Hey /tg/! Wonderful evening for a civilization quest, wouldn't you say? I've seen many imitators this weekend, but you know where to come for your fix, don't you? Let's get this show on the road!

You are the Long Fangs tribe, a primitive tribe of peoples on the cusp of the Bronze Age. With the assistance of your heroes and the guidance of your gods, it falls to you to guide your people through the ages, steering them through good times and bad, towards their eventual, far-off destiny. Do you think you are up to the task? Can you (to steal a phrase) build a civilization to stand the test of time?

I have to agree with this, we've been thinking about the order for a while.

(Wow, really a slow day today, where is the rest of those fucks?)
>>
>>24017674
I can agree with that, except for:

>E) Have the wise ones try and make the copper scale armor smaller, and able to fit a wolf.

I think that may be a little much for now. I think at the current time even having trained wolves is going to be a big advantage, no need to armor them yet.

Trying to think of something better right now...
>>
>>24017920

If not that, then maybe have them put research into working stone?
>>
>>24017969
That's a good idea and it's been on our to-do list for a while now.
>>
>>24017969
Yeah, we need stone more than armored wolves.
>>
>>24018004
Ok, changing it to this then:

E) Use our bronze tools to begin figuring out how to use all that stone we have.
I) Have people continue to train the wolves.
F) Establish an order around Hrunti, a priesthood dedicated to the wolf god. They will be the elite hunters and woodsmen of the tribe.

We have a shit ton of bronze tools. We even asked him to make chisels for us way back.
>>
>>24018109

>>
>>24018486
Use the time we don't need to spend hunting and fishing to advance our tribe in technology, building and training.
>>
>>24018040
I'll fourth this then. Sorry I'm late.
>>
I propose a long term project for when we figure out how to work stone. A village restructuring project to make the whole place more organized. We need to organize the fields better, build small communities (maybe a hall for the harvest clan, and one around the shrine) to support the fields. Also inside the village we need to structure the place with a singular large meeting hall and other such things.
>>
>>24018637
Good call. Another thing for us to never finish
>>
>>24018582
By the way, this is me. I cheated on you gents with another civ thread this weekend. No worries, it wasn't gratifying in any way.
>>
>>24018040
"What are the properties of stone?" the wise ones ask themselves. After long deliberation, they eventually decided that the greatest advantage is that stone does not burn and thus, can be used to hold a fire. After some experimentation, this line of reasoning yields results! using stone, rather than packed-earth, a new, more space-efficient forge is made for smelting copper and stone-lined firepits become a must-have item for the heads of the tribe's major families. Raised up from the ground, rather than dug into it, these mean less back pain and difficulties when cooking food.

Attempts to train the wolves once again yield limited results. Two of the villagers have to be taken away to have severe wounds treated after a near-disaster in getting too close to the pups. Training a litter of pups spawned in the summer shows some promise however, as they will now come when they see villagers, in hopes of food, while the adults skulk at the back of the pen, before darting forward to steal the meat when it is thrown in.

Oddly enough, when the idea of a formal priesthood of Hrunti is proposed, Derrik (now staying in a hut just outside the village, but seemingly much more spry than usual with winter coming) opposes it. "Wolves may hunt in a pack," he grumbles, "But myself and my young pupil are cut of a different cloth. I don't blame you for thinking it and it's not a bad idea... But we're not ones to gather a huge pack to us. Hrunti learned the folly of that when Trym bested him before; too large a pack makes for harder hunting, what with more mouths to feed, until eventually there's not enough prey for the pack. I may take another student or two, but that is all." Following the meeting, three more villagers are accepted into Hrunti's service. Two young women and one young man are taken to the Wolf Oak to learn the ways of the Wolf God, but no more.
>>
>>24018780
Now if only we could make the stone furnaces big enough so people could live in them... preferably without burning, though.

And I think we might want to rethink our idea of centering our future spec-ops around the order of Hrunti. Perhaps we should create them independently or in connection to our hunters and try and use the followers of Hrunti as instructors/mentors or advisors to them.
If they even have any valuable knowledge to give.

A) Lets send some miner scouts into the mountain and see what if any ore we can find.
>>
>>24019056
B. Rina and them fishes.
G. Craft a forge for the bronze smith.
I. Trade with the Spayers.

Lemme explain mah choices:
G. Ref has a point and perhaps building a forge for the Bronzesmith to work in will make him understand that we are serious about wanting to expand our knowledge of his craft and have decided to give him adequate tools to do just that.
>>
>>24019056
B) Salmon of course
K) Ask them how our people are doing, and inquire whether we may send some more popel and get a few of ours back. Switch them out so they can come back to the village.
E) Continue to get our wiremen to work with our stone, we know we can make forges, but what about fire proof buildings? or walls?
I) Trade with the Spray Folk, lets see what they have.

New to the thread.
Can someone give me the gist of this one?
Like, what's up with our location, what has happened so far in a very redux version or something, and a rough order on how we have developed ourselves?

Also noting that we have no agriculture, which is fine for keeping our nutrition tops (as the first humans who developed this became smaller than their predecesors) but maybe we need one or two renewable food sources, like traps for small animals, and improved recolection skills, which then should lead to improved mid tier preservation (salt) / hoarding of seeds for those times when shit really hits the fan (crude winters, etc).

Also, what about our neighbors, if any?
>>
>>24019401
We have agriculture and fish traps in the river.
>>
>>24019401
We live on the edge of a river, in the center of the river lands. Our history is as followed.

In the beginning we just started out, building our village. Our first great victory was the slaying of the Great White Wolf by the hero Tyrm. This introduced us to the god Hrunti which began our relations with the gods. We also discovered Chani, the river goddess.

From there we discovered the River Brothers, a peaceful tribe to the south.

Later we discovered the Lion Tribe, who we had a conflict with that nearly killed us both. Trym slayed their champion, also got into a duel with the battle god Groza.

Shit, I just realized there is a ton of stuff to go through. Let me think and just update you on our current situation.
>>
>>24019401
Actually we do have agriculture. We currently have fields around the village with a harvest that can last us several months on its own.
Currently I think we have oats and wheat.
Also I think we have some vegetable gardens, some poultry and some cows IIRC.

Perhaps somebody else can fill you in on our history and the rest.

Also welcome.
>>
>>24019401
We also have 4 known neighbors one of which is currently hostile while another is not hostile but not friendly.

Sun People - Hostile.
River Brothers - Nice chaps.
Earthsplitters - Kinda pissy right now but usually alright
Spray People - We hate them, but we can't do anything about it so we trade for stuff.

We had a fifth neighbor tribe. Had. We shant talk about that.
>>
>>24019401
At the moment we have finished with a war against the Sun Folk. That ended badly and destroyed a treaty we had with the other tribes of the Riverland. We are still allies with the River Brothers and have tentative relations with the Earthsplitters. The Lion Tribe has left.

We are just figuring out how gods worth, and found our way to the god woods. Gerin the leader of our devouts (a battle order devoted to Groza) is currently seeking the holy land of his god.

The Sprayfolk, a large tribe by the sea, trades with us a lot and we have some people over there working as laborers. They seem nice enough, but want to manipulate us. They are teaching us Bronze Smithing.

Our agriculture is really large now, and our tribe is set to expand once more. We are figuring out stone working as well.

We worship eight gods Perwan (Harvest God), Emertha (Sun Goddess), Whatshisname (Sun Goddess's Brother), Hrunti (Wolf God), Groza (Battle God), Chani (River Goddess), Yeneth (Love Goddess), Khoine (Winter Goddess)

>>24019528
it's not that bad, they just moved on. We still need to find them.
>>
>>24019401
Technologically we're round about earth 1000bc speaking.

We have copper but know of tribes with bronze which we are having a bitch of a time trying to get.

We have a pantheon of gods:
Groza - Honorable Battle
Hrunti - Wolf God
Perwan - Harvest Goddess
Chani - River Goddess
Yeneth - Goddes of useless shit and love
Khione - Goddess of Snow
Ermetha and Marnath - Gods of the Sun

There is also a demon out there somewhere that wants to devour our Gods.

As far as development is concerned, we have been fairly stable recently due to a massive influx of events that tend to detain us for several threads but have been hopefully put behind us as of now.

Oh yeah, a demon devoured one of our gods and Gerin nearly beat it to death.
>>
>>24019144
When the first salmon are seen in the river, a great cheer goes up from the village and there is a rush for the boats and coracles. A messenger is sent up-river and the day Rina arrives, the fishing begins in earnest. As every year, the fish traps are in constant use and the baskets are full of fish, caught by the spears of the tribe.

The Spray Folk agree that a great deal of time has passed and that there has indeed been some mention in their village of a desire to see home again. Likewise, they speak with their bronzesmith and agree that, while the arrangement has been good to both parties, the time has come to end it. They will return the Long Fangs who have spent so long away from home and in return, their smith shall return to his family in their village. Naturally, they realise that this will cut off the tribe's supply of bronze tools and weapons, but they would be more than happy to continue trading them, if the Long Fangs can continue to pay with valuable goods.

The wisemen continue to look into uses of stone, but they have troubles getting them to stay together in much larger constructions. Add to this, there is the fact that there seems to be very little need for them to construct more fireproof walls or homes, as there has never been a terribly great risk of fires getting out of hand (even less with the new fire pits) and the tribe has no enemies at present. Indeed, the Sun Folk have not been heard from since the war.

What would you like to offer to trade? The Spray Folk bring:
Bronze tools
Copper trinkets
Silver trinkets
Fine pottery
Rough cloth

The Spray Folk are open to requests of goods to bring, upon their next visit.
>>
Just like that another idea came. How advanced is our cooking? can we make stew or do we just eat our meat roasted?

>Soup and stew were great tech, they even doubled life expectancy for early norse cultures.
>Able to do so as early as having stone and copper instruments, perfected with iron.

If I ever tripfag here I'd call myself stupid-who-thinks.
>>
>>24020504
Wait just a fucking second! We bartered to be taught how to make bronze. We still haven't be taught.
>>
>>24020541
still, getting bronze intruments will help greatly to speed our learning, specially if we can also trade for unrefined minerals, to learn how to recognize crude tin. and to test the metal to its limits.
>>
>>24020504
We would like cloth, trade them our furs. Also ask how exactly the cloth is made, if from a plant or something.
>>
>>24020504
Tell the Spray Folk traders this.

"That was not our deal, our deal was to be taught Bronzesmithing. We have been patient with him, and we have waited for him to take an apprentice. You never had any intention of teaching us Bronzesmithing did you?"

Say this to them, to their face.
>>
>>24020605

>>24020527
I also wanted to try and improve our cuisine at some point, for whatever it may be worth.
I think currently our people eat mostly roasted meat/smoked fish and grain porridge.

>>24020605
Do we need that much cloth? Maybe a sample of it so we can figure out how to make it or from what it's really made.
I'd like to have cloth, but bronze tools would probably serve us better right now.

>>24020658
Yes, accusations, even if they are right, might bite us in the ass.
>>
>>24020695
Yes it may, but unless we manage to capture most of their artisans without significant casualties we don't want to start a war yet
>>
>>24020724
We are not starting a war, we are insulting a few traders. I doubt this will pan out to anything greater.
>>
>>24020504
Bronze tools, obviously. We needs em.

I'd like to say this to the bronzesmith:

"You have been here many years and performed many and more services for our tribe and for this we thank you. Without you, our tribe might not have made it as far as it has. As it appears that these new traders have decided to alter our original deal without any warning whatsoever and take you home without having taught our tribe the ways of your craft we can only say that we have appreciated what you have done for us and we harbor no ill will towards you in this matter. We wish you the fondest farewells and hope that your life continues for many years and you find joy."
>>
>>24020735
However, who knows what the traders will tell their masters?
Who knows if these guys won't turn an accusation into an attempted murder in their story?
>>
>>24020782
These men aren't stupid, they know we're the most powerful tribe on the Riverlands and a war would be costly for both.

>>24020772
No, we accuse the traders. I do not think the bronzemsith planned on teaching us. I harbor ill will towards him.

I do not believe reverse engineering it is possible.
>>
>>24020527
Your tribe doesn't have the means to cook soups or stews. Yes, I DO know about boiling in an animal skin or stomach, rather than a metal pot, but your tribe doesn't!

>>24020605
>>24020629
While some of the family chiefs talk angrily to the Spray Folk traders, others of the village barter away much of the tribe's stock of furs, in exchange for lengths of the cloth the Spray Folk wear. They're assured it's tough and easier to work than hide. It's lighter in the summer and more fashionable too, especially when it is dyed, though the traders did not bring any dye with them. Several of the traders show off the (admittedly fairly dull) colours of their clothes as they barter and talk, drawing admiration and desire from the tribesfolk. As to how the cloth is made, they will not say, smirking and acting coy, calling it a tribe secret.

Meanwhile, heated words are being exchanged. "That was not our deal," snaps the head of the Wolfsbane family, "Our deal was to be taught bronze-making! We have been patient with him, and we have waited for him to take an apprentice, but he has done nothing! You never had any intention of teaching us bronze-making did you?"
At these accusations, the traders grow angry, responding shortly that they are altering the deal and that the Long Fangs should pray they do not alter it further! "If he has not taken an apprentice, he clearly did not find any suitable enough to learn the secret art!" snaps the leader of the traders, "Frankly, I am not surprised, if this is how you treat traders and guests!"
>>
>>24020963
I r buttmad.
>>
>>24020963
Several of the Long Fangs grow angry, threatening to hold the bronzesmith until he lets them learn his secrets, but are cut off sharply by the leader of the traders, while some of his companions hastily hold back their comrades who moved to draw weapons in anger. "Need I remind you," he sniffs, "That you are not the only ones with family in another villager? We can end this on good terms and continue trading, or we can turn things very, very bad for your kinsfolk. Which is it to be?"

What do?
A) Keep the bronze-smith as a hostage
B) Let the bronze-smith go
C) Apologise, let the bronze-smith go and make restitution for the insult
D) Attack the traders
E) Other
>>
>>24021040
Kill them, use rocks and throw there bodies in the river, we can afford to lose a few people, we will overwhelm them. We should try to keep the smith alive and after forcing him to teach the skills to a younger man, we kill him with poison, overdosing on the alcoholic juice, then bury him before sending an envoy to inform his kinsmen.

On a side note, we are never seeing those men of ours, they are basically slaves now.
>>
>>24021040
C) "We are not happy with what has happened, but we do wish to continue trading and see our kinsfolk. We feel as if we have been cheated in this deal, and if something of this nature is to happen again I am unsure if we can control our fellows.

Remember, we are a tribe of war. Our history has been forged by conflict and our gods approve. If we are to have conflict, then I fear what will happen to both our peoples. The amount of blood spilled shall devastate both. Take with you a gift, have some extra furs.

As soon as you return to your village we expect our kinsmen to be sent back."

Finally, go and ask the Bronze Smith this:

"Are you satisfied with this? I understand you have been here long and looked for an apprentice. Are you prepared to back out of this deal as those traders have suggested? If you wish you may stay, we plan on building a great forge works and make you proper housing. We harbor no ill will towards you and thank you for the tools you have made. As you have probably been able to tell we are a very quick tempered people and sometimes boil over, but you are always welcome among us should you choose to come again. Take with you this." Hand him some carved bone trinkets of our tribe, someone of our art for him to keep when he leaves.
>>

>>
>>24021171
This. Also prepare for war, but do it quietly.
>>
>>24021316
And if we go to war be sure to fuck their fields, salt their wives, poison their houses and burn their water supply.

>>
>>24021404

Reigning in his anger, the head of the Wolfsbane makes his apologies and offers compensation to the traders. Some of the tribe are angered by this, but the wisest recognise it as a good move to seeing their kinsfolk home safe again. The traders accept the furs and seem to calm down somewhat.
For his part, the bronze-smith does look a little conflicted, especially by the words of the Long Fangs he is leaving behind, but eventually packs his belongings and the gifts he is given and leaves on the boat with the traders, who promise to return the Long Fang tribesmen after winter. The trader leaves his hut in the village mostly empty, having taken his things with him, though he does leave a substantial number of bronze tools as a final gift for the tribe.

EVENT
The salmon run goes on, but is now starting to wind down for winter.

The harvest is brought in from the fields without issues. The negative effects of the depleted fields are even less than last year and it is expected next year's harvest will no longer suffer!

Action Points: THREE

A) Send out scouts (specify direction)
B) Send some hunters out to hunt game and catch fish
C) Gather resources (not food)
D) Gather wild food in the forest
E) Have your wise ones try to solve a problem
F) Hold a cultural event (specify)
G) Craft specific objects
H) Send envoys to another tribe
I) Other
J) Ask the elders for advice (No cost)
>>
>>24022265
B. Rina back in that river if its still going on. Derrik and the girl go out with the hunters for day meat.
C. Gather that wood.
E. Have the wise ones look into enhancing our carpentry skills

We havent looked into improving our huts in forever. Plus in the long run it'll set us up with better skills for masonry if we already have some skills in wood working. Plus our shields and shit are still heavy as can be and our walls are ghetto as shit by now.
>>
>>24022199
B)Fish more with Rina
E) It appears there might be hostilities with the spray folk looming on the horizon research fireproof walls. Stone walls around the village.
G) Begin construction on a large hall outside the city in the field. it will be a staging point for work on the fields, and a gift to the harvest clan.

Seconding this.

>>24022433
With the improved carpentry, we will build the hall next turn or so.
>>
>>24022433
I'm ok with this. The spray folk seem, I don't know, it seems like we might eventually have to fight them.
>>
>>24022417
Seconding this.
>>
>>24022265
how many turns until ominous winter?
>>
>>24022623
One, winter starts on turn 10.

>>24022433
For the first time in a LONG while, we have a tie! You know what that means!

1-3 Josh's suggestions
4-6 Refrek's suggestions
>>
Is the civilization ready for winter? Our huts don't seem vey insulated..
>>
>>24022942
They are the best our current knowledge allows for. They are wooden with mud covering for insulation.
We don't lose very many people to the cold, so it's not too much of a concern right now.
>>
>>24022942
We're fairly good, and we have a winter goddess that keeps the winters fairly mild for us.
>>
>>24022703
As the salmon run tails off for the winter, Rina and the fisherfolk continue to make as much of the bounty as possible, filling baskets, smoke house and drying racks with fat, tasty fish!

With the threat of the Spray Folk possible, the wise ones take to heart the ideas of some of the villagers and attempt to find a way to use stone to construct better walls for the village. It is immediately apparent that this is a project that will take a LONG time to see final results, though it is possible there are other refinements that could be made, as part of the process.

The farming family, calling themselves 'Tillersfane', are delighted with the idea of their own dwelling, even if it is beyond the walls! They set to work at once, along with the rest of the clan, building the long, low hall. It looks like it will not be completed before winter however, though the pillars and most of the walls are raised.
>>
>>24022986
Oh well, stupid stone work.
>>
>>24022986
We should totally work on the walls and the hall until they are completely. Hopefully before the spray folks come back.

Imagine how awesome it would be if they left a stinky little wooden walled village this year and came back to find a stone walled city.

+100 respect and mad props.
