Millicent spent the rest of the year enjoying the company of her friends and working hard in lessons. Dreams for the first years to join the Quidditch team would have to wait for the second year at the very least. By working hard and looking after her sister, Millie’s reputation as someone to avoid dissipated to the point that most students barely remember the incident.

It wasn’t easy for Millicent’s mother and father to accept the news of what Maud had done and what subsequently happened to her. However no blame was left on her, and her sister, after examination, was diagnosed with magic induced amnesia.

Maud’s integration into her old life has been a difficult one for her, as she has no time for her old friends who are cruel and spiteful. Instead she spends time hanging around, almost to the point of annoyance, with Millicent and her friends during breaks. Her grades however have improved noticeably, which has been put down to her spending less time chasing after boys and concentrating on her work.

We begin the second year in a state of Deja Vu, with just two weeks before the end of summer break and the start of the new school term at Hogwarts, you and your family have booked two rooms in the Leaky Cauldron after a visit to Diagon Alley.

You sit with your sister in a room your share together. You’ve just tried on your new school clothes in front of the mirror, seeing they fit your taller build nicely.

“You should buy Terra a new basket for your dorm” says Maud

“Tara” you say, correcting her, finding that Maud can remember the most complicated spells, being in her fifth year and top of the class, yet is unable to remember personal details so easily.

You sit and give her a hug as she apologises for being so forgetful.

“Millicent!” your mother calls from down the hallway.

You stand and leave the room, closing the door behind you, when a sudden sense of Deja Vu hits you. Damn.

You head downstairs where Mum and Dad wait for at a table, a cup of butterbeer set on the table.

You’re waiting for Olivia and her parents to pick you up to stay round theirs for the rest of the holidays, something which wasn’t easy talking your parents into.

“How are you feeling, Millicent?” asks your mother who peers over her book titled ‘A Brief History of Time’.

>Okay
>Has Olivia arrived yet? How about Nigel and Joel?
>I wanted to talk to you about what happened last year, if that’s alright with you, I know I’ve asked about it a lot but I just want to make sure I understand everything that went down.

For recovering the Trident of Salazar Slytherin? Sure, until it comes out just what kind of dick-ass memory-raping cunt he was comes out.
>>
> Millie’s reputation as someone to avoid dissipated to the point that most students barely remember the incident

for arguments sake, lets say someone in your school somehow destroyed a section of it(lets say [spoilers]WATER[/spoilers] damage, was the only witness to a teacher dying, found a long lost trophy from when the school was founded while it was rumored their family disowned them, your teachers tells you VERY SPECIFICALLY not to talk to them, and suddenly, inexplicably, her sister can't remember anything.

Like, there's no way Millie isn't going to stop being a subject of conversationuntil something even MORE sensational comes along, she's been the topic of conversation all year.

Rolled 14

You ask your mother about the events which took place at Hogwarts last year, a time that you remember both fondly and with a heavy heart.

“Oh, Millicent” your mother says in a drawling condescending voice as she flicks through another page of her book.

“You know that we had no idea you were in the hospital wing, your sister made sure of that. She isn’t the real one to blame in all this is she? It’s that rotten house elf of ours”

In actual fact you’ve actually gotten on rather well with your house elf since returning from Hogwarts. You even mentioned to your parents once about giving him his freedom, however they dismissed without any room for argument.

Your time at Hogwarts has given you a new appreciation and perspective on your parents. Yes, they are wealthy, aristocratic pureblood elitists, but it is not like they intend to be. Rarely do they go out of their way to make another’s day worse; they are just one of the many who follow the few with the soul intention of living stress free lives. They’ve ingrained themselves into the status quo of things. It’s sort of maddening.

“So what are you going to do while I’m gone?” you ask.

Your father chimes in this time as he brings drinks back from the bar; two firewhisky’s for them, two butterbeers for you and Maud. Speaking of Maud she comes down from the second floor and sits beside you.

“Well” says your father “We’re going to Romania with the cousins to go Dragon Touring, all nice and safe of course, if you don’t mind your hair a little toasty”

The relationship you had with your dad has changed since you returned from Hogwarts with your sister. He seems to favour Maud more than you now, but then, you were already past the point of caring back in the first year so you don’t feel any worse for it.

The backdoor Muggle entrance to the Leaky Cauldron creaks open, pouring light into the dark little space. Olivia comes into view with her parents holding a hand each, you watch them scan the room looking for you and your family.

You stand from your chair and can barely contain yourself as you call them over. Olivia spots you and her face lights up letting you know the feeling is more than mutual. She scampers over and gives you a loving bear hug.

“Hi, Millie” she says, pulling back and appraising you. “You look great”

She turns to your family.

“Hey, Maud”
“Olivia”
“Hey, Maud and Millie’s parents”

Your mother puts down her book with an expression that makes look like she’s been stupefied. She holds out a limp hand which Olivia shakes with enthusiasm. Your father, takes a sip of his firewhiskey then gives a silent nod of ‘hello’ before also shaking her hand as if being muggleborn was an infectious disease.

Olivia’s parents look like two of the nicest people you’ve ever seen; her mother, wearing typical muggle clothing, is a beautiful woman with a thin frame, her hair tied into a bun, looking like the type of mothers on food tins. The farther has a bit of a balding issue, his forehead filled with creases and his nose absurdly long and crooked.

“Nice to meet you both” says Mr. Borchard “Olivia’s told us wonderful things about your daughters”

“How was your summer?” you ask, noticing your parents haven’t offered for the Borchard’s to sit.

“It was alright” says Olivia, shrugging “Nothing like Hogwarts”

Mr. Borchard chimes in “’Nothing like Hogwarts’, that’s like her new catchphrase!”

“Dad...”
“Oh, come on honey, we all know how excited you’ve been” says Mrs. Borchard “Millie this, Joel that, ‘yeah it’s nice Mum but it it’s not Hogwarts’”

Her parents seem to be a little overbearing to say the least. They do however notice that they have outstayed their welcome with your parents who watch them like the enigma’s they are.

“Well, best be off to Deagon’s Alley”
“Diagon Alley, Dad”
“Oh, sorry my love, Diagon’s Alley”
“Be seeing you” says your mother, grabbing her book and opening a page.

Apparently it was really REALLY bad. Literally whenever the dice seemed to NOT take the player's side it somehow without fail always ended up doing so. The gm couldn't figure out how to put up a challenge so the player base began to dry up. Pity top it was a completely original setting and had promise. Basically it was something like Game of Thrones but in SPESS. At least that was what our faction seemed like. We never managed to get into the politics. Instead we were raping/recruiting the local pirates and even unleashed a genocidal AI for a 'distraction'.

You take the time to hug Maud, knowing a part of her doesn’t want to be left alone with Mum and Dad, and then give your parents a kiss on the cheek each with little goodbyes for luck.

“Be seeing you” says your father, turning his attention to Maud before you and the Borchard’s have even left the vicinity.

You leave out the back end to a stone wall which leads to Diagon Alley, a hunched backed man hands you Tara in her steel cage and your suitcase. He takes out his wand and taps the wall for you, which causes the bricks to separate, revealing Diagon Alley.

(Don’t worry about Elise, she’s in the suitcase at the moment.)

“Where should we go first?” asks Mr. Borchard
“Where should we go first, girls?” says Mrs. Borchard right after.

Olivia looks to you with a beaming smile.

I think they made for a good storytelling foundation to work from for me. But anything that I do now will be off of what happened in the first year as well as new cool stuff.

So basically they're not relevant anymore because the character has evolved enough not to need it.

But will we still get the bonuses and penalties of Antisocial?
Just because Millicent is no longer actively misanthropic of people around her, doesn't mean she's going to let just anyone be her friend.
Especially after all of the trust issues she had during Year 1.

I sometimes run into this problem with RPG characters. The character still has these mechanical traits, but the character arc no longer reflects how the PC thinks about their world.

“How has your holiday been, Millie?” asks Olivia as you walk. Now in the late morning light you can see her baby fat she had last year has sunk away, she’s just a bit shorter than you, but has grown into a very pretty girl.

That is what happened everyone wanted to recruit pirates for shadowy support/connections(worked great too). As for the AI we unleashed it in order to get away with our less then legal goods(it took over). Supposedly the plan was to build up support before going into politics because we were broke. The only thing we had going for us was one of the Great Houses owed us big time thus how we became nobility in the first place.

Oh, right. It's 'mudblood' that's offensive. Muggle is a simple statement of fact, differentiating between magical and non-magical.

"I guess it will help me gain a muggle perspective on things"

After a little more chit chat you find Flourish and Blots without too much trouble, it's pretty empty inside as you wander around. Olivia's parents make a bee line to the 'Muggle Parenting' section and you take Olivia by the hand and go upstairs to the Tales for YWoW section.

You take the books on Divination and Flying, the Squib History stuff can probably be found in the school library.

You walk with Olivia, who's found a book on creating safe amateur spells, and head over to the store counter. You pay for your books and meet up with Olivia's parents who take a couple minutes figuring out the correct amount to pay with the money they have.

You notice a moving picture behind the clerk of a wizard in his fifties smiling at you, light bulbs flashing behind the yellowed image of him.

"These books sure aren't cheap on the exchange" says Mr. Borchard
"Sure aren't cheap" says his wife.

Ron got his broom from his parents when he became a prefect and became keeper.
Checking back in book 1... after talking Wood out of class McGonagall talked with them about about Harry joining the team. Wood just sort of mentions that he'll need a broom suggesting a Nimbus or Cleansweep. McGonagall says she'll need Dumbledore's permission to let Harry play in his first year. Then the nimbus just arrives in the mail on Halloween... Nothing about McGonagall or Dumbledore buying it for him just for Gryffindor's sake. One could assume it was standard procedure to provide sports brooms to players.

Harry's Firebolt came from Sirius as a gift

It seems like when it comes to morality, Millicent tends to defer to whatever Olivia thinks is the right thing to do.

Also it could be interesting to see how Olivia's parents respond to learning that the wizarding world essentially still has slavery.

yeah, because "good" and "evil" are things, and "evil" means no character growth, hurr durr burn everything.

Idk why it's so hard for you folks to embrace our heritage, OP is competent enough to roll with a grey character "raised a certain way", i think it's a waste to not explore that aspect of the wizarding world.

A daughter to a pureblood family who are comfortable being rich and don't kick up a fuss otherwise. You had no friends before hogwarts and was content with your doll Fur Elise. You had a house elf slave but thought nothing of it because that's the way you thought things were, not because of anything malicious. You had no opinion on mudbloods because no one had talked to you about that sort of thing. You also have a fear of water before of an incident in cambodia.

That's sort of who you were.
>>
>>24394230
It seems like our parents somehow managed to be emotionally distant, even when they favored us.
Like you can just look at how Millicent's and Maud's personalities turned out to see that, even though the Fauxley parents are surprisingly well-meaning, they're not exactly good at the whole being parents thing.
>>

Good point. I think Millie has her father's aloofness, that calculating part of her. As for mannerisms I'm not sure, I'll work on that.
>>
>>24394384

this is all true, but you also gotta remember that we went on for a year believing that they hated us.

From what transpired, from our parent we picked up "we are better because pureblood". During first year they told us we weren't part of the family anymore, and we had to find someone else to emotionally attach to (namely maud + olivia).

Maud's trickery could have wiped out most of our belief in a single stroke.

Am i a mudblood now?
>>
>>24394384
>i think it fitting, in a word, to be a bit snobby. Finer tastes, very clean, things like that.

I always imagine Millicent would have been largely raised by a nanny. Also, in my mind she does have to call her father "Sir" when addressing him.
>>
>>24394433

I thought it would get a better reaction that it did, only thing is Millie and the Questers are one in the same, they no longer cared because she didn't.
>>
>>24394453
Sure there was some relief, but part of the problem is that we saw things that repeatedly showed their worldview as faulty, plus on some level a bit of reflection on just how fucked up Maud and to a lesser degree Millicent turned out.

A big part of it is that when we received the forged note of being disowned, we passed our dealing with it challenge.
>>
>>24394384
Alright, that makes sense. I guess I just saw a bit of detachment between your choices and your motives like with the pamphlet, but I guess it was more smelly hippies than equal rights that was the problem.

>>24394453
I felt the way Millie did, detached. She shrugged off the fake disownment so she was pretty much prepared for whatever. Now, though, despite not being her dad's favorite, Millie's parents remain unchanged but Millie herself went through a lot of changes and doesn't see her parents in the same light anymore.

That disillusionment combined with the pressure of pleasing daddy being gone has kind of freed her up to try new things and move away from her parent's ideals, which she would probably want to actively move away from.

She's entered her rebellious phase.
>>
>>24394502

i think the point of the question here is that we got "disowned", got over it, got ready to live without them, then got them back.

We have measured what we learned from our supplicants against our parents teachings, and found them wanting.

Okay, well. As they are a lineage-based system there is literally no way to maintain that standing without repeated marriages to relatives(typically half-siblings and cousins) in order to keep that influence within the family. I guess it's a chicken and egg thing, I wouldn't be able to say for sure without knowing the exact reason behind the Masquerade. The nobility system could've evolved based on Pureblood sentiment depending on why exactly they decided to not mingle with the non-magical folk anymore.

Who am I saying, they probably just though they were better when they suddenly realized they could break shit with their minds, this whole society is corrupt from the root.

now that i think about it it makes sense for purebloods to have enslaved house elves. If any of their children are squibs house elves can fight for them and aparate them away from harm. It's kinda like having a guard dog that talks and does your laundry.
>>
>>24395648
I'm pretty sure Squibs are mostly Muggle Born, but it would coincide with how magical power tends to weaken in Purebloods over time.
>>
>>24395670
even so, im feel like im starting to piece some things together. Maybe the current state of wizard/elf relations is just a profane abuse of what started as a system of partnership. Humans are big and know deep magic, they can feed and house elves. elves are small and naturally gifted, they need no weapons. Its a great partnership to ensure the survival of the family, and by extention, magic throughout the dark ages. over time when wizarding communities got safer the children didnt need protecting, and their role changed from one of defender to servant, to what it is today.
>>
>>24395752
Considering laws prevent children from using magic until out of school that makes sense. Also, Pester was bought right after Millies birth so there does seem to be a strong relationship between house elves and kids.
