You are Harry James Potter, and you’ve spent the better part of your ten years living in the cupboard under the stairs that your relatives have so generously provided for you. Your parents, you have been told, were a pair of good for nothing hippies that got themselves killed in a car crash. You suspect that your Aunt and Uncle didn’t much like them, or you for that matter.

Much of your days are spent doing chores for your Aunt – mostly out in the garden pulling weeds, or in the kitchen when the work isn’t delicate. When you’re not making yourself useful, you do your best to avoid your Uncle – you don’t think he’ll ever follow through on his threats to take the belt to you, but you’d rather not test him.

In spite of your family troubles, you’ve found yourself surprisingly close to…
>Your cousin Dudley. “No one’s allowed to bully you but him.”
>The family that moved in across the way. “Von Einstein, or something like that. Somber fellow, that one.”
>The priest who lives next door. “A woman and a foreigner… well, at least she takes the faith seriously.”
>One of your new teachers. “He’s trying to figure out what he’s doing wrong with his… other students?”
>The crazy cat lady who sometimes babysits you. “She always gives you sweets, and they always taste like cat.”
>[Other]
>>
>>24078239
You’re life isn’t all that bad, though – unlike some orphans, you’ve got a roof over your head and a family that… well, a family. You suppose you’re fortunate that your relatives didn’t dump you out on the streets to starve to death.

More than anything, your life has taught you…
>Compassion “Helping people is the right thing to do, even if you hate them.”
>Discretion “The less ripples you make, the smoother the sailing.”
>Respect “Life is easier if you treat those above you with dignity.”
>Work Ethic “Those who don’t pitch in, don’t eat.”
>[Other]

All in all, you’ve grown to be…
>Adventurous. “I love to try new things, no matter how dangerous they might be!”
>Ambitious. “I’ll be the best there’s ever been, you’ll see!”
>Athletic. “Team sports, solo sports, I love them all!”
>Bookish. “I prefer a good novel to most people.”
>Competitive. “What’s the point of doing something if you’re not going to win?”
>Inquisitive. “But why does it work that way?”
>Sociable. “Somehow, I always find myself at the center of the crowd…”
>Spiteful. “I hate you, with all of my hate.”

>Spiteful (First to Three)

Your upbringing has left you with more than a healthy dose of misanthropy; you simply don't like people. When someone wrongs you, you go out of the way to make life as difficult as possible for them without singling yourself out as a nuisance. With your relatives being on top of the list of people whom you hate, you've been refining your technique of venegeance with every passing year.

It started with simply trekking mud throughout the house after a long day in the garden for your "Dear" Aunt to clean up. She wised up quickly, though, and so have you. Your little vengeances come much more subtly these days - eggs just a little more gooey than they should be causing a bit of sickness. Leaving the milk out a bit long, so the gluttons get only the sour. That sort of thing.

There are, however, some few people you like, and you imagine that perhaps one day it might be possible for you to have friends. Well, aside from what few you already have, that is...

>Compassion (First to Three)

Despite your general hatred of people, you do realize that no man is an island, and that society, however much you hate its members, is what keeps peoples lives running smoothly. As such, your are extremely pragmatic, and have come to value the ideal of compassion.

You can forgive. You can even help people. This does not temper you hatred, though it does make it quite a bit less evident. You help people! And they help you.

You're relatives, however, are off that little list.

>The Family Across the Drive

Despite all this, you have grown particularly close to the family across the way; a young couple named from overseas named the von Einzberns. Vernon, being as he is, never shuts up about how they're gods damned foreigners, but you being you, you never took that to heart. He can't even get their name right - calls them the Von Einsteins.

You're fairly sure that the husband has taken his wifes name, given that he's quite obvious oriental, though you haven't really found the need to pry. Kiritsugu, he's named, and from the moment you met him you knew you had met a kinndred spirit. Someone with the same emptiness, the same pragmatism, the same spite that you have.

You are something of the son that he never had, though he would never admit it in front of his daughter. Illya would be jealous.

Speaking of Illya, she seems to have gotten into an argument with Piers over the ethicality of Harry Hunting. Well, less an argument, and more siccing that beast of a pet of hers on him. Heracles is a big, friendly dog, but he isn't... well, obvious about it. Especially when he's standing on one of your hated enemies' chest, growling.

You think you ought to...
>Laugh. Loudly.

>Give Illya tips on effective intimidation

"And... and... stay away from Harry if you know what's good for you!"

Illya huffs, puffing her cheeks out and looking far, far, far too much like a girl her age than anyone who had any right trying to intimidate someone. Really, Piers wasn't paying all that much attention to her, and more to the hulking monster of a dog snapping his jaws at him.

"Illya..." you sigh. "Mr. Kiritsugu said that you have to be subtle about scaring people. More like... well, what your father does anytime a boy tries to be friends with you..."

"But I don't have a gun..." Illya whines, far, far, far too innocently for those words. You think you smell... yeah, Piers just shat himself. "Maybe I could use a knife instead..."

"Okay, okay!" he stammers out. "Fine! Fine... no more... no more Harry Hunting! Just... get this beast off me!"

"Heracles~!" Illya sings. "Come here boy!"

The dog jumps off of Piers, and circles happily around Illya. The boy stands up, and doesn't quite know what he's supposed to do now.

You decide to...

"See!" you say. "You're getting the hang of it. At this rate, you'll be up to my level in no time."

"But..." Illya looks confused. "What did I do? I was only thinking out loud..."

"Well, if you keep having thoughts like those, you'll do fine." You nod, watching with no small hint of satisfaction as Piers runs back to the school building. Vengeance was fun, seeing the enemy run with he tales between his legs was just satisfying~.

"Well, wanna head back?" you ask.

Illya nods with a rather sinisterly pleased grin.

The walk back to Privet drive was fairly uneventful. The park was quiet, the air was clear, and Heracles kept anything that was even remotely threatening back. You didn't exchange many words on the way back, nor did you particularly need to. Before you know it, you were outside of Number 7, Privet Drive. You get a strange feeling as you step onto the property, like you're passing through a layer of gelatin.

Kiritsugu is out the door in nearly an instant after the jelly feeling washies over you. He looks... worried. You've never seen that man look genuinely worried before - whatever it is, it can't be good.

"Were either of you followed?" he asks. His head darts around. "No... no, you weren't. That's... that's good."

"Mr. Kiritsugu..." you're not quite sure how to go about asking in a tactful manner, so you decide instead to go straight to the point. "Is it just me, or does it feel like jello out here..?"

Kiritsugu stares at you. Whatever the implications of what you just said, they seem to have caught him completely off guard.

"You have magic circuits?" he asks. "Of course you have magic circuits. That explains the bounded field around your house."

He pulls out a cigarette, and lights it.

"You're a Magus, Harry?" Illya asks you. "That's..." She makes a joyful noise. "I'm sooo~ jealous. Momma's only just beginning to teach me alchemy now, and I can only do the more basic transmutations. Daddy said that the field around your house was really, really advanced stuff!"

"I'm sorry, but I have..." you try to get a word in edgewise, but fail.

"Are you gonna go to the clock tower?" the girl continues. "Momma says that the Clock Tower is where all the best magi go to learn the craft. Daddy doesn't like them though, he thinks they're all lu... lu..."

"Luddites," Kiritsugu fills in with a smile.

"Right! Luddits!" She tilts her head. "You're not a luddit, are you Harry?"

You blink for a moment. Then, after a hesistent second, the words come to you.

"I'm sorry, but I really have no idea what you're talking about..." You scratch at the back of your head, kind of lost in all this talk about magic circuits and clock towers. "So, can I kill people with my mind or something? Like whoosh, I cast fireball?" A though comes to you. "Can Illya, for that matter?"

A dark thought comes to you; it would sure make your life easier if you could just flick the off switch on certain people...

"Illya," Kiritsugu looks thoughtful. "Why don't you and Harry go out back, and teach him about the basics. I need to go speak with Iri about a couple of things, including keying Harry into the bounded field..."

He walks back into the house. Illya motions for you to follow her, and leads you into their backyard. Most of your pleasant childhood memories have taken place here, where you almost felt like you had an actual family. Mrs. Irisviel's garden is a beautiful as usual, and for the first time you're wondering if she uses any of the flowers in her witchcraft.

"The first thing you need to know about magecraft," Illya says, "is that the less people who know how a spell works, the stronger it is." She nods. "That's why magi are so keen on secrecy - if everyone knew that magic was even possible, mysteries would be that much weaker."

"However, some magecraft doesn't involve mysteries. That's what pappa wants me to show you." She beckons you to sit down. "Before we do anything else, you need to open a magical circuit. So sit down, and look deep within yourself." She smiles. "If it hurts for a second, you're doing it right."

You do as she says. It take a moment, but after a while, you feel a lance of pain shooting down your back.

You...

>MAXIMUM PTSD MODE ACTIVATE

A pain lances down your back. You see a pair of cold blue eyes staring at you with murderous intent; a green light flashes, a sickly bolt of lighting striking out in hatred. A woman screams. This all happens in an instant, and you feel... something, something powerful seep into you. In the eye of your mind, it seems to spread like the lines upon the wafers of your cousin's computer.

>Magic Circuits opened: 1/26
>Available Prana: 10/10
>Circuit Count: B+
>Circuit Quality: A

"Illya..." Your eyes shoot open, and you breath heavily, ragged. "What in God's name was that?"

"That," Her smile is far too happy, "Was you opening one of your magic circuits! Everyone has their own trigger for when they channel their prana, though sometimes it can be kind of personal." She tilts her head. "Mine's a fancy golden looking cup - Pappa gets kind of worried when I talk about it though, so don't tell him I said that."

She looks sort of embarassed, you're not quite sure why. Her composure comes back soon enough.

"Anyways, I figure you can try one of the easier excercises now." She picks up a stick and hands it to you. "Envision in your mind all the imperfections in this stick, and try to use you prana to make them go away."

>None Below 9 in first 3.
>FAILURE

You focus on the stick, looking into its structure and composition. Cellulose fibers, wrapped around a central area in a multi helix structure, twisting its way into a knotted structure. You see the gaps between it, flaws in the structure that keep it weak and allow it to be broken. You do as Illya asks, and shove as much prana into the stick that you think it can handle.

"Be gentle with it!" Illya warns. "Too much prana will cause it to..."

You have greatly overestimated the amount of prana that the stick can handle. As you see it now, with your analysis of the structure, it seems to glow as bright as a second sun. The structure begins to quiver, like a hose filled with more water than it has any right to hold. And unlike with the hose, there is no place for the magic to go.

Nowhere but out.

>Prana: 8/10

"...explode."

The stick explodes into tiny fragments. Fortunately, you did not put too much into it, and the fragments puff out like the shards of a popped balloon. The worst injury you hold is a small cut along your cheek.

>>

Not really, it seems the narrative will allow for an in depth description of things as they go on.

There is a wiki out there though, as well as a few anime (only 1 of them was any good, and one of them doesn't truly exist), and of course the VN's which you really should have played already because they aren't bad except for the porn. Nasu can't write porn.
>>
>>24081319
I played most of F/SN but eh, it was not really relevant to my interest.
>>
>>24081331
First route is meh. The other two are much better. Personally I favor UBW. Best girl, best ending from a philosophical standpoint for me. Archer wasn't wrong, neither was Kerry.

The real thing that sold me was the concept of the Grail War itself. 7 servants, 7 masters, 7 way total mindwar. Who had the info determined the outcome just as much as who lucked out on getting the most broken servant.
>>
>>24081243
quick summary of FSN

mages exist in secret

prana = MP

MP can be stored in magical gems or transferred between people via rituals, the most basic of which is sex

magic takes a lot out of you, though, and if you try and do something too high level it'll straight up kill you.

every once in a while there's a battle for the holy grail, said to be able to grant any wish. this is achieved by chosen mages summoning 'heroic spirits', one in each class. (saber, lancer, archer, mage, assassin, rider).
the heroic spirits are legendary heroes (or villains) like king arthur or medusa, they have "Noble Phantasms" which are like special abilities or items (excalibur, for example).

heroic spirits live off their masters magic, but they can power themselves up by essentially consuming the life force of other (primary non-mage) people, which is frowned upon by some

>I'm gonna flip for an hour or so. Missed PoI yesterday.

>>
>>24081499
Even shape-shifted, a Berserker-class servant of that caliber would probably cause vomit-inducing terror in any unprepared magic-sensitive individual with the misfortune enough to get close. Berserkers basically have the unofficial class perk Scary As All Fuck.

So no, Dogacles is probably not Berserker.
>>
I wonder if this universe contains a version of Mad-Eye Moody. He and Kerry would get along like a house on fire c
>>
>>24081243

Nasuverse also encompasses Tsukihime and Kara no Kyoukai. Fate is probably the most well known of the various iterations, though. It's often compared to World of Darkness due to it's breadth and occultic emphasis.

>>
>>24081951
...he'd also kill everyone in the building with them, their (mostly) innocent children, and probably their pets. I prefer Moody's methodology.
>>
>>24082002
Kerry tended to go out of his way to avoid killing innocents. Remember when he took the time to evacuate all the civilians from that hotel before he blew the whole thing up? From a practical standpoint there was ZERO reason to do that, it wasted time and might have tipped off his target, but he did it anyway.

He was a professional killer, but he never quite gave up on the idea of being a hero.
>>
>>24082160
That's true, but he's also incredibly ruthless. He might avoid people who are involved if at all possible, but he would likely kill them if necessary.

Still, I'll admit I was giving Kiri to little credit. I suppose his ruthless nature was just the personality aspect that stuck with me, not his redemptive qualities.
>>
>>24082264
I meant "avoid killing people who are uninvolved"
>>
>>24082160
Well, it's more that evacuating didn't really hinder him blowing up the building at all. Kiri would always try and save as many people as possible, so if he doesn't have to blow them up he won't

>SUCCESS!

"Yeah," Illya frowns, "that happens sometimes. Try using a little less prana, your control isn't quite there for that much yet."

"Alright..."

Ignoring the superficial cut along your cheek, you grab another stick from beneath the cherry tree and move to try again. Once more, the structure and composition of the stick flash through your mind, an understanding that goes even deeper than the cellular structures. The gaps are small, you realize, so you let a trickle of power in.

And then another trickle.

And then another trickle.

And then another trickle. Little by little, the gaps begin to glow just as bright as the flaws are filled and replaced with your prana. Soon enough, it glows with the subtle fire of an ember within your mind's eye - a few spider cracks remaining, too small for you to fill without overflowing.

"Good job," Kiritsugu is outside again, having brought Irisviel out back with him. "You've picked that up fairly quickly; usually it takes a few more times to reinforce something without blowing it up."

"You're daughter is a lovely teacher," you say. "I wouldn't have been able to do it without her guidance."

Illya turns a rather adorable shade of pink at the praise. Irisviel chuckles behind her hands, her red eyes alight with what could only be ideas that you're far too young to contemplate. Kiritsugu just smiles in that utterly terrifying manner of his. You're not sure whether to be in awe of a master, or to be terrified of your father figure.

"I'm sure she is." It is a testament to how much the man likes you that it is only his expression that is scary. "She takes after her mother like that."

Illya gives a big nod.

"So..." you trail off, trying to find a different tangent... "What other sort of magecrafts are there?"

Iri steps up to this one, clearly the more academically minded of Illya's parents. "Well, there are four major schools of thaumaturgy, and a nearly uncountable number of minor ones. Illya and I practice Alchemy, which focuses on the transmutation of matter. Kiri practices Shinsendou, which works with the body's internal energies. I don't know much about Astrology and Kabbalah myself, outside that like alchemy, they both focus on the manipulation of external energies."

Be sure to emphasize that there will be gruelling, back breaking labor involved. I'm fairly sure Vernon will let you come over for something like that..."

"It'll be like you're part of the family!" Illya cheers.

The older man nods. "I'd talk to him myself, but I'm not quite sure about that bounded field that's been set up around your house." He frowns. Kerry's Origin Shot works the way it does because his Origin is "Cutting and Tying" or something like that, so it cuts all their magic circuits and ties them back together all wrong, causing crippling magical backlash. It stands to reason that Origin Shot would work differently if made using another person as the base.

It takes you almost an hour to finish discussing what you and Mr. Kiritsugu will be focussing on for the first couple of months of your apprenticeship. Irisviel intervened on a few occasions, to keep him from turning you completely into a miniature Magus Killer. But by the end, you think you've found a healthy balance between learning magecraft and learning... other usefull skills.

In magecraft, you are going to focus on [Pick Three]...
>Alchemy
>Breathing and Walking
>Bounded Fields
>Crafting Mystic Codes
>Elementalism
>Gradation Air
>Mystic Eye Lore
>Origin Magecraft
>Reinforcement

Outside of magecraft, you're going to focus on [Pick One]
>Capioera
>Marksmanship
>Explosives

Stepping over into Number Four's property, you now realize, holds a feeling much like that of the bounded field surrounding the von Einzbern Household. It's unsettling, you realize, like someone had taken something like the bond you hold with your real family, and twisted it into a pallor mockery. You hate it almost as much as you hate your relatives.

Your return to the Dursley's is greeted with much fanfare, and by fanfare, you mean the screeching of a walrus. Vernon apparently heard from Petunia, who heard from Dudley who heard from one of the teachers in detention hall what Illya and Heracles did to Piers.

"BOY!" he rumbles. "Next time that foreign strumpet of yours steps out of line, it'll be your hide! Tell her to keep that freakish dog of hers on a leash!"

If the British Wizarding World exists as per the novels, we should focus on the stuff that we won't be learning at hogwarts, or will get supplanted by Wizard powers. Marksmanship will also be more useful, since most wand stuff requires aiming, but Capioera might be useful as well, since nobody expects a martial artist caster

http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Magecraft

Here it is;

> A key concept in Magecraft and Martial Arts. Though mainly affects one’s physical fitness, it also play a role in the strength of nature interference. The absorption of outer energy (breath of life) to connect your inner world to the outer world. The acts of inspiring, expiring and everything in between are part of a process that allows one to take in or release the gods. The Magi use incanted spells to cause a specific phenomenon to occur, but those whose breathing, movement, body and very existence can cause nature interference are beyond that.

>An example would be the Shinto practice of banishing evil spirits and other unnatural forces by just clapping. However, this particular skill is something that takes a lifetime to learn.

>Not valued by Western magi, but among the teachings of the east, the techniques of breathing and walking are high-level secrets that can’t just be imitated or easily learned. Therefore, Eastern schools always search for at least one individual capable of mastering them in a generation.

"Yes Uncle." You loathe being so God damned demure about this. It would please you nothing more than to use your newfound magecraft, and take vengeance for his insult. But you don't. Not yet, not now. It is not yet the time.

You can wait.

"Actually," you continue, "Mr. von Einzbern agrees with you. What Illya and I did to Piers was improper, and cruel. He's decided that the only cure for troublemakers is hard work."

And in the mean time, you can use your Uncle's anger.

"He's got a couple of projects out back that he needs a few extra hands for," you say, "and he wants me to join Illya in helping him. Apparently a couple of trees need moving from one side of the yard to another. Says it'll help us build character."

Vernon let's out a pleased laugh. It sounds like a cannon coughing up phelgm.

"Always knew that fella knew what's right," He nods sadistically. "Nothing builds strength of character better than sweat on the brow, that's what pa' always said. Good man, that von Einzbern."

He pauses, as if he forgot something...

>"Good man, that von Einzbern.,, even if he is a foreigner."

"Yeah," you nod along, passing by his chair and 'using' it for balance. You don't bother disguising the loathing in your voice, but Vernon doesn't pick up on it. "He's got a stronger moral backbone than most, I'd say."

Vernon misses the slight, his many chins shaking vigorous in agreement. "Aye. If only more of our countrymen were like that foreigner, then maybe this country wouldn't be going to the dogs!"

>Rolled under 10! Success!
>2 Natural Ones! Partial Critical!

You see the inner workings of Vernon's seat, how the cellulose fibers of the wood are carved into a shape representing the concept of 'chair'. You see the flaws in the structure of its ideal, flaws made wider by the machine production it went through to become a chair. You let your prana trickle through into the cracks, widening the flaws just so, making the structure of its concept weaker.

It does not fall apart immediately. You walk off to the kitchen, to see if your Aunt needs help with dinner like usual. As she sets you to peeling a couple of apples, you hear the crack of wooden frame snapping and the thump of flesh on carpet.

And the whale call of your Uncle cursing 'damn foreign manufacturing'.

You...

>Let your Aunt handle it and continue working on dinner.

You don't bother feigning concern for the predicament that your Uncle has found himself. Aunt Petunia gives you a dirty look that promises punishment if you mess anything up while she is gone before scampering out of the kitchen. Which leave you with one of those rare times alone with the food.

"Damned shoddy piece of junk!" Vernon bellows. "I knew that sale was too good to be true!"

"Dear..." you hear your Aunt say, "Maybe the doctor was right... if you're too big for the furniture, you might need to lose a few pounds."

"That doctor's a crackpot," Vernon grumbles.

"But..."

"Fine, fine, fine," the walrus huffs. "I'll start on this... diet..." the word is spat as though its very syllables were poison. "that he wants me on, okay Pet? But tomorrow."

"Dudley, too?" Your Aunt asks.

"He's a growing boy..." You can feel your Aunt's glare from in here. "Who's probably grown a bit too much, I suppose."

You forgo the opportunity to begin phase two of your vengeance plot with an unpleasantly cooked pork pie. You would suffer nearly as much as they would from that sabotage, as this happens to be your favorite meal (a fact that you are careful to conceal from your relatives). Pork, apples, onions, yams and cider, baked into a pie crust mixed with sage, the greatest of all spices.

You've memorized the recipe; making it as normal is all but effortless to you.

You also decide to forgo practicing your reinforcement on Petunia's kitchen tools. Whatever advantage a more perfect chef's knife might impart to your cooking, it is not worth the risk of it fragmenting like that stick did earlier. Perhaps, when you've got a bit more skill in that particular branch of magecraft, you'll give it another go. For now, it would cause more harm than good.

It takes you the better part of fifteen minutes to prepare the ingredients for the pie. Petunia escorts Vernon into the kitchen, but does little else but fuss over her husband, and spare you a glance to make sure you're not sabotaging anything. Once the mix has the consistency of a thick stew, you pour it into the crust and crimp the dough to the weave of bacon that covers the filling.

You have half an hour until the meal is ready. You decide to...

"Aunt Petunia," you say, "is it alright if I take a run around the block?

"If you come back tracking mud across my floors," she says, "you'll be the one to clean it up, you hear? And if you're not back by dinner, you won't be getting any." You nod, and she pauses, looking a bit thoughtful.

"Have fun, Harry."

It comes out less like a well wish, and more like a command, but that was one of the nicest things your Aunt has ever said to you. Sometimes, you have to wonder, if she'd have been a better person if she hadn't married such a rage arse. But you can't change reality, it's not like a kaleidoscope, where all it takes to see a new picture is a little twist.

"Uh..." you scratch at the back of your head. "I will?

You pace yourself as you run around the block, going a just a bit slower than you feel you could have. Getting in better shape was the secondary objective here, you mostly came out so you could try to work out that multitasking you saw Mr. Kiritsugu do. You bet that if you work hard enough, you'll be able to use reinforcement without having to sit lotus and get your zen.

But there are no sticks around for you to try to reinforce, at least, not without it being painfully obvious what you were doing.

So you try reinforcing [Roll 3d6]...
