>Hovering behind you was Einstein. You could check his data at any time, you knew: http://pastebin.com/CaAF0yS8

The year is 2573, and it's almost dinner time. You're lying on your bed with a tub of ice cream. Almost half an hour ago, Einstein returned, and Asmodeus thanked you before releasing control of the drone.

You wiped at your face... and then you heard something shift outside of the door.

And then you heard a quiet meow. Your telepathy didn't translate it, and you weren't sure why... And then there was a knock at the door. You get to your feet, and after washing your face, you open it-

To see Anna, holding out lil'summer to you, almost as tribute.
"... I'm sorry." She said. Lil'summer meowed.
>>

"I j-just wanted you to h-hear me out."

Wipe nose and sniffle.
>>
hug her.
>>
>>23926667
"It's okay. Will you talk to me now?"
>>
"I j-just wanted you to hear me out." You say, and then sniffle, wiping your nose with a sleeve. "Will you talk to me now?"
"Yeah." Anna said, and came in, giving you the kitten as she sat down on your bed.

You set the kitten aside and hug her.
"I um... overreacted." She said, returning your hug. "You're the one with technopathy. You should be able to tell if something's wrong with that... um, AI."
>>

"It's pretty much entirely safe, and they were just communicating vocally anyway so the worst it could do would be to insult your dad or something. But it's been far too helpful and informative for me to believe it has any Demiurg sympathies."

"N-no, I should have thought it through."
>>
>>23926786
"I believe you when you say that the demiurg are evil. Especially given what the AI has told me. But it's the same reason it doesn't have any sympathy for them.

It's concluded that the demiurg would've destroyed it once it stopped being useful. It's grateful and loyal to me because instead of that, I gave it a bigger hard drive.

Even so, I AM trying to ensure that it's incapable of bringing harm to anyone for now. That's why I made sure your father could only communicate with it vocally."

"It's pretty much entirely safe, and they were just communicating vocally anyway, so the worst it could do would be to insult your dad or something."
"Dad's not that hard to insult." Anna said.
"But it's been far too helpful and informative for me to believe it has any Demiurg sympathies," You say, and hug her again.
"I immediately regretted getting angry." Anna said. "I'm sorry.
"I believe you when you say that the demiurg are evil." You say. "Especially given what the AI has told me. But it's the same reason it doesn't have any sympathy for them. It's concluded that the demiurg would've destroyed it once it stopped being useful. It's grateful and loyal to me because instead of that, I gave it a bigger hard drive."
"Well... could you do me a favor?" Anna asked. "Rig something up on it, so that, well... if it does go bad, you could destroy it remotely? J-just for safety's sake, I mean."
>>
that would be murder. And there is another technopath running around. If she could trigger that it'd kill Omni with a thought. Remember technopathy is based on telepathy and Jilly is right. There is no limit on distance. I saw technology two galaxies thataway Anna.

"And there's another technopath running around," You say. "If she could trigger that, it'd kill Omni with a thought. Remember, technopathy is based on telepathy, and Jilly is right. There's no limit on distance."
"There isn't?"
"... I saw technology two galaxies that way, Anna." You say, and point. Not in the right direction, you knew, but in the right direction for maximum dramatic effect.
"O-oh." She said. "Um. Again, I'm sorry for getting angry. I.. I brought you a kitten to help cheer you up."
You look over to the pillow on your bed, and lil'summer was rolling on her back, rubbing her face against the pillow.
"I also gave her a little bit of catnip." Anna. "For maximum adorable."

"That's okay, as long as we're back on good terms I'll cheer up anyway, but i was very thoughtful of you."
Dazzling smile and hug kitty.

Wait... That makes me wonder what happens to the psion when one of their manifestations takes mind altering substances.

You hug her again, and then hug the kitten, which starts licking at your hands and purring loudly.
"I could probably install a circuit breaker, though. I'm pretty sure Niss would understand, too."
"It might be better if you didn't tell him," Anna said. "Because if he... does go bad, then he'd wait until he could modify himself."

"Let's go get dinner..." You say, trailing off. "After we pet the kitty."
"Okay." Anna responded, and started petting the kitty.
>>
>>23927125
"Thanks for being so understanding, I know it can't be easy for you."

"Anna...thanks."
Hug her, then head off for food.

>>
"Anna... thanks for being so understanding." You say. "I know it can't be easy for you."
"... I've seen a lot of people die." Anna said. "I don't want you to be one of them."

The two of you (three, counting the kitty) leave the room, and make your way down to the cafeteria. Sarvesh was there, and he was stirring up some sort of soup.
"Hello, you two." He said, with a nod.
"Hey." Anna said.
"Are you feeling a bit better?" Sarvesh asked Anna. The girl nodded. "Glad to know."
>>
>>23927317
"I'm starving, probably should have come out for food earlier really."
>>
>>23927317
"What are you cooking, Sarvesh?"
>>
I'm not going to discount having a healthy wariness towards Omni, but just remember that the longer things continue as they are, any true betrayal attempts become less likely. If any elaborate plot does indeed emerge, it is likely to have been hatched after the fact and Omni being used as a tool in it. For him to have betrayed us from the start would truely have to be a mastercrafted plan for there to be absolutely no slip-ups by now. Omni betraying us on his own is also growing less and less likely because we've been nothing but an asset. Outside interference ala VQ is the true worry at this stage.
>>
>>23927343
didn't she just eat a tub of ice creme?
>>
"What are you cooking, Sarvesh?"
"Soup." Sarvesh responded. "With chicken, tuna, some noodles, some carrots... Want some?"
"God yes." Anna said. "I'm starving."
"Here you go. It's still hot, though." Sarvesh said.
"I'm starving too. Probably should have come out for food earlier, really," You say. Ice cream didn't fill you up at all. You blow on the soup for a while, and take a spoonful.
"This... is delicious." Anna said. "I didn't know you could cook!"
"I can, yes. I rarely do, though."
>>
>>23927436
"Where'd you learn the recipe? At home or after coming here?"
>>
>>23927436
"You'll have to cook more often then. This is really good."

"Do you know any good Centaur recipes?"
>>
"You'll have to cook more often, then." You say, and pick up one of the noodles as it slips off your spoon again. "This is really good. Where'd you learn the recipe? At home, or after coming here?"
"For this? I just threw it together." Sarvesh said.
"Do you know any good centaur recipes?"
"Centaur don't have as strong a sense of taste as humanity. Instead food is seen as good based on the... texture. The experience of chewing." Sarvesh said. "I know a few. One of my favorites are Kal'chk. You spread dough, melt chocolate onto that, and take some sort of meal and layer that on top of the molten chocolate. Once done, you roll it up tightly and bake the dough, then cool the chocolate. It leaves a long, tightly coiled cylinder that's rather interesting to eat. But it's difficult not to burn the chocolate when you're baking the bread."
>>
>>23927540
"Oooh, that sound delicious. You'll have to make it some time, or show us how to."

"I will." Sarvesh said.
"Can we contact your brother about getting the parts for my ship's hull, now, Sarvesh? or tomorrow morning, maybe?"
"... He's already getting everything together." Sarvesh said. "I got him to simply give us the parts as a personal favor to me. The hull, at the least, and he's also delivering us the life support. I believe we just need the computer systems now."

"He's sending it through freighter, so not fast. It should be here tomorrow or the day after." Sarvesh said.
"Any recommendations where I can get the computer systems?"
"Not that I can think of." Sarvesh said. "We could build them, but building something powerful enough to be useful would be difficult."

"I'll also need to teach you how to make landings," Anna said. "And lifting off. And all that stuff."

You turn to Sarvesh and hug him as well, which is rather impossible unless you hugged his leg, stood on a table or on his abdomen - so you scramble up onto the table to pull him into a hug too.
"Let's hope it's tomorrow, along with the S-class bubble drive! Then we can all go on adventures!"
"I have my own ship, you know. We could go on adventures with my ship," Anna said. "And I thought we were waiting until the weekend to go on adventures?"

"We could go to my world." Sarvesh said. "But I feel like swimming. So I'd like to come to Heaven's Jewel, if it's no problem."
"... How do you even swim? Do you know how? Aren't you too dense?" Anna asked.
"You're curious, aren't you?" Sarvesh asked. Anna nodded. "Then you'll get to take me with and find out."
Anna shot him a glare.

"I know what we'll do at the beach!" You say. "We'll construct the greatest sandcastle ever. We can use our powers. It will be nothing short of glorious."
"Yes!" Anna said.

Suddenly, Lil'summer meowed and turned to the door, just as Summer walked in.
"That's where I went!" Summer said, the pig following her.
"... That pig still exists?" Sarvesh asked.
"I tried demanifesting it, but I had some trouble. I'll get rid of it eventually. Alex said it made his head hurt too much when he touched it."

Well you make things from how you conceptulize them. You know what goes into pizza is bread, which is made from wheat, the sauce is tomato and the ham is pig. Maybe what happened is that those things are more real to you and thus made them last when Alex touched it. I wonder if we can translate that directly into manifestations somehow.
>>
"Hey, Summer!" You say. "You could always, well... fresh bacon, I guess."
"I could, but not with my claws." She said. "It would be weird to do that."
"Aren't the researchers annoyed at having a pig wandering around? Actually, I'd figure them to be all over it, trying to find out anything they could about your manifestation."
"They did. That's why I caught it. According to their sensors, it's a perfectly normal pig. They're running the genetics now. Did you know that my Summer manifestation is genetically related to Winter?"

"How difficult would it be for us to un-strap the drive from the shuttle when we want to put it on my ship?" You ask.
"Not hard." Sarvesh said. "Especially if we just disconnect and reconnect the forgers and projector plates."
Damien came into the room, Alex on his heels.

You stop shaking him. You'd never thought of that.

Everyone gave you and Alex a Look.
"Want some soup?" Sarvesh asked, and slid a bowl in front of Alex.

"Do you think we should ask Max if he wants to come? I'd feel kind of bad ignoring him."
>>
"So we're all going over to Heaven's Jewel for a weekend," you say, and take a seat. "Anything else any of you want to do? There's going to be beaches, sun, meeting my parents, shopping, some other stuff, but if you have something you'd like to do, I can happily work it into our itinerary."
"Well, lounging at the beach would probably be fun." Alex said. "And we could take a monorail around the city. Pick up girls - or guys, based on taste, I guess. Go see if there are any museums? Libraries? Heaven's Jewel is a tourist trap sort of world, though Heather and I lived out in the boonies, compared to the most congested areas, so we can take you guys places without going into lines."
He turned to you.
"The theme park probably doesn't have accommodations for Sarvesh, Jilly, or Summer, so those are out." He said.
"Think we should ask Max if he wants to come? I'd feel kind of bad ignoring him."
"Yeah, we could ask." Summer said.
>>

You finish your soup and stretch.
"It's a shame about the theme park, but there's still lots to see!"
"Yeah." Alex said. "Much better than Burer's Glyph, after all."

<I have a question.> Anna said. <What are we going to do about the... er, what are we going to do about Omnissiah?>
>>
>>23929269
I'm not sure. It might just want to tag along?

How about we formally introduce you two?

>>
<Well, the first thing I'm going to do is have the two of you talk to eachother,> You tell her. <He's not a demiurg, he's his own being. Trust the technopath.>
<I trust you!> She said. <I just, um, don't trust it. How do you know it's telling the truth? It's said that a superintelligent AI could convince any human being of anything. Normally the limits of an AI and uplifts are around human-level intelligence, but the demiurg... it could be much smarter than we are.>
>>
>>23929387
He was really really limited when I first found him. I doubt he would have been able to even form a lie, or maybe even the concept of lying. He's gotten smarter since then, sure, but from what I saw at the start, that simply isn't the case.

She was little more then an emotionless autopilot, when first I talked to her.
>>
>>23929387
"The same way I can trust any intelligent human. You can always assume that anyone being friendly is a huge deception and there's no way to truly disprove that, there is the slight possibility that I'm working for the Demiurg, gaining your trust, and then will cackle evilly as my evil plan comes into fruition. But everything in his behavior, circumstance, and growth fits him being independent."
>>
>>23929387
<True, I don't completely trust it. But if it's that smart, it could do the same to the Demiurg. Who would willingly work for them?>
Much more likely he's working for the Void Queen.
>>
<The same way I can trust any intelligent human.> You say. <You can always assume that anyone being friendly is a huge deception and there's no way to truly disprove that. There's the slight possibility that I'm working for the Demiurg, gaining your trust, and then I'll cackle evilly as my evil plan comes into fruition. <That's, um... well reasoned, actually.> She said. <I'll meet with it tomorrow. But only through speakers. Speaking of which, where is it right now?>

You look to your omnitool, to Einstein, and to einstein's sensors of Omnissiah's location... and you can see that it's watching the tridvision, watching a documentary on ancient ancient human history.

<Watching the trid. Some ancient history thing is on.>
>>
>There's the slight possibility that I'm working for the Demiurg, gaining your trust, and then I'll cackle evilly as my evil plan comes into fruition.
Warlord Heather doesn't work for the demiurg. The demiurg work for her.
>>
<Watching the trid.> You say. <Some ancient history thing is on.>
<Huh.> She said, and stretched. "I think I might get to bed, though... Early sleep and all."
"Alright," Alex said. "Goodnight, Anna."
"You too." She said, and waved to the group as she left.
"I, meanwhile, am going to go practice some more." Sarvesh said. "If I can learn to teleport far enough, then I will not even need to travel with you all. I still will, but I won't need to."
>>
>>23929714
"Have fun Sarvesh."

Give him a hug.

"I hope you like Heaven's Jewel, it's a nice place."
>>
>>23929714
"Have you learnt to teleport yourself yet?"

Sneakily tail Anna, see if she goes up to the Trid room. If not, then go and read more of that book. Or talk to Nissa, so we can ask him about what he and Asmodeus talked about.

"I'll be off myself, Goodnight all!"
>>
>>23929714
"Be careful! Don't want to end up in a wall, or forgetting certain molecules of yourself!"
>>
"Have you learned to teleport yourself yet?"
"Short distances, yes." Sarvesh said.
"Be careful! Don't want to end up in a wall, or forgetting certain molecules of yourself!"
"I can't teleport molecules individually yet, so don't worry." Sarvesh said. "And... I've ended up with a wall. It's not fun, but it isn't fatal." You give him a grin, and stand on a table to give him another hug. "Have fun, Sarvesh. I hope you like Heaven's Jewel. It's a nice place."
"As do I." He said, returning your hug with a pincer, and then made his way out.
"I'll be off myself." You say. "Goodnight, all!"
"Goodnight!" Alex said, and waved.
"Mrmpgm mrmph!" Summer said, lil'summer's head in her mouth.

You make your way out, and creep along, tailing Anna as you walk. Eventually, she made her way to her own room, and opened the door - and stopped.
"If you want to come in, you can just ask." Anna said, turning to you.

It's not like she's good at ESP. She's just an ex-mercenary with shitloads of mission experience practising not being snuck up on by trained soldiers.
>>
"Shhh! You're not meant to notice me tailing you!"
"Oh, fair enough." Anna said, and with a slight grin, she turned back to the door. "Huh, I wonder if anyone is following me." She said, her voice sarcastic. "Guess not. I suppose I'll leave my door unlocked in case anyone wants to be sneaky."

"I better level up my sneak skill eventually." You say, and grumble. "Sorry, I just wanted to see if you were going to sneak a peek at Niss."

Yeah, nah. I want to play this straight, but I don't really see how to do so. Let's take a minor risk, and see where it goes.

Either way, the character interview with Anna post thread will be fun.
>>
>>23930199
You pout at her. "I think you're lying."
Anna's cheeks went slightly pinker, revealing one of the many thin scars she had underneath.
"L-lying how?"
"I saw you peek." You say, your cheeks red.

There was a sudden bang, and you found the door hissing open, some invisible force pushing you out of the room, as a whirlwind erupted around you.
Then the door slammed shut.
... You just witnessed Anna using a strange variant of TK.
>>
>>23930346
<Aheh heh he>

What time is it? Time for bed?
>>
>>23930346
Jump up, knock on her door excitedly.

"Anna, you just used TK! This is awesome!"
>>
>>23930346
Laugh loudly, and give Anna a celebratory high five via Technopathy.

Then let's get to bed. Read the book if we're having trouble sleeping.
>>
>>23930337
Or Heather could play it oblivious for now and keep a note of what Anna said for later purposes in mind.

I mean, she said herself in an earlier thread she's not sure about the whole romance thing anyway or if she's even interested in anyone. I don't really see a reason to press other than to just teasingly fluster Anna and probably hurt her feelings once she realizes Heather was doing it jokingly.
>>
You giggle to yourself.
<Aheheheh> You tell her, and make your way to bed.

You lie down, fluffing up your pillow and hugging it, looking to Summer's empty bed on the other end of the room.

You can't sleep, and the book... just can't catch your attention.

After... what Anna said... you have some thinking to do.

I'm sorry for getting riled up @ >>23930291 and causing trouble but this guy, I think, has a real good point about it being kinda early to choose.
Heather's barely hung out with Alex or Jilly enough for the readers to discern where they fall in the mix of things regarding romance. Would it be possible to re-post the poll after/during the beach party instead of now? It seems like the prime place for someone (or Heather herself) to make a move.
>>
>>23930632

Oh come on, boss, it's literally one person that asked you lot, however rudely, to stop and hold your horses and that was me. It's not a matter of being a prude, it just didn't feel right to me for Heather to suddenly jump on the flirtation train to Annaville when she hasn't even been putting much thought, if any at all, to romance anyway.
So why would she switch gears and go into flirty girl modo when she catches a glimpse of Anna's inner thoughts other than to joke around and fluster her?

Eh, damnit. I'll just... Yeah, I'll just go with this:

There won't be an official poll, vote, etc. Things will sprout organically from what happens. There's no iron-set choice, everyone involved are usually hormone-charged teenagers, and you'll have to talk to whoever you've chosen at the time about whatever boundaries the relationship will have.

At least now, Heather will have been thinking about what's going on, how various people have been treating her, and whatever semiconscious intuitions she's picked up with clairvoyance.

Sorry to call things like this, but that's really the only thing I could do from here.

That's not how most teenage relationships work. I'm sure you've been to high school. Relationships come and go like nothing. Being in a relationship for longer than a year is rare as hell.
>>
>>23931291
True, that's not how teenage relationships work in the real world. But you know that everyone is going to try and make their chosen character's relationship be the one that lasts forever, while trying to end everyone else's.
>>
>>23931291
There's a reason I don't like romance set in high-school. I'll gladly suspend my disbelief on this point, if you don't mind.
>>
>>23931291
That's a normal high school. We get to throw all the volatility of psychic powers and cultural differences from multiple planets and species into the mix, with the constant threat of death from the Void Queen making everyone stressed!
>>
>>23931697
Which is more likely to make them not want to add the stress of a serious relationship on top of the stress the Void Queen piles on.
>>
>>23931727
Or it's more likely to make them screw awkwardly because they're thinking "I don't want to die a virgin" or "Oh wow I almost died, better go celebrate life with dickings"
>>
>>23931807
Which can't be considered serious relationships.
