I posted on Sunday about a game I was going to be going involving some of the bigwigs of my company and their friends in AD&D.

It went amazingly. Anyone want to hear the details of my first session?
>>
Rolled 246

Hells yes.
>>
>>24483685
Why not? Tell us your story.
>>
Yes, a million times yes!
>>
Oh god yes.

I was one of the ones rooting for you.
>>
Tell us of your travels, space man.
>>
well tell us already OP
>>
As I have said I'm the awkward IT guy at the company, and by pure happenstance ended up wearing the wrong or right? shirt to the corporate gym. Due to that shirt I was invited into the big game, and left around a half hour ago.

The day started pretty normally. I was about to go to lunch with a few friends from my department after finishing up a conversation about acquiring some new hardware and AV equipment for an expansion when I received The Call.

HR. Well fuck. I felt the bile rising, fear running laps in my stomach. What had I done? Did they finally catch onto my terrible pen chewing addiction? That time I made a pass at the hot girl in Accounting?

My buddies gave me a good luck and a nod as I walked to the elevators, taking the ride up to the Den of Promotions from our basement headquarters.

I was met at the elevator by the manager of HR for our office. Short of the head of HR, the manager was the guy who sent out the generalists for hirings and firings.

With a bead of sweat I walked down the hall, escorted by a burly guy from Security, to the manager's office. I've got water dripping down the crack of my ass here, I'm writing my resume while wondering if I could get all of my stuff by the end of business...

"We brought him sir." the head said to whoever was sitting in his giant office chair.

"Yes, yes, bring him in." Said the low voice.

I sat down, praying to everything I have ever thought of that this wasn't the end until the chair spun around with the head of HR, the guy who had invited me to the game, smiling.

"What the hell is this?" He asked, still grinning, as he sat down a couple pages of printouts. The old /tg/ thread, where I had asked about what I should do.

I tried to stammer out a reply before I heard the piercing shriek of something right behind my chair.
>>
>>24483875
oh man I wish this didn't stretch credibility so much ;_;
>>
>>24483875
>Head of HR browses /tg/
Oh fuck yeah.
>>
>>24483875

I cleared around two feet and almost broke the cheap chair.

And then there was the laughter.

Behind me stood the head of HR, almost crying as he bent over laughing, the security guard smiling, an old guy I've never seen before...

And the senior VP holding an air horn.

"(The Security guy) saw your post on /tg/. Just don't mention the company and you can talk about the game, alright?" the VP came up, shook my hand, and explained the process behind the game.

Every Friday, around 2 PM local time, the game starts. Everyone meets for a 'strategy meeting' in the VP's conference room. There are six players other than myself:

>Senior VP
>Head of HR
>HR Manager
>Security Guard
>Janitor Foreman (Old Guy)
>Former Legal guy, started the game.

Apparently these 'strategy meetings' sometimes last late into the night, and are paid for those of the group who are not salaried. I've never been more thankful to be an hourly worker in my life.

So after the hazing, introductions, and the fun, we go up to the conference room. I have never seen anything like it.

>>

The setup reminded me of what you see at a convention. The table, large enough to seat around 30, is arrayed with various draped bits and pieces, along with comfortable seats for everyone and a fully stocked bar.

Unfortunately I wasn't prepared for the damn game. All of my stuff was back at my place, with my PC, because who plays on a workday? So I was forced into play as a henchman of Lothar Hill, the grim warrior prince of the North.

My name? Toothless Tim. So my character for the session is a 3rd level fighter, good, clean, simple and old as fuck.

Then the introductions came. In the same order as before:

>Don Wicker, human hedge knight and lothario, man of a thousand polearms.
>Tomas Lutesin, human priest of the Goddess of Heroes. Dour fat man who appears to have been scalped.
>Loren Bandersnatch, human Thief. Small, wiry, and offensive.
>Elinor Cross, Human Paladin.
>Jarl Giantslayer, Dwarf Fighter.
>Karl Giantslayer, Dwarf Fighter.

So now I had the basic character introductions, the brothers, and I was ready to go.

Apparently we were starting in the middle of traveling.

Oh fucking HELL fuck yes. Holy grail, man.

At this point, I don't even CARE if it's a lie. I'll pretend to believe it, just to have a bit of hope in HR and management types lol
>>
>>24483960
>>24484150
Well, I guess you know where you are going to be working for the rest of your life.

Just watch. You'll be head of IT in no time, and rumours will spread of the mysterious strategy meetings which only the inner circle of the company is invited to. But they'll never know that the people running the company are sitting behind those doors pretending to be elves, dwarves and wizards.
>>
>>24484203
>Rumours spread of these meetings being horrid affairs with everything from hookers and blow to ritualistic murders and the occult.
>One guy swears he overheard one once
>He thinks they were talking about bat guano and a man made of butter.
>>
>>24484150

Then the DM comes out. I've seen him before, working on various nerdy things at local shops, and we have had a chat over a couple of games of Magic. He had once told me he ran a pretty cool game, but I never expected to see him here. A bit of a fat neckbeard, but the good type.

And apparently he is the brother to one of the founders of the group. From the stories during various breaks I learned he had worked in IT for awhile but started making money building props and working for a small theater company and so he treats the Game as his little fun factory.

And I couldn't be happier that he was there.

The sound system is filled with ambient noises of the forest. The sounds of things moving, birds calling to each other, occasionally a chittering squirrel or some small game. They just talked, in character, for thirty minutes, as I rode alongside my lord's priest who was on a quest to found a poultice to cure the lord's child.

I hear about their battles against the Brotherhood of the Broken Blade, their triumph against the barrow king of Whitehill. One of the other henchman, in one of the many voices the DM would pull out, sang a song they all joined in on.

And I couldn't have been happier, or more anxious. Just seeing how deep they were into this, guys completely shed of their position. The janitor and the lawyer jesting about the wenches their dwarven brothers had lain with on the quest, Lutesin tut tutting over the tales while throwing in japes.

Then it happened. After sitting back for so long I was finally noticed, and Loren was the one to speak up.

"Well then Tom, are you tongueless and toothless? Tell us a tale of your bravery."

I told a story about another group, where I had played a fighter who had an incident with a privy, several fairies, and a fat woman named the Whale of Saltspring.

When I heard their laughter I knew I was in.

But then the horns sounded, and all Hell broke loose.
>>
Any chance the original thread was archived? I am curious about the details, but missed it.
>>
>>24484308

It was just questions about how to play as I had never played AD&D before.
>>
>>24484327
>Never played before

>>24484304
>This is your introduction

A piece of my soul just died of pure jealousy. I've never had a game anywhere near that glorious.
>>
>>24484304

The DM asks for descriptions, and I realize I have entered into a zone of discomfort. Having never played AD&D I was still somewhat unsure of the rules behind the combat system, but there was that slide rule sort of thing for THAC0 available and I figured I could fake my way through it.

Then I saw the battlefield. Hours of work had to have been put into this setup. Dozens of trees, flocked ground, a small running stream...

Then the DM flicks a switch.

The fucking water is running. The guy cut, plated, and put hydrological features onto a board for a single encounter.

There are brigands in the forest, and we are under attack. A dozen not-so-merry men, and all of us in the middle of the road and out in the open.

In all I wasn't as prepared as I should have been for the tactical elements. Sir Wicker and Elinor rode down one of the fools who stood in the road as Tomas blessed the party and the Giantslayer twins unleashed havoc from large, ornate slingshot/crossbows of their people. I wheeled and protected my priestly charge from harm as he prayed and called on his goddess.

And then my horse spooked.

Morale... Is kind of new to me, and I didn't expect that the arrow my horse took would cause it to spook. A failed roll and I am bolting into the fray, my horse flailing about, and I stabilize myself just long enough to see one of the brigands begin chanting while pulling strange reagents from his pouch.

I roll to fend off the mage, pray that I do well...

And end up hitting. Hard. Maximum damage on the roll, spell fizzles, and the brigand drops to the ground in a heap.

Overall it took around an hour to finish the fight, and my stomach had started rumbling after around three hours of play, introductions, and missing out on lunch.

So we sat down to our catered meal, thick steak sandwiches from a local place and a couple of drinks, and shot the breeze as the DM prepared for the next bit of the journey.

Glorious.
>>
>>24484511
Fuck, I'm so jealous.
>>
I don't believe this, but it is a good tale.
>>
>>24484511

I know the game isn't very exciting looking back on it, but I wish I could explain it better. I think tonight's game may have been more of an introduction, but the work the DM put in is amazing.

We told tales of glory, drank wine provided in skins passed around the table by the VP, and singing songs and playing silly in-game games. We must've burned most of the night in exposition, but it is still the best game I have been involved in.

We arrived at our destination, a desolate keep in the middle of the forest, forgotten by man or beast. The setup was again amazing, with a compound around 8*10' with all of the buildings, the keep, and all atop an enormous hill. I almost died to a trap due to my foolishness, but I was saved by a lucky roll. A dead ogre, dressed in finery made from the tapestries of the keep, set atop a throne made of bones...

Then I noticed that there was a passage behind it, and that the hill could open up.

And we wrapped to the sounds of clanking, lumbering steel, and the ogre turning to grin at us.

I hope you enjoyed this, in hindsight, incredibly boring tale of the possibly best thing that has happened to me. I'll come back and tell the tale of the next session next week.

Why not go more into depth on the games within games you mentioned and various bits of roleplay? Maybe you could snag a pic or two of the scenery next week?

I've enjoyed your tale a lot, though. Indeed, my fantasy is to be in an atmosphere like that where everyone is quite professional and /fa/ as fuck, then game like that.

Amazing. This is what gaming can be like when you're with professionals and everyone isn't poor as fuck. Reading this makes me want to be a less lazy GM. Not enough to actually do something about it, but I'm still pretty impressed.

Maybe I'll make forest noises or something next session.

Because the story is unbelievable. If true, OP can take our disbelief as a testament to his luck in getting in, and if not, he has still regaled us with a dream. We're all about things that are made up here, so don't assume questioning the reality is criticism.
>>
>>24484757

There was Tonk, and a few dice games that I didn't catch onto. I made some silver due to having played Tonk a bit. I spent a good amount of time chatting up the paladin about faith, which was actually kind of fun and interesting as I took a few theology courses on a lark in college.

No photos in the game, as the conference room would be recognizable. While the scenery was quite quality, and I do enjoy the amount of work put it... The coolest parts really were getting to sit with people who could roleplay after so many who just roll dice and let it fly.
>>
Everything, and I mean everything, sounds blatantly false.

If true then it sounds like you are gaming with a control freak GM with no real roleplaying just arbitrarily showing up for an encounter that the GM has dreamed up.

>Demanding pictures
>Put someone into a firing position

>>
>>24484922
but, but, stop poking holes in my fantasy...er story.

..........maybe this thread is OP's version of roleplaying
>>
>>24484958
This. People don't realize exactly how delicate this sort of situation would be.

It's not about us random grognards recognizing the conference room. It's about the picture cropping up somewhere, and someone finding their way to an archive of this thread, and finding out what those several-hour meetings are REALLY about.

It's the same reason you don't post your girlfriend's tits. Even if she doesn't browse /tg/, the possibility for her to accidentally stumble upon the fact that you posted them is unacceptable.
>>
>>24484958
I don't see what would be wrong of politely asking the DM on the side for a picture of his work. Especially considering how much effort was put into it, why wouldn't he want it to be appreciated and saved?

Obviously OP shouldn't just sneak a picture.
>>
Sir, Did you just take a picture of that table?

Yes, why is that a prob;em?

Didn't you notices it was emblazoned with the logo of our company like it was a goddamn nascar and RPing is illegal?

oh yeah...guess I missed that.
>>
>>24484990
But you said that the GM already spent hours setting up some elaborate 3D landscape.

How pray tell did he get everything there and set up if that took hours, then you gamed for hours. Was he in a 12 hour meeting with company employees and nobody noticed him bringing in small topiary?

Actually, it sounds more like the GM constructed it outside of the session. If you have running water, you don't piece it together on-site--that's the sort of thing you build and cart in.

I agree. I'm all for criticizing OP's story, but this isn't an issue, I believe. I don't see what would be wrong with a fellow carting in some boxes full of "supplies" in a busy multi-level company office. Especially if it's been a pretty regular, normal thing.
>>
>>24485065

obviously he should be careful in the matter. you're implying OP is incompetent. I believe the suggestion was to take a pic of the set piece taken out of context of the boardroom. maybe OP can meet the DM somewhere else, or he could simply take a picture zoomed in on the scenery.
>>
>>24485072

I get the desire to not believe my story, even with others apparently being happy to talk about the story and learn about it. I figured that, because some guys helped me out with some information, I should post how everything went for the first session. I don't think >>24484778 is our security guy, but maybe he is.

Now I wonder why I should bother posting fun things that are /tg/ related. I'd be happy to take some photos but I hold to the rules of the game. Makes me not lose my spot in a great gig and a seemingly very fun game.
>>
>>24485165

Why would pics of landscape be taboo, especially if it's as big as OP said. I mean you have a phone or camera 12 inches above and you get 1 square foot worth of picture.

So, maybe he is the security guy? What did he say?

>>24484778

>Elaynor.

He corrected your spelling of the character's name. Note that the name isn't twisted up any further than a simple misspelling.

If you don't think he's the security guy, but he COULD be, why would he correct a garbled name? If it was twisted enough to be unrecognizable, it wouldn't be the difference between "Elinor" and "Elaynor." And, in such a case, you wouldn't acknowledge the possibility of it being the security guy--you would KNOW it wasn't, since he wouldn't have successfully decoded the name.

Either you are the OP, and you're making the whole thing up, or you AREN'T the OP, and you're just trying to keep an argument going for the hell of it. Either way, Nigma, I'm onto you.
