Man, writing a quest on active duty is a bit harder than I had anticipated it to be.Hopefully things will calm down soon and I can establish a regular damn schedule again. Oh well. Here we go.Archive here: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?tags=TW89 ==Sweet, delicious smoke fills your mouth as soon as you take the first pull from the Cohiba. You've got to hand it to the Cubans, commie dickheads though they might be, they know how to wrap and cultivate their tobacco leaves.Sitting in General Lindsay's office, you find yourself staring at a behemoth three ring binder sitting on his desk. The general himself was looking out a window at the snowy plains, puffing away on his own cigar. Outside was oddly serene, a few flakes of snow falling here and there, sun still blazing away. If nothing else, it was a good reminder that this was home, and safe. Or rather, damn near enough to home that it felt like it. The general's office, this being a temporary billet for even him, was rather grandiose, something you wouldn't expect out of a former special forces man. A huge leather seat sits behind a presidential sized c-shaped desk, neatly organized stacks of paperwork sectioned off. Challenge coins sit in a angled holder on the front of the desk, and while most of them aren't very impressive at all, a few jump out at you. 803 Command, USSOCOM, a Tri-Tab coin, and a handful of miscellaneous awards all seem to catch your eye.“Y'know son, if this shit hadn't kicked off, I'd be retiring in a few months.”
>>24209210You snap your head to look at where he's standing. The man shifts, and turns to face you. Cohiba firmly gripped in his right hand, his left smooths his graying hair back.“But instead, I gotta sit in here and plan raids and feints and thrusts. I should've taken fencing.” He chuckles to himself. “Oh well, I guess. It won't really get fun until I'm in Germany. Nevermind all that though, I've got some good news and bad news for you.”You find yourself dreading the bad news. “Well, hit me sir. What's the bad news?” “Pardon my language, sir, but shit. Better hear the good first.”

“Well, hit me sir. What's the bad news?”You take a deep breath of smoke, savoring the flavor. It'd been a long time since you'd had a good cigar, and the change of pace from regular chewing tobacco was nice. Even so, mom would still kill you.“Well, might as well get this out of the way. Bad news, sir?” You ask, leaning forward a bit in your chair. The general takes his own seat, reclining as he could, setting his cigar down in it's ashtray. “They need you back in Germany, son. Bad. Garrison also wants you back in Iraq, but personally I'd like to send you to Japan. Experienced, well trained armor commanders are in high demand right now. You're gonna get yanked around a lot. On top of that, the people back here are starting to get, shall we say, curious. Now, let me be blunt. I fought this for you, son, because somehow you fall into my fucked-up chain of command. Unfortunately, when the white house and joint chiefs tell me to do something, my hands get tied up pretty quick.“Time magazine wants an embedded reporter in one of my units. Yours is seeing the most action we can talk about, so I put him in with you. Make room for him somewhere, I don't care if he's riding shotgun on an Abrams or a support humvee, but he's gotta be somewhere. President's orders.”He picks his cigar back up, puffs a few times to revive the cherry, and takes a long drag. “Uh, sir, you know we got jumped and lost people, right? We're at fifty percent strength. I can't guarantee his safety. Plus, I literally have nowhere to put him. I don't have support humvees or room in any vehicles. Hell, I only have two Abrams' left!” You protest.1/2
>>24209705Curious or not, couldn't standard military reports work for the people? This was some bullshit, if there ever was some.“Well then, I guess it's time for the good news then. General Dynamics has heard quite a bit about you, no doubt thanks to that one doctor.” He reaches ahead of him and tosses you the binder. It lands in your lap with a dull thud, weighing about fifteen pounds.“I'd get to reading, son. You're getting two of these, and we're replacing your other Abrams with a pair of prototype BAE systems vehicles. I don't have a dossier on those, but Light's seen them and helped work on them, and he checked 'em off.”Looking down at the front cover of the massive book, you're met with a plain cover sheet denoting the system's name and designation. “If it can do what all that book says it can, you're in for a hell of a ride, captain.”With that, General Lindsay checks his watch.“You had a long flight, son. I'd recommend getting some chow, and passing out. Light says the first two vehicles will be here in the morning, and that's when you get back to work.” “Roger that, sir!” (Catch chow, go to bed.) “Nah, slept pretty well on the flight. Think I'll read up a bit.” (Pour into the book.) other.2/2

> other (Read while Eating)You stand and sharply turn for the door. “And captain?”“Sir?”“SOCOM is keeping it's eye on you. Keep making us proud.”“Thank you, sir.”Minutes later, after trudging down the cold street, you find yourself in the line at the chow hall. A few enlisted personnel shoot you a glance, but it's a trifling matter. The choice of chow is surprisingly good, having either green meatlike stuff, or red vegetablelike stuff. You opt for the green meat, remembering that it never hurt sam-i-am. Finding a seat, you decide to cut into the meal first. The meat, of course, has roughly the texture of boot leather and doesn't really have a flavor. The coffee, more apt to be called sludge, has to be chewed. Just as you're cracking open the book, however, a tray sets down in front of you. You look up to find yourself looking into Seigel's hard eyes.“Mind if I join you, sir?” “Go for it” “Actually, I was hoping to get some reading done.” other.

I've got to be honest with you though, Seigel. I've got some serious reading to do. Anything important you want to talk about?” You thump a pair of fingers on the massive tome sitting next to your tray. She shrugs. “Not really. Just didn't want to sit alone, I guess.”You cock an eyebrow. “I thought you black ops types loved being by yourselves?”“Not all the time, sir. Only when we're working. Quit talking about us like you're not a part of the community, by the way. For the time being though, you just want to get to dessert: it's combat capabilities.1/2
>>24210771Hooooleeeee shit.” You mutter.Seigel picks up on it immediately. “Well, go on.”You have to re-re-reread the page, but the words never change.“forty-five miles an hour cross country, sixty on a road. Eight hundred millimeters of hull armor against AP, nine against HEAT. Twelve hundred on the turret against both, and it's got that proto-plating stuff. Crew of five, something called a WiiS, 'full network combat' capabilities. Odd though, all the gun information is classified.”She looks up. “Oh, the network combat thing? Yeah, that's pretty cool. We've been working with it for a while in the 803. Mark-and-track is probably the most handy thing for us, but for you, I dunno.” “Wait, so, you've had this for a while?”“No, the 803rd has. They pulled it from me when I got lent out. Didn't know what they wanted to give you. I was sure they'd hook you guys up in France, but...c'est la vie.” She shrugs, taking another bite of her 'ham'.You look back into the book. Well...alright.” You close the book and stand up, walking to take your tray back to the clipper. “Hey, Siegel, where the hell is our billet?” You ask, ready to get some real sleep and realizing that you never waited to find out.“Off post, somehow. SOCOM shelled out for some rooms and suites at one of the hotels in downtown Baltimore. I'm headed back there soon too.”“Wait, we're an hour outside of the proving grounds? Why wouldn't we just stay on post?”“Well, probably because this counts for our leave too. Least, that's what everyone in the company thinks. You should probably find out. Sir.” She replies, fitting a black baseball cap over her hair as she steps outside. “So, they've got a mess of tankers in downtown Baltimore, with not a whole lot in terms of orders, that close to Washington, and they put us in suites?”She nods. “Yeep. That's about the size of it. The rest of the company is there already, they wanted me to try to find you. Seems it worked out for the both of us. I've got something to handle real quick though, over at the armory.”“Oh, joy. Going to the armory at aberdeen proving grounds with someone from the 803. The MP at the door stops you for a split second before seeing Seigel, then waves you both through. A back room, which is guarded by a Marine in full battle rattle (who smartly stepped aside when he saw Seigel coming through) is packed to the brim with machine tools and weapon parts. “Ah, corporal Seigel, how nice to see you again.” An unfamilliar voice says from the doorway.“You too, Miss Cornell.” Seigel replies without turning. A strange tension fills the air, though you're not sure why.“Are you here to raid my facility again?” The voice says, stepping into the room. She's a witch, that much you can tell. A laminated ID badge hangs from her lapel, though you can't get a good read on the name. “Pretty much. You know, what with the war on.”“Are you going to introduce me to this unapproved visitor you have in the 803rd's shop?”Siegel stands up, and turns to face the older witch. “Oh, sure. This is Captain Jacob Bishop, my CO. We just got here, and as soon as I get what I need, we'll be leaving just as quick.”You're not sure whether to just step out of the room or try to shake the woman's hand.“Wait, Bishop? Two of 'em.”“And one is a pilot in the Navy?”“Am I going to like where this is going?”She puts her hands up in mock defeat. “He was really no bother. His CO and him came through a little while ago. They took a good chunk of our unusable gear for their witch element.”You shrug. “Oh, sure. Frank Bishop? Yeah, he's one of 'em. And thank you for bringing a polite guest into the building. First time any of you have done that.”Seigel, stuffing a duffel bag with a very modified AK manages to grunt in response. “Not much, I've already pretty much found all of it. Did your people come through and zero these weapons like we asked you to a little while ago?”“As far as I know. Not a lot of people are allowed in here, and you know that.”Seigel keeps working. “Hm. Might have Anderson come through if I can get him cleared. His boys are gonna want something bigger, I think.” You can't help but find it ironic that the 16 year old special forces witch was calling other people boys. Take the damn thing, just don't break it and be sure to bring it back.” She goes back to digging through the trunk she's been going through, and stuffing items into a duffel bag.You step gingerly over to the corner where the saber is and carefully pick it up. The blade and hilt are almost perfectly balanced, the scabbard well oiled and taken care of. Across the scabbard, a red splash that you can tell has been rubbed at quite a bit cris-crosses the leather. A pang of guilt races through you, knowing that you won't be able to take care of it as well as the armorers here can. But then, it's a sword. It's a weapon. And you are a warrior. You sheathe the blade, tucking a thumb over the basket to hold it down. Cornell leans on the door frame. “Pretty painted history that thing has, Captain. Lots of men died fighting with it back in the civil war. Both sides. Changed hands quite a bit. Then in the 70's some Marine took it into 'nam with him and used it in hand to hand. When the relief got to him, he was pretty badly torn up....and standing on a pile of dead NVA. He didn't make it, but the 803rd relief kept it.”“And every time it's gone out, someone gets in a hand to hand fight with it and dies.” Seigel says. “well, no better time to break a curse!” (keep the sword) “Oh. um. [x] “well, no better time to break a curse!” (keep the sword)we're of the right bloodline to do it. I mean look at Frank.I see a bunch of babbies here, gutless babbies. Then again this is /tg/....

wait one moment I see a ton more votes then before
>>24213443Man, the 89 stories are packed with samefag voting.
>>24213424Well if it wasn't cursed before...
>>24213464...Just stop it.
>>24213443Welcome to samefag and metagame. Population Not me because I don't vote anyway.
>>24213219> "Oh. Um. Hm. Considering our luck..." (Put it back.)It won't be us, guys. Probably be Nicky.
>>24213443Speaking just for myself, but I tend to get distracted by stuff and if I come back to see the vote's one-sided I often won't bother, unless I've got something else to say as well.
>>24213467No no no. We think it's perfectly fine sword, no matter what. Even if it's giving off huge amounts of pure evil energy that people can see.
>>24213507There's nothing like that going on with it, just a "curse" that seems quite effective in scaring off these babbies.>See a sign>Ignore it out of fearYellow is a good for such people.
>>24213539I bet it is the same people who wanted to go PTSD
http://youtu.be/FBM-UNjEP-QSadly, this is not the sword we are looking at.
>>24213564Personally, I don't want take it because we got a fucking shotgun. Who needs a sword.
ITT: People pussing out because OP said some scary things.
>>24213599you still don't get it someone post the image
>>24213564Probably.Me? when I see a sign, I follow it as it's there for a good reason. In a certain fashion, Jake's being a disgrace to the Bishop name in a certain fashion as look at Frank, he saw signs and he followed them.Following it might get Frank out of his rut of negativity.

>>24213735The Russ is not an actually feasible design. It is, essentially, a chibi-tank.

==Holy shit, I hadn't expected this to become so heated. Voting ends here, jesus.
Alright, everybody fucking stop. The previous choice had ten votes. Total. This one has had twenty-two.It's obvious that BOTH SIDES are samefagging like motherfuckers. Just stop.
>>24213898The previous vote was also pretty close to unanimous. Do you really think there are only 10 people following this thread? A lot of people just don't vote unless it's close.
Rolled 6>>24213959Or if it's a more important vote."Do you want a cursed sword" is pretty high on the list of "important votes" compared to simply "do you want an old sword."
>>24213464That word should be a bannable offense
> Final Tally 14-11> “well, no better time to break a curse!” (keep the sword)“Pff, curse shmurse.” You say to nobody in particular, and tuck the saber into your belt.Picking your book back up, you find yourself standing right behind Seigel, who is busy with a tooled up AK. “Jesus corporal, do you people ever not have tricked out weaponry?” She merely shakes her head.Sensing that her bag is either packed full, or that she's done (though it's probably the former), you both start out the door. On the way out of the facility, your sleeve is caught by that armorer, Ms. Cornell. “Captain, It's probably just superstition. But...either way. Be careful.”You nod. Who was she to tell you to be careful? After a minor snag at the gate, where Seigel was taking her duffel stuffed with weapons out and the MP's had quite a bit to say about that, you find yourself stuffed in a cab, bag between the two of you. The cabbie gave you a very cautious look, given that you're going to a nice part of town, in fatigues, and with mysterious bags. Either way, his job is to just drive.Being more tired than you initially thought, you wake up pulling up to a Hilton hotel. Somehow, you're able to drag yourself out of the cab after throwing a handful of bills at the driver, and pull yourself up to your room. Siegel disappears off the elevator on the ninth floor, whereas you somehow got a suite on the 14th (See 13th).You pound on the door, where a slightly tipsy Nicky answers, before trudging to the nearest bed and flopping down, tossing the saber beside you.You dream of the Charge of the Light Brigade.
>>24214282and that's it for tonight, Gents!Barring minor snags (again), i'll be running next week too. Keep your eyes on the twitter! As always, thanks, and it was fun!Next week we see the Achillies!

>>24214333The Light Brigade were slaughtered to a man, dude.
>>24214333they died to a man due to an orders mix up and accomplished nothing.
>>24214367Maybe, but you know how hard it is to convey sarcasm in text form. And given how much easier and more likely it is to assume stupidity rather than wit, using sarcasm itself is a sign of foolishness.
>>24214396I forgot to include an appropriately sarcastic reaction image, I'm sorry. Will you ever forgive me?

>>24214484Dude, the Charms curse is fucking REAL. That's not just real in SW89-verse. It's real in OUR universe too. Cursed swords, on the other hand...
>>24214523Doesn't help that they taste like shit.
>>24214523Not a serviceman. Why, what happened?
>>24214790Some people started a story about Charms being bad luck, then people started noticing when bad things happened after they ate Charms, while ignoring those same bad things that happened if they didn't eat Charms. The end.
I'm always late for those, but I always love reading them. Good job M0use. Thought that saber is foreshadowed as fuck plot device. WE ALL KNOW IT, PEOPLE WILL DIE.
