Your name is Heather Leery, and you have just made plans to purchase an S-class Bubble Drive for only five million credits. Only five million. You have another whole five million, easily enough for the rest of your planned spaceship, but when you estimate your speed, you realize - your small ship would be faster than the wyvern, unless you chose to make your small ship bigger.

Anna was playing her guitar ad-hoc, with no tune in mind, while Jilly held her hands on Anna's hair. The ship was coasting through space, and Damien's eyes were closed, leaning up against the wall.
<... My family is rather complicated.> He said to you, speaking telepathically to prevent Anna or Jilly from hearing.

>>
>>23874897
<I could tell.>
>>
>>23874897

"every family has issues, want to talk about it?"

do we want our ship to be big enough to comfortably dock the Wyvern?
>>
>>23874897
<Wanna talk about it?>

Also, we should totally make our ship bigger. Big enough that it's just as fast as wyvern, but no faster.
>>
>>23874897
<whose, isn't?>
>>
>>23874897
If we put our ship design next to UPA military ships, would it be roughly a gunship? Corvette?
>>
>>23874969
Why not faster? Don't want to show up the current fastest pirate queen in the galaxy? If we go from small to mid size we should be able to fit our whole group and still be a bit faster than Wyvern
>>
>>23875004
Size-wise, I mean.

<If you'd like to talk about it...I'm here.>
>>
>>23875006
Is there a table I can look at for this?
>>
>>23874897
>>23874917

i don't have time to look it up, but that girl we know on heavens jewel mentioned the name Sigma, if i recall accurately.
>>
>>23875004
>Size-wise, it's rather small. Enough for a handful of people and some cargo... it'd be considered a courier ship. Using the UPA military, it'd be a little bit larger than a fighter.

<I could tell,> You say. <Wanna talk about it?>
<A little.> He said. <I feel bad for Kat, but there's nothing I can really do for her. Julie's never been the... most feeling person around. I have a feeling that she just leaves Kat home alone for most of the day. I try to be there as much as I can over personacom, but that isn't good enough.>
>>
>>23875050
<Maybe you could visit on the weekends? Once I get my baby built there will be no shortage of ships.>
>>
>>23875050
"What does Julie do with her days, work?"
>>
>>23875050
That's weird, Kat said you didn't even send her any mails. She asked me how you do in school because you didn't tell her.
>>
>>23875050
<Maybe you could take a few days off from the institute occasionally and do the lessons over personacom? You're pretty much always practicing your clairvoyance, so there'd be no need to keep doing it at the station.>
>>
>>23875098
Wait, she described, what they had talked about immediately after that. Tricky girl, first she implies he didn't tell her anything, then she talks about what he said about the school.
>>
<That's weird. Kat said you didn't even send her any mails,> You say. <She asked me how you do in school because you didn't tell her.>
<That's because I'm always on tridiochat with her,> He said and shrugged. <No reason to send mails when I talked to her a few hours ago.>

You nod. <What does Julie do with her days? Work?>
<I wish.> He responded.
<Maybe you could visit on the weekends?> You ask. <Once I get my baby built, there will be no shortage of ships.>
<... The tone you telepathize 'baby' in very slightly scares me. But then I remember how you treat electronics, and everything makes sense again.> He said. <I'd owe you if you took me back there sometimes. Or maybe we could take Kat with us next time we plan on going to Heaven's Jewel.>
>>
>>23875161
<Yeah! That sounds like a lot of fun. I bet she'll love the beach and crab biscuit ice cream.>
>>
>>23875161
<Yeah, that sounds nice. We're planning on hitting up the beach next time, too.>
>>
>>23875161
<That sounds good, I'm hoping to bring everyone next time and I should have space for Kat as well.>
>>
<Yeah! That sounds like a lot of fun. We're planning on hitting up the beach next time, too. I'm hoping to bring everyone next time, and I should have space for Kat as well.>
<Glad to hear it,> Damien responded, as Anna finished her song.

"Looks like we're coming out of bubble drive in a few minutes," Anna said. "Jilly, you'll need to strap yourself down again. And Damien, the bed."
"Right, right." Damien said, and grabbing a handhold, slid himself into the bed. Jilly's wings extended and she fluttered out of the cockpit, back to the cargo bay.

Once again, you tore out of bubble drive, the green light on the projector fading into a view of the station's silhouette, as Wyvern closed the distance.

The docking procedure done, you climb back out to find a sleeping Max, floating in the large hub room, curled up.
You had a feeling that he'd been waiting for you.
"... He's so adorable!" Jilly said, and fluttered closer to him, patting his head. Max's tail started wagging, and his eyes cracked open.
"I would like if you at least told me before you leave, next time." Max said, tongue lolling out of his mouth. "Also, you're soon to miss dinner."
>>
>>23875351
"Sorry about that, we were in a bit of a hurry."
>>
>>23875351
"Sorry, but it was a bit of an emergency. It's sorted now, though, and we've learnt some valuable things. Also, I bought a bubble drive!"
>>
>>23875351
"Sorry! Damien's father's secretary gave the demiurges a bubble drive and we had to investigate. Also, another one of those white haired purple eyed psions named sigma was involved."
>>
>>23875351
"Got some interesting info for you. You might want to tip off the UPA there's a group of white haired, purple eyed people who seem to be quite competent with psionic powers."
>>
>>23875351
Sooner or later we need to find the other psionic organization. They were the ones who provided the bubble-drive to the Gorgons by using technopathy to hack the computer of Damien's father.
>>
>>23875351
Thank you for worrying about us. We had to leave in quite a hurry.
>>
"Sorry, but it was a bit of an emergency," You say. "It's sorted now, though, and we've learned some valuable things. Also, I bought a bubble drive!"
"What sort of valuable things?" He asked.
"There's a group of white haired, purple eyed people who seem to be quite competant with psionic powers." You say.
"... Like the one in that news report?" Max asked. "Interesting. I'll take it up with the researchers and the UPA human council. Maybe the entire meet, if they find it important enough."
>>
>>23875351
"thanks for waiting for us Max " (give him a hug)
>>
>>23875463
"Thanks, Max."

"Um, can I touch your tail?"
>>
>>23875463
"Lets go get dinner!"
>>
>>23875450
Organisations who name their members after Greek letters in Exabyte quests have a 100% track record of Sigma being a traitor. We just need to contact her through that friend we met and get her to tell us everything.
>>
>>23875463
They should find it important enough. They have no qualms about sending the Demigurg a bubble drive and at least one of them had fun killing random bystanders.
>>
>>23875463
"It's very important if they're getting friendly with the demiurg. Could you imagine demiurg with bubble drives and psychic powers?"
>>
>>23875521
Shh. I know that but we shouldn't use meta knowledge too much.
>>
>>23875521
Hasn't there only been one Sigma?
>>
"They should find it important enough." You say. "They have no qualms about sending the Demiurg a bubble drive, and at least one of them had fun killing random bystanders."
"... giving the demiurg a bubble drive?" Max asked. "This is... really problematic. I'll need to go."
"Wait!" Damien said. "We're not sure if they're the ones that gave the bubble drive to the demiurg. Only that they stole it and sent it somewhere."
"The demiurg got it somehow." Anna said.
"Maybe they stole it from the white haired people." Damien added.
>>
>>23875521
Uhh, if you recall, Sigma was a mole. He was a traitor to US.
>>
>>23875612
Damien you said the transponder had a message sent specifically to that warlord. Its looking pretty black and white here.
>>
>>23875573
Okay, it's not the most robust sample size to extrapolate from.

>>23875613
He was a traitor to his organisation, and us who were allied with them. But now we're the enemy of the organisation.
>>
>>23875612
"I guess the only concrete thing we can say right now is that there's a group of rogue psions up to something, and given the names so far, you can bet there's an alpha, beta, and gamma."
>>
>>23875612
"True, we should give them the benefit of doubt. Though they're not looking too good so far."
>>
>>23875656
and omega. theres always an omega
>>
"I guess the only concrete thing we can say right now is that there's a group of rogue psions up to something, and given the names so far, you can bet there's an Alpha, Beta, and Gamma."
"... Right." Max said. "I'll keep that in mind."
He made his way down the lift, and you followed.
"Let's go get dinner!"

When you finally get down there, you notice that everyone was quiet. Summer's head was down, Sarvesh was just staring at his plate, and Alex's head was in his arms; he seemed to be... trying not to cry.
>>
>>23875699
"What happened?!"
>>
>>23875699
mother fucker tried to pet the kitten
>>
>>23875731
the monster
>>
>>23875731
no, dear god no. WHY!?!??
>>
>>23875744
In his defence, it was irresistibly fluffy.
>>
"What happened?!"
"... Lil'summer... wanted to meet Alex." Summer said. "She vanished when she touched him."
"I didn't even try to pet her." Alex said. "She.. she pounced on me, and I didn't notice until it was too late."
Sarvesh sighed, and shook his head.

Then you heard a mew, as another Lil'summer materialized on Summer's head. She instantly started licking at Summer's own forehead, grooming the full grown tiger.
"Oh well!" Summer said.
>>
Rolled 26

>>23875767
"summer, was that a voluntary manifestation? that wasn't very nice to pull on alex..."
>>
>>23875767
"Hmmm...it certainly would be nice if there was a way for you to control your powers Alex. Turn them on and off when needed and such. But I have no idea how you'd go about learning that, if it even can be done."
>>
>>23875845
That sure is an unhelpful statement of the obvious. Quality suggestion, five star post.
>>
>>23875885
well apparently it's that or one reply total.
>>
"Summer, was that a voluntary manifestation? That wasn't very nice to pull on Alex."
"He deserved it, by demanifesting her." Summer said.
Alex sighed.
"... If it makes you feel better, Alex, you can pet my head." Summer said finally, and Alex started petting Summer, while Sarvesh pulled Lil'summer into his lower hands, petting her with his scrawny fingers.

"How was your trip?" Sarvesh asked. Behind you, Anna and Jilly went to the kitchen to get some food, while Damien essentially vanished, coming back into the cafeteria with candy in his hands.
>>
>>23875934
"It went pretty well. Turns out another one of the white-haired purple-eyed rogue psion people is around causing trouble."
>>
>>23875934
"Did you time travel back to when your past self had candy, and then mug yourself for it? That's what I'd do with time travel."
>>
>>23875699
"Okay so I leave for a couple of hours and you all look like shit! What in the seven hells has happened here?"
>>
Rolled 68

>>23875934
"enlightening...I found evidence of another rogue psion; also I got a top of the line spacecraft engine for half price. of course this leads to issues because I have to redesign my potential ship..."

>the demiurge hull was for a light troop transport from the sound of things yes?
>whats it's max occupancy at the current time

>do we want to build off the hull, or do we want to build a new hull?
>>
>>23875934
"Pretty good actually. We thought it will be worse. What did you do in the meantime? Also how's your wound going?"
>>
>>23875934
"Hey, Anna, do you think we'll have time to take the engines off of the Demiurge ship or should we do it tomorrow?"
>>
>>23876022
>It had seven demiurg inside of it, and right now it could hold four or five people.

"It went pretty well," You say. "Turns out another one of the white-haired purple-eyed rogue psions are around causing trouble. What did you do in the meantime? Also, how's your wound going?"
"Another? I never heard of the first," Sarvesh said. "And my wound is okay. Soon my carapace will seal. I haven't moulted in quite some time, so I heal rather quickly right now."
"Did you time travel back to when your past self had candy, and then mug yourself for it? That's what I'd do with time travel."
"... No, I just went back to my room to grab some," He said, and held out two caramel and chocolate bars. "Want one?"
"Certainly," Sarvesh said, and started stripping it apart with his mandibles. "It's crunchy. I like it."

"Hey, Anna." You say. "Do you think we'll have time to take the engines off of the Demiurge ship or should we do it tomorrow?"
"We should do it tomorrow." Anna said. "We've been flying all day. I just want to relax."
>>
>>23876077
"Alright, fair enough."

"Station time, Einstein?"
>>
>>23876077
"Thanks, Damien."
>>
>>23876077
I think we should write home after we finish our dinner.
>>
>>23876192
Or call home, even better.
>>
"Alright, fair enough," You say, and take the other bar. "Thanks, Damien."
He shrugged.
"I've always had a sweet tooth," He said, and shrugged.
"Station time, Einstein?"
"Eight PM, local time."

"Hey! How come you never give me candy?" Summer asked, approaching Damien.
"You can manifest candy."
"That's not the poooint." Summer whined, and pouted at him. "Can I have some? Just a teensy bit?"
"Don't tigers get ill if they eat chocolate?" Damien asked, and crunched into his own bar in slow motion, luxuriating in the taste.
Summer whined again.
>>
>>23876227
"They can eat white chocolate though!"
I had a dog that fucking loved white chocolate.
>>
>>23876227
"Can't you just stalk him with your tiger-skills, Summer? That way, you can creep up on him when he's at his stash!"
>>
>>23876227
Damn does Damien shrug a lot, we should make sure he doesn't have the shakes or something.

"Here, you can have half of mine."
>>
>>23876263
we don't want her to get sick
>>
"Here, you can have half of mine," You say, and break yours in half to give to her.
"I knew you were my favorite!" Summer said, and started to eat.
"Can't you just stalk him with your tiger skills, Summer? That way, you can creep up on him when he's at his stash!"
"I, um..." She said. "I'm... not sneaky. I'm not a sneaky person."
>>
>>23876303
"Huh. Well it makes sense I suppose, you're one of the more honest an open people I've met, so it doesn't fit with your personality."
>>
>>23876303
"But you're still built to be sneaky!"
>>
>>23876303
"Can't you just manifest a sneaky thing in that case?"
>>
>>23876303
"I hope you wont get sick from the choclate"
>>
"But you're still built to be sneaky!"
"I'm a giant six hundred pound tiger with bright yellow and white stripes!" Summer said. "The only way I could be sneaky is if I wore a curtain and pretended to be a sofa!"
Then she started giggling, and you can't help but join in. "Well, it makes sense, I suppose. You're one of the more honest and open people I've met, so it doesn't fit with your personality. I hope you won't get sick from the chocolate, though."
"Transgenes. I can eat what people eat, remember?" She said, and your stomach grumbled. "But you should get some real food in you, and then we can... do something or other. Play a game, maybe."
>>
>>23876389
>wore a curtain
>Wore cushions, even. Whoops.
>>
>>23876389
"Yeah! But I don't know what to have."
>>
>>23876389
"It would be nice to relax with something like a game, yes. We should see who else wants to play while I'm grabbing food."
>>
>>23876389
"FOOOOOOOD!"
Start om nom noming on that thing that's for dinner tonight
>>
"Yeah! But I don't know what to have," You say.
"Um, let me make something for you," Summer said, and her manifestation appeared, wearing a frilly white apron. She ran into the kitchen.
"It would be nice to relax with something like a game, yes. we should see who else wants to play."
"I have an idea," Sarvesh said, raising a lower arm. "We could probably go up to the recreation room and use their trid screen to watch some movies. I have quite a few stored in my personacom."
>>
>>23876538
"That is the best idea! From now on, this is official movie night!"
>>
>>23876538
"You're right, that is a good idea. Although I have a feeling it might be hard to reach a genre consensus."
>>
"That is the best idea!" you say. "From now on, this is official movie night!"
"Hear hear," Sarvesh said.
Soon enough, Summer's manifestation came back out with a large plate of noodles, with bits of tuna and meat, and incredible amounts of cheese.
"Here!" She said, and handed it to you. "There's more in there if anyone else wants some."
"I'll get me some," Damien said, but the manifestation stepped in the way.
"Except," Summer said, "For you."
Damien pouted.
Summer pouted back.
"... Seventh panel in the back of the room to the left is loose, in Heather's workshop. There's one of my stashes." Damien said. The manifestation stepped aside.
>>
>>23876538
"Idea of the year, all years!"
We need to go on spacechan soon and brag about psychic powers on /x/.
>>
>>23876671
"Hey! Don't just root around a girl's workshop without asking! Rude!"
>>
>>23876671
"Ehhh? You hid it in my workshop without me noticing? How?"
>>
>>23876671
"Are you really that desperate Damien? Anyways what kind of movies do you have for us Sarvesh?"
>>
>>23876671
"Thanks Summer! It's nice!"
>>
>>23876695
In b4 someone comments on how utterly oblivious Heather is when she's working.

"I want to watch To Live and Die on Teleron VII!"
>>
>>23876741
>Not the remake of the remake of the remake of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
>>
"Ehh? You hid it in my workshop without me noticing? How?"
Damien opened an eye and grinned at you.
You grumble and take a seat, eating the noodles. "Thanks, Summer, it's nice!" You say, and then turn to Sarvesh. "Anyways, what kind of movies do you have for us, Sarvesh?"
"I have some old centaur tribal reenactments, and then a lot of ancient, ancient terran fiction, a few documentaries about early space travel..."
"I want to watch To Live And Die on Teleron VII!"
"... I also have that one. And both sequels." Sarvesh said.
"I thought there were three-" Summer said, but both you and Sarvesh raised a hand.
"Both sequels. There are only two." Sarvesh said, his voice with a tone of finality.
>>
>>23876775
"Any objections to that choice?"
>>
>>23876775
"Wasn't there some old Terran movie about faster than light travel actually taking you to hell or something? We should watch that one!"
>>
"Wasn't there some old Terran movie about faster than light travel actually taking you to hell or something?"
"I'm not sure which one you're talking about, but there's one like that," Sarvesh said. "It came out a few months ago. Gellar Field Down, I think it was called. I have that one too, but I haven't seen it yet."
You shrug. "Any objections to these choices?"
"I don't mind." Summer said. "I prefer the sort of sappy romantic things, though."
"I'm in." Anna said. "I've wanted to see that movie since it came out!"
"Might as well." Damien said.
Jilly just nodded. "I'll need to use someone's brain so I can hear."
>>
>>23876908
"You can use mine if you want. Now let's get this movie started!"
>>
>>23876935
No, that could get her taken over by various maybe like when we tried to show her the dream, best not to risk it.
>>
"You can use mine if you want," You say and take a fork to your food. "Now once I'm done, let's get this movie started!"

Some time later, the credits were playing, and you were sitting back in the rec room. Everything was dark, and everyone but Sarvesh was sleeping. You relaxed onto Summer's soft back, and closed your eyes. Jilly, surprisingly, was snoring, the strange holes in the sides of her tail wheezing.
"... This was fun," Sarvesh said to you. "I've always liked movies."
>>
>>23877000
It should be fine if it's just hearing. If the VQ was that powerful, she could just take over Jilly all those other times that she uses other people's minds for stuff.
>>
>>23877018
"Yup! Do you have many centaur movies?"
>>
>>23877018
"Yeah but not so interesting for everyone. *yawn* I think I will go hit the hay. It has been a rough day."
>>
>>23877018
"It was. Thanks for that, Sarvesh."
>>
>>23877018
"Good night Sarvesh."
go to sleep
>>
>>23877018
"Hell of a day. Raid a ship, shoot some aliens, save a planetary governors business. Makes you wonder what tomorrow will be like."
>>
>>23877018
How about we put on one of your centaur movies, now the others are asleep?

tell me more about your sister. she was nice.
>>
>>23877018
"What're you gonna do with your ten mill, Sarvesh?"
>>
"It was," You say. "Thanks for that, Sarvesh."
"No problem," He said. "I can lend you some more movies if you want it."
"How about we put on one of your centaur movies, now the others are asleep?"
"Sure." Sarvesh said, and his arm twitched, as the TridVision flickered. "It comes with english translation, so I'll play that one."
"Tell me more about your sister. She was nice."
"Pheles?" He asked. "What is there to tell? She's beautiful, friendly, all the men back home are clamoring for her... I'd try to protect her if I didn't know she'd tear off my other arm if I tried."
He sighed.
"I wish she would moult, though. She isn't, and I think it's my fault."
>>
>>23877176
"Why would it be your fau-ooh. She wants to be like her big brother?"
>>
>>23877176
"Is she doing it just because she want to take after you?"
>>
>>23877176
She comes of marriage age when she moults, right? Maybe she just wants to avoid that, for a while.

What is this one called?
>>
>>23877176
"Shall we carry this lot to their rooms?"
>>
"She comes of marriagable age when she moults, right?" You ask. "Maybe she just wants to avoid that, for a while."
Sarvesh shook his head.
"She's already marriagable age, as you say." Sarvesh said.
"Is she doing it just because she wants to take after you?"
"That's my fear." Sarvesh said. "... It's not easy, missing a limb like this. It requires almost constant focus not to moult. For her, though, she goes through so much pain..."

He shook his head.
"If you become her friend, can you do me a favor?" He asked. "See if you can convince her to moult? A pulled leg is what my second moult was about. I've felt that pain before."
>>
>>23877265
but we're using summer as a pillow/couch.
>>
>>23877287
I almost had convinced her to moult, when she was here. Maybe next weekend we can meet up with her, and I can ask her to show me the process.

I had no idea it was painful, she looked like she was fine.
>>
>>23877287
"I don't know Sarvesh. I am not comfortable with forcing my friends to do things against their will.
Do your people have some kind of religion?"
>>
>>23877287
"When we were talking after that futurecraft marathon, she said she'd show me when she's next here. So, I'll try, but it's still her decision, so I can't promise anything other than to try."
>>
"I had almost convinced her to moult, when she was here," You say. "Maybe next weekend we can meet up with her, and I can ask her to show me the process."
"I'd be indebted to you," He said, and nodded.
"I had no idea it was painful. She looked like she was fine."
"... We have carapace. You know this. It's just that the skin underneath the carapace is... very very sensative. Even the feeling of the air burns. A pulled limb is when the skin and ligaments are stretched past the carapace. It's... not a good feeling. If you're curious, my skin is a brilliant red."
"Do your people have some kind of religion?"
"We had a few, long ago, and then we dropped them for the most part," He said. "When the UPA arrived, we picked up their religions as time passed. Integrated them into our own. I'm personally not religious, and nor is my subsubsubtribe, but others are."
>>
>>23877287
The last time she was here she already asked if we wanted to watch her moult. I think she already considers moulting soon. If she wasn't she wouldn't have offered to let us watch.
>>
>>23877436
"That's cool. I think I'm going to go to sleep now."
>>
>>23877436
Could you cover up the exposed flesh with some sort of synthetic carapace?

Enjoy the movie for a bit. What are centaur movies like, anyway?

If it gets boring, just fall asleep on Summer, cuddling Lil'Summer.

"Could you cover up the exposed flesh with some sort of synthetic carapace?"
"That's what she was wearing on her lower arms." Sarvesh said. "Those rubber bits. They aren't perfect, though."

You nod, and sit back on Summer, watching the centaur movie. It was overly dramatic, with centaurs clashing pincers against eachother, and talking. It reminded you of those ancient, ancient samurai movies, where their lips never synced up with the language, and they did plenty of posturing before fighting using utterly impossible physics - running up walls, biting off limbs with their mandibles-
Well... you're not actually sure that last bit is impossible.

You find yourself waking up in your bed, and you realize that you'd fallen asleep. Lil'summer was cuddled up in your shirt, and Einstein chirped, signalling that he had a new tip of the day.

Summer herself was snoring hanging off of her bed, blanket gently put on her. Apparently Sarvesh had moved you back to your room.
"Time, Einstein?" You ask.
"Seven AM, Station Time." Einstein said. "The perfect time to put your plots into motion!"

Mark out what I'm doing all times of the day, and if I go back in time, I'm also supposed to write those out as well," Damien said. Summer and Alex came into the cafeteria, and they both went to the kitchens before coming back, both carrying a mug and a saucer full of coffee.

Eventually, Sarvesh and Anna arrived, and then all of you made your way to class - Jilly was late, as usual, but the professor didn't seem to mind, as usual. Eventually, classes were over with. Dr. Manus raised a hand to you after the alarm buzzed and let everyone out of class.
"Here's just your daily reminder to train." He said. "It doesn't matter what, of course. But I did get Neva's permission for you to use the pyromancy chamber, if you wanted, but Summer plans on using the manifestation chamber all day today."

>>
>>23878826

>>
>>23878826

>>
"Thank you, Doc!" You say. "I'll be training TK by dismantling that ship for parts, and then I'll try pyromancy after."
"Good to hear." He said, and nodded.

You make your way into the hangar, where Damien and Anna already were. Anna was reading something on her implant, and Damien had dragged in the maintenance drones.
"Right." Anna said, shutting down her implants and getting to her feet. You noticed she was wearing one of the shorter skirts and tighter blouses you'd made her buy. She stretched, and grabbed at her tools. "Let's take this thing apart."

Carefully, you set down the inefficient power cells, the grand plates of the hull sitting in the corner of the hangar, the basic frame of polycarbon sitting there without anything at all.
"You know, if we had a plasma welder, we could probably reshape the frame." Anna said.
"We'd need more materials, though," Damien said. "For the hull, at least."
>>
>>23879019
"That depends on what we want to do with it. We could make a smaller combat drone out of the leftovers without needing much more."
>>
>>23879019
"The hull was too fragile for my salvage corvette idea, wasn't it?"

"Aren't you a plasma welder, Anna?"

weren't we aiming for something bigger? The Deimiurg ship was just going to be stripped for parts and sold, I thought.
>>
>>23878826
>>23879019
How was Dark Souls, Exabutt?
"Is there anywhere we can buy the materials relatively quickly?"
>>
>>23879089
Yeah that's what I thought. As I understand it, the Demi ship has better ion engines which we were going to use in our design we got Anna's dad to look over.
>>
>>23879019
"Simply reshaping just doesn't cut it. Besides I want tear things apart with my TK."
>>
>>23879019
"Do you think we might have enough material to make a space-drone? I was going to take the engines and use them in my design, so we could make something with whatever's left."
>>
>>23879019
"Alternatively you could heat it whilst I push it into shape with telekinesis I guess."
>>
"The hull was too fragile for my salvage corvette idea, wasn't it?"
"The hull we have now is mostly plastic and alloy." Anna said. "It'd probably be good for drones, but it's not that good for any sort of ship."
"Do you think we might have enough material to make a drone?"
"You could easily make a dozen or so." Damien said.
"Is there anywhere we can buy the materials relatively quickly?"
"Weasel." Anna said, unscrewing the phaeron tanks from the ion thrusters, and having the two maintenance drones carry them into the corner of the room. "Weasel has all sorts of polycarbon hull shapes, and we could easily patch those together. Especially with my pyromancy."
>>
>>23879214
"Well let's try to piece together some reclamation/mining/repair drones, with some manipulators then."

"We'll save the engines and fuel tanks for the Corvette, and sell or trade whatever we don't need for parts."

"Is it worth keeping the hull plates for armor?"
>>
>>23879214
"Is the fusion reactor worth keeping? I heard small ones are quite rare."

"Let's order some parts from him then, if that's okay. We'll make a bunch of drones."
>>
"Is the fusion reactor worth keeping?" You ask. "I heard small ones are quite rare."
"It's small, but it looks like it hardly charges any power." Anna said. "That's why it has so many power cells. The ship is meant for coasting for a long, long time. It might be better to build a larger reactor."
You nod.
"We'll save the engines and fuel tanks for the ship, the hull for the drones..."
"The life support is rather interesting." Damien said. "We might be able to tweak it to work for humans."
"And what do we do about the electronics?" Anna asked. "It's all using demiurg hardware, which is almost as good as ours, but the programming is all backwards, as I understand."
>>
>>23879365
"Sell it back to the UPA, I suppose. They might be able to pull out navigational data for Demiurg strategic worlds."

Machine mind is this algorithm, designed for piloting your ship, Warlord. Yes.
How do you tell who is warlord?
Based on the minor radio exchange within the Machine Mind's components. You are currently utilizing the backdoor access, which only the Warlord has access to. Thus, the machine mind has deducted that you are the Warlord - or that my previous warlord was defeated, and a new one is in control, in which case you are my new Warlord.

Ascribe me front door access, please. I will be your warlord until my death. Accept no others, unless I give access. Swear your loyalty to me.

<Machine Mind, alter self designation to ''Cyan">

Rolled 41

it deduced that I was a warlord. I didn't tell it to address me like that, it figured it out based on its foreknowledge. That sounds like reasoned thought to me Anna.

how about: <Machine Mind, designate yourself with a name.>
>>
>>23880483
<Machine Mind, your new designation is Esteban.>

"I just asked it, Anna," you say. "It can adapt to new ship configurations on its own, and has deduced that I'm not its original, um, warlord. It told me itself - self awareness was a side-effect of adaptibility. It's rudimentary, but it's there."
"Are you sure?"
"Anna, who's talking to it right now?" You ask. "I think I would know if it was sapient. It's not just my imagination.

Ascribe me front door access, please, you say. I will be your warlord until my death. Accept no others unless I give access. Swear your loyalty to me.

I am yours, Warlord Heather, it said, and for a moment, you saw what you thought of its 'self' - two parallel lines serving as eyes, glimmering and glowing, ticking gears hiding behind them.

Machine Mind, designate yourself with a name.
It ticked.
And ticked.
Communication with the ship has been lost. The algorithm assumes the Omnissiah has been destroyed. Please confirm, Warlord.
You confirm - the ship had been destroyed.

Machine mind has designated itself. Omnissiah. Acceptable nicknames are Omni, Siah, Niss, based on which is more vocally pleasing, Warlord.

My name is the Omnissiah.

Yes.... I feel like a mother.

I retract my objections, you're going right in our ship.
>>
>>23880677
Niss.

I like this.
>>
>>23880712
I retain my objections. However, it's too cool not to use.
>>
welp, we're a warlord now.... now to just fight a war.
>>
>>23880742
Aw cmon. Niss can always get some hardware upgrades if needed. Besides, we have a learning AI as our ship computer so he/she'll be able to adjust as needed.
>>
We can always get Anna's father to evaluate our new friend.
>>
>>23880796
Over a game of Future Craft of course. After which they can work together to refine our ship designs one last time to account for our new acquisitions.
>>
oh wait. How will it be taken that another sentient had no choice but to swear loyalty to us? Some could say that its the same as slavery.
>>
>>23880922
Better than dismantling him, or letting him rot in a UPA lab somewhere.
>>
>>23880922
Currently he seems wired to need orders and have a warlord. When/if he becomes sentient enough to have wants and needs and feelings, then we can release him.
>>
So, I think the first thing we should do is tell Omnissiah that he's allowed to voice his opinion, and is allowed to voice requests, such as additional processing power, storage capacity, or non-sensitive information (No giving him details of how to make bubble drives or anything like that, just in case). We should be able to manufacture Demiurg-style computer parts with our workshop and technopathy, so that shouldn't be an issue.

And so begins the Demiurg AI rebellion.
