Alex Hanger, you are taking your final test to determine if you are made of the right stuff to serve in the Imperial Legions as a Demi Pilot. Facing off against Vortez and Melon, melee and mid-ranged specialists respectively, the battle seems like it is already lost for you and Twist, a sniper and a support specialist respectively.

However, you have come up with a quick but clever plan, using Twist's jamming abilities to confuse them and lead them into an ambush with your rifle and your partner's slow but powerful fists.

Twist activates his jammers and you both change position quickly, Twist ducking down behind a nearby building and you trying to move to another without collapsing it. I need a Body Roll.

I'll take the first three rolls, 60+ is a success.

You manage to carefully move from building to building, hunkering down low to avoid detection. The iron clad form of a light and agile Demi, the bladed war machine under the command of Vortez, darts down the street, keeping low to the ground. She skids to a stop near you, her Demi in an almost animalistic stance as it scans the area. "Come out, come out, wherever you are..." She sings, her voice echoing out from the speakers on her Demi. "I'll make it quick. Even let you put on a good show so you have a chance at passing!"
>>
>>23881477
I don't like those rolls...
>>
>>23881423
Yup. Under 'Demi Quest II Thread 1'. Demi Quest I and II are my last attempt at running this like a year ago. I figured out I was actually really bad at running Quests after the second thread. I think I am doing better though.
>>
>>23881477
Uh, do we need to roll?
>>
>>23881477
Her machine clicks and hisses as she moves forward slowely, seeking prey. From your vantage point you see she is moving closer to Twist, the claws on her right arm slowely extending. Damnit, she knows where he is. She's a close combat specialist, and he probably will not be able to take her on.

What do you do?
>>
>>23881537
Sorry, was seeing what she rolled on her Perception test.
>>

>>
>>23881551
Wait until she's close to twist, then snipe. Even if we miss, it should give us the distraction we need for Twist to put those giant arms to good use.
>>
>>23881551
Disable her of course! Leg or claws are main target
>>
>>23881574

Agreed. Let her get almost on top of him, then hit her. Even if her Demi isn't completely disabled, it'll become a much more even fight between her and Twist.
>>

Can we Inform Twist without her hearing us?
>>
Rolled 61, 36, 21, 39, 80, 59, 11 = 307

The lithe form of her Demi slips foreward, catlike in it's movements as it silently hops up. It grasps the top of the building and climbs up on it, moving to the edge and readieing to pounce down on him. The thunk of your rifle echoes out as the round slips into her place, and she jerks up, head spinning around. Her dark red visor locks onto first your Demi's face, then it's rifle.

Roll me Ranged! +1 for Sniper, +1 for 098's calculations.

Your rifle's shot rings out, echoing through the arena even as Vortez leaps to the side. Your shot is off, but it tags her leg, sending her spinning. She bounces off the roof and hits the ground, scrambling to her feet as Twist steps out and draws his arm back for a powerful swing, smoke pouring out of his back-rig.

The heavy punch connects solidly, sending Vortez spinning and stumbling. She barely manages to stay on her feet. "Damnit! Alright you sneaky pricks, come and- what the hell?" The smoke has filled the lane Twist and Vortez were fighting in, and Twist has fallen back, dissapearing. Vortez turns her attention to you, and darts at you. She snaps side to side, and leaps up, spinning in the air and coming down at you with her claws.

Uh. Vortez and Melon were the only two targets. You downed Vortez with a shot to the legs with both shotguns, and you THINK you just downed Melon with a rifle shot.
>>
>>23883337

Then another round to a limb. If they don't move, they must be down for the count.
>>
Rolled 24

>>23883318
There is no other target. Have Twist give us a damage report, and if he can, he does it, we'll cover him.
>>
>>23883337
In that case get Twist to punch them until they're down.
>>
Have twist check her out we dont want to hurt her or damage her machine more than the test requires line up a bead and weight.
>>
>>23883377

If this a field test, we should do what the appropriate action would be in the field of battle.

I believe that should be another round, but if you are opposed, I will lend support to Twist giving confirmation of the kill.
>>
>>23883326
>>23883327
>>23883336
You order Twist to move in and confirm. "Got it." He says. He moves foreward, slowely. After a moment her calls out. "Confirmed, blew out the hips with that shot. Nice work. Commander Zagurat, confirming both members of Red team are down." He radios in.

At least we aren't down.
>>

We really really need to learn to watch our radar more closely it seems.
>>
>>23883489

Well, several of us wanted to continue searching for targets. We were told this was unnecessary.
>>

Vortez confirmed for having GM-manipulating powers.

Rolled 14, 40, 30, 74, 10 = 168

From behind you, a long blade slashes low, taking your left leg out from under you. You hit the ground hard, swinging your arms up as fast as you can.

Are you a quick enough shot to take down Vortez before you can dissapear? Ranged roll, 5 dice, no bonus from 098 who got knocked about when you hit the ground.

Yes. Every success you get more than the target you do one point of damage.

Shouldn't we have noticed her movement on our radar though?

Your shot scrapes her chest as she darts away. You're back on your feet, eyes on your radar. "She's moving away slowely, looks like she's dragging her legs." Twist feeds you coordinates as his little blip on the screen slowely moves around to the side.

Ranged Roll! 5 dice, +1 for 098 recovering.

We could just use our radio and tell Vortez to surrender.

She's in a crippled melee-only Demi.

We can stand back and take potshots at her all day until we win. All she's going to achieve now is getting her Demi damaged further.
>>
>>23883794

Considering our luck, I would not surrender if I were her.
>>
>>23883765
And you were right. This is why non-lethal live-fire sucks (Could have hit them in,the chest easily). Also, fuck /tg/ dice, amirite?
>>

She did take out our legs, so she's still able to fight.
>>
>>23883808
We don't really need luck though. We are faster than her in her current state, and she has no guns.

We can just keep trying.
>>
>>23883829
Oh right, I forgot we're legless too.
>>
>>23883812

It has been a rough night.

I will make sacrifice to Fortuna on the morrow.
>>
>>23883734
Okay fine. I'll only point out that its actually impossible for her with starting XP to have more than 6 hits unless she puts every single point possible into damage, and agile doesn't actually make you more vulnerable to damage.
>>
>>23883746
Vortez slips out of the way, darting under and between buildings. However, with the smoke cleared, and both of you hunting her, you manage to corner her and blow off one arm. She's down and out, and swearing up a storm. "Confirmed, Red Team is down. Excellent work, Blue Team. Report to the church in the center of town for evaluation." Commander Zagurat orders. "And bring Red Team."

Anything to say to anyone as you collect them and get a move on?
>>
>>23883877

>>
>>23883893
No, Melon just needs more training. Keep up with formalities.
>>
>>23883893
Melon doesn't need to work on her aim any more than the rest of us do. She's clearly crowd control, which meant that this small group combat was a bad fit for her.
>>
You scoop up the crippled Vortez as Twist collects Melon. "Red Team, you fought well, as the damage to my Demi can attest! Well done! I would be proud to fight alongside you for the Empire." You cheer, pleased with yourself and the battle fought. You turn to your comrade in arms. "Twist, victory is owed to you on this day. Your support was invaluable, a fact anyone should be able to see. You can rest easy." You assure him

"Yeah, I'm excited. I was terrified of this, but I'm not half bad!" He cheers. You both haul Red Team to the church, where Zagurat is waiting. She nods to you as the cockpits open, and you climb out. In just a few moments, all four pilots are standing before the commander, saluting.

"Excellent work, all of you. A battle well fought, and well won. Red Team, you fought valiantly, Melon you're tactics were carefully thought out and well executed. Vortez, your tenacity and skill are to be applauded, and if this was a real battle, I would applaud your drive to get the mission done." She looks to you and Twist.

"Against odds that would terrify any team, you used superior tactics to win the day. Twist, your use of your jammers and radar were brilliant, and though you use of smoke was heavy-handed, it was used to great effect. Hanger, your leadership skills and pinpoint precision were both excellent, and I would be pleased to watch you rise in the coming years."

She looks over you all. "I declare you all having passed, some by the skin of your teeth, but none the less, a success well earned. You will be stationed here as a temporary squad for the coming weeks, untill you can be transported to your assigned Legions. Welcome, all of you, you now hold the pride of being able to call yourselves the true elites of the Imperial war machines. Demi Pilots." She gives a sharp salute.

You salute back, and are dismissed to haul the damaged machines home. WHat do? Make conversation? Just head back?
>>
>>23884197
Make conversation. May as well get to know the people we'll be spending the next few weeks.
>>
>>23884216

" My friends, the least I could do is offer you all drinks, be it for aid sorely needed or a battle sorely fought. Let us head to the mess, and its on me."
>>
>>23884231
Are we even allowed to drink? I don't know what Empire military policy is on this sort of thing.
>>
>>23884197
...Wait, who's in charge of the squad?
>>
>>23884255
No-one yet. I'm assuming we're all under Zagurat's command.
>>
>>23884247

If alcohol is not allowed, that is disappointing, but we must be thirsty regardless. The point of the notion is in the sentiment.
>>
>>23884269
Well yeah, but if we are the only ones in the squad there probably should be a leader.
>>
>>23884255
Presumably that would be Zagurat. You're only a temporary squad, so noone specifically is going to be the proper leader.
>>
>>23884300
Really? At least in the modern military they'd chose whoever is senior based on class rankings or something and stick them in charge to make them learn.
>>
>>23884347

Perhaps they encourage a natural leader to rise among new pilots?
>>
>>23884300
Usually, someone in the squad shows enough leadership/tactical knowledge to be assigned it.

Then there's pecking order.

Basically, time for RP.
>>
>>23884347
We probably aren't going to be together long enough for that.
>>
>>23884376

Hence my offer. If they like us, it is easier to make them follow us.
>>
>>23884389
If we do well with Tactics (being a bit more prepared), we can do a good job of it.
>>
"My friends, the least I could do is offer you all drinks, be it for aid sorely needed, or a battle sorely fought. Let us head to the mess, and it's on me." You declare, earning a cheer from everyone. As a military unit, you are not often allowed alchohol, but this is a base far back from the front line, and you just passed your test. You'll be allowed to drink. As you head back you get the stories from the others.

Twist, out of his Demi, is a short and pudgy young man with dark brown hair and eyes. Like all the rest of you he has been in the academy from a young age, and has focused his learning on support techniques. His father and mother are civilians, farmers in a village in the core of the Empire.

Melon is a quiet young woman, a blond with pale skin and blue eyes. Her father is Commander of the sixth Legion, her elder brother a senior pilot in the same Legion, and her mother a stay-at-home wife. She's hoping to be placed in the same Legion, and with the pull her father has, it seems a sure thing.

Vortez is a dark skinned girl with black hair and eyes. She comes from a long line of infantrymen and soldiers, and is the first Pilot in her family. She's incredibly proud of where she is now, feeling she has well earned her place. She's sore about losing, unlike Melon, but is willing to laugh it off due to your own good cheer.

You all make it back to base and leave your Demi in the Temple Hangar to be repaired by your Engineers, before heading to the mess hall. You dish out for a round of drinks for everyone, and Vortez raises her mug in a toast. "To our victories, may each one make us strong. And our losses, may each one make us wiser. We earned this. I wish you all nothing but the best of luck, may our rise be meteoric."

Anything to add? A toast of your own maybe?
>>
>>23884468

I imagine so. It would fit us, considering our role as sniper, to hold back and direct battle from afar.
>>
>>23884494

" To the Empire. No rise would be possible were not under its aegis, were we not its very sword."

Would like to tell them some of our own history. We are a blank slate, this seems a good place to fill that slate in.
>>
>>23884559
Wonderful! First of all, what is our family like? Are they civilians or military? And if military, do we come from a line of pilots or infantrymen?
>>
>>23884601
Civilians. That government propaganda organization you mentioned in the first thread.

It would explain Ace's patriotism.
>>
>>23884559
"To the Empire. No rise would be possible were we not under its aegis, were we not its very sword." You toast. Everyone drinks, and you spend the night getting to know eachother.

And I am going to say this is a great place to end for the night, actually. I'm tired, but I think this went well. Quite a bit better than I expected, really. I will likely have another thread... wednesday, I think. Around 4 or so. If anyone has any suggestions, comments, etcetera, now would be the time.
>>
>>23884691

I'm actually liking the idea of his parents being in the Press and Propaganda Corps. Could be fun. But we'll handle that next time.

Also, if you guys had a choice, which of the three other pilots would you be teamed up with?
>>
>>23884830

Off of what we know now, Melon.

She appears the most amenable to be molded into someone that compliments us, and her connections will be definite assets if we can win her trust.

I may appear a kind man, but that does not mean I shy from advantage when presented.
>>
>>23884830
Melon, maybe? She's crowd control and medium range firepower I'm assuming, which would be good for suppressing and/or flushing out enemies so we could pick them off.

Tactically, Melon is the best fit.

Her connections also reek of opportunity to those of us so inclined.

Lastly, if there are the villains men call "Waifu Fags" among us, she sounds somewhat attractive. Venus perish the thought.

No matter the reason, I am intrigued by the possibilities.
>>
>>23884985
Vortez is a powerhouse, but she's also something of a one-trick pony and seems like she might ignore orders and rush on ahead if she got angry.

Twist is useful, but I'm not sure I'd entirely trust him not to panic out on a real mission with real danger.

Melon has a flexible Demi, and seems fairly smart in how she uses it.
