Alright anon, really sorry about Friday. Some shit came up in the shop that I had to go deal with. I know I promised you that I'd run yesterday, but, well, sitting in a guard house for twenty hours really takes it out of you.

So, this is just a continuation of THAT thread. I will run to where that thread was planned on ending, unless ya'll give me reason to run longer, haha.

This is the thread SO FAR: http://pastebin.com/CmjAKzp9

>[] “...well, let's see the fucker shoot.”

You cock an eyebrow at the doctor.

“Well doc, I won't lie, you have my interest. I'd like to see the gun fire, however.”

“Ah, yes. Of course!” He replies, waving about at the test crew. Two of them, the commander and gunner you assume, immediately peel the lashing straps back, revealing the tank's weapon system. The barrel, a pair of steel rails with a series of bands lashed around them and a muzzle brake damn near a third of the size of the whole shebang, adds only deadliness to the tank's silhouette. They throw their helmets on, tighten up their kevlar vests, and jump into the vehicle. All told, to mount it, it takes the whole crew maybe forty five seconds to have the vehicle fully buttoned up and running.

The engine mimic's booze hound's thundering roar, though it's not quite as uncontained. You're certain it's still a turbine design from the sound of it, although reading through the binder later will confirm it.

The vehicle speeds off to a designated range, before Doctor Light hands you a pair of binoculars. “They're firing at a target three kilometers away, captain. Standard engagement range for it's weapon. The target, of course, is a standard armor target. Quarter inch plywood on a static platform.”

Scanning across the horizon, you quickly discern the target. Nodding at the doctor when he asks if you have it, he mutters something into a radio handset, and before you know it, the target is obliterated. Not how an Abrams vehicle would kill the target, a simple shell sized penetration, no. This weapon struck the target about midway through, and cut it right-the-hell-in-half. The top half of the target sailed into the distance, and the second was completely blown apart by the force behind the shell...or round...or whatever the hell that thing shoots.

>[] “Huh. Neat.”

You lower your binoculars.

“Huh. Neat. Sure took care of that menacing quarter inch, huh doc? Any chance this thing can do that under non-ideal circumstances?” You ask, not wanting to sound too excited.

“Absolutely! Though, we can't quite do it here, now. We don't really have the time. I do, however, have the test tapes that I can lend you, and the hardcopy of the data.”

That'll have to do, you suppose. “I'd like those, doc. Any other rascally secrets you all have for me?”

Light shakes his head. “Not that I haven't already told you about...other than the networked combat system.”

You cock an eyebrow. “Yeah, I’ve been hearing that term for a while now. Any chance you wanna let me know what the hell it means?”

“Of course, of course! As at this point, I'm sure you know, at least loosely, what it does...but if you don't, the simplest way to explain it is to say that you now have God's own eyeballs. Anything anyone with a NCS can see, you can see. If your company is split in half, or your recon element can see a target that you can't, the data is instantly transferred to your NCS via radio waves. The target information is pulled up on your helmet's display. Now, this has been in the works for a while, Captain, with multi-branch support. I suppose when the Lancer-G comes into play, the Achilles and it shall make quite the team...especially if that one aircraft is put into production.

“Of course, this is all a bit much for just one day. And I'm more than willing to bet that you're looking forward to your leave. Plus, the Achilles has a bit of work yet to be done on it, tuning the engine and pulling a support element up to speed on how to fix it when you break it.” He grins.

[] “And the um...Myrmidon, you called it?”

Most unfair unit in the entire game.
Five of those and anything but a bunch of heavy tanks won't save you.
>Defensive buildings?
Forget it!
>Infantry?
Forget it!
>Light vehicles?
Forget it!

Just the way their shots scattered into everything around a unit meant death to formations and bases.
And then one of the fuckers gets promoted.

>>24386052
>>24386059
That's not the final design.
They rolled it into a sawed-off prism tank.
Because ambushes make a lot of sense with a weapon that primarily destroys buildings.

>[] “And the um...Myrmidon, you called it?”

You motion to the other armored vehicle.

“And the Myrmidon?”

Light waves his arms about, and the canvas is pulled away from the other two vehicles.

You sigh.

They're Bradley IFV's. Only...not.
The turret has suffered the same radical redesign as the Achilles did, though the body is still the same shoebox shape.
Covered in proto-plating, utilizing the same camera system as the Achilles.
With a shorter version of the gun that the Achilles is carrying.

“And uh, I'm to guess that my infantry dismounts are to fight out of these?”

The doctor beams and nods furiously.

“And my Abrams crewmen are to be retrained on it?”

“Well, one of them. The other can make the transfer over to the XM2A1. Unless you plan on being in the Myrmidon, which I'm willing to bet that a storied running back like you isn't.”

You shake your head. “Guess you've got me down better than I thought, doc. You should bring Anderson up to speed on these though. Although, I do have to ask. I'm missing a tank and it's crew, though I can count four here. Am I supposed to be getting replacements anytime soon?”

“Oh! Of course! In fact -” he checks his watch - “they should be arriving any time!”

Almost on cue, a Humvee crawls up to the company. Out pile four men, each in freshly laundered BDU's. Their patrol caps look almost foreign to you, being used to seeing the green beret of your 1 ARSOF troopers. Doctor Light peels a sheet of paper off his clipboard and hands it to you.

“Your new troopers, Captain. Three privates and a Sargent. Their witch is still on her way from the academy, though they did a lot of their advanced armor training together. They'll work well, of this I am assured.”

You look down at the paper.

“Sargent...Brata...bra...-” You stutter.

“Just say smit, sir. It don't mattah. None of dis mattahs.” He replies, waving away the notion. His heavy accent says he's from-

“You from Jersey, Sargent?”

“Yessir. Exit fifteen E offa dah turnpike. We all are.” he motions to the rest of his crew.

One of the privates standing next to him, mentions that they're not all Jersey natives. “Well sir, we three moved there before the war kicked off. We heard about the polish border skirmishes and all signed up immediately. Car- I mean Sargent uh...Smith here, had a bunch of work experience and signed up. Mattie, our witch, has been in the Armor academy for a while.”

“Uh-huh.” You look down at the paper, reading the tiny profiles on them. “And what'd you DO before you joined up, Private Locke?”

“Uh, I was a fry cook, sir.”

Beside the private, Sargent 'Smit' shakes his head and pinches the bridge of his nose.

“You are pissin' me off so much right now, fryman.”
