"Do you hear me now, women of the sidhe? I offered you a chance to leave and never return, but you didn't listen. This pains me, but you are a threat to those I am protecting, and so, I have no other choice. Forgive me."

You skewer the tip of the candle-staff into the creature's form, causing her to writhe in pain as ghastly fire pours from the wound. You wrap your wings around her and take in the residual magic and spirit of the banshee. It will take some time for it to settle properly in your body.

>Convert to pure exp
>forgo exp for random Banshee trait.

You see that the mist is disappearing, and you regard your new weapon with a keen eye. The tarnished buildup has been removed from striking the banshee and her children, the remaining metal is found to be iron.

You rewrap your cloak about your form, and grab the bible from where it has been left on the floor.

Taking wing from the church, you descend down the hill and into the village, you see that a fire has started.

In the square and among the streets, you sense the presence of many wild creatures. You see that atop the central church stands a powerful creature, howling a howl that thunders into the night. The townspeople are awake and you feel their fear as they hide in their houses.

Walk towards the church, If any wild beast attacks you, defend yourself.
"Dear God, this night is getting better and better. I was hoping to get some reading done, damn you."

Offer the Werewolf a chance, the same we did with the banshee.
"Child of Lycaon! I am the guardian of this place, and these people are under my protection. Leave this land and never return, less you force my wrath."

I feel that dealing with the big one will force the little guys to withdraw to protect him. So yeah, the beast.
>>
>>23823260
1-2 Vulnerability to Iron(would cause it to disrupt the magic in your body)
3-4 Hunger(Consume human life-force to alleviate it.*Not necessarily to death*)
5 Chilling Aura(Something off about your presence, it unnerves the living)
6Sense of Death(Allows you to sense when something will die.)
7Incorporeal form(allows moments of intangibility)
8Mist(Summons an ethereal fog)
9Spirit Children
10-Banshee Scream

Otherwise, yes, you could convert to pure exp for something like Dreamwalker.

Certainly, by using the power of the soul, the gargoyle can increase the power and durability of their form, becoming all the more imposing.

Want to get on tinychat or something? I figure those magics are varied quite well, yet it'll require resource material. Some souls may build relevant exp, while others can yield the knowledge directly.

The beast is obviously attacking. I say we try our hand at a dynamic entry by letting ourself fall onto it. We are bad at fighting and should milk the surprise for every advantage we can.

>>23823574
I won't enter a chat for this but a discussion thread on tgchan would be nice. Main advantage is that it has a far longer life-span. I like to be able to understand the though-processes behind decisions even months later. There is no bump limit so the threads only end when people begin to have trouble loading the whole page.
>>
You descend upon the creature, that stands mightily atop the church, you looks back to you with one whole and feral movement, it turns and snarls, dropping down to all fours and barreling at you as you begin to try to speak.

You wing off of the roof for a moment as the monster passes, it stops abruptly and turns to your airborne form, glancing about, seemingly looking for something as you begin your little speech.

"Child of Lycaon! I am the guardian of this place, and these people are under my protection. Leave this land and never return, less you force my wra-" The lycan found what it was looking for, it flings a large chunk of the church's roof at you, knocking you mid-speech and causing you to fall to the ground before a last minute recovery.

You sense the eyes of many wolves around you as you are so near to the ground. The fire spreads from one of the nearby houses, it's being taken care of by braver men among the village.

The Head Wolf regards you from the roof of the church, snarling with a savage growl.

Words won't reach this one wither it seems..

Your main advantage is flight. Stay away from the grounds as much as possible. Together they are far more dangerous than you are, so stay out of their reach whenever you are not attacking them. Remember to use your life-sensing to keep them from sneaking up on you. Throwing stuff was a really good idea. Follow wolfy's lead and throw stuff at the wolfes to keep them busy. You are most likely unable to deal with them alone so harass them as much as you can. Don't let up the pressure so they don't have time to attack the villagers until they have formed a line of defence. Only engage in a direct fight when there are enough human fighters to help you.

The villagers mustn't know we're alive and kicking. Think of the Masquerade, man.

You take heed not to land with the viscous wolves nipping at your heels. You swing your pole between the beats of your wings, and send the beasts sprawling from the force of your strike, few back off, yet with so many, they can't find a cowardly bone in their bodies.

The Head werewolf leaps down from the church. You sense the movement and you bring your staff back to smash the creature to the ground, the silver end of the pole causes it to elicit a pained howl as it falls among its kin.

The other wolves close around the wounded leader as it takes the time to get to its feet.

You sense the eyes of the villagers upon you.

They see your cloaked form through the flames, and you hear shouts of," An Angel!" and others such as," God has heard us!"

You mustn't let them know what you really are, and you pull your cloak a bit more tightly against your form.

You fly away, from the square, the wolves and their leader following in suit, a cacophony of snarls and howls follow you as you fly through the streets and away from such prying eyes.

As quickly as you can, you grab and fling back various items that you find in your path to impede the wolves, you hug your staff and bible to your chest with one arm while flinging these projectiles with your other.

Eventually, you have led the savages to the edge of town and away from the fire. Your eyes see that most of the wolves have blood on their maws, especially the Werewolf, that has the blood on his maw and claws.

>[] Attack the leader head on, it must be put in its place.

Casting you dark spell to twist the shadows and hide your form, you back off from the wolves as the leader steps forward, his pack covering his flanks.

A brutal, gutteral, and savage voice comes from the creature," To think... This village would be protected by a gargoyle. Come out you oversized pebble! Fight me! Or are you a coward of the dark!?"

The Werewolf's words command a challenge of you, yet you will not meet it upon its field. This thing threatens your charges.

You float about and fling a wolf that's out of formation with an upward crushing swing. The rest snap at you or scatter in fear, the werewolf snarls and rips at your fleeting, shadowy form as you finish back into the shadow.

"I... smell it..." The wolf lunges directly at you, it must smell the blood on your staff..

The werewolf tackles you with the entirety of its bodyweight, the two of you tumble backward and you find the wolf struggling, howling in pain as your candle-staff has been impaled into its abdomen. The other wolves surround you, snapping at you futiley as their leader kicks you off of himself, and begins to try to pull out the staff...

You slip back into the flickering shadows of the burning town, which have gotten noticeably more prominent as the people seem to be finding success in fighting the fire.

Taking Wing, you look for some other kind of weapon while the wolf deals with pulling out your weapon. You sense his duress as he writhes in pain.

Betwixt the forest and the village, you find a lone woodsman's axe. Hefting it into your grip, you advance rapidly towards the wolf-pack once more, brutalizing the beasts with your unnatural strength, while slipping in and out of your shadowy spell.

The muts begin to flee, yet you find that the werewolf is now back to standing, holding your makeshift staff with his claws, her snarls at you angrily," End this. Now."

You are all too familiar with blunt force that staff is capable of exuding, and you can feel that the werewolf's life signs are steadily improving with the weapon out of his wound...

With his remaining arm, the wolf grabs you by the neck and tosses you over his shoulder, smashing you, wings and all into the ground, your weakened wings save you from most of the impact, however they shatter due to the Banshee's earlier abuse.

As the wolf reigns over you in his "victory" you lay upon the ground for a moment, taking in the feeling of your body... Without your wings you feel so much... lighter?

The wolf begins to growl savagely as it pulls out the axe lodged in its shoulder, however it is deep, very deep.

In his distraction, you sleep a hand between his legs, gripping the fallen weapon, the iron and silver candle-staff.

Bringing it up, you smash the weapon into the monster's groin, causing it to whine and keel over you in a savage snarling pain.

With your weapon, you roll away through the shards of your wings, regaining your footing to bring the silver tip of your staff into the beast's head, crushing it into its head.

The wolf backs off holding its head in agony as the silver leaves burns against its flesh and fur.

Not hesitating, you spin the candlestaff, slamming it into the right side of his head, with the arm that won't lift.

The wolf is down, and now is not the time for poetry or games.

You do not utilize your gift of speech, for this wolf is only death.

You impale the wolf with silver as it howls in pain, silencing the beast.

The wolves that had begun to gather now scatter.

Holding your palms out, you draw in the force of the Werewolf's soul.

...Nice. Now we don't have to worry about our wings.
>>
Also, should have taken soul siphon instead of stupid voice and faggy wing.

Could have gotten those two by levelling and soul siphon would have increased our exp gain from start of the game, if we talk in game mechanics.
>>
>>23826474

Speech will have a use yet, and wings are evident in their practicality.

Let us not focus on the past, it is immutable in any case.
>>
Absorbing the soul of the werewolf, you convert its power directly into your form. It doesn't necessarily go down without a fight, yet you take on the monster's power and feel it slowly settling within you.

You feel that the soul of the banshee has settled and you draw in the knowledge of the creature.

The wolf's power will not yet manifest in you, yet you feel your stone being urged to mend despite not yet being capable.

You see that the night sky is slowly turning light, the night is ending.

>[] Return to your pedestal, post haste.
>[] Gather the pieces of your wings, though you may not make it back in time.
>[] Hide in the woods for the day.
>[] (Other)

Werewolf soul is slowly settling... Regeneration trait is not yet active.

Banshee yields 1 exp point!

(Worry not, if you look at the creation, it'll be along the same.)
>>
>>23826474

I think so too, but they wanted to speak "right away"...
>>
>>23826474
>wings
>faggy

fucking...what? The wings have more than proven their value thus far.
>>
>>23826506

Return to our pedestal. We may have to go without wings temporarily, but we cannot be discovered.
>>
>>23826506
What happens if we don't gather our wings? Do they not return?

What if we don't reach our pedestal in time?

Our wings are invaluable. They are a huge part of our disguise--people will notice they are gone..not to mention their utility come nightfall.
>>
>>23826506
>>[] Return to your pedestal, post haste.
>>
>>23826506
>>[] Gather the pieces of your wings, though you may not make it back in time.
We still have our cloak, right?
>>
>>23826507

Yeah, but that's just powergaming, and many of us found it more interesting to be able to speak and fly.

Unimportant now, in any case.
>>
>>23826510

True, the wings have allowed you the ability to travel quickly, compensate your your form's lack of pure combat ability....

And in combination with Humanoid and marble, it causes the trait, "Angelic" in which humans see you as their angelic savior should they witness you.

>>23826543
They will remain as stone for the day, to be retrieved later. The shards must be near you to properly mend for the day.

>>23826561
Yes, you still have your cloak.
>>
>>23826506
Gather wings, we need them. After all our church is pretty much abandoned, I reckon people don't go around too often.
>>
>>23826573
Especially after the fire. The villagers are busy.
>>
>>23826569
We need our wings. Not having them cripples us during our hunt, and risks the integrity of our disguise. Wearing a cloak during the day will serve only to arouse suspicion.
>>
>>23826573

For the record, my fellows' consensus has once again brought me to their side. Changing vote.

>>23826510

Might have been too harsh on the wings but my point still stands about the voice. It wasn't necessary at all and all that it has done is to put us in disadvantage and given incentive for the "whiteknight" type of players to try to solve everything peacefully.... in a setting where monsters are so dangerous and powerful that things like magic gargoyles are needed to protect the humans from it.
We're not actually an angel, we need to kill those beasts to become more powerful so that we can defend the village more properly. If we keep talking and "sending" monsters away, one day some powerful one will come which will care not for negotiations and we will have absolutely no hope in defeating it.

So stop with your "lets talk to them", even the damn banshee. Who the fuck cares if that was molly's mothers. For that matter, who the fuck cares about molly? We must think the well being of entire village not the first loli we met because that's how quests work.

You need to calm yourself. Not everyone agrees with your approach and that does not make them fools and you some misunderstood island of logic.
>>
>>23826625
Precisely. Mercy only serves to make us weaker, and any hordes larger. We are here to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

>>23826653
It would appear that the girl has a reputation as a sort of seer, perhaps even a prophetess. Unless her father was simply humoring her, she does seem to have a link to God, or at least has the ability to convince others that she does.
Using her could be valuable--we take on the voice of God, and ask her to gather resources needed to maintain us and our holdings.
>>
>>23826625
Agreed on all points, except for Molly. I figure we need someone to be our caretaker, the fact her mother is buried at our church means she'll be coming by anyway.
>>
>>23826687

This is Castiel, speaking OOC.

If you must knoe I voted to attempt negotiation in order to gauge the nature of creatures in the setting. We now know that most cannot be negotiated with, and will take appropriate stance in the future.

You, however, calling everyone who disagrees with your intrepretation of how to play fags and white knights, should stop. Its unnecessary. We are all trying to have fun here and that is hindering that.
>>
Well, I'd say that this was a rather successful first day at work.
>>
>>23826724
Is this your first time on 4chan? That's how everybody talks.
>>
>>23826756

No, but I generally desire a greater sense of decorum in quest threads. Its the same people all the time, after all, no need for bad blood.
>>
You look around, locating the shards of your wings in the dim light of the sun. . . Thinking quickly, you throw off your cloak and put all of the shards inside of it. With the cloak full of your pieces and your bloody candlestaff, you leave the carcass of the werewolf behind.

The sky rapidly lightens as you hike your way up the side of the hill your pedestal resides, the rays of the sun are not yet upon you.

Scaling the side of your church with a little difficulty, you splay the pieces of yourself onto the pedestal, causing a very light hum as they react with the restorative magic. You set the candlestaff in the steeple for easy access in your next night and you take up your position as the sun rises, your shards forming back into place as you slowly grow inanimate with the sun upon you.

It is now Dawn.
>>
>>23826687
Alright, sorry.
Maybe it is my desire to optimize and gain power quickly is clouding my mind.

>>23826653
>>23826719
Did not actually think about caretaking duty. Do we even need that now that we have regeneration?

>>23826724
Didn't mean to insult, just couldn't convey the proper term besides using "white knight".
Also
>OOC?
Uh... please don't try to role-play your own special character in a quest. That is not how they work.
>>
>>23826783
Regeneration mends the stone.

A caretaker keeps the condition of your body up.

aka: keeps the birdshit off of you, keeps you clean, presentable. Would also be a voice if the village ever thought to be rid of you.

They could also stand to be the only person you reveal yourself to.
>>
>>23826783

Apology accepted.

As to your other point:

Its not a character, more a voice of conscience. I do not expect to be heeded, but will keep to a certain style of writing, mainly to amuse myself. Think nothing of it, if you find it distasteful.
>>

>>23826808

Rolled 67

>>23826777
Are you writing up what happens next or whats happening?
>>
>>23826941

Agreed. A Guardian must be able to heal from wounds incurred in his duties.
>>
>>23826951

Yeah, I'm writing.

By the way, I wanted to mention, in this setting, Gargoyles are creatures of dark origin. It's why when they are made with too much power, or their magic leaks it upsets animals and sensitive people alike.

Gargoyles are guardians indeed with instincts to protect, yet they are close to being monsters themselves. Especially as they continue their duties.

For instance, with absorbing souls, the negative traits have tendencies to make you more monsterous in various ways.

Fighting monsters with a stronger monster, it's more ironic that your form is that of an angel.
>>
>>23827016
So what you are saying is that we are the Guarding Dark?
>>
>>23827016

All the more reason to aspire to becoming more, if you ask me.

Though I am sure others would prefer we take a more bestial bent, I will be here to offer the alternative approach.

I REALLY like that angle, Stone Mason. I thought it might be something like that, and its a good way to go.

Shame too, would have been interesting to see if we went full dark'n'edgy Obsidian/Demonic/Brutal/Violent combo.
Not that I disagree what we took but it was pretty generic and predictable.
>>
>>23827063

I enjoy this dynamic. Do we conform to our origin or our appearance? A thoughtful question.
>>
Hey, I wanted us to be a wooden monkey trickster that walks in the dreams of his people.
Still, this turned out nice.
>>
During the light of the day, you see that the fire spread to the other church in town, you can see from your position that at least half of it is scorched. The townsquare is full of people looking to repair and rebuild after the attack.

You failed somewhat in your duty, yet the damage could have been much worse.

Some part of you takes a bit of pleasure in the fact that the other church is ruined, perhaps they'll open yours up again?

You review the past night and... You can't remember what you did with the bible you were carrying... You had it when you were fleeing the wolves... you must have dropped it during your confrontation with the werewolf in the outskirts of the village... Oh... that could be bad...

You sense the presence of a small life near you. Focusing your attention down, you see that Molly has returned, yet instead of her being at the graveyard, her eyes are on you.

"Mr. Angel... Did you save the town? The grown-ups say that they saw someone with white wings. They don't believe you did it but... I'd believe if you told me." The small girl smiles at you but then turns to a frown, "I'm sorry your home is so dusty and broken.. No one comes here anymore..."

She begins to walk away before turning around to call to you.

"Can you say hello to mommy for me? Thank you again!"

>[] Speak, (Write in)
>[] Remain Silent.

(as a note, you can speak without moving your mouth.)
>>
>>23827110

I also advocated Dream Walking, and I will admit your chosen form would have provided some much needed levity to the Guardian.
>>
>>23827095
Middleground? Use appearance ad an advantage so that the humans don't fuck you up.
Also, OP said in pre-quest thread that some monsters live among the villagers (shape-shifters if I were to guess) so revealing ourself is never a good idea.
>>
>>23827117

I am conflicted.

Should we bring this child in now, as caretaker? Or is it better to wait for a better opportunity?
>>
>>23827117
>"I'm sorry your home is so dusty and broken.. No one comes here anymore..."

>It's a shame that your caretaker can't take care of you angel-chan
>Maybe I can be your caretaker tonight?

>[x] Remain Silent.
For now. Maybe the kid will start taking care of us on her own without our need to reveal ourself
>>
>>23827133

But of course, we were crafted for a purpose. The question was more as to it may be right to take some other elements of the beings we were crafted to resemble and include them in our actions.

Revealing ourselves invites destruction, for both the town and us, I am against it as ever on that scale.
>>
>>23827117
"Child, I am no Angel. Just a Gargoyle. But yes I protected the town as is my Duty."
>>
>>23827117

"If you will it to be, they will come."

Nothing more. Nothing less. No confirmation it was us.
>>
>>23827177

After deliberation, I am of a mind with this one.

We should only reveal ourselves to the girl given true reason, this does not suffice.
>>
>>23827192
Way too forward. We're a friend of the shadows, we do not act so brashly.
>>
>>23827219
I would rather be tell her the truth right away rather than let her make false assumptions that cause her to distrust us later.
>>
>>23827117
"I will. She is so, so proud of you."
Say this without moving your lips and remain perfectly motionless.
>>
>>23827117
Keep silent. There's no reason to reveal ourselves to her and doing something subtle would likely just spook her.
>>
>>23827196
Please note, this isn't an invitation for her to be our caretaker, it's really more greasing the wheels of bringing in other candidates. We need, at the very least, an adult.

>>23827244
Who says she's going to get that close to us? Shes a little girl who misses her mother, not caretaker potential.
>>
>>23827244

I agree, but favor silence, for now. No need to burden her before we truly have a need of her, and we may have not yet truly earned her trust.

You decide to remain silent, the girl happily walks away. Perhaps you could visit her at night as the angel?

Now that you think about it, Gargoyles do not have names... Your master had told you that the town will name you... Well, then is your name "The Angel?" You will need to read up about these entities. . .

The day passes rather quickly. Nothing of specific note seems amiss during the day. A couple villagers come by the church, saying something about possibly opening the place up for sunday mass tomorrow.

It seems indeed that the other church is out of commission due to the fire.

The idea crosses you that you may partake in activities during the night to... "garner" such favor. You feel a bit of excitement as you realize that you won't be alone all day after all.

>>
The other church is burned down. Chances are moving stuff here is not a priority. The town repair is. This church just became the main one and will probably be cleaned.
>>
This. The town should be safe for the night.
We need to help rebuild. It'd also help us to learn our surroundings and the people we need to protect.
>>
You stay half-awake for the day, letting yourself drift in and out of sleep. You feel the werewolf's power settle within your body, instantly feeling invigorated an a bit more "solid" as a result.

Master had told you that Gargoyles will be as strong as they need to be to defend humanity. . .

The rest of the day passes without disruption...

(Taking a break before the next night. I'm having a lot of fun writing all this. I figured you guys would love the Gargoyle customization and such. I hope to expand more on the ability/exp trees for your enjoyment!
I'll be running this again Saturday at 8pm or 20:00 servertime!)

(If any of you'd like to post or brainstorm various gargoyle builds/ abilities, drop on over tgchan in the quest discussion. I'll be working on your trees when I'm not busy and updating on there.)
>>
Also, both night 1 and 1.5 are archived on suptg, if you like it, vote it up!

>>23827885

This is great :) Thanks, Stone Mason!
>>
I'm also still here if anyone has any questions/suggestions.

This loads faster than tgchan does after all..

Oh, and about combat, I decided that since such things are done by "best of first 3 rolls" I should give the antagonist a similar chance.

So in order, the three rolls on my part as questrunner combat 3 player rolls and play out combat in vs.

I won't show what's taken next time. My last second amendment of two additional rolls was confusing. But it will indeed be first three.

where did the Magic tree go or did you remove it because we dont have any, also could you clear something up, would you need to get all of the powers connected and above a power to get it or just have atleast one thing connected to it. One more thing, can we just unlock anything in the Special tree in any order as long as we have the points?
>>
>>23829576

I'm making a separate sheet for it.

Yes, you'd need all the powers connected to a power to unlock it.

And the special tree is pretty much miscellaneous so, yes. You can just unlock it.

Certain things will become available from the special tree based on souls absorbed.

Yeah when people are sleeping, but not when they are wide awake and right infront of us so it's more options, don't just dismis it because it's similar to something else, it's up front usualy short-term manipulation. There might be a sleep power in the fae tree that we could use and then dream walk as a combo spell if our cover was ever blown to make them forget they ever saw us and it that they were sleep walking or actualy put them back in their own bed. We could do some prety cool things with fae magic if we were to get creative and the options were there.

Looking to have:
Fae Magic
Demon Magic
Primal Magic

Need spells that involve mixing Demon/Fae, Demon/Primal, and Primal/Fae, as well as precursors.
>>
>>23838678
Demonic could deal with causing pain and suffering. So, mostly damage over time spells.
Demonic / Fae could deal with curses. Debuffs and such.
Demonic / Primal could deal with lust and sin. Inducing rage, lust and so on.

Primal could have healing and manipulation of elements.
Primal / Fae would be bringing good fortune or enchanting weapons?
>>
>>23838723

Demonic could just as well be curses on its own.. Though Curses and Pact-making could work with demonic/fae, was looking for the angle of binding and making some dark creatures serve the gargoyle.
>>
>>23838797
Summoning, healing and elemental spells should be the portfolio of Primal Magic.
Fae should deal with trickery (powers over the mind), fate and time.
Demonic could deal with destruction, curses and possession.

>>

>>
>>23838678
How about some fake pain or manipulating someones senses, like making someone feel like they just got stung by a bee or someone just taped them on the shoulder to the feeling of being stabed or having a bone break but leaving the person completly unharmed. This could tie in with halucinations by making someone see something that isnt there and making them feel them if they were to touch it.

Or maybe the opposite, dulling their senses making their eye sight poor or remiving pain from a wound like an anesthetic or painkiller. Or if we just wanted to mess with someone we could put a bad taste in their mouth for shits n' giggles.

I can see it now, an illusionary hoard of angels thet decend upon the next monster that thretens the town, while we take on the boss in the confusion or just scare them off.
