When men looked up to the night sky, inside the infinite black sea of the cosmos illuminated by countless stars, one eternal question remained amidst the age.
Are we truly alone out there?

It would have been much better to be left wondering, for the answer came in blood.
Hostiles extra-terrestrial beings landed on the moon and, shortly thereafter they inevitably settled upon our great homeland, Earth right at the height of the Cold War and forever changing the course of history as the almost entirety of the Eurasian continent was lost to the overwhelming enemy.

Amidst the panic of conflicts the acronym BETA, standing for Beings of Extra Terrestrial origin which is Adversary of human race, was provided to name the one great enemy.

But this is old history, as it stand right now humanity is crying out and dying as the fight for earth grows increasingly desperate over the years, amidst an implacable enemy and differing loyalties the tunnel seems bleak and black.

But now, this is nothing more than a short, precious story of love and courage, one that is yours to make and see to its end.

Is there truly such a thing as a first memory? When you rewind the clock as far back as possible, your attempts to identify the images of your childhood are usually met with a foggy painting that doesn’t leave you much in terms of souvenirs beside one single thing that seem to have followed you all your life.

A dream of a vast, unending expense of blue water that either become a pleasant experience as you float on its surface, or a nightmarish trap as you are pulled downward in hellish, unending black depths that squeeze your ribcage and force you awake.

In a way, this may be your oldest memory due to its clarity, you’ve always had trouble sleeping for as long as you lived and blame it entirely on this recurrent dream.

But who are you, exactly?

Ekaterina Zhanna, daughter to Iakov and Agafya Zhanna. This Russian descent looked almost like a lure during your childhood; you see you were never allowed to share any of it and had to go with forged identities, in essence you never really knew what to do with your true name but made sure to obey your parents as best you could.

While you can’t remember any kind of incident before you were 10 years old, numerous odd occurrences lingers during your first years, for example when your mother was lecturing you during homeschool you’d sometime see an abrupt, invading image right in the middle of your train of thoughts.

Colors, soft yet vivid, pinks, pale red, sky blue… numerous time, popping in and out of your mind as if you’d flip a light switch on and off.

Of course, you were told not to worry.

You never stayed in the same city more than a year and moved between countries several times, back then you didn’t know what your parents were thinking, but now the answer is more than obvious.

You were fleeing from something, and that wasn’t the aliens for you moved constantly between safe areas. Canada, America, Mexico, sometime in South America…even Japan, you’ve been around the world, to a point that settling roots in any countries was a complete impossibility.

Now then, this begs some questions…

How did you react to this constant travelling at such a young age?
>[Did you rebel and tried to go outside whenever you could?]
>[Grew increasingly withdrawn, after all what good are friends if you’ll never see them after a few months?]
>[Or perhaps something else?]

What about your parents? After all, staying in one area and trying to make friends of your age is a perfectly normal thing to ask of your benefactors, but that pleasure was denied to you out of necessity, but young minds aren’t so forgiving.
Did you…

>[Resent them?]
>[Accepted their judgements, even if you weren’t told anything]
>[Something else?]

And finally, what about these strange occurrences during your early and late childhood, these images that’d pop in your mind at random interval were quite distracting, but sometime you were able to deduce what your mother and father were about to say, the rare time you’d speak with your peer the amalgam of colors would wield strange images, akin to scenery even if you’d be eavesdropping.

These invasions, what did you think of them?

>[Curious and excited, you’ve got superpowers!]
>[Scared, nobody must know about this, absolutely nobody]

How about a mix between scared and curious; we informed our parents about this phenomenae, but we weren't exactly enthusiastic about it?

Curious, but not overly excited. Possibility calls, but letting others know is likely not wise.

At first you tried to go against your parent’s wish, while not exactly a social person there wasn’t a lot of things to do inside the apartment and you made some quick friends with the other kids in the well-off cities very, very far from the frontlines. Unfortunately, the constant moving took its tolls and you grew increasingly solitary and rather asocial as you lost more and more of your friends, in essence this is a predictable outcome, but you tend to open fast to strangers given the fact that you’ve always had your friendships shattered by circumstances.

>You’ve grown to become quite fond of your solitude, but aren’t afraid to talk to people either, you just never expect any attachments to last.

As for your parents… You knew they loved you very, very much. It was apparent in how deeply they cared for you, but the real proof was with your constant mind probing, the colors that popped was always a pale, strong rose and this is why you grew to accept that lifestyle, but it also made you distant toward, you don’t know if you resent them, or if you simply grew apathetic.

>Despite this mindset, your relationship with your parents is still very warm and precious.

And now, these abilities…

You were scared; you didn’t ask to know what people were thinking about even if it was convenient and the strange look your peer gave when the first time you said ‘’You ate spaghetti last night, right?’’ was almost traumatic, to be labeled out as weird isn’t good at all, after all your parents told you time and again to keep quiet and, from your efficient homeschooling, history showed that your case was unique, to be singled out is scary… especially with the desperation brought by the invaders.

Still, you trusted your parents and once you hit the age of nine you decided to tell them about this.

Thankfully, they didn’t seem surprised, and took you very seriously despite your age. You expected some kind of freak out or maybe a slap, or perhaps a stern order to never speak of this again.

Instead your mother asked you this

This was first turning point of your life.

Your homeschooling left you quite a bit of free time that you spent reading, watching television or trying to pick up the local languages but after this day your mother became a constant companion, while you never knew what she did with your father the few time you asked you were met with a stern wall.
Regardless, your exercises began.

You first started by obeying your mother command and reading her minds, linking colors with emotions, then singling out images efficiently, be it a dog, a turtle, a cat, a Tactical Surface Fighter… these took times and became quite tiresome, leading to the clear impossibility of even trying to make friend but, you gained an unbreakable relation with your parents instead.

This situation continued for two years, the constant moving proved beneficial in this aspect when your training moved to reading perfect strangers and eavesdropping and they’re conversation, these wielded very unique and different images that you can’t exactly remember beside one, single thing.

It was only a flash, but you remember seeing the inside of some machine numerous times…

But that wasn’t the most important thing, around the end of this training, your mother and father took you to a refugee camp with armed escorts, you were told to read the mind of the people there but…

They were so miserable, it was hard to chase the distraction and concentrate on them, the images… first, there was only the color of blood that almost made you sick, however you remember seeing a girl crying and perhaps you were rushed by a brief feeling of sympathy, you decide to read her.
You plucked an incredibly vivid image of a red monstrosity, possessing many limbs and with one, large mouth, a flash of incredible dread and bloodlust that sent you to your knees and forced you to puke out of shock.

What was the emotion that stirred within you?

You never really understood the emotion of hatred until now, you knew it could be represented by red, like anger, or a strange jet black but it was only an afterthought or just something silly like a kid saying they hate broccoli.

But this…

You’ll never be able to forget, even thought you were completely weakened your nails dug into your cheek as you peered forward without seeing anything, pure raw hot hatred filled your entire being and you cried, cried so much that you couldn’t stop this damnable bug...
But it was only a prelude, for after the red one, came an avalanche of images. They snapped in your head in painful succession, hordes and hordes of BETA pouring out of the soil, consuming cities, eating people, crushing TSF and tanks, the sound of the battlefield resonating inside your skulls and the desperate screams all around you gave you a true memory of hell.

After this event, you woke up alone in a secluded room but this was a clear trauma.

You were 12 years old, sitting alone in what appeared to be a secluded hospital room and finally found your true calling. All your life, you were adrift in the world clutching to your parents for safety and guidance, the BETA were always so very far away and even if you didn’t step into the battlefield, what you’ve seen today was truly eye opening.

You hate them so much it’s probably instinctual, but at least now… you’ve probably have the needed motivation to make your true first independent step.

These abilities are a boon, you don’t know where they come from and frankly you don’t care; it’s obvious your parents know quite a bit about it and if they still hide things from you, so be it. This mind reading will help you much more than it could possibly hinder you.

Your mother and father came shortly afterward, your father was a hard man with sharp eyes and quite big and intimidating while your mother was on the short side, but very elegant compared to your papa gruffness.

Since they had your complete and total trust, you decided to inform them of your ambition.

To which your dad replied.

‘’We will still have to run, but I promise to not waste your potential, Ekaterina.’’

Thinking back on it, those words must have been very hard to say for a dad loving his daughter.

They kept their words, even if it took some times.

Times during which you put under so much mental training you’d probably have crumbled under the pressure without your newfound resolve, each exercises was always with your parents there was never anyone else and of course, your moving never stopped, in fact it increased.

You changed countries numerous times in a single year.

Another incident was bound to happen…

A certain spring day, veteran Surface Pilot came to the local city to speak with the population and relight the flames of hopes and of course you attended, and found yourself subjugated by the grand 18 meters tall F-15 Eagles glistening in the moonlight like knights, guardians.

There was no better representation of hope than these giants.

Your dropped guard brought a unique incident when you looked at the pilots, a brief and potent image of someone inside a cockpit maneuvering they’re machines brought you an incredibly headache, one that quickly forced your quick thinking parents to move you out of sight.

After discussing it with them, they came to this conclusion.

You may very well be able to imprint ‘’experiences’’, a strange and definitely unique phenomenon, but in the end they asked you what you wanted, for they loved you very much.

Finally, there was something to aim for.

Constructing your exercises around this ability was the next step and even with your constant, your parents had you slowly try this ‘’imprinting’’.

Your father was apparently a trained pilot, although not exactly great he provided the basis for your abilities while they were busy… preparing something.

Then you moved to several military bases, with strange armed men hounding’s your every steps, it was only a stroke of luck when you overhead your dad and mom talking, you don’t remember the sentence itself but the word ‘’CIA’’ certainly stuck out.

Next, your life on these bases was…much better than your times spent amidst civil and refugees. While nobody of your age was around, every adult you talked to were very friendly, and while some dotted over you most actually looked you in the eyes and listened when you talked, you are probably wrong but… you kind of felt like you were respected in here, but some were also scared, other regretful to see a future soldier so young.

As for your imprinting, you met with several veterans face to face with, of course, your parents flanking you. Your subjects weren’t told anything, but as you combed their minds you came to know many, many stories, all of them of courage, love and loss as they battled against the BETA…

You don’t really remember much about them now, although you did an examination with a stern green haired woman in Japan.

One thing is sure however, your…suckling (as your dad jokingly put it) gave you an affinity.

June 3 2001 American East Coast

‘’Ekaterina, how are you doing today?’’

Your mother speak to you in a low voice just like she always does, the sun is already high up in the air and a quick glance at the clock show you that is already past noon, being home you don’t exactly mind walking around in your pajamas as you furrow around for some much needed food.

Hopefully it’s not the usual junk offered to refugee.

‘’I’m fine mom, didn’t had a dream’’

This was routine, dreaming of this large imaginary ocean always signified an immediate break, and it was also the reason why your biological clock is completely messed up and now…

Well you are 19 years old staying at your parents place.

‘’Me and your dad are going out to buy some groceries? You want to tag along?’’

‘’Nah, I’ll stay here and do…stuff’’

You stretch as you talk, earning a few cracks but your mom nod and immediately head for the door while spinning her keys on her index.

‘’See you later’’

She says as she departs. You never really liked the word ‘’goodbye’’ see you later always sounds better, doesn’t it?

‘’Project Prominence is now well underway and UN officials are already telling the world at large that the future of the Tactical Surface Fighter are well in hands and ready to respond to BETA advance, the population at large has nothing to fear for most of the greatest minds have converged in Alaska to increase humanity fighting chances. In others news, frontlines across Eurasia are showing stability for the time being and…’’

A yawn escape your mouth, you’ve heard of this project and yearn to be in it too, if only to get inside those big robots of doom and swag, hell you’ve resolved yourself to be in one but so far, you can’t say you’ve got something to show for your hard work.

It’s been 1 year now that you’ve stayed in this city and you can’t find yourself to be able to settle roots now that you’ve got the chance, perhaps you’ve gained some wanderlust but you certainly dislike staying put like this, really you really felt like your dreams is all but unreachable lately and you haven’t exactly trained your little talents either.

Although, you do exercises based on your memory but it hasn’t proved very fruitful, this is probably the laziest year you’ve ever had, you spent most of your time reading up on TSF and literature without having much to show for it, it’s probably time you ask your parents about something because…

Well you are certainly growing frustrated and.

Knowing your past, your heart immediately start beating and you swallow awkwardly as you creep closer to the door, the voices from the television sounds strangely far away as you slowly pick up one of your dads golf club, he never really had the chance to use them, but he said that the memories they represented were worth lugging the set around.

Good for you.

Next come the very convenient peephole and you are met with completely black.

Now that’s odd, next you try to use your convenient ability, its severely hampered if you can’t see someone face to face but the distance between you, the door and this unknown person is pretty short, you’d be able to pick up on colors.

You did, several flash of purple, neither bright nor pale, invaded your mind in quick succession.

6 times in fact, this means that there 6 peoples outside your door, each of them in a state of self-control, you’ve seen this purple often on the military bases.

So just to ask, the course of action is to keep the door closed and ask them what they want?
>>
>>24498289
It'll take time, at the least, to get out safely. Let's make a makeshift barricade, quickly and quietly while keeping the conversation going.
"Which friends? You'll have to give me a minute I just walked out of the shower. I wasn't expecting any company, you see. Would you like some tea when you come in? Also, why are you here again?" etc. etc. all while stacking the mattress/bookcase/television against the door.
>>
>>24498327
That would be to noisy i think as long as we have a deadbolt locked on our door it'll take them a good couple of kicks to get in. I say we have our window open and everything ready to go while we stall/figure out what they want.
>>
>>24498371
Do we have any rope or materials to makeshift a softer landing?
I suddenly have a great mental image of surfing out the third story on a mattress trying to catch the clotheslines and balconies, eventually hitting a hill and escaping via sliding mattress high-speed chase.

‘’W-what friends? I don’t remember my parents talking of anything like that, they’d have told we’d be visited too and well...’’

You stop talking and slowly creep backward, still looking at the door while gripping your weapon; you give a look at the closed door leading to the balcony and entertain the idea of actually jumping down on the lower floor but… you’ve never done anything like that, your life was pretty comfortable beside a few incidents, are you really that capable…?

‘’Please, open the door we really don’t have much time.’’

And then flashes of red appear in your mind at uneven interval.

The color of aggression, at least restrained, it wasn’t dripping like bloodlust.

There’s something going on outside, you are likely to be pushing your luck.

Slowly, tentatively you walk to the door and put your hand on lock, not before casting one last glance toward the balcony before shaking your head.

You are no TSF, you can’t hover for soft landing, you’ll simply go splat and that’ll be the end of your story, you always knew you were running from something all of your life but is this really it?
In the background, the man reading the new almost sound like the reaper as you slowly slide the bolt holding your big front door shut, there’s absolutely no way out beside the door that you know off and you’ve lived here for an entire year.

Quite frankly, you are simply much, much too scared to jump.

The sound of the sliding bolt provokes several flashes of blues and then, finally you open the door.

And see something straight out of an action movie.

Men in balaclavas holding SMG with suppressors are lined on the corridor, the one that was knocking seem to still be fidgeting with his headwear, each of them also have pistols and equipped with armors from head to toe and garbed in pure jet black vestments that you don’t remember seeing anywhere.

You aren’t able to feel anything besides pure shock, you barely hear one of them talking about ‘’soft retrieval’’ and something about a ‘’client’’ as your golf club clatter on the floor, of course your mouth hang open as well and you barely see the front man move toward you, fast and grabbing you under his arm and holstering you.

‘’We aint none of them Russians! Just don’t struggle alright!?’’

You are much too disoriented to see anything, the guy is holding you without much problem and all of them are moving fast toward the emergency stairs but to describe exactly what they’re doing is hopeless and panic quickly start to gain on you and you start to struggle.

‘’Clear!’’ One of them screams, and then the man holding you stop as you try to fend him off unsuccessfully, someone behind you is radiating purple, self-control and you overhear.

‘’Sedate her now, she’ll make a fuss in the firefight’’

You don’t have many options, but you can try to struggle to the bitter end, right?

>I don’t want to upset anyone, but jumping down on a balcony for a sheltered 19 years old, even if she IS an esper, is pretty much extremely unlikely and would have required a very high dc, it wouldn’t be good to kill our main character in the first thread now would it?

There’s only one logical thing to do now.

And its struggling like a caged lioness, you immediately start kicking, screaming biting and making an incredible nuisance of yourself once you get your bearings, making your kidnapper job quite frustrating as you see several flash of red, blue, purple and even yellow melding together in an incoherent mess.

‘’Gooood damn she’s feisty!’’

This only motivate you as you add embarrassment on top of fear and anger when you realize you are still in your pajamas, it take another one to holds your legs and then you make sure so cover your neck with your hands as you suspect where they’ll inject this sedative.
‘’CONTACTS’’

One of them scream, following the sound of subsonic rounds exiting his weapons, even so his color his purple but the sudden intrusion was enough to send a crippling fear in your guts, but then images start showing in your minds.

Men falling to rounds, another strangled, another throat silently cut open, sniper aligning his target… cascade of manslaughter after manslaughter animate your limbs with feeling of raw desperations as you realizes these would-be benefactors are actually murderers.

‘’COME ON DO IT’’

And then a needle prick your neck and you are sent into forced unconsciousness.

>You resisted long enough to imprint some of your kidnappers experiences.

You dream of water.

An unending peerless blue ocean that extend to all horizons, all directions, you float nude inside this vast expense of Mother Earth alone, but not cold. It feels warms, comfortable but also…

It’s scary, you know how to swim but not very well and as you realize that you are truly hopelessly alone, you start to panic and paddle pathetically, asking for your mother and father and then…

The predictable happen, something grab your ankle and you are pulled downward into unending abyss.

--

You wake up drenched in sweat with a strong feeling of disorientation and nausea; you realize that you are in a single bed inside a very boring room without furniture’s beside what you are lounging on. You do realize that your room look very metallic instead of what you are used to see, even the door look like one big armor.

There’s absolutely nothing giving you any indication about how much timed passed, do you head outside immediately or stay put?

Tentatively, you put your hand on the metallic handle and stop for a moment, you hear… something outside, there’s some activity going on but it seem like an echo, there’s also something else: the ground seem uneasy, swaying slightly under your feet as if… you were too sick to stand?

You don’t feel too good, but you can still stand on your own somewhat.

Thankfully the door isn’t locked, you open it just enough to peer outside and notice a rather bland, if large hallway and slowly, you open it up fully and then hear a thundering sound coming down the hallway, immediately forcing you inside your room out of fear.

You hear some screams.

‘’I DIDN’T DO IT’’

A young man scared out of his wits, his color is a bright yellow, the color of fear.

‘’ONCE I GET MY HANDS ON YOU I SWEAR YOU WON’T BE LEAKING ANY SPAGHETTIS’’

A strong thunderous voice of fury, needless to say the color of that man is red.

They pass in front of your room like a mirage, both are rather tall muscular men, but one of them is of black skin and built like a minotaur while the others, albeit of military built, was nowhere near his… comrade?

Your train of thought kind of stop.

They both thunder down the hallway in a concert of scream, it take another outside probing to get you out of your reverie.

‘’Aha! You’re awake! You feel good enough to see Victor?’’

Who?

Actually, a girl just put herself in your room, a long haired green eyed blonde is trying to look friendly and relaxed but she’s coming off as awkward, her arms are crossed under her moderate chest and you make sure to not be jealous. You realize that she’s looking very fit, quite a lot of muscle is under that lean silhouette.
Her color is blue, empathy and calm.

What do you do?

It take a few seconds of odd staring for you to get a grip, you’ve never seen anyone like her before and well, after what you just witnessed your brain is probably dangerously approaching a short circuit, combining with how shitty your days has been not a hour after you woke up your patience is dangerously low, as is your emotional threshold.

‘’Who the hell are you and where am I!?’’

The girl wince at your half scream, you tried your best to look intimidating but simply ended up sinking your arms into your arms and try your best not to cry, your jaw snapped shut as you blinked your tears and the blond looked lost as she looked at you, the color of her emotions unchanging but you didn’t care one bit.

‘’Aah…’’

She stammers and you immediately follow.

‘’Where the hell are my parents!?’’

You almost feel like lunging at her, but there’s absolutely no weapon nearby and she’s more than likely able to send you crashing to the floor or put you in a headlock.

‘’Well…’’

She’s uncomfortable, the blue of her emotions growing slightly brighter, the girl look sideway and then back to you.

‘’My name is Alexandrine Mirabelle, despite the situation it’s a pleasure to meet you, really’’

Her English is smooth, but the accent is very thick, you’d exchange your name with her but frankly, you don’t give a damn about appearing amiable.

‘’And well, you’re in the Surface Pilot quarters of the TSM headquarter, I doubt you’ve heard of us but, well, to make it short… you’re in an TSF carrier, but Vic, our boss can really explain things to you.’’

…A carrier?
