Welcome to Millicent Fauxly Quest.

>Before Millicent arrived at Hogwarts she was a prized daughter in a pureblood wizarding family.

>Hogwarts has changed Millicent in ways she didn’t expect. She thought she was going to be a Slytherin like her bitter rival (who has become a friend) and older sister, Maud. Instead she was placed in Ravenclaw house, something which has disgraced Millicent and her family in their pureblood social circles.

>The best easiest way to roleplay Millicent is ‘Raven’ from Teen Titans, this was purely by the actions of those in the quest (and a happy one at that).

>Millicent likes to be left alone to her own devices, she has a competitive streak but also a yearning for the contact and approval of others despite what she may tell herself. She likes to be centre of attention when she has earned it through being the best at something, not out of fame or through an embarrassing incident.

Major Character Traits:
>Millicent seeks approval from her father above most things
>She has a fear of large bodies of water
>She is best friends and can tell Olivia anything

New comers are more than welcome. Previous threads can be found here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=millicent+faux

Despite your run in and almost death whilst riding a broom in Bergle’s lesson, which you have come to believe was the cause of his tampering, you have decided, as of right now on the spot, to join the Ravenclaw team for the new term.

“I think I might join too” you say as you idly hold Tara’s paws as she plays with you.

“Great” says Harriet “I figured cheerleading was a little dull compared to actually taking part, I look forward to besting you” she says in a tongue-in-cheek manner.

After another ten minutes of chatting with your friends you stand and let the others know that you’re going for a walk. You wander off with Tara on your shoulder before she jumps off in hopes of catching an enchanted paper bird Joel as cast for her.

You watch Tara dip and dive as she tries to claw it, you take out your own wand and keep it afloat as you cross the castle grounds to the tree.

You can see Robert sitting alone by the tree with a book in his hands. He’s looking out into the lake as he eats a biscuit. You stand motionless and watch the ripple of the lake which reflects the sun like glass, causing the forbidden forest to be flipped upside from the right perspective.

When you’re close by Robert looks up from his book he’s writing in and gives a haphazard smile.

“Hey, Millicent” he says “You look well”

“I got your note, thanks for that” You say, sitting on a root beside him. Robert closes his book and puts away his feather pen which magically dives into his schoolbag.

“It’s great to see you’re doing okay” he says looking to your and smiling.

A comfortable silence follows as you watch the lake and consider what must lie at the bottom of its depths; Murpeople most likely.

“Does Slytherin know about what happened in the Headmaster’s study?” you say.

“Everyone does, Millicent” he says as Tara hops onto his lap, sniffing and pawing at his robes. “I’m afraid to see you’re becoming a bit of an enigma at the school what with the whole deal with your parents and professor Bergle”

Robert shrugs “I think we had this conversation before but I’m pretty sure it’s just people sending owls back and forth to their parents, news can spread fast that way”

“But surely it can’t be such a big deal for everyone?”

You watch as a small ferret pokes out of Robert’s robes and tumbles out onto the grass. Tara playfully jumps on it and the two skitter after one another along the bank of the lake and around the tree.

“I guess its just gossip” says Robert “Though I’m sure it has a source. When was the last time you spoke to your parents?”

Does the tri-wizard tournament exist in this version of the universe or has it been shut down? If it was to take place next year we would be able to take part in the one after it in our seventh year... pipe dreams. You think back to saying goodbye to your father at platform nine and three quarters, back when Elise was tucked beneath your arm as your soul companion. The last time you saw your father there was a glean in his eye, a look that told you he believed in you and after his little speech that he knew you could continue the greatness of the Fauxly name. His loving smile, his smell of shoe polish and the prickle of his neatly trimmed beard captured in your mind like many of the moving portraits in the castle.

That was the last time you saw him in person. You’ve yet to see the disappointment and shame in his eyes that you’ll be seeing someday soon.

“I received a letter from my parents by owl telling me to not contact them whilst at Hogwarts, so I haven’t”

”They didn’t even visit you in the medical wing?”
“That’s right”
“Then they don’t have the right to call themselves your parents”

You feel its best to change the subject to something a little lighter.

“How have you been?”
“Huh?” says Robert with a wry grin “First time you’ve asked that”

You say nothing as mixed feelings fill you.

“Well I’m doing pretty good in class, my parents are telling me its best I stay at Hogwarts for the term break, and I’ve started writing a book”

Previous tournaments were open to all ages. An age restriction of 17+ was put into place during the tourny in the novel due to deaths of champions. The goblet didn't judge by age which is how Harry ended up in the tournament.

Depending on how OP is formulating his universe there would either have to be a tournament in our second year for us to be old enough to take part in the one in our seventh, since they are held every 5 years, or if there was no age restriction we could take part in one any year. Granted, if we put our name in in our third year we probably wouldnt get picked...

You think of the Trident.

“….have you done much research on lost artefacts at Hogwarts?”

Robert turns and positively beams with excitement. You can tell he doesn’t get to talk about his passion all that much with others.

“Well there’s the Amulet of Helga Hufflepuff which was found by Arthur Macy a hundred or so years ago…” he begins, counting them off with his fingers.

“…then there’s the sword of Godric Gryiffindor which is held in gringotts bank, there was rumours that Salazar had built a Chamber in the castle but that was debunked, and…and…damn I’m forgetting something”

You decide to work you way into asking questions about The Trident.

Robert looks up at the tree and mulls over the question.

“Well…I guess it’s the mystery of it” he says “Like we live in a world surrounded by magic, yet there is hidden, deeper magic out there which is more powerful and mysterious that we can even dream of”

You can understand what he means by this, despite the magical wonder of Hogwarts and all its secrets, you can help but feel there is a deeper magic that isn’t so common place lurking just out of sight.

BFQ has an interesting setting, good writing, and one of the best "Actions Have Consequences" with a lot of player freedom of action.
Of course, that leads to the problems of attempting to get consensus, and player in-fighting when consequences come back to bite the PC for stupid or ill-conceived actions.

Aside from its ERP roots, it's an example of the pitfalls of implementing "full player freedom" with "actions have consequences".

If given time, knowledge and patience could a moderately skilled witch or wizard create a modern day artifact?

Robert does the same and before you know it you’re both across the field, Ferret and Savannah Cat in tow.

“They’re priceless, powerful magical items that in the wrong hands can cause a lot of trouble” he says “that’s why they’re so often lost and found because everyone is warring over them”

You continue across the field until you come across a rickety bridge held together by magic which leads across a large drop. You stop and don’t go any further.

We don't know if he can be trusted yet, and inviting him to help with research on the Trident will necessarily take us away from completing research on the mannequin.

We will already get information on the exact location of the Trident so long as we win the contest; there's no need to follow up and research rumors of its location.

There is an awkward beat as you stand and nod, consider going in for a hug and then promptly turn on your heels and walk away. You can hear Robert whistling casually to himself as he goes one way and you another.

Tara hops onto your shoulder, gives a mew, and licks your cheek.

You return to your friends and finish the picnic with them, when the bell rings and you head off to Defence Against the Dark arts with Professor Olivier. The lesson is pretty dull which is only spiced up at the end with a frankly embarrassing dance number by the students who had committed themselves into the play. However you do find a certain entertainment in watching Olivia happily dancing at the back with the puppet as a groovy blues number plays from the record player at the back of the class.

Lesson over you head back to your dorm as you feel dozens of eyes burning into the back of your skull. You catch students of all houses whispering and following you down hallways until you manage to lose them at the changing stairs.

When you finally approach your dorm after a long day you find Maud waiting there for you, arms cross as she leans against the wall.

“Hello, trouble” she says jokingly

“Want an autograph?” you say as you and your friends stop by the door.
“Lets talk in private” says Maud, putting a comforting arm round your shoulder as you wave a ‘see-ya-in-abit’ gesture to your friends.

Maud leads you down the changing stairs, noticing the looks that the students are giving you, and then turns down a dimly lit corridor with scary gothic statues. She sits on a bench with you beneath a torch and says.

“You really are quite the celebrity round here” she says “Though whether you’re infamous is yet to be seen”

Maud asks you about Bergle and the whole affair and you give her the run down you gave Trib instead of the real version of events. She listens intently and rubs your back as you go through the ghastly details.

“That’s terrible” she says, giving you a hug “Oh Millie you must be more careful”

You almost forgot about your suspicions toward your sister as to whether she is really a contestant. You want to talk to her about it, you trust her, but the fact she hasn’t told you first stops you. There’s always a chance, however unlikely, she is playing you for a dopey little sister.

“Mum and Dad got in contact again” she says “I have to go back for the term break and…” she goes quiet, knowing how much this is effecting you “…they don’t want you to come back just yet. I don’t think they’re ready”

staying back is fine, but we shouldn't tell her we wanted to stay back anyway because we have stuff to do. We can say that we are behind with our studies, what with one bergle and another.

she propably has made the connection that we're in the contest; the fact that she's willing to take a break from school shows that she's certain we won't be able to attain anything. But we will get that crystal ball one way or the other.

The abrasiveness of your words causes Maud to give a sigh of exasperation; she doesn’t like it anymore than you do. She sits forward and runs a hand through her long silky black hair.

“When I see them I’ll fight your corner, sis” she says “I promise”

She looks to you with teary eyes which she wipes away with a tissue.

“I’ve got a lot on my plate right now Millie, I can’t explain right now but I’m involved with something…usual. It’s nothing bad I promise it’s—it’s complicated”

You can see she’s on the verge of spilling something. You think you know what it is.

still, Millie probably wouldn't think like that. She would probably think that her sister is her only family left and the only person that cared for her.

So it seems that most now favor revealing ourselves to Maud and trying for a Fauxley victory, for the following reasons:
1. Don't want Maud to slip back to Spiteful from Friendly Rival

I would also say that it ensures that if there is still another person out there going for the Trident (Trib, that squib thief) we will have additional backup.

You’re going to build that damn mannequin for the sole pleasure of breaking it in front of Nathaniel’s lying face.

You really feel like a bit of an idiot now that you’ve spilled the beans with no way of taking it back. If only there was a bloody magical artefact that could turn back time. If only.

“What is your big problem then?” you ask as all your assumptions go flying out of the window.

Maud’s grin disappears, replaced by angst.

“I’ve been looking for a place for us to stay in London after the school year ends” she says “but I don’t know how we’re going to afford it”

A bulb goes off in her head.

“The Trident!” she says with an elated squee “If we had that we could live wherever we wanted! It’s valuable right?”

HUG MAUD.
"Probably.." Ruin her robe with our tears.
>>
>>24192926
A wait what where now? Why? I mean, the gesture is appreciated but... why?

also SHE KNOWS. this is just a ruse, she poses as the caring sister, forsoothing the evil family to start anew with her younger sibling, if only they had some money.. and, lo, it seems that fate arranged for the younger sister to be on the hunt for a priceless artifact. how quaint.
>>
>>24192926
>Priceless

Maud, we can't just flog random artifacts of massive cultural and magical importance

We CAN however help people out with our infinite wisdom. for a fee of course
>>
She just wants us to give her the Trident.
>>
>>24192926
"Priceless magical artifact of a Hogwarts founder. What makes you think anyone would let us even sell it and not steal it or confiscate it as soon as they heard of it? Bergle was ready to kill me and did kill the Headmaster for it. And that was just a professor. Not a criminal or a high minster or something."

Couldn't we magic ourselves some innocuous stuff to sell on a muggle market? Perhaps here at Hogwards, so we don't trip alarms. Transmutation or something... Everybody likes gold or silver or some precious stones, right?
>>
>>24192926
"And here I thought you were building a mannequin of your own for the past four years."

Sigh... "It's a lot more complicated than that, dear sister."

"I doubt we'll be able to sell it as it may be part of a curse. A curse that's well known among the student body."

>> I'm bluffing on my assumptions here. Hoping she makes the connection between the trident and Trib's curse.

"What if such a curse may befall upon impure little hands."

>> And now to reel her back to reality.

Well, either she's playing us or Nathaniel is. But let's keep trusting her for the moment.

Should we mention that we might be able to stay at Hogwarts? Tooledge told us there'd always be a place for us here, but then he got murdered. But just imagine all the stuff we could learn if we were at the school all the time.
>>
>>24193112
There is also the fact that she is 15 and we are 10. We have no legal status. Not in the muggle world. Especially not in England. And most likely not in magic England either...
>>
>>24193174
Thus we have to do all in hard currency. And without some kind of thing we can trade safely without getting in too much trouble and without have to use magic in the muggle world, we wont be able to do it.
>>
Well, if we are going off on our own, we need to make sure to bring Pester with us. Soup too if he wants.

I don't think we should sell it period. It's tied to Trib's curse. I know it. I much prefer breaking that curse than anything else.

Well we could. Transmute some wooden necklaces and bracelets into silver or something like that and sell them at a pawn shop or something we can identify as doing a good rate and noting that will fuck us up. Preferably well away from us. A broom flight to Ireland perhaps.

“The Trident could be very dangerous seeing as I really don’t have a clue what it does besides ‘bestow knowledge’” you say.

You can see a visible difference in Maud’s composure; she seems to have relaxed a lot more as if a great weight has been lifted from her shoulders.

“You’re right” she says, half-listening “We should be careful”

She snaps out of her little trance and turns to you, resting a hand on your shoulder.

“Please don’t go getting yourself into anymore trouble, I’ll have to show the ministry that I can take care of you, I’m not even sure if I can take care of myself”

You give her a hug which lasts for a nice long while, you can feel the steady rhythm of her heart against your ear.

You ask her about the implications of two young witches living in London without their parents.

“I have enough of my own money saved to keep us in The Leaky Cauldron for a month after school ends, and then we’ll just have to figure out something after that. Perhaps the ministry will give us someplace to stay, I’ve heard they have a night bus for homeless wizards. I don’t intend for us to be that short of luck”

You sit together for another ten minutes just enjoying each others company, you don’t say much nor do you want to.

“Where’s Elise?” she says in a motherly tone.
“In my dorm”
“You’re not carrying her around anymore?”
“I don’t feel like it”

You give her a kiss on the cheek and walk with her out of the passage and back to your dorm before she leaves for her own.

(more coming – writing)
>>
>>24193640
We should make a habit of talking with Elise before night. Like a smal habit or ritual.

Like a recorder tape that you know will be found in case you go missing. A recorder tape that might be a bomb with your name on it. And we use it as a Plush Bear to sleep with.

Back in the common room you find that everyone has gone upstairs into their rooms to relax, everyone that is, except for Nigel who sits on the couch looking at the crackling fire. You can see the crystal ball in his hands as he turns and looks at you.

“Hey, Millicent” he says “Come sit, I thought you would want this back”

You sit with him and take the crystal ball.

>Thank you, Nigel.
>I better go upstairs and hide this.

We should ask Olivia first. Staying with somebody who knows a real muggle should prove interesting.

I don't really see wanting to go back to live with him as her first option. Though it's not a bad idea to begin exploring our options. Check out Olivia, see how Maud's idea works out, maybe make some inquiries with the teachers about Hogwarts.

We did it once so easily, granted it was vague but we may have a nack for this sort of stuff. Most third years have problems with divination as well as high level witches and wizards yet we did it perfectly the very first time we laid hands on it
