normally don't worry about that anymore, because we've got the other stuff. But, see, look at what she does. She doesn't just make a cloud of radar noise or anything- she can hide like she's not even there.”

“A stealth witch?” You ask, confused.

Merlin nods again, focusing on the display. “I think so. I... I don't really know, and I need to ask Ice for help, since she... she actually finished the academy. But I think we can beat it.”

She looks back up at you. “I'm really sorry I couldn't beat her last time Frank. It won't happen again, I Promise.”

[x] “You did fine, Merlin. Don't worry about this one, ok? Let's go find Katya and get some food.”

You shrug, then reach down and ruffle her hair. “Fraaaaaaank!” she protests, clapping both her hands over her head and dropping her magic.

You chuckle. “You did fine, Merlin. Don't worry about this one, ok? Let's go find Katya and get some food.”

“Well, I don't know....” she says, looking back at the MFD. “I should probably work on this a bit more.”

Her stomach takes that second to emit a series of gurgling squeals. She looks back up at you as you laugh. “Ok, I guess I am pretty hungry.” She admits, grabbing her jacket.

You help her out of the cockpit and the two of you head back to the house- a good bit of a walk. About halfway there, you glance down at your RIO. “Hey, Merlin, I thought they canceled flight ops today?”

She looks up at you. “They did, that's why.... we're..... wait, Frank, no! Nonononononono!” She responds, a look of sudden realization dawning on her face.

“HAHA! TIME FOR AIRPLANE RIDES!” you yell, snatching her up and sprinting through the snow towards the house. A few of the base force troops give you weird looks, and the commander of a type 87, posted nearby, just stares as you run by, making whoosh noises the whole way.

The house is a bit farther away than you remember, and the snow doesn't help at all, but you're in good enough shape, and the cold air helps a bit. You stop short of the house, depositing your RIO on her feet and walking in the front door to the smell of cooking.

You make a face. Sauerkraut? Not your favorite thing ever.

In the kitchen, Katya and goose have a huge steel pot on the stovetop, and the two of them are chatting amicably while cutting up what looks like sausage, carrots, and potatoes.

[x] Eh, could be good.

You figure, hey, it could be good. Besides, your granddad used to cook something remarkably similar, though he added garlic salt and onions. And more...

Your train of thought is interrupted as Maverick brings in a five pound bag of potatoes.

Ok, he didn't use more potatoes.

“Hello Frank and Merlin!” Katya says, noticing the two of you. “Frank, can you help peel potatoes? Dinner will be ready sooner if you do!”

You grimace- didn't you take a commission so you didn't have to peel potatoes? But you nod anyway, sitting down on a stool and pulling a bucket over for the peelings.

About halfway through, you start humming a song to yourself- one your Grandmother had learned in the war. Supposedly, she learned it from a Soviet witch who'd loved it, sang it constantly. Of course, you learned the English translation, which just doesn't work as well, in your opinion. Plus, you can't sing.

Still, you're only a few seconds in to the song before Katya pauses to look over at you.

“Frank, where did you learn that song?” She asks, blushing a bit as Goose looks at her.

You shrug, continuing to peel potatoes. “Grandma taught us. Learned it from a Soviet witch during the war. Can't remember the name... “ You say.

“Katyusha....” She says, smiling and shaking her head. “I do not suppose your Grandmother taught you the words?”

“English, but I hear the translation leaves a lot to be desired.” You respond.

“Something about a girl named Katyusha, and her silver... eagle... of.... hey, wait.” You continue without thinking much about it.

Then you stop, realizing just how exactly that applies to the current situation.

Katya blushes a bit redder, but doesn't say anything, but now she's humming the song to herself.

“Well, uh... yeah. Potatoes are done! Anything else I need to help with?” You ask, standing up suddenly.

“Well I cou-” Katya is cut off by Alyssa's voice.

“Hey Frank! There's a-” She says, walking into the kitchen. She interrupts herself to look in the pot, where the sausage and vegetables are simmering in the sauerkraut. “ooh, looks good.”

“What does?” Her sister yells from the entry way.

“Sauerkraut and sausage and stuff!” She returns.

“All this wonderful seafood, and they want to eat sauerkraut.” Clarissa grumbles, walking into the kitchen herself.

“Hey Frank! There's some witch back in the hangar that says she knows you. Wouldn't say how though.” She says, finishing her sister's statement. “Said she'd like to see you.”

M11 wasn't adopted by the US Military until around '91. It's '89, if we have a sidearm it's probably old school.

Cue, "You call that a knife? This is a knife!" scene.

End with camera pulling away from hanger for a wide shot with MC going, EHHHHHHHH?!
>>
>>23535128

Speaking of guns, I is a SAA modified to accept speedloaders heresy?
>>
>>23535128
Ahhh, danke.
>>
>>23535176
My immediate reaction is 'yes' but who gives a shit? If it's your gun do it if you want to. I will never be a true /k/omrade. At least I'm not no-guns though.
>>
>>23535176
Yeah. Especially when a squared away 1911 or one of the wonder 9s would shoot circles around it at this point. If you like pistols, read some Jeff Cooper.

If it's a repro I really don't mind. But if it's an original SAA, pic related and you should feel bad.

[] “Sounds like fun! Who wants to come with?”

It's either Jessica or the Ramwitch.

I'm good with either.
>>
>>23535237

Then again, Ice is a gun nut.

She'll be the one who'd really appreciate something like an Single Army Action.
>>
>>23535176
Heresy of the highest degree.
>>
>>23535176
>Loading gate revolver
>Modified to accept speedloaders

You'd need an entirely new frame and it would basically be a different gun.
>>
>>23535268

Perhaps if we ever need to get her a gift.

Then again, isn't iceman's birthday something like 31st dec or something?
>>
>>23535176

>>23535275

Is it wrong that I want to design a holster that will reload your SAA for you? (Possibly while you use a second)
>>
>>23534867

*Blink*

Wait, is Katya short for Katyusha?
>>
>>23535330
custom handgun?
>>
>>23535268
Yeah, but a speed loader accepting SAA would be like gifting a riced out dyno queen civic to a car lover.

A good pistol for a gun lover would be a Colt Python. Even poor examples are exceptionally accurate and have very nice triggers.
>>
>>23535354

DIfferent anon, mate. Modifying the main point of an SAA IS heresy.

Just saying it'll make a good gift.

And a python? Thats a tad big, isn't it?

No. Katya is a diminutive form of "Yekaterina", which Katyusha is simply a different diminutive form of.

Ocelot disapproves.
>>
>>23535340
Kinda. A good model 27 or python seems like a much better idea to me if you want a wheel gun.
>>
>>23535330

Is it?

Considering that christmas just passed, what day is it?
>>
>>23535390
Eh, not terrible if you get a 4". I wouldn't do one in an IWB rig, but a hip rig or a shoulder rig would be plenty nice.

[x] “Sounds like fun! Who wants to come with?”

“Sounds like fun!” You say, grabbing your jacket. “Who wants to come with?”

Katya unties her apron. “Goose, can you do the rest for me? I would like to meet this witch.”

Goose nods. “Sure thing Miss Katya! It'll be ready when you get back. Just don't take too long, it might get cold.”

Katya smiles. “Thank you, Goose. We will not be too long, I am thinking.”

The twins look at each other, then grin. “We'll come too!” Alyssa says.

“Yeah, This should be interesting. You know the funnest people, Frank!” Clarissa notes.

“Yeah, the funnest.” you mutter, making sure your pistol is strapped to it's holster on your leg.

The walk back to the hangar is made worse for your empty stomach- You ate a few hours before seeing to Ice, but that wasn't much, and was a while ago.

Inside a group of witches waits around several vehicles, their striker stands being installed nearby. You recognize a few- Rand's distinctive blonde twin tails and Rudel's diminutive size both dead giveaways.

You're about to greet them when a flying mass smashes you from your feet, sending you lurching sideways with a sudden sharp pain from a shoulder a few inches below your ribs- your good side, thankfully.

Katya's yelp of surprise and the sudden pop of three witches using magic is almost worth it. Almost.

“HIYA FRANK!” Your sister beams from your chest when you finally slide to a halt- a good five feet from where you first got hit.

“Hello, Jessica.” you say, somewhat more subdued than your boisterous sister. Things are about to get interesting, you're afraid. And isn't 'may you live in interesting times' a curse somewhere?
>>
>>23535642

Oh god. It's everyone.
>>
And that's it for the night- we're pretty much caught up with the back log from the missed week and back on the programmed timeline, which is good, right? Right!

anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed the run, and, as always, we'll be back next tuesday.

OH! and for those wondering about maus, he's talking about running... Friday? I think, at around 1500 PST. so there's that too.

Yep. Along with 'May you come to the attention of those in authority.' and 'May you find what you are looking for.'

Doesn't matter as if she's here,. trying to send her back would only be a waste of time compared to actually making sure she's mentored well by the other witches.

For all we know they sent her here to learn from witches with combat experience and rather high note.
>>
>>23536152

That'll imply her entire class is here.
>>
>>23536185
I wouldn't say so... as I think it might be a repeat of what happened with Robin. That and she might have proven a special case.

that's assuming they're not still in the academy. But we're getting away from the point: trying to send her back is a futile guesture.

Hey /tg/. So I heard you liek paperworks. Enjoy.
=====
Frank rubbed the weariness from his eyes with a tired sigh. The past several hours had been… draining, to say the least, and he was eager to collapse on his bed and forget about the world—and the damned war—for just a couple hours. The very thought tantalized him to the core: sleep was so close, yet so far. For although everyone else’s day might be over, his still had a little more to go. Flying an advanced fighter prototype came with unique responsibilities: namely, filing extensive after-action reports for Chance Vought’s engineers. As much as he wanted to, the report couldn’t wait. Pissing off engineers with tardy excuses was never smart, especially when their innovations were helping him fight and stay alive. Working late was the least he could do in return.

And on top of that, Maverick and Goose were still occupied at the military hospital. That meant Frank could concentrate on his work, get ‘er done, and then sleep. Easy as one, two, three. His fingers fumbled with the knob a couple times, still numb from the winter cold. He stepped foot in the dark room and snapped on the lights, cringing at the sudden brightness. Eyes adjusted, he looked towards the desk and locked eyes with the Chance Vought report: PaperMerlin. She sat nervously on the desk, wrapping the thin sheets about her in a loose stack.
>>
>>23536495
"G-good evening, Frank." PaperMerlin muttered coyly, the edge of her clipboard showing underneath her sheets. A cold wind blew through the open door, making her pages rustle uncomfortably. “A-are you coming in?”

Frank stepped fully inside the room and shut the door behind him, stepping purposely towards the desk. His eyes drank in the sight of PaperMerlin, still flustered by the cold. Pages three and seven stuck out unevenly from the stack, tantalizing him with the hint of their content. He sat down in front of her and plucked a ball-point pen from the drawer. PaperMerlin caught herself staring as Frank spun his pen absentmindedly in his hand.

Even though she already lay bare before him, PaperMerlin couldn’t help but blush as Frank turned over the cover, his hand resting on her innermost pages. She tensed nervously as Frank slowly lowered his pen. No one had ever written on her before: the thought of being marked by Frank frightened and excited her. PaperMerlin closed her eyes and trembled, waiting for the inevitable. She gasped when she felt the cold touch of Frank’s ball-point pen on her fibrous surface, and couldn’t help but emit a squeal as it traced out the name of the man who would write on her for the first time in her life.
>>
>>23536510
“N-not f-fair, Frank. I-I wasn’t ready.” PaperMerlin moaned as Frank continued his ministration with his pen. It glided smoothly over her skin, leaving tell-tale traces in its wake. She yelped slightly as Frank dog-eared page two for later review.

The pen continued to work its magic, sending PaperMerlin into heady ecstasy. She could barely register Frank’s loving whispers as he mouthed the words he wrote on her skin.

"... hard-points compatible with Japanese armament was extremely beneficial in this engagement." Frank muttered. He stopped, raising his pen to his lips as he considered his next words.

PaperMerlin waited in tantalized silence, four of her pages thoroughly disheveled. Frank couldn’t stop now—not when he was getting to the core of the report! She moaned loudly as Frank suddenly began his scrawling once more.

“… developing a universal guidance system or installing a bank of multiple systems on the Wyvern is highly recommended, especially for future coalition missions.” Frank finished, punctuating the sentence with a forceful jab of the pen. PaperMerlin couldn’t help but gasp at the sudden jolt.
>>
>>23536539
Through her haze of ecstasy, she was vaguely aware of Frank turning to page six. She gulped: the next couple pages were check-lists. She bristled as she waited for the inevitable series of hard strokes, unsure of whether she could handle such a sensation.

The first check dug hard into her skin, making her gasp obscenely in a masochistic mix of pleasure and pain. "F-Frank... be more gentle. Please?"

But Frank’s pen was merciless, digging hard into her with every stroke, making her squirm continuously in desperate pleasure. PaperMerlin increasingly found herself wanting more as her pristine sheets were crumpled, bent, and stained by Frank’s pen. She was left panting loudly as Frank hovered over her last page. This was it—the last remainder of her old self, unclaimed by anyone.

“Do it, Frank. Make me yours!” She moaned hotly.

She writhed as Frank’s pen finished its work, the sensation of being caught between the pen and the clipboard too much for her virgin stack to handle. She careened over the edge as Frank’s pen fierily traced out the man’s signature on the bottom of her page and dated her. She was done: fully marked at last.

PaperMerlin and Frank both drifted off to a pleasant slumber.
