>Also, my desktop's videocard is dead, so let's see how well I can do with my laptop! Even plugged in my monitor and keyboard into the laptop, so it shouldn't be much of a problem, it's just an irritation for me.

Your name is Heather, and you're currently walking through the hall with a centaur that acts and sounds exactly like Sarvesh. He looked almost entirely different, other than the general centaur shape. His personacom was a bangle around his upper pincer, currently off, but with a strange cable and plate connected to the back of Sarvesh's headplate, against where you think his ears are.
"Yes, I still have these growths." He said, scratching at one of the small spikes between plates of his thicker carapace. "They're mostly chitin. I'll need to file them off later."
Then he shrugged.
"The way Max explained things to me, they'll want to talk to each of us in turn. Right now they're interviewing Summer. Apparently her parents are here, too." He said, walking. Then he appraised you with a look.
"... Are you still angry at me about being stupid earlier? Or are you angry about something else?"
>>
>>24379088

...I'm still not happy that you wanted to do something like that, but I understand why. I'm a little more concerned about Anna; there's someone here today she doesn't like.
>>

What card were you using?

"No, it's fine. It'll take a bit of getting used to your new look though."

something else. Anna isn't here right now because her ex-boyfriend is. One of the bodygaurds I guess. He invited her to 'screw around.'

...

He must have hurt her very badly.

"One of the bodyguards knows Anna. There's bad blood between them."
>>
>>24379088
"No, it's not you."
>>

"No, sorry, not angry at you. I miss your arm, though. Bad blood between Anna and one of the bodyguards. Promised to maim him, if I had the chance."

>an amd radeon hd 5570. It's a few years old, and the fan died. It didn't melt, but it throws up a 'checkerboard' of static and various artifacts whenever I turn it on.

"I'm still not happy that you wanted to do something like that, but I understand why." You say, and Sarvesh nodded sagely. "It'll take a bit of getting used to your new look, though."
"I actually gained an extra finger." He said, and raised his lower arms - he had six claws rather than five on each hand, now. "And my mandibles are sharper. I have to get used to my own new look, too."
"I'm a littlem ore concerned about Anna; There's someone here today she doesn't like."
"That's what she told Max, if the gossip is correct." He said, walking.

Eventually, you almost walked into Jilly, and saw two heavily armored men with rifles standing with their backs to a door.
"Summer's in there." Jilly said, brandishing a thumb to the door.

<Can you describe the, uh, prick? To me, so that I get the right guy?> to Anna

"Are Summer's parents really on station?"

"did you get interviewed already?"

we never did ask Anna what Hound looked like.

"Hi Jilly! Have you already been interwieved? If yes how did it go?"
>>
>>24379241
we can also troll through their stuff to find the one nicknamed hound.

I have all sorts of interesting things planned for this guy. Suddenly finding his tech goes on the fritz at random times. His bank account freezing up. Getting hit by every criminal charge in the book.

And I just had an ugly thought. Anna is pretty young. If this guy is older imma be real pissed.
>>
>>24379217
I'm still using a 4870, I had problems like that for a while. Reseating it, blowing out the dust and underclocking it stopped that.

"Is there a list of who's going when? What did they get you to do, Jilly?"
>>
What's Anna's designation again?
And what should we call ourselves?
When we're demonstrating our technopathy, message should be something along...
"Never even think about [Anna's designation], Hound, or the Drakeling will bring pain."
>>
>>24379241
We'll find out. Rho knows him, right?
>>
>>24379297

>Also, as evident by my lack of proficiency in everything else, I don't into /g/ either.

"Are Summer's parents really on the station?"
"Yeah." Jilly said. "They're one of the people funding the institute."
"Did you get interviewed already? How did it go?"
"Yeah. It's pretty simple. They asked me questions about my powers, and my transgenes, and stuff. It was all pretty simple."

You close your eyes, and reach out to the wyvern not far from here.
<Can you describe the, uh, prick to me? So that I get the right guy?>
<Yeah, here.> She said, and you caught an image- of an older man, roguishly handsome. He looked a little like Newt, in a strange way, with black and blonde hair, and a scar on his lower lip. <That's what he looks like.>
He was about a decade older than Anna, at the least, based on his appearance.
>>
>>24379283
Holy shit. We don't even know what this guy did. 'Volunteering' him for a couple of painful demonstrations is fine but we don't want to just run in and ruin his life.

"Demonstrations come later." Sarvesh said.

Still thinking on Anna's mental image, you grumble and mumble to yourself, and Jilly and Sarvesh gave you a Look.
"Sorry, I'm a little... upset, at the moment. If you excuse me, I must... meditate before my turn."
"... O-okay." Jilly said, and slithered away, taking Sarvesh's lower arm and leading him away as well.

>Anna is 19 years old, last you recall, though she looks much younger than that- no doubt due to her developmental problems. Rho's a bit smaller, and she's been artificially accelerated to 16, though she has similar developmental problems. Age of consent in UPA space for humans is 'at least 14', but almost every world sets their consent ages higher- usually 16, 18, or 20. Heaven's Jewel is 16 most of the time, 18 in some places.

You open yourself up to the world, taking in all of the electronic information soaring through the air, and you pick something up, not far from you. Keirnan Valas, age 26, Male, 6'3 height, Exosuit is an MK-12 Artemis.
He was standing... next to an aged old man, in your dorm, sitting on Summers bed. Next to him was Summer and Winter, the single exosuited soldier- Hound, it seemed- at ease, trying to stay out of the conversation between the 'three'.
>>
>>24379715
I'd imagine exosuits get a bit stuffy. They probably have to regulate temperature to stop the wearer sweating like a pig.

Perhaps we should ask it kindly to stop.

stay out of the conversation, that's non of our business.

don't do anything to him, if we later on explain our psionics he might link it to us and figure out why we specifically targeted him.

and then he'll pry for contact with Anna and he'll never leave us alone.
>>
>>24379832
>he'll never leave us alone.

>>24379903
No, I'm pretty sure we can do steam engines too. We can already hydraulics, and that's effectively what all steam power is.
>>
Kindly, you reach into the exosuit's heat regulator, and switch up the humidity a bit, making it warmer, a bit more humid... and then you kindly ask it to lock Hound out if he tried to change the controls. The suit, obedient as always, agreed easily. The suit wasn't incredibly advanced- it was two or three years behind, as were most of the bodyguards' suits, but it wasn't as ancient as the marines that occupied the station. His personacom was on, activated to check his messages- and the one he was currently looking at was the one titled 'fuck off' from anna. He sighed, and banged the back of his helmet up against the wall.
"Kier? Is anything the matter?" The older man asked.
"No sir." He responded. "Nothing's wrong, sir."
"Alright. Please warn me if there is." The older man said, with a kindly, calm voice.
"Yes sir."

>>
>>24380058

>>
>>24380079

it depends on how long He had been a member of blackreach.

if he worked for Dragon he'll sure as hell recognize us, just as Newt did.

we won't know until he asks us.
>>
Also guys, we should downplay our Technopathy skills. Like, scrunch our face in a heavy attempt to get a personacom say "Hi" much. Because it's scary as hell.
>>
>>24380084
Newt recognized the similarity's instantly.

Hound apparently betrayed Anna. While we don't know the nature of the betrayal, it is clear he no longer has any ties to their merc organization.
>>
>>24380093
we gave Newt verification of who we are with the hand shake, before that it was just a you look familiar scenario.
>>
>>24379992
>>24380090
>Don't worry- anything I do something like that with, by my own accord, is just for 'effect', so to speak, and there won't be consequences for that sort of thing.

You rummage through his personacom as best you can, looking through messages - there were ones from Newt, encrypted, and some more from blackreach, and a few from some buddies asking him to go out drinking. Finally, you find the message he'd sent Anna:

Listen, I know that things ended up... not in a good way, between us, but I'd at least like if we tried to talk things out, he'd typed. Just blocking my messages hurts, and I think you're overreacting about things. But really, I'm actually headed up for a job on the Psionic Institute, and Newt told me that's where you're staying. I'd hope that there's some kind of chance we could talk, but... If you don't want to meet me, that's fine.
- Kiernan

You hear another sigh, and Kiernan reached for his humity settings- when his controls glitched for a moment. He just sighed, asked 'again' silently, and closed his eyes. Apparently this was a recurring problem that you'd exacerbated. You continue snooping, and you do find a picture of Anna- her backdrop nothing but space, a few months younger, wearing a slim black dress, cheeks pink. Standing behind her, an arm around her, was Keirnan, giving Anna bunny ears and the camera a charismatic grin.
>>
So what's our animal name? We should ask Anna what she'd pick. (Actually quite partial to Drake, myself.)
>>
>>24380135
>Newt recognized the similarities instantly.
Because Newt knew Dragon. None of the other Blackreach we've met recognised the similarities, because they never knew what Dragon looked like in the first place. We don't know how long Hound was in Blackreach.

You back out of the controls just as Hound excuses himself and starts to remove his helmet, and then you open your eyes and climb to your feet. Summer comes out of the room- which meant that apparently the Summer and Winter in the dorm were manifestations, and she gave you a nod.
"They want you, now." She said.

You entered the room, and sitting along all the sides were actually faces you'd seen on Tridvision and the news- one of the councilors from the UPA, a tall, brilliant white centaur woman, and a true, un-transgened nagala, with simply smooth skin on it's chest, and no face to speak of, other than the four eyes. Its speaker was implanted into its arm, and it nodded to you in greeting, going dimly yellow.
"Don't worry, Heather." Manus said, sitting next to Max. "It won't be a problem. Just try to answer their questions as best you can."
"Heather Leery, correct?" A young woman asked. She was vaguely familiar, but you weren't sure why... You nodded. "Can you, in your best words, explain what exactly psionics is? What sort of things can you do with it? And how do you think it works?"
>>
>>24380427
"That's correct. Well, I suppose Psionics would now be a blanket term for the effect of the mind upon reality. I can utilise telekinesis in a number of ways, telepathy, and technopathy."
>>
>>24380427
"Psionic is someone who, as far as we know, simply ignores reality. I can do lots of things. I don't know how it works."
>>
>>24380427
"I think things, and they happen. Right now, I can lift 10 tons, talk to someone a klick away, and see technology two galaxies that-a-way."
Finish with pointing to the left.

"I've got no clue how they work, but it uses our energy at a rate significantly lower than the standard Calorie would suggest for exponentially more effort than we exert."
>>
>>24380498
we can be vague and leave technopathy right out as it's "just' a subset of telepathy.
>>
>>24380427
"Yes, that is me. A psionic is someone who, as far as we know can ignore rules of reality to a certain degree. I don't know how. I can do many things, myself."
>>
>>24380427
"Psionics is... affecting reality with just your mind. I agree with Max's theory that nothing is impossible to do with psionics, but personally I am good with machines and telekinesis. I don't really have any idea how it works."
>>
>>24380427
"It's... Well I don't know what it is. The actual process is done subconsciously. I can lift something, but I can't understand how it's being lifted or what part of my mind is doing the lifting."
>>
>>24380427
"Psionics are mental powers which, as far as I can tell, allow one to ignore certain rules of reality as we understand it. I have used it for telekinesis, telepathy, precognition and technopathy. I don't know how it works, it just sort of feels natural to me now, like breathing."
>>
>>24380427

we have a wide range of Telekinetic powers as well as very basic manifestation, telepathy and Technopathy
>>
>>24380427
"Psionics can be divided into two subterms, Communication and Manipulation. Communication is for example telepathy it allows you to speak mentaly with another human.
Manipulation is for example telekinesis. It creates a certain newtonic force in direction according to my will."
>>
>>24380427
"Ooh, tall order. I think psionics is a method of casually bending, twisting, and breaking what we traditionally understand as the laws of physics. It's power through perception and will.

The things I can use well are telekinesis, technopathy, and uh, something I've been calling Void. It's these black spheres that just destroy anything they come in contact. I think it might be like a localized black hole or something, because when I used it on a huge block of concrete, I got a crystal of a new element out of it.
To a lesser extent, I can also do telepathy, pyrokinesis, and manifestation. I'm not nearly as good at these as some of my peers are though.

As to how it works? I'm not really sure, but that's mostly what the purpose of this place is, isn't it?
But I suppose I think of it as working like...connecting my mind to places, things, and people."
>>
>>24380534
This, don't mention technopathy by name or even refer to it. Just telepathy.
>>
>>24380636
Yeah, technopathy's scary as hell for people like that.
>>
>>24380665
Gonna have to agree, here.
>>
"That's correct." You say. "I suppose Psionics would now be a blanket term for... the effect of the mind upon reality. I think things, and they happen. I've used it for telekinesis, telepathy, precognition, pyrokinesis, and manifestation. I don't know how it works, it just... sort of feels natural to me now, like breathing."
"Your papers here explain that you've also used Technopathy. what exactly is technopathy?" She asked.
"Just a subset of telepathy." You say.
"That works on technology, I assume." She said. "What is that like? Is it like telepathy, where you talk to a person? Or is it more like you're looking into the ... source code of whatever you're technopathying with?"
>>
>>24380683
"I am talking to a person. Every single machine is a bit different like humans."
>>
>>24380683
It's a lot like talking to a very, very single-minded person.
>>
>>24380683
"It's... more like talking to them, I guess? Though it's hard, much harder than normal telepathy at least."
>>
>>24380683
it's like talking
>>
>>24380683
"At first, I tried directly controlling technology, but that didn't really work well for me. Now I... well, basically, I delude myself by projecting a personality onto machines. Then I just ask for whatever I want."
>>
>>24380683
"As I've understood it, from talking with Jilly, when I connect to a machine, my subconsciousness interprets what they say. So yes, it is like every machine has a mind of its own."
>>
>>24380736
>I delude myself by projecting a personality onto machines.
False, Machine Spirits are real.
And too much information for them.
>>
>>24380683

of course they know we have it.

"It's like talking to a simple mind inside a machine, one very dedicated to its function."
>>
>>24380683

we should make it clear that those machines aren't anything close to an AI.
>>
>>24380683
"It's like talking to a person. A charicature of a person usually, but definitely something with opinions and feelings.

I think the ice cream machine in the cafeteria has a crush on me. It keeps dispensing for me whenever I go up to it, even when I don't ask it to."
>>
"At first, I tried directly controlling technology, but that didn't really work well for me. Now I... well, as I've understood it from talking with Jilly, when I connect to a machine, I basically delude myself into projecting a personality onto machines. Then I talk to them like a very, very single-minded person."
"That's called a... what were you calling it, Max?"
"A conceptual... I think we called a conceptual strut? Holding up various concepts to make certain actions easier."
"Mmm, okay." She said.
"and her concept, we believe, is that what she's speaking to has a mind."

The centaur woman raised a hand, and buzzed. Manus nodded to her.
"Can you understand what I say?" She asked, in centaur. You nod. "How does precognition work? Is it like... being able to sense something you otherwise couldn't, or is it something you... know without realizing it, or a mix of both?" Then she stuck her mandibles in her mouth and you heard her chuckle. "Or am I completely off here?"
One of the aides started typing, sending everyone else translations of what the centaur was asking.
>>
>>24380838

not entirely true, we do ask it and it gladly gives us more than it should.
>>
>>24380869
"I... don't know, really. You'd have to ask Damien about that. Only time I had a precog... I... Don't like to talk about it." shiver
>>
>>24380869
"Well, I've only ever done it once, and that one time was a dream. And because of that I took different actions when I woke up and completely altered the future. From what I understand, the timeline is...flexible. It can be changed if you're aware of what's "supposed" to happen.
>>
>>24380869
"I can, quite clearly. Well, precognition isn't my specialty, and for me, it happens in my dreams. It's like living your life, but then you wake up to find everything back to normal."
>>
Just reminding you guys, but these guys aren't necessarily all Lawful Good.
>>
>>24380869
"You ever have a dream that you thought was real and then you woke up? It's like that"
>>
>>24380945
They also probably have the details of our dream, since they no doubt wanted the justification for armed marines on the station.
Which is probably why they're asking us instead of Damien.
>>
"I can, quite clearly. Well, precognition isn't my specialty, and for me, it happens in my dreams. It's like living your life, but then you wake up to find everything back to normal."
"And is clairvoyance similar?" She asked. "If not, then I'll simply copy my question for Clairvoyance. If that's... alright, Doctors?" The centaur asked. Manus looked down to his screen to read the translation. Max nodded.
"Then how does Clairvoyance work?" The centaur woman asked. "Is it being able to sense something you normally can't, or is it something subconscious, or something entirely different?"
>>
The only time I can recall it was like I was living that future, and when I woke up I was in the past. However there were apparently a few times when I was younger I prevented accidents from happening to friends and family. I'm not sure what form it took then
>>
>>24381020
"it's... If it's subconscious it's just a vague sense that something is happening, and if it's used actively it's like having a whole new set of eyes and ears wherever I put them."

"It's... if it's subconscious, it's just a vague sense that something is happening." You say. "It's like having an instinct for something, and turning out to be right about it more often than not."
"And from what little we know about it, it's hard for a psion to realize when they're using clairvoyance. They usually don't notice."
"If it's used actively it's like having a whole new set of eyes and ears wherever I put them," You say. "I can see and hear and move around, and sometimes use my powers as if I was there, but I'm not actually there."
"Well, that's all we really have for you." The pretty woman said, looking down to her personacom for a moment. Then suddenly, the nagala stood on its tail, slithering closer to you. It was pure white, and almost felt... emotionless, as it slithered around the table in a quick movement, and gently touched your shoulder. You felt it zap your shoulder for a moment.
<You can understand me, correct? If I recall.> Your mind translated its voice. <You were the one that located a strange alien species outside of the milkyway, correct?> It asked. <Not long ago, in fact.>

yup, that's a function of telepathy. yes I was the one that found those Aliens.

<Yes.> you say. <Should this be a private conversation, or should I answer out loud?>
<It's up to you.> It responded. <I just figured I should tell you that we've geared up a tug with S-doubleplus class drives, and it's going to go out there in the next few days. We sent out a probe, and Max told me personally to inform you how things were going. They're going fine, and we've figured out rudimentary parts of their language. They talk using light! <Glad to hear it!> The nagala said, and flashed yellow, patting you on the head. <I'll come get you personally when it comes time, alright? It was a pleasure to speak to you, Heather.>
Then he slithered back behind his table, and sat on his dais again.
"I, uh, anyways." The familiar said. "That should be it for now. Are you okay with us naming you on our papers, or would you prefer to be kept anonymous?" She asked, with a stylus and a tablet. That's when you realized where you recognized her from- she was a reporter.

"Oh, it's not at all." She responded, marking something down. "Perfectly reasonable.
The human man stood, and he shook your hand. "Thank you for coming to meet with us, and answering our questions."
You gave him a nod and nervous smile, and the pretty woman continued. "Anyway, that should be it, unless you have any more information you want to offer. And if not, we're just looking to meet Sarvesh next, so if you could go get him?"
>>
>>24381343
"Oh, um this is after this weekend right? I promised my friend that I'd visit the centaur homeworld."

Summer was sitting down next to Jilly, and Damien was there, leaning up against the wall. His eyes were closed, and he looked like he was napping, standing upright like that.
"How was it?" Summer asked, lying there. "I was like, really nervous. All of those people are councilors!"
>>

"And one of them was a journalist, which means the cat is probably gonna be out of the bag soon. Wonder how the general public will react now that they are people with ... Not Magic running around."
"Well, I told them to keep me anonymous." Summer said. "And so they won't take any pictures or anything of me, so as long as our identities are safe, we'll be safe!"

Which basically means we can mess with the world using only our minds! It's not really understood, but apparently there's going to be a news article about us or something, so I figured it must be okay to tell you about it.>
>>
>>24382022
ENGLISH, DO YOU SPEAK IT?
>>
start writing that email then while these interviews go on.

Something like:

Hey Ellie.

You know that school we are all going to? Its actually an institute that is researching these strange powers we all have. We've been calling them Psionics because we use our minds to effect reality. I think you noticed something was up with Summer last time. The reason we didn't tell you the truth then was because we weren't sure on how hush-hush the project was. But now its going public. Literally. Theres a news article going out pretty soon. Sorry for not telling you earlier!
>>
"Guess you only lose it when you get physical."
"Or it's getting easier for me to change things." He said. "Before, I couldn't change things at all. Guess I'm getting better at it."

You pull on your sunglasses, and call Ellie. She didn't answer for the longest time, and when she did, you could just see her laying in bed in a bra, looking into her own hairclip personacom.
"... Heather, it's godawful early here." She grumbled, and rubbed at her eyes. "It's like... seven in the morning. On a saturday. That's like four in the morning on weekdays!"
>>
>>24381960
Send the following:

"Hey, this is going to sound crazy, but don't delete this message. You're gonna read an article soon which will explain a lot of the wierd stuff you noticed when I bought that group of friends down to Heaven's Jewel.

I wanted to apologise for keeping it a secret. Please don't be mad."

>>24382071

"oh, um, oops. I didn't account for the time difference..."

"there was something i wanted to tell you, something about my new school it's... kind of a big deal."
>>
>>24382071
"Yeah, sorry, timezone difference. It's sorta important though.

Did you happen to notice anything strange when I bought my friends down to Heaven's Jewel? Anything at all. Things moving on their own, things appearing out of nowhere, that sort of stuff."
>>
>>24382071
"I know! At least you didn't wake up to UPA councillors wanting to interrogate you."
"Listen, I didn't tell you before because it was meant to be all secret, but now they're putting it in the news so I guess it's okay. My new school, is actually a school... for psychics!"
>>
>>24382071
"I know, and I'm sorry. But this was pretty important - like galactic headlines important.
You're really, REALLY not gonna believe it until the article hits, but I want you to hear it from me first, okay? Me and my peers from the institute? We're all psychic. It was super classified until now. I can talk to machines, and Summer can manifest things from thin air, that's how she found that raft. And then Damien can see the future and the past, Sarvesh can teleport, Anna can set things on fire, and Jilly can read minds, and Alex is immune to everything the rest of us can do."
>>
"Oh, um, oops. I didn't account for the time difference." You say.
"It's Kay." She said, and sat up herself, pulling her blanket over herself and looking into the com. "What is it?"
"There was something I wanted to tell you, something about my new school. It's... kind of a big deal."
"Big deal how?" She asked.
"We're all psychic." You say.
"Buh?"
"It was super classified until now. I can talk to machines, and Summer can make things from thin air, and then Damien can see the future, and Sarvesh can teleport, and Jilly can read minds-"
"... It's way too early for this, Heather." Ellie said, and giggled. "So you're all psychic with superhuman abilities. Yeaaah, like that's not the plot of a thousand fiction books across the galaxy."
>>
>>24382176

"Me? Watch the news?" She asked, and sighed. "Yeah, okay, I'll keep an eye out for it. Love you, Heather! And now I sleep."

"Interesting how?"
"Simply the questions they asked." Sarvesh said.
"How did it go?"
"It went fine." He said. "I don't have any particularly strange abilities other than the teleportation, and that is quite straightforward, so they didn't ask much."
"Wait, guys, you guys have got to see this." You say, and have Einstein project the camera in the interview room against the wall.
"Yes, my precog is free. I can see it from any perspective in the area, and reliably up to five to ten seconds in the future easily." Damien was saying. "No, they aren't certain. People change their minds and the future changes. No, changing things isn't as easy for me as it is for most- it takes a lot of deliberate movement. Yes, I can use other psionic powers, but I'm not as good at most like Sarvesh or Heather is due to my extreme specialization. No, I don't have any suggestions I'd like. And I don't particularly care if i'm anonymous or not, thank you."
He nodded, and stepped back out.
"They didn't even get a word in." He said, and chuckled. "Now they would ask for Anna round now, but Max is telling them that she's staying out of the station right now. So it seems they're done with the interviews."

"Of course not!" You say. "Summer makes an amazing pillow, though."
"Oh, of course!" He said, and pulled the real summer into a hug.
Summer giggled, and you noticed- he was essentially ... ignoring Winter. He chuckled.
<Does he know about Winter?>
<N- no, he doesn't.> Summer said. <He doesn't know she's.. not really there.>

<Why's he being so cold to her, then?> You ask.
<Oh, he's always been like that to her.> Summer said.
<You told me it was the other way around, I'm confused.> You say, and scratch Summer's ears. <Are you sure he hasn't worked it out?>
<I'm... positive.> Summer said- and her mind was confused. Disjointed for a moment. You scratch her ears some more, and turn to Laurent.
"It was lovely meeting you, but I'm tempted to go assemble some more of my ship."
"Oh, you have a ship?" He asked. "What are the specs?" He leaned forward, interested. You told him the Bubble drive class, and then your engine output, your expected ion thrust, and the size.
"Wow. What model is that? I've never heard of a model with that much thrust and C-plus speed." He said. "Or did you design it yourself?"
>>
>>24383383

>>
>>24383383
"I've had a lot of help, but yeah. It's completely custom. Summer in particular was a big help, she can make like a little pocket dimension where she can manifest anything she can think of without it draining her. We used that as a sort of testing area."
>>
"Designed it myself, with some help from an expert on the subject, acquired the parts through some contacts I found, and friends of friends. We're putting it together now." You say.
"Well, from those specs, I'd say I'm impressed already." He said. "Do you mind if I watched you put it all together? Because if it functions, well, I might have a job waiting in the wings for you. Complete with the money to go through technical school, if you want it."

"Oh, of course." He said. "I just figured I should ask first, so that I have an advantage over all of the other people who'll want to hire you."
You, Summer and Winter, Laurent, and Sarvesh all found their way in the mechanics bay. Hound followed behind, not saying anything as he locked down the hangar doors, preventing them from being opened remotely. Laurent ignored him.
"Wow, this is pretty impressive." Laurent said. "I can't wait to see it fly."
"I'm almost done with it, too." You say.
"Hello, I'm Sarvesh." Sarvesh said, as Summer leapt up onto his back. Sarvesh seemed stronger and bigger now that he'd moulted, surprisingly.
"Laurence Grayson. But you can call me Laurent." He said, and held out a fist. Sarvesh did the same- it seemed almost ritualistic. Like... a centaur handshake?
"Well, Laurent, we still need to add on the ion thrust and finish up the hull. We're still a little bit from completion. Omni, can you give me a little help here?"
Omnissiah and the drones lifted up one of the plates, and Sarvesh started welding it into place.

You focus, and will the hull plates onto the plating, as the drones weld them on. Summer manifested a generic workcrew as well, and the group got to work.

"So." Laurence said, once Summer was distracted. "She still has her... sister?" He asked, in a low voice. He sighed. "I'm worried about her."

"When she first said she had a human sister, her mother and I were rather confused. Then we were *really* confused when she just... appeared from thin air, when she was still a kitten."

"Summer is only Manifesting Winter because you're here, she doesn't think you know. I'm not sure if she knows that Winter was her own creation.

Did you ever talk to her about this?"
>>
>>24384048
oh...
oh dear, oh dear

Explain to him 'Winter' apparently died in a car crash. Summer apparently remanifested her but thought she was dead. She thought she was real all this time.

I don't know how shes going to take it.
>>
>>24384112
She's lived her whole life thinking she had a sister that died.
>>
>>24384048
"Maybe you should talk to her. She thinks Winter had an accident and she has to do a manifestation so you'd be unhurt."
>>
"... I'm kind of at a loss for words. She's thought winter was real all along. She grew up with her. You should really talk to her about this."
"It's... " He shook his head. "What do you do when your daughter has an imaginary friend that she... psioned into existence? I can't tell her, because I don't know what that would do to her. If she ever realized that Winter wasn't real... I worry about her."
>>
>>24384048
"She told me that the real Winter died in a car accident, so she manifested the fake one for your sake. A fake Winter died in a car crash, so she manifested another fake Winter?

Either way, the Winter you're seeing now is being manifested conciously. She doesn't stick around if Summer doesn't want her too, anymore."
>>
>>24384150
She thinks Winter died. There was a car accident, and everything changed, Winter was no longer autonomous and Summer lost 'her' but kept manifesting the body on remote control. It took her a lot of training to be able to get autonomous ones.
>>
>>24384150
"She knows she isn't real. Just... trust me, you two need to talk to each other."
>>
>>24384150
"She thinks Winter died in a car accident. She knows the current one isn't real but she's convinced that she's fooling you with it."
>>
>>24384150
"Well, she knows she isn't real now, this Manifestation is one that is consciously maintained and she can Demanifest it anytime she wants, it's for your sake.

She thinks that Winter died in a car crash a long time ago, then she made a fake one she couldn't get rid of, but she knew it was fake, and when she came here she was able to Demanifest it.

Have a talk with Summer about this, both of you hiding this from each other is unhealthy."
>>
we could always ask Damien what would happen if we convinced Summer Winter was never real.
>>
>>24384196
No she doesn't.
She thinks real Winter died.
>>
>>24384150
"Well... In a way, she was real. Summer's manifestations generally have minds of their own although it can be draining in her to maintain very advanced ones. Still, I don't know what to do either."
>>
>>24384150
Well this is a dilemma. The easy route is just telling her that her parents know current Winter isn't real, so she can stop with the charades around them and maybe let go. This should hopefully help her, but it also means not being honest, and potential awkwardness when she's with her parents. On the other hand, telling her the truth could have far worse consequences.
>>
>>24384213
I didn't want to give too much away because those two need to work it out amongst themselves. Hence I left out that she thought the original Winter was real.
>>
>>24384230
>Yeah I'm sorry I kept a copy of her around after...
>It's okay, I'm glad you've come to terms with her not being real
>Wait what the fuck?
>>
>>24384211
Yeah, it's nice to have somebody to test these things on. We should check with Damien to see if telling Summer that Winter never existed is a good idea or not.
>>
>>24384150
well she thinks she "was" real and died now she need to keep up the manifestation because you dont know she died
>>
"... She thinks Winter died." You say. "She told me the real winter died in a car accident, so she manifested the fake one for your sake. A fake winter died in a car crash... so she manifested another fake winter?"
"I.. uh.. What?"
"Just... trust me." You say. "You two need to talk to eachother."
"I... okay." He responded. You felt something... strange, behind you. Around you. Backwards. It was a powerful, powerful feeling... but familiar.

>>
>>24384306

>>
>>24384306

>>
>>24384306
Well, shit. Better turn around.
>>
>>24384306
"Who's there?"
>>
>>24384306
"...Sorry."
>>
You turn around- and there was nothing there. You focus, and think about it... It wasn't behind you in space, it was behind you in... in..

In time.

Your vision blurred.

>"Nope!" Summer said, hugging you. "I like you too much for me to be imaginary. And I know what being an imaginary things is like, and I'm not it. so you're wrong. And stupid." Then she bumped her head into you, and giggled.
>"That's exactly what a hallucination would say, Summer."
>She stared into your eyes. "I'm real, heather." She said. "I'm sure of it. But I need to prove to you that *you're* real too. That none of this is a hallucination."
>Somewhat meekly, she looked away. "I just need to figure out how, first." She said, quietly.

And then you opened your eyes. You'd... seen into your own memory. In perfect fidelity. Like... like you had a photographic memory or something.

You focused... and lifted up all of the bolts and nuts, screwing them all into the frame, fastening components, and slipping underneath the hull to screw in the smaller parts that Omnissiah's drones would normally have done.
"There." You say. "Easy!"

"... Huh." Sarvesh said. "My brother would find you useful as hell."

More time passed, as you, Summer, Sarvesh, and Omnissiah worked to fasten the ion thrusters on the sides, connect them, your TK easily utilized to connect the small, finicky bits... and then, finally, Omnissiah and the drones turned on their projectors, optically scanning the ship for any noticable damage, and the ship computer depressurized the ship, testing to make sure it was airtight.

"Ship looks intact." Omnissiah said.
<Everything is airtight.> The ship computer said.
You tilted your head, and appraised it.

It was... Your ship... Your very own, unnamed, perfected ship, with an S-class bubble drive, enough room for every student on the station, and a power supply big enough to power a large facility...

If someone hasn't made the joke yet I'll go ahead and make it.
>She's One of Ours, Sir!
Incidentally Exabutt, how many ships have been named that by this point? If it's not hundreds I'll be disappointed.

I voted.

gryphon

Any way you can make the 'Other' responses viewable? I can see it's got 6 votes.
>>
>>24385347
>gryphon
that's not bad sort of fits seeing as Anna has the wyvern
>>
>>24385066
Seconded
>>
>>24385055
The engine's called Helios, right, so why not Heliades?
>>
I voted for the Batmobile.
Because fuck you, that's why. Batmobile.
>>
It's too bad you can't see the "other" responses.
>>
>>24385459
It seems as though Other has received 42 votes.

I think something's afoot.
>>
>>24385532
We will name our ship Other then.
>>
>>24385532
I know I voted twice, but only because I wanted to see the results and messed up the first time. My second vote was "ignorethisvoteplz"
>>
>>24385562
Does anybody know what is the most popular "Other" name though?
>>
>>24385598
it's the gryphon
>>
>>24385055
I'm already excited for the next thread now. The suspense is killing me.

Looks like Arcturus is winning.
Does anybody have any problems with Arcturus?
>>
>>24386082
I do
>>
>>24386082
Nope. We can always change it later if we come up with something better as well.
>>
>>24386082
It's boring and potentially confusing
>>
>>24386082
I'd rather have literally any other name
>>
>>24386103
>>24386097
>>24386089
Well, as the survey doesn't really work, what else do you guys want? Feel free to throw in tiered preferences if you want.
>>
>>24386082
I suggest naming ti Gryphon
>>
>>24386125
1. Surya
2. Arche
3. Arcturus
>>
>>24386125
I suggest you take all the names then roll some dice to pick
>>
>>24386125
unsure, just not Arcturus
>>
>>24386125
Dragon's bounty was ok, if a little telling.
Gryphon although generic is a good one
even Errant Venture is better than Arcturus
>>
>>24386125
we're going to have Omni drive it right? if so I vote Void Dragon.
>>
>>24386125
Sered? Ariosti? Dargomizhsky?
>>
>>24386204
Omni went a bit crazy when we plugged him in. Plus, we want to drive it ourselves.
>>
>>24386220
nothing wrong with letting power go to your head the first time so long as you pull it back in, with he did.
>>
Since consensus doesn't really seem to be forming, I'm thinking I'll just name it my own preference from what you've all been suggesting- Surya. Does anyone have problems with this?
>>
>>24386266
that's fine. I'd like a new name, no references
>>
>>24386266
>Surya
>"the Supreme Light"
works for me
>>
>>24386266
Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It's kinda fruity.
>>
>>24386597
Well, it is the hindu god of the sun, similar to how Helios was the greek god of the sun.
