So, as it turns out, collapsed lungs are no fun. Ask me how I know! (I'm kidding, don't ask.) Oh, and Carolina weather pisses me off. but that's not why you're here, is it? haha!

Archives here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=Strike%20witches%201989

they're really getting quite long, I'll do a clifnotes version soon. Either that or get someone else to handle it, haha!

Characters here: http://pastebin.com/zFxWNup1

that works pretty well as a jumping off point, honestly, if you don't want to dink around with an archive binge.

++

Your new housing, on the corner of Moore ave and Elrod ave, is actually really quite nice. While the bedrooms are shared- again- they're larger than you're used to. Similarly, they all have attached bathrooms, which, given the fact that witches are all still female, you consider a godsend. The kitchen is similarly nice, though you're not too sure about the gas range. Rosalie, however, was apparently very, very impressed with it, and she's by far the best cook in the unit, so you're happy to accept her judgment.

The twins were practically giddy when they found out there was a pool across the street- and both about swooned when they learned how close the beach was from here. Katya, meanwhile, has been trying her best to keep up- this is her first time even approaching the civilian life in the US. Even your short trip to Seattle was nothing compared to this for her- you were on a strict schedule, and couldn't poke around much.

Meanwhile, the rest of the crew has just expressed some happiness to be 'home'- you've all spent time here, after all, and even if it's not officially your homes of record, it's familiar at the very least. And the sun and warmth beats the snow you've been dealing with since this shit all started.

>>
Of course, it's not all upsides. You're grounded for the time being, for lack of an aircraft. While you kind of like the downtime, it seems like the paperwork you've been trying to outrun has been doing it's best to keep up- there's a small mountain of reports to fill out, plus requests for more performance reviews on the Wyvern from Chance-Vought. No new letters from Konstantina yet, though you're under orders to write one to her, you remember.

That said, though, there's other stuff you'd rather do. Like retrieve your motorcycle from your uncle's place. You've got a friend in town who owes you a favor, and you could call it in and have him drive you out to your uncle's, no problem. You'd just about kill to be able to go out for a ride, and how often are you going to get the chance when they deliver the improved Wyvern? It'll be test flight after test flight after test flight- who knows when you'll get another shot at a 48 hour pass?

Or go to Santa's- how long has it been since you had a burger? Too long, that's how long. You could go enjoy the pool- the twins are already over there for sure, and you think you heard Slider say something about going too. It looks fairly nice- you can see it from the upstairs window- but you haven't gone over to swim just yet.

2/3
>>
You could always bring along company if you head out on a pass, though you're not sure where Ice got off to- or even if she's free- and Katya's been a bit overwhelmed, so you're not sure how she'd handle going out. Then again, maybe some time out would do one of them good- Ice could use a break, even if just for a day or two, and Katya just misses home- maybe showing her some of the things around here, even if it is just open highway and a roadside diner- would help.

Of course, you could just as easily head out alone- Santa's used to seeing you come in to eat by yourself. And you can't say that spending a day out on the highway by yourself isn't a really attractive idea right now, and you'd like to see your uncle and aunt, even if just for a couple hours. You'd have company at the pool regardless, but lounging in the sun probably isn't such a bad idea either- you do need to work on your tan, after all.

{x} See if someone wants to come along! Who, though? (Katya)

You really, really miss your bike. Come to think of it, you miss Rufus a hell of a lot too, and your aunt and uncle have always taken care of him when you're on a cruise. Hell, he's practically their dog at this point.

Your friend, thank god, is a civilian pilot- one of the ones that flies because they love to and doesn't have to blow things up when they do. Must be nice, though their sluggish speed is a massive turnoff for you. If it's not an old warbird, you've got no interest. Even better, he flies out of Montgomery field, just five miles south.

First thing's first though- your weekend pass. Ice, ever thoughtful, issued them and left them on the kitchen table- signed and ready to go. You notice that Maverick and Goose's passes are already gone- you've got no clue where they went, but you're pretty sure you won't see them this weekend.

>>
Grabbing yours, you fold it and drop it inside your wallet, writing out a quick note and some contact numbers in case something comes up- like a recall. You also grab Katyas, since you plan to invite her along. That accomplished, you begin your next task- finding Katya.

Truth be told, a long run out would do her some good. She's been massively homesick- and it's hard to blame her, really. She ran away from the Soviet military to... do what? See nothing but military bases and combat with you instead? It's not hard to see how that'd be a major disappointment for her.

You find her outside on the back patio, reading a book far, far too large for you. That and you're pretty sure it's in Russian, anyway. She looks up when she hears your boots on the concrete, closing her book and marking her place with a finger.

“Hello Frank.” She says with a smile- a smile you're not sure is real or faked. “Is something going on?”

[] “Yep. You and I are going on a bit of a road trip!”

This time, her smile is genuine. “I would like that very much, yes.” She says, standing up. “Are we leaving now, or...?” She trails off, and you laugh.

“Not right this second. I need to call my friend, he'll be flying us up there, and I need to talk to Merlin real fast, let her know where I'll be.” You shake your head. Poor kid is doing better, sure, but.....

“Should I bring anything?” Katya asks as you walk back inside.

“Well, a change of clothes- civilian clothes- wouldn't be a bad idea.” You answer, looking at her distinct lack of pants. “Like, you know. Pants.”

Katya blushes. “I- I do not have any.” she says. “I have not left any of the bases we were on- I have not had the time!”

Konstantina on playing tourist, because what else is she going to do without Frank on the front line?

Also, was her rank/branch ever given? I gave her the naval colors because she appeared with naval aircraft, and defaulted the rank to Starshina because it didn't require Cyrillic, stars, or fancy gold embroidery.

Hell if the project was super secret, she might have been brought up alone, no witch comrades and whatnot. Fronk might have been a reactionary latching on to.

[x] “See if you can borrow one of the issue skirts, and We'll make it a point to stop somewhere to get you some civvies.”

“Well, I guess you should see if you can borrow one of the issue skirts, and we'll make it a point to stop somewhere and get you some civilian clothes, ok?” You say, still chuckling.

Katya nods, walking off towards the room she shares with Rosalie.

You find Merlin on the couch, watching TV- national geographic, about some rain forest or other. You're not sure, and it's not something you'd have thought she was interested in. Then again, she's also reading something, so it's possible it's just on as background noise.

“Hey Merlin.” you say from behind her, and she looks around at you. “Hey, Katya and I are headed up north for the weekend, I'm going to get my Harley, ok?”

“J-just you two?” Merlin responds, closing her book and turning around on the couch. “A-Are you sure you'll be ok?”

Katya, walking in, answers before you can.

“We will be fine, Merlin.” She says, with a smile. “I will make sure nothing happens to Frank.”

Merlin still looks torn.

“Oh, hey, that reminds me, kinda.” You say. “When we get back, we're all gonna go to Santa's, ok?”

“S-Santa's?” Merlin asks. “Is that the place we went that had the Cake?”

You have to laugh. “It sure is, Merlin. And no, I haven't forgotten my promise.”

Merlin smiles weakly- but it's a smile. “O-Ok then! I.. I guess I'll be ok for the weekend. Take care of him pleas miss Katya.”

Katya smiles again. “He will be fine, little sister, I promise.”

The two of them talk a bit more while you call your friend, Red and call in your favor. He chuckles some. “This sure seems like a lot more than letting me couch surf for a month.” He says, jokingly.

Twenty minutes later, you're in the right hand seat of Red's Cessna T303, listening to the comforting drone of the props as you wing your way north to Redding- six hundred miles north, nine hours by ground, three by air.

The flight out is fairly quiet- Red asks about the war, how you're enjoying flying the 'fast jets' and tries to engage Katya in conversation some, failing miserably. You land at Redding municipal, and Red taxis onto the pad, shutting down the engines and wandering off after you thank him for the ride.

“What now?” Katya asks, grabbing her pack from the bird and tossing you yours.

“Hang on, I'll give them a call, let 'em know we're in town.” you say, walking into the terminal lobby and fishing in your pocket for a quarter for the payphone. You dial their number- using the cheat sheet that lives in your wallet. Their oldest son- Joe- answers.

“Knight house. This is Joe.” He says, sounding disinterested. In the background, you can hear the TV.

“Joe, it's Frank. How ya doing?” You say, nodding as Katya asks if you'd like something to drink.

“Frank!” your cousin exclaims, surprised. “Hey, good to hear from you! What's up?”

“Not much.” you admit, trying to sound nonchalant. “Hey, I'm in town with a friend and-”

“You're in town? Radical!” Joe says. “You're coming by the house, right?”

“Well, that was the plan, yes.” You say, laughing. “I need to pick up the bike, and I'd like to see Rufus. Are your folks home, or...?”

“Well, Dad's out on some training thing, I guess they're expecting a busy season. Mom's in town shopping. Hey! Want me to come get you? I got my license!”

Ocelot is not yet the badass Lee Van Cleef inspired mother fucker we know and love in Snake Eater. He's young and stupid. Dude forgot he only had six shots the first time he tried to kill Snake with an SAA.
>>
>>24156391
[x] “haha, nah, we've got a taxi.”

We're fighter jockeys. We live by strapping ourselves into flying controlled explosions, and try and kill other dudes in flying controlled explosions with rockets that have brains.

And even we aren't suicidal enough to try and ride shotgun to a redneck new driver in his first shitty lift-kit rustbucket truck.

2saa (timbleweed fight)
3saa
>>
>>24156708

Makarov, 1 SAA (confronting Snake and Eva at the abandoned factory), 2 SAA (the battle at the ravine, he explicitly mentions "Twelve shots" emphatically), then 3 SAAs.

I don't know if he ever fights with all three, though, he mostly does his asshole juggling routine with them. He should watch it, he'll put someone's eye out.
>>
>>24156708
You forgot the pair of SAAs he uses during the boss fight. He only uses 1, a highly decorated gun Snake makes fun of, during the cutscene with him and his groupies. In that cutscene is where I believe Ocelot loses count of the shots and tries to kill Snake with an empty gun.

[x] “haha, nah, we've got a taxi.”

“Haha, nah, we've got a taxi, Joe. We'll be by in about half an hour, ok?” you say, nodding and mouthing 'thanks' to Katya as she hands you a coke.

“Ok! Mom should be home by them, and I think. Well, unless Amy manages to get her to stay out longer. You know how girls are.”

He says it loud enough that Katya hears, and smiles a bit. She's drawing a few looks, but your jacket- currently wrapped around her waist and tied off, is helping to cover her legs a bit.

You laugh. “Yeah, I do. Alright, see you in a bit, Joe.” You say, hanging up the phone.

“That was your cousin?” Katya asks, while you find a cab. The driver, with a full beard and wearing a turban, has a thick accent, but seems like a friendly guy. He helps Katya with her bag as you climb in.

You nod. “Yeah, that was Joe. His dad's a smokejumper for the state, and his mom works for the county sheriff's office.”

“She's not a witch?” Katya asks, sounding surprised.

You laugh and shake your head. “Nah. It runs in the family, sure, but I guess it missed her. I don't think Amy is either, but I'm not real sure.”

The drive up takes about fourty minutes- traffic being what it is. Your uncle's family lives outside of town on a small acreage- not quite a farm, but bigger than a plot in town. The cab driver pulls into the drive way and you hand him a twenty- telling him to keep the change gains you a big grin and a handshake.

Joe's sitting outside on the front step, and Rufus is sitting next to him, noticeably taller than Joe. Rufus is a big dog- standing almost to your stomach by himself.

“Is- is that a dog?” Katya asks, shocked.

“Pretty sure he's half tyrannosaurs rex actually.” You say, laughing. Joe stands up and Rufus looks over at him before pounding down the steps at you, his tounge hanging sideways out of his mouth.

[x] shit! BRACE FOR IMPACT!

Rufus, unlike your sister, knows exactly how to hit a person to knock them flat on their ass. He also knows how to open the fridge, get a beer, and eat those damn steaks you had set out, too. Dog geniuses are a blessing and a curse.

Having been in a brutal aircraft crash, you note it felt something like getting tackled by your dog, with all the air knocked out of your lungs by the force of the impact. Still, you can't help but laugh while Rufus licks your face, slobbering all over your aviators.

Eventually you struggle your way to your feet, still laughing, and shake Joe's hand.

“Hey Frank!” he says, handing you a towel with a grin. “I think your dog missed you.”

“Yeah, I think so too!” you say, laughing as you wipe off your face. Rufus is currently circling Katya, sniffing her, seeming to be at a loss. She's wearing your jacket, so she must be ok, but she's new people!

“Rufus! Behave.” You order, and he looks at you- then sits right next to Katya and leans into her, fishing for attention. Absently, she reaches down and scratches him behind the ears.

“Joe, this is Katya Litvyak. She's my wingmate.” You say, introducing them. “Katya, this is Joe Knight, my cousin.”

Joe's grin loses some of it's self-assurance. As he shakes Katya's hand. “P-Pleased to meet you, Ma'am.” he says.

[] “So when's your mom due back in? Be rude not to talk to her a bit.”
[] “Hey Joe, where's my Bike? We'd like to get out riding, we'll stop back by later to talk to your folks.”

[x] “So when's your mom due back in? Be rude not to talk to her a bit.”

Joe's going to embarrass himself, assuming this goes how it looks like it's going to. While seeing him flounder a bit might be funny, it'd also be a total dick move and pretty cruel to boot.

“So when's your mom due back in, Joe?” You ask, intercepting the awkward silence before it starts. “We've got some time and it'd be rude not to talk a bit.”

“Uh... oh. Pretty soon, she called right after you did to see if I wanted anything from McDonald’s. I'm trying to get in shape, so I told her no.” He looks over at Katya. “I'm going to join the Marines!”

Katya nods. “It seems like military service runs in your family, Joesph.” She says with a light smile. “And I would not be here but for that. It is a good thing, yes?”

“Y-yeah.” Joe says. “Well, I guess you don't want to stand around outside all day. C'mon in. Here, Miss Katya, let me get that bag for you.”

It's just as well he does- Rufus, too, seems to like her a lot, and, being a dog, is a lot less shy. He trots along just behind her, tongue lolling out of his mouth. “He is very friendly.” she remarks, walking next to you.

You look over at your dog and grin. “He's a big baby, is what he is. If you're not careful, he'll try and crawl up in your lap.” You laugh. “I can't honestly advise letting him, he's pretty heavy.”

She looks over at you. “Do you think little Merlin could ride him as one does a horse?”

1/2
>>
You laugh. “Well, if we could find a saddle and convince her to get anywhere near him, yeah. But she's not a big dog person, you know?”

Katya shakes her head. “I do not. We were not allowed to keep pets.”

“Really? That's pretty harsh.” You say, surprised. It's not advised- case like this one, if you didn't have family that could take care of him, you don't know what would have happened to Rufus. He's practically at home here, though he'd probably be happier on your grandparent's property in the Midwest, since it's much larger. Still, he's probably your best friend, and could care less if you leave the toilet seat up- a fact that, in the end, made him superior to your ex-girlfriend.

Inside, the TV is tuned to MTV, which plays nothing but music videos, you guess. It's not really your thing, you're a big band and swing fan, almost unique in that among your peers. Still, you choke it down while chatting with Joe- about school, his plans to enlist, and what his folks are up to. His sister apparently wants to be a smokejumper like her old man, and you mentally wish her luck- they're crazier than you are.

You're interrupted by your Aunt. “Frank!” She exclaims, as you stand up and give her a hug. “If I'd have known you were coming I'd have cooked something!”

She eyes you critically. “You're really getting to thin, dear.”

You laugh- she's said the same thing almost every time you've seen her. The fact that both Joe and your uncle manage to maintain a reasonable weight is testament more to their own metabolism than it is to lack of effort on your aunt's part.

“Gotta maintain a fighting weight.” You chuckle. “How are you auntie?”

“Oh, I'm good.” She says, motioning for you to follow her into the kitchen. Joe and Amy both bring in bags of groceries from the car outside, while Rufus seems torn between wanting to sniff in every single bag, or sit next to Katya and receive more petting.

He eventually picks the latter.

“The county finally gave us a pay raise, and they're thinking about getting some new choppers.” she says, putting food in cupboards. “It's been pretty quiet here, though. Your uncle's crew thinks it's going to be a bad year for them, but I don't think it'll even get close to what we had a year ago. Remember yellowstone?”

You nod- you were gearing up for a cruise when it happened. Your uncle's team deployed into it, helping cut firebreaks and trying to contain the wildfires that had raged through the park. In the end, it was dealt with, but almost eight hundred thousand acres burned.

“Well, here. Before I continue being rude, I”d like to introduce you to my friend here. Auntie, this is Katya Litvyak, my wingmate. Katya, this is my Aunt Christine.” You say.

Your aunt eyes Katya, briefly. “You're too skinny too, dear.” She says. “I hope both of you plan to stay for dinner.”

“That sounds great, actually. We've got weekend passes, so we've got some time.” You say. “Anything I can help out with?”

Your aunt shakes her head. “Not really. Just sit back and relax. Joe! Go start up the grill. Amy, peel us... I guess about eight potatoes, ok?”

“Frank, I know you like your steak medium rare, right?” She asks, and you nod. “Ok. How do you like yours done, dear?” She asks, looking at Katya.

“The same, please.” Katya says. She's in for a treat- your aunt actually grills one of the best steaks you know of- almost on par with your late grandfather. Your dad's are better, of course, but right now, you'll settle for second best.

“They'll be a bit.” your aunt says, hauling out five huge T-bones. She looks at Rufus, who has his head tilted to one side, and sighs, pulling out a sixth. She looks at him and wags a finger as he eyes the steak. “You can wait for dinner like the rest of us, mister.” she scolds. For his part, Rufus looks suitably admonished.

“Well, Frank, it'll be a few hours, if you want, your motorcycle is in the shed. I can get Joe to go unlock it for you. Gary's been starting it up once a week, but they'd left it on the air base for a while outside, so he had to replace the seat.” She stops and looks at Katya with a smile. “I think your friend Katya might be glad he did, too. [x] “Yeah, we need to head into town for a bit and get some clothes shopping done.”

“A few hours, huh? So, what? Around six?” You ask, looking at your watch. That's about three hours from now.

Your aunt glances up at the wall clock and nods. “Mhmm. About six.”

You nod. “Alright. Then yeah- we,” you indicate yourself and Katya “Need to go shopping.”

Your aunt smiles. “I imagine. We don't see too many witches around here, you must have caused a bit of a stir, dear.”

Katya smiles. “I do not think my accent helped much either.” She says. Your aunt laughs.

“That's possible. Though, no offense, you'd make a poor spy dear. Too many young men are going to want to look at you!” she says.

Katya blushes, and you chuckle.

“Anyway, let me have Joe get the shed door.” Your aunt says, heading out onto the deck. From the kitchen window, you can see her talking to Joe, who smiles and nods, handing her the lighter and running back inside for the shed keys.

I posit that while Slider's hips are indeed quite fetching we have no photographic evidence to prove that Katya's aren't just as good and that we must therefore consider other factors like unwavering devotion and having a familiar that is a tiger
>>
You walk out behind him, Katya following you and Rufus following either her, or the smell of the grill. Once outside, he approaches the grill, only to be menaced by your aunt with a pair of grill tongs. Rufus, deciding that dealing with the crazy woman is clearly not on the menu for the afternoon, sets off into the yard, speeding along the ground at a battered tennis ball in the distance.

You step inside the shed as Rufus, going for a running snatch, misses his target, plowing his nose into the dirt, and flipping ass over teakettle before righting himself, looking around, and shaking himself off like nothing happened.

Inside, your bike- the one your grandfather supposedly 'found' in Australia during the war- sits. A new seat replaces the old, but otherwise, she's almost the same as when granddad brought her back. The paint's faded a bit, and the tires are new, of course, but that's all cosmetic.

Starting it up rewards you with the same rich, full throated roar as it always has- Katya covers her ears as you rev the engine.

You let it idle some, smiling and running your hand over the fuel tank. Katya, almost daintily, takes the seat behind you.

>Where to,? There's a good sized mall in town, and a few specialty clothing stores you could go to. Alternately, you could go kill a few hours on the road, and go shopping in one of the cities on the way home.

>to the mall, then!

You walk the bike, still idling, out of the shed and onto the well-worn dirt track. Rufus, laying on the deck next to the grill- looks over at you, then edges his way closer to the grill, looking up at it.

You roll up close enough to be heard over the engine- even in the open air, the bike is loud.

“We're going to the mall for a bit!” You yell. “We'll be back in time for dinner!”

Your aunt nods and gives you a thumbs up.

The ride into town is relaxing- even in winter, the area is fairly warm, almost 60 today, which is plenty for the ride. Much colder, and you'd be worried for Katya- but then again, she is Russian, and would probably laugh it off.

Katya looks up at the mall disbelievingly as you help her off the bike. “This... this whole building is a store?” She says.

You shrug. “Kind of. There's many little stores inside it.”

She shakes her head. “I do not think I ever heard grandmother say anything like this.”

Never said that either, but I'm so glad you're here to put words in my mouth.
For the record, I voted to bring her along on this trip. As I said, I like her. I don't like the "Katya only, no other options, final destination" bullshit, where we don't spend time with anyone else. Goose is just the worst off.
Yeah, there are some annoying Sliderfags. But the thing is, they don't take advantage of every little situation to spend time with her. Hell, there are some people who only seem to even VOTE if it's an option relating to Katya. I prefer not to think that you guys are samefagging, I want to think you're better than that, so it must just be a few guys who don't care about any non-Katya choices.

Proof? Swimsuit talk way ahead of a pool scene. That's not neutral intent right there.

It's bad enough she has an unfair advantage as it is, and people trying to make said advantage bigger rubs people the wrong way.

I'm sure if Ice or Slider got nigh-freebee scenes like this there would be complaints as well, but at the moment anyone not named Katya is an underdog.

>>

What Katya fans are doing is basically taking chariable donations and blowing it all on themselves.

Well, maybe you should try making decisions based on something other than "Will it get us into the pants of a fictional character." some time. Because some of us find the constant "Katya only, no other options, final destination" shit makes OUR experience less fun. And here's the thing. It's going to end with either Konstantina finding them, taking a photo of herself in them, and sending it to us, or some random PILOT finding them, tracking down the previous occupants of that building, and delivering them to Slider.
From there, the world itself may very well be in danger.
>>
>>24162885

>>
>>24162920

>>
>>24162885
Okay, lemme explain something to you. Just because someone offends your delicate tumblrite sensitivities, that doesn't make them an internet tough guy. We bust each other's balls on this site. That's just how we are. We shout, and we yell, and we scream at each other, and then something happens that we can all agree is cool, and we spend a whole thread talking about how much we love each other (see: April 1st 2012, the Toonami threads on damn near every board. Except /a/. Because /a/ hates fun.). We're those guys who measure the strength of our friendship based on how much horrible shit we can say about each other's mothers before the other gets offended. If you can't handle that, you need to spend more time here, until shit stops offending you.
>>
>>24162972
I was never one to say that, that and with talk about people liking the ax crazy russian, that certainly riled things up and you might have gotten hit in the cross fire ,but like >>24162987 says, it comes with the territory.
