Yes, yes they were. They were also brightly colored and, while having the same basic body shape, had enough unique additions that they stood out from each other.

Looks like another Hafu original
>>
>>24341275
I once met some guy in the hall while waiting for a classroom to empty who had all the 90s cartoons on his laptop and he was watching them. ALL OF THEM.
Swatcats
Rugrats
Ah! Real Monsters
Doug
A bunch of others
It was amazing, you meet the best people in college.
>>24341892
Hafu should have been a toa. In fact, I was mighty torked off when the inika toa team was Jala, Hali, Huki, etc. They did stuff, yeah. But Hafu, Taipu, Kopeke, Maku, Kapura, and Tamaru all palled around with the toa of light!
>>
>>24341954
NO
The chronolicer and the toa if light are not the same person. They cannot be the same one. They might be the same one by the canon, but the chronolicer from mnog and takanuva are not the same. The chronolicer is just too awesome to be the toa of light
>>
>>24341954
Same. A theme in Bionicle seems to be the underdog rising up, changing, getting a chance to show off..

Then instead of going with the heroic but under-appreciated Chronicler's Company, Lego goes for all the already famous warrior matora who get all the hoes:
>Captain of the guard
>Head of the air-defence force
>The island's top inventor
>The island's top kohli player

Matoro was slightly more forgiveable because he wasn't really anything other than Nuju's aid and one of Kopaka's buddies. Same case with Hahli, with the addition of being the protag of MNOG II.

If there was no chance at all of Taipu becoming a toa, then atleast Onepu should have. He had the skill, and he seemed like a nice guy. Nuparu, if he had continued to appear in the storyline, would have worked best as a matoran character with loads of gadgets: the guy who's providing the toa teams with all their new weapons, armour, METAL BOXORS, equipment, etc.
>>
>>24341954
I didn't think it made sense that they picked Hahli over Macku and Nuparu over Onepu.
>>
I hated Taipu. He was just so autistic. Meanwhile, Onepu was arguably even more of a seasoned general than Jaller
>>
>>24342043
>Chronicler from MNOG and earlier games: adventuring bad ass who, while considered odd by most, is good at making friends, shown to be capable in a variety of dangerous situations, always tries his hardest to solve problems

>Chronicler in the movie, pre-Takanuva: snivelling childish retard with OCD whos actions are determined by "LOL HURR WUT HAPPENS IF I DO THIS" instead of bad assery. His only friend is CUPTEN OF THEH GURD (who is in turn turned into a childish wimp with a knife rather than a bad ass mother fucker who should have a deep suave voice), who he forces the duty of herald on, while the actual chronicler would gladly embrace the duty
>>
>>24342102
I don't get why Hali became the toa because Maku was Nokama's right hand man, so going by the logic of "The first matoran to recieve sets + VIP status" it should have been her.

And even worse, those assholes in the guard, the air force, and the cavalry only showed up LATE! We were already there saving the toa's asses because we took the initiative!
Jala, I love you, and you do some fuck awesome things, but you're a johnny-come-lately.
>>
>>24342134

They just picked the most recognizable matorans of each koro I think.
Nuparu was in the Boxor set, Hahli had a speaking role in the movie and so on.
That is at least, how I felt.
>>
>>24342194
It's odd that out of the 6 matoran in the kohli game in the movie, 4 became toa.
>>
>>24342158
My biggest problem with the movies is that they make the matoran out to be children. They're NOT children, they're the Average Joes of the Bionicle world! And they didn't even NEED toa until the point where a stalemate was becoming untenable (Jala's losing guards up in the snowy wastes, Le-Koro being raided repeatedly, Onu-Koro losing light so that the darkness and monsters can close in, Po-Koro and the sickness, etc.)
The toa are like.... well, honestly like how a superhero in real life would work. They'd be these larger than life figures who deal with extraordinary problems, but we can manage on our own the rest of the time.
>>
>>24342194
>>24342161
Ditto. I don't get why Hahli was chosen over Maku or even that astronomer.

I suppose as >>24342194 said, they went with the most recognisable matoran, but *why* did Lego choose to make Hahli the most recognisable ga-matoran? They randomly plopped her into the bohrok movies as a ga-matoran general or advisor, but then they suddenly put her in the movie aswell for no apparant reason, and randomly set her up as Jala's love interest.

>>24342218
Also fuck that kohli scene not having Maku and Hewki awkwardly flirting in the background after the match.
>>
>>24342252

Don't you forget that Greg himself retconned romance out of the Bionicle series.
The matorans don't love or have romances, just deep friendships at most.
>>
>>24342158
Also, he isn't even the chronicler in the movies. Yes, in the movies (and pretty much all the canon after mask of light) MNOG isn't canon
>>
>>24341954
I always saw it like this:
Primary Matoran:
Jaller, Macku, Hewkii, Matoro, Onepu, Kongu
Secondary Matoran:
Takua, Hahli, Hafu, Kopeke, Nuparu, Tamaru
Tertiary Matoran:
Kapura, Taipu, other matoran with no toy depiction whatsoever, etc

>>
>>24342250
I don't consider the movies canon for the simple fact that they were personified to begin with.

as a fan, the best bionicle movie would have been a feature-length version of what we got from mnolg. crisp animation, no voice actors, awesome atmosphere and sound effects, etc

things that let the imagination thrive and fill in the gaps, not one person or team's shitty vision that they call canon just because they have the financial backing to make mass produce a movie
>>
>>24342400
He managed to be the one evil matoran, you have to give him some credit.

>>24342405
What about toa? No?
>>
>>24342300
In one of the internet storylines, during Teridax's reign of the Matoran Universe, some of the Chronicler's Company are re-united (Maku, Tumaru and Kapuru I think) and they reminisce about their adventures with Takua.

I might be wrong, but I think the story was written by Greg, so by 2009 he might have decided that he might aswell just accept one of the most popular bits of Bionicle media as canon
>>
>>24342320
Kapura is top-tier, all categories.
Also Jala.
>>24342373

they choose hahli over macku because hali was jaller's girlfriend and macku was hewkii's. obviously, jaller gets to take his girlfriend as priority over hewkii because he's the fire element, and the fire tribe is the best, most important, bravest, most popular, most significant, best looking, etc.
>>

Jala seemed to spend most of his time being a whiny bitch when he was a toa.

What was he whining about? Matoro taking on a leader role because Jala was too busy whining about Matoro taking on a leader role because Jala was too busy whining about Matoro... it was an unending paradox loop of whine

Then he spent loads of time whining about being underwater so Hahli had to take on a leader role, while Matoro was too busy contemplating the nature of the universe before his heroic sacrifice.

Then in 2008 Lego didn't give any of the Toa Nuva individual actions or characters and they just all acted as hivemind groups, so there wasn't really any obvious leader.

After the metru nui story arch, Lego really dropped the ball on story telling and characterization, especially on the heroes.

Toa Metru at least, didn't have carbon copy personalities of the Toa Mata.

Vakama for example, wasn't a hotblooded and prideful like Tahu was.
>>
>>24342720
There was the Takua set which came with a very large Pewku.

However, the ussal crabs as they appeared in MNOG, albeit in orange rather than blue and yellow, could be built with the Bionicle Master Builder set:
http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/10023_BIONICLE_Master_Builder_Set

It was a big pot of Bionicle pieces which came with instructions for assorted rahi wild life on Mata Nui, including ussal crabs, little spiders called fikou, call little turtle things, giant lizard bird things, the ostriches which po-matoran farm, kangaroo mice thing and lots of others.
>>
>>24342789
I thought is was to have all the parts for the Kaita....

I have a question: Vakama taught Kapura the near-teleportation he uses, but where did Vakama learn it from?
>>
>>24342720
>>24342754
Oh, cool.

Yeah, not quite the same as the originals, but that's something at least.
>>
>>24342807
Vakama was WAAAY more prideful than tahu, but I guess that was attributed to being part rahi

but your point is still valid, the toa mata and toa metru were different from eachother. tahu was always a fierce leader, vakama was insecure about his leadership ability

Matoro also had Makuta whispering into his ear the whole time in Mahri Nui after Maxilos got possessed.

Matoro was the one that mattered in the Inika-Mahri arc. Jaller was less relevant than he realized. Generally, though, I've forgiven Jaller on the grounds that dying and being resurrected has got to be tough on anyone's psyche.

Jaller's death was in Mask of Light, yes. The rest of that was in no movie.

Most of the movies were okay. The Legend Reborn was AWFUL, though. God. That shit, just...ugh. The first three slowly moved up in quality; my favorite story year was and is 2004 because Metru Nui was such an awesome city and the Toa Metru were so cool.

The Legend Reborn, the Bara Magna movie, is just terrible. It's done by a different company with an animation style that's SIMILAR to the other movies, but differs in key ways that ruin the movie: for one, they added TEETH. Individually animated teeth, that actually move almost like they're lips. Just...WHAT. It's so bizarre to look at. There's also the inconsistency of the animation: while characters and small environments are animated with a level of detail not seen in any prior BIONICLE movie, big landscapes look like Baldur's Gate FMV cutscenes. It's incredibly jarring.

There's also the fact that the dialogue is pretty much awful, the voice acting is frequently "off", and as much as I love Michael Dorn, he's not a good Mata Nui.

My personal grudge against Jim Cummings might also be poisoning my opinion (he plays Ackar, and in his usual "I'm Jim Cummings, because actually doing a voice other than my own is beyond my capacity" way).
>>
>>24344041

The only voice work I liked in TLR was Metus, and that was stained by the fact that his motivations for being the traitor were pretty much incomprehensible. It's like, Ahkmou's motivations were petty and stupid, but at least he was being threatened into it by a demi-god. Metus sold out everyone to the Skrall with no threats. It's like approaching Darth Vader with an offer of the Rebel base's location as long as you get to rule the chunks of it left over after the Death Star blows it up, and he doesn't have to coerce you into it at all.

Awesome. Why are we even up at this hour?

Now, I want to get caught up with Bionicle lore, where should I start? The wiki is probably good but are there comics or novels that could be read? They're more up my alley.

Also a topic for everyone, what was your first touch to Bionicle? For me it was my neighboring boy's collection since I couldn't have any cool toys for myself because my parents thought that girls can't have awesome things. Then I saw the movies and at least I got all of them on DVD.

The chapter books are the main story. Chronicles isn't TOO crucial; mostly it's okay stories featuring the Toa Mata, and expansions of the comic book scenes.

Adventures is where they started telling more of their own stories, and where the books became the main way of dealing with the plot. One of them, Maze of Shadows, was even adapted into a pretty decent GBA RPG.

After that, you hit the BIONICLE Legends era, where things got more touch-and-go. Legacy of Evil is fantastic, but the ones before that tended to wobble on quality, and the ones after it never quite reached its level. Once everything gets to Mahri Nui, the Legends books become okay, if unexceptional, and they basically stay that way until the end.

My introduction to BIONICLE was in December 2000, when LEGO Magazine put a preview on the back cover of their magazine, showing Tahu and Vakama. I looked at that and said "that looks cool". Then the first comic showed up with a LEGO Magazine a few months later and I was hooked.

Alright, milady I shall endeavor to explain.
Did you play the Mata Nui Online Game? If you did, maybe you remember the climatic battle that involved the toa facing the Makuta below while you and your companions were joined by goddamn everybody to defend their exit route?
In the books, that doesn't happen. The toa never fight the Makuta, they only fight half-assed shadow clones of themselves. Once the clones are defeated, the toa just leave.
That sets the stage for the whole thing, really; disappointing.
>>
>>24344652

Also, should mention: Chronicles was written in 2003, when there had already been two years of established story work done by various teams of people. Where Chronicles conflicts with other material, it takes precedent, though anything else can be considered to work.

This DOES mean that some of the cooler things, like certain segments of MNOG, are non-canon, which is sad, but the books ramped up in quality after Chronicles, so at least there's that.

>>

go play MNOLG and read the comics. that is the best way to get into the lore. do not go read the wiki, as it is a massive spoilerfest and will confuse the shit out of you
>>
>>24347066
the animations from MNOG came out when the original toyline began. The only way that you could learn about the lore was to read the different bios on bionicle.com, read the comics that came with the lego magazine, and play MNOG. There also were a few promo CDs you could install with some cool CG animations and bios.

the books, miramax movies, etc didnt come out until lego started making bank and realizing the value of their new IP.

Tuyet was one of the toa on Lhikan's team, back in Metru Nui.
Bitch went nuts, sent the rest of their team off to their deaths and tried to gain ultimate power using the toa stones. Then she dies/gets killed, thus making Lhikan the ONLY toa on Metru Nui.
This appears to be a common problem, because we are told that there used to be enough toa to make an actual army, but now there's like.... thirty? MAYBE?

First time I heard about the Bionicle was back as a kid hearing on the news about how the local Maori tribes were getting pissy over the use of the name Tohunga (they changed it to Matoran because of it).

And yes, NZfag here.

And then me and my brother got taken to the toystore with our dad, who bought us one each. I got Tahu, he got Onua.

Later on, he got Kopaka and I got Pohatu.

Shit was awesome man. Especially since, growing up with a Maori culture, we both knew a lot of backstory from Maoro myth and art that we imagine applied to the Bionicle.
>>
>>24349149
The man known as Farshtey. He wrote the comics and the novels, and also declared the budding romance of Huki and Maku to be... untenable. As for how steeped he is in the origins of the universe we discuss and remember, I know not.
I know only that he has gone from benevolent deity to reviled writer. And I have heard tell that he continues the work. Aye, even unto the ending of the story and beyond, it continues with no plan or script, no rhyme or reason.
A horror to behold.
>>
>>24348906

Toa Tuyet was a Toa of Water from early in Lhikan's career. She took an artifact called the Nui Stone from its resting place and fled to Metru Nui, joining Lhikan in fighting the Kanohi Dragon.

The Nui Stone's theft led its protectors to hire the Dark Hunters to track her down. So she started killing Matoran, leaving their bodies visibly around Metru Nui, and framing the Dark Hunters for the murders. When Lhikan found out, he destroyed the stone, and the fragments embedded themselves in her armor. Botar, jailer of the Pit, took her from Metru Nui and imprisoned her in the Pit, the Order of Mata Nui's distant underwater prison.

After the Pit went tits up in the Great Cataclysm, Tuyet managed to fake her own death and escape, leaping from universe to universe with the rebuilt Nui Stone. She eventually wound up back in the prime one, after Makuta took it over, and joined the failed effort to overthrow Makuta. When that fell apart, she managed to be part of group when they were plucked out of space by a complete psychopath reaching through a portal.

TL;DR: It's complicated, but she's a fallen Toa.

He's been on the story team since the comic started up.

Bob Thompson, though, is the one who headed the team until 2005.

Farshtey never got free reign, but his influence got ramped up, and most of the subplots are his babies, even if the main story was more team-built.
>>
>>24349296
Shit man, its been so long.

The entire cultural aspects between Bionicle and Maori culture are amazing, though.

Like all the differing tribes, the sacred old men (although the Ko-Koro and Nuju are the only ones that pulled it off in comparison), the massive, dangerous spirits that are really powerful but shouldn't trust with your life, the men becoming heroes through fighting the gods, some gods being total bro, others being unending dicks, all that good stuff.
>>
>>24349347
Truly, I did not know these things. I thank you for straightening my tangled yarn.
>>24349418
>sacred old men, dangerous spirits, men becoming heroes through fighting the gods, all the good stuff
I hunger for knowledge. If indeed these things are written, I shall find them. Mythology of all kinds interests me. It is a strange thing to be the only one with a decent grasp of greek and norse mythology as well as a surface knowledge of Tolkien's spirited attempt to emulate the former.
I shall add the Maori legends to my mystical collection.
>>
>>24349347
David slayed Goliath, but he went on to become a corrupt king.

I can guarantee that Farshtey's vision of Bionicle evolved and changed over the years, and unfortunately there was no system of checks and balances to prevent that.

Thompson left of his own will. This was not a hostile takeover. This was not Gygax vs. Williams.

Its just that, after learning all the myths in school, you can look at the bionicle religious beliefs, and see how both of them are so similar.

Like the legend of Maui.
This guy is literally the Bro of all Maori.

To start with, he goes out fishing from the Maori home island that all Maori hail from with his bothers. Together they go fishing and his brother's all fish up some big fish and think that they're hotshit.

What Maui does, is fish up the entirety of the North Island. His brothers tell him to stop, and he goes Lolno and pulls the entire thing up to the surface.

Then, after pulling of that awesome feat, he says, 'bro, Imma have a nap'. While he sleeps, the Brothers, all jealous as of his catch, chop up the entire back of the fish for meat. Hence, why the island is so mountainous.

Then there is the time were the Sun, cunt that it was, wouldn't stop fucking around with the time and heath, burning things or making the day to slow/long.

So what Maui does, is go to the underworld, and beg for his grandfathers jawbone. Then, after giving his granddad a mean feed, he goes up, with his brothers, and beats the shit out of the sun, telling it to sort its shit out or else.

Such a fucking bro.
>>
>>24349595
All I'm saying is Farshtey basically went off into fanfic mode with a quite massive amount of influence. Bionicle ended up dieing with less than a whimper because of it.

I don't get exactly why Vakama joins the dark side while everyone is beastified. What exactly did Roodaka offer him? Inb4 dat ass and dem titties To my best recollection, she offered him power and a kingdom, which is not something he's ever really wanted.

Are you the Finnish guy? Nonethless I'm proud of your drawing skills. Do you draw toas or just matorans?
>>
>>24376718
>>24376763
The biggest problem is the amount of flax you need to do fucking anything

You need something like 50 flax, crafted into nets, to make a kolhii stick in the first chapter in order to get some money, but the chapter is on a timer so if you don't grind like mother fucking Usain Bolt then you're out of money

Then in chapter 2 you need loads of flax to make the assorted ship parts, and the only way to make good money in chapter 2 is to get rigging, which requires something like 150 flax total.
>>
>>24377431
>on a timer
Wha-ha? Since when?! Maybe I was just good at grind, so I never had to contend with it...
>>
>>24377459
After a certain amount of time the bells start ringing and the horns start blowing, telling you that Nokama has arrived back in town.

After the cut scene where Nokama says you're the town's other kolhii player, you lose the option to give Macku the kolhii stick, meaning you miss out on a 100 widgets.

It *might* be triggered by a certain event, but I don't think so, because it seems to go off regardless of where I am or what I'm doing when I play

What did the Ko-matorans do in the first gen? Did they just sit on a mountain and be cold? I remembered pretty much everyone else had a purpose, but what did they do?
>>
>>24377657
They were philosophers. They looked at the stars, read the Wall of Prophecy, that kind of thing.

They didn't really benefit the island in anyway, but they were pretty isolated and didn't use up much resources, so it didn't matter that they weren't giving seeing as they weren't really taking in the first place
>>
>>24377635

Sigh

Also a small wargame update soon (tonight or tommorow).
>>
>>24377657
They read the Wall of Prophecy and interpreted things.

It's been some time since I played MNOG, but I think you could read some of the closer sections of the wall, and they said things like "What do you get when you multiply six by nine" (from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

I'd say it wasn't really her army, but they're all loyal to the only competent leader they have.
And why did Sidorak never hit Roodaka with his Loyalty Ray? Aside from 'he's just that stupid', I mean.
>>
>>24378255
I think that, despite Greg's anti-love ramblings, Sidorak was meant to have actually developed feelings for Roodaka.

Obviously politics, serivng the Brotherhood and commanding the Visorak came first, but I think Sidorak did start to feel for Roodaka, so maybe he would have felt guilty if he just rhotuka'd her.

And Sidorak was a competent leader. He was a smart guy, just not as smart as Roodaka.
>>
>>24378333
Competent? Hmm, that's not the impression I got from the movie and other materials. He seemed more like a loud fool than anything, but that's what I get for paying too much attention to the books and movies. They tended to paint Roodaka as the pants-wearer in the relationship; smart, confident, confident and ruthless.
Then Keetongu crushes him like a tin can.
>>
>>24377379

She was playing on his insecurities as leader of the Toa Metru. Vakama felt like he'd led his team into a trap and gotten them changed into the Hordika. He felt like the team resented him for it. And in return, he resented them.

So Roodaka offered him the chance to lead an army of essentially disposable, interchangeable spiders that would gladly march off the top of a tower for him. MUCH easier. They'll never complain, never disobey, and you can afford to lose them.
>>
>>24370370

What is lying but a believable performance?
>>
>>24360023

Lewa's not a stoner. He's far too energetic for that.

He does seem very flighty/flaky though.

Gali mostly just doesn't get along with Tahu. They clash over leadership stuff. Other than that, she's pretty chill to everyone.

But Pohatu and Onua were by far the best toa in the movie, god yes. Bro tier all the way.
>>
>>24378333

>Sidorak was a competent leader

No he wasn't. Even in the books and the comics, he wasn't. He was a pretentious coward who only won battles through overwhelming force with the Visorak.

He was still POWERFUL, but no, he wasn't that bright.

Roodaka's whole schtick was that she was cozying up to him promises of marriage (which would ally his Visorak army with her own forces from Odina, substantially increasing his power, so there are plenty of incentives beyond tapping that) in order to take command herself. If Sidorak was feeling something for Roodaka, that's exactly what Roodaka wanted. Makes him that much easier to manipulate.
>>
>>24378394
Roodaka was the true power of the relationship; the only reason Sidorak was true leader and she was viceroy was because Sidorak took credit for a few of her ideas.

However, that's how Sidorak got almost anywhere. He always took credit for underling's and allies' victories. While most of his power came from lying and cheating, Sidorak was still a skilled fighter, tactician and leader nevertheless.

His bluff skill was also high as hell, seeing as he managed to trick Teridax and the rest of the Makuta into believing that he was a millitary genius of the highest degree.

So, he was competent, just horribly egotastical and really only capable of living in the moment rather than planning ahead.
>>
>>24377410

Yeah, I am the Finnish guy.
I have not yet entirely decided on how I would draw the Toa, which is why my depictions of Tahu and Pohatu are not entirely in the same style. Most differences are in the appearances of their legs and arms.
>>
>>24378564
Didn't much care for Onua in that movie. He was supposed to be the 'wise one', slow and purposeful. In the movie he just seemed like some meatheaded construction overseer.
>>
>>24378689
>Sidorak
>Skilled fighter
>tactician
>leader
We're not buying it, Sidorak, just go home and stop embarrassing yourself.
>>
>>24378793
Don't you know that children can't connect with wisdom? And especially not with slow and purposeful! Children are sugar-fueled and need a whiny helpless self-insert to relate to, that's why we have tweedledee and tweedledum palling around with a dangerous artifact and a giant crab!
>>
>>24378924

But the Mask of Light isn't dangerous. Powerful, yes, but a force for good.

And in everything post-MNOG (and pre, if you played the first GBA BIONICLE game) Takua was the kind of guy who just happens to slip into the most important shit going down by accident, not the guy who actively seeks it out. His bio on the old website as early as 2002 described him as a guy who had either the best timing ever or the worst timing ever, nobody was quite sure which.

He trips into important events. Always has. And the only time he did any fighting of his own was slinging disks on the bird in MNOG.

The fight at the island's center was Takua directing the others Matoran because they were all better fighters and needed someone to lead them. Gali defeated the Tarakava at Ga-Koro. Lewa was saved from his infected mask by Onua. Kopaka fought off a Muaka in Ko-Wahi on his own.

All Takua really did in MNOG was witness other people doing awesome shit, not do it himself. He's always been helpless but lucky.
>>
>>24378564
>Gali mostly just doesn't get along with Tahu. They clash over leadership stuff
Isn't that Kopaka's job?
>>
>>24379637
The mask itself isn't dangerous, but having it IS. Especially since one of the two people charged with looking after it died (how do you even die from 'fear', seriously? And if Jala could be made to die from fear, he'd have been dead a long time ago).
And yes, Takua tends to accidentally stumble into things and thus makes an excellent audience avatar, because we too are going around with no idea what we're doing. But he's not a coward, and he's certainly not the person who's in the movie.
The Takua we know and love would have found the mask and gone "oh shit, we need to tell somebody about this".

>omstanf Lives!
But who is Omstanf, captcha? WHO!?
>>
>>24379637
He didn't mean to stumble into all the crazy shit, but when he did stumble into it, he did his best to stick around. He never pussied out or said "welp, I didn't mean to be here, why should I stick around?"

He'd get involved, even if he wasn't there on purpose, hence why he got to be Chronicler.

The movie turned him into a whiny shit who, despite beiong the chronicler, never wanted to stick around for any of the stuff he saw. He just wanted to fuck off and dump everything on Jala. The movie writers butchered his personality (not the 'bad luck' part, the 'embracing bad luck' part) just so they could force in a spiritual/emotional enlightment moment towards the end.
>>
>>24379743
>"oh shit, we need to tell somebody about this"
and not hide it like an idiot
>>
>>24379637

That was only really in MNOG because he was the player character.
In the bohrok short animations, he puts himself in direct danger by flinging himself to the island where the other matoran are trapped, and goes face to face against the bohroks.
He was prepared to fight them, and again in the bohrok kal animations, not he also faces against Tahnok Kal. He doesn't get to do any direct fighting, because his foes in the animations at least either just ignore him (tahnok kal) or are defeated due to the actions of the Toa like in the case of the bohrok.
What his actions however do show that he is not cowardly at all.
Also, he willingly joins the Toa Nuva on their hunt for the Bohrok kal, along with Jala.
>>
>>24379760
>embracing bad luck
"Or as I like to call it; Unexpected Adventures," said Takua.
>>
>>24379780
Well, obviously. Takua went and told somebody about the bohrok, even if Vakama already knew about it.

A skakdi warrior who gained the power to come back from the dead about Spiria experimented on the skakdi species.

The first time he came back from the dead, many witnessing the revival yelled "Omstanf lives!" in shock, leading to many skakdi yelling this or a similar phrase when taken by surprise.
>>
You are now realizing Jaller actually was the Herald of the 7th Toa.

Heralds go before the person they are herald of and make way for him. Jaller made way for Takua to become Takanuva.

Takua can't be the Herald, because he IS the 7th Toa, and you can't be your own Herald, because once you're there, there's nothing to Herald.

Varies by game. My actual FireRed theme is historical figures.

I named my Squirtle Churchill, for instance. My female Spearow is Earhart.

HeartGold, Greek gods. Hephaestos the Quilava currently leads the party, backed up by, among others, Atlas the Golem and Tethys the Staryu.

And my Black version has sort of general nerdy names, Galadriel the Serperior, Samurott Jack, LadyOfPain the Sigilyph, stuff like that. When I could think of a good name. I think my Excadrill is still just Excadrill, and my Zweilous is just Zweilous. For now.

The Inika masks are not just different looking version's of the toa mata's kanohi.
>>
>>24376934
they probably used adobe illustrator to create the images as vectors.
>>
>>24380389

Oh, I am perfectly aware of that.
What I meant was that each of the matorans who became toa Inika had the same mask as the toa mata of their element had.
>>
>>24378924
I was like 8 years old when I immediately connected with Onua. He had both intelligence and strength, that's like cheating.
>>
>>24379729
Kopaka didn't get along with anyone.
>>
>>24380438
I kinda think that was due to the fact that when all those matoran came out, lego didnt have the budget yet to create 6 different masks just for mcdonalds promotions
>>
>>24380587
And therein lies the problem with marketing; your target audience ends up liking different characters than you intended.

>>24380612
He had a bromance with Pohatu.
>>
>>24379729

Gali didn't like HOW Tahu led. Kopaka didn't like THAT Tahu led.

Honestly, though, the best teams are the ones that argue, because it forces everyone to critically examine their own positions and each other's.
>>
>>24380438
>>24380700
Hahli didn't even EXIST when Bionicle first came out. The Ga-matoran at that time was Maku!
>>
>>24380587

My favorite as a kid was always Tahu, but after I matured a bit, it became Bro-hatu all the way.

But after the Toa Metru hit, it was Vakama until we got introduced to Lhikan. And now it's Lhikan forever.

He died for your sins, you know.
>>
>>24380612

Yeah. Pohatu said it best:

Kopaka:
"I work alone."
Pohatu:
"Because you prefer it that way, or because no one else can stand you?"

In general, the personalities I recall the Toa Mata having were these:

Tahu: Prideful, hotblooded and slightly arrogant.
Kopaka: Cold, calculating but very competent.
Lewa: Carefree, kind of an prankster.
Gali: Cautious, co-operative and wise. Was most concerned about maintaining the unity of the Toa.
Onua: Wise, somewhat stoic, but in general perhaps the most reliable of the Toas.
Pohatu: Fun loving and competitive, but also very protective of his people.
>>
>>24380700

That's not really my point.
It was just the general observation that each matoran who became toa inika had the same mask as the toa mata of their element.
And besides, not all mc donalds toy matorans became Toa. Hahli and Nuparu were introduced later.
>>
>>24380700

But every mask of every matoran in the Mata Nui era was a recolor of either the Toa masks or the Turaga masks.

Maku was actually the only McMatoran to not get a recolor of her Toa's mask. I guess they didn't want to put a clear plastic mask into the toys? Is clear plastic difficult to work with or something? I honestly don't know.

What I DO know is that Metru Nui had the best-designed toys. Those gearbox Toa bodies and the tall Matoran, hell yes.
>>
>>24380815
I'm kind of partial to Iruni, myself. The design makes him look much more athletic than the other toa, I don't even know how, but that's how it strikes me.
Three favorite toa have to be Iruni, Takanuva and Onua.
Maybe someday I'll get Lhikan to add to my collection.
>>
>>24380839

What are the main differences between Pohatu and Lewa? They seem to be kind of the same character type.

Also, how did Kopaka and Lewa get along?
>>
>>24380968
>Iruni
>Not Norik

What are you doing, anon?
>>
>>24380891

Am the only one who was sad that Onepu completely ceased to have any relevance to anything ever after the Bohrok Wars? I mean, at least Macku got to be a star kolhii player.
>>
>>24381008
My favorites tend to be limited to sets I actually have. And I just don't have Norik. I'd have also loved to see the rest of the Hagah team get sets.
>>
>>24380999

"Hey there, Toa-brother, I've got a present for you!"

"What is it now, Lewa?"

"It's a can of those delicious goko nuts you so love from the forest."

"I highly doubt that. That can is more than likely going to shoot out some spring loaded contraption or something."

"Your blame-talk hurt my man-feelings, brother. Do you honestly think I would do such a thing?"

"Okay, fine. Let me see that."

Kopaka opens the can, and sure enough, several spring loaded snake things shoot out of it.

"I got you good, Toa-Brother."

"I hate you so much Lewa."
>>
>>24380999
Lewa was way more hot blooded. Always act before thinking, rushing the fastest he can on the enemy. He also changed objectives like the wind, and didnt tell jokes
>>
>>24380999

Lewa comes across as pretty flaky. I would imagine Kopaka would hate him, but I can't remember the two of them interacting in any context outside of times when all six Toa were together at once. I don't think they every did much together.

Pohatu is more boisterous and gives off a more "solid" impression, as if nothing can wreck his good attitude or scare him. Lewa, on the other hand, was the designated "get his shit wrecked" Toa for the first few years, and Le-Koro was the designated "get its shit wrecked" village. Le-Koro was raided by Nui-Rama, and Lewa got hit with an infected mask. Then, Le-Koro was fucked over by Bohrok, and Lewa got slapped with a krana.

In this respect -- and no other -- he's like Cyclops from X-Men: if something bad has to happen to somebody, it's going to happen to him.

I like to think that Lewa's upbeat energy in Mask of Light stems from his desperate attempts to compensate for the shit he's had to put up with.

His impression of flakiness may stem from his own feelings of powerlessness over this. He might actually think he is unreliable, even though he clearly isn't.
>>
>>24381147
So you would say that Lewa is a bit ...floaty?
>>
>>24381080
Yesss
Yessssss
>>
>>24381147
It's annoying that Lewa is MIA (much like the toa mahri) due to being captured.
>>
>>24381147

Actually, come to think of it, Lewa is STILL the designated "get his shit wrecked" Toa after all these years. In the 2009 subplots, he runs into BIONICthulhu, a being named Tren Krom who was banished to and rooted into a cavern after the Great Beings decided to put Mata Nui in charge of the universe instead.

Tren Krom tricks him into a body swap that lasts for a long-ass time, and almost loses Lewa's body in an attempt to overthrow Makuta. Lewa got back to his body because Artakha was like "I know what you did, Tren Krom, and FUCK YOU."
>>
>>24380999
>>24381127
>>24381147
Lewa is sort of a bad ass air head, in my opinion.

He just kind of runs around and does stuff without thinking, but he still amnages to kick ass.

However, as others have said, he often gets his shit wrecked because he hasn't thought things through.

Pohatu is similarly friendly and care free. However, Pohatu's actions seem to be driven more out of things he think would be fun or what would benefit others, rather than just "hey man I wonder what happens if I.."
>>
>>24381195
Then, after Artahka kicked Tren Krom back out of Lewa, Lewa and all the others he was with got teleported into space, then teleported by Vezon into the cell of a crazy Great Being who touched the Mask of Life.

Things went well for Lewa in the rahkshi attacks, then no other time ever.
>>
>>24381195

I liked how Tren Krom found out about Makuta's plan in Federation of Fear and then went "oh FUCK."

When Cthulhu is like "shit, I'm out", you know you're screwed.
>>
>>24381147
>>24381235
Yeah, Lewa is actually really good at what he does when he isn't designated damsel in distress. He even has enough willpower to take the krana off himself when given the opportunity. His only real problem is that he's a planner.

Pohatu is a funloving guy, but he's also rock-solid dependable. He also tends to make really good split-second plans. He even notes when he makes BAD plans, like during the Bohrok animations where he saves Hafu but ends up being trapped himself. Of course, them he has the brilliant idea to catapult himself via levitation, stone-power, and telepathy.

Yeah, but remember that the comic is for advertising the toys as well as telling the story. So the writers probably thought, "Oh the kids won't know what happened if they suddenly show up in their old forms. We need them to know that these are the toys that they can buy at the nearest Walmart! Nobody from five years ago still plays with Bionicles!"

Or, if we want an in-universe explanation, then perhaps the Toa Nuva can control when their armor adapts. I guess.

Also, today I discovered that brickshelf has terrible image quality.

BIONICLE's always been kind of a sausage fest. I never noticed.

i know. but it mad more sense to me that the coins are used only in the koros, so the adventurers will not be using them much. but i will add it (im just too lazy to make prices to weapons and armor)

game makers high five!
and when im done with the skills, yes, i will

The koros are the only settlements, so I don't know where else you expected to do any trading.

I think Po-Koro still finds itself doing a lot of barter because I'm pretty sure they have a bunch of farmers (yeah, farmers in the desert, inorite), but otherwise, widgets.

Was that game any good?
I only have the bullshit Bionicle The Game.
>>
>>24382513
It was simple fun, for a while.
>>
>>24382513
It was fun, but not very Bionicle-y.

It was a shooter with nice levels and a Bionicle theme, but entirely non-canon and there was pretty much no story or anything.

Also I really really really liked Bionicle the Game. Yes, it fucked over the story, but I found it really fun and the levels were nice.
>>
FUCK YOU ONEPU STOP STEALING THE KOLHII BALL FROM ME YOU RAGING FAGGOT

ALSO FUCK YOU TAKEA SHARK I KEEP CATCHING YOU AND IT KEEPS SAYING +1 SPEED BUT I'M NOT GOING ANY FASTER FUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
>>
>>24382513

BIONICLE Heroes was okay. I heard the DS version was the highest-rated version.

On the GBA, it's pretty bullshit. On anything else, you have an over-the-shoulder shooter with the most aggressively helpful auto-aim the world has ever seen and no ammo system, plus the fact that collecting enough bricks puts you in "Hero Mode", where you are invincible until you activate Hero Mode stuff.

Because of Hero Mode, you will hear the Hero Mode music and be invincible for about 2/3-3/4 of the game. Most of the other 1/4 of the game is boss battles.

It's as easy as pissing, but at least it's pretty, and giving each Toa their own interactions with the environment and their own weapons was cool (you can switch between Toa at absolutely any time, if you've already picked up their mask for the level, and they function as a combination of extra lives and new guns; Jaller's weapon is basically a submachine gun, Hahli's is a beam, Hewkii's is a rocket launcher, Nuparu's got a grenade launcher, Kongu has a shotgun, and Matoro fires a sniper rifle)

The DS version apparently is the console version but as an FPS with better level design. Reviewers compared the DS version to a kids' version of Metroid Prime: Hunters.
>>
>>24382656

Well, the DS version is SIMILAR to the console version, anyway, but with better level design and less "HURR DURR I'M INVINCIBLE".

I really didn't like how Pohatu's level was a minecart and nothing else. And I can't even remember if Onua got a level at all. Tahu got two levels and the second one was fucking BULLSHIT, I remember that.
>>
>>24382707

The Minecart was surprisingly fun, though.

Onua's level was right after Pohatu's, and was the most "normal" level in the game after the starting Tahu level. No swimming shit like Gali, no flying shit like Lewa, just run around, fire elemental energy at stuff, push heavy statues occasionally, and then fight a Rahkshi by breaking the machine it's inside of.

Tahu Nuva's surfing level was pretty bad, mostly because of how he responded to accidentally bumping into anything ever and how many things there were to bump into.

>tfw I can relate to this stage of rage, I think, having to re-start MNOG for 6 times already

Then I gave up on the version up on internet and just loaded the damn game.
>>
There is ONE canon BIONICLE vidya, btw.

The very first GBA game, where you play as Takua going around and collecting the different toa stones, then bringing them together at the Kini Nui to summon the Toa Mata.

Doing so unleashes a huge beam of energy that acts as a beacon, but also carries Takua up into the air, then drops him, causing his MNOG amnesia.

The MNOG begins. MOST of MNOG is canon; where it conflicts with the books, though (like, say, the ending), the books take precedent.
>>
>>24382872
>the books take precedent where it conflicts with AWESOME
Like HELL they do.

>>24382791
Oh, I guess he did get a level. I haven't played that game in years. It was such a mediocre game that most of it is just gone from my memory.

Tahu and Onua's levels are the best because they're the least gimmicky.

Lewa and Gali's follow up close behind, because they were fun, but the flying and swimming mechanics were a bit annoying.

Kopaka's level was fun in my opinion, but a bit annoying at times.

Pohatu's level was fun, but not very good. He's got the mask of speed, there was loads of potential for dashing along at high speeds and kicking stuff, but instead you get the minecart.

Tahu Nuva's level was shit-tier. It could have been a fun version of Kopaka's level. Instead it was an extremely erratic, buggy version which often killed you unfairly.

Takanuva's level was.. alright, but it was really just a boss fight with annoying falling floors. It would have been nice if there was a bit where you rode the Ussa Nui or got to play as Takanuva through a regular level version of Mangaia.

I really liked the scenery, because it showed off how big Mata nui was and how the matoran have built it. Little outpost villages, statues dotted about, etc.

They should have incorporated mask powers though. Tahu had a crappy shield, if I recall, but I think all toa got that. Kopaka could zoom in, but it served no purpose. Gali's mask power was only present in that she was the only toa who didn't die on contact with water. Pohatu was in the minecart, so no speed. Onua's mask power was just ignored other than the statue pushing. Lewa had flight, but it was only used a few times and the mechanics were crappy; it would have been better if you could activate it at any time in order to slow down falling.

I was always kinda upset with the lack of melee combat in any of the Bionicle games.
Despite all the characters having swords, claws, axes and other melee weaponry, they all just fought with beams of elemental energy.

But we can't have violence in a Lego game, anon! The children will try to emulate it!
