Predator Question Ep 7.

You are Three-Claw, a Yautja hunter of the Cloud Viper clan. You have been tasked by your clan Matriarch to embark on a hunt on the world of Fey'lenn, or Pandora, as it is known to humans.

The previous quest thread is archived here:

http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive/24450823/

Upon discovering massive xenomorph activity near your father's last known position, you cleansed the area with a fission torpedo. You are currently speeding away from ground zero of the nuclear explosion.

Your sensors are currently re-calibrating themselves after being hit by the massive EMP shockwave.

Weyland most certainly will send forces to investigate.

Do you:

A. Engage stealth and circle above the area to inspect the aftermath visually.
B. Engage full engines and fly away from the area
>>
>>24502825
Welcome back op! A But only if we can fully verify our stealth systems are at optimum efficiency.
>>
>>24502866
Your stealth systems are currently unaffected and is running optimally, though your sensors will need some time to reach peak performance.

(PS: No worries, I intend to continue this to the bitter end. There might be some gaps as I'm also writing my uni thesis.)
>>
>>24502920
Has WY been observed to be able to pierce Predator Cloaking technology in situations before? I'm worried they'll recognize the blast and realize that there's a predator on world.

You place your ship into a holding pattern and tune your vision mask to scan the ground.

Patches of vegetation remain burning. Husks of mutated black beasts litter the charred ground. You see no signs of movement.

Suddenly you detect a massive rumble coming from beneath the ground. Cracks begin to form in the earth itself. A chasm opens in the ground and from it, a swam of mutated black-beasts pour forth.

They are all burning. They screech with pain, and run for only minutes before collapsing.

As your sensors slowly become calibrated, you notice a massive E/M signature swelling below.

Do you:

A. Fly closer to the chasm and investigate it up close
B. Wait for your sensors to regain optimal performance and do a through scan of the underground.

Why in the FUCK did we launch a nuclear missile against a hive we have no idea about the origin of and/or hive location, on a planet/system covered in hostiles looking for us? Why couldn't we have done this on the way out or at least a bit later? WY is not going to ignore a fucking nuclear explosion, they will be on full lock-down in the conceivable future.

Because people sensed alot of Xenomorphs, got scared and tried to nuke them all in one shot. Which doesn't matter, because to break the hive you have to kill the goddamn queen, and burn the eggs.
>>
How many more torpedoes do we have left?
Also, a reminder: We're not here to cleanse the planet, just here on a fact-finding/scouting mission. Getting information back is the highest priority here. I saw we get a trophy and head back
>>

>>B. Wait for your sensors to regain optimal performance and do a through scan of the underground.

As your sensors recover, you pour more and more power to scan the ground beneath the chasm. The E/M signature grows in magnitude and its bloom overshadows everything around it. Only one type of hard-meat emits something of this magnitude - a Queen. You suddenly wonder whether Weyland would be stupid enough to leave a queen unfettered. You also notice the chasm is continuing to widen.

Your sensors beep to warn you of incoming contacts. Three enormous thermal blooms descend from high orbit. Weyland has sent no less than three destroyers from orbit and they are closing in on your position. You have less than half an hour before they arrive.

You are fairly confident you can remain hidden from Weyland forces, since the residual radiation will play havoc with their less advanced sensors.

Do you:

A. Land your ship in what's left of the now irradiated ruins of the Weyland compound.

B. Fly off to a safe distance.

C. Continue in stealth and hover above the chasm.
>>
>>24503205
We have one more fission torpedo remaining.

Given what the basic Pandoran drone is like, I wouldn't want to tangle with a queen until we are confident with taking down the basic drone.
Also, considering this is Pandora, the queen might not be what we'd expect it to be
>>
>>24503286
And a good hunting ground means plenty of trophies! Seriously, we need some shit to show off besides the FIS teeth, knife, and synthetic head.
>>
>>24503254
>>B. Fly off to a safe distance.

You engage your engines and head away from the area.

As you continue to scan the ground beneath through the chasm, you notice the E/M signature growing stronger. Either that queen is growing in size or it's coming closer to the surface.

More thermal blooms dot your sensor screen. Six wings of small craft, numbering 24 in all, have been launched from ground-side installations and are converging on your location.

Multiple mobile SAM launchers are also moving to lock the area down.

Do you:

A. Continue to engage stealth and lower yourself closer to the ground.
B. Disengage stealth and bring full power to the engines and head for low orbit.
>>
>>24503298

>>A. Continue to engage stealth and lower yourself closer to the ground.

You lower your ship closer to the ground. You are currently at the edge of the blast zone.

You detect massive amounts of comms traffic between the Weyland destroyers. The radiation has forced them to boost their comms power, which makes it easy for you to listen in.

Do you:

A. Attempt to eavesdrop on their comms traffic

You use your sensors to form an interception beam. You detect three separate comms channels and can only intercept one at a time.

Do you intercept:

A. Comms among the 3 destroyers
B. Comms between the lead destroyer and a Weyland's ground-side HQ
C. Comms between the destroyers and the ground-side fighter wings

On a side note, trophies are not directly considered currency but obviously have great importance. What makes for a good trophy? Does it have more to do with the awesomeness of the trophy itself or is it more about the hunt that resulted in the trophy?

>B. Comms between the lead destroyer and a Weyland's ground-side HQ

You tap in to the comms between the lead destroyer and Weyland's ground-side HQ.

Destroyer: ... after the Frigate incident, must have made his way here.
HQ: Forget the intruder. What about the hive?
Destroyer: It's massive. It's MASSIVE. Good lord, why were we not informed about this place?
HQ: Because we didn't know, Commander. We thought all specimens were lost along with Installation 06. You think I want a rogue hive growing unchecked on MY planet?
Destroyer: What about the intruder?
HQ: Deal with the goddamn hive THEN we can worry about the intruder.
Destroyer: Yes sir. I'll need you to authorize the nukes.
HQ: Denied. I want that Queen alive.
Destroyer: Sir, that's going to be difficult.
HQ: Six years of unchecked feral evolution. Six years of assimilating the local wildlife. That specimen is valuable. Bomb the surface and send in your men.
Destroyer: Sir, the casualties...
HQ: Then send in the god-damned native auxiliaries. That's what they're there for.
Destroyer: Yes sir. Right away sir.

The comms channel closes.

Your sensors detect several high frequency sensor nets being deployed all around you. The SAMs have arrived and are setting up.

Further attempts to intercept comms might give away your position.

A host of sensor drones have also been released from orbit. Staying at your current altitude run risks of being discovered.

A. Continue to intercept one of the other channels (DC: Medium-hard)
B. Find a place secure to land your ship.
C. Continue to hover and scan the area (DC: Medium).
D. Move towards the center of the blast zone, where Weyland sensors will be less effective.

You tune your interception beam to one of the other channels. As soon as you fire your beam, however, your sensors flash with sudden activity. Your beam passed through one of the SAM's sensor nets. Your sensors go wild as the sensor net tracks the beam to its originator.

You detect one of the SAMs firing. A volley of sixteen missiles are inbound towards your position.

The coverage of Weyland sensor nets is thorough, but you immediately identify several blindspots.

Do you:

A. Land in the middle of a small crater near the outside of the blast zone, where Weyland sensors cannot penetrate.
B. Land in the irradiated ruins of compound near the center of the blast zone, where your signature will be completely masked by the radiation.

(By the way, the Yautja don't really care about radiation, according to the comics.)

>>A. Land in the middle of a small crater near the outside of the blast zone, where Weyland sensors cannot penetrate.

You land your ship in the middle of a crater near the outer edge of the blast zone. The contours of the depression perfectly masks your ship from sensors.

The dropships have landed. You count eight in all. Their bay doors open and each unloads a small landing force before lifting off back to the destroyer.

The landing force consists of 6 armored vehicles, presumably APCs, twenty two synthetics organized into five fireteams, sixty tall, blue, and angular warriors (which you recognize from your studies to be the sentient natives of the planet), and two large, bulky exosuits, manned by synthetics.

The fighters still loiter overhead, presumably ready to perform fire support.

The landing force arrays themselves around the chasm. From this distance, you can only observe with your ship's sensors. You are too far outside of visual range.

Do you:

A. Continue to observe and watch their movements

>A. Continue to observe and watch their movements

The Weyland expedition continues to approach the chasm. The two exosuits are in front while the APCs trail behind. The native troops seem unsure, but they quickly fall in line when one of the exosuits turn to bear its massive auto-cannon at them.

Suddenly, a loud series of screeching emerges from within the chasm. A swarm of flying drones erupt from the beneath the ground like locusts. They take to the air and one of them immediately claws its way through a Weyland fighter, killing the pilot and bringing it into the ground.

Weyland forces frantically return fire. The three destroyers let loose with their autocannons and hose the air with tracers. Fighters desperately attempt to out-fly the screeching drones.

Two more fighters are brought down by the flying beasts.

You take this time to gauge the fighting prowess of these natives.

They are far stronger than the humans, and seem to be handling themselves adequately even in melee range.

Soon, the flying swarm is whittled down and eradicated, but the Weyland task force has already taken casualties. Two of the APCs were disabled and 7 natives and 2 synthetics were eviscerated.

The taskforce continues, however, and disappears into the chasm. Everything appears to be calm.

>A. Approach the chasm on foot.
You exit the ship and approach the chasm on foot. You carefully sneak your way across the devastated terrain towards the chasm.

The previous battle has created many craters and crevices in the ground as a result of autocannon fire, and you find yourself with no shortage of cover.

The Weyland fighters have already retreated to a safe distance, and the destroyer sensors will not be able to pick up your small signature among the heavy radiation.

As you near the chasm, you hear the sound of a raging firefight within.

Do you:

A. Stay still and use your mask's sensors to listen in to their comms (DC: Medium)
B. Creep up to the chasm to make a visual inspection.

A. Stay still and use your mask's sensors to listen in to their comms (Pass)

You tune your mask's sensors to intercept the taskforce's comms traffic.

Synthetic1: ...up. Reloading. Flush them out.
Na'vi: <screaming frantically in native tongue>
Synthetic2: G10, cover left flank.
Synthetic1: Clear. G4, Take auxillery. Head right.
Na'vi: <frantic chattering in native tongue>
Synthetic3: C1,3, take 2 auxillaries and stay behind and guard the entrance.

The comms chatter continues for a while with nothing of interest. You wait until the main taskforce proceeds out of earshot.

Having studied a synthetic corpse in detail, you have added their vocal signatures to your mask's audio library. You have also isolated comms signatures C1 and C3,

Do you:

A. Black out C3 and C4's comms systems and approach the chasm stealthily
B. Scramble and intercept their comms and imitate false orders (DC: Medium)

How about... "C1, 3, change of plans. Follow behind the main task force and take out stragglers."

>B. Scramble and intercept their comms and imitate false orders (DC: Medium)

You tap into their comms channels with your masks' sensors.

What do you say over their comms?

A: <As Synthetic>: C1, C3, leave the axillaries to guard the entrance and proceed ahead to rendezvous with the main force.
B. <As Synthetic>: C1, C3, take the auxiliaries and exit to the surface. Remain there until further notice.
C. <As Synthetic>: C1, C3, take one auxiliary each and split up. One of you will continue to guard the entrance while the other proceed forward.
D. Leave the comms alone for a moment and play back the recorded Na'vi chattering from the sound projectors on your mask.
E. Other suggestion

>C. <As Synthetic>: C1, C3, take one auxiliary each and split up. One of you will continue to guard the entrance while the other proceed forward.
We can take out the two guarding the entrance for delicious trophies. Also, we should leave the Na'vi mostly whole and bring it back to our ship for dissection.

Honorable hunters are expected to be held at their word when presenting a trophy.

So it mostly becomes "what was it, how hard is it to kill, and what did you kill it with" - A skilled hunter won't take a trophy from something he found way too easy (like nuking a nest), but even a 'less worthy' trophy becomes a 'badass' trophy when you do it naked and without weapons. Wandering into a xenomorph nest with only a claw and killing a queen gets you labeled as an incredible badass.

That's mostly for non-sentients, for sentients it's more of how badass what you're trying to kill is. Arny after the first movie would have been considered an amazing badass - so much so that other preds would be unlikely to even attempt hunting him (because it's disrespectful, he earned his right to live).

A pred will never take credit/trophy from anothers exploits (this is their most embarrasing crime), if its someone elses hunt they have to ask before joining in (if you dont it can lead to honor duels), and they won't ever touch anothers prey (unless its dying in a 'dishonorable' or 'unsportsmanlike' manner, in which case they're only allowed to put it out of its misery, not take trophy).
>>
>>24504726
They don't, but because you dissected that synthetic, you are able to mimic their comms "language".

I think we should plan for the future a bit. There is a network of mobile AA SAM sites nearby.
While the first wayland troops go in (and die) we need to take out one of the AA SAM sites; after we destroy it capture its electronics to decrypt keys so we can hack its friend or foe so we wont be shot down later.
If we can't hack like that then take out all those AA around us. Only then join the hunt.

>Does the Yautja society allow for one male having multiple mates? Perhaps it is, and males don't make use of that because they value their own lives.

Yaujta society is a matriarchy, males are more often than not out hunting... and permanent pairs are very rare things, a skilled hunter may be propositioned by several females and he may eventually have one 'regular' who if another female shows interest in him will fight and lay claim to him, but otherwise it's mostly just short incredibly violent trysts.

Unless you're an *incredibly* skilled hunter, which more or less earns you a voice in the clan despite the fact that you're male, and you may have some choice over mates... you may even be permanently bound to one female (with permission to visit other females if yours allows).

>C. <As Synthetic>: C1, C3, take one auxiliary each and split up. One of you will continue to guard the entrance while the other proceed forward.

You give the imitated order to the synthetics and they react immediately.

You notice C3's signal growing fainter as he leaves.

You engage your cloaking systems and approach the chasm stealthy. You notice the lone synthetic and his Na'vi fighter standing on a narrow ramp directly in front of the chasm. The ramp is the only visible way to enter the chasm from this end.

It will be difficult to proceed without alarming them. Fortunately, now there is only two of them.

B. Attempt to snipe the synthetic with your spear gun. (DC: Medium)

Not quite. The counsel and ruling predators are males, usually very very accomplished hunters.
You can only become a Clan Leader after killing three Queens and then cleaning out a hive of 300 or more aliens with a maximum of two other predators. (Who have to meet the same qualifications)

And then Adjudicators are THE ruling caste of predators, and are always leaders of a clan and have completely no less then 5 hive cleansing.

>>B. Attempt to snipe the synthetic with your spear gun. (Pass)

You take aim at the Synthetic's head with your spear gun. You cross reference his skull with the sectional prints of your autopsy, and aim straight for his cortex processor.

You fire. The spear strikes precisely through the center of his forehead and the resulting force shears the top of its head straight off. White, milky liquid spews forth from the wound and the synthetic collapses to the ground, twitching.

The Na'vi warrior frantically raises his machine gun and begins to spray bullets in your direction. Still cloaked, you silently step outside of his cone of fire.

Soon, the Na'vi's gun clicks empty, and he begins the lengthy reloading process.

Do you:

A. Charge him with your wrist blades and knock him to the ground. (DC: Medium)
B. Charge him with your spear and impale him. (DC: Medium)

Oh, it'll get us all sorts of honor if we bag a queen and clear most of the hive. But normally predator society is all pomp and ritual... If we killed a queen we'd fall into a strange category of predator that exists outside most defined castes, because this was a personal request from the clan matriarch at behest of the huntmaster.

We'd more or less be team fortress 2 engineer of pred society. "I solve problems, not problems like 'why do we hunt', I solve practical problems like 'xenomorph infestation has gone unchecked for 6 years on a planet'".

We wouldn't instantly become clan leader... but yaujta everywhere would be like "so you're telling me, that right after his trials, he bagged a queen and killed several hundred drones... i dun believe'

Not 13, about 10 - they're a foot or two taller than us (we're on the small side though), probably about the same density of muscles, although comparatively they're lighter than us, (we're very heavy and dense for our size, if we scaled up to navi size we'd outweigh them by a good 200lbs)

>A. Receive his charge. (Pass. DC was 10).

You extend your wrist blades and adopt a defensive stance. He thrusts his spear forward at the last second of his charge, but you are prepared for it. You catch the tip with your wrist blade and wrenches it to the side.

The Na'vi twists his torso to match your movement and skilfully regains control of his weapon.

You are now standing face to face, slowly circling each other with deliberate pace.

Do you:

A. Gain the initiative and attack him with your claws. (DC: Medium)
B. Continue on the defence and wait for him to make the first move, then react. (DC: Medium-Easy)
C. Feign quickly to the left and dive forward to grapple him. (DC: Hard)
>>
>>24505350
In terms of physical strength predators and na'vi are roughly equal, predators are dense mother fuckers with a lot of power, na'vi might be more agile but in the end it evens out.

We need to settle this quickly. A greater prize awaits.
>>
>>24505382
Hmm it's hard to tell the scale but most Navi seem to be 1.5 times the height a human. That would put them in the 10-12 foot range. But if their proportions are different with longer legs than humans that would make them a bit shorter. So 10 feet sounds about right.

>>24505440
A looks like the consensus.

Anything that tall is going to be very vulnerable to knee and ankle damage.
>>
>>24505435
Nope 7ft to 9ft at the tallest we are probably 7ft even since we are considered short.
>>
>>24505456
>>A. Gain the initiative and attack him with your claws. (DC: Medium)

You rush forward and bring your left blade forward in an underhand stab. The Na'vi swipes his spear and deflects your blow. With a twist of his wrist, he spins the spear around and smashes you with the other end.

You dodge his blow with some effort, and notice an opening in his defences.

A: Bring your knee up and hit him in his wounded waist. (DC: Medium)
B. Bring both your blades forward and go for the killing blow. (DC: Hard)
C. Grapple his spear following his down swing and attempt to wrest control of it (DC: Medium-hard)

After all this is over we're just gunna be known as "Ded Killy".

Come to think of it, yaujta would probably love to fight orks (aside from that bit where the honor in the hunt is only in hunting those that don't want to be hunted... although I suppose an ork enjoying being 'hunted' would be a little bit different than wanting to be hunted).

>>
>>24505528
>B. Bring both your blades forward and go for the killing blow. (Pass. DC was 17.)

You thrust both blades forward before the Na'vi can ready the spear for a second swing, and bury them into its chest.

The Na'vi screams and slams his head in desperation against you. His forehead makes contact with the top of your head with an audible impact. Your vision swims. The Na'vi slowly backs himself off from your blades.

As your head clears, you see your opponent clutch at his wounded chest in agony. His blood covers your blades.

He raises the spear in one last effort to kill you.

Do you:

A. Grapple the spear from his hands and slice off his head. (DC: Easy)
B. Charge him with your blades again before he can react and bring him to the ground, killing him. (DC: Easy).

>B. Charge him with your blades again before he can react and bring him to the ground, killing him. (Pass.)

You deftly charge forward before he gathers the strength to strike, and bowl your shoulder into his chest. He howls, and collapses to the ground.

With two deft strokes, you once again cleave into his chest. He sputters, twitches, and is still.

You take your combi-stick from his hands, retract it and stow it once more on your back.

Do you:

A. Take his head and attached spine as trophy.
B. Take only his head as trophy
C. Take his tail as trophy

>>A. Take his head and attached spine as trophy.

You deftly carve away his head and spine. You attach your new trophy to your belt.

Now you must decide what to do with the body.

A. Leave it.
B. Give it a quick warrior's burial, and mark it so you know where to find it later.
C. Take time to drag it back to your ship.
D. Stick a mine in the chest cavity and drag it to the entrance of the chasm.

Normally I'd be in favor of an autopsy... but this thing fought well, giving it a warriors burial is a stupid idea even though we respect it, and boobytrapping it is just a jerkass move even if we're a cunning hunter.

I vote leave it, no good comes of b or d... I'm against c due to sentiment.
>>

>>
>>24505781

D and B have no real tangible benefit to them aside from making people aware of us even more so than usual.

I'm against c just on sentiment (we can always just cheese another one and get an autopsy from that one)... leaving it is more than enough

Its dead, we have our trophy

just meat , mine it and move on
>>
>>24505742
C, we will perform SCIENCE! on it.
>>
>>24505807
D is stupid because natives and xenos dont have explosives and wouldnt boobytrap it, as for B nothing on the planet is likely to give a warriors burial to the thing after murdering the fuck out of it. Only real options are A or C.
>>
Rolled 8

>>24505742
A. Leave it; there'll be plenty more to take before we leave this planet.
Also, there is no point in hiding the corpse if we aren't going to take care of the synth as well.

You quickly use your blades to dig through the charred earth and dump the corpose inside. You hastily cover it with some rubble.

I'm well aware what boobytrapping is useful for, but it wouldn't inflict meaningful damage to xenos, and we only eliminated the synth and na'vi out of necessity really, to inflict further casualties on them would undermine our overall objective

>>24505941

woooh woooh man, do you get angry every time expresses a opinion or a view of a situation different than yours

OK, challenge accepted. Remember how there was a syndicate and a Na'vi at the only visible way into the chasm we had. Well we killed them both. The Syndicate we blew his head off the and Na'vi we killed with our blades, and then took his skull and spine. We had did we get in this position, we sent false orders through the synthetic comms, how long do you think it will take for them to figure out the fact orders or the fact one of their own stopped reporting and send a squad to investigate. Thats the situation. Now how can a booby trap work in this situation. Booby traps have a very low casualty rate. It's greatest effect is one that applies stress and slows down enemy moments. Use some imagination and try something interesting instead of being a dick and bitching because someone would rather do something different
