Alright, so this isn't going to be one of the usual long threads, as I have to take off at 11:30, so I open this thread and the floor to questions, mechanics, suggestions, and anything you guys would like to know about Ssen, the Dawnchasers, the world of Citadel Kingdom, and anything else about my quest that you might be interested in.
>>
>>24106442
Are Peri and Mari able to talk to eachother without speaking aloud?
From 1 to 10 with 10 being deadman 24/7, how much of a stick in the mud is Lea even during breaks?
>>
>>24106526
Yes, they can communicate with each other privately, provided that they concentrate on it. If it's in the heat of battle, where their focus is otherwise engaged, they'll be talking to each other out loud.

Lea's only a 4 regularly, 6 on a bad day. She cranks it up intentionally to annoy Peri/Mari and its her way of trying to keep them on the proper path.
>>
>>24106442
Exactly how big is the world? Other than Citadel Kingdom and the Empire, we know pretty much nothing - hell for all I know 95% of the world might be encompassed by those two.
>>
>>24106442
Is Mage's vegetarianism permanent, or just a temporary thing while the whole ghoul family trauma blows over.

How many candidates for secretary has Balles scared away before he revealed his slightly less robotic nature?
>>
How many roads must a Lightbringer walk down?
>>
>>24106442
How many allies of ol' daddy are still alive?
>>
>>24106625
It's very much not. The Phoenix Empire is at least as big as the Citadel Kingdom, maybe bigger, no one's been further than the Caged City to see, and the Empire is stingy with maps. There's hints that the Empire has another neighbor, the Princess at least thinks there was, but she was rather sheltered, so hints of rumors is all she knows.

The issue is that the desert to the south and the tundra and the arctic to the north, and the Eastern sea are very big. Anyone who's been crazy enough to lead an expedition has either staggered back defeated, or never returned. There's a little talk of setting up small settlements in the tundra to slowly expand north, or find a permanent oasis in the desert to try to see if the southern desert ends, but nothing comes of those plans. Two guesses as to why there's a lack of people, or strange accidents, and a general lack of interest in exploration.
>>
>>24106716
Makes sense, but if there are other civilizations out there (and no reason why there wouldn't be, especially since even this area was populated for a long time before Citadel), does Citadel keep explorers from those from finding the Kingdom as well?
>>
>>24106700
There's a couple of Paladins who knew him, but there's only one more member of the old Caligo Clarus that you haven't met.

>>24106652
He's slowly working his way up. He's dripping animal fat on his veggies and occasionally he tried chicken. Rare red flesh is still way too much for him, and he will never ever touch pork.

Would you like that list by chronological order or alphabetical?

>>24106669
Just one, it's clearly marked, and ends with Citadel.
>>
>>24106716
Guess 1: Citadel
Guess 2: The phoenix spirit

Some more info about the afterlife would be cool. What does the journey to His Light involve? What do you do when you get there? How is it decided which afterlife you go to? That sort of stuff.
>>
>>24106737
Those that don't have an immediate accident get converted like the Princess was. It's an obvious rush job, like an immune system overreacting, so the converts first look as overblown and obviously loopy as the Dawnchasers were when the Citadel had gotten them.
>>
>>24106751
Why didn't dad get a nice wife (or husband) when he settled down anyway? Just really high standards, or did he take a vow of chastity that Ssen got to skip out on or what?
>>
>>24106758
The Teachings tell it as such, when you die you being the Journey. It's a long path the recounts your life, your virtues and sins, those that stayed to the Light find the Journey swift and easy, those who strayed to the Darkness have it difficult and can become lost from the path for ages, mired in their own pride, self-pity, and grief as they wander the Darkness alone and cold. All hells are self-inflicted and self-made, and even those who were convinced that they were in the right and followed the light, will find themselves lost as the follow a Light that only they can see, that just leads them off into the depths of the Darkness, never to be seen again.

When you reach the End of the Journey you will find yourself by His Side, and then you are escorted to become one with the Light. Which means different things, some say it's a paradise, some say that you are worked into the world as part of its wonder, and some say it is where you slowly drift through all the greatest memories of your life in perfect detail for all time, until you become one with the universe.

The Phoenix Empire's great flame is a more strict reincarnation deal. There are clear rules, and tales of a Celestial Bureaucracy that manages your files and where your ashes rekindle.
>>
I'm kind of curious about the cosmology of the setting, obviously the Light is out there, possibly operating under dozens of different names and variations for different peoples, and one could say that Citadel is a kind of demigod in its own right, but are there other minor gods and such. Like the shrine to the Bear Spirit, was there an actual Bear Spirit who was just too weak and had too few followers to stave off Citadelization, or was it just a primitive culture making up fake gods to explain natural phenomena like the real world.

Beyond that, I can't recall whether there's ever been any mention of extraplanar entities, like demons, do those exist and if so how do they interact with Citadel?
>>
>>24106780
Father actually was married, a rather crazy witch who smoked like a chimney and loved him back. she even let him wear her hat on occasion. Then the assault on the Dramatae happened. And then Father didn't have a wife anymore.

Odds were good that he would have maybe found someone else, had he kept wandering, but then you happened, and River's Crossing was the safest place to raise you, but there was no one there who ever caught his interest.

Good timing. Shield is probably wrong from what I read in the archives, but I had this scribbled already. Still need to catch up and read the rest...
>>
>>24106839
The Bear Spirit is a little of column A and a little of column B. It's a Discworld 'Small Gods' kind of thing. There was a spirit that took credit for some of the 'miracles' that happened to the mountain tribe, and eventually got enough juice to be an entity, but then when it emerged onto the playing field the Dragon WHo Was Of Shadow noticed it, and the Bear Spirit realized that it was WAY out of its depth. So it went away, and then Citadel swallowed up its old followers. However, the Library that it collected while it was 'maturing' still is around.

There's some monster referred to as demonkin, succubi, incubi, etc. And they have the usual bits the tales tell, horns, wings, etc. However, they don't eat human souls, and they're really just another species of monster. The most accepted theory is that they're humans who grew up in areas with pockets of Wild Magic, and it warped them.

Other than those, there aren't any known portals to the Darkness or the Path of Light. Not that it doesn't stop some of the more reckless Conclave students from trying to rip one open, those usually end up with an explosion and broken apparatuses.
>>
>>24106848

Are the Lightbringers specifically selected to be not clever so they will adhere specifically to their roles? Or was that a more recent development as to prevent the chance of a clever Lightbringer mucking things up?
>>
>>24106919
I figured the Dramatae just kind of brainfucked them from an early age to make them grow into what they wanted.
>>
>>24106919
Little bit of both. They don't want them too bright, as there was a close one in the Fourth Age. But they aren't aiming for dumb, more emotionally pliable, and since they control their entire environment, it's easy to mold the weak willed to do what they want. That's why the emo types and the emotionally insecure are favorites. They want Shinji Ikaris and Cloud Strifes. People who can be led by the nose with just a vague promise of 'revenge' or 'understanding.' Which is why you're a pain int he ass, because you've denied the boy his chance at revenge. He's not sure how to feel about that, really. That makes him unwilling to go forth and 'fulfill his destiny' which has slowed down the entire damn process. So, overly sensitive emo-ness is working in your favor and saving the world for once.
>>
>>24106972
So do the future lightbringers grow up in environments like that from birth? Have they literally never been around people who were not npcs giving one-line answers?
>>
Hey Echo, just wanted to pop in and let you know I have really enjoyed reading this. I am fourteen threads into the archive and counting, hope to catch up soon!

Keep up the good work, my friend.
>>
>>24106994
Sure must've sucked to be them.
>>
>>24106994
No, there's the 'cut scene' people. If they aren't people who are being controlled by the Dramatae or the Dramatae themselves, most people do just utter one word sentences to them. It's a method to isolate them and keep them in the little bubble of people that the Dramatae want them to talk to. Their social skills are deliberately stunted, so they don't do things like ask follow up questions, or wonder 'now WHY do you need twenty bear pelts?'
>>
>>24107048
They'll all get killed off anyways.
>>
>>24107054
Twenty bear pelts would make a bitchin' rug.
>>
>>24107066
No no. The Dramatae never kill the Lightbringers. They ALWAYS sacrifice themselves. They throw themselves over a bomb, or to seal a rift, or allow themselves to be possessed and then killed to banish the evil, or the kill a Shaper of Darkness forever and ever by sealing them inside a void, etc. etc.
>>
>>24107054
>'now WHY do you need twenty bear pelts?'
"I just really, really hate bears, okay, fuck those hairy hibernating bastards!"
>>
>>24107107
So what sort of 'great evils' do the Dramatae use to finish Lightbringer stories. I'd imagine it's a bit of a balancing act between making something that looks like a credible threat without making something that's enough of a threat to dick up their plans.

Or is the big evil just a Dramatae in disguise hamming it up?
>>
>>24107157
>please_ignore_the_masked_man_behind_the_curtain.gif
>>
>>24107107
How large is the area that is under elvish control? Are there any major cities that they hold or is it mostly forests and other remote regions?
>>
>>24107185
>Oh god! Why aren't the pyrotechnics working?!
>>
>>24107157
It can vary. In extreme cases, like the FOurth Age one, yes the Dramatae stood in themselves.

What they do more ofter is take a monster or a known criminal and snatch them, wipe their brains (Like the Underwasp Witch, or the Fell King) and use them as puppets. They always 'manage to escape' to the ned where they prepare themselves to unleash a great evil/rule of Darkness/age of sorrow/etc on Citadel in some suitably impressive, crystal filled arena.
>>
>>24107204
How easy would it be for a competent soldier to kill a lightbringer, with their long hair and oversized swords?
>>
>>24107204
By the way: Robin Goodfellow is the best rogue, major kudos for him Echo.
>>
>>24107199
If you mean the Fey Court, there's no centralized city that they hold. They dwell mostly in tent cities, groves and caves that are in the woods that are free of Citadel.

But technically the large wood around first wood is mostly under their control about a mile and a half away from First Wood, albeit it very loose control as only so many elves can cover so much ground.
>>
>>24107218
Harder than you think.
The Dramatae rig the odds and give the Lightbringers unseen buffs.
They didn't count on Ester, Mage's sister, being smart enough to poison the healing supplies, so the Lightbringers killed themselves before the Dramatae realized it.
>>
>>24107323
Are they actually capable of fighting without Dramatae interference, or are they so used to it and reliant on it that without the Dramatae, they'd get shanked by some petty thug halfway through charging up their ultimate supermoves?
>>
>>24107390
Eh, they aren't hopeless in combat. They know the moves, but in actual combat? Oh yeah, they'd be dead quick. Armor's wrong, weapons are barely functional, and a host of other reasons.

But if you gave them real weapons and proper armor, then they could at least survive maybe one battle and possibly last a month.
>>
>>24107446
Which party member is the lewdest? Which is the least lewd (excepting Lea because too easy)?

How long ago was the cure that left Lea bandaged? (Might have come up when we first heard her story, but I can't remember it)

If Mari was so dumpy in her original body, why was she chosen as a new vessel? Did grandma just not care about looks, given how much time she must have had to plot things?

If a Ghoul got stranded on a deserted island, and was forced to live on plants and the occasional bird/fish/small animal, what would happen to it?
>>
>>24107446

Are the Dramatae individually powerful, or are they just that way since they have the resources of an entire continent at their disposal as well as the support of Citadel?

Have the Dramatae ever considered what they would do if Citadel became real bored with the Lightbringer tale?
>>
>>24107538
Peri was going to be the vessel.
>>
>>24107538
>Which party member is the lewdest? Which is the least lewd (excepting Lea because too easy)?

Honestly? You and Tricia together, separately you're fine, but when you two flirt or do little touches...yeah.

Mage is the prude, even more than Lea. Mostly because he's terrified of you four.

>How long ago was the cure that left Lea bandaged? (Might have come up when we first heard her story, but I can't remember it)

She had the operation when she was eight.

>If Mari was so dumpy in her original body, why was she chosen as a new vessel? Did grandma just not care about looks, given how much time she must have had to plot things?

Granny wanted youth. There would be plenty of time to deal with her baby fat and fat fat once she was in her new residency. Not to mention she knew Sandover and his beauty treatments.

>If a Ghoul got stranded on a deserted island, and was forced to live on plants and the occasional bird/fish/small animal, what would happen to it?

If it had gone too savage, eat their own limbs. A rational one would survive and then chow down on whomever was unlucky enough to find/rescue them.
>>
>>24107601
And yes, thanks to Mari wrecking her body with the poison, Peri was set up to be the new vessel, which was just fine by Lady Glenn.
>>
>>24107601
Huh, so even rational ghouls can't un-ghoul usually, if given enough time without humans to eat?
>>
Echo, as someone who avoids posting on 4chan as a matter of pride, I have to break my vows of lurking to say something.

Fuck you. I have never before been addicted to one of /TG/'s shitty quest threads until you came along. I have wasted far too many evenings f5ing my keyboard to death because of you.

Well played, and well done. Keep up the good work.
>>
>>24107649

Yeah, Lamia Quest does that to people. Stay up until three in the morning with my finger hammering F5?

Fuck the roommate! Fuck the physics! Fuck the ability to stay awake in class!
>>
>>24107619
>Huh, so even rational ghouls can't un-ghoul usually, if given enough time without humans to eat?

Not unless they want to, or have help.
>>
>>24107649
> f5ing my keyboard to death
You know you can just check the little Auto box at the bottom of the page and it auto-updates, right?
>>
>>24107649
There is an automated update function now. Been there for some time.
And there's been 4chanX since forever.
>>
>>24107707
Oh hai Essvee, is jedi quest canceled?
>>24107649
Theres an auto update feature you know.
>>
>>24107793
Now now, you can help him, but I take every busted F5 as a trophy and symbol of pride. And please! Lurk no more, I am a welcoming GM and the more stuff I can work into Ssen's dialogue the better. Plus I offer rerolls as incitement, which you always need because redaeth is apparently cursed by the dice gods. (I kid cause I love pal, you've been with this since the start and I wish nothing but good vibes on you, but your luck witht he dice just makes me laugh and laugh)
>>
>>24107793

Hiatus, but we're not talking about that here.

Oh, the auto-update feature? Most of the time I'm too impatient to wait for it. Even on the ten-second cycles.
>>
Saying one uses the auto update function religiously just doesn't imply the same level of addiction as "fuck you f5 key! I will break you!"
>>
>>24108213
I wont deny it, it does boost the ego a chunk to hear of such addiction and devotion.

Out of curiosity, what is the thing that makes you lurkers feel that my quest is worth breaking your keyboards, so I know what to keep the focus on. Is it the character banter, the small plots, the world building, or the over arching story, and please don't say the whole thing. I like to know specifics.
>>
>>24108373
>please don't say the whole thing. I like to know specifics.
Well specifically it's the good bits.
>>
>>24108373
The whole th-oh.

Well, first off, I think the world is pretty interesting, even if I'd love to see more than just Citadel and vague stories of the Empire from the princess. The storytelling conceit used as a way to explain things about the world without being too meta is also nice.

It's fun to play an actual paladin for a change - for as much as /tg/ loves lawful good, actual paladins don't seem to get much love, ad it's interesting to play a quest from that perspective. With the plot and our MC being a monstergirl, it makes for a lot of fun contrasts and challenges that a regular human paladin guy, or a run-of-the-mill monstergirl quest don't really offer.

Finally, Ssen is adorable, and the party is pretty cool and well fleshed-out. Also Tricia hits basically all my weak points as a love-interest (particularly the whole childhood friend of a societal outcast schtick).
>>
>>24108373

The fleshed-out characters, to be honest. So I guess that would be a combo of the small plots and the character banter. The whole overarching story is also great, but the way the characters deal with the problems that come along as well as seeing how they deal with downtime and generally them being themselves makes them more believable.
>>
>>24108373
As a lurker, who started posting anon and then with a trip entirely because of your thread, I'd say three things:

1) The world you've built. It's clear that you constructed a detailed world that we're exploring, rather than making it all up as we go along. So, on the one hand it never once felt like we were on rails because we have so much freedom, and on the other hand you've got such a coherent world of details waiting for us everywhere we go. One of the reasons I do so much backreferencing of old threads: you tie everything together so well. Playing or reading your quest is like going through a well-plotted series of novels that drops details in book 1 that come up again in book 4.

2) The writing. You can paint quite a picture with words, and evoke exactly the reaction you're hoping for. If you want us to get angry with something, your writing gets us to rage at it. If you write something touching, you've got all of us going d'awwww.

3) The characters. Great heroes with quite a bit of backstory and personality. Great supporting characters, from the elegant to the comic relief. And some of the most ominous, threatening, and compelling villains I've ever seen, simply because they're such a different, less common and more subtle form of evil.
>>
Well, thank you for all your kind words, and I'm glad I could answer a few questions. I have to go for a moment, but I will be back and the threat will restart 7-8pm PST. Hope to see you there.
>>
>>24108373
1)The character interactions for me, especially Ssen with Tricia, they are just adorable together.

which is why I was a bit disappointed with the shedding scene, it lacked our usual dialogue with Tricia, we never even replied to her asking if we needed help.

2)The fleshed out world, you actually have background for most of the stuff ready, and we have real long term goals inside the world. Its not being thrown together on the spot.
>>
Granny has shown a lot of control over her fangs and can heal/energize others. Could we learn to do anything like this in the foreseeable future?
>>
The world is fascenating, but for me the characters really sell it. They're all so interesting, and I love the rapport between them. Also, Ssen is just about the most perfectly played Paladin ever, and that she's a monster upholding these values makes it that much better. My little group of murderhobos are all rogue at heart, so Ssen's paladin perfection fills a huge gap in my RPG life.

Sigh. Echo, you're brilliant. Any tips on getting players to want to be righteous? And, thank you for running. I know Ssen's moral center sort of came from us, but you make it so damn enjoyable to follow His Light.
>>
>>24108373
I like the dialogues, which feel pretty organic.
Also the explicit statements against the fantasy cliches and roles. All pretty fresh and intelligent. Not everthing is to be taken at face value, but at the same time it's not deceit behind every corner and people aren't friend/foe unconditionally and by default.
Just joined into a thread head-first two days ago, though. So I might not get half of what the political organizations are /do.
I think the party is a bit too lewd/focussed on sexual stuff for my tastes, though.
It kinda undermines the mindset the world otherwise seems to emanate.
Political intrigue, criminal magic abuse and tender lesbian sexings are not the most homogenous of combinations, making it come off rather chunky where it could be creamy investigation.
>>
>>24108638
Make righteousness awesome, give them a role model, and reward what they choose to do, regardless of good/evil. If they're stupid, poke them a bit.

Good rewards are generally more influence (less money, better access to shiny equipment, and allies).

I'm sure Echo has better advice, though.
>>
>>24108373
I just like stories, if I start one, I have to see it to the end.
>>
>>24108373
I came for the adorable snake ladies.

I stayed for the righteousness.
>>
>>24108775
>implying we don't need tender lesbian sexings

Chaste perfect paladins are fine, but Ssen is a long shot from the perfect paladin.

Though, she TRIES.
>>
>>24108988
On the contrary, Ssen *is* the perfect paladin. She has the righteousness down, with a boundless capacity to forgive and a ton of Diplomacy to talk people into or out of anything, without having the usual immovable rod up her tail.
>>
>>24108988
I like to separate my questing and my boners rather resolutely.
>>
>>24109055
4chan won't let me post my picture because it has embedded files? whatever.

I don't think ssen is a perfect paladin, she has troubles leading a good sermon, she hardly ever makes any holy vows, she isn't actually super educated on her own holy spirit, but most importantly:

She hasn't died yet, and that tends to be the best part for paladins.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qC2P7QYjaE

>>24109112
Hence the smut being in the pastebin, and not in the thread. The thread only gives me HNNNG level adorability, not really boners.
>>
>>24109112
fastest way to kill immersion is to cut sex out of a world, especially one where you are traveling with a love interest and both know either of you could die in the next battle.
>>
>>24109218
actually, the fastest way to kill immersion is CITADEL.

HYU GET ME 20 BEAR PELT

KEEL 50 GOBLIN KING, GAIN GEM
>>
>>24109237
Exactly. Cutting sex out is something Citadel would do
>>
>>24109253
Well, for lightbringers.

Maybe not monstergirls.

Our teammates DID tell us we're a bit more giggly and lovey dovey inside of citadel influences. It could be entirely true.
>>
>>24109267
That's because for Citadel, the Lightbringers are the PCs
>>
>>24109267
Interesting. This is worthy of consideration.
>>
>>24109237
>>24109253
except citadel actually needs people to have sex to expand its influence/subjects.

If it discouraged sex then its subject populations would drop instead of expanding, and citadels entire 'thing' is expanding and getting more subjects it seems.
>>
>>24109253
No, Citadel's the one that pushes for harems and sex; it's a thousand year old genius loci with the mind and libido of a teenager.

>>24109218
We fairly clearly have quite a lot of it with Tricia whenever we have the chance; it's just implied and fade-to-black rather than explicit.
>>
>>24109324
>citadels entire 'thing' is expanding
I bet it is.
>>
>>24109324
>>24109331
Well, things obviously have sex in citadel zones, even lightbringers. I think it might just be distasteful for lightbringers to do it.

>>24109325
Well, we ARE going for the harem ending.
ranseurXclangyXtricia oh my~
>>
>>24109325
It pushed us for harem and sex. It didn't like the Lightbringers having sex. The Dramate said so.
>>
>>24109325
oh yes i know we have it, i was replying to the people saying we *shouldn't* be having sex because we are a paladin, and pointing out how stupid that is.

which is ridiculous because even priests had families and children until rather recently when Christianity went all 'everything is a sin, priests must be PURE and sex is impure!'
>>
>>24109218
Not really cutting out the existence of sex, but the giggling, massaging and caressing does get a bit distracting.
As I said, I do like a resolute division. LotR levels of clean.

Outside of that, I wouldn't mind if they grew cocks, fucked the Nightmare and raped their own parents, were they alive to take on all these throbbing girl cocks.
See? I'm getting distracted already.
>>
>>24109359
I don't think Citadel minds the lightbringers having sex, the Dramatae don't like that, because they feel it's degrading to their sacred duty.
>>
>>24109373
They are People and in love. Some signs of affection are pretty normal
>>
>>24109373
>>24109409
Also, I can confidently say like 40% of that is to make mage more uncomfortable in his lifestyle choices.
>>
>>24109409
I don't say it's abnorm. I say it's distracting.
Okay, let's face it. I'm Mage.
>>
>>24109373
this right here
>>24109409
they haven't even been together for a year yet.

also /tg/ loves adorable, and Ssen and Tricia giggling/caressing and messing with the rest of the party with it is pretty adorable.

actually that is one of my biggest gripes with LotR, its far too clean, the characters don't feel nearly as real as they could if there had been a few actual relationships in the story.
>>
>>24109474
>>24109446
I have to say at least 40% of that is designed specifically to distract you.

Because he's in a group of dangerous and attractive ladies and has to deal with NONE of them being into him.

Though, he does have a girl back home, which makes me happy.
>>
>>24109477
I dunno, there was a sort of sam/frodo thing going on.
>>
>>24109522
close friendship, amplified by their time relying on each other from the journey to mount doom.

wouldn't consider it a real relationship, and I cant remember exactly but i dont think anything ever happened between them.
>>
>>24108557
Thanks for running the quest Echo, it may be on at awful times for me so I can't participate, but I love reading it!
>>
>>24109674
well, enough talk about that.

What's mage going to do with our snakeskin? I am suddenly curious. We're made of a lot of poison. Maybe something with that?

Such is the life of the pacific coast dweller. All my games are either super late or super early.

But lamia quest? convenient in timing. Since we're in the same timezone.

Caution, possible snake oil spillage.

Oh jeez, I thought that was a myth.

But maybe not for lamias.

It is not where a lamia is backrubbed correctly.

A bit late but that lady at the healers reminded me. When do we get the option to Smite Evil? I know we're trying to convert and all that but still it would be handy to know we had.
>>
>>24110011
well, we've never really TRIED to smite evil. It's generally "constrict evil until it's spine breaks", if it comes down to that.

though we REALLY need some lay-on-hands. Maybe the cups guild can explain the basics to us.
>>
>>24110011
I somehow doubt that we have one. It honestly seems too clean, too simple, too cut-and-dry and easily digested to have a "Smite evil" ability.

It's too Citadel. It's why Citadel made the Red Occuli, really.
>>
>>24110011
>Bind mace to tail
>Smite evil
>>
>>24110083
I would really like to be able to smite injustice though.

Evil's relative, but light help you if you're a dick about it.
>>
>>24110092
Shit I forgot about this Idea.

We need to do this, and as an additional bonus, adding a weight to our tail-tip will give us some hella good muscular training.
>>
>>24110150
What does Tricia weigh?
>>
>>24110150
>>24110092
This seems like a tunnel dream.

Just like tailsocks.
>>
So can we talk about the idea of Lea becoming this world's first Kamen Rider?

Am I the only one who thinks she would fit the role flawlessly?
>>
>>24110186
Just like using our tail as a catapult to launch Lea into close combat fastball special style?
>>
>>24110197
See, I WAS thinking we should be delivering justice kicks with all of our righteousness, but it's impossible because of our snake tail.

But you bring up a marvelous point. Lea has the training to deliver a rider kick. and enough justice in her to deliver it properly, as long as we curb her zealotry. Remember that one time she dented a prison door?
>>
>>24110245
Remember Barney's bicycle?
Add a magical power source akin to an empowered Phantom Steed enchantment.

Motorcycle.

Plus, she has a reason to wear a mask.
>>
>>24110245
as a side note:

If we ever fall on a villain, we have to yell JUSTICE KICK!

Since it is the only time we would ever conceivably be able to call something a kick.
>>
>>24110272
I wonder why barney isn't using runes. Are they just an industry secret?

If we got a runesmith like quentin to work with barney, what kind of shit would be produced?

Should we get a chariot for Ssen? It would allow her to 'ride' a horse, sort of.
>>
>>24110272
But what would a caligo clarus rider look like?

Also, how do we even get lea into armor, she seems like she dislikes anything but the light stuff.
>>
I'm pretty sure Beacon can Smite Evil.
>>
>>24110407
Well, I don't know about if it technically can, but it certainly looks like it does.

Especially since it "flares" after 5 hits, whatever that means. It's probably cool. Someone will add it to our legend later.

Insectoid motif, (Tricia woul be all up ons designing this).

Light armor would be perfectly fine for Lea, considering that's standard Rider attire.

Okay, so after our retirement, lea is going to be a rider, obviously.

Tricia is going to be with us, doing whatever it is we do. We'll decide together.

Peri/meri will be working on immortality schemes.

What is mage's retirement?
>>

Kids' birthday parties and the occasional Bat Mitzvah.

No lizard dudes, be they lamia, reptile, or dragon. For some reason nature cursed our races to be actively dissuaded from fucking.

Only ladies, or non-lizard dudes.
>>
Well, if turning off the Citadel 'niceness' turns this place into a world where everything goes south, then we should make sure that the Newgates don't go all Game of Thrones on each other.

Although I think Isen's reaction to that would be to grab Tara and get on the first ship that's leaving Stone Hall.
>>
>>24110901
I really, really hope they're all too fat and stupid to do that. Intrigue with the royals is the last thing we need when trying to foster an industrial and cultural revolution. A double renaissance.

I smirked internally at the Indian Burn remark.
>>

Considering that the vast bulk of them were zoned out any time we saw them who knows what might happen. By the sounds of what Peace said, there might only be a handful of Newgates that aren't a bunch of layabouts.
>>
>>24110971
>all too fat and stupid
>vast bulk
>>
>>24110963
If our kid takes after us more than tricia, it's almost certainly a possibility.

I would be pretty proud. And dissapointed. Both at once. It's a weird thing.
>>
>>24111023
Parenthood is a weird thing.

Also I see Ssen being the Atticus Finch parent. Just imagine the scathing, bone-piercing fury of the disapproving parental glare as delivered by a Paladin of Ssen's caliber.
>>
>>24111066
That is, I think, one of our strongest points as a paladin.

We are especially good at disapproving glares. I wonder if it's the snake eyes, or the reasoned convictions that does it.
>>
>>24111066
I feel certain we got that look at least a few times growing up, so we know what it feels like from the other side, and how much weight it carries.

(And I doubt we'll only use it on our own snakelets, either.)
>>
>>24111220
Disapproval for everyone! Perhaps even the dreaded "talking to", if the case is severe enough.

or the bag

Jokes aside, I do wonder about Lea sometimes. I noticed this when trying to come up with over-the-top titles or deeds for http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24089645/#p24096914 (accidentally anon due to posting from my phone); it also came up back when we were enacting miracles to prevent a lynching and several more times when we were trying to solve problems that aren't solved by combat.

Ssen is the Paladin Serpent as well as being easily the best in combat (and is our main PC so we tend to use her by default anyway); Mari and Peri have two minds in one body, with the child scholar supplying random knowledge and the rogue supplying the usual feats of roguishness. Mage has magic, Ghoulish and otherwise. Tricia has her bugs, and the ongoing romance plot. What does Lea have? Paladin tasks tend to fall to Ssen in most cases (though Lea gets to play the immovable-rod-Paladin role when needed), Lea's fighting prowess only really serves as an extra body in combat (where we mostly focus on Ssen's actions), and her musical talent doesn't come up very often (apart from the marvelous modified melodies for Isen and Tara).

We should try to find more ways to make use of Lea outside of combat. Her martial-arts skill shouldn't just come up in a fight; let's remember Lea (and not just Mari/Peri) next time we need some feat of agility, climbing/parkour, etc. Lea has musical talent, yet we've never had her try her hand at any of the things a party typically uses a bard for; does she even carry an instrument with her?

tl;dr: let's try to find more situations where we'd turn to Lea.
>>
>>24111367
(To clarify: she's a great character, with an interesting enough personality to get her involved in dialogue fairly often; it just doesn't seem like we turn to Lea very often to get things done, and we do with all four of the others.)
>>
>>24111367
Honestly? I had figured she was busily writing songs in the background. And lea's pretty spectacular, we just failed as hypemen a bit. I mean, she can punch dents in doors and holes in dudes. Paladin of Paladins might have been the wrong title. Maybe woman of steel.

Also, Ssen might not be the best combatant. Lea is pretty comparable. Though, I've not actually kept track of killcount.

She seems good at leading a congregation. But we're the ones who tend to be asked to do that. Hmm.
>>
>>24111367
I think I might have a one track mind, because I keep wanting to engineer ways for lea to be more like kamen rider.

I think we haven't been using her bard abilities as much because those feel like boasting.
>>
>>24111429
Lea's definitely good in combat, but in combat we focus on Ssen, and she's always the one fighting the biggest or most threatening opponent. Plus Ssen can attack with both weapon and tail at once. We also tend to go for combat-ending moves like wraps or tail-disarms.

I just don't feel like there are enough situations where we turn to Lea outside of combat. In a way, she's closest to acting as the party fighter, who tends to have the same good-for-one-thing problem in most parties, but even non-combat feats of strength would tend to fall to Ssen.

What *would* we turn to Lea for outside of combat that we wouldn't turn to someone else for first?

>>24111458
> I think we haven't been using her bard abilities as much because those feel like boasting.

I was thinking more of things like playing a hymn of the Light to drive back oppressive darkness (rather than always having a prayer from Ssen), or entertain/distract a room.
>>
>>24111253
You sick bastard. Ssen would never stoop so low as to use the accursed B-word. She might get tangled in it herself
>>
>>24111585
>playing a hymn of the light to drive back oppressive darkness

well, we always DID like "smite the darkness". I think we're doing the prayers religiously, at this point, since we're not entirely sure they'll work, but we feel they do.
>>
>>24111367
So what you're saying is that everyone forgets Lea until she punches a hole in some guy's chest for corrupting the teachings of His Light, got it.
>>
>>24111636
Now now, sometimes it's the only way to deal with an unruly child. After all, what would you do if they bit someone in a tantrum?

I love bag/lamia interactions

Not at all. If he's actually a dragon.

He could be, like, a frog prince or something.
>>
>>24112071
That's exactly how I imagine him except less insane and crystal obsessed and more harmless eccentric.
>>
>>24112115
>>24112147
If he is like that he reminds me an awful lot of a Silver Dragon NPC I had in a campaign once. He masqueraded as different races, spending a decade or two mastering a craft or art. The campaign never lasted long enough for the party to figure out who he really as, though they were suspicious.
His mate was fun too, a Red that was less burn and pillage and more of a Carmen Sandiego figure.
It got real fun when he would make something for her, and put it in a museum so she could get the thrill of "stealing" it
>>
>>24112210
Haha, dragons. Though, we should still be wary. he DOES have a reputation for coming back alone.
>>
>>24112210
Oh man. Just imagine the level of traps you can make and still consider it "non lethal" when you're making something to challenge a Dragon.
>>
>>24112239
To be fair, they're "hunting trips". It could very well be them deciding to attack him and getting scared off and eaten by tge Dark Peak locals or an honest accident due to separation. "Hey guys, wait here I'll lure thr dragon out!"
>>
>>24112115
>If he's actually a dragon.
Yes this.

> <You, Dragon?>
><No, not here. Later.>

It could either mean he's not a dragon but will explain more, OR is one but doesn't want to risk blowing his cover.
I think we've explored the later option enough, what about the former? Picked up a translation spell? Learned to speak it the hard way? Is a part dragon descendant of a non-corrupted one?
>>
>>24112275
Yeah. To be fair.

But, since there has been a lethality rate, be on guard.
>>
>>24112239
Aye. Though I suspect that's largely due to obnoxious DRAGON HUNTAHS.
>>24112243
Oh it got fun. Though I suspect the party would have been a bit pissed had I revealed that this ridiculously skilled art thief they had chased across the world was just a coy game between two dragons. No crime committed, just them caught up in the ride on their own volition as they took the case EVERY TIME it happened.
>>
>>24112326
I'd think he's part dragon based on his story. Might've been his parent he saw as a kid before they left him with humies so that he wouldn't be in danger. He probably would've learned the language with a fuckton of research trying to find out more as he grew up.
>>
>>24112391
Quite possible. We should grill him on it, once he's comfortable.

>>24112372
>>24112275
Though, the danger isn't here yet. It only gets REALLY dangerous, we hear, after the bear shrine. We're not going past there until we want to investigate the strange spirit we heard about.

On the topic of dragons, one crazy thought:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23791319/#p23794678
> Lanterns were what those who followed the Caligo Clarus Paladins were called

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24089645/#p24093889
> "The coins, I know why they don't work. There's something wrong with them. It's a double bluff, they made the First Lantern into the Coins, and then the Dramatae or the last of the Dragon's offspring tainted them somehow. They're corrupted."

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24089645/#p24100711
> "Well, it has to do with how much of...I suppose you could call it a corruption or a disease. Most dragons are silver by birth, usually the stones or other elements that they live by cause their hues to slightly change color. But some get...I guess infected is the best term. It turns their scales this strange white color which then can be further colored by that earlier process. Turning 'Corrupted White' drives them crazy, to the point where they become needlessly aggressive. Now a pure Silver Dragon...oh, and one that calls itself an Old One...that would be a creature that predates the Citadel ages. One that's still maintained all the dignity and self-awareness, I hope that after all that time it would have elevated itself beyond pure basic creature instincts."

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/23868582/#p23870235
> It's a coin that's made out of a white metal that shines and glistens like fallen snow.
> you hold in your hand a fragment of the First Lantern.

We've had much speculation about the real form of the First Lantern, and the nature of the Lantern coins. What if the Lantern coins got formed from a dragon's scales?

>>24115735
Not the best idea while Citadel holds sway, as a lamia bite is pretty much instant death against us and all of our companions, and Citadel would try and make them be hostile.
