You are a young adult in Tacoma, Washington attending the local college, Miskatonic West. Lately, the whole city seems more foreboding, more tense and you can feel something building in the air. Occasionally, you feel like you're being watched or followed whenever you step outside. You are...

[]Tomoko Kuroki, a young woman who is rather on the short and underdeveloped side due to a small genetic disorder and an exchange student from Fuyuki City on some kind of scholarship mentioning your potential. You’ve spent much of your life alone and absorbed in fiction, preferring the anonymity of the internet and your electronic pastimes to the real world.

[]John Q Rook, a local resident. A neophyte Magus attempting to his first summoning in the husk of a burned out middle school that he once attended. He’s not a social butterfly, due to his obsession with magic, but he attends his classes and church regularly.

[]Marianne Hyde, another local resident. Despite what your grades say, you're not book smart but you are cunning and clever. You’re a mage of admirable talent, with a specialty in getting people to do what you want. You’re a strong presence in the community because of this, but with your magical skills and natural fast talking, you’re able to get out of most bad situations. After all, no one would ever doubt your word.

[]Nicholas Ignatiavich, an exiled Magus from Europe. You’ve spent much of your life exiled from both mundane and magic, due to your obsessive study of your magic and your willingness to use modern technology and conveniences. But you know something big is coming and that you’re the most prepared.

Servants and Class are determined by which Summoner you grab.

For the past several months, you've done nothing but prepare for this ritual. You moved here after a nasty bout with an Einzburn when you tried to confront them over the supposed theft of their Grail system, and shortly afterwards the fabled Command Seals appeared on your arm. A sign of great things to come.

"From Iron comes the beginning, and with effort forms Steel. With a plea and a bargain, the call reaches out. Gates in all directions are closed, coming from the stars salvation appears. Fill. Fill. Fill. Fill. Three times refused, once answered. You shall be under me, as I was under you. In accordance with the resort of the Holy Grail, if you abide by this feeling, this reason, then answer." You recite, channeling your prana into the delicate metalwork in front of you. There's a slight crack of electricity and the smell of ozone, and in front of you sits a strange white cat.

~Hello. I am Caster. Are you my Master?~ It speaks directly into your mind. Immediately, you say the first thing that comes to your mind.

~Then the Contract is Established. May our partnership be fruitful, Master.~ Caster replied.

"Well, we should probably set up some defenses here to begin with." You say, grabbing some supplies for making Bounded Fields.

~I agree. I can already sense the basic fields you have in place on this location, but more would be appreciated. Would you like me to reinforce your own work, or add my own defenses on top of it? Or shall I focus elsewhere, perhaps on scouting or combat?~ Caster asked as you begin to work on another layer to your bounded field.

You grab a flashlight and cautiously approach the school, Caster entwining himself amongst your feet. You can taste something foul in the air as you approach, but feel no sign of a Bounded Field. Caster leads you deeper into the school.

"Caster, watch over me." You say, examining it closely. It's not exactly the same, but is incredibly similar to your own summoning circle. It seems more simplistic and amateurish, however. Sadly, if it was used to summon a Servant summoning it would do little for you in the long run. It would still be the best place for the Servant to retreat to if injured. "Alright, Caster, you inspect the circle and I'll keep watch." You tell him.

~Very well.~ He says, wandering over to the circle. You look around the burned halls with a cautious eye. Its been over a decade since this school was burnt out, but even so you can feel the presence it has left on the Leyline. ~I can confirm this was used to summon a Servant for the Grail. I can also confirm that I can use it for my own abilities, however.~ Caster informs you, sitting next to your feet.

"Trap it. We need an obvious trap, and then one to gather information." You tell Caster, "I can take care of the information gathering if you can do the heavy lifting?" You ask.

~Very well.~ Caster says, moving back into the circle. You start carefully melting tin dust and making a small circle in a back corner of the room, letting the metal seep into the cracks until it's unseen. You decide on a general divination, transferring anything seen or heard to you. On the dark burnt floors Caster is sitting in front of the circle and the rings on his ears glowing slightly.

"I am she who has signed the Contract and I have answered in Accordance. How may I help you, Masters?" A blue haired young woman asked with blue armor and a white cape.

~You are to guard this place and defeat all who would attempt to take it. It is crucially important that this place remains free of enemy control.~ Caster ordered.

...I know what it's a reference to, so I know this isn't possible but I have to ask: Velsper? Is that you?
>>
>>23831694
Not to mention this would be an excellent way to gather Prana. Each time Coobie maeks a contract and a magical girls witches out, he gets whatever Prana they end up releasing.

Well, assuming he'll hold off on using the energy to slow the heat death of the universe until the grail war is over anyway.
>>
>>23831759
I'm pretty sure wise up is what was used in the fate games. Not 100% on that, as it's been a few years since I played it.

other wise I vote fight to the death, after all we have a clairvoyance spell set up, so that gets us the info. We should also buy some spy cameras come day break, there is a good store for them in Vancouver.
>>
>>23831770
Would the Grail be able to slow that heat death? I guess a better question is would we give enough of a damn to use it for that.
>>
>>23831816

QB gets a wish too.

Or, at least, he thinks he does.
>>
>>23831816
What's our wish anyways? There was nothing concrete at the character select.

Money?
Knowledge?
Bitches?
The potential of the Grail is limitless.
>>
>>23831759
>>23831805
Wise up! is used in the VN, not just "I put on my Robe and Wizard Hat"
>>23831816
In an ideal world where the grail actually works for a change, yes it could slow it, but it could probably only slow it anywhere from a few seconds to a couple of years at most.
In reality? Angry Manjew decides to slow the heat death of the universe by converting the Earth into hydrogen and tossing it into the sun.
>>
>>23831898

I assume the root, but who the fuck knows.

If I have one complaint with this quest so far, it would be lack of detail. Be it setting, characters, or anything, its all been rather skeletal. Would like more!
>>
>>23831805
It is, but I spent most of yesterday re-reading I Put On My Robe and Wizard Hat, and every other chapter ends with one of those. Hence the middle part of my statement.

>>23831864
Good point, we need to hang on to one Command Seal to make our Servant commit sudoku once we've won the war.
>>
>>23831915
Well, that solves that.

>>23831864
Here here. Do want more QB and exposition.
>>
>>23831915
Dude, we're in Tacoma, Washington.

The details are: Trees, Rain, roving Korean street gangs, and now Wizards.
>>
"Retreat. But make sure you get some information first. That is our biggest priority." You say, standing from where you were working.

~Yes. With information we can always retake this area. Your continued survival is more important than this plot of land.~ Caster adds.

"Thank you, Masters. I shall do my best." She answers. With that, you and Caster leave. On your way back, you pester Caster with several unanswered questions.

"How many Servants can you summon?" You ask him.

~Thousands. Anyone whom I've ever Contracted with.~ He answered.

"And what happens if she fades from lack of mana?"

~Then she fades and I cannot resummon her.~

"And how much mana does it take to maintain her?"

~As long as she's not involved in a fight, she is gaining a net amount from the Leyline for as long as she or I sit there. If she's in a fight, it depends on how tough the fight is. In a tough situation, I can upgrade her capabilities if I must, but it is rather mana intensive.~ Caster explained.

Tomorrow, you have a couple minor classes at the college. You decide you will...

[]Skip class
-[]and scout the town
-[]check on your psuedo-servant
-[]set up some more defenses
[]Go to class
-[]With Caster
-[]Alone
>>
>>23831915

>>
>>23831961

I want info on who we are.

Age? Connections?

As for the area, how well do you know it? Can we have some sort of description?
>>
>>23831961
What classes do we have? Anything we can coast in we can skip, but making at least a token appearance is in our best interest. We're going to want to do some more scouting and prepare more defenses and weapons for ourself, including a bolthole or two.
>>
>>23831961

Then you just need info on the Fate/stay series. Here's the basics.

>You're a wizard fighting a war for the Holy Grail, which will grant you one wish should you win.
>In all, there are seven wizards, each of whom summons one Servant to do their bidding (Normally the Servant is a figure from legend or history. In this game, it's apparently anime characters.)
>We are currently in a town in Japan
>Nobody knows who the other Masters, Servants, or their allies are. For this reason, a good portion of the war is reconnaissance to find their identities and exploit their weaknesses.
>If a Servant or Master dies, the remaining one can find another and form a bond, granting the Servant mana to power their abilities. As such, it is wiser to kill both simultaneously, when possible.
>Last team standing wins the Grail.
>>
>>23832018
>>We are currently in a town in Japan
nope, Tacoma Washington.
the rest is true, far as we know.
>>
I don't get it. QB isn't a historical figure. Hell, it isn't even in recorded history as such. How'd it get in the heroic spirit roster.
>>

>>

>>

>>
>>23831961
Make sure Caster can cloak itself, then yes, to class. Make sure to look out for possible masters as well. And sudden, unexplained transfer students.
>>
>>23831990
I agree with this.
>>
GUYS, GUYS, BEST IDEA: Use one of QB's pseudo-Servants to trick the other Masters into thinking we have a Servant other than Caster.

In order to counter Caster, you must first know where Caster is. If everyone thinks we're running around with a Lancer or something, they won't be able to counter our evil plans.

The next morning you leave your run down apartment in the slums for your college. You can feel Caster's spiritual presence wrapped around you almost like a snake as you make your way through the quiet town. The locals all seem tense and stressed, as if they can feel what's going to happen. Its a little depressing, if you're honest with yourself. As you arrive at college, you park in a back lot away from where most people go. Your car may be a pile of junk, but no sense leaving it where you know someone else will probably hit it. You manage to make it through your Intro to Mechanics class fairly uneventfully, chatting a bit with the teacher and a few other students on the project you'll have to complete at the end of semester. Caster himself seems to offer some insights as well, correcting a few mistakes you make before they become disastrous. But on your way to Intro to Programming Caster's aura seems to tense up.

"Let's avoid them for now. We'll work on spying on them after class." You mumble under your breath.

~Very well. Right now, they are two floors above us and a hundred feet south east.~ Caster warned. You carefully make your way to class, and try your best to concentrate on it, but the presence of that other Master worries you. In the end, you're too distracted to answer any of the questions asked of you, nor do you get any work done on your projects. After class, Caster speaks up again.

~The enemy Master is heading towards the dorms.~ Caster informs you. You'd stick out like a sore thumb over there, the dorms are fairly small and everyone knows everyone else. Although, if you hurry you can probably catch sight of the enemy Master before they get too far.

Tomoko Kuroki, a girl from Fuyuki city. The city where the Einzburn Grail was. She looks young, younger than she should. Like she's barely into her teens when she's truly twenty. A young woman with long black hair in twin tails fades into sight in front of you. She's wearing a black and white dress that wraps up and around her shoulders, leaving a small diamond of cleavage open to sight. Question: Will Caster be aware if one of our faux-Servants bites the dust?

That could be highly relevant.
>>

We just need to have sex with out Servant to restore mana
Just my fetish.
>>
>>23833850
Mana is the energy outside you that you absorb and channel into spells.
your thinking of Odo, which most mages avoid using because its casting from HP.
The Servantcide is to create the Heaven's Feel, which breaks a hole in reality for you so that you can reach the root or whatever. otherwise the grail just acts as a big ass mana battery.
(Which is secretly possessed by an angry jewish man)

>[X] Ask caster how many Servants he can summon and maintain at once.

He said he can summon thousands, but that's diferent from how many he can actually maintain at once before the prana drain becomes too much for him. All of our current brainstormed plans require multiple Servants, so knowing what the cap is, how many can fight at one time, how many can remain passive in spirit mode, and if there is a hard limit on how long they can last would be important.
If prana becomes an issue, we can summon a Caster mecuga to take over the ley line and redirect the mana to QB.

I don't have the means to readily edit the character sheet right now, but yes. Caster can tell when his connection with his Servants is severed and he can maintain as many as mana can be provided for. The hard part is in channeling the necessary power.

>>

True, but napalm isn't what I'm thinking of. I was thinking of a shrapnel bomb set to detonate when some approaches it. That way we have a chance to seriously wound the master who tries to go back to the old school.

You roam around campus, trying to find people who know anything about Tomoko. It turns out to be harder than you expected. You ask a few of your classmates at first, and they mention that they see her in the library a lot, and the few that share classes with her mention that she seems to skip class alot. Its with a sense of frustration that you return home and collapse on your couch. Caster materializes in your lap and you rub his head softly between the ears. You're mildly distracted by the fluffy marshmellow soft texture he has when the faux-Assassin shows up. "I met her Servant. It's another Assassin." She answers, somewhat breathlessly, her brown eyes glancing about the room frantically. Caster bristles at the mention of an Assassin.

The Servant would probably detech some sorta entry or danger. What would be better is subtly fucking her over, like with an extreme laxative. If we lace the food in her dorm with it, people will think its just a prank at the end result, and it probably wont register as *DANGEROUS* on a Servant's sixth sense array.

See if our girl here has any more details. If she got any more information on Tomoko than that, if she got any more detail on the enemy other than it being Assassin, how strong an Atelier she has and its location, if it's in the dorms or not.

>>

>It's another Assassin
This is the part where I gloat.

Is there anything we can do to make an Assassin detector? Not that I think downing Assassin would be difficult, but that Presence Concealment is as dangerous to us as an Anti-Army Noble Phantasm at point blank range.
>>
>>23834187
Confront Tomoko for an alliance.
Out of the three most fucked servants.
Assassin is two of them.
If we are assassin's friend however, we don't have to live in a white, locked room without any trace of shadow, and we'd be in the best position to stick the master with a knife ourselves.
>>
>>23834187
Let's play this carefully; Assassin can be dangerous if we don't handle this carefully. I say we go in for an alliance, but up our defenses as well, and use a faux-servant. QB has to remain a secret or we lose our main advantage.
>>
>>23834187

I'm split on allying with her and killing her. 1-50 kill, 51-100 alliance
>>
>>23834187
Well fuck, thats the one thing I was hoping wouldn't happen. Assuming Assassin spotted us while we were at school, the appearance of faux-Assassin will have tipped her off that we have Caster if she's smart. We should deal with this ASAP.

>[X]Confront Tomoko
>-[x] For an Alliance

I don't like the idea of forcing a fight against the real Assassin right now, but if we leave her alone she might decide to gank us.
>>
>>23834206
Since she has Assassin, summon up a fake Lancer or Archer, make it seem like we have a better Servant for direct confrontation. Confront her and offer a team up, since you would be able to protect her better than a Servant meant for stealth rather than frontal assault. If she says no, give QB the cue to just rain down thousands of Puella down her throat. She will join us or die. Thats the ultimatum with a hero like Assassin.

Oh also ask faux-assassin for more info on real-assassin.
>>
>>23834306
Theres no way for her to know that our Servant was a fake Assassin. For all she knows, it was a fake Rider or Archer. That is, IF she saw our assassin.
>>
>>23834187
[X]Confront Tomoko
-[x]For an alliance

Caster is terrible vs Assassin
Assassin is terrible vs EVERYONE ELSE

Its a prudent measure for both of us until the massive fucktrain that is the Knight classes are dealt with.
>>
>>23834309
At some point we're going to run into a problem with our mana. All theses servants can't be easy to maintain.
>>
>>23834342
Summon a Caster, have her take over a ley line, direct Prana to QB.
>>
>>23834342
We have infinite faux-servants, so sayeth QB. We dont need to keep them all active. We can de-summon one to remove its mana cost and summon one that suits our needs better.
>>
>>23834362
or better idea, take over a leyline ourselves and pump mana into us. because you know, not that i don't trust QB, but I don't trust QB.
>>
>>23834377
Yes, but that doesn't mean they're all going to be equally useful, and we're limited to two re-summons.

I'd wager that the more we keep cycling though QB's summons, the quicker we start dipping into the ones that died to a Witch their first day on the job.
>>
Calling it for allying with Tomoko. how do you want to do this confrontation? With just your Assassin and Caster by your side, or do you want to summon another servant? Or perhaps you want to go swing by the school and pieck up your Saber and leave Assassin there? I'll give you a bit to decide on how to handle this.
>>
I'm for leaving Assassin at the school and going in with only Saber. While Caster works on making a fortress.
>>
>>23834429
We just need to keep the powerful ones to ourselves, ones surrounded by sorrow and grief, like Madoka and assuming the little things when Madokami was flying around, Cleopatra and Joan de Arc and probably Homura.
Also we should ask if we can summon witches, since then we can just pop out Kriemhild Gretchen and Homullily.
>>
>>23834435
I say pick of Saber and drop off Assassin, for two reasons:

1. If it comes down to a fight, I'm going to guess our faux-Assassin won't be able to take on the real Assassin, while a faux-Saber probably could.
2. We shouldn't keep summoning more extra servants if not strictly necessary, at least not until we've got a nice big mana battery set up.
>>
>>23834429

Swap Assassin for Saber. If the deal goes south it would be good to have some muscle on our side. Plus assassin would be more fit to ambush whoever came upon that trap. But leave Caster at home. We can call him with a command seal if need be.
>>
>>23834435
Can we summon witches?

As forout proposed alliance, we probably need to know if our Assassin was spotted. If she was, we could pop up with her and say shes Rider or Archer. If she wasnt, we could either go get Sayaka or summon another puella and claim to have a much better, more combat oriented Servant.
>>
>>23834476
Souls of the Pure EX
Once the spirit has disippated however, only the expenditure of a Command Seal will allow the spirit to be summoned a second time.

This part seems to me that once they're desummoned they're gone for good.
>>
>>23834476
Would unsummoning them count as dissipating them though? Because QB's NP specifies dissipates, not killed.
>>
>>23834514
Has it correct. Desummoning does make them go away forever.
>>
>>23834503
Based on
>She answers, somewhat breathlessly, her brown eyes glancing about the room frantically
I'm going to guess ours was spotted.

Although I don't think trying to bluff it away as a Rider/Archer would do much good, since the whole Presence Concealment thing kinda gives you away as an Assassin once you're spotted.
>>
>>23834577
That depends on if ours has that like the real one. Being a fake Servant, it might not.
>>
>>23834577
What we definitely shouldnt do is reveal that we have Caster. Caster is dicks to Assassin, its pretty much the only class Assassins good against.
>>
>>23834610
I would certainly HOPE it has it, because that single ability is the only reason the Assassin class even exists.

"Alright. Caster, Assassin. We're going. We need to make an alliance with Tomoko before she decides to stab us in the back." You declare.

"Master, I'm rather worried about her Assassin. She spotted me, confronted me about my spying." Assassin answered, somewhat fearful.

"Don't worry, I'm going to have you guarding someplace. I'll take the guard, Saber, with me instead." You reassure her. She nods and lets out a grateful sounding sigh.

-----------

A couple hours later, you're making your way towards the dormitories on campus. You've left Caster a little ways back, just in case Tomoko's Servant could have sensed him. Instead, you're with the blue haired Saber Caster had summoned the other night. She's currently in her spirit form, a soothing presence next to you. You look around at the strangely gothic architecture, some if it strange and jarring next to more modern buildings. It feels like nothing her belongs, like it was rejecteed from everywhere else. Tomoko's dorm is supposedly on the first floor, in the building furthest back. As you approach her door, you can hear two voices chatting animatedly until suddenly they fall quiet. You're about to knock on the door when Saber suddenly materializes next to you, a small knife embedded in her arm.

"Peace! Peace!" You exclaim, holding your hands up as if surrendering. Tomoko's door slams open and she glares at the silver haired young woman tanding across from you and your Saber.

"Neechan! Wait" Tomoko order, her messy black hair obscuring her sleepy looking eyes. The silver haired assassin pauses for a moment, glancing between us warily.

"I can take them, Imouto. I could kill the Master and get you out of her before she could do anything. I could probably even kill her, too." Assassin growled.

"And what about the next pair? And the next? No, Oneechan, we're allying with them! And that's final!" Tomoko declared. With that apparently dealt with, she turns to face you.

Who, the Servant or the girl? Because the girl is actually Japanese.

I do like that she and her Servant seem to have developed a sister-like relationship. Potentially lots of emotional attachment there, easy to exploit and manipulate.
>>
>>23835169
I assumed the girl told her servant to refer to her in that way. Though I do agree that she seems easy to manipulate.

Alright guys, lets get to it!

What we know about the Servant:

-Silver Hair
-Female
-Qualifies for Assassin
-Possibly Japanese, assuming the "Imouto" mannerism wasn't just picked up from her Master.
-The Master is shy, and Servants often have compatible personality types if they were cold-summoned, as seems likely given the Masters apparent inexperience.

Based on that, this would be my first guess. Amusingly, this would actually fit right in with the typical Nasuverse gender-bending of historical figures.
>>
>>23835219
If that's so, we lost right at the get go. OP said whatever Servants we got depended on the master we chose.

Whatever happens to us because of this contract, we're damn well going to exploit everything we have to win, or die fucking everyone over.

Hell, for all we know QB could be like Avenger. If he dies and gets sucked into the grail, he might end up sticking around to grant every wish he can in future grail wars.
