=====

You are Harry James Potter, and you learned three months ago that you are a magus. You've tried learning the basics from your best friend - Illyasviel von Einzbern - but that put you in a coma for most of those three months. You think you'll stick to learning from her father, Kiritsugu, to whom you are apprenticed. Outside of the von Einzberns, you don't really have that many friends. You don't really like most people, and those who do wrong by you and yours you hate with all of your hatred. You've resolved to be a better person than your relatives, and strive to act with compassion towards strangers.

At the present moment, you are in Diagon Alley, pursuing books, supplies, and other Wizarding Goods that may give you an insight into their techniques and culture. You've already purchased your focus - a 14 inch Maple Wand with a core woven of Dryad Heartstrings - and are currently in the Nonfiction Section of Flourish and Blott's, being disappointed by the historical texts. Illya has pointed out their dubious accuracy, from the wild claims of Gilderoy Lockhart to the precise detail regarding events without any witnesses.

Either this wizarding world is far more fantastical than you could have imagined, or the population as a whole cannot muster even an ounce of logic and reason between them.

But at least know a bit more about your parents now.

There are a few sections of the bookstore left to explore, though you probably don't have too much time left to do so. Illya looks perfectly content to continue snarking at the "Swill" while you explore. You...

You had decided that the best thing you could do right now is find Kiritsugu, Irisviel, and Shacklebolt, so that you could leave the store and get on with your trip. You had grabbed Illya's hand and dragged her off of the couch and through the maze of bookshelves, even as she failed miserably at tearing her eyes away from Lockhart's horrid literature. You had assumed that there were certainly more interesting things outside this musty old shop, and that Malfoy's tomes would have covered the basics of what you would want to know.

You had done all of these thing.

And then you see it.

A simple wooden sign, reading "Mundane Fantasy", affixed by magic in midair over the single most French portrait you have ever seen. A black beret, a shirt straight out of "where's Waldo," a pair of obscenely short shorts that don't work with such hairy legs, comically floppy sneakers, and a ray gun straight out of the fifties.

In bright red lettering atop a yellow explosion:

"STARE IN WONDER AT THE POWERS OF SCIENCE
BE IN AWE OF HIS RADICAL REASONING
MARVEL AT THE MIGHT OF HIS MACHINES
IN THE ADVENTURES OF...
~MARTIN MIGGS, THE MAD MUGGLE!~

New comics every Wednesday."

Illya has dropped the "swill," and looks to have stars in her eyes. You...

You try to resist the urge to do precisely what the sign says.

But you fail, miserably. Between the pleading, starry eyed looks that Illya gives you and your inner ten year old demanding that the ray guns and explosions be thoroughly investigated for all possible avenues of amusement, you cannot bring yourself to ignore the campy wonder that is MARTIN MIGGS, THE MAD MUGGLE. The comics section draws you and illya in like the very magnets that he uses to create A DEVICE OF PERPETUAL MOTION to STOP THE MARTIANS from bringing ruin to MAGE AND MUGGLE ALIKE!

Truth be told, had you not already been children in a comic book shop, it would have been an accurate metaphor to say that the two of you were scampering about like children in a comic book store.

The stories aren't all that well written, but for the silly escapism that they were, they were quite amusing. Tales of robots and dryads, of fighting the dark council of evil Wizards calling itself INTERNET, of the mightiest of all machines COMPUTER - it is all quite silly, and quite fun.

You walk out of the section with a copy of the Omnibus, which will set you back 3 galleons, but is totally worth it. Illya comes out burdened by a stack that threatens to topple her over as she walks, mostly the spinoff MADAME MIRANDA MIGGS, THE MUGGLE MATRON - something of a Powergirl to Martin's Superman.

You meet Kiritsugu near the exit - you and Illya had spent a bit too much time in the Bookstore browsing the comics, he had opportunity to leave and grab a few things. Your new books - along with, you presume, Malfoy's gift - are put inside a trunk that is apparently larger on the inside than the out. He gives you and Illya free reign of the Alley, provided you "stay the fu-heck away" from a place called "Knockturn".

He has to look for Irisviel, who apparently has disappeared, looking for a shop to develop some photos...

I don't even care about being Harry Potter, it's just twisted to be a magus who is already linked to Akasha.
Plus there are so many rules about the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception that having it is supposed to be an unbelievably specific ordeal.
Harry at least has a fraction of it down (a death experience, courtesy of Voldemort), but I can't think of any reason for him to have the proper setup for his body to have it.

I could rant for pages about how it shouldn't work. Even the archetypal Mary Sue power of Type-Moon, a Reality Marble, would make more sense than Death Perception. But, I'm not gonna stop people from having fun.

Illya grabs your hand and drags you off into the crowded marketplace, not noticing her father giving you one of his terrifying grins. She's almost jogging, and you get more than a few dirty looks from the crowd as you're pulled halfway into people on your race down the street. As you get closer and closer to the bank, Illya slows down and starts hopping, darting her head about as she tries looking for something.

"Where is it..." she says between jumps. "Where is it? Where the heck is it? I could've sworn I saw it around here somewhere..."

"Illya," you say, "what is -it-? Maybe I can help..."

She gets a bright look in her eyes, and pulls you closer.

"Yeah, you can!" She starts trying to climb up onto your back. "Let me get on your shoulders! I might be able to see it then..."

"What are you talking abou-"

You're cut off by one of her feet hitting you in the face.

"Illya..."

"There!" she responds, trying to twist you around with her legs. "It's that way!"

"Will you please get off of my-"

"Onward!" she declares, to excited to hear your complaints.

You sigh, and carry her in the direction that she was pointing. You contemplate asking her to act her age, but then it hits you that it's perfectly permissible for children to be childish. The place that she was searching for, it turns out, was an ice-cream parlour called "Fortesque's." You're greeted by an old gentleman with proud and waxed mustachios, who promptly declares that you and "the little angel" can have your first round on the house, because you're Harry Potter.

Apparently, your parents being dead has some perks. You open up the menu and pick...

It's been forever since I played Tsukihime, and haven't read the KnK books, just watched the anime (which I have been told does it justice). As far as I'm aware of, the only absolute requirements to possess the MEoDP is to have an understanding of death beyond what most mortals possess.

Harry's origin is Death in this. I would think he qualifies?

Also, bear in mind that Voldemort, on a scale of 1 to 10, is fucking horrifying, and won't be a "loldotstab" victim due to his own knowledge of his origin.

It requires the body or soul to have the predisposition to receive the power, and then the body has to die. (Not nearly die, not get severely injured, straight up die.)
Ryougi Shiki had two souls, and one of her souls died. This was her predisposition: when one soul perished, she was able to gaze into the Void that filled the space where it was. As she drifted in the Void (Akasha) for two years, she became able to recognize the links all things have to it (death).
Nanaya Shiki's predisposition was the Pure Eyes of the Nanaya clan, which originally allowed him to "perceive the unnatural". It mutated to Death Perception when he was slain by Tohno SHIKI and revived by Tohno Akiha's life force.

>Harry's origin is Death in this. I would think he qualifies?

To have "Death" as one's origin means one would never live. The Origin defines all of a person's existence, an origin so contrary to existing would never allow for a living being. Beyond that, it wouldn't really classify as a predisposition, not really.

>Also, bear in mind that Voldemort, on a scale of 1 to 10, is fucking horrifying, and won't be a "loldotstab" victim due to his own knowledge of his origin.

I never thought it was overpowered. It's not really that excellent as an ability.

>>24574495

Roa's Life Perception came from Tohno SHIKI, it had absolutely nothing to do with his relationship to Tohno (née Nanaya) Shiki. Roa was an asshat and didn't know the capabilities of his own host.

Illya holds hard and fast to a noble and most ancient rule of they whom are conesseiurs of Ice Cream - that there are but three true flavors in all the world, and that of these noble three flavors, chocolate holds itself king. She orders a "Double Scoop" of chocolate, and is rewarded with a cone nearly the size of her head. You choose to be a bit more adventurous than her, and innocently order the Bertie Botts' Special without the slightest clue in the world what it is.

"Vanilla with Jelly Beans?" Illya asks, as the two of you stroll outside to find a table with an umbrella. "What's so special about that?"

"I dunno, Illya," you respond, staring intently at the cone. "But whatever the heck is in it is... interesting."

And that's no half truth. The lines of death on this icecream cone are moving in the most bizarre an psychadelic of ways, like one of those plasma balls before you stick your hands on it. The lines are, compared to the relative stillness of those around it, practically dancing about the cone, constantly shifting in color and magnitude and shape, staying the same for no more than a minute.

"What do you mean, interesting?"

"The way it looks," you respond. "To my eyes, I mean. It's like the way health class taught us 'acid trips' were, only..."

You frown.

Illya gags.

"Could we not talk about that while we're eating?" she begs.

"Right," you say. "I don't get why you're making such a big deal out of it, though..."

"You'll see," she assures you.

You take a bite of your ice cream, and...

It might be possible for Harry to have Death as an origin as he's connected to Voldy in a double-strong way - One, he's actually one of the things keeping big V alive, and two, because he was connected as V died - So, we have an alternate method of the way Ryougi got it, with the Shiki/SHIKI situation tossed in for kicks.
I suppose it might make more sense if Harry had the eyes of Life and Voldemort had the eyes of death as he's the one actually died, but that ability wasn't as well chronicled as the Eyes of Death so it's easier for our protagonist to have them.
Also, we're in yet another alternate reality, one made when Saber got her actual wish and a bunch of other shenanigans happened.

You know, I'm not even sure why I put some of that in spoilers - most of it is already known in character (other than Voldemort being horrifyingly horrifying). And sorry for using shorthand there, I forgot how fucking important wording was in the Nasuverse even though I made a point of how fucking important wording was in the Nasuverse during the Kerry threads.

Harry's precise origin, as discovered when Illya made him aware of it, is "The Death of Things," not "Death".

That's.. a very strange origin. Origins usually take the form of verbs or adjectives, as they're a concept rather than an item.
In all honesty, that kind of origin would probably make Harry a psychopath (or at least, very unhappy) as everything he does, basically, would ultimately defined by something dying.

I would greenlight it as a better predisposition to have the Eyes, though, as it means being closer to the concept of seeing where the destruction contained in all things is located if all your existence is based around enacting that destruction.

Thumbs up.

>In all honesty, that kind of origin would probably make Harry a psychopath (or at least, very unhappy) as everything he does, basically, would ultimately defined by something dying.

Given Harry's defining traits in this quest are Spiteful and Compassion I could see it working out somehow. If we can just channel our actions so that the things dying are things the world would be better off without or something.
>>
>>24574828
From what you've said, I'd think a better time for him to gain the eyes would be after Voldemort kills him in the Forbidden Forest, since he both loses Voldemort's soul and sees what might actually be the Root (King's Cross Station Afterlife) depending on your point of view.
This is more fun, though.
I still wish our origin had been Space, instead. That would have been the best.

[SUCCESS!]

"Holy moly, this is pretty good," you tell Illya through a bite of the Ice Cream. "It's like there's a rainbow in my mouth made of all the fruits known to man and several dozen that aren't. This is fantastic!"

"Heretic..." Illya mutters through a lick of her chocolate.

"I'm sorry," you say, "what was that?"

"C-can I have a bite?"

You're not quite sure why you find the shade of pink that she turns to be as adorable as you find it, but you find the shade of pink that she turns to be completely adorable. You smile one of the happiest smiles you've ever smiled, and hold out your icecream to Illya, who takes a greedy chomp. She chews on it for a moment, her inquisitive expression slowly changing to...

Horror?

"Harry, you liar!" she squeals, half coughing out the icecream. "That was horrible! Boogers... boogers, earwax, and sweaty socks! Disgusting!"

"But," you stammer, "I... it wasn't..."

"You're horrible," she pouts. "And that means I get to decide where we're going next, and we're going to..."

"...going clothes shopping!" she declares, with a most sinister grin.

You blink.

"Illya, have you seen what these people wear?" you hesitate to ask. "Its hardly the sort of thing that you'd want to go out in public wearing - its all garish and frilly and from about two or three centuries ago."

Illya's smile gets happier with each word.

"No, you shouldn't..." you start. "Illya those aren't good things!"

"They are to me!" she chirps, grabbing your arm and skipping off with you in tow. "Lacey frills and bright colors are what ever girl wants to wear, and are the two things that fashion skips out on in this day and age. Plus, older clothes are perfect - revealing not even the slightest bit of skin and being elegant about matters that only -filthy perverts- think are good."

"What are you talking abou-"

She cuts you off, something that seems to be a habbit of hers of late.

"You'll find out on Monday," she hisses. "Mon-day, and not from me. Ew. Gross. Ick. Et cetera. Et cetera.

"Fine, fine," you relent. "But do you even know what stores..."

You stop your train of thought as she drags you into a store filled with rows upon rows of robes - black, gold, green, all colors, in hues subtle and bright, and sometimes even plaid. You wonder for a moment how she knew this store existed, and dread the thought that pops into your mind as an answer. There's no way that girls have an instinctive knowledge of where the clothiers are, is there?

"Here for your Hogwarts robes, dearies?" a kind, matronly voice asks. "Just hold a minute..."

"Uh, well, actually, I'm not..." you aren't quite sure what to say - you know that it has been all but decreed that you'll be going to Hogwarts come its next semester - that was part of the deal made for the von Einzberns to take custody of you. But... it'll be another half a year until you'll actually be going there, and you're a growing boy - what if you don't fit into the robes you get.

"Harry!" Illya cheers. "Hows this dress look! Isn't it so~ pretty."

It's white. Trimmed with gold. Fanciful, frilly, just the exact sort of thing you know Illya loves. And the exact same dress that she was wearing during that dream you had three months ago - the one with the cup, and Gandalf with the Vampire. The dress that she had been slowly bleeding out with, even as the cup slowly bled the life out of her. Well, perhaps not the exact dress, but the resemblance is uncanny.

You kind of lose your cool.

"Why yes!" you say, "Yes, Madame, we are here to pick up our school robes early, thank you! Illya, why don't you put that dress back where you found it and never speak of it agai- I mean, get into the chair so your measurements can be taken for your school robes, how about that?"

Illya tilts her head at you.

"Harry, are you okay?" she asks.

"Yes I am fine," you say, getting in one of the open chairs, next to a tall redheaded fellow with a - shark tooth? - in one of his ears. "I am jussssst peachy. Absolutely A-okay."

Illya shrugs, and takes the dress back to where it was. The redheaded fellow turns to you.

"No offense, kid," he says, "But you don't seem all that fine. Prophetic dream? Or just don't want to offend your girlfriend"

You stare at the man in nothing short of shock. "How'd you know?"

"What, that she was your girlfriend?" he chuckles, "Oh, well that was fairly obvious, kid - the way she was dragging you around, it was that or a little sister, and the two of you look nothing alike."

You open your mouth.

You close it.

You open it again.

"Ah... not what..." you stammer out, trying your hardest not to turn that pink that Illya did earlier, and probably failing. "Not what I meant. I meant, how'd you know about the phophetic dream."

It's the older fellow's turn to blink dumbfoundedly.

"Huh," he says. "That was more of a joke than anything else. I figured you were just colorblind or something. But really, it's nothing to worry about - divination at the best of times doesn't always mean what you think it does. And..." he leans in conspiratorially. "This is a bit of a secret, but a new tomb Gringotts found out in Egypt has revealed some new insight on the nature of Divination..."

"What do you mean?" you ask.

"Well, I was a part of the expedition, so I can tell you..." He's practically giddy no. "And, well, this might be a bit heavy for a kid your age - God knows my little brothers thought it a snorefest, but what it boils down to is that Reality is one big Kaleidoscope, and that's what makes divination so shoddy." He nods. "Half the time, when we're seeing prophecy, we're seeing it for a world just a slight twist off of our own..."

"Sorry, what?" you say, not comprehending a word of that. If you're lucky, you may be on the verge of obtaining an info dump, allowing you new and more complete insights into the nature of the Wizarding World's magic. "Would you mind explaining that just a bit more simply?"

Alas, it is not to be. Infodumps are an anathema in this world - knowledge must be obtained offscreen, where none can observe the dispersement of new and exciting information dryly delivered through the mouths of characters. For you see, Bill Weasley is a busy man in a laid back family, always prone to overbooking his time, leaving him wanting to accomplish far more things than he feasibly can in the allotment given to him. And so, upon the precipice of new knowledge, it is snatched away by the vagaries of poor time management.

"Sure!" The older fellow seems almost excited to explain the new trade. "You see, the first thing you need to know about divination, at least according to the ancient egyptian Wizard named Zelretch, is that reality is infinite, and that there are an infinite number of realities for each of the infinite possible choices that can ever be made, though some infinities are smaller than others."

He pauses for a quick breath.

"Now, what this has to do with divination, especially something as imprecise as a prophetic dream is..."

He's interrupted by a buzzer going off in his coat. He reaches in, and pulls out a glass orb that glows red in the palm of his hand, and is now vibrating.

"Christ on a cracker," he mutters, "Sorry kid, but I've got to cut this short. Madam Malkin!" He waves to the back of the shop. "I'll need three of the dracovests for the next expedition; the last two got pulverized by the curses down in egypt!"

The matron lady walks in as he leaves, muttering about inconsiderate customers. Illya, who looks put out, sits next to you, pouting. You...

"'S alright, Harry," she mumbles, barely audible.

"A different dress," you barely hear.

"W-what?" you ask.

"Why does it have to be a different dress..." she pouts. "I liked that one - it was all frilly and white and gold, and just about perfect in every way, shape, and form... why does it have to a different dress?"

"It doesn't have to be..."

"Well I don't care, Mr. Potter," she growls. "I don't care that my..."

You cut her off, frustrated that you have no idea what she's on about.

"Illya, you're going to die in that dress!" you say. "Or a dress like it..."

The wind visibly deflates from the sails of Illya's indignation.

"What?" she asks, a bit more hesitant, a bit less angry.

"I had some sort of weird freaky vision thing going on a while back," you say, "before the whole coma thing had happened. I had meant to ask you the day we decided to unlock my origin, since it involves something like that cup you talked about." You shudder. "It was weird... and terrifying. You were being... eaten by the cup, trying to tell me something. And then Professor Zelretch was talking with Gandalf, and Gandalf said he was a vampire..."

"This is what had you worried," Illya frowns.

"Well, the resemblence is uncanny!" you say. "And that redheaded fellow said it might have been a prophetic dream! So I'm totally justified..."

You balk under the weight of her gaze, and...

But he just had that lecture about how most prophecies are just reflected from another reality.

Harry discovered he was a wizard, his best friend was a wizard, and that he's some sort of celebrity.

He's totally gullible about this.

I'm having visions of Wizard Grognards.

"This new Wireless expansion is bullshit! it was bad enough when the came up with the Modem edition, and all the shit with Connection Speed rules, but now THIS shit. Screw it, this game was better back in the days of Telephones and Switchboxes"

But MTG legitimately WAS better in the old days.
At least the fluff was.

You enact the battles of mighty muggle Scientists known as magicians, by using Infrastructure cards to invent various contraptions.

It's not just a MtG thing. I've heard people bitching about Yu-Gi-Oh, Digimon and Pokemon using the same sorts of arguments.

Gamer Nerds are gonna bitch about changes to their beloved games, no matter the kind.

I'm kind of curious about this dream thing, actually. Do Prophetic Dreams mean something important in HP? It's been years since I read it.
>>
>>24577859

Somewhat. The entire concept of Diviniation is oretty much treated as a joke, but one of the characters has two legit prophetic dreams, both of which are massively influential.

Yu-Gi-Oh has had way too much feature-creep over the years.

Seers exist in HP, and they're crucially important to the setting as a whole, but the only prophecies seen involve the seer going into a trance and calling out their prophecy to anyone in the vicinity. Dreams were uninvolved.
>>
Actual Seers are in high demand. Good ones can remember the reading. Only the really powerful ones can see heir own. He's seeing events that affect him. Starting points for incidents down the road.

Sorry I missed the thread guys, my shitty week, it continues.

I'm sharing an epiphany. The prophecy says that we are the “Dark Lord's” equal. But how is that so? Power takes many forms, remember? They don't have to be your literal “dark mirror” to equal you. Furthermore, the timeline of this quest fits in most all the Nasuverse canon. So there could be more users of the Eyes than just us. Hell, Mikiya Kokuto gets sent around by Touko for investigations. He might end up at Hogwart's front doorstep randomly. He got through her bounded field, he can get through the mindfuckery of Hogwarts.

I'm not sure how far into crossover clusterfuck mode this quest is going to go, but there's all kinds of ways it logically could. Vold's on the hunt for bros, there are a lot of people who'd work with him nasuverse side. Hell, so long as a magus gets what they want they'll do next to anything.

>there could be more users of the Eyes than just us
Nope.
Only one person can have the Mystic Eyes of Death Perception.
>>
>>24578195
Nasu only said that the likelihood of that ever happening was so low that it might as well be considered impossible.

It's possible, but it ain't bloody likely. This does not mean there can be only one, only that there will probably only ever be one user at any given time.
>>
>>24578219
It may as well not be possible.
However, there are far more types of Mystic Eyes than just Death, just about everyone in Tsukihime had SOME kind of Mystic Eyes power. Usually paralysis and stuff.
>>
>>24578195
Question, Is Akasha, the root, for the entire Nasu multiverse or is there a root for each parallel world? If it's the latter, then I'm pretty sure both Tohno and Ryougi might have the eyes.

>But then you see the cracks. The cracks that are not meant to be seen by mortal eyes. You see them, and through them you see what lies on the other side - the death of things. The nothingness that cannot quite be understood. You see what seems to be a brother and sister - a young boy no older than you, a young woman in a red leather jacket.
>Both smile and motion for you to join them. Your soul sings out a single word - brethren.

Then again, if Ryougi's and Tohno's origins remain constant across all parallel world, including ones where they didn't get the eyes, what Harry saw meant nothing other than showing him who -could- have gotten the eyes if he didn't.
>>
>>24578446
Akasha is the root of all things, even parallel worlds. Thing is, Akasha is itself a kind of paradox. It is everything, and it is nothing. It is the nothing that contains everything. Every life, every possibility. It is the place to which a soul returns after "death".

This is why you have to die to get the eyes. You only really see it for an instant before you merge with it again, as all life can be seen as a concept that broke off from its source and incarnated into the world (that what an origin is, a concept from Akasha). It is possible that there could be more than one user in a given world because of the notion "All Possible Worlds", but out of them, only a comparatively small number would have multiple users. Like I said, it's possible, just not very likely.

Dammit now we have to wait another week for more.
