It took years of scheming, double dealing and the occasional murder. You've seen blood on the pavement more times than you can count, ordered more men dead than you can remember on the rare nights you grow a conscience, caused more suffering to this city than a thousand men on the street combined.

You are the boss. Metro City is yours.

Was yours, at least. The phone in your penthouse has been ringing off the hook all night. First some young punk roughs up your sister's kid while he's trying to pull a holdup. No big deal, you put a hit out on him for a grand. Next thing he's joined forces with other weirdos, started taking down important businesses. You haven't been able to get back to sleep without another phone call coming to tell you he's hit something else.

You give up on sleep and head to your closet to put on your finest suit. You have a feeling it's going to be that kind of night.

You spent some time confusing people with your sexual identity. Sometimes you're not even completely sure yourself. In any case, your days of streetfighting in a tank top and cutoffs are behind you.

The phone rings again. You sigh as you pick it off the hook.

"I apologize for calling this late, boss, but they shut down the drug lab at the gasworks." You don't even bother asking who "they" are anymore, you just sigh and rub your forehead. This headache is going to kill you.

"What's their status?" you ask.

"The big one's still shot. Long-haired one's still got his arm in a sling. Little guy's wearing an eyepatch now. None of us are sure who did that to him."

"Seriously?" you ask. "How's the karate guy still fighting? He's had that hole in his side for hours."

"Well, heeeACK" he says. The line goes quiet for a minute. You hear some heavy sounds in the background and a bit of laughter before whoever's there hangs the phone up.

Welp. Time to see if your bodyguards are worth what you pay for them.

You settle in for a long wait. The twins - some kung fu guys who were constantly getting in fights for the honor of the girl they were dating when you hired them - are camped out in front of your suite. Kind of over-enthusiastic and prone to self-congratulatory nonsense, but they've got the skills. You pour yourself a cognac.

The worst part of this entire nonsense is how the punks breaking up your operation are getting public support. Word is when they destroyed your Evil Fire Department (a squad of arsonists who would ride around in a firestruck and spray kerosene from a hose onto buildings and then light them on fire) that people were actually outside cheering. Absolutely disgusting.

You hear a noise in the hallway. People shouting, followed by some martial arts kiais. Looks like you're not going to be waiting that long after all. Suited up, cognac in hand, you walk into the living room.

I would assume we're packing heat of some manner. Keep it stowed until we're sure we can't miss at least one shot. Ask what the ruckus is all about and why these shmucks are mucking in our business. If they ask about the bounty, explain that usually, when a bounty is called on someone, they learn to either leave town or take their licks like a man (or woman) and learn from the lesson. These bozos may not be the first to have not gotten the hint, but give credit where credit is due.

Make sure they know that you learned from our first hooker and our first brothel that you always protect what's yours, what's important to you. In our case, it's the city.

Some sort of orange-suited karate giant opens the door with a dramatic sidekick. An eyepatched guy in a white t-shirt and a man with a pipe in his good arm and his bad arm in a sling pour in. The twins are slumped over out in the hall. Hopefully they're alive, you made some pretty dramatic promises about building statues for them if they fall in battle.

"Why, gentlemen, what seems to be the trouble today?" you ask, leaning as casually as you can against a bookshelf.

A bookshelf with a thin veneer of book spines glued together and an assault rifle hidden just behind them.

"This is 220B, right?" the eyepatched one asks.

"This is obviously the right apartment, who else would have martial artists waiting outside to defend it?"

"You mean the poor fellas in the hallway? They were just...."

"...I was ordering barbedue," you say. "Karate Chops. That new place downtown? Oh my god it's delicious, you should try it."

The trio freeze. You can't believe this is working.

"Then why don't I see any barbecue?" the one with the pipe asks.

"I was reeeeeeal hungry," you say.

"Sounds...legit," the karate guy says.

"That's obviously not true," Eyepatch says. "The chief firefighter gave us this exact address and said there'd be twin martial artists guarding her. That's totally what just happened."

"But why would she lie?" the one with the pipe asks.

"Because she's a drug-dealing pimp who ordered us dead and we're three bad dudes, obviously!" Eyepatch says.

"Alright, fine. I can't believe that would have worked if it were just those two," you say. "What do you want me to say? You roughed up one of my men, I wanted them to rough you up in return. Most people would've skipped town or taken their beating, you had to escalate it. It's going to take months to rebuild everything you did tonight. Are you happy?" Your hand drifts toward the false bookshelf. The three of them track your hand with their eyes. The one in the karate uniform and the one with the pipe grin a little. They've probably got this figured out.

"Not quite yet," the karate guy says. "I've got a feeling I'm about to be, though."

>perspective switch.

You are Saul. You've been rolling with what you hope is just a dislocated arm for most of the night, been stabbed a few times, almost shot now and again. Long story short, after a week of threads with only two or three readers max I got to thinking about the quest. Once the main enemies and allies were established there wasn't as much freedom to come up with the crazy shit people enjoyed in Street Fighter Quest (as an anon pointed out to me in the last thread), and it didn't seem terribly likely to correct itself. I decided to just do a perspective switch and skip to the last boss battle, then start over next week with something new that would capture the tone of SFQ better. I'll talk about it a bit more at the end of the thread.

So, uh, surprise finale thread. I realize that sounds kinda shitty to say like that.

Hey, it was a change of pace from one-on-one fights, training, and the occasional KoF match, so I won't fault you for that. You wanted to play around with the beat-'em-up genre, and that's totally fine by me. Maybe it's because there's such a broad spectrum of characters that can be drawn upon and created, like in
http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21372839/
when everyone was coming up with World Warriors. It's not necessarily that Streets of Fighting was less wacky than SFQ (in fact, it played to a lot of beat-'em-up tropes), but probably more that the future is so colorful and with so much to do. Hell, I've got a couple ideas myself for what to do with Super Street Fighter Quest, if you'll hear them.

>Also: what if we played the villain next go around? Try to take over a city with our quirky mini-bosses while fighting plucky misfit heroes?
That could work. Part of the issue is while the last quest played like Street Fighter, which is full of one-on-one fights with colourful characters, this one plays more like a beat-em-up, where all the really neat, crazy stuff gets saved for the boss fights and the rest of the level is mostly the same grind. Note how much attention this boss fight thread is getting, and how interesting the fight with spear janitor was, compared to the rest of this quest.

We've got to pick our genres carefully, I think.

As the boss pulls out her assault rifle - seriously, did she think you'd be surprised - you consider throwing Tatsuya or Joe at her. They're both pretty solidly build, though, probably not super likely with your bad arm. You dash in for a disarm.

Swinging the pipe straight up into the rifle knocks it clear from her hands. She stares at it as it flies away for a split second, then punches your bad shoulder with all of her strength.

She's got really good punching form, you think. Then the pain overwhelms you completely.

>Yo, Joe!

You are Joe. You don't need the eyepatch, but the other two guys were hurt pretty bad and you were unscathed, so you quietly slipped it on between the motorcycle jousting and the Reverse Firefighter battle. Also you think it looks cool.

Saul goes down for the third time tonight because of a hit to that shoulder. He's too stubborn to sit anything out, leaving you to hope surgery can fix whatever nerve damage he's wreaking on himself.

To be honest with you, I think most of it was the cast. The main cast was good, the deuteragonists were good, and we had a brand new larger-than-life fighter practically every thread.

With this thread, once we had our trio established (and I do like all three of them), that was about it. Apart from the occasional boss fight like spear janitor.

You try to get footing to do a neat leaping-over-Saul trick. Plant a foot on the coffee table, think about whether or not to let out a Bruce Lee-style kiai when you do.

Foot slips on a magazine the boss left on the copy table. Your feet slip out from under you as you tumble down onto the floor.

>>23562507

...which could've saved your life, actually. She had a second gun, one of those little up-the-sleeve numbers that she drew and shot right into where your center mass would have been if you didn't slip. That's a pretty solid anti-air game.

She whips the pistol down to face you on the floor. Pulls the trigger a few times. Looks like it was a one-shot deal. You pull your feet back under you, then shoot yourself at her. When this is over you're going to pretend that was totally on purpose.

"Tatsuya! Incoming!" you shout. You twist just enough to get an angle on a hip throw.

>be Tatsuya

You are Tatsuya, walking continuity nod. You were shot in the side earlier, but with Saul fighting on through major trauma you thought it would be poor form to give up while he's still walking.

>be Joe

You crouch down beside the boss and put a finger to her wrist. Still has a pulse.

"She survived the giant crazy fireball," you say. "So what now, we just call the cops?"

"That should be enough," Saul says. "We'll dial 911 and leave it off the hook."

"Jesus. I can't believe we actually did it," you say. You and Saul exchange shit-eating grins. "We took down Psycho Cog in one night."

"There's still one thing left to do," Tatsuya says. You turn to see him cracking his knuckles. "We take out the gang, then we fight. That was the deal."

"You've been shot," Saul says.

"You can't use your left arm. So it's as close to even as you two are going to get."

"Wait. Are you going to try to fight both of us?" you ask, feeling your blood run cold."

"Don't see why I wouldn't," he grunts. "Get ready!"

You exchange glances with Saul. A slight tilt of the head, raise of an eyebrow, watch the way he sets his jaw. He'll come in from Tatsuya's injured left side, you come from his right and try to grapple the shit out of him.

A moment later you both strike.

A moment after that Tatsuya has both of your heads in his hands. He stops a mere inch from knocking your heads together.

"You two give up?"

"Y-yeah," you say. You actually feel kinda sheepish. You're a tough guy - the dozens of knocked out thugs, shattered limbs and broken faces you've left in your trail tonight proves that - but Kyokugen training is on another level.

"Anyway. Saul, you wanna share a cab to the hospital?" Tatsuya asks.

"It would be my pleasure," he says.

"Great. Joe, wait til we've been gone five minutes and then call 911 and leave it off the hook. The two of us are gonna be moving pretty slow."

"Hey, guys?" you say. They pause. "Just wanted to say thanks. We should get some beers or something after this."

"You could always join my dojo," Tatsuya says. You are convinced your body is not ready for such an event.

"Maybe we can play Dungeons and Dragons sometime," Saul says.

"That sounds...yeah, why not? Let's get together when you guys are discharged and play a game." You reach out and fist bump your companions before they turn to go, leaning on each other for support.

"You're gonna like this, I've got an idea for a campaign..." Tatsuya starts. You give them the five minutes they asked for before dialing 911 and leaving it off the hook. Time to get out of here.

---

A few hours later you find yourself back at the street all of this started at. The diner the waitress worked at - Debbie? You're pretty sure it was Debbie - is open, doing some slow mid-morning business. Lucky you, she's even working.

"Hey there," she says, turning that smile on you. "You - holy shit, what happened?"

"Kind of a long story," you say, taking a seat at the counter. You give her your most charming smile. "Could I get some coffee? I'll tell you all about it."

That's it for Streets of Fighting. We may be back someday, who knows? In any case, the restaurant I work in is closed next week so I'll probably run something shorter and goofier. I might also writefrog up something about the status of Anon and Ellie at this point.

Anyway, a couple ideas I had knocking around for if you decide to run SSFQ.

1. I'm basically taking one of the characters made in one of the older SFQ threads that I made, specifically
>http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/21372839/#p21373824
and making her the new main character. For the sake of reading, here's the repost:
>Lindsay Douglas of England.
>A member of Delta Red (British Special Forces), Lindsay is an expert in CQC and various small and mid-sized arms, much in the same vein as her superior officer and World Warrior alumnus Cammy White.
>A consummate professional, her moves are sharp and precise, and she leaves little to chance.
In a role like this, it gives a chance to look at fighting and operations from a more professional and government-involved perspective. Basically, Cammy would be your handler and trainer as you go on missions around the world and eventually enter the tournament proper as the Killer Bee's protégé and "daughter." You get to deal with international politics and wars of intelligence, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Interpol, the Americans, the Ikari Warriors, the late Commander Ling's special agents (Vanessa/Seth/Ramon), etc. There's an overarching plot that NESTS is attempting a revival, and you go on various missions to stop it. For example, a mission sends you to Mexico to find and recruit a hiding Angel (yes, THAT Angel) to prevent any loose ends and get her old knowledge.

2. Anon part deux. Goes without saying, in a way. He's ditched the suit and sticks and is starting fresh in Thailand with Rebecca Lane, that worldly Irish woman and his first opponent from the tournament, at his side.

3. Darkstalkers Quest. Pick a monster myth (even though existing Darkstalkers covered a lot of 'em) and run with it through the shocking and all-around kooky realm of the supernatural, rubbing shoulders with creatures old and new.

Those are my ideas. Someone else mentioned the would-be villian as a possibility, too. Obviously, I had a lot of detail to that first idea, but it's been sitting in my head for a while and doesn't want to leave, so I'm wondering how well it'd go over.
>>
>>23563779

I was thinking something like this. The mercenary yoga teacher and Leona expy could also fit in as side characters/opponents. I did want to get a look on how the military and intelligence side of things operate in this setting, and espionage and secret projects has always been a staple in KoF and SF.

I dig the Delta Red idea. I was always kind of sad that we didn't get to see more of that side of the world. Darkstalkers one could also be good, I should see if there are any good monsters they haven't done yet. Do they have a Mothman?

About what Anon's been up to, you've basically got it right. I see him as sticking around south Asia for awhile and finding his way to Jakarta to focus on learning more empty-hand silat, picking up new techniques and fighting everyone he can along the way.

If I do a Delta Red or Darkstalkers short quest (like this one, maybe five or six threads long) it would probably be under the SFQ banner again? I'll have to figure that out.

I'd imagined playing the next generation of Delta Red would be the full Super Street Fighter Quest expansion in itself. It's a new protagonist with a new set of goals that can lend to a large campaign unto itself.

As for Darkstalkers Quest, I don't think Mothman's been done. Hell, any of the giant kaiju probably haven't been done.

Like I said in the original prompt, you'll be rubbing shoulders with a fair number of official types, including the Ikari Warriors. I imagine that within the scope of the attempted NESTS revival, each organization would have their own leads to follow in the grand global investigation (because when word got out about the comeback, the global community responded with a resounding "fuck that." They're a classified terrorist organization, plus putting down the nascent company will prevent other evil organizations from getting the same idea coughshadoloocough.). I would expect an Ikari cohort sooner or later.

"In February 1998, Ol' Dirty witnessed a car accident from the window of his Brooklyn recording studio. He and a friend ran to the accident scene and organized about a dozen onlookers who assisted in lifting the 1996 Ford Mustang—rescuing a 4-year-old girl from the wreckage. She was taken to a hospital with first and second degree burns. Using a false name, Jones visited the girl in the hospital frequently until he was spotted by members of the media."
That's me making my case for ODB.
>>
>>23565462
Yeah, Cammy kept most of her holdovers from her old life as Dictator's clone and bodyguard. Her facial scar is from Claw, and I imagine she absentmindedly scratches at it when thinking about the old days. By the time she got out and joined Delta Red, she was pretty committed to bring Shadoloo down. Now that Shadoloo is no more, they can focus on putting down the new company this time and not be distracted.
>>
>>23565464

That's an interesting premise, because it'll allow for introduction of characters from rival organizations that you could choose to work with or antagonize. Can't catch them all, either: you can't work with all sides at once.
>>
>>23565136
I think this post alone is reason enough not to do this.

We have enough "sexy monstergirl seduces everyone" quests. SFQ is good for over-the-top ridiculous bullshit and high-stakes fighting about lofty ideals.

Even said lofty ideals are silly in and of themselves, like whether Boss Honda is terrible for enjoying LMFAO.

Officially, everyone is on the same side. It's the unified global community against this singular threat-in-the-making. Expect liberal usage of the phrase "It's okay; I'm with the good guys." I would imagine that in the interest of safety, though, certain leads may be kept confidential from the other agencies, and if those leads happen to intersect, it may lead to interesting encounters. The idea I'd had in mind was that Delta Red sends you to find Angel, who had gone to ground after NESTS fell apart and wants nothing to do with her old employer since they burned her pretty badly. After the assurance of asylum and immunity, Angel agrees to help and enter your custory on the condition that you help her put down K9999, who is in the area because he's obsessed with her and won't leave her alone, likening him to "a rabid flea-bitten dog who doesn't know when to quit." So you help her track down K9999 for the final showdown, only to find out that a CIA agent is also looking for K9999 (to put him down as well). This can lead to a heated encounter.

Actually, since not everyone has heard or heard of the Wu Tang-Clan, I'll say some more. They're a nine person hiphop group with many allusions to martial arts and martial arts movies (Ghostface Killah, 36 Chambers of Death, Wu Tang, many samples from movies, Liquid Swords album, Eight Diagrams etc.), they've released a (probably shitty) fighting game, RZA produced the soundtrack for the movie Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai, about a ghetto youth following the Book of the Samurai. ODB himself was a bit insane, frankly, but he was never proven to be dangerous in any way. Mostly he was just hilarious and rambling to some degree.

Completely forgot about that. Anyway, the suggestion is a rambling ODB defending poor, neglected or abused children while trying to stay ahead of the law, battling gangs and thugs with his unorthodox style, which is known by more names than Dirt McGirt can ever hope to recall more than once. His base would be something like a trailer in a junkyard or something, or a house on a roof (homage to Ghost Dog) which has been styled in a cheap Chinese fashion.

This sounds amazing. Tell me more.
>>
>>23566098
I don't have a ton figured out just yet. The Gohma would definitely feature. I'm still working out whether I can make the Eight Mantra the core of the Secret Arts without a chart that makes people's brains hurt, and while retaining the flexibility of the current Secret Arts - the nice thing, at least, is that joy, melancholy, wrath, and a couple of the other Mantra fit pretty neatly in the five-element system.
>>
>>23566171
I adapted the five-element system into a six-element system in order to run an Alchemical Exalted game. Figuring out the right pattern wasn't that hard, but what to put where as far as controls/promotes was annoying, to say nothing of assigning passions and curses and whatever else to each.

Changing it to eight would probably be a bigger headache.
>>
>>23566635
Yeah, it's a little tough.

The blessing AND curse of this is that Asura's Wrath has a ton of neat ideas that aren't heavily defined. On one hand, this gives me a lot of opportunity to screw around with interesting ideas, on the other hand, I'm kind of flying without guardrails here.
>>
SFM has probably gone, but just for the record: when I started following this quest, I got a real "The Warriors" vibe, which I liked, but that seemed to peter out quite quickly. I appreciate the difference between a sideways-scrolling beat 'em up and a vs battle game, and that that was something you were going for, but even in side-scrollers there are minibosses, different levels and even simple puzzles.

Something like House of the Dead may be a good bad example: it's not in the least Street Fighter like, but has you wading through hordes of bad guys to get to the boss. There are multiple pathways, things to collect, all that jazz.

I still think a JoJo Quest ran in the same vein as SFQ, that is, completely crazy and with lots of reader-decided posts, would work amazingly well. Doesn't even have to be set anywhere in the standard timeline, Arc 6 took care of that. Solid manifestations of the power of your spirit created either naturally or by getting cut with a piece of meteor metal, plus vampires and anti-vampire kung fu cults. Oh and Stand Mafias. This shit writes itself.
>>
>>23566836

Yeah, I went out to dinner. I do see the points you're making, though.

Writing this from a smartphone so it's a pain to point back to individual posts, but a Delta Red game would probably keep the original 'no/few canon characters' rule. We'd okay it by ear, obviously.

Screw it, let's go for it. Monday, 1pm 4chan time, Street Fighter Quest: Special Ops (or Delta Red) First Mission begins. It'll be a mini quest running one week focusing on one mission.

I'm inclined to create a spec ops unit from scratch. Gives us more room to come up with coworkers/bosses/the like. Same with enemy organizations, maybe? Try to avoid it turning into Spies Vs Shadaloo iteration twenty-eight. Maybe an offshoot, leftover remnants or partisans. We'll see what happens when we get to character creation.

We should still be able to see the old influences, though, and be able to see where we've come from as an organization, be it new or old. It's seeing those elements come together into something cool that can be recognized that makes the overall experience so fulfilling and nostalgic, that gives you the chance to say "dude, I know these guys."
Anon was inspired by Eagle.
Ellie was a daughter of Kyokugen-ryuu Karate.
The "yoga instructor" had ties to the Ikari Warriors.
It's those things that remind us that we're in a world where the World Warrior tournament and the King of Fighters tournament are actually a thing. I'm not saying the main enemy of Street Fighter Quest: Special Ops: First Mission specifically has to be remnants of Shadoloo (because Shadoloo is dead and gone), but it's something to be considered. By a similar token, if our organization actually is Delta Red itself, you can't just leave out its single most iconic member (at least within the scope of the games).

That's just what I think about it.
>>
>>23574806

That's a good point. Maybe an Interpol division or a U.N. agency that sometimes liaises with Delta Red? By this point I assume Cammy would have been promoted out of the field, but she'd still be around in some capacity.

I see Cammy as a Big Boss-like figure. Or the Solid Snake to our Raiden, a mysterious figure that provides advice from the shadows.

Games in their respective series pre-2000 happened in the year they were released, unless explicitly set earlier. Street Fighter happened in 87, SF2 in 92, Street Fighter III in 97, the Capcom vs SNK matches in 2000 (there's not really as firm a story there per se, in-universe it's probably just a series of exhibition matches as the legends of the fighting world throw one last huge tournament to celebrate a golden age.) The quest is set in the modern day, so the original fighters are aged at least twenty years from their Street Fighter 2 days. I'd expect most of them to have retired from fighting tournaments with a few rare exceptions. Part of this is age, part of it is how the fighting world was going through a serious slump at the start of SFQ.

In general? Games mostly happened when they're stated to happen, the things that happened in-game more or less happen in this universe unless it would be completely setting-breaking. The main cast of Tekken all probably compete in a corporate-sponsored tournament called The King of Iron Fist, but the bit where an evil ogre wakes up and murders strong fighters everywhere and then Jin starts World War III either didn't or happened in a much more limited way, for example. Same for most other fighting games I'm less familiar with. The Virtua Fighter cast are competing in the World Fighting Tournament, the D.O.A. people are playing volleyball on a beach somewhere or something, so on and so forth. The only games that aren't happening in this weird mashup universe are the ones in explicitly sci-fi or fantasy settings like Blazblue and Guilty Gear. Although if Persona Quest had kept going it was going to eventually be revealed that the MC of that quest was the brother Anon mentioned now and again in passing, meaning you could argue Persona 4 Arena happens in this universe as well.

tl;dr words words words everybody's older now.

Going by RAW, NESTS blew up Old Southtown in 2000. They were known for crimes against humanity before that, but blowing up Southtown would be the final nail in classifying NESTS as a terrorist organization. And yet they still managed to sponsor the KOF for one more year.

Also, the Ash Saga never happened.

That's what I meant. Technically, the Ash Saga happened, but by happened, it means it undid its own existence, meaning it never actually happened and that Ash Crimson never existed.
Also, Garou: Mark of the Wolves was SNK's answer to Street Fighter III, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's set around the same time. It's a weird, nebulous thing, but yes, we can say that Rock is grown up by now. Also, Sakura, Sean Matsuda, and Mel Masters (Ken's son) blew up in recent years.
>>
>>23577553

>blew up Southtown
>threw another fighting tournament the next year instead of being ground out of existence by every army on Earth for crimes against humanity

I love fighting games but when they try to have bigger world-threatening stories they can get so nonsensical. Ryu struggles to balance his desire to become stronger against the possibility of losing himself to do so? Awesome. Makoto wants to promote her dojo? Solid motivation, well done. An evil organization somehow needs to make a bunch of people fight each other for world domination? Now you're kinda losing me.

>>23577601

Mark of the Wolves came out in 99, followed by Rock appearing in CvS2. Could stand to reason that's where that tournament happened in canon. Having an eternally youthful Terry and a perpetually-kid Rock in later King of Fighters games is...I don't know, swept under the rug somehow. Rock would probably be in his early 30s now, his eventual fate determined by whatever he fucked off with the final boss of Garou to do. Presumably his evil blood still boils.

Putting together a coherent universe for this is kind of a pain. In retrospect maybe I should have just said Tatsuya and Ellie practice Rindokan karate and just let the continuity go.

Shit, I forgot about Maximum Impact. Okay, maybe if the continuity goes like this:

>Street Fighter main series and King of Fighters 94-97 happen exactly as presented
>EX and MI do not
>Orochi story arc happens, a slightly truncated version of NESTS saga happens, though the damage to Southtown isn't as extreme as it was portrayed in game. Mostly some roofing companies had a very profitable year, if you happened to be outside at the time you were very bruisy for a few days
>Mark of the Wolves marks the endpoint for the KOF timeline. NESTS only took up 98 before everyone went Zero Dark Thirty on their terrorist asses, Mark of the Wolves happened in the year it came out (99), then Capcom vs SNK2 happened as a grand exhibition when the two tournaments were sold to a new organization
>this new organization doesn't have any ulterior goals or secret armies, they just make money by selling tickets to fights. The old guard compete for a little while longer, then mostly age out of the competitive scene, turn to teaching, managing younger fighters or other careers. Management at the new company starts selling more ads, product placements, lousy reality TV shows, slowly turning the World Warrior and King of Fighters tournaments from a proud tradition of noble fighters dueling for supremacy into 'sports entertainment' style nonsense. This is the watered-down fighting scene that Anon was so angry with and joined the tournament to fight back against.
>D.O.A.'s owners found that female volleyball tournaments are more profitable and less likely to get them attacked by ninjas, so now that's all they focus on
>Virtua Fighter is well-behaved and doesn't cause continuity headaches
>Mortal Kombat falls under 'fantasy and sci-fi setting' and thus doesn't get integrated

I think that's all of them but Tekken. I'm less familiar with that continuity except from Street Fighter X Tekken. There's a Gamestop on my way home from work, I'll see if they've got Tekken 6 for cheap.

Don't forget the game "Injustice: Gods among us" or something like that. Not just they have a solid comic to back up the story, the game is made by the same guys who did MK9, so there is going to a lot of plot, which is relatively rare for a fighting game.

During Alpha, it was to assert himself and to power the Psycho Drive, which amplified his Psycho Power. In fact, the absolute height of Dictator's power was at the end of Alpha 3, when he had the Psycho Drive and all that extra power, hence the massive body. Then the Drive got trashed, and Dictator had to make due in SF2, where he still had ambitions to take over the world. Similar in SF4.

Wasn't he trying to find a strong host for his next body? I always figured he was going to wait for someone who could defeat his current body in one-on-one combat, have his remaining forces zerg rush the guy (or just have two dudes with machine guns force him into the next room or something) and then plant his soul into the victor's body. That plan goes awry when Akuma one-shots him by surprise.

Yeah, there was some fuss about Bison finding a proper vessel, especially after Cammy disappeared and Shadoloo was dismantled the first time.
As for Ryu vs. Akuma, I doubt it. Akuma's entire modus operandi for the longest time is convincing Ryu to succumb to the Satsui no Hadou so he can fight him with his full power. Unfortunately for him, Ryu has refused to succumb every time and is actually really good about it. In fact, canonically, Ryu's strength and style in the beginning of SFIII are equivalent to what they would've been had Ryu actually succumbed to the SnH, meaning he's effectively beaten his dark side for good.
>>23578149

A highly-popular series of comic books when the World Warrior Tournament and the fighters themselves licensed their images to Marvel Comics. The Street Fighter characters who don't appear in the game didn't license their likeness for the comic and so couldn't be used. That's how the characters who didn't place high enough to win prize money can still afford to train full-time and fight for a living, along with mopping up in less-known tournaments and matches.
>>
>>23578205
>In fact, canonically, Ryu's strength and style in the beginning of SFIII are equivalent to what they would've been had Ryu actually succumbed to the SnH

These might be really easy questions, but there's two things about Street Fighter I've never been clear on.

1: How many tournaments per game? Like, take SFIII. Were SFIII, Second Impact, and 3rd Strike all separate tournaments? Or was there just one per main release and those expansions simply retcon the one tournament into having a few more entrants?

2: Was it ever officially stated who won the various Street Fighter games?

1. SF2 and 3 are interpreted as one tournament retconned across multiple games. Alpha has specific events occur, particular in 2 and 3, and SF4 is its own kettle of fish.

2. Ryu won SF1, that goes without saying.
In Alpha, the whole thing kinda fell apart at the end, and the series ended with Charlie, Chun-Li and Guile nuking the last Shadoloo stronghold, destroying Dictator and the Psycho Drive.
In 2, it's hard to say, but it's assumed Guile/Chun-Li got to the finals somewhere and had their climactic showdown(s) with Dictator.
4 is a clusterfuck.
3 is a bit of a mess, too, though I know for a fact Ryu lost to Oro.
>>

>>
>>23578309

Ryu wins the first one, second one is a little more vague (I believe it's canon that Akuma comes out of nowhere and murders the host, maybe the tournament was just called off after that?) but some sources point to Guile or Chun-Li. Similar for III - apparently Abel was the victor, but Gill turning into a fluorescent superbeing might have invalidated things.

>>23578352

Bloody Roar either goes under Fantasy Setting or "Shapeshifters live in the same shadowy masquerade as the Darkstalkers characters," just...you know, they happened to never run into each other. Or their respective masquerades are both so effective neither noticed the other's masquerade. You know what? That's funnier, I'm just going to say that's canon for SFQ. Every fighting game that's set in a secret masquerade hiding from the real world is canon and they've all failed to notice one another. Evil Zone falls under Fantasy Setting, I think. Never played that one myself.

Eh, some of the characters didn't seem to hook, though they've made comebacks.
Yun (with Yang as a striker) appeared in CvS2.
SF4 brought back Dudley, Ibuki, Makoto, Yun and Yang. Plus, Seth takes a fair number of cues from Urien.
In SFxT, Ibuki and Dudley returned, and Hugo (w/ Poison) and Elena made their grand resurgence.
In Tatsunoko vs. Capcom, Alex represented SFIII by headbutting everyone and Flash Chopping missiles in half.
In Capcom Fighting Evolution, Urien represented SFIII.

Really, the only characters from SF3 who haven't made comebacks are Remy, Q, Oro, Sean, and Gill.

Yeah, Akuma ambushing Dictator with the Shun Goku Satsu at the last second in 2 is entirely canon.
>>
>>23578566

My mistake, Abel wasn't in III, it was Alex.

I think in Ryu Final which while not canon is probably massively important to the series, implied(or outright said) that Axel won the SFIII so i'm going to go with that.
I like how the "MC" of SFIII is a Pro Wrestler, they should do these kind of things each new game where the "Main Character" uses a different style from the other
Also one could argue that Abel is the MC of SFIV
>>23578566
>Abel
Don't you mean Alex?

>>D.O.A.'s owners found that female volleyball tournaments are more profitable and less likely to get them attacked by ninjas, so now that's all they focus on

We really ought to have a quest featuring this. Maybe starring Tatsuya's daughter or her lesbian galpal.
>>
>>23578622
No, I'm pretty sure Ryu is still the central focus of 4, but Abel and C. Viper come very close. Hell, Viper became the SF4 rep in Marvel 3.

I'm just saying
Ryu has almost no relation to Seth, I don't think they ever interact.
Sure he is THE GUY, but his storyline with Akuma & Gouken is not the main plot point of the story

Makoto is my favorite, for a number of reasons.

Primarily, though, Seichusen Godanzuki.

See, my bro is one of those crazy fucked up Ryu players who's gotten insanely good at abusing Shoryuken's priority, he's a complete bitch to fight. Not quite gonna win a tournament, but good enough to compete.

Well back then I mostly played Cammy and I was having a shitty run, so I switched to Makoto - I'd been practicing with her and had managed to make a complete run of Very Hard with her so I knew enough of her basic combos to say, fuck it, if I was losing anyway...

Anyway the first few rounds were murderous while I tried to learn Makoto. But then... I got it. I threw him off his game. And then I nailed him with the Seichusen Godanzuki.

Not even thinking, I yelled "MONKEY PLUCKS TWO PEACHES FROM THE GARDEN!"

And he bursts out laughing. It completely threw him off his serious game and restored the spirit of competition and laughs to the game. For the next six or seven rounds, every victory with the Seichusen Godanzuki was heralded with a new, goofy martial arts name for it - "ROLLING BOULDER CRUSHES SMALL PEBBLES ON THE MOUNTAIN PATH!", "WINE HARVEST COMES EARLY!", "TWO EGGS CRACKED FOR MY MORNING OMELET!"

And then it happened. I completely stomped him the first round, and the second round, it's nice and close. We've both got our Ultras. He's planning to win it with the Metsu. I lure him into it, back away, and catch him on landing with the Seichusen Godanzuki. And, completely out of ideas, I shout the only thing I can think of to celebrate my victory.

"RIGHT IN THE MEAN BEAN MACHINE!"

Everyone fights a copy of Seth, but the actual Seth was obsessed with getting Ryu's data.

I... I think I love you SFM.

I was gutted when Rucka didn't start up again like he promised.
>>
Some of the characters in Evil Zone seem almost like ripped off from SFQ. DanZaiver especially.

Or not. Been rather long since I last even saw my PS1.

I hope this is canon SFM

But, Yeah. I can see why "Welcome... to the EVIL ZONE" would fall under fantasy.
>>
>>23578853
Right so if they're talking about their endings, then canonically Jinpachi died on Wang arms and Wang defeated Azazel?
>>
>>23578589
SF×T stands for the tekken crossover, right? I was not interested on buying it at all, but, crap, Poison + Elena are making reconsider...

Also, can we get a bit more Poison on new quest? Please?

Maaaaaaybe? As with everything, kinda depends on the rolls and is subject to the 'canon characters are sparse' mindset. I think Poison herself would still be working with Hugo on the pro wrestling circuit if I'm not mistaken?

>>23578838

I've never played it. Looking on Youtube found a Retsupurae for it that makes it look amazing, though, I should try to find a copy out there somewhere.

>>23578716

Y-you too. But seriously, I've only read the first volume but I liked it. Rucka usually does good work.
>>
>>23579259
Yes
With the recent patches, it's actually a pretty decent game
>>
>>23578133
>>23578035
Tekken is pretty much that. The main storyline goes around the 4 generations just trying to kick the shit out of eachother.

I think in the last one Jin, the youngest started a war against the world as a big fuck you to his father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Haven't really paid attention.
>>
>>23579481
IIRC the whole shebang is, he starts world war 3 to awaken Satan so he can beat the shit out of him and thus magically do away with all them demon transformations that plague his family.
>>
>>23580243
Oh yeah. He was attempting to awaken the horrid beast that was supposedly responsible for the Devil Gene.
>>
>>23581411
"I know it's genetic, but I'm pretty sure I can just punch Satan until he shuts up."
>>
So... how do the Ki storms that wreak havoc in the US fit into the continuity? I don't remember that in the SF games, or KoF.
>>
>>23582370
Well this is in the "future" of the series

So after the popularization of the Fighting Tournaments the ki could've been happened thanks to oversaturation of hadoukens
>>
>>23582405

Yeah, I'm interested in stuff like that because it's an expansion of the setting.

It's not really a thing. More a cartoony exaggeration of ki control prevalent in a lot of the tournaments.
>>
>>23582529

It's something I like because it's an elaboration of how a world in which fighting game scenarios are real would work. It's a cartoony exaggeration, but it works because the setting is already larger-than-life.

We could do a Samurai Showndown one right?

That's a few centuries out of place.

>>23582370

It was originally just elaborating on a joke answer. In-universe it's due to too many of the karate hobos gathering in one place, eventually the area becomes oversaturated and things get weird.

>>23585052

Technically it's in King of Fighters continuity, which makes it continuity to this quest. If we're adopting the 'numerous short-run quests that ultimately tie into a larger continuity' model we could definitely go back that far. Maybe if some sort of ancient artifact or something gets mentioned at some point we could go back to an ancient swordfighting era.

>>23585196
You're a good dude, SFM, and I look forward to seeing your next DARK WORK.

Seriously.
