Good evening ladies and gentlemen of /tg/! A few weeks ago we succesfully ran a duel -- a fecht -- between two fully-armored knights...in FATAL! And now we're going to do it again. I'll need your help!

Last time, we had two guys in full platemail hammering at each other. It quickly resulted in spaghetti everywhere. This time, the same two guys will have at each other with polearms! And this time, they'll be nearly unarmored. And if you're interested, I may be able to run a magic duel afterwards.

Let's get this trainwreckstarted.

Last time, we had 29-year-old knight Helmin Waad, armed with a zweihander*, take on young up-and-coming Laurence Houby, a 23-year-old, a knight who prefers mace & board.

In their titanic battle, Waad severed Houby's weapon hand and Houby responded by breaking Waad's own right hand. Their plate armor was largely meaningless in the face of lucky dice. This time, they'll be in their common clothes. Waad will wield a Bec de Corbin, while Houby, victor of the previous duel, will use a Bill.

Here are Helmin Waad and Laurence Houby's FULL statistics. You've been warned.
Waad - http://paste2.org/eEPMPGt9
Houby - http://paste2.org/KH4a459U

*Zweihanders in FATAL, the most extensively researched RPG off the market, has 6-foot-long, 2-handed swords listed as weighing 15 lbs. This has been heavily debunked prior to and after the writing of FATAL. Historical accuracy!

Are you familiar with D&D-type Touch spells, like Shocking Grasp? Things you need to touch your target to activate? It'll be like that in the middle of a street brawl. Or, possibly, killing each other from 150 feet away. It remains to be seen.

In the meantime, have a look at the spells the wizards in such a duel may have at their disposal.

Speaking of that. The best fulcrum point for Waad to use on his Bec de Corbin is about a little over half-way up the handle. Any further down the shaft than that and he'll suffer a penalty to his hit roll!

It wasn't difficult to compute. I imagine the weaker Houby will have a lot more trouble with his MUCH longer and heavier Bill.

Of course, if either fighter loses an arm or a hand this time, they're likely out of luck!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_penis_size

>A review published in the 2007 issue of BJU International showed the average erect penis length to be 14–16 cm (5.5–6.3 in) and girth to be 12–13 cm (4.7–5.1 in).

In average, the largest circumference for human penis is barely on the same range than the average length. So, it could be said that having the same length and circumference is rare to say the least.
>>
>>24483031
It helps when you remember not to confuse circumference with diameter.
>>
>>24483036
Fair point. Still, however, from the same link:

> In three studies of penis size where measurements were taken in a laboratory setting, the range of average penis circumference when erect was 3.5 to 3.9 inches (8.9 to 9.9 centimetres)

So, talking about average penis size, the circumference is far lower than the average length.

OK guys, thanks for waiting. Here's the Delivery Penalties and Initiative modifiers for these two men on their Initiative rolls. I did it wrong last time. A fighter's breadth -- the length of their arm -- only matters for the FIRST initiative in the combat. Why? Well, the book says the fighters are assumed to be moving around, screaming, shouting, and this makes arm length not matter after the first three seconds of combat.

In Riddle of Steel (and presumably in the upcoming game by John Galt & friends, Song of Swords! Check it out! >>24467708), the smallest unit of combat time is an Exchange. An Exchange is 1.5 seconds long. Two Riddle of Steel Exchanges are equivalent to one round in FATAL.

So here's the deal. Initiative is rolled every round for each fighter. The roll is 1d100 plus or minus modifiers.
Waad's initiative rolls will suffer a -102 penalty if he tries to Pound with the hammer head of his weapon, but only a -36 if he tries to stab. On the first round of combat ONLY, he adds his Breadth to his initiative roll, giving a +33 no matter which weapon head he uses. This means if Waad wants to Pound, he'll likely be going last in Initiative!

Houby is perhaps in more dire straights. He suffers a -74 penalty if he tries to Hack with the blade of his bill, or a -76 if he tries to stab with the pointy end. On the first round of combat ONLY, he adds his barely longer Breadth of +34 to the initiative roll he makes.

The game doesn't say what to do if your Initiative Roll ends up below zero. My idea is to allow negative numbers, which would mean we could simplify the initiative rolls. But I kind of like it this way, with massive penalties all around.

Houby has a special advantage, however. The duel will be taking place outside his home, as Waad seeks Houby out for an honorable rematch. Houby is caught shooting the bull with his family when Waad kicks in the door and challenges Houby to the duel!
"Who be Houby?" says Waad
"I'm Sir Laurence Houby, you cur!" replies Houby.

The fighters then step outside and take weapons from Houby's outdoor armory which is very conveniently located in a clear open grassy plain.

Because Houby's on his own ground, he gets a bonus.

This is one thing I think is good about FATAL. This bonus you get for fighting on your own territory.

Also I included Called Shots here because there was confusion about how to calculate the penalties for called shots to the groin. If you wanted to stab a dude in the dick, how hard would it be?

Blood only seeps out of the vagina if the hymen is broken or if there's a Ripped Orifice problem. Unless the wench has a very tiny vaginal circumference potential, there wouldn't be any bleeding.

I calculated it out by the way, and a young human woman with an average vaginal circumference and Hymen Resistance of 47 or less (out of 99) is guaranteed to pop the cherry.

Here's the gist of FATAL combat mechanics. It's very similar to Dungeons & Dragons.

During each round, all fighters roll an Initiative roll for EACH ATTACK they'll make. Apparently you choose which type of attacks you're doing at the start of the round, although the game does not make this clear.

Initiative is resolved from highest score to lowest.

To make an attack, you roll *another* d100 to find WHERE you attack will land. That's where Body Part Percentages come in. Basically, bigger parts of your body have a higher chance of being hit. Ever play GURPS with random hit locations? It's like that but with d100.

Then you roll 3d10. The crux of FATAL mechanics is rolling 3d10 + modifiers against some Threshold (TH). In combat, Threshold is renamed Current Armor (CA) and it works exactly like D&D Armor Class. You want to EQUAL or EXCEED a target's CA on your 3d10 + modifiers roll to hit them.

Last thread I had each fighter do a practice swing on a target so we can get the mechanics down. Let's do that again! Who should swing first, Waad or Houby?

Great. A practice stab.
I assume that was for Initiative? If you wish to roll again for Hit Location, go right ahead!

A typical human has a CA of 10. Your Agility score modifies this, so it's very important to have a good Agility score if you plan on getting into combat. This practice target will be just like Houby and Waad, a man wearing clothing. He has a CA of 11.

So, I need 3d10 for Waad and possibly another d100 for hit location!

I need to go figure out their skill modifiers, too!

That's the upper torso. Not the groin, surprisingly. I wouldn't put it past author Byron Hall to have made it that way.

That's a successful stab to this target's torso! Now we roll for damage. You can see here >>24482337 if you squint real hard and turn your head sideways that both a Bec de Corbin and a Bill do 2d10 damage when stabbing.

So roll 2d10 and see how badly you hurt that peasant!

Some notes:
Any natural roll of 6 or less is a FUMBLE.
Any natural roll of 25 or more, that also beats the target's CA by 3 or more, causes GRAPHIC GORE. (That means we roll on the wound table, kiddies!)
Any natural roll of 30 is an AUTOMATIC HIT.

An average naked human has a CA of 10.
An average human has 20 Life Points (LP). They fall unconscious at 4 LP and die at 0 or less.
>>
>>24483526

A fechtthread is a battle run using the rules of a system, where /tg/ makes two people kill each other for fun and profit. Usually, it ends in horrible injuries.

They were popularized by John Galt and his Riddle of Steel fights. FATALfechtbro is running these to build hype for Song of Swords, the de facto 2nd edition of that game.

Also, FATAL is inherently amusing to watch.

A fecht thread, or fight thread or duel thread, is a thread where we take an actual /tg/ game system -- usually Riddle of Steel or GURPS, but also that Traveller space combat guy and of course this -- and we run a fight in it. Usually a 1-on-1 match. We like to use historical set-ups in sort of a Deadliest Warrior way, like a Roman Legionary against a Viking, an Italian-school fencer against a French Knight, or a Chinese warrior against a Korean warrior in the 13th century. We're actually playing the game system.

A quest thread, by comparison, is usually a collective storytelling experience with very light mechanics. It's a story that is nudged along by die rolls, rather than truly playing a system. Lots of dialogue goes on in quest threads. You don't see much of that in fecht threads.

HOUBY'S TURN

ROLL d100 FOR HIT LOCATION AND ANNOUNCE ATTACK TYPE (Hacking or Stabbing)
THEN ROLL 3d10+13 FOR HOUBY'S GLORIOUS STRIKE

Here's the rundown with skills. Each combatant has 5 Skill Points invested in Weapon (Polearm, General Type). This means they don't suffer any penalties for using Polearms. I don't believe they get +5 to their rolls to hit for the SP invested, but the book isn't 100% clear on that. I'm assuming they don't.

That means Waad's attacks will be made on 3d10+7, while Houby's will be on 3d10+13!

Okay. Time to ignore fewer mechanics, and add more complexity to the damage rolls. We'll also start accounting for Infection, Smiting, and so on.

I hope you guys have a basic understanding of the system now. I'm going to turn on every rule and we'll start the fight in a minute.

For example, you're not actually doing 3d10+2 damage. You're likely doing more or less as modified by your strength and the fulcrum point you're swinging the weapon from.

Waad's damage is modified by the following:
[damage] * 1.30 (165 Strength) * 0.42 (fulcrum point), or
[damage] * 0.546
Fulcrum point 58 along a range of 5 - 90, with 90 being very near to the blade and 5 near the end of the shaft
(100 - 58) / 100= 0.42

Houby's damage is worse. His is modified by:
[damage] * 1.14 (132 Strength) * 0.14 (fulcrum point), or
[damage] * 0.1596

As a general rule in FATAL, you USUALLY truncate all fractions from rolled values. So if after modifiers your damage is 14.999, you do only 14 damage. The decimals and fractions are dropped.

>>24483862
That's only on the to hit roll, not the damage roll. But if it were a to hit roll, yes, it would almost be Graphic Gore!

Also derp I totally forgot the to hit roll in that last strike.

Waad
Pounding
(2d12 +1) * 0.546
minimum damage 1
maximum damage 13
Stabbing
(2d10) * 0.546
minimum damage 1
maximum damage 10

Houby
(3d10+2) * 0.1596
minimum damage 0
maximum damage 5
(2d10) * 0.1596
minimum damage 0
maximum damage 3

Waad has a HUGE advantage here in damage potential. It's all thanks to Houby being too weak to use a bill at a good fulcrum point.

The warriors will start 10 paces away from each other.

First things first! The judge of this fight is an awkward 17-year-old girl. She will gift a random magical item to the victor!

The challenger, Helmin Waad, was defeated by Laurence Houby on the outskirts of the village of Goldenwurst. Waad shamed his duchess and is on a geas of repentance. He came to Houby's own home to challenge him to an honor duel. It's probably to the death whether we want it to be or not. Can Waad redeem himself and honorably take up the mantle of knight once more?

Laurence Houby successfully claimed Goldenwurst for his mistress by trial of arms. He was at home enjoying the company of his family when Waad arrived. Can he defend his honor and his life in front of all he holds dear?

It's time for the initial Initiative rolls. The combatants are close enough to walk to each other, so there's no need to worry about distance.

Waad rolls 1d100 - 102 + 33 if trying to Pound, or 1d100 - 49 + 33 if trying to stab.
Houby rolls 1d100 - 84 + 34 + 5 if trying to Hack, or 1d100 - 76 + 33 + 5 if trying to stab.
Houby's +5 comes from his Home Advantage.

Get rolling!

Roll a d100 to see where Houby's stab lands, and then 3d10+13 to see if you hit at all!

Remember, a NATURAL roll of 6 or less is a Fumble, or critical failure.
A NATURAL 25 or higher causes Graphic Gore if it also beats the opponent's CA by 3 or more. (Which it will in this fight.)
A NATURAL 30 is a hit.

A natural 15. An easy hit.

For reference, although it's very unlikely to come up in this fight, if you fail your attack roll because of an opponent's armor boosting his CA, you hit his armor and damage it. For that to happen, one of you would need to roll a total of around 11. I need to check the specific number.

Okay, roll 2d10 * 0.1596 for stabbing damage, Houby. Realize you'll do between 0 and 3 damage.
FATAL has no clause for minimum damage because you hit a guy, believe it or not.

>natural 17, no gore or anything special
Oh goodness. A 100 hits the Head. Let me explain this before we go further.

There are two trackers for hit points in FATAL. First is Life Points. That's your general all-round healthiness.
Second are Body Part Points.

When you deal damage to a person, you deal damage in 2 ways. The amount of damage you roll is subtracted from the other guy's Life Points. It's his hit points basically.

But you also subtract an equal number of Body Part Points from the part you hit. You get BPP for each individual body part by running a calculation. An average human has 20 Life Points, but his Upper Torso only has (20 LP * 3 * 0.29 proportion of upper torso to the rest of the body) = 17 Body Part Points.

When a body part's BPP is reduced to zero, that part is rendered FOREVER USELESS. (Book's own words.) Drop a guy's groin to zero? No more children for him. Drop a guy's arm to zero? No more arm. Drop their Upper Torso, Lower Torso, or Head/Face to zero? They're in the dead book now.

If you dealt only 17 damage, the man would lose his Upper Torso and be slain. The same happens if you destroy a person's Lower Torso or Head/Face.

If you dealt MORE than enough damage to destroy a part, it is severed.

There's one exception. The Head and the Face SHARE a Body Part Point pool. This means Houby's total BPP for his Head/Face is 2.
20 * 0.2 = 1
20 * 0.6 = 1
1+1 = 2
If Waad does even two points of damage to Houby, Houby is dead.

DERP

His Head/Face has 4 total BPP.
20 * 3 * 0.2 = 1
20 * 3 * 0.6 = 3
1 + 3 = 4

Indeed.

5 + 2 + 1 = 8.

8 * 0.546 = 4.

Head/Face BPP = 4
4 - 4 = FOREVER USELESS

Having his Head/Face BPP reach zero, Houby is killed. Rather quickly.

For fun, let's pretend that hit scored Graphic Gore so we can see what would have happened to the guy.

The referee girl barely lifted up her hand and stepped back before the combatants were at it. Their steely gazes turned into squints of focused rage as they set upon each other. Waad brought back his bec de corbin, preparing for a strong hammer swing. Houby was faster -- a sense of deja vu nibbled at his mind -- and he ran forward with his bill held high up on the shaft. Although he drove the spike towards his opponent's midsection, the weapon ended up merely grazing Waad's right thigh. Houby fell slightly with his heavy weapon, ending up bent over where his foe's leg had been before he twisted out of the way. The last thought through Houby's mind was a sense that history was meant to repeat itself. Hot on the heels of that thought was Waad's hammer.

A gasp erupted from the crowd. The sound of shattered bone and the short spray of precious lifeblood, scarce seconds after combat had begun, was a sudden shock to Houby's family. As Waad stepped back from his foe, he could already hear a woman crying. The referee girl's hands covered her face, but her eyes were transfixed on the corpse of Sir Laurence Houby.

Waad bowed his head in respect of a fallen rival, then slowly walked away. It took all his willpower not to look back upon the devastated family behind him. Their screams would echo in his ears long after he retreated into the woods to pray for guidance.

Someone should do a sword path glory fetch game

What is sword path glory?
Remember phoenix command? The ultra complex game?
The company first made sword path glory (fantasy game) it was super complex
then they decided to make less complex games to get a audience for sword path glory:
first rhand (scifi) less complex than sword path glory
then they changed to spectrum small arms (nowadays and some future stuff) that was less complex
then phoenix command that was even less complex
>>
>>24487910
ps they first did a red book version of sword path glory
and then made another version that was a little less complex (less tables) that is called the white version, they then made 2 books to it (roleplaying one and advanced rules [problably with rules for weapons that need specific rules])

Its not too hard, you just need to check the book alot and make alot of changes.

some stuff from the book
your ability to move stuff= based on strenght with size
real strenght =based on ability to move stuff with weight of the stuff you have
normal walk speed = based on hability of moving stuff with weight you have
max speed= based on normal walk speed with speed modifier
aceleration =based on max speed with dextery
how long you can susten pain and will stop fighitng= will power + fighting skill

when somone give some damage to you, you will do a check to see if you will stop fighting from pain and the answer is yes, if you will also dies.
if he dont die, the last damages increase the chance of him dying the last time he takes damage, or something like that
PS: he says on the next book (released but not here on the tghreads) there are more complex rules to it

this is basically what this book is (forgot to post about how weapon works, would do if I undertood it)

its not as hard, the problem is that you need to change alot of stuff alot of times, as some example when you decrease your weight, because alot of things
>>
>>24490631
man I would love to see other books.
PS: the guy that did this book actually works with rocket science for nasa. He stopped to do the books because he said rocket science was easier, he got more money with a easier job.

He could do like that.
Think about some sword path glory book and do a gibstarter with some amount of money that would make him want work on the game.
If he get the money he do the book if not he dont.
Then after he do it, he do the same with the second book..... and third, stopping when some book dont reach the goal
