Chronicles of a Brighter Future
Or Bright Quest

The Quest So Far:
A man named Bright Noah joins Zeon (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Newly minted Majors Bright and Char Aznable are ordered by Dozle Zabi to perform a joint investigation of the rumored Earth Federation Mobile Suit in development at Side 7. After entering the Loum Shoal Field, and thwarting an ambush by the legitimate Midnight Insertion Team, Bright discovered the Federation is making another Experimental Mobile Suit in the neutral territory of Side 6. Zaku II pilot Kareem Councilman was sent to Pezun to bring word of this to Lord Dozle Zabi, who immediately contacted President Sherk of the Riah Republic with the request to investigate. His Riah Intelligence Agents have done so, photographing the early construction of the RX-78NT-1 Alex before returning with their findings…
Meanwhile, at Loum, the first mobility tests of the modified Zudahs were... inauspicious at best. The secondary manned tests later showed the units to be reliable, for the time being. The Zudah ‘Triple’ was also successfully tested and later manned, and might well prove a terror on the battlefield.
Currently, the salvaged Salamis has rejoined the Siegfried. The EFF prisoners are being transferred from the Magellan battleship to the two Pazok class cruisers sent from Pezun, while the Papua had a VIP: The mad scientist who got Bright into this whole testing mess in the first place, Professor Felix Ceff. Having banished Ceff to the CIC so Bright could check on Ezra Retersdorf, Bright and Ezra are subjected to a closed door Zabi conference on a hidden SD Card, in which Dozle calls Gihren an Idiot and uses Avalon Wonderland for Operation British.

Quest runs from 10am, PST, until 2pm PST OR until interest peters out / I need to sleep.

The system:
See Image or the Pastebin for a detailed ruleset. pastebin.com/e3q4q0MP
That'll tell you more than you wanted to know.

Basic rules still apply (Grey Box): Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other rolls made.

Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.

Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.

NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

>[X] CIC, to check on Ceff and Chris.

“I do, because frankly, letting slip that you heard Gihren Zabi’s intention of gassing a Colony from Side Two would have you stuffed out an airlock in short order. Hell, they’d do the same to me. So, we’re both going to play it safe and not say anything,” Bright cautioned.

“I understand, sir. Why would Elsa’s commanding officer giver her that? What did she mean by insurance?” Ezra asked.

“Blackmail, probably,” Bright said, answering the easier of the two questions. “As for how, I don’t want to know. I don’t even want to speculate on it, lest someone hears me and I happen to be right. You good here?”

She nodded. “I’ll clean myself up, make sure that,” she flicked her chin at the SD Card in Bright hand, “Wasn’t recorded on the Zaku’s system, and then return to my quarters.”

“Good plan. I need to make sure that egghead isn’t setting fire to the CIC by jerry-rigging Jane’s coffee pot to distil science or something. That coffee’s too good to give up because of a mad man.”

Ezra snorted, and then let the chuckle out as Bright slipped out of the cockpit, muttering under his breath.

The scene that greeted him upon entering the Combat Information Center was actually rather calm. This probably had more to do with the MP’s standing inside the doorway than anything else. Ceff and Christine Ask were huddled at once corner of the interactive table, multiple windows open, scrolling text and showing graphical data Bright could only guess at, but of of the graphs looked familiar, probably the same data samples Christine had running on her console during the Zudah ‘Triple’ test.

Jane was working on her own end of the table, but kept glancing up at the two scientists on occasion, interest seeming to pique and fade as certain key words came and went, apparently.

Bright reached over for the cup of coffee he spotted at the captain’s seat, picked it up, and drank greedily. The caffeine seeped into his system, leaving a welcome trail of warmth, and he sighed in contentment.

Bright gestured to Jane with his cup. “Marry me.”

Jane stopped typing and glanced up at him with a small smile quirking her lips. “That good, huh?”

“Smart, has contacts, and makes a damn fine cup of coffee. Very good. Thank you, Jane.”

She went back to her work, but the smile stayed. “You’re welcome, Bright.”

Bright crossed over to Chris’ side, and waited until the rapid fire string of questions, answers, and invective quieted down before asking, “So, Sergeant – figured it out yet?”

“Working on it,” Chris muttered. “All we really know so far is that, A, it didn’t explode, and B-“

“Everything went better than expected!” Ceff cut in.

“Explain,” Bright said.

Ceff leaned back and ran a hand through his hair. “Well. Frankly, I wasn’t expecting the power distribution module I tossed in there, something we built for the Dowdage, to do what it did. Seems it adjusted the fuel feed to the three main thrusters to give it a kind of… booster effect. Kind of like the Saturn Five’s, but it doesn’t toss off the engine.”

Bright pointed at Christine. “Translate that.”

She frowned. “So, remember when the Triple’s engines got brighter, and the numbers jumped significantly?” When Bright nodded, she continued, “That’s because the computer was adjusting the fuel feed to the three engines on the fly. It started with all three, and finding the fuel consumption inefficient, it immediately switched to a single thruster with the other two acting as additional, fine control verniers. Then, when demand for additional speed wasn’t slacking, it switched to two at full, then all three at the end. The result was as we saw in the test – it’s damn fast. This also means the computer will reduce or shut off fuel to any engine that overheats… we think.”
>>
>>23735623

“So far, it hasn’t overheated, so there’s no way to be completely certain,” Ceff said.

Bright took another pull of coffee as he thought on that. “So, it took an entire Salamis on a sleigh ride and didn’t overheat?”

Ceff blinked. “It What?”

“He came up with the idea of tying the Triple down to the prow to keep it steady while we did the stress test,” Christine explained.

“You What?” Ceff said. “That’s… well, that’s brilliant, actually! Tell me, have you ever thought of becoming a scientist?”

Bright ignored him. “And the rest of the data?”

“The test on the ZZ unit Wyatt brought over went well. And the additional numbers we got from your test and with PFC Pheonix’s initial data, we believe both units will be stable.”

“Just to clarify: you’re saying they won’t explode?” Bright asked.

“Not unintentionally, it seems. Failure is always an option, mind you, but a very limited one,” Ceff said. “Just keep them away from the business end of a compact Minovsky particle reaction emitter, and you’ll be fine.”

“I doubt any of my pilots would willingly volunteer to be fired at by a beam cannon, than you,” Bright intoned. “If you could ‘dumb down’ the salient bits to something Jean can understand, I’ll make sure the pilots go through the material.”

“I can do that, Captain,” Christine assured him.

--------------Side Six Omake: 6th Entry--------------

Dozle’s computer pinged at him, and he slammed a meaty fist upon the ‘ACTIVATE’ button, a large red USB peripheral his brother Garma had installed for him for just that purpose. “What?” He asked.

“Lord Dozle,” the comm. officer answered, “I have President Sherk of the Riah Republic on line three for you.”

“Put Him Through, Please!” Dozle answered. The image on the screen flickered, and President Sherk was looking at him. There was a pregnant silence between the two men, before the President sighed, and held up a photo, displaying the skeletal beginnings of a mobile suit, surrounded by people wearing Earth Federation Space Force uniforms.

“Well,” Dozle said at length, “That’s definitely a Mobile Suit, alright.”

“It would appear you were playing it straight with me, Dozle. Are you still willing to send a Musai over?” Clinton asked, his voice not quite steady.

Dozle raised an eyebrow. “I had one moved just outside of your territory, in case you wanted our assistance.”

Clinton poured himself a glass of water to steady his nerves, drank it, froned, and then got up to grab a bottle of scotch from behind his desk. “You’ll think me a fool, Dozle, but… I’m going to need it. Hell, I’m going to need as much assistance as Zeon is willing to offer Riah.”

Dozle raised the other eyebrow. “Tell me what you need, sir. I’ll attempt to gather it post haste.”

“A miracle,” Clinton replied, his tone sounding truthful. “I thought I could get some answers, figure out why the EFF was building that here,” he said, gesturing to the photos. “Instead, their ‘Diplomatic Liaison’ claimed Riah had violated our neutrality, sided with Zeon, sold the location of their base, and wanted the Libot, Ulster, and Fenian Colonies as a… ‘payment to keep the peace’.”
>>
>>23735854

Dozle’s entire body flinched. “My god, man. That’s insane.”

Clinton downed a shot of scotch, winced, and then poured another. “Insane or not, that’s what they said. And while Riah has been a bit… at odd withs Zeon after that failed Drop operation of yours, I am not about to hand a quarter of Riah’s population to the EFF as a peace offering.” Clinton took his seat, sipped at the scotch, and set it down on the table with a thump. “I need a fleet, Dozle. Zeon helped us gain independence, and we lost the majority of our space attack vessels after the negotiations. What we have left are old ships we pulled from mothballed units, and a few cargo vessels converted into weapons platforms. Those won’t impede the Hatte fleet at all, and I know it.”

Dozle nodded, and reached for his land line to Solomon’s Communications center as he asked, “Any idea on when the EFF will be attacking?”

“No,” Clinton admitted as Dozle issued orders over the phone, “I was so damned disgusted with their Diplomatic Liaison that I shut my computer off rather than talk to him any further. But based on this ‘Liaison’s past record, he’ll start notifying his higher ups in about five minutes, complaining that I hung up on him.”

Dozle set the phone back down. “Char’s Musai can be at Libot in ten minutes, with your permission to proceed-”

“Granted,” Clinton said immediately.

Dozle nodded in appreciation, and punched a code into his keyboard to order Char forward. “-and I can move the entire Pezun defense umbrella over to Riah in two hours,” he finished.

Clinton finished his shot of scotch. “The entire… Are you going to move PEZUN?”

“The funny thing about the EFF’s space combat doctrine, Mister President,” Dozle said, nodding, “Is that they never expected anyone to throw rocks. Ever see a quarter tonne lump of iron ore hit a space cruiser? It’s a hell of a thing.”

>>

We found out that Dozle used the Avalon Wonderland Colony at Side 3 instead of gassing and stealing a Colony from Side 2, like Gihren initially wanted to do. It ended up in the same place (Hitting Sydney, Australia) but had less of a negative impact on relations with Riah (at 75 / 100 instead of 40 /100).

Which means we've officially entered an 'Alternative Setting'. Congradulations.
>>
>>23735986
Hey we bought that colony fair and square. Not our fault the property market was depressed and Zeon bought it for a pittance.
>>
>>23736008

Yes, but Zeon still launched a Colony at the Earth, which will always have negative repercussions - just less than usual, considering 30 million civilians weren't gassed 1 minute after the Formal Declaration of War was sent.
>>
>>23735927
Operation British still failed to hit Jaburo and landed in Australia. The scale of the damage is probably smaller since we used a colony that was 2/3rds the canon colony size.

Actually, it was about the same. A closed Cylinder doesn't have the giant windows which helped the Side 2 Colony break up on re-entry. The EFF Fleet was still able to divert Avalon via en-massed cannon fire, and it did still hit Sydney, but less of it scattered off during re-entry. So the sections underwater or scattered across the landscape that killed untold thousands upon impact and provided cover for certain operations like in ZeonQuest?

Not an issue. 95% of Avalon impacted Sydney. No one died from debris impacting the planet. Only third of Humanity has died in this timeline. As Bright said, Congratulations.

YOU ARE CHAR AZNABLE.

YOU HAVE BEEN DIVERTED FROM YOUR ORIGINAL MISSION OF CAPTURING AN EXPERIMENTAL EARTH FEDRATION MS AND ORDERED TO CAPTURE YET ANOTHER EARTH FEDERATION EXPERIMENTAL MOBILE SUIT.

IN RIAH.

YOU ARE LESS THAN ENTHUSED.

It is at this moment that Char’s stalwart executive officer, Lieutenant Alec Dren, notified him of an incoming communication from Lord Dozle Zabi. Char nodded, and said, “Put him on.”

“Char!” Dozle said the moment the static cleared, “I Have Secured Permission For Your Entry Into The Riah Republic, Char! President Sherk Needs Your Assistance Post Haste! Seems The EFF Caught Wind And Are Heading There To Join Riah In Battle. I Need You To Go In, Capture The ‘United Steel’ Installation, And Once Riah’s Militia Has It Under Control, Take The Flamel And Join Whatever Ships Riah Can Scrape Up In Defending The Side Until Pezun Gets There. Any Questions?”

“What kind of assault are we expecting the EFF to throw at us?” Char asked.

“The Majority Of The Side 2 Garrison, I’d Imagine. Though President Sherk Hung Up On Their Liaison After Hearing Their Offer, So The Exact Number Is Unknown. Pezun Will Be There In Two Hours, Though, And I’ll Have Any Mobile Suit Assets They Can Provide Meet Up With You As Soon As Possible.”

Char tapped his chin, thinking. “Right. Once the forces from Pezun arrive, we’ll be secure. But it only takes an hour to get from Hatte to Riah on full burn. I’ll do the best I’m able, sir.”

“Right! Good Man. I Knew I Could Count On You. Now Go In There And Get That Facility Cleared Out!” And with that, Dozle closed the line.

“Helm, take us to Libot, full speed!” Char snapped.

“Aye sir, course set and locked.”

The EFF knows Riah knows about the MS. Thus, the EFF can assume that Zeon knows because Riah knows.

I'd say a bit of everything. We're against the clock to capture anything of value before the Feddie forces destroy everything. Contact Riah to assemble the Militia to prevent the Feddie forces from escaping their now confirmed coffin and facilitate civilian evacuation from the soon to be killing field.

Launch Char's Zaku and his Zaku compliment. We're going for Shock and Awe rather than stealth. They know we'll be coming in their paranoia, thus know point holding back.

Oh, and contact Mister President himself to issue a blanket speech saying something along the lines that "The EFF has betrayed our trust. They have broken the ceasefire treaty by building 'Weapons of Mass Destruction' in our colony. Zeon forces arriving are here to defend our Republic from the Aggressor EFF faction."

>The EFF knows Riah knows about the MS. Thus, the EFF can assume that Zeon knows because Riah knows.
In Side Six Omake #5, Lieutenant Reed flat out accused President Sherk of selling out to Zeon. So, yes.

At the moment, there are EFF soldiers at the 'United Steel' facility, who have probably been altered to the going on. They have whatever equipment they can Jerry-rig from the Alex parts to act as impromptu base defense in addition to carbines and small arms.

So, there appears to be two calls for launching Zakus now, and the rather good idea of a Presidential Address to be broadcast throughout Riah to notify the people of the situation, attempt to calm them, and request they evacuate to shelters.

I'm getting lunch. I'll start writing when I get back. Feel free to add any other suggestions during this time.
>>
>>23736892

I can't think of anything else relevant.

Ah, if Char has a Commando compliment, can they magnetically clamp themselves to Zakus to bolster the militia upon arrival? Make sure they have enough O2, 3 to 4 hour spare, to allow rescue from the Zeon forces incoming from Pezun.
>>
>>23736892
Heya OP.

Check your email about that irc channel.
>>
>>23737071
That is exactly the kind of thing Zeon equips Musai pattern cruisers with Komusai for.

Char does have a single commando team, with 20 members. They can easily use the Komusai to join Char in holding down the United Steel building, or they can route to Libot's North Dock, and help the militia lock down any EFF ships in harbor.
>>
>>23738532
Use Char to lock down the harbor and the commandos to united steel.
>>
>>23736892

Could we use a combination of the Militia and our Commandos to not just lock down, but 'confiscate' the EFF ships? then we can use the EFF's own weapons against them.

other than that, alls good.
>>
>>23738532

Split the difference. 10 Commandos to each hot zone. Char helps lock down the Fed ships.
>>
>>23738704
You have five Zaku II's - Denium, Royal, Slender, and Crown's along with Char's Zaku IIS. You'll be needing to pull Char's and Royal's Zaku's out of the Komusai before the commandos will fit in there. Do you want to split the Zaku Teams as well? Char and Royal to the Dock, and the three Zaku's to the United Steel building? Or vice versa?
>>
>>23738760

That's six? Send two to each hot zone. Keep two in reserve just incase of any surprises.
>>
>>23738833
5. Char, Denim, Royal, Slender and Crown.

>>23738586

Hahaha. I like your style, but alas. We are only one ship versus god knows how many. Our resources are best allocated to keeping them bunkered down until Pezun forces arrive.

“Comms, open a channel to Riah, request a line to their President. Dren, get my and Private Skewis’ Zaku’s out of the Komusai, and inform the Commando Team I’ll need them prepped and ready for transfer to the komusai as soon as the Zaku’s are clear-“

“Sir, President Sherk is on the line,” the comms operator informed him. Char gestured to his desk, and the operator passed the call to his personal computer.

He leaned over the screen and said simply, “Mister President, I’m Char Aznable. We’re here to help.”

-------------

Clinton composed himself. He wasn’t the type of man to do public addresses, except when he needed to. And Char had informed him he needed to.

“People of Riah,” he began, “I come before you today with bitter news. The EFF has betrayed our trust. They have broken our neutrality by building a Mobile Suit in Riah territory. When confronted with this fact, their representative accused me of selling out to the Archduchy of Zeon. They refused to admit blame, and instead demanded four of our colonies to be moved from Side Six to Side Two as a way to sue for peace.”

Clinton stood, his fist shaking as he clenched it. “This Will Not Stand! I refuse to bow my head and submit to such callow and crass methods! I have contacted Zeon for aide, as we did to gain our independence. Zeon forces will soon be arriving here to defend our Republic from the despicable tactics employed by the EFF. So I ask of you all, to stand with us against this invasion of peace. I ask our militia to cooperate with the forces of Major Char Aznable, and Pezun commander Colonel Lucius Hasfjord. Civilians, I urge you to take shelter, now, before the fighting begins, and stay in the shelters until the all clear signal is heard.”
>>
>>23740887

He sat back down, and the camera followed him. He ran a hand through his hair, and sighed. “I would also ask, ladies and gentlemen, that you pray. Pray for the future of our Republic, thrown against the tides of war. Pray that we are not dashed upon the rocks, as was Loum.”

“Join with me, and pray for peace.”

-----------

Char and Royal were in the vastness of space, using thruster packs to navigate to where the Komusai crew had dropped their Zaku units.

“Sir,” Royal asked over the comm..

“Yes, Private Skewis?”

“Any tips, sir? I’ve never flown with anyone, much less and ace, before.”

Char turned slightly, and looked back at the man. “The key to being a wingman, Royal, is to remember you are the wingman. Let the leader lead, while you stay back and provide coving fire using the training you have received. You do not copy what your wing leader does. For example, my custome Zaku Two can move much faster than your own. As such, it is capable of evasive maneuvering you can not mach – don’t try. Stick to the basics, and if I order you do to something, do it to the best of your ability.”

“And if your orders go against my better judgment, sir?” Royal asked.

Char reached out and grabbed the corner of the open cockpit door, and looked at Skewis fully. “Then I suggest you learn where the fine line of moral judgment and disobeying orders lies, Private. And until you know where that twisted path leads, it may be best to act on orders received. There will be times I am privy to information you do not have to take into consideration.”

Royal saluted. “Thank you for allowing me to be frank, sir”

“Of course.”

The Zaku IIS cockpit door slid shut as he entered, hitting the toggle for it on the side of the console. He waited until the cockpit filled with air before removing his Normal Suit helmet, and started the system up. He then opened a channel to his pilots. “Gentlemen, as President Sherk informed us, there are no current EFF ships in any of the Riah colony docks – that he knows of. Denim, Slender, Crown – split up and check as many of the colony dock as you can in the next five minutes. Commander Garret, I want your commandos to help the Riah Militia secure the north and south docks of Libot, make sure the EFF don’t steal any Public class transports and sneak away. Royal, you’re with me. We’re going to United Steel.”

He received the acknowledgements, and sped away, keeping a pace Royal’s Zaku could match that would put him inside Libot in ten minutes.

They arrived without incident, and cleared the north dock on the off chance their information was falsified. It proved empty, save for three Public pattern assault craft flying Riah colors and a Main-Line pattern long haul freighter. Char used the Zaku’s arm to wave the Komusai in, and it quickly lined up to a dock platform and offloaded the commandos before pulling out to block the entrance.

“Let’s go,” Char said to Royal, as the other man threw a quick salute to the commando team before flying in behind him.

Guide lights came on, directing them to a side passage meant for large freight, and the huge doors cycled, allowing them entry into the colony interior. Char worked the pedals, launching his Zaku into the air towards the center of the colony where gravity was near zero, and noticed an incoming call on his comm. “Aznable, what’s your situation?”

“Civil defense team bravo, we’re pined down, under heavy fire!” A woman’s voice said, just before a loud ripping sound, accompanied by the spang of ricochets, was broadcast over the line. “They’ve set up some kind of large rapid fire gun on a gimbals with an armored compartment! We can’t take it out, and request mobile suit assistance!”

“Copy, Bravo team. Fall back out of it’s line of fire, and we’ll be there soonest.”

The woman began issuing orders even as she disconnected the line, and Char notified Royal to follow as best he was able. Then the throttle slid to the stops, breaking the two thin wire safety lines on his throttle. One was marked ‘Emergency War Power’. The other?

‘3x’.

Royal had to steady his Zaku against the sudden gale as Char simply vanished.

Blow that gun to hell. Char has THE fastest suit hands down. Blow the gun and keep right on trucking at WEP into the Feddie hangar. Char needs to blow any other half finished or nearly finished emplacements so the Civil Defense can breach the perimeter unmolested.

After Royal has confirmed the safety of the Civil Defense, have him lead the Civil Defense into the complex while providing suppressive fire so the Defense teams can move up. Be sure to inform the Defense teams that taking out any anti armor is the top priority.

To my understanding: In World War 2 era planes, there was a wire across the throttle body on planes equipped with a WEP system. It would force water into the engine to cool it down while burning more fuel for increased RPM.

The downside to this was increased maintenance as it tore the hell out of the engines.

I did a Google search for throttles with a WEP wire, but came up dry. Though some have a physical stop bar at the place where the WEP wire stop would be, probably to keep people from accidentally engaging it when it's been pulled / not in service.

This picture of a P51D cockpit, for example, seems to have the stop bar at the Open throttle position, keeping the last 10% from being accessed.

Yup.

If you ever see PlaneFag on, ask him. If anybody has a picture of a plane throttle with WEP wire equipped - he'd be the guy.

I just know about them becuase my great uncle was a B-24 mechanic in England during WWII. As much shit as he had to shovel with duct tape and bailing wire, the fighter plane mechanics had it ten times worse.

The things he had in his albums... man.

The mechanic's opinion towards Young in PlaneFag's Strike Witches Quest? Completely Deserved. The reason I even read the SW quest was the accurate detail the main has with his planes, pilots, and support staff.

a meta question for you Char. When White Base left Side 7, Artesia was on-board, yes? Did she arrive with White Base or was she on Side 7 with the V project?

also, I read Crossbone Gundam, and I agree that Tobia Arronax IS in fact the greatest Newtype ever.

Also, I think that I need to run though DW:G2 again as my data recall on the subject is getting rusty... on that note, I think that 3 has a nicer system, but 2 sticks to the plot more.

Sayla Mass was on Side Seven studying for a medical degree, I think it was. So, she was on Side Seven when they started the V Project, but not there because of it.

>[X] Other : Top Priority: Char - Take out the gun emplacement Royal - Ensure the Civil Defense Team is safe

Various messages and warnings flashed on his screen, and Char scanned them with practiced ease while keeping an eye on his altimeter and heat gauges. Civilians in shelters. All roads clear. Permission to engage hostiles granted. He reached over and tapped into the Riah info net, bringing up a map of the area, and overlaying it with color coded overlays. The gimbaled gun’s location, approximate field of fire, rough location of Bravo team. He forwarded the map and the overlays to Royal’s Zaku, and opened another communication with him. “CD team bravo is falling back along this road, using the facilities wall as cover. I’ll circle around the other side and grab the gun’s attention, while you provide a defense for Bravo team.”

“Sir. Can our Zaku’s hold up to that kind of fire?”

“…Good point. You can detach the shoulder shield and grip the mounting point to provide more cover. If you find anything useful along the way, grab it,” Char said as he arrived.

His Zaku blasted over the defense team and dropped in altitude, skimming the surface as he whipped around, snagging his heat hawk off the back mounting point and bringing his 120 mm machine gun to bear with the suit’s left hand. The audio pickups fed him a high whine sound as the gun attempted to track him, and he popped up and over in a high thruster boost, spotting the hastily erected emplacement, and threw the axe underhand before grabbing the 120’s brace to steady his fire as he cut the thrusters and began falling.

Heat Hawk:
[6+9 = 15 hit]
*[9+9 = 18 Doge]
*[5+9 = 14 hit]
[13+9 = 22 hit]

The heat hawk was a useful weapon, but not one meant to be thrown. That said, the molten edge of the mobile suit sized axe sheered the top off the gun emplacement’s armored compartment. The gun, however, was already firing, and Char gritted his teeth as he worked the controls, forcing the Zaku II into a hard dive, and then thrusting to the right at full. Bullets grazed his shoulder shield, tearing deep into the super hard steel alloy, and put him on high alert.

Continuing the motion to the right, the Zaku touched the ground briefly before launching back into the air. Char was getting a feel for this emplacement’s tracking ability. It would be a terror for ground targets, and it was a definite threat to any Zaku slower than his. But he still had speed. Char used the brief moment his maneuvering gave him to line up a shot. The 120mm barked once, the weapon aimed to hit the opening his heat hawk had carved into the armored compartment.

His aim held true, and the operator of the weapon was reduced to a red smear.

Char redirected the Zaku, swooping down and grabbing the gun, tearing it free from the roof and tossing it into the parking lot of the united Steel facility, his Zaku touched down a moment later, and he opened his comm. to broadcast from the Zaku’s external speakers.

“My name is Char Aznable, and I’m afraid I have you surrounded and out gunned, gentlemen. I would advise you to surrender to the civil defense team before my compatriot and I are forced to open fire on this building.” He punctuated his statement by aiming the 120mm at the nearest window.

He then opened a line to Royal, asking “What’s your status?”

“CD Bravo are moving back to your location now, after hearing that broadcast,” Royal answered. “No casualties, and my Zaku is all green. Moving in to support.”

“Good man.”
>>
>>23750280

The Civil defense team, which consisted of two dozen men and women on foot, a jeep, and a junior mobile suit with a stun baton, quickly filed in and set up a perimeter around the parking lot. Royal carefully set his Zaku’s shoulder shield down in the center of the parking lot, and several troops immediately took position behind it. A few tense minutes passed, but soon a man came out with a white flag, followed by forty men wearing EFF uniforms with their hands in the air.

Char kept a close eye on them as the civil defense team called for backup, and vehicles to haul the prisoners away.

His comm. ping him, and he answered, “Char here.”

“Major, this is the Riah communications network. We were asked to relay the following message to you: All docks clear of EFF ships and personnel, joining Flamel in organizing defenders. Denim team. Message ends.”

“Thank you,” Char said, taking that into account. “Was there any fighting elsewhere?”

“Our agents found blacked off corridors in the colony maintenance tunnels, and we positioned troops at those junctions before beginning the groundside assault. So far, only block fifteen cordon reported any activity, there was an aborted attempt to cut through the shutter and escape, which we managed to contain. Fighting there stopped four minutes ago, but our troops will stay in the area until CD Bravo, Baker, and Charlie sweep the building.”

“If my commandos are unneeded at the north dock, send them this way, would you? They have training in searching captured facilities which may be of good use here,” Char requested.

“Understood, Major.”

He signed off the comm. as several school buses arrived, carrying more militia and civil defense troops. They quickly zip tied the wrists of the surrendering soldiers and base personnel, and began the process of shipping them off to several holding facilities.
>>
>>23750284

The commando team arrived, and Char used this as an excuse to pull the Zaku’s out and head back into space to begin organizing the defense.

As Loum had taught everyone, space colonies were fragile things, and very large targets. Ideally, they would need to meet any EFF assault force between Riah and Hatte, at either above or below plane to minimize potential risk to the colony cluster.

Realistically, he knew chances of that were slim. The EFF would come to Riah, and his MS Team would be the thing that stopped them.

>I’ll end here for the night.
>To be continued next week.
