Noticed most of the other quests were winding down a bit, and thought I'd experiment with a later start time.

~~~~~~
Your house is so damn nice now. There's hardwood floors, plenty of well made furniture, and this world's first running bath. If you had to guess at the nature of your baller status, you would have to conclude that it would be confirmed. You stretch as you rise, admiring all the fresh new things. Your house still smells like the various woods used in it's construction yesterday. You had no idea a village could slap together a house in a day, but apparently many hands made light work. You sneeze. You've got a cold, you think. You're a bit stuffy, which is probably understandable given the conditions you were suffering from only two days ago. You shudder to remember the storm that almost claimed you like a dog in the mud.
You wonder where the girls are, idly. Your crops were all but destroyed, and there's only enough time left in Autumn to plant a few saplings. Perhaps they're in the barn.
Your mind drifts to other matters. Relics are becoming an increasingly clear objective. They saved your life more than once, and Daliah believes she can resurrect her dead mother if you collect em all. You wonder if there's a freudian allegory there, but pass on it. Sometimes a girl with mild autism and a murder fetish is just a cigar.
You rustle through your belongings in a desk drawer, and come across the dusty journal you found in the ashes of Old Bounty.
The front inside page reads "Property of Rezna of Bounty Village, DO NOT READ! THIS MEANS YOU!"
You snicker a bit, expecting childish tales of daily farm life. You turn the page, and read on.
"Mother bought me this diary, but what I really wanted was a pony. She said I needed to work on my letters, but I think we're just poor."
"Another hot day, I hate this village, seriously."
This is kind of boring, you skip forward about halfway.
"Daliah and I had a lot of fun playing in the river today, we chased fish, and looked for treasure. She's my best friend!"
Oh, now this IS interesting. This Rezna and Daliah knew each other. Might be worth mentioning the diary to her later. You flip forward a bit again. The pages are smattered with a dark brown liquid, long dried.
"______ worked! I just _______ and the bird died! It was such an annoying bird, always ______. My hand hurts though, I wish I didn't need to ______ to use_____"
Oh shit. You rush off to find Daliah.
~~~~~

You find your wives in the barn, Melissa is happily tending to the sheep, and Daliah is perched on a stool, reading a book, making occasional conversation.

We'll give it to her after talking about the storm.

Yeah, old books with dried blood and ramblings about dead birds would be a poor segue into the weather.

But then again, I am morbidly curious...

"Hey ladies, top of the morning."

They turn to you, and smile. Melissa waves, before turning back to tend to the animals.

You make small talk for a while, but something's been bothering you.

"Hey, Daliah?"

She doesn't look up from her book. "Mmm?"

"What was up with that storm the other day? I've seen some storms, but that was...different. It felt malevolent, for lack of a better word."

Daliah glances sidelong at you. "You felt that too, hmm? Yes, there was something to it."

She's not really giving you an answer, so you change tack. "I wish I knew someone wise enough to tell me what was going on, it's all over my empty head!" Melissa laughs melodically from the other side of the barn, and Daliah throws a small stone at you.

"You really want to know? Fine. I can't be sure, obviously, but considering the effort Melissa had to put into Providence to save you, I'd guess that it had something to do with one of the relics."

You stare at her. "There's a relic that creates hurricanes? That's insane!" But Daliah holds up a finger. "No, husband. There is no weather controlling relic, surprisingly. But...."

"But....?"

"My book makes reference to a Relic that uses blood magic to work it's ways. A small medallion, inscribed with the phrase, 'Sacrifice brings Results'. Blood magic is powerful stuff, as your aware, though tainted. To me, that storm felt the same."

You feel like this is a good time to hand over the journal. "Daliah, I'm sorry I didn't give this to you earlier, but I found this in a chest with your teddy bear in Old Bounty. We just got busy and I forgot about it." Daliah snatches the journal from your hand, and stares at it. "Keith..."

You sit down, this is going to be a while, you think. As you sit, Daliah's cat jumps into your lap, expecting attention. You stroke it absentmindedly as you watch Daliah read the diary.
>>
>>24719574

>BOC

Muh nigga, and it fits in both name and theme.
>>
Time passes as Daliah pores over the pages intensely. Tears fall from her eyes, though she does not sob or wail. She moves only to turn a page, softly. As she reaches the end of the journal her eyes narrow, and in a sudden fit, she stands and throws the book against the far wall hard enough to dash the diary into pieces.

You look for an easy way out, but the cat refuses to move from your lap, digging it's claws into you as you attempt to shift it. Melissa straightens from her work, and looks wide eyed at Daliah's pacing form.

She holds her head in both hands as she walks back and forth in straight lines. "I should have KNOWN! I should have FELT IT! It was so OBVIOUS!" She begins screaming to the point that her voice cracks. Daliah moves to the wall of the barn and begins pounding on it. Sawdust falls from the rafters as she does. This is worrisome.

"Daliah, what-" is all you manage before she turns to face you. Her visage is a tortured mask of emotions, but the one most visible is pain. "Shut UP! Don't try to calm me down, you don't understand anything!"

You want to help, but you're not sure what to say.

Relics tend to have the ability to corrupt. In this state it's not unreasonable to suppose Daliah might kill you with a draw, and only feel remorse as you died. If you need to smack a woman around, Melissa is much less physically dangerous. Not advocating that, mind you.

"Daliah, please. Just calm down. We just had this barn built, it makes no sense to go knocking it down!" Your attempt of humour slides over her like oil on water.

"Okay, so, I read a bit of it before I gave it to you, and from your reaction, I'm guessing that your friend had the Blood Medallion? Why does that bother you so much?"

Daliah focuses very hard on your face, and speaks with measured effort.

"I watched my best friend change in front of my eyes. She was a good girl, and then she wasn't. It was slow at first, but then faster. If you'd read the whole book you would have had a better picture of this. I should have seen it even back then. The corruption is so clear now." Daliah's shoulders slump a bit, and you spring forward to catch her as she falls.

"There there, you were ten years old, how can you expect so much of yourself? Let's focus, maybe your friend is still alive. Maybe we can find her, and help her!"

Daliah laughs, a sad, bitter noise.

"Keith, the medallion corrupted her in weeks, if she's still alive, and if she still has it, she's not going to be a good person anymore, if she is even still a person."

You're not sure what to say, but thankfully Melissa is there with you.

"Well then, it seems to me that we need to find this girl and kill her, for the safety of the village."

"Yeah, that's right, wait, what?"

Melissa said her piece so calmly you just went with it, but when it processes you're boggled.

"Melissa, what are you saying?"

"I'm saying that we were lucky once, and may not be again. Who's to say I can protect you next time a storm comes this way? We need to retrieve that relic, it's too dangerous to have in the wrong hands."

Her words make sense, but you think it over...

If we don't, then she'll destroy the saplings with another storm, one we can't afford to suffer through.

Dammit, I just wanted to farm and tech up.
>>
You shake your head. You realize everyone's just assuming the storm was caused by some crazy blood relic, there's no real proof for that.

"You know what? I think we'll be fine right here. I'm going in to town to buy some trees, you girls just keep doing what you're doing. It'll be fine, you'll see."

You give them a brave looking smile and wave yourself away.

~~~~
The road into town is still muddy, and so going is a little slow. You figure a few apple trees would be a solid investment. You can sell the apples, or make cider, or applejack if you're feeling saucy. With that in mind, you happily make your way to the seed shop.
"Hello there, Keith! Here for some trees?" The shopkeep guesses your mind instantly, he's a shrewd fellow. "That's right, nothing gets by you. Have you got any apple trees? Preferably the ones that produce the large green apples. I prefer the sour taste, myself." The shopkeep smiles, and nods. "Yes yes, the only question is how many do you want?"
You have room for four trees, currently, how many do you want to buy?
>>
>>24720431
4, we can expand the farm later to add more if we want some other kind.
>>
>>24720431
Buy 2.
We can plant other types in the remaining 2 spots.
>>
>>24720431
Ask about other trees, cause options are always nice.
>>
>>24720431
We should get a wide selection as possible.
While many people would find the taste of sour apples unappealing, they're very useful in the creation of Cider, which tends to be a blend of many fruits.
Ideally we should get some different varities of apples for cooking, cider and for eating fresh.
For apples ment to be eaten raw, I myself prefer Ambrosia Apples which are crisp, sweet, and mild. I think they're also restant to browning, which is kinda a turnoff for cooking though.
>>
"I'll take two apple trees, for now. Give me a couple of fig trees too, if you have any. I have some ideas in mind for them."
He seems surprised, but he heads through the back door to the arboretum, and then returns with one sapling at a time. You didn't consider how much they'd weigh. Looks like you're spending your whole day shuttling trees back and forth to your farm.
~~~~~~

You really consider investing in a cart at some point, you're getting awfully bored of that road. As you finally lug the last sapling home, you slump to the ground, exhausted. They weigh fifty pounds a piece, easily, which doesn't sound like much until you realize you can only carry them in a few ways without risking damage. You did a good job though, and you're pleased that the autumn isn't a total write off, farm wise.

~~~~
It's late, and you retire to your home after you put your tools away. You head into the bath, and find Melissa already soaking. You strip down yourself and join her happily. She beckons you to sit in front of her, and begins massaging your shoulders and neck.
"It feels like you've had a long day, husband. I bet you're glad you got those trees though."
You make a non-committal noise, you love her massages. "Melissa, do you think I made the right choice by ignoring the storm? You seemed pretty sure of yourself."
Melissa pauses in her massage, but renews it when you wiggle your shoulders.
"I trust in you husband, if you think something, you have good reasons for it."
"Logically it seems unlikely that she'd suddenly start doing this after it's been so long. If it's based on blood sacrifice I doubt she'll be able to do anything of that magnitude again any time soon even it it was her.
So it doesn't seem likely that anything is going to happen, but I can't shake the feeling that something might happen."
>>
"Well, if you trust me...Can you trust me that I've got other parts that are sore?"
Turn around, and let her tend to all of our needs.
>>
>>24720660
Melissa nods behind you, you feel the water move on your back.
"Yes, you're right. One one hand, if we go looking for her, we risk wasting a winter of farming. On the other hand, if we don't go, the possibility exists that she kills us all in our sleep. That is, if she exists still, or is that powerful. Too many variables for your simple wife, dear husband."
"Lets give it a couple days of thought, at least."
>>
"I hate getting decisions like this. It's a risk to leave her out there, and probably a kindness to her former self to kill her off.
We should probably witch-hunt her, depending on how long we think it'll take we might be able to get a tree or two planted as well.
>>
>>24720708
"You are anything but simple, Melissa. That was a good summary of our situation, and none of us know the other variables.
For now, let's get some trees planted, and then we'll see if this Rezna is truly beyond redemption."
>>
>>24720735
You feel Melissa nod again.
"That makes sense, husband. We should definitely wait for a sign of some kind. But what kind of sign are we looking for? Perhaps the river will dry up, or the animals will all die, suddenly. Either way, I agree with you husband, we can't let a storm that almost killed us all get us all riled up into any sort of action."
Your massage intensifies some more. You're beginning to sense some moderately well hidden hostility.
>>
>>24720861
I'm opposing it on principle. Just SAY, "Please reconsider." Then I'd be all kinds of down for that.
But for God's sakes, putting some saplings in the ground doesn't mean we can never ever ever possibly settle Rezna's childhood friendship angst.
>>
>>24720832
Except, you know, both of those advocate doing nothing towards searching for Rezna for several days, during which she could get another blood sacrifice.
Because the blood doesn't have to be hers, so long as it flows.
>>
Melissa pauses again.
"I want to be a good wife to you, I do not wish to make decisions for you, or dominate you. Daliah sometimes does that, but you understand her. She loves you as I do. But sometimes, you really are a stubborn man. If you are not careful with your own life, I may have to be careful with it for you. Do you understand? Your life itself is more precious to me than your belief in your own correctness. Daliah and I have agreed to leave at dawn in the direction the storm came from, you may stay and farm. We will return as soon as we can, to let you know what we find."
With that, Melissa gives you a final squeeze, and exits the bath. You hate to see her go, but you love to watch her leave.
Yeah, if you want them to go solo, I'm just gonna roll 1d100 for success. For example...
>>
>>24721202
Daliah IS a sword master, it's not like the girls would be helpless without the calming presence of a Y chromosome.
>>
Rolled 28
>>24721217
In this case, they don't get the bonus for the three of you being present, and of course you don't get the bonus you normally receive in all interactions with Daliah, so they fail.
Not critically, but only one of them returns. I'd roll for that, too.
>>
>>24721246
Whoa, seriously?
I didn't realize our wives needed us that badly. I guess if they have worse than 50/50 odds, we don't really have a choice.
>>
>>24721246
And that's exactly the kind of reason we're going with them. Because if they're going to risk their lives, we're going to be right there beside them.
>>
>>24721246
Staying at the farm would be rather out of character for Keith, and against everything we have promised so far.
Lets just kill the witch with our wives and skip to spring. This split is causing far to much russling.
>>
>>24721246
...I thought better of our wives.
>>
Okay, a surprisingly divisive decision we've made. Probably a wise one though.
~~~~~

You sigh to yourself, and lean back against the rim of the bath. These girls are relentless. You debate just letting them go alone, they're damn tough, more resourceful than you by far, you're not even sure why you'd go with them, really. They seem to be capable of looking out for themselves. For a moment, you leave it up to chance, but then you slap yourself lightly. These are your wives, man. What earthly crop or possession could be worth endangering them?

You vow to leave with them in the morning, and you're going to be useful, dammit!

~~~~~~~
It's way late here guys, thread end. I apologize for the shortened adventure, I'll be starting the next one earlier, around 10:30 pm EST. Tomorrow or the next day.
Feel free to discuss tomorrow in advance though, I always like reading the comments.
Sow is also a corrupting sword of bloodlust and combat, and is likely to lead to her killing Melissah as well.
>>
>>24721297
Thanks for the apples and figs, HG.
And thanks for the quest.
>>
Let's hope the witch is quick and easy to find.
>>
>>24721295
>>24721262
I'm sorry, I gave a blood witch with ten years experience and the power to cause megastorms, on her home turf a higher difficulty rating than 50/50.
>>
>>24721314
I won't drag it out for more than one thread, I swear. I want to balance farming with adventure, but seriously, winter is coming.
>>
>>24721316
No, no, you're perfectly within your rights.
Those two just did not think things through, and when people don't think things through, they go full retard. And when that happens, you should hurt them. And go on hurting them.
>>
>>24721327
Hey, speaking of which, there's a glazier in town...how about a greenhouse/hothouse?
>>
>>24721316
So, the storm is confirmed to be from the witch.
>>
>>24721339
It's very doable, in theory. Probably also very expensive. If you really want one, we'll get to it, but I sort of want to keep winter for questing, and the other seasons for more hard farming, with a light quest here or there.
>>
>>24721365
Your wives think it is.
Are you smarter than your wives?
>>
>>24721316
Wait, how much help are we going to be then?
>>
>>24721378
You have two choices. You can think happy thoughts on the farm, or you can stand with them in battle.
One will be more useful than the other.
>>
>>24721369
I agree with the idea of using winter for questing, but we don't want to let the farm lay fallow while we do.
>>24721378
Hugely, by increasing the bonuses to all rolls, by being an extra head to think of things, and by rolling for things ourselves.
>>
>>24721378
Providing 3-as-1 bonus and being an additional roll for attacks.
>>
>>24721400
>>24721392
Well, I don't think that's going to help much when the weather witch is going to call down lightning and freezing winds if we step within a mile of her.
>>24721391
Fair enough.
I want to file a motion with OP to ignore suggestions from idiots.
"But OP, I want to move twigs around in my frozen farm, don't make me quest with my wives"
>I don't think that's going to help much
Protection Relics such as Providence can be supercharged via essence.
Us being there provides a second source of essence to supercharge the protection artifact and provide bonuses to control because of working in concert with Melissa and Daliah.
Why do you think that supercharging the Relic that can protect us from the bloodwitch's magic won't be of much help?
>>
>>24721422
I am a generous goddess, and I help those who help themselves.
And those who roll 100's.
>>
>>24721459
Look man, I've already given my opinions often here, and gotten shouted down in a rather rude manner repeatedly. I'm out. The debate has been settled by word of Quest master, I'm not going to be your punching bag here any more.
Even in an open quest with a flexible OP like we have, there are right choices, and wrong choices.
>>
>>24721479
Well hey. If all of your opinions are of this caliber, of not being well-thought out and generally leading to bad results, you're going to have to become used to being a punching bag.
