And we're back!

You are JAGER STURMFUHRER, leader of the Gallian mercenary company DEMONS OF RANDGRIZ and out to track down your fiancee, who betrayed you and joined the Imperials when they invaded your home nation of Gallia.

You've just put your own little mercenary squad together and have set out to help the Altantic Federation member nation Albion repel a possible amphibious invasion. After hunting down a suspected Imperial spy ring, you've run into a little snag.

That snag being a an Imperial u-boat surfacing in the bay. And it's not happy.

To say that the entire harbor exploding in a panic was a bit of an understatement. Only the Imperials used u-boats in a wide capacity, so it didn't take the Alionese citizens long to realize what was happening. It also didn't take long for the u-boat's deck gun to start indiscriminately shelling the harbor, no doubt to cover their comrade's retreat.

However, the u-boat had made a critical mistake. It had surfaced far too close to land, putting it well within range of Julia's tank, and even a lucky lance shot. Hell, if you jumped in a boat right now, you're confident that you could board the damn thing.

You turn to see the Home Guard contingent scrambling for cover. Captain Waring himself is trying to rally them, but they can't seem to hear him over the roaring of the u-boat's cannon.

>Your orders?

SINK THAT BITCH WITH AP ROUNDS!
>>
>>24409032

The tank fires, and keeps firing.

We lead everyone else to find the nearest boat, firing rockets and suppressing fire all the while.

Then we attempt to clear out the top deck.
>>
>>24409032
If the bastard spy is still out in the open, have everyone try to kill him while the tank fires on the U-Boat.
>>
>>24409032
Alexander snipes anyone exposed on the U-Boat, which is probably just the SPY. Anyone who has a decently ranged weapon also shoots at him, because fuck you Spy.

Julia opens fire with her tank on the U-Boat, because fuck submarines.

If Sam has a decent shot from here she takes it, remaining behind cover as much as possible, if she needs to get closer she should advance from cover to cover and then take the shot.
>>
>>24409032
>>24409049
Do this.
>>
>>24409032
Julia starts firing at the sub. Aleksander pops the spy then starts on the deck gun crew. Brillant supports him. Us Joe and Tarin hop in a boat and board that mother if Julia hasn't sunk it by the time we get there.

>>
So just to clarify, do you want to split the squad, or pile everyone into the boat?
>>
>>24409125
Leave our scouts and sniper for supporting fire since if we do board the ship the halls will likely be crowded anyway.
>>
>>24409125
Well obviously Julia isn't going in the boat.

Split. Keep Aleksandr, Julia, and Sam on shore, the rest of us which is Scouts and Stormtroopers will board that motherfucking U-Boat and wreck their shit.
>>
>>24409125

The lancer needs to be on the boat, our CQC specs as well. Leave the sniper, and the Tank, of course.
>>
>>24409164
Wait, maybe we should bring Sam, what is the range on the Lancaar in general terms, like on shore firing on the U-Boat or on a boat firing at it.
>>
>>24409204

I want Sam on the boat, part of this is being able to damage the sub from new angles, we need her to do that.
>>
>>24409032
"Demons! On me!" You yell, rallying your squad. "Julia, you stay on station and put some fire on that u-boat! Alek, don't let that spy escape. If it comes down to it, take him out. Everybody else, it's time for a boarding action!"

"Sweet!" Ramirez grins. "I call shotgun!"

Fortunately, there's a nearby tug that you easily commandeer. Everybody piles in, making sure to stay down so as not be exposed.

Julia begins to open fire on the u-boat. Thanks to the immediate threat she poses, as well as not looking too threatening yourself, the deck gun begins to pivot to face the tank.

Julia's cannon roars as it spits out an armor piercing shell, slamming into the side of the u-boat and causing it to rock momentarily. The spy, who was trying to clamber up the side, is knocked off by the shock and sent falling back into the water. Alek sighs and tries to readjust his aim.

Meanwhile, the deck returns fire at Julia. So far, the u-boat crew doesn't seem to have noticed you. You could try firing on it now, but you're still a bit out of ideal weapon range.

Julia and Alek both fire but miss. Julia's shell is off target and splashes into the bay just short of the U-boat. The spy has now reached the hull of the u-boat again and is attempting to clamber up.

"Yessss! So there that's where they put the turbocharge!" Heloise exclaims with glee before flipping a big red switch on the control console.

Designed to pull and push ships several magnitudes larger than itself, the tug's sheer power gives it a massive burst of speed, rocketing toward the u-boat. And and you're closing... rather fast.

The deck gun fire again, this time scoring a solid hit on Julia's tank. The armor remains intact, but the cursing you hear over the radio is a sign that the tank is out of commission for the time being.

"Status?" You ask.

"I'm okay! Just gotta vent this damn smoke out of the compartment..."

"Heloise! Punch it! We're ramming that motherfucker!"

"Roger roger!" Heloise says happily as she pushes the throttle even further.

"Everybody BRACE FOR IMPACT!" You yell.

Everybody ducks down as the tug slams into the side of the u-boat, causing both craft to shudder horribly. Fortunately, the tug is built for this kind of abuse and easily absorbs it. Meanwhile, the men on the, three crewing the gun and five trying to fish the spy out of the water, are knocked on their asses. For the second time, the spy is knocked off the side the u-boat and sent back into the water.

The tug, now locked with the u-boat continues its forward momentum, which you note is now pushing the u-boat farther out the harbor to the sea.

I should probably reiterate this part.

Also, you might want to dictate what you want individual squad members to do, or I'll just have to start making assumptions on my part.

If by breach you mean open the hatch and throw grenades down there, and maybe shoot a rocket, but that's after we clear the deck.

>>

He's irrelevant right now, we need to clear the deck. I don't want unnecessary cruelty, I really just think the asshole isn't worth our time. We've wasted far too much effort on him as is.
>>
>>24409914
"Demons! Take them out!" You yell, leaping into the fray.

The deck crew is still getting on their feet and are in no position to react, putting the initiative on your side. Meanwhile, Heloise starts working the controls of the tug to spin the the u-boat around and push it back to shore.

You can feel the hull beneath you begin to rumble. You guess that the crew has realized what was going on and is trying to escape from the tug's grip.

Tarin, Brillant and Alek try and pick off some of the crew.

Ramirez double taps as well.

Sam fires her lance directly at the deck gun.

Heloise tangles with the u-boat to try and keep it from slipping away.

Julia is still trying to get her tank operational again.
>>
>>24410334
You're not sure if it's just dumb luck or pure skill, but you see Sam's lance rocket streak out and fly straight down the deck gun's barrel. The weapon explodes in a cloud of fire and shrapnel, instantly killing the crew and rocking the entire ship.

After that, between the combined fire of the rest of your squad, the rest of the crew on deck is quickly mopped up.

Meanwhile, Heloise is still tangling with the u-boat. So far neither are getting anywhere, and are just spinning lazily in the harbor.

Again, the spy finally reaches the side of the u-boat again.

The spy FINALLY manages to clamber to the top of the sub, only to be met by quite a few guns pointed at his face. However, by this point, he's so exhausted from swimming and treading water that he just sighs and collapses onto the deck. Well, at least that saved you the trouble of kneecapping him.

"Okay, let's penetrate this bitch!' You say, motioning to the hatch.

It's a simple matter to pry open the the hatch, making sure you're leaning back. The moment the hatch opens, a hail gunfire surges out in retaliation.

"Whoever's down there, surrender now or we'll start dropping grenades down the hatch!" You yell.

Meanwhile Heloise is still jockeying for position with the u-boat.

"Don't shoot! We surrender!" You hear a voice from inside shout.

"Shut down your engines and come out! Slowly!"

And one by one, the crew slowly filters out of the u-boat and deposited in lifeboats. With the engines now shut down, Heloise easily begins pushing the u-boat to shallow water.

As you arrive, you can see quite a number of people have gathered on the shore, civilians and Home Guard alike. They've seen everything that had been going on the middle the bay, and they are all cheering you on. The crowd of people is so think you can't even walk on shore.

"Alright! Break it up, break it up!" You can see Captain Waring and his men trying to push the crowd back and give you some space. "Nothing to see here. Please return to your homes!"

"Well look at that, we're grade A heroes now!" Sam grins, still on a victory high after that miraculous shot.

The rest of your squad seems to be taking in the applause pretty well, too, all things considered. Ramirez starts doing silly poses, Heloise is jumping up and down as she waves back to the crowd, while Brillant leans back on the conning tower, grinning. Unsurprisingly, Tarin has slunk behind the tower, preferring to avoid attention.

A low rumble signifies Julia and Alek arriving, and very quickly they too are swarmed by the celebrating crowd. It's quite a amusing to see Alek frantically trying to stay out of the crowd's reach, banging on the hatch pleading Julia to let him in.

"Sir! Sir!" One man with a camera and notepad manages to slip his way through the Home Guard picket line and splashes his way to the beached u-boat. "Sir! That was an amazing battle? Do you have anything to say?"

Very well. I can see I am outvoted here. >>24411666

Indeed, thats why we tell the reporter what really happened.

But, whatever, this is not so major an issue. Either way, our fortunes increase, I can live with it if you would all rather not offend a bunch of flagrantly incompetent old men.
>>
>>24411215
"I am Jager Sturmfuhrer, leader of the 'Demons of Randgriz'." You say. "We're getting paid to keep Albian safe from those damn Imperials and God Dammit that's what we're going to do, and next time your Home Guard needs a little help, we'll be right here to pick up the slack! Provided our contract is still valid, of course!"

The reporter is still scribbling down what you've said he's pulled away by one of Colonel Lynch's big, burly bodyguards.Lynch himself is already standing on the deck of the u-boat.

"It was an engaging performance, I admit. You certainly know how to exceed expectations." He says simply before handing you a card. "For whenever you're ready."

And with that, Lynch disappears again. You resolve one day to figure out how he does it.

"Hey, what are doing sulking there! Waring says the entire damn city wants to get us a round." Sam says, grabbing your arm and pulling toward the hastily set up gangplank.

CODEX ENTRY UNLOCKED

Spoils of War
Most mercenary contracts have a "Spoils of War" clause added in, which basically gives mercenary groups ownership of any enemy equipment and material they seize on the field of battle during an authorized mission. Most governments let this pass because they don't actually expect mercenaries to be able to capitalize much on it. However, they can't really back out of the clause either, since that would be breach of contract and it would make them look bad.

So, in summary, you take it, you keep it. Of course, you'll have to foot the bills to fixing it up and storing it, but there's always ways to negotiate around those issues.

"You go on ahead, Sam, I'll catch up with you later." You say.

You take the momentary peace to get a good look at the card Lynch handed you. All that shows on it is a circle with a dagger within it. On the bottom is an address. Other than that the card is completely blank.

"Come on!" Sam returns and starts pulling on your arm again.

Your first idea was to have the victory party on the u-boat itself, but Lynch's men quickly shot down that idea. The moment you stepped off it, the craft was already surrounded by a ring of SOE troops. The crowd then went to the secondary celebration site, which was the nearest pub they could find.

Already, everybody is getting into their own shenanigans. You yourself have completely lost track of how many beers you've down and how many hands you've shaken. You try pushing your way through the crowd to find your squad.

Despite being just a kid compared to all the older gentlemen here, Sam has been drinking one after the other under the table.

Well, you can't very well just leave your cute little adjutant passed out in a pub.You gently pick up, until you realize she's still wearing her Lancer armor which pretty much adds another metric ton. Still, you've had to endure worse in basic training, so it's more of an inconvenience than a challenge.

Outside, it's already gotten rather cold, and the partygoers who couldn't get into a pub have already largely dispersed, leaving only the occasional Home Guard patrolman. You remember that your assigned bunks were in a nearby hotel currently being used to house military personnel. It doesn't take more than ten minutes to reach the hotel.

You initially make your way to Sam's assigned bunk, when you get a rather devious idea in your head. You instead carry her to your personal quarters. You can almost imagine the panicked look on her face when she wakes up in your bed and tries to piece together what happened last night.

You gingerly remove her heavy Lancer armor before tucking her in. Sam mumbles something in her sleep, but you can't quite make it out. You then...

Arthur Dayne is a character from ASoIaF. He was considered the best swordsman in the seven kingdoms. "Living as a Darcsen in the Empire isn't exactly a pleasant experience. You're always on the run from Imperial deathsquads. Always hiding, always fighting. Everybody was a potential enemy, and night was the only time it was ever safe to move around. Thought Gallia would be safe, but the Imps invaded anyways. Guess I joined up because I got tired of running and hiding."

"Doesn't explain why you took such an interest in me."

"I was just curious about your relationship with the Lieutenant. That's all."

"What, Sam? She's practically like a sister to me."

"Ah." Tarin nods. You get the feeling she's done talking for now.

Randgriz is less a nation, granted it is a seat of power.
>>
>>24413287

Because we're the demons of RANDGRIZ, not RAZGRIZ.

I'd prefer if there was more Gallian elements in the logo, to be honest. A unicorn, the colors blue and white, Randgriz tower (the lance of that superweapon, seems appropriate). Maybe a blue devil wielding said tower. I dunno, I want to tie it to Gallia because that's where we're from.
>>
Hey OP, question from previous thread:

>With Ace Combat elements being snuck into the Valkyria Chronicles setting in this quest, what are the odds that the Principality of Belka is around? Probably as a hardcore part of the Empire, full of knightly orders and extremist pro-Imperials. If the war ends with an Imperial loss, they might secede out of disgust and try to carry on the fight.

Maybe that's where Karla is from...
>>
>>24413325
Lets go see Ramirez, see what he's got to say
>>
>>24413433
Belka is a semi-autonomous state that was absorbed into the Empire centuries ago. Karla herself is essentially the princess of Belka.
>>
>>24413402
I'd advise against getting too close to national colours, we're strictly non-national actors now on contract to the highest bidder
Still, a lance or two couldn't hurt. Maybe crossed anti-tank lances?
>>
>>24413476
our plan to kill the emperor and have karla take over and turn the empire around just became all the more plausible

Like I said, I crapped this out in 2-3 minutes using paint at 4AM. The other guys said they'll take a look at creating more logos, but it's always nice to create more options.

Was browsing while I started rendering and someone mentioned a blue theme so I ended up going with that. Wanted to simplify it a bit, got two versions, long and short horns.
I feel like the lightning bolts might be intruding a bit too much on the devil face, but I wanted opinions before I pursue this one further.

Getting pretty late in my timezone, so I opted to pass on the thumbnails this round. Too lazy.

At the time of posting, I'm thinking it might look a bit too Blue Meanie...

Since this is basically heraldry light, there are some good things to learn from the rules of heraldry. Mostly that you should never put "color on color" or "metal on metal" (metal being gold/yellow and silver/white).
Basically: keep a good color contrast.
Blue on blue makes the image hard to make out without studying it closely, so go back to the red demon.
I like how the demon is a lot "cleaner" now, though, so keep the design, just change the color. We want something easily identified, even at a glance, so no fancy details all over the place. Keep it simple and clean.

Having the background be blue is enough, in my opinion.
That way each element is a self contained refecence working together and the image is easy to make out. So something like "we come from Gallia" (blue background, as "background" can mean "past" when referring to a person), "we are the Demons of Randgriz" (the demon) and "we're lead by Jäger Sturmführer" (the lightning bolts).

We should also have a more fancy version for painting on vehicles where there is more room compared to a shoulder patch. Like that idea of a hunter in a storm. We could have the demon standing in profile with a drawn bow. (I was considering a gun, but a bow would better represent that the Sturmführer family is an old one.) And of course the arrow would be aimed along the tank's gun barrel.
Not that anyone actually needs to draw something like that, I just like the idea of a more elaborate image for vehicles existing at all, even if just in my head.
>>
>>24414172
I approve of this idea. Also, I think Jäger's Demon should have a goatee or other detail to show he's the CO.

There could also be different versions for each class, by giving the Demon some minor piece of gear related to the job. (A pair of radio operator head phones for tank crew, a crosshair monocle representing a scope for snipers, maybe a dagger between it's teeth to represent the close combat of assault troopers, and so on.)
Jäger's should be without such things though. He is the CO first, an assault trooper second.
