You are a human-form gargoyle crafted of marble set to protect a small town on the frontier of the wild darkness. Your people are still ignorant of what you are, and rightfully so.
Knowledge of what you are would simply prove that they fear you or the monsters among them tempt your destruction.

The prior night, on your patrol, you encountered tales of a Pastor that heals people with the power of god. Within the old burned church, later in your waking hours, you encountered the very same man performing a dark ritual in the ruins of his church.

You had stopped by the ship of a strange man that you know only as "The Stranger" Sensing no life from the man, you had been wary of him, however he bore you no ill will and knew you for what you were. Claiming to be sent by your maker, he offers you your choice of weaponry from his stock. Promising to return within a week's time and offering to trade his wares for "beasties" that you slay.

We last left off with tailing a suspicious life signature that had been one of three awake during what appeared to be a city-wide sleep spell.

Chasing the person up north, your attention was diverted by a large life signature that had begun to move to your village.

Prioritizing threats, you intercepted the creature that you found to be a Troll of the Wood.

Its withering aura proved to be far too great a threat to let it simply live, so you dispatched it and absorbed the knowledge of the old, primal creature.

Picking up the trail of the suspicious person, you discovered it to be a man with a cloak. After seeing him react with a flash of life-destroying light, you decided to grapple him and remove a tome from his person.

Back in your town, you found the book to contain strange spells. You now seek to investigate the Mayor's cellar.
>>
You have found little of note searching the contents of the mayor's cellar so far, you have spent what seems like an hour shuffling around in the dark, refraining from touching too many of the items for fear of suspicion.

You could indeed light a candle to see the area better, your natural night vision only allowing for black and white.

You could always leave and just enter through the front door... however that is like to be locked.

The person sleeping in the area of the house above you has not been roused, though staying here of course is like to draw further attention.

What will you do about this?

>[] Wild abandon. Tear this place apart for clues.
>[] Light a candle and search over once more.
>[] Leave, there's more of the town to patrol.

During the night where everyone slept unnaturally you felt the 2 residents of this house deep underground.

You light a candle in the dark of the cellar, allowing your vision to become more comprehensive.

A part of you feels that you really shouldn't need to creep around in the dark like this... A part of you feels that you should've just crushed that wizard and sucked the marrow from his bones... A part of you... No... You aren't aware of his intentions, you could not read the text within the book. He could just be willing to defend this town, right?

You seek some kind of passage among the walls. one that goes deeper. You happen to feel a stone that gives way near the far corner of the cellar.

Pressing the block in, you are treated to a door that slides away, leading further down to a room with a glow not unlike that mage's.

Do you descend?

Hahah, arrived just in time.

[x]No, I must return to my patrol

On a mostly unrelated note, we should definitely spend a little of every night cleaning up the church a bit. People kept remarking how dirty it was when they came in for that service on the second night and we thrive on our relationship with our people. We still haven't decided upon a caretaker, so we'll have to do what we can until we do.
>>
>>23883042
>we should definitely spend a little of every night cleaning up the church a bit.

The people will clean it up themselves, now that it's being re-opened.

We don't want to call attention to our roost. Rumours of things being moved about in the night at the old church will only bring us trouble.
>>
You steel your determination and head down the steps, snuffing out the candle as you no longer require it.

In due time as your marble feet collides gently with the rough stone of the stairwell, you see find a large room.

Ripe with various alembics, alchemical equipment and an altar with a mutilated corpse atop it, you are rightly appalled with some fiber of your being.

You identify the corpse to be that of a small human, a child. There are shoddily thrown together bookshelves around the primary altar that it's been cut open, heart removed. There's vomit what appears to be vomit in an empty part of the room.

You examine the books on the shelf and determine them to be not unlike the one you had stolen from the man in the woods.

They have no title, yet depict strange languages and viscous diagrams for likely dark procedures.

You have near in mind to destroy everything in this room.

As you pick up a ritualistic dagger, you see that it has a bone-made handle and a black blade that drips some kind of horrendous fluid.

What... is this place?

"Hello? Are you an angel? Have you come to take me to heaven?" You glance around to determine the source of the voice. You find a small apparition, standing near the corpse.

"It hurts.. It hurts... and they keep me here..." it's a small boy.

>[] Apologize to the apparition.

>>
Aww SHEEEEEEEEEEEEEIT SON
>>
>>23883295
Look, let's all approach this rationally.

Yes, he does seem to be involved in some dark shit, but let's be honest here, we never gave him a chance to actually explain himself.

All we know is that he carries around a somewhat dark-seeming book, has magical powers that seem to focus on death, and doesn't like it when people attack him for no reason.

In short, he's sketchy, but we have no *real* evidence. We all know that dark magic doesn't make you evil--look at us. We're a walking bundle of dark magic. Not to mention the potential blood mage pastor that heals people.

While I'm not saying we should welcome him with milk and cookies, I am saying we should at least interrogate him and give him a shot to explain. We have no solid evidence. Clearly things are not black and white around here.
>>
[X] Tell it that you'll bring the pastor later.
>>
>>23883398
>but we have no *real* evidence

How about the dark alter with the corpse of a ritually murdered child on it!

Or the bound and suffering spirit of the murdered child.

They were in the basement. They were here. They were both part of this.

[x]Kill them.
>>
>>23883095

Only temporarily. The second church was "better real estate", so to speak. That was also addressed during that service. The people have some degree of limited resources and finances, but we (currently) cannot dictate how they spend those resources, directly or otherwise. Unless we can somehow convince them to build something else on the burned church grounds, there's nothing stopping them from rebuilding a church and letting us languish in neglect as they did before.

Better church conditions = better relationship with our people. We need to foster a strong, but distant relationship with the townsfolk. Whispers in the night can only do so much. As dumb as this sounds: people pray in church. What people are praying for will speak volumes for what they need as individuals and, by observing patterns in what people pray for, we can better discern the needs of the town as a whole. When people start coming to us with their problems instead of us seeking them out, that's like us gearing up preemptive strikes.

There's more to developing a successful town than monsta-fightan, though that certainly is an enjoyable aspect of it.

>>23883119
[x]Bring the pastor later

If even the blood mage thinks some weird shit is going down, THEN we should handle the Mayor.
>>
>>23883398

>>
>>23883398
>We have no solid evidence

Do you realise where we are, whats here and in whos house? Are you even reading the thread?
>>
Regarding the spirit-child, you speak with your unearthly tone.

"Child, what is this place? What has happened to you?"

The apparition looks uncomfortable for a moment, holding its stomach and trembling with its entire body. Its voice wavers," I... I don't know... I was sleeping in me own bed... Next thing I knew... It hurt.."

"I hid from them, but they saw me. . . They saw me and... they were even scared. The lady vomited. The man ground his teeth so hard, I could hear it.. I screamed. I screamed and the man threw a weird light at me. . . I... I can't leave. . ."

The apparition begins to cry. You put a hand upon its head, like you've seen humans do but it withdraws from the contact, screaming.

"Ow! What... What was that... It... It hurt..." The boy's spirit body begins to come open, much like the corpse and he begins screaming. Crying and screaming...

>[] Consume the soul.
>[] Leave, and quickly.
>[] Head into the house for some righteous murder.
>[] (other)

Optional:

>[] Take some of the books with you.
>[] Take the strange ritual dagger.
>[] Take the mutilated corpse.
>[] Smash the alchemy equipment.
>>
>>23883398
We're standing in his secret chamber by his dark altar with a dead child on it.

Do you think this is an accident or something?
>>
Lets take a look at the sleeping individual, I want to know if it is the so called lady who represents those who "own" the town and whether she is in on this.

It is all very simple:
1. we KEEP the books and tools to ourselves.
2. We kill the responsible parties and om nom nom.
3. We bring in the pastor to help us free the child's spirit
>>
>>23883546
Grab the books and the dagger. We can show them to the pastor...I think our hand is forced here, we have to get him involved, and pray he isn't in on it.

Head into the house for some righteous interrogation. We still have no real proof there isn't something larger at play.
>>
>>23883546

RIGHTEOUS FURY
>>
>>23883600
how about some inspiration from Donnie Darko, we start a fire in the cellar, people come running to put it out and find the child murder alter in the basement and we dont haveto reveal ourselves.
>>
>>23883500
If strange things start happening in the old church at night, people will ask questions we don't want them to ask. They will look places we don't want them to look.

If they want the church cleaned up, they can do it themselves.

What happens if someone assigns a guard to watch the church overnight? Our freedom to come and go from our perch will be lost.

Do not attract attention to our roost.
>>
>>23883633

Gonna agree with this sentiment. Even if the mayor/priest is being framed or is uninvolved, at best it means they're wholly incompetent and a liability to allow this to happen. Time to clean house.
>>
>>23883546
>"I hid from them, but they saw me. . . They saw me and... they were even scared. The lady vomited. The man ground his teeth so hard, I could hear it.. I screamed. I screamed and the man threw a weird light at me. . . I... I can't leave. . ."

That phrasing there seems odd, why were they scared? why did the lady vomited? that doesn't sound like the behavior of your average human sacrificing couple. Could there have been a third party involved?
>>
>>23883549
>>23883541
When you consider the nature of the enemy we fight, you cannot simply trust in the darkness of mens souls. We fight an enemy that subverts, infiltrates, and coerces. How do we know these men aren't possessed to do these atrocities? How do we know this isn't some bizarre ritual that -helps- the village as a whole?

We have no solid evidence. We only have evidence that ostensibly points to them as the culprits. How convenient for the real enemy for us to fall for their plot.

>>23883666
By that logic, we need to kill all the villagers for not seeing this coming. They can't defend themselves, worthless fools. Kill 'em all.
>>
>>23883656
Guys, the "old church" has been reopened due to the main church being burned down on night 1. They had a sermon there yesterday.
Also there is way too many things to do to spend our time cleaning.
>>
>>23883671

Maybe they're new at this. Every ritualistic child-murderer has a first time.
>>
>>23883694

The villagers aren't entrusted to protect against this sort of thing. The mayor and priest are.
>>
>>23883546
>other

Start a fire in the cellar to get peoples attention, since the alter is in a cobelstone tunnel it will remain intact and for everyone to see.
>>
>>23883671
FUCK!!! HES NOT THE FUCKING MURDERER! HE'S THE FUCKING HERO HERE!
>>
>>23883600
This seems a reasonable course of action. Instead of murdering the only lead we have on what appears to be an organized cult of ritual murders, we take the evidence of foul play to a power in the city we can be reasonably sure is not part of the murder-club and TALK our way through to success.
It's never too late to resort to violence, but it can be premature.
>>
>>23883546
Wait. There is more going on here than we thought!
>I was sleeping in me own bed... Next thing I knew... It hurt.
Something happened to the kid.
>I hid from them, but they saw me. .
They found him after it happened.
>they were even scared. I screamed and the man threw a weird light at me
Whatever was happening to the kid scared them enough to start throwing magic at it.

My theory is that he was turned into an undead monstrosity of some sort by another player in the game. The mage found him, shit, maybe we're on the same side, even. Mage blasts him, something happens, we have no scale of time, here..he ends up in the woods where we attack him for no reason other than being suspicious in the wrong place.

Maybe the reason he has the book, is beacuse he stole it from this place as evidence, or to prevent them from finishing a ritual?

Shit, maybe even this place is here to try and -reverse- the curse on the kid. Gotta know the spell to undo it, you dig?

>>23883788
This may not be a sacrificial alter. It might be an autopsy table.

We need more information. We know the Priest wasn't down here last night. We need to question the figure upstairs and get the Priest to look at some of these books so he can confirm or deny what the suspect says.
>>
>>23883656
If we have a caretaker, a guard is unnecessary. I'm not talking major renovations here. Just something that'll make the people even slightly more comfortable. A tiny bit of dusting will not have people screaming about devilry and witchcraft.

>>23883695
I'm aware, but there's no guarantee that they won't rebuild the burned church since they already went to the trouble of building a second church in the first place.

>>23883546
Righteous fury is nice and all, but we have to consider the repercussions. What if we accidentally the humans and do what we did with the one wolf?

Creepy ritualistic child murderers are scary.

Some unknown force that brutally mutilates creepy ritualistic child murderers in a room full of suspicious magic equipment and is probably running loose might be scarier.

>>23883888
>autopsy table

That's certainly an interesting perspective.
>>
>>23883888

The bound child-spirit, creepy dagger and books make it seem a little less benign than simply an autopsy table, but I agree that there's more to it than initial appearances would indicate.

The pastor seems to be a very holy man, and a mage of some sort. I think he understands magic, dark and light. Especially once we talk to him. At the very least, we can pull the religious angle--"I am but a messenger, Pastor. I can take to direct action, only pass judgement" or some shit.

You mean the blood mage priest? Are we thinking of the same person?
>>
>>23884284
We can easily interrogate someone. We're a demonically-voiced statue that hits like a brick. We're more than capable of konking someone over the head, and tying them to a chair, then asking questions.
>>
Your mind churns with all of the implications of what could truly be at work here.,

There is indeed a part of you that desires to smash, maim and destroy the person upstairs and the man from the wood. They were both here the prior night... Wait... the time..

"Chi-" The ghost continues to scream as its form unravels into the same mutilation of the corpse. You turn to close the door to this room, yet you end up slamming it.

"Child!" You roar, with the voice of a demon.

The apparition silences itself and looks upon you in terror, sobbing out a light wail.

"How long... How long have you been here?"

The ghost seems to try to piece together your question.

"I... I don't know.. They... Haven't returned yet... I saw them once... I... I can't see the sun."

You take one of the books and the dagger, slipping them in the belt that holds your knives of silver and iron.

Opening the iron door, you turn to the child's soul and growl out a, "Remain silent... I will bring the pastor."

The child sniffles and you depart, heading upstairs. You leave the cellar open and you sense that the life upstairs has awakened. You were just about to do that anyway.

You feel the panic from the signature, and you slip into the shadows as you feel it coming close. A trapdoor opens in the ceiling and you see a woman, rather mature, heading down the ladder steps.

"Johan, have you returned? Why have you gone down there.. Have you found means to banish it?"

She calls out into the cellar, and begins to head down the stone stairs...

>>

Stealth. Unless we can subdue her without lethal force, quiet enough to NOT wake up the mayor, we should get the pastor before blowing our cover.

[x] Subdue the woman.
>Have you found means to banish it?

Well, she just earned herself a few points.

Either the spirit is something dangerous they want rid of. Or, it is an innocent and they don't actually want to keep him bound and suffering.

[x]Question her.
Once we've done that we might still need to fetch the Priest. We'll know a bit more once we have some answers.
>>
>>23884315
then what? kill him? or release him and let him spread panic to the town? what about the possibility of him recognizing us as the freaking statue of their church? what if he has no information whatsoever?

she is the only person in the house bro
>>
>>23884416
I wasn't under the impression that you had to stand right in front of someone in glaring light to interrogate them.

Staying in the shadows and using our HORRIBLE OTHERWORLDLY VOICE to freak him the fuck out will likely do a lot more.

If they're evil, we kill them. If they're on our side, why the fuck would they rat us out and destroy us?
>>
>>23884399
I don't see knocking her unconscious as being a problem as long as we're not in berserker battle mode. Just a light tap on the head should suffice.

Have to be sure that she's actually out before we do leave, just so she doesn't try to run for help, clean up the evidence, follow us, or perform any other action that would otherwise be detrimental to our plan.
>>
>>23884321
[x] Subdue the woman.

It seems Johan was was our buying that book as a means to banish the kid.

She has no idea we already have the book. Ask her about this 'banishment' and what it involves.

Then, we can show the book to the Priest and check her story.
>>
>>23884432
She obviously thought that we were someone else (presumably someone who would reasonably be in the house at this time), so though she's the only one in the house NOW, Johan might come back to find an unconcious woman in his basement before we get back with the preacher.
>>
>>23884487
We could just consume his soul, it would probably give us a bit more humanity.

We can also conk her on the head tie her to a chair and interrogate from behind, conk her when we're done and put a knife in her hands to cut her bindings
>>
>>23884399
>quiet enough to NOT wake up the mayor,
There is no one else in the house. We only detected one life-force sleeping in the building.

Either she is the Mayoress.
Johan is the Mayor.

I dont understand you fucking people, when we had the mage face first in dirt with his hands forced to his nech nobody wanted to interogate him because he would know we were a gargoyle because of our unearthly voice and decided to fuck off with his book but now everyone jumps at the chance to subdue and interogate this woman and then go get the pastor. you fucking people

it can work, but theres a risk, we are made of stone remember? even if we can somehow manage to incapacitate someone without injuring him and without him laying eyes on us, he could still touch us

and we cant determine if someone's evil or untrustworthy just by questioning them
>>
>Subdue woman; get pastor (4)

Almost an even divide.

Still going with KO; retrieve pastor.
>>
>>23884571
>when we had the mage face first in dirt with his hands forced to his nech nobody wanted to interogate him

Because, without a way to check facts and confirm/deny his story, questioning him was pointless.

We can do that now. We will get answers. If she is a monster, she will die. If she is not, we can manage that.

She may even be a hero. Even if she isn't, she has secrets she does not want revealed.

Also, at no point should we reveal any limitations in the day light.

Some Gargoyles can move in the day. You've seen the skill-trees we have access to, experienced Gargoyles are NOT to be messed with.

You remain silent, waiting for the woman to pass by your shadowed form, grabbing her roughly by the sleeve of her gown and apply ample force to bring her down as she screams.

You throw your cloak over her face to prevent her from seeing you and snuff out the offensive candle-light.

Finally, as she begins to scream, you apply ample force to the back of her head, rattling her. and causing her body to go limp.

You turn her over and touch her body to feel for breath. She's still alive.

You find rope near one of the kegs in the cellar and bind her, leaving her as is to retieve the pastor.

You would have liked to handle this on your own, however your lack of information proves to trouble you.

You leave through the cellar doors and close them for the time being. Reaching out for those two familiar lives... You feel the suspect man... likely the mayor is still beyond the palisade.

You detect that the pastor has stirred from his slumber within the burned church.

You slip to an open alley and take wing, entering the burnt church silently through the hole that the werewolf had made.

You enter to find that the church is in the middle of the ruined church, staring at the altar.

He looks up to you at your place from the shadows.

"Two nights in a row, you have visited me demon. What brings you to my ruined pews?" The Pastor has a tired, exasperated tone towards you. He calls you a demon, yet he does not seem... upset?

You throw down the dagger and the book. They land with a respective clang and s thud.

Pastor Clegane looks down to the items, and back up to you.

"What are these?" He approaches the items, picking up the book first and turning the pages.

"Necromancy..." He turns to face you once more, despite your dark shroud.

"What do you mean by this? What do you intend?"

You remain silent for a moment longer before speaking," Do you defend these people as I do?"

"I... What?" Pastor Clegane closes his eyes for a moment. "I shed blood for these people."

"Go to the mayor's home and enter the cellar."

Clegane regards the knife in the dim light of his candle.

"Very well."

He picks up the knife, and exits the church. You linger for a moment longer before following him from the rooftops.

You feel that the other presence from the wood has since entered the town. The mage will be here in due time.

You shadow the pastor closely, he seems to be acutely aware of your presence, glancing up at the rooftops you pass over now and then. He makes adequate haste for a human.

You sense the mage coming close, yet at a fatigued walking pace.

You loom atop the the roof a building within sight of the cellar as the pastor enters.

You feel him stop at the woman, and head deeper into the cellar, where the spirit is.

You hear nothing for some time, until the muted scream of the spirit rings out from the chamber.

You feel the priest come back up, and something occurs where the woman is roused.

You see the mage return, coming in through the cellar door.

With initiative, you swoop down on the man from behind, grabbing him by his right arm, and his left shoulder forcing him down into the chamber, and restraining him with your might as he begins to flail to through that light at the Pastor,"No!" The man yells.

Clegane regards you and the man that you have restrained.

"Johan... How could you." The Pastor throws a mighty backhand across your prisoner's face as he begins to speak.

Johan spits blood,"You... You wouldn't help me... in all of your knowledge..."

Clegane gives him another harsh backhand.

"The boy was one of Cedrik's sons."

The Pastor grabs the mage by the throat with a powerful hand, causing the man to choke and gag. He turns to you and whispers," You may let him go."

You comply, respecting the wishes of the holy man.

"Who.. what are you talking too?! What was..." Clegane turns Johan's head to see your shadowed form. only your face illuminated by the priest's candle.

"You have been apprehended by agents of God. You have killed a child. Do you have anything to say before you meet the creator?"

Johan spits, and brings his hands up, summoning that withering light. You move to end him, however the priest only tightens his grip has the ghastly light permeates his flesh.

"H-how.."

"Blood magic... Is not necromancy. It is life."

The woman struggles in her ropes, trying to stand, "No... No... I'm innocent. I... I..."

The pastor closes his eyes and looks up.

You realize that Pearl has not looked upon you.

it lets us decide her fate and see if there is not another necromancer at large./ best course of action.

All that means is they were looking for a way to banish it.

Saying:
>She has been misled by her husband, told that the spirit was an evil specter here to torment the living, and that he was attempting to banish it and save lives. She holds no fault in this."
Is a HUGE fucking leap.
>>
I am not sure, yet. The child's tale included a woman being present, but that she was vomiting. Perhaps she merely stumbled upon the sacrifice and was horrified by it. Perhaps she was a participant and merely disgusted by the gore she helped commit.
But she did know of the spirit though, when I woke her up and she mistook me for johan and asked why I had gone down there and if I had found the means to banish "it".

Also, if she is detained for a while, it wont be long until I would be able to look into her mind and say with certainty.

Either way, it's better to presume innocence and let a murderer stay alive a few days longer before being able to read her mind and determine her guilt than to presume guilt and find out later after carrying out the punishment that she was innocent.

That's a problem.

They're obviously causing problems, and she's enabling it - they had a ghost in their basement, for crying out loud. Why didn't she report it to someone, like, say, the priest? Why keep it to themselves? It reeks of foul play.

In any case, they were disturbing the peace by bringing in who knows what kind of magical forces. What if they messed up and unleashed a ghoul on the town? As a guardian, we can't tolerate this kind of thing.
>>

Speaking and keeping her alive for questioning aren't exclusive.

[x]Speak
"Does she claim ignorance of this?

She lies, she was present at the childs death. She was in that room."

See what she says and let the Priest do his thing.

If there is still any doubt.

[x]Speak again
"Keep them alive. Later, I will look into their minds and find the truth."
>>
"Does she claim ignorance of this?

She lies, she was present at the child's death. She was in that room."

Pastor Clegane bows his head as your unearthly voice rings throughout the chamber.

Pearl panics and begins blubbering," No... No... I.." You see the withering light come from her palms, and she frees herself from the ropes.

Holding her hands forward, you see that she's ready to blast Clegane with it,"Stay... Stay away from me... We're... We're not doing anything wrong! We just want to live. . ."

Clegane holds before him the tome that you had retrieved,"This, this book. details your misdeeds. Necromancy. Pursuing life through death."

The Priest advances as you observe.

Pearl throws that ghastly light at him and begins to sob out loud," Why, why, why isn't it working!?"

Within range of the woman now, he puts her to the ground with the weight of the book and picks her up by her throat.

"It is working. Yet it is weak compared to the vitality I possess."

You feel the priest's life force grow and expand. A great presence, yet something like the troll would certainly dwarf it..

You speak up.

"Bring them before the child. Let them be condemned by the dead."

Pearl gags from the grip of the pastor. He pushes her forward, and into the tunnel.

"You will see this child..."

They disappear into the basement...

We need that exp, dontcha know.
>>
So, we (most likely) confirmed the priest is on our side.
And he is the ideal caretaker as I have detailed earlier...
So how about we ditch the stoic silent guy shtick and talk to him?
Specifically ask for his guidance, tell him everything we know and have seen. Explain you were crafted created from dark magics to protect humanity by "doing unto evil" but you are not evil, your instincts are to protect humans and consume monsters.
But beyond those instincts you have a mind and a soul and would like his guidance.
>>
>>23886443
It's not lying. If we have eaten their souls, their spirits can't be bound by necromancers.

>>23886468
I'm fine with talking to the preist, but can we Not just start with 'crafted by dark magics'? How about just 'I'm a living gargoyle protector of this town, and I sit in front of the church'?
>>
>>23886468
No need to mention the dark magics involved in our crafting -
For one it looks bad, and he doesn't really need to know, at least at this point.
If it isn't an issue, don't bring it up and make one.
>>
>>23886468
Woah, let's not give him out life story.

This seems like a good start for a working relationship. Let's just take it slow and build on it.

I'd like to know him a bit better before we tell him to much about ourself.

Mostly about the whole 'turning inanimate and helpless during the day' thing.

He has definite potential as our caretaker but give it some time.
>>
>>23886232

I prefer to follow and interrogate them. Get to the bottom of what is going on.

Thinking that we will try to banish the child in the end and not eat him. (I know it is no xp for us but fits our char)
>>
>>23886586
Absolutely about not eating the child.
We didn't eat the mermaids nor the supernatural homeless woman sleeping in our church
>>
>>23886617
Yea, child can go on to the next life or whatever he got waiting.

The necromancers gettin' nommed on.
>>
With the unconscious Johan near you, and his obvious misdeeds, you lift the man up by his cloak. peering at him a moment, you see his eyes flicker open.

As his face contorts with fear, you break his neck with a sickening crunch as you twist.

With his death, you enfold your wings around your... prey and take in the man's soul.

With the deed done, you ruthlessly drop the man's body upon his own cellar.

Advancing into the stairwell, you hear the spectral scream of that ghost once more, only for it to die down after a few moments.

Entering the room, you see that the Pastor continues to hold Pearl by the neck, staring at her in his anger.

"Indeed my child. This woman has taken your life..."

Pearl cries and wails in his grip as he has shoved the women into the mutilated corpse that lies on the table.

"I... I..."

"Life is a precious thing. To take the life of others in pursuit of life. I cannot abide."

Pearl starts to make odd sounds and Clegane throws her upon the ground in time for her to wretch again from the site of the child.

"Demon... You will take them, correct?"

"I am no demon."

"Close enough for the purpose."

"They wanted to live like monsters, so I shall allow them a monster's death."

"So be it. I will think of... something for the town... Likely that they are both lost to the wood... Or... No... You'll hear it tomorrow if it should come to that. Go on. Take her," Clegane stares at the child's ghost that seems to be cowering in fear of your presence.. or perhaps Pearl's?

Either way, it s time for your feast.

You enscircle the wretching woman with your wings and she screams as you snap her neck, draining the life and soul out of her.

You hear Clegane say something," ... Like a vulture..."

Pulling back, you subdue the two souls that have entered the confines of your body.

Feeling.... "fulfilled" in some way.

Your eyes move to the trembling ghost.

"What will you do with him?" you ask, you voice calm.

"There is little that I can do. I may be the priest of this town... However... I know as better than anyone that there is no God."

"Yet, you..."

"Preach? Indeed. I preach and answer what prayers that I can. With my own blood and power.."

The Paster puts his fingers to his forehead,"I could indeed free him with the proper incantation. . . However, he is like to become a Fae, or be escorted by one if left on his own. . . Perhaps he'll become food for a demon?"

The pastor, regards the child's ghost for a moment.

"What of those that died from the wolves?"

"The earth has claimed those souls. It is likely the best place for us all... All of us humans..." The Pastor stares at you with some manner of distaste or defiance.

I seem to be getting that he's offering the soul to us to eat.
>>
>>23886751
tell him of the book we stole (and our reasoning behind stealing it) and failing his ability to free the child with that, offer to find a decent fae to escort the kid. we have a mermaid and with a few exp spent we can see if the chick in our church is decent.

should we ask the kid his name? it's kinda awkard refering to him as the kid.
>>
Tell him of the book
"Pastor, the lingering ghost was not a part of their plan, from what I overheard they intended to banish the spirit.
Johan went out and acquired a book to do so, I did not get to see from where as I was sidetracked by a monster advancing on the village
However I did steal the book from him. It should contain the magics needed to help the child pass on properly."
>>
>>23886751
[x] Tell the Pastor of the book you stole.

"The man was returning with a book when I first encountered him. The woman spoke of him learning how to banish the child.

I will give you the book. Perhaps it can help him."

Between Johan's soul and Pearl's soul, you will gain 2 exp. They didn't have enough knowledge or power to yield traits of any sort.

Their knowledge of Necromancy was novice at best.

"There... Was a book that I stole from Johan in the woods."

"Stole?" The Pastor raises an eyebrow.

"He was suspicious and I required information. I could not discern the text. Pearl mistook me for him during my investigation. Referenced banishing. I will bring you the book." You begin to depart.

"Demon."

You pause.

"Thank you." The Pastor bows.

"It is... My duty."

You depart.

- - - - - - - - - - -
The night sky begins to lighten, yet you continue on with your flight. You bring the book from your church, only pausing to realize that the woman within is gone.

The priest takes the book and thanks you, however something crosses your mind.

Kneeling before the apparition, you ask it a question...

"Do you wish to remain and hope that the father can free you before you fall victim to a demon or morph into a fae? Or would you prefer to help me protect this place? I shall not force you one way or the other. . ."

The child looks to you, and then to Clegane.

"I... umm... "

"You could stop this from happening to any more children."

The Pastor remains silent, allowing your words with the child as he turns through the pages of the book.

"I can set you free, take the pain away if you choose to help."

I think the ideal thing for the child would be to turn into a friendly happy fae who could return to his family without endangering them... the question is, do such fae exist?

The child tentatively nods his head, "Oh... Ok. I'll... I'll help you."

The Pastor peers over to you as he holds a spot open in the book.

"I will first free him from this place. Whatever happens to him after will not lay on my conscience. His murderers have received justice."

The pastor holds his hand out and mutters a few words to the child. A flash of sheer white and the boy seems to feel all the better.

"The... the pain is gone... I'm free..."

"Priest... Clegane..."

"You've been listening, hmm creature? What is it?"

"What other parts of the afterlife are there? What happens when he joins the earth? What happens when he becomes face?"

"If he is left to suffer misery and envy of the living, he will likely come to despise them, becoming a fiendish sort of fae... The type that play malicious tricks, feed on the life of the living, and so forth. If taken to a faerie ring, or some other sort of fae magic, he is like to become a good fae and be able to live among them. It would be new life for him.

Alternatively, he returns to the earth, and he's one day reborn." Clegane gets close to you, yet remains out of reach," I haven't the faintest idea what happens to souls after demons take them however... It has said they are lost. And it has been said that they return once the demon is slain... This is your victory, and this boy has agreed so I will not stop you. However, I do not agree that you should take him." "Hearthson."

"What?"

"The town's name, this village's name is 'Hearthson.' It is named after the city of Hearth that exists in the civilization to the west."

"Hearthson... I protect the people.. and I will protect the good fae of Hearthson. Fae.. The Fae.. is there... a Faerie Ring near?"

"Around here? Not that I'm aware. You may want to ask the fae that question. They move from night to night. No real pattern either. Just whatever fancies them."

" Jack Shephard is like to gain help from Fae in the coming day or the following night. Worry not of him."

The Pastor smiles somewhat. Or perhaps, he's just not scowling at you now. He begins to leave. "I have work to do. Deceiving people is something that I've been good at, it keeps them safe... perhaps you should do the same. . . We have the same goals after all."

Jack smiles," Thank you Mr... umm, Angel! I'm going to go explore now, by!" It doesn't seem like he understood what all of that meant...

You return to your church for the coming day. Stashing your equipment within the church and beneath floorboards, you set yourself above the church, spread your arms and welcome the light of the world onto the land...
