"According the the laws of universal motion, The Mass of Wotan can be calculated by observing the orbits of it's three primary moons, Skuld, Urðr , and Verðandi, and comparing them with the orbit of Luna. Just as with the earth and it's moon, or the sun and it's planets, the orbits of Wodan's moons are defined by the mass of body being orbited...

...Following these rules, the total mass of Wotan is calculated to be approximately 313 times as large as the earth. The largest body in the solar system after the sun, and known in mythology to be the king of the gods." - A youth's guide to the celestial spheres, 4th edt.

You are Princess Lydia Tannhäuser Von Cygnus Gates the third, duchess of Tannhäuser and executive director of the Royal Rocketry Corps of Midland. The Press has just left your island with news of a new and improved rocket under construction, and plans to return to earth, pictures for space.

While there expectations have been raised, you still have quite a bit of work to do before you live up to them. The current plan is to launch a small, capacity 3, rocket carrying only a guidance unit, a test capsule, and a camera. This will go up into space in a sub-orbital trajectory, take photos, and then hopefully return to earth on a parachute.

You have 30 RnD points to spend and 2 luck points, your current inventory consists of a Single Mk4a Archangel rocket.

We must concentrate our efforts first upon the Camera Module, Capsule, Guidance Module, and the Mk4b Rocket.

We shall distribute our 30 points thus:
10RP - Camera 15/17
10RP - Guidance Module 12/15
6RP - Mk4b 12/20
4RP - Capsule 8/12

Holy hell God Mother not even close, it's one in the morning here. I'm only still on because I got caught up in an art dump thread.

Sorry but I'm sitting this one out.

At least confirm the budget!

I'm sorry, I had to weigh Jupiter for an astronomy lab. I have these every Monday night now. Blame Io's annoyingly short orbital period and the difficulty of making a sign wave line up JUST right.

Looks legit, let's get that camera up and running for a suborbital shot while we get the mk 4 working.
>>
>>24141491
We will go for a minimum of 18/19 Reliability on all components, and a 17/20 on the Mk4b before we attempt a launch.
Is this acceptable?
>>
>>24141491

Second this. The MK4 can shoot the camera up; it's overkill, but so it goes. Maybe we can bolt-on extra instruments belonging to universities that Minerva likes, on a this-will-probably-fail-but-bully-if-it-doesnt basis. >>24141511

I'm good with 16/17 personally. Let's shoot this thing!
>>
>>24141327

That looks OK.

We should also start informing noble families that there will be a tournment and they should get ready for it, and they can have an extra week or two of prep.
>>
>>24141526
We haven't actually constructed a Mk4b Rocket, however. We will need at least 2 more turns.
>>
>>24141569

The MK4a is sufficient for a straight-up suborbital shot, we can use it as a sounding rocket.

The other conundrum we must solve is -- does the first Void Knight go for orbital?
>>
>>24141616
The Mk4a is also twice as expensive as the Mk4b, which is just large enough to send a camera, capsule, and guidance unit into sub-orbit.
>>
>>24141616
The Mk4a also has a less than 50% chance of success.
>>
>>24141659
>>24141696

Whoops, got them backwards. Looks like we have to keep working on it.
>>
Since we appear to now be agreed on the budget for the current turn, shall we proceed, God Mother?
>>
We need to act faster with our development. Both Celesteville and Rhinoland have declared their intention to put an elephant and a rhino on the moon, respectively.

.... yes, yes we do.

We should also ask, politely and with no pressure, the radio operators to keep us informed about what the Huns might be doing. Having a space race with the Suthlanders sounds like fun and whoever wins there'll be a big tea party on the moon with barely any explosions.

Having one with ruthless technologically advanced barbarians who don't care about loss of life is another story.

The points are spent. Now that the press is gone and work is proceeding, you have some time to yourself.

Will you,
>Hang out on the beach with Amelia
>Practice fencing with Sir Pero.
>Go Flying with Sir Harker.
>See what Minerva and the RRCs Alchemists are up to
>See what The Colonel and the RRCs Computers are up to

Talk Amelia into going flying with us if Sir Harker's new plane carries three? ^.^
>>
>>24141977
>See what Minerva and the RRCs Alchemists are up to
I would like to see what new radio-reactive applications they are cooking up.
>>
>>24142025
What if we go flying with Sir Harker and Amelia to explore the island?
>>
>>24141977
>See what Minerva and the RRCs Alchemists are up to
>Practice fencing with Sir Pero.
Not fitting if we squander time. We need to make sure we are sufficiently fit in both mind and body to personally lead this program.
>>
>>24142025
The newly rebuilt comet 3, although not supersonic like it's predecessor, can indeed Cary at least three people. Harker believes that the future of air travel is sleek jet airplanes and not the cumbersome flying boats that are so popular in the western isles.

The Comet seats six. 5 passengers and a pilot, or a pilot, co-pilot, an 4 passengers. And is propelled by twin jet engines, with just enough range to get from Fort Adler to Isle Tannhäuser if his contacts in the Royal Air Force allow him to refuel from one of there flying fortresses over the northern ocean. Otherwise he has to stop over in Merika.

He plans on building a larger version for commercial passenger travel, but your adventures have sidetracked him.

The alchemists are working in an armored and fenced off building far from the town. Before you are allowed inside, you will have to don heavy protective garments.

Which do you chose?
>>
>>24142247
We shall choose flight with Amelia and Sir Harker.

If there is a significant breakthrough, then Professora Minerva will undoubtedly inform us.

>three primary moons, Skuld, Urðr , and Verðandi,

Ah! I see now.
>>
>>24142268

Plus, it'd take way too long to look stylish in heavy protective garment.

>>24142247

We should tease him a little about our thingies being faster than his.

"But if you're spending all your flight time high and fast above the clouds, you won't get to see anything! I can see it working for urgent cargo and the military, but why would tourists want that."
>>
>>24142297
Amelia, who has seemed to back down from obsessing over Harker since her first meeting with him, joins in the teasing, saying how the Maiale Volante was much larger and more luxurious than the Comet. Sir harker shakes his head as he leads both of you into the aircraft.

As he lifts off, he asks you your personal opinion on the possibility of a man surviving in space.
>>
>>24142418

"We'll have to send up an animal to find out. If there's no air we'll have to carry our own, but other than that... I guess that it'll end up looking a bit like a deep sea diver? Sad that it won't be possible to really touch space..."
>>
>>24142510

"Actually that's a thing. A candidate should have to be able to hold their breath and do some work in that state, like turning the air back on!"

(IRL, that's actually the worst thing you can do)
>>
>>24142531
"Doubtful, the astro-knights will have to wear a pressurized suit. In many ways it's the reverse of a diver. Instead of being crushed by the depths of the abyss, the preasure of an unprotected man's humors would cause him to explode without an atmosphere to contain them." Sir harker explains as he climbs higher and higher.

"I'm more interested in weightlessness however." As he explains this, you start to notice that the airplane is climbing very rapidly, and you start to feel heavier.
>>
>>24142665

"So... very form-fitting armor?"

... What was our last meal?
>>
>>24142665
Oh dear. This advisor hopes the royal bloodline stock is blessed with a history of strong constitutions.
>>
>>24142699
Island goose and pudding with tea and muffins, why do you ask?

Things get heavier and heavier before Harker suddenly pushes the controls forward and you suddenly don't feel any weight at all. Almost like the feeling you experience at the top of a swing, only much longer. Is this weightlessness?
>>
>>24142699
>... What was our last meal?
I imagine we're about to find out.
>>
Okay, I won't try to run half a quest on Mondays. Night. I'll pick up where we left off tomorrow at the normal time.

I would have just let this thread die and pretend it never happened, starting episode 16 the next night again, oh well.
