You are the voices in Scout Commander Scott Yellowman's head. You can tell him to do things and exert a moderate amount of influence on his actions.

You must guide the veteran soldier as he attempts to make it through an inter-dimensional death race with the promise of a powerful artifact as the prize. An artifact that has the power to send him home. Entering the portal to the first stage of the race, you, Yellowman, and a Zoq-Fot-Pik named Fat-Fot-Pot are falling through time and space towards your destination.

Insanity and the whims of fate hammer you at every turn in...

YELLOWMAN QUEST!

So FFP is Dextrous, can Scan, can Sneak.
It's healy, scouty, and we've got some cloud attacks.

We've got a few guns and a hookshot, plus some stuff we haven't identified yet.

Question.
How loyal is Fat-Fot-Pot to us?
If it gets injured in combat, is it likely to run away?
If we're going into a risky situation, will it desert?
I'm wondering just how much leeway we have with FFP.

Yellowman and Fat-Fot-Pot plummet through a corridor of multicolored light, dragging you along for the ride given that you are voices residing in the former's head. Then the golden Tarot card, the Fool, pulses warmly and all goes black, even for you.

"New York City," a pleasant female voice says as an image of the metropolis begins to appeal in the midst of the darkness. "Circa 1982. A prototyping laboratory hidden under Battery Park is testing a teleportation gate, the first of its kind. You must reach this lab and enter the gate. Your card will automatically activate it and send you to the next stage when you do. Don't get hurt!"

The darkness peels back as awareness returns to you and Yellowman. You at the top of the Statue of Liberty, overlooking New York. There is no one else around, but there is a small crowd you can see milling around the base of the statue.

Posting issues, sorry for the delay.
>>

Hey Scott. The card told me we need to go to Battery Park, and it's roughly 1982.
We got any way of concealing weapons?
>>
>>24135350
>>24135374

We also need a way of concealing our three diminutive alien friends. If Yellowman has a knapsack of some sort, he might be able to pass them off as toys or figurines in a cursory inspection.

"Hey Fats," Yellowman says, turning to his alien comrade. "You ever been in a fight before?"

"Uh... not really." Fat says.

"Nope!" Pot says. "But if we ever got in a scrap, I bet I could really kick some tube! I've been practicing my spore blow for a while now!"

"Yeah, thanks to Pot, our fighting ability really blows," Fat says, shifting its leaves. "Don't worry, worst to worse we can always run away."

"Unless YOU'RE gonna stay and fight! Scouts gotta stick together!" Pot says, with emphasis. "But... ah... if things go south, don't feel like you have to impress us."

"Yeah, just get moving if if looks bad. We'll follow your lead!"

Hey Scott. Let's head inside the statue. You got anything that you can use to conceal your weapons, and Fat-Fot-Pot?
Also, look for a wall outlet. You should be able to charge your suit using the Power Recharger.

This first world could be pretty useful to us; it's Earth, and we may be able to barter or steal a lot of stuff that will help us in future worlds, like a trenchcoat to conceal our weapons, a military knapsack to store stuff, and components to fix the damaged commset.
>>
>>24135350
Attempt to conceal anything that'd set off a panic in local populaces (weapons, FLOATY ALIEN COMPANIONS, etc.). Make sure the Emitter is on and functioning properly. Make your way down the Statue of Liberty and catch the ferry.

Be on the lookout for anything useful, and expect traps from the other racers.
>>
>>24135374
"Uh... Not WITH me," Scott grimaces. "And yeah, I heard what the card said."

"So did we," Fat says. "Some sort of broadband psychic emanation? I guess it doesn't matter."

"Too bad you don't have a trenchcoat! You could just put on one over your gear! And look really snazzy to boot!" Pot puts in.

"You're just saying that because of all those old detective movies you made us watch," Fat says. "It's probably not nearly that easy to hide weapons."

"And how would you know? You've never picked up a weapon in your life!" Pot shoots back.

"Because you're the one charged with defense, and you ARE a weapon!" Fat replies.

"Break it up, break it up," Yellowman says, sighing.

"Sorry, boss."

"Sorry."
>>
>>24135448
Trenchcoat and Backpack are useful items that should be easily obtainable from any surplus store.

>>24135471
>The spider-like creature self of Fat-Fot-Pot is capable of separating himself from the trio, leaping off his hover-disc, and scouting ahead. His small size along with silent demeanor and natural talent gives Fot a +10 to Stealth when doing this.
Should we have Fot scout, or do it ourselves?
I'm thinking do it ourselves to avoid the risk of someone seeing Fot and panicking.
>>
>>24135493
Come on guys, let's get moving.
Scott, there should be an electrical outlet somewhere inside the Statue; charge up your suit real quick.
Then we've got to figure out a way to get some money.

Though, doesn't it strike people as odd, why the start and destination points would be so close, and so easily accessible? I mean, you just get on the ferry, and then a subway ride, then a taxi.
Something feels off.

The starting points could be randomly scattered across New York. Yellowman might have had the fortune of starting close to the stage exit.

But it's still an underground secret laboratory, probably staffed by paranoid guards and all the security measures that a Cold-War America can muster. Finding the entrance will be the hardest part.

"What a view!" Pot says, happily. "Wish I'd brought my disc with the holocam installed on it!"

"Wish you'd brought one with a gun, but oh well," Scott comments, turning from the view and heading for the stairs. "We'd better double time it."
>>

Time is of the essence, it seems.

If the other contestants have already raised hell in NY and caused a state of emergency, there might be a chance that the ferry and other tourist transportation services would be closed for the day. Similarly, there may be other contestants stranded on this island that Yellowman may have to watch out for.

Check for the ferry's status once we get down there. use the cover story that we're a walking advertisement for a toy manufacturer of some sort. Instruct the floaty guys to be quiet and play along.

MAXIMUM PARANOIA mode should be online now. There may indeed be other racers stranded on the island. Also, watch for traps!
>>

"Wish it was day," Yellowman says, glancing at the full moon as he emerges from the statue at the ground floor. He picks his way past yellow tape marked 'Do Not Cross.' "I'd have been able to see a damn sight better. Oh well. You three stay behind me and try to stay out of sight until we find something to hide you in."

"Yes sir!" the two selves of Fat-Fot-Pot says as they run off to cover. Yellowman frowns as he turns back to the crowd at the bottom of the statue.

"Fireworks?" he murmurs, spying a pyrotechnics display at the far end of the island. "Lucky for us. No one'll be paying attention."

>>
>>24135933
It might be a gunfight between other contestants.
Avoid it.
Can we reach a ferry without passing by the area?
Actually, what will we have to pass by to reach the ferry?
If we go through a crowd, keep an eye out for anyone fictional.
If we have to go near the pyrotechnics, stay alert.
If we're going in places without people, try to be sneaky.
While we're already suspicious, try not to act any further suspicious.

We gotta get to the boat, get out to Battery and keep moving, hopefully without drawing too much attention or getting caught in a fight.

"Shut up!" Yellowman hisses to Fat-Fot-Pot. "If they hear you talking..."

"Listen to all those fireworks! No one's going to tell we're talking!" Pot says as Yellowman picks up the pace to the ferries. Cheers of joy and laughter turn to horrified screams and shouts.

A chorus of cries echoes through the air, all chanting the same thing.

Yellowman attempts to get to cover while firing his gauss pistol...

>11.

Unfortunately, a low-flying strafing run by a Joe in a helmet throws a wrench into that plan. The Joe flies down, taking aim just in time for Statler's Shock round to glance the edge of his jetpack. The electric charge makes the device go haywire, and with a startled scream, the Joe blasts into the air before falling into the water many yards away. Yellowman's entire face contorts into one massive wince.

"...oops?"

Then two laser beams burn through his chest and remind him he's still in a fight.

Switch to Waldorf, and aim for the exposed circuitry in the chest cavity of the BATs.

"Gresham Road," Scott says, reading off one sign. He looks over to see a large open field with a few strange stick-like metal statues illuminated dimly by streetlights.

"The hell? Modern art? Whatever. OK, where am I going. Towards buildings for breaking and entering? I'm not seeing any cars around."
>>
>>24139235
I don't want to B&E. Local police might not be cobra troops, but Joes are in the area, and I don't think they'd like common criminals.

Yeah, that's modern art for ya.
You're in the Governor's Island Picnic Point.

Follow Gresham Road north. As much as I want to do some B&E, there's Joes in the area, and best we don't commit any obvious crimes.
There'll be electrical outlets at the ferry station at the north of the island anyway.

Yellowman starts to trudge north. It's a warm summer night, so being soaked isn't as bad as it would normally be. There is an extended silence between himself and Fat-Fot-Pot, who floats openly beside him, the pair no longer caring about stealth. Luckily the only person they pass by at this hour is a bedraggled and dirty man in worn clothes with a bottle of Jack Daniels in one hand and a slackjawed expression on his face.

"Did you... Did you KNOW there was a fuel leak whe-" Fat finally asks.

"Not," Scott growls. "A word."

One brisk walk later, Scott and Fat reach the public ferry. A sign by the Harbor Ferry Service building proclaims, "Ferry Service: Saturday-Sunday." A list of times is below that.

A NEWER sign is pasted over that. It declares, "Ferry Service Suspended for State of Emergency."

"...fuck," Scott says.
>>
>>24139591

Well, do we 'jack a boat? Do we flag down some joes?

First things first.
Get inside and find an electrical outlet. I'll feel better when you've got a fully charged shield and Waldorf's battery is topped off.

Then we look for a boat.

We'll call flagging down some Joes plan A and if that doesn't work, we'll aim the mag grapple at manhattan.

>>

>>
>>24139755
Scott manages to break into the service building undetected, locates an electrical outlet, and plugs the Recharger in. A few seconds later, two things happen in quick succession. Scott's shields are back to full, and a brown-out blows the power for this part of Governor's Island.

"Yeeeeeah, I was worried that might happen," Scott comments as he fumbles around in the dark. "It takes a lot of juice to charge my suit, and a system not designed for it can... well, break down under the sudden strain."

>Shields restored.
>YOU ARE IN DARKNESS.

The Ferry Station is a government building; according to codes, there should be a first aid kit easily available.

"My gear so far is waterproof. I can swim, it'll just take a while," Yellowman replies. "And it'll also be annoying."

What about inside your Survival Kit, Scott?

Are there any ships here at this station?
If not, we'll need to try the private docks on the eastern side of the island.
>>
>>24139984
Scott doesn't reply at first, but as he flicks on a small flashlight, the answer becomes clear.

"It's not very good, but better than nothing," Scott comments. A single beam of light emits from Fot's hover-disc.

"We've only got the one because... well..." Fat begins to say.

"We've got no eyes," Pot finishes.
>>
>>24140113
Keep an eye out. The Joes may have noticed the brownout, and we might get lucky enough they'll come to investigate.

"Stop right there!" a deep voice booms as a flashlight's beam strikes Scott right in the face. As his vision adjusts, he can barely make out the outline of some sort of security guard or policeman. "You keep those hands where I can see them and step out of that vehicle slowly!"

"...Further the edge, the hotter the intensity!" Yellowman sings, continuing the song as he brings the boat around to a stop by the American Merchant Marines Memorial. Yellowman laughs as he gets off the boat and tosses the keys in the driver's seat.

"I feel your pain, boys," he says, giving a quick salute to the memorial before turning back to the concrete coast. A fair crowd of people mills around Battery Park, most pointing and staring at either the Statue of Liberty, or the burning building just at the edge of the Park. GI Toy mascot cover story.
Get through crowds.

We're looking for a way to labs underneath Battery Park. I'm guessing we have to go through the burning building?

Here's some Wikipedias:
Underneath the park

Battery Park, due to its key location, has played an important role in the construction of transportation infrastructure. Under the park lies the following active infrastructure:
Brooklyn–Battery Tunnel, carrying vehicular traffic to Brooklyn
Battery Park Underpass, carrying vehicular traffic from West Street to the FDR Drive
IRT Broadway – Seventh Avenue Line and IRT Lexington Avenue Line with a balloon loop to enable trains to turn around and switch between the two IRT lines
South Ferry subway complex (1 N R trains)

A total of four distinct walls and over 250,000 individual artifacts were found in the excavation of the South Ferry subway station. A portion of one wall was placed on temporary display inside Castle Clinton. In 2009, a long portion of wall was embedded permanently into the wall of the entrance to the newly constructed station.

I'm thinking either:
Mr. Burny building
or the South Ferry line
are our best bets.

Clutch keeps up for a little while, the harsh training of America's Special Operations Team giving him speed and endurance past most men.

But Yellowman's ran away from far worse, and has been through enough terrible experiences that his skill at running away by far exceeds any training the Joes can give. Yellowman runs past the police and firefighters and into the burning building, losing Clutch in the first ash-ridden hall. Fat-Fot-Pot zoom after him in quick succession.

The fire in the building's first floor cuts shortly inside, leaving Yellowman uncomfortably warm, but fine.

"Looks like a fight," Yellowman comments, continuing to jog deeper into the building. "Damage from explosives... probably frag grenades. No bodies, though. Blast marks over there and there, plasma burns... Ha! The weird marks on that hole in that wall... Tell-tale signature of an Impact Bazooka, Burton's favorite weapon. Led by Fot, Yellowman worms his way through a series of stairs, burnt halls, and air ducts to arrive at a large store-room with a blast door at one end. Or rather, it USED to be a blast door. Something appears to have melted a hole clean through it, and signs of another battle seem to have annihilated the room directly behind it, leaving a series of metal halls bathed red in emergency lighting. Fot silently hovers forward and Yellowman follows, coming to another air-duct, the cover already off. Yellowman sighs and begins to wriggle inside, Fat-Fot-Pot already zooming in.

How close are we?
>>
>>24142594
Wait for them to leave. We can move in later and shoot them in the back of their heads if we need to.
>>
>>24142626
You can't really tell, but not close enough to hear anything useful.
>>
>>24142669

Wait.
>>
>>24142669
I say wait and let them leave. Conserve ammo and save us from getting shot at. Win/win.

Be prepared to bury shots in faces if need be, though.

Yellowman waits for the voices to cease before advancing.

A few minutes later, Yellowman undoes the final ventiliation cover and emerges near a metal and glass door marked "Teleportation Labs". Carefully opening it, he sees an intersection of hallways ahead, with a door at the end of the hall he is in. The sound of footsteps echo from the other hall.
>>
>>24142799
Guns out. Can we collapse or block the path coming from the other way?
>>
>>24142799
Find that portal. Guns out is a go. Speed and stealth; use Scout skills to safely advance. Watch out for traps!
>>
>>24142829
This sounds good.

"I can't think of any way to," Scott replies.

"Here I go," Scott says, sprinting forward.

Moving swiftly and stealthily, Scott makes it to the other end of the hall without being seen as a soldier with an assault rifle walks down the intersection. The door at the end of the hall is paned with glass, through which Scott has a look and curses. The room on the other side of the door is full of computers, chalkboards, and analysis machines. No portal in this room.

Spin around, see where the card glows strongest.
>>
>>24142932
The Portal Card has ceased to throb. Whatever racer was near you has moved on.
>>
>>24142932
Solid strategy.
Lousy disappointing laboratories.
Also Scott, do you think you might be able to shadow that soldier without him noticing, if it seems like he's headed in the right direction?
>>
>>24142984
"I think so, yeah."
>>
>>24142991
Well then, then, might as well do so.

Scott slips out from the hallway and begins to slip down the other hallway, which he can now see also ends in a doorway. The soldier has his back to him as Scott gets closer and closer...

Scott is only thee feet from the soldier when he reaches the end of the hallway, and rather than entering the room, spins on his heel and begins to step forward towards Yellowman. His eyes immediately widen in alarm as he brings the M-16 up.

"He was on patrol!" Yellowman realizes as the rifle fires.
>>
>>24143081
Yellowman stumbles back a bit as the bullet impacts his shields, the space around his armor glowing electric blue for a brief moment as energy is discharged.

"More of you freaks," the soldier swears, taking aim again...

FIGHT OR FLIGHT?
>>
>>24143081
Well too bad, because it's concussion time.
For him.
>>
>>24143097
I don't feel comfortable with you killing some security guard who's having a bad night, and I doubt that you would be either.
So unless you think you can close the distance and attempt close combat before your shields run out, running sounds good.

"I'm better at running, so... Look over there! It's Zartan!" Yellowman points. The soldier looks confused.

"...who?"

"Guess it doesn't work twice. YOINK!" Yellowman shouts attempting to rush past the man and into the room behind him.

"Hey! Hey come back here!" the soldier shouts as Yellowman shoves his way past and throws open the door behind him. Fat-Fot-Pot is in close pursuit as Scott winds his way through a large workshop area filled with machines and tables and tools. Gunshots ricochet off the metal walls as the soldier behind him tries to shoot, and Scott hears him shouting for reinforcements.

There is a single metal door, slightly ajar at the end of the workshop.

Scott stops short of the door, suddenly flattening himself against the wall and shooting at the gap in the door. An explosion rocks the room as the door is violently flung open. Scott laughs as he turns and enters.

"Quick-job tripwire and grenade. Nice try," Scott chuckles.

Beyond the steel door is what looks like a testing chamber, with a heavy raised circle of steel and wires at the center. Blast marks and more coat the interior of the room, indicating another fight. The Portal Card in Yellowman's pocket begins to throb and generate warmth as he gets close. A pair of computers set up to either side of the device turn on of their own accord and begin running calculations as a low humming begins to emanate from all around. Fat-Fot-Pot hovers a little closer as Scott hesitatingly climbs into the center of the circle.

Suddenly a gunshot ricochets off the metal wall behind him.

"Don't shoot, you idiots, you'll damage the machines!" someone shouts as soldiers begin to pour into the workshop room. Scott steps fully onto the circle and then gives them a salute with a shit-eating grin.

"Better luck next time, Joes!" he calls as the Portal Card flares and he vanishes into thin air along with Fat-Fot-Pot.

Dex Leadership Perception, skills damned if I know.

As for skills:
Bluff, Pistols and Stealth are getting some use. I'd say 2 in each.
1 in Melee and Comm wouldn't hurt other than that.
I hope to hear other people's inputs.
