You are Kylan Arvus, former Lieutenant of the Terran Federation Marine Corps, and a Chimera. You used to be human but after a run in with an Icorani Queen (Giant Psychic Bug) you nearly died and were accidentally put back together using alien DNA by the Sophons, a technologically superior isolationist race. After finding out that you had spent about 50 years floating through space in a coma, you struck a deal with the Sophon Board of Directors to provide them with data on your new body in exchange for some credits, gear, and an identity within the Galactic Republic. You accompanied the adjutant assigned to you, Jorcos, to the Psionics Laboratories where you met Decala, the surprisingly bubbly Sophon Psionics expert. A few tests helped to determine the extent of your physiological changes as well as the potency of your psychic powers. During this process, you nearly slagged the lab with your new abilities and accidentally flashed Jorcos and Decala.

Traits:

Psion: You are a Psion, the next stage in human evolution. You possess abilities that bend the laws of physics to a certain degree. Your powers can range from Telepathy to Biokinesis. Psionic powers vary across races, with some races developing their own techniques.

Spacer: You were born aboard a ship traveling the cold void. You spent most of your life in space and as a result are very familiar with ships and space stations and environs with low gravity.

Scarred: You took part in several Black Operations for the Federation during your time as a Marine. Many were morally wrong and left you feeling conflicted inside. You may have psychological issues that require sorting out.

True Professional: You are very, very good at your job. You are trained in many forms of hand-to-hand combat, are proficient with a variety of weapons, ranging from simple melee to complex ranged. You can operate many kinds of vehicles and have knowledge to use many pieces of equipment. You are extremely well versed in military protocol and SOP. Your universal translator implant allows you to understand most languages used throughout the galaxy but you can speak several without its aid.

Chimera: You possess some qualities of other alien species such as enhanced strength, stamina, dexterity, nightvision, and a redundant nervous system.

>Cont.
>>
Abilities:
Telekinesis (Level 0): You are capable of moving some objects around.

Telepathy (Level 0): You are capable of sensing the presence of some people.

Electrokinesis (Level 1): You are capable of firing bolts of electricity from your hands. You can also sense and redirect electrical currents.

Technokinesis (Level 0): You can sense and influence some machinery.

Overcharge: Engaging this ability will enhance your psionic abilities to incredible levels. Upon using up your Overcharge, your psionic abilities will be unavailable for a short period of time and your energy reserves will be depleted. Energy will need to be replenished very quickly. Excessive use of Overcharge will cause damage to your body.

You are currently standing in the slagged remnants of the Psionics Testing Labs. You are alone with Decala, who is staring at you. Jorcos left less than a minute ago. You were about to say something when your stomach suddenly gives an almighty rumble.

Dacala starts, looking at you with what would probably be a concerned expression if it weren't for the helmet.

"What... what was that?"

You grin as you push your Aviators up the bridge of your nose. ""Hunger. Brains are good from what I've heard, but I prefer something edible. Like pizza. Do you have pizza?"

"I have no idea what traits your people consider attractive or unattractive anyway. Whether or not I've seen your face doesn't matter!" You exclaim.

"It's illogical to automatically assume that I'm attractive just because I'm female!" She shouts back.

You throw your hands up, "I did not realize that your people only judged other people by their looks. I am sorry if I offended you. Now if you will excuse me I am in dire need of nutrition."

You turn to walk off but suddenly Decala has grabbed your hand.

"Wait! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to anger you. It's just that nobody has ever called me pretty before."

You turn around to face her and she continues. "We Sophons spend the majority of our lives in our suits and we judge attractiveness based on skill and body language. In both I'm decidedly lacking. I chose a dead-end field and I'm overly reactive. I know for a fact that humans judge attractiveness by other physical characteristics so I thought you were playing a prank on me. It's happened before." Suddenly, she seems rather sad. "Besides, what about me could you possibly be attracted to?"

"Your lovely voice." You respond and she snorts.
"It's becoming obvious to me that I'm unsure of your social paradigms and you're unsure of mine." You continue. "I play at nothing just wanted to get to know you is all."

Decala look happier, "Fine then. I'll come along for a meal."

The two of you leave the lab and continue down the hallways until you reach what appears to be a cafeteria. Several Sophons are milling about in groups. The appear to be sipping from canisters of blue liquid through straws built into their helmets.

You and Decala approach a tall organic looking vendor and Decala steps forward and presses a button on its face. Two canisters of the liquid slide out of the machine and Decala takes one and hands it to you.
"Your amino acids are compatible with ours so this should be okay for you to drink. Try it!" She says as she sips from her own.

"I hope it's blueberry flavored." You say as you take a sip.
It tastes odd, the flavor sitting heavily on your tongue. It's slightly sweet, but similar to chicken. And avocados. You honestly don't know what to make of it.

Distracting yourself from the unusual flavor of the drink, you say "Built in straws. That's genius. That's just genius. Why didn't humans invent anything like that?"

"Probably because you were too busy beating each other over the head with large rocks." Decala says. She turns to look at you and you're getting the feeling that she's grinning.

You smile back and decide to strike up some small talk. "So tell me about yourself."

"What do you want to know?" She says as she takes another sip.

"So, How long ago did you complete your education?" You query.

Decala pauses as she thinks about that question. "Well, I hold to belief that you never stop learning so therefore my education continues to this day. But if you mean when did I finish the Sophon equivalent of college, well, about 8 years ago, when I was about 12 cycles old. I understand that humans generally don't finish til they are 24 cycles old."

You take a sip of your beverage to at that but forge ahead. "How long have you worked here for? What is this building, by the way?"

Decala walks over to a table and sits down and you follow. "This 'building' as you put it, is the Carpath, a space elevator. I've lived aboard it my entire life."

Decala leans forward, "Now it's my turn. Tell me about yourself. Where were you born? How'd you discover your psionic abilities?"

You smile a bit as you recall your time in the Ascension Program. It was rough. You and twenty-odd kids in one barracks. It was coed but you learned not to ogle the girls early on. You got on alright with everyone but in training you found that you worked best alone. You could work in teams if you wanted, but it wasn't particularly appealing. Your nature of driving onwards to success had a tendency of leaving your compatriots in the dust. You graduated at the top of your class and earned the rank of Sergeant Major right off the bat.

"It was tough and grueling, but worth it in the end." You tell Decala. "I spent years in there. People considered me a 'Lone Wolf' since I was always working on my own. But I was determined to be the best and I definitely succeeded there."

"Apparently, the rest of Sophonkind." Decala grumbles as her head falls to the table. "It's a dead end field because it's commonly believed that we've discovered all that we can in it."

"What have you figured out so far?" You ask. "Cause I know shamefully little about Psions despite being one."

Decala perks up at this. "Oh? You actually want to know about my research? Well..." She clears her throat.

"Psionics is the ability to use the mind to manipulate reality in ways that bend or break the conventional laws of physics." She starts. "We've done research into where the energy comes from and how it's used to affect the world around you but it's hard to determine anything. We've studied actual psychic phenomena instead, and we've pretty much finished that up. Anything in particular you want to know?"

Decala tilts her head to one side, thinking. "...Besides all of it? It's an amazing concept, to be able to defy laws that constrain the rest of us. It could be put to so many different uses and several other cultures already have. But Sophons? We're all nulls so it doesn't matter to us."

She sighs and shakes her head. You seize the opportunity to ask, "Will the scans you've got of me be any help at all?"

She shakes her head again. "Honestly? It's something for biologists to ponder over. I can't use it for any kind of research."

Another thought occurs to you, "Could you explain something to me? I have trouble wrapping my head around how I could create a lightning field for over fifty years. That seems a bit much even for someone who regularly bends the laws of physics."

Decala taps the chin of her helmet and looks thoughtful for a moment. "Weeelllll... the Icorani are known for being psychic powerhouses. It's quite possible that the energy was focused through you and turned into positronic lightning. Positronic lightning is unusual in the sense that it's self perpetuating as long as there is a power source. In this case the Queen's energy store."

As you stand up, another course of action occurs to you, "Tell me, do you think the Sophon government needs any less than friendly races to have a few 'incidents' at strategic facilities, maybe?"

you find the release and pull. Nothing happens.

"You might need to pull harder."

You grasp the helmet and give a heavy tug. Suddenly, you're unbalanced, Decala is leaning on you and you're falling. You hit the table with a heavy CRASH!

Raising your head to look around and find yourself face-to-face with Decala. Her helmet is gone and you're captivated by her very blue eyes. You blink twice and focus.
