From the mound of earth where you plucked the Trident something rises beneath it, the debree fallings aside as as something within sprouts from the ground. The whole cavern shakes as water begins to jet out from the walls.

“Millicent!” shouts Maud with worry, grabbing Charles by the robe and pushing him into a run.
The unfurling giant mass reveals itself in the light.

A giant golemn with emerald gems for eyes and sapphire fangs. You can’t tell if it’s living or made of stone, it turns to you aggressively, arms and wings spreading wide. It gives a feral roar that shocks you to to the bone.
You have the iniative to make a quick decision.

The psycho wasn't her fault: We joined the contest of our own free will, and thus got ourselves involved.

I also doubt she intended for anything like the Crucio incident to occur: She just thought we would get angry and body bind him or something.

Seriously, we can decide whether to forgive her or get our vengeance later. We still have that blackmail about her Hufflepuff, our parents will not like what she did to us, and it's not like we can't curse her in a less fatal situation.

She's family, and she's apparently worried for our survival. Killing her is just excessive.

Rolled 32617

You feel yourself begin to hyperventilate as the sight of the masses of water mixed with the hellish approach of the legion of Golemns. They screach and wail, eyes angry and wild as they soars down to nab and claw at you.
The daddy golemn is slow yet covers many meters with every step, deep throaty roar resounding through the cavern.
Hands trembling you draw the Trident and hold it up into the air.
“MILLIE WE HAVE TO GO NOW!” shouts your sister, grabbing you by the shoulder with one hand and the Trident with the other.

You stand within a world of white that stretches out endlessly in all directions as far as your eye can see. You’re robes are clean and your hair no longer clinging to your face.
You look around, there is nothing for you to see beyond the white, a quiet confusion sweeps over you as you struggle to make sense of the situation.
Your sister is nowhere to be seen.
You blink.
Three children stand before you, maybe a little older, maybe younger. They’re dressed in Hogwarts robes.
There is a pretty girl with short strawberry blonde hair, a thin faced boy who looks at his shoes, his black hair gelled back, and on the third is similar to the other boy but unmistakeably someone you know but you can’t make out where you know him from.

Nathaniel is not one of the three. They all white, the two on the right looking almost identical but not quite twins.
“Where is my sister?” you ask.
The girl answers with my idle smile.
“She’s someplace else right now” she says “We don’t know where”
“Well where am I?” you ask.
“Look around” says the meek little boy standing at the back.
You turn and look around you; the white is colored into life as you’re now on a grassy field on a warm summers day. You’re by the tree where you sat with Robert, but the tree looks less old, the Quidditch pitch in the distance under construction.
“But where am I really?”
“In your head of course” says the girl
You realize where you know two of them from.
“You’re Professor Trib, and you’re Bergle” you look to the other boy and feel guilty you don’t know his name “sorry, I don’t know who you are”
“He’s my brother” says Bergle “Don’t mind him”

“Time is of the essence, I really need to get back, I-” before you can finish your sentence Bergle cuts you off.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got loads of time to kill, It’s magic after all” he says with childish glee.
“I’m really confused, we have you brought me here?” you ask, feeling the cool breeze across your face, smelling the blades of grass. The illussion is so real you think you would only just be able to tell the difference.
“Because this is what you need to see” says Trib in a sing-song manner.
“Watch”
The three students suddenly break out into a raptuous argument as if you were not there at all. You realize that you are watching a memory brought to life.
“Well Nathaniel’s hidden it so hah! Jokes on you!” says Trib, crossing her arms and walking away in a huff.
“Goddamit” says Bergle to his brother “What the hell did you do that for?”
“I’m sorry” he says
“What was all that crap about an An Unbreakable Bond? You know that’s some dark magic right?”
“How can it be dark magic if it means we love each other. We’ll always be together. She’s agreed to it” says Bergle’s brother.
“Whatever, we going to find Nathaniel and the Trident, tonight”
The memory fades for another.

The beginning of the climax was the thread before last. The last thread was just hours and hours of shitty arguments and drama. There were only two story posts from HPQuest.
>>
Trib and Bergle’s brother stand by the tree, it’s twilight, they hold each other’s forearms and have just finished reciting a vow. They look at one another as star crossed lovers.
“I love you” they both say “Forever and always”

The memory changes again. Bergle stands before a very much alive Nathaniel who is bloody and bruised, they’re just outside the opening to the tunnel in the forbidden forest.
“It’s mine! I found it! I worked hard for it all year!” Nathaniel shouts
Bergle draws his wand and uses the killing curse, piercing him straight below the rib.
The memory changes one last time.
Trib and the two Bergle’s stand within the cavern with their wands held in the air to keep the golemns at bay. The drive the Trident into the earth and look to Nathaniel’s grave.
“We must use obliviate on ourselves, only one of us can remember” says Bergle, he takes out his wand and uses it on Trib, and then his brother.

With blank stares Bergle leads his two near-unconscious friends out of the cavern.
The memories stop. You’re returned to the world of white. The trio stand before you.

A lot of the argument is stemming from there appear to be two schools of thought on Millie now. On group is firm in that Maud is a cunt, and deserves not our help or love from now till a very long time from now.
The other school is that Maud deserves our love because she is still our sister no matter how misguided she is.

People....do remember that Harry Potter is a setting with magical memory manipulation on the order of many transhumanist settings, and that if a person doesn't like who they are, they can have their memories re-written and their personalities edited to become the person they'd rather be, or do that to someone, right?
>>
>>24328475

Why would the person that Maud IS want to become the person we want her to be though?
>>
>>24328627
Apparently Trib was still able to become a Potions Professor, so it doesn't look like it deals severe brain damage.
>>
>>24328578
The only time we've seen a re-written memory is when Voldemort himself implanted a single memory. It doesn't sound like something a thirteen year old girl would be able to do. Not to mention, she has shown no remorse for her actions outside of whatever is happening in our imagination. The most she could do is wipe her memory, but since her grudge goes back throughout her entire childhood, she would be wiping herself down to nothing.
>>
>>24328648
Because she regrets her actions?
>>
“I don’t understand” you say, which has been something you’ve been saying a whole damn lot.
“The Trident was made for pureblood slytherins to take knowledge from the other houses. It was Salazar’s way of testing his followers to see if they were worthy. I saw him, he gave me a choice, take all your memories for my own or surrounder mine to the Trident”
“You mean you’re going to forget everything?”
“I don’t know how” she says, hugging you tightly. “Maybe next time I won’t be such a terrible sister to you. I’m so sorry, I let my jealousy get the better of me. It all got out of hand. I don’t ask that you forgive me, just understand”

I don't know, she seemed genuinely concerned for our safety when the boss golem showed up.

>>
>>24328698
>Surely there’s something we can do?!
>>
>>24328627
No. Remember in Deathly Hallows? Hermione completely rewrote her family's entire history: They thought they were Australian, and presumably had memories to support that.

I don't think Maud's going to do this to herself, though. I think the Trident is forcing her to become what we want her to be...if it's just memory modification, that is.

Alternatively, it could be something worse. It could be the reason that Nathaniel went crazy. It could be the reason that Slytherin became a pureblood fanatic and left Hogwarts.

I guess we'll see.
>>

“Surely there is something we can do?” you say, beginning to cry, holding your sister tight.
Maud holds you tight then looks up at Dad who still looks idly into the window, an oblivious memory unknowing of what’s really going on.
“I know I dissapointed you” she says “I wanted us to be together, to stay in the leaky cauldron, but I couldn’t see past my hate. I love you”
“I love you” you say, as the world brightens all around you, sound fading, your embrace becoming soft.
“Be careful” she says “I might not be the same”
The world fades. The cavern comes crashing back to reality. The golemn ahead of you, the Trident limp on the floor, water rising. You turn to Maud who looks around with a confused expression as if she had just woken up from a deep sleep.

This thing doesn't belong in a Museum: It belongs in a heavily warded, unbreakable container that we can keep safe from, say, the Ministry (Can you see imagine what they would do with it?).

If we leave it here, someone might find a way to retrieve it.

Same, Maud betrayal pissed me off but its not like there wasn't plenty of reason for it to happen, what with her being the rival and all.
>>
>>24329329
Maybe maud becomes a squb because of this, bringing back the squib rights plotpoint.
>>
>>24329301
Well, I'LL still be here. This is still one of the better quests on /tg/ right now.
>>
>>24329301

>Second year.

Oh boy, does that mean I get to draw Millie with a new haircut? Because she obviously wouldn't keep the same hair. Maybe a little longer.
>>
>>24329506
I hope not.

Like if there was any way way to make people incapable of using magic, don't you think it would be used as an alternative to Azkaban?
>>
>>24329502
magic hitler
>>
>>24329540
Since the year is only half over, I hope she just gets stuck in the same year as us, then we can help her study.
>>
>>24329506
That would make absolutely no sense, to be honest. I hope OP has emptied his supply of derp moments with the letter thing.
>>
>>24329540

It's possible they still use Azkaban because a criminal without access to magic is still a criminal with access to knives, or criminal skillsets and information.

Even if there isn't, it's possible a high-powered artifact could do things lower-level magic can't. It's magic, who knows.

dude HPQ said he was in it for the long hall just to outlast blatent fetish quest. we are gonna get 7 years of hairstyles

>>24329301
Cheer up, old chum! The quest has gone on for +40 threads, it's only natural for mistakes to eventually happen. After discussion it was resolved in a satisfactory way, so don't let it keep you down.
>>
I hope we still have a little more time for this year though.

Study some new spells.
Get some Wild Magic lessons.
Mend and strengthen our friendships.
Experience happiness.
>>
>>24329594
>That year we get magic cancer and have to go bald.
Not really looking forward to that.
>>
>>24329606
We also have to visit Olivia's home.
>>
>>24329568
I'm still pretty sure our parents actually disowned and abandoned us, and Maud just wanted to hurt us as badly as possible due to jealous bitch.

...Because that last letter at least was definitely unfakable.

>>24329301
You've done great, don't let the minor issues depress you.

Most of the issue here as that you, as the author, had the "privilege" of seeing your collective readers have a breakdown because of a tragic event.

In normal books, everything's set in stone. Thus, the reader simply accepts it. Here, they whine at you when things don't go their way.

Clearly, you knew where this was going from the start. They just didn't have a clue, because it was a twist in the plot-line. Their response was the problem, not your writing.
>>
>>24329625
i really can't wait for some carefree noodle armin times. going to olivias house will be like going to the buro but more special to all of us because of the time we put in to this quest.
>>
>>24329625
That follows under strengthen friendships and experience happiness.

We definitely need to meet up with Olivia though, total bro-tier character and the only stable relationship we have.
>>
>>24329638
No, the problem was OP contradicted himself, and wrote an impossible twist, which is something he acknowledged repeatedly.

>The crystal ball begins to glow dimly as a foggy image rises to the surface.

>You see yourself. You’re older, maybe by a year. You’re wearing your Ravenclaw robes. Your sister is with you, she looks older too. You’re in a room you’ve never seen before. You’re both sitting on a bed. You have your arm round Maud and she’s hugging you close. You see two suitcases sat behind you.

>“I’ll try not to be so damn forgetful” says Maud, hugging you tightly. With a loving smile on your face you kiss her on the cheek and walk out the room. You can see something on the table, a sign, it reads ‘The Leak-“

>The dreamlike vision inside the ball fades as you feel your dorm room swim back to you.

Wait...

>>“I’ll try not to be so damn forgetful” says Maud
>>forgetful

But the future refused to change...
>>
>>24329540
That would be excessive. Most (including myself, oddly), would find that to be a far worse punishment.

Think of it this way: You can spend a few years in utter misery, or you can have your arms chopped off.

Which would you choose?
>>
>>24329301
As said before, more slice-of-life, and limit the plot twists; you don't want to go M. Night Shyamalan with them.
>>
>>24329694
So... what exactly is going to happen to our parents in the next year?

Or are we just staying there overnight or something?
>>
>>24329726
It's probably so ambigously written to account for several possibilites.
>>
>>24329726
I think we really were disowned and if not they're still shitty parents and I think this Trident deal has probably made us hate the whole Slytherin house to an extent.

>>
>>24329726
Its quite possible that Maud is the one disowned after her shenanigans. With her parents refusing to budge on their decision Millie chooses to go with Maud into exile.
>>
>>24329606
We also need to put in some serious work to fix Maud. Study-montage tier amounts of work.
>>
>>24329694
>With a loving smile on your face you kiss her on the cheek and walk out the room.

Aw man, that sounds almost motherly on our part, I hope that doesn't mean that Maud is permanently regressed to a childlike state or something.

We're in the Leaky Cauldron instead of St. Mungo's, so I hope not.
>>
>>24329726
Slytherins, specifically the racist Pureblood Slytherins, will not appreciate the Wizarding world being shown just how much of a dick Salazar really was with the revelation of what the Trident does.
So our parents would still be socially ostracized for our actions.
Unless they abandon their old social circles, I don't see them welcoming us back, and that's a pretty far-fetched possibility, I think.
>>
>>24329772
Technically they might not know if we don't tell them.

Like we can just say Bergle was pressuring her or whatever.
>>
>>24329821
It was probably them to tell her to betray us.
>>
>>24329801
Yeah that's a good point, we need to make sure the world knows and appreciates just how many dicks Salazar Slytherin should suck in hell.

i've been following this quest and worrying about it and getting mad about it and all this shit for over two months. Obviously HPQ is doing something right because this is entertaining as hell.

you drawfags put it another level over the top of awesome.

also you trips give some good luls

anon you can be just as good sometimes.
>>
>>24329801
It's supposedly Ravenclaw's trident. They could protect their reputation by sticking to that claim.

If we don't tell the world first, that is.

Also, I'm pretty sure we've just been promoted to "older" sister. Luckily, she seems to have retained most, if not all, of her intellect. She just has to regain some lost skills and experience.
>>
>>24329875
>she seems to have retained most, if not all, of her intellect. She just has to regain some lost skills and experience.

what the bloody hell are you basing that off of. We literally only know that she is capable of simple motor functions.
>>
>>24329875
>They could protect their reputation by sticking to that claim.
Then we must recover the Ravenclaw Diadem, to prove once and for all that the Trident was made by Salazar to backstab Rowena and steal all her memories leaving her as an invalid.
Everyone knows that Salazar had a falling out with the others, but something so obviously meant to hurt one of the founding witches of Hogwart's would damage his reputation beyond all repair.
>>
>>24329868
>anon you can be just as good sometimes.
Good motherfucking rolls! HELL YEAH!
>>
>>24329875
It all depends on what St. Mungo's can do for her...
>>
>>24329894
SCRATCH THAT we don't even know if she can move. only have proof she can stand and look around like a fish.
>>
>>24329934
Well unless we aren't really in the Leaky Cauldron in the future, and just like, happened to bring a sign in for some reason, it doesn't seem like Maud winds up being permanently committed.
>>
>>24329894
She's speaking normal english, despite this being only a year later.

She either retained language, or learned it in a year. She's at least partially intact.

Furthermore, she's with Millie in Diagon Alley: That means that she's not broken enough to be locked up in St. Mungo's (like Lockheart was).

Admittedly, "most" may have been an assumption. We can deduce, however, that she is within a reasonable range of normal human intelligence.

Besides that:

>“The Trident was made for pureblood slytherins to take knowledge from the other houses."

It's not anything definite, but it does seem to suggest that it's simply a knowledge transfer. Pensieves and such achieve a similar effect, but do not cause brain damage. There's no reason the Trident wouldn't be consistent with this, as it's probably derived from the same magical root.
>>
>>24330029
There is a reason.
Salazar Slytherin was an unfathomable asshole.

Seriously, I'm pretty sure this is worse than the pet basilisk.
>>
>>24330029
i have been neglecting to take any dreams visions or what have yous as facts.
>>
>>24330061
New flavor of butter beer.
"~Salazar did nothing wrong!~"
>>
>>24330081
...Why?
Visions one and three happened almost exactly as we saw, with minor variants, and now it seems like two really was possible after all.
>>
>>24330061
Well, I can't argue with that, at least. Still, our vision seems to suggest she's still somewhat stable.

Oh, and she must have basic motor functions, at least. Otherwise, she's going to drown when she fails to run from the cavern. We'll likely die trying to save her, as well.
>>
>>24330104
Oh shit. I forgot about the water.
>>
>>24330104
If she's not immediately hospitalized, I think we should see if we can take her with us when we visit Olivia.

It might be interested to see how someone who is effectively a blank slate would view the muggle world and the wizarding one.
>>
>>24330003
Yeah, possibly just with slight memory problems and not the magic equivalent of downs
>>
>>24330172
Hmm...I wonder. Magic and tech would both seem to be, well, magical.

I'm guessing cars would be pretty intimidating, but so would a lot of stuff in Diagon Alley.

>>“The Trident was made for pureblood slytherins to take knowledge from the other houses."

And we know what to do once we escape.

Break it to pieces. Smelt it down and abolish all magic from its fragments.

It has no use for us personally and we are a potential target. It is a impediment in our ultimate goal.
>>
>>24330371
Not until we make it give us our sister's memories back.

And make sure the world knows, now and forever, that Salazar Slytherin was a monster.
>>
>>24330371
What? That's a terrible thing to do.
First, it contains Maud's memories, as well as those of countless others, and perhaps even those of Rowena Ravenclaw herself. Memories which are priceless and of immeasurable importance to the Wizarding world.
Second, it is evidence that we need to prove, once and for all, just how much of a backstabbing douchebag that Salazar was, and to help in stamping out the vestiges of the old wizarding world order and its racism.
