Good evening, all. I'm gonna try two nights in a row here, so bear with me. I'm gonna require heavy direction tonight.

~~~~~~~
You wake up the day after the poker game. You're having a bit of trouble breathing, which is unusual. You move your right arm, with difficulty, pulling it out from under Melissa's squishy form. Your left arm is trapped hard in Daliah's firm grip, even as she sleeps. You look to her, she's snoring a bit, which is a bit cute, you suppose. You look down at your chest, to see what's wrong with you. You lock eyes with Rezna, who lays on top of you. She's curled up around your lap, head resting on your heart. She's listening to your heartbeat, you're sure. She stares at you unblinkingly. "Um, good morning, Rezna. Did you sleep well?" A small smile touches her lips. "Who says I slept?"
~~~~

After a nice little breakfast of eggs, you head out to the farm, checking on the fields. The rows and rows of planted seeds look fabulous. You really should get your cart from the carpenters, you spent enough money on the thing, that's for sure.

[ ] Go fetch the cart, bring ____ with you for the trip

Bring Rezna, and Daliah if she wants to come, Melissa probably wants to check on her animals.

>A small smile touches her lips. "Who says I slept?"
I am sure you are trying for cute but holy fuck Rezna is terrifying.
>>
>>24872261
Going for both, actually.
>>
>>24872188
She's so adorably creepy.

See if any of the girls want to come with or have anything they need to take care of in town. It's up to them.

Also once we're at the carpenters we can ask them about more apiaries for more bees, the water mill, and a seed drill. A seed drill is necessary for expanding our operation, it both makes planting faster and more productive. It's not even that complex, just notched wheels and a funnel.

>[ ] Go fetch the cart, bring ____ with you for the trip
I'd like to bring Melissa or Daliah, but all things considered, Rezna is needed at the Clinic.
Daliah can help with the Clinic, and Melissa should try to work out how much of our alcohol we can sell to the pub.
We should bring a sampling of our mead along for the pub owner to taste.
>>
>>24872283
Ooh, that's nice.

I like Rezna, she's right on the edge between "dear god get it away from me" and "oh my, I need to cuddle that girl until the end of time". It's perfect.
>>
>>24872432
Unfortunately the drawfriend went on to other requests and didn't do a full body version.
>>
You decide to head to pick up the cart, and prepare one of the asses for hitching.

"I'm heading out to town for a bit, does anyone want to come with me?" You call loudly. Melissa waves at you from the barn, and blows you a kiss. Daliah is off in the back 40 practicing sword techniques or something similar. So, you turn around and bump into Rezna. "I'm coming." You know for a fact she wasn't there a minute ago. You shiver involuntarily. "Sounds good to me."

~~~
A few minutes later the two of you are down the road. It's a nice day, warm, even, and you decide to take your shirt off to get some rays. As you do, Rezna begins tracing designs on your back with a finger. You start to put your shirt back on, but it feels nice, hypnotic even, so you leave your shirt off.
"Keith, you are nicely vascular." Was that an attempt at flattery?
"Thanks Rezna, you're looking nice today yourself." Is all you can manage. She chuffs a little bit, a semi laugh not at all like the one you've heard in more...dangerous situations.
"I need to go to the clinic again today, Keith. The villagers are expecting me for some routine checkups. The roads are nicer now, so I can walk home if need be, but would you pick me up just before dark?"
She's getting wordier as the days go on.
[ ] A walk will do you good
[ ] Yes, I'll pick you up tonight
>>
>>24872528
[X] Yes, I'll pick you up tonight
"Sure thing Rezna, I have a couple of projects to talk about with people in town anyways.
If you're done with your checkups and I'm not there I'm either still talking, probably to the carpenter or blacksmith, or at the bar talking about alcohol distribution, or goofing off, that's entirely possible.
You can even be the first person to ride the cart home."
>>
>>24872528
Sure we'll pick her up. Once we've got the cart, we can go resource gathering. we will need a lot of wood for the various projects we have planned...
Though it's a shame that we didn't bring the axe with us...
>>
>>24872528
>[x] Yes, I'll pick you up tonight
We might as well, and it might keep us frying dying horrible, or perhaps she will kill us on the dark road.
>>
>>24872584
Rezna claps happily behind you on the donkey, and hugs you tightly.
"Oh, I'm sure you won't forget about me again. That makes me VERY happy, Keith. Please, be safe while I'm not around you." With that, she settles into you, and the rest of the ride is quiet.
~~
You drop Rezna off at the clinic, where a small line has already formed. She slides off the ass with your help, kisses your hand, and almost skips into the clinic. Some of the villagers give you dirty looks. They know you're married to two girls already, and this isn't one of them. Hopefully Rezna can set them straight peacefully.
~~~~

You pull up to Douglas' house, and you can see your cart peeking out from under a cloth cover. You're excited already. Douglas pokes his head out from his door, and quickly exits to greet you. "Hey boy! Wait till you see this thing, it's sweet! I built you a nice little bench on the front just big enough for two. You know, heheh, so you have an excuse to be close to one of your girls!" You feel like pointing out that the only way you get away from any of them is by running off into the woods, but you let it pass.

You begin hitching up the cart. It's well constructed, tightly bound. The wheels are surprisingly smooth in their turning. The bed of the cart is easily ten feet long and seven wide.

"Say, Douglas, I'm light on coin now, but I want to discuss more plans for the end of spring, beginning of summer. I'm thinking I need more honey, so I need more apiaries. Also, I've been long considering a waterwheel/grindstone."
>>
>>24872769
And don't forget talking about a seed drill.
900% average crop yield increase is nothing to sneeze at.
>>
>>24872769
And the seed drill, the basic principle goes back to Sumerian times, we're just improving on that because agriculture is awesome. Make it able to be pulled by an onager and we're in business.

We've got plenty of time to if need be we can sketch it out and give him a design to work off of.

Hell we could also let him produce more of them for others, either in exchange for a royalty on the sale or a royalty on their enhanced crop production, CAPITALISM HO!
>>
>>24872769
Douglas rubs his chin, nodding. "A waterwheel, eh? That's some job. Not like any of the other things I've done before, or really heard of. I can see what you mean, and how it might be built, but it's never that simple. Let me look into it for a while, and get back to me sometime later."

With that, and a laugh, he bids you farewell, and you spur your ass forwards with an included crop, easily drawing the cart behind it. It's a smooth ride.

~~~~
You head to the blacksmith, it's been a while since you've seen him. "Ho, John, are you busy?" He turns to see you, laying down his hammer. "Always, but there's also time for you. What is it?" You pull out a small drawing of a seed drill you found in one of Rezna's books. After explaining a bit, John nods.
"Aye, I see how that could be proper useful. Unfortunately, good mechanics are expensive, and I can't work on credit. Do you have money now, or after the next harvest?"
You are rather light on coin, and you figure it best to hold on to what you have. "After harvest is best. I'll pay a little extra if you can have it done in three days. I want to be able to plant the summer's crops with it." John nods, "Extra is the magic word, Keith. I'll be seeing you again." With that, he turns back to his forge, pounding away.
[ ] Where to?
>>
>>24872849
>Make it able to be pulled by an onager and we're in business
We'll want a human-powered version first. If we can spread the tech to everyone in the village, we could increase the food production above subsistence levels.
>>
>>24872905
Improving the village will reduce your profits. Still an option, just informing you.
>>
>>24872891
[x] Glasier
Ask about the possibility for a greenhouse. About how much would it cost?
>>
>>24872905
Or we could get one that can be pulled by an onager and if the villagers want human-powered ones they can get them themselves.
>>
>>24872920
That's why we get royalties on it, taking a percentage of the money made from the increased yields ought to more than cover the losses.
I suppose we SHOULD talk with our father-in-law. Let him know that everything is okay with our wives, and any rumors about us and Rezna are to be ignored since Daliah and Melissa are the ones who initiated that.
>>
>>24872991
We'll be polite about it. If their net yield after our take is still a lot bigger than it was before they won't really complain that much.
>>
>>24873010
We're supposed to pick her up when it gets dark; I don't think it's even noon yet.
>>
>>
It's been quite a while since you've seen Hamad, you figure you might drop in on him, show off your new whip.
~~~~~

You pull up in front of Hamad's house, some time after noon, making as much noise as possible. You see Hamad's enormous frame leave his house in your peripheral vision, but you don't let on that you see him yet. "Oh my, it's like I'm riding on a cloud! I love this cart!"

You turn back to Hamad. "Oh hey there, it's been a while, how are you?"
>>
>>24873053
With a greeting like that?
We sure have a death wish.
>>
>>24873086

And that was the third time we died...
>>
Hamad nods. "Hello Keith. It has indeed been a while. We've all been busy, I suppose. I haven't seen my daughter much either. Are you keeping her trapped on your farm?"

You shake your head. "No, it's just a lot of work there, is all. And then when the work is done, we all spend our time together happily. Honestly, I have the ideal life, and I'm grateful for it every day."

Hamad nods again. "I hear things, you know. Things about you, and that Rezna girl. You married my daughter. AND another woman. That was a lot to bear. How do you defend yourself against the most recent rumours of you and this bundle of scar tissue you dragged back from the desert?"

"Hamad, I'm not entirely sure you understand our marriage. I am not in two separate marriages with Daliah and Melissa, all three of us are married and all of us love each other quite dearly. I'll be sure to pass on to Daliah that you miss her.

As for Rezna, her name is Rezna not a bundle of scar tissue, she's a wonderful kind girl who has taken to acting as the town physician. What's there to defend myself against Hamad? She chose to stay with us when we extended the offer and we're all happy to have her.

Given that I do not know the rumors that have been spread I can not exactly answer them. Anything personal between myself and her would be the business of my wives, if both of them are happy with the unconventional relationship all four of us share I don't suppose there ought to be any issue."
>>
>>24873212
That reads more like "don't listen to village gossip" than "your daughter made me stick the D in crazy, it wasn't my idea, I swear!"
>>
"Well Hamad, for starters, I don't appreciate you talking about Rezna like that. Keep it up, and you'll be sorry, I swear to you. Secondly, you should be thankful a girl who's had such a hard life has turned around and taken to healing your village, for FREE." With each point, you hold up a finger.

"Thirdly, I take damn good care of my wives, and they take damn good care of me. You should come over to dinner some time. You might like it."

Hamad is taken aback. A man the size of a bipedal rhino is rarely used to being spoken to in that tone, or with that kind of force.

You decide you've had enough of town for a little while, and head back to the clinic to pick Rezna up on the way home.

~~~~
You pull up to the clinic as the sun begins it's descent. Rezna is waiting on the front step for you, smiling slightly. "It's so good to see y-"
She pauses, and touches your face, the sore side of it. "Oh, my Keith...did you take a fall?"
You laugh a bit, "No, I was just a bit rude to Hamad, and got put in my place. Don't worry. Are you ready to head home?"
Rezna tilts her head a bit, still touching your face. "Actually Keith, I need to pick up a few herbs from the general store. Can you meet me at the pub in, say, half an hour?" With that, she kisses her fingertips then touches your cheek one more time, and skips off.
The pub it is, then.
~~~~

You park your cart outside, much to the awe of the other patrons. "Nice cart, Keith!" "Can I borrow that around harvest time?"

You mingle a bit, and then speak to the owner. "My mead is coming along nicely, I have several varieties in the works." Dale perks up, clearly interested. "Oh? Keith, you're a miracle worker. What have you got coming? When?"

You talk mead for a while, and wind up talking about your preferences in liquor. Time passes, and before you know it, Rezna sits next to you at the bar. "Have you been enjoying yourself, Keith?"

"Ah, Rezna, I was wondering where you were. Did you get the herbs?"

Rezna nods. "I got exactly what I wanted. Shall we go home together, now? She smiles a clear, sweet smile, and some small part of you worries about something nebulous.

"Yes, let's."

"You're special to me Rezna, so I won't judge you too harshly, but I need to know what to prepare for."

Rezna sighs. "You ARE a good man Keith, I knew it before now, but it's confirmed with everything you say and do. I spoke truly to Hamad for some time. I told him many things that I have not told you yet, because I fear you will no longer love me. I set a great fear into his heart, and I made it very clear that your person is off limits to living men. And then I stood, and left. That is all."

"Rezna, you are a good girl. You worry me sometimes, but I know your heart is in the right place. You...seem sad, though. Like something weighs on you. I want you to be able to tell me anything, and trust me to not abandon you."

"Oh Keith, you are so....worthy. If you're sure, I will tell you. But I want you to look at me while I do, so I can judge your reaction better."

You turn to look at her face, obediently. Rezna's eyes are as deep as ever, and you lose yourself a bit in them, as her voice washes over you in a litany of memory.

"You know that after I left Bounty Village, I was taken in by a caravan. Perhaps Daliah told you that the caravan leader began to be sexually inappropriate. This is an incomplete truth. He was a prolific sodomite, and he distributed his affections evenly. Every man, woman and child in that caravan were subject to his whims, including myself. I was so afraid Keith, that I cried for hours after I was done screaming into my pillow. I was afraid to be alone, I was afraid that if I left I'd die in the wilderness, alone. But a girl can only put up with so much. Eventually, the medallion called to me, spoke to me of another way. The tipping point came when the pig tried to have me in the important way. I took the Medallion, and cut his throat. As his blood sprayed, I bathed in it. But I didn't stop there. Every soul in that caravan died that night, perhaps even mine. Some of them died quickly, others did not. I'd rather not go into details."

You're stunned, but still held enraptured.

"After that, I left, and went to live in solitude in the desert where you found me. I had pets, occasionally, but I would always wind up needing to eat them. It was a harsh life. But I swear Keith, I will never eat you."

She waits expectantly for a reaction.

You pull Rezna into a deep hug, really trying to get your feelings across. "Rezna, I'm sorry, I had no idea."

She begins to sob, a heartwrenching hitching noise. "No, I'm sorry that I wasn't pure for you Keith, you deserve so much better than me."

You continue to comfort her. "Shhh, don't be silly. You're perfect the way you are. You even had enough self restraint to avoid killing, or physically harming Hamad, even though I'm sure you wanted to, right? Right?"

Rezna pulls back, chuffing slightly. "Yes, I did want to. But I simply told him that if I ever felt like eating him, I'd start at his feet, and keep him alive via blood magic until I was done, several days later."

You pull her head back into your chest, she's got a bit of an honest face on right now, and it's scary.

Time passes on the farm, as it normally does. Melissa helps the animals with breeding, you water the crops, Daliah clears more land, and chops wood. Rezna holds your shadow down.

You test the mead regularly, and finally, the day comes when Melissa declares it "Fit for overconsumption."

How do you want to use it? Should we sell it all, and start with a fresh set of batches? Should we keep it all for ourselves, distill some into honeyjack?

You cut the mead into thirds, a third for sale, a third for further distillation, and a last third for personal use.

Though Melissa is a strong advocate for just drinking it all yourselves.

She promises to deliver the mead safely to the pub, and sets off immediately, taking Rezna with her. The two of them hum the song Melissa always hums to herself, and they disappear down the road.

~~~~~
You continue tending to your crops in their absence, with Daliah in attendance. She stalks up and down the rows, adjusting a leaf here, shifting soil there. You can't tell if she's doing anything, or just messing around for fun, but it doesn't bother you. "You know, Daliah, we could go fishing, if you want." She perks up, and smiles. "I wish you'd asked earlier, we haven't spent much time alone, lately."
>>24874894
You're not sure how to bring this up, but you figure it needs to be said.
"Daliah, when we were in town the other day, your father and I had a disagreement, and Rezna took it quite personally."
You go into detail regarding the particulars, and when you finish, you find Daliah looking at you intensely.
"Father hit you?" "Well, yes, but that's not the point. Don't you think we should try to get Rezna some personal interaction skills or something? She can't simply threaten people all the time, can she?"
Daliah laughs. "Stupid husband. If I were there, my father would be learning to tug himself with his offhand now. I must speak to Rezna about defending you better."
This is hopeless. You hang your head in despair. Daliah senses this, and pulls your head into her lap. "Think of it this way, Keith. You would do, and have done, anything and everything you could do to protect us, and keep us safe when the need arose. You took us all in under your wings, when you were the person who was truly lost. You are the most precious person in the world, to us." As she strokes your hair, you close your eyes.
"For as long as you defend us, we will defend you. Know that. From threats great, and small."
[ ] Rebuttal?
>>
Remember when she stabbed me in the throat? She only meant to demonstrate the medallion, not to kill me. Now imagine what she could do out of anger. She is very sick, and I would like for us to take this very seriously."
>>
>>24875184
"How cute, my husband is trying to play tough after my father slapped him like a little bitch!"
You sit up straight at the comment, indignant, but Daliah pulls you back down into her lap. She holds you down with one hand, she's frighteningly strong.
"There is acceptable physical contact, and there is unacceptable physical contact. Jostling around in play is one thing, exerting force as a method of control, or domination is another. This is this and that is that."
You begin to protest, but Daliah moves her hand over your mouth.
"If my father hit Melissa in the way he hit you, would you 'speak to him sternly' about it? I know you would not."
You lick her hand, and she withdraws it.
"Fine. My wise wife knows best, I suppose. Just...can't we all get along?"
"Indeed husband. We must all try. Just focus on the farm for a while, I will take care of my father and patch things up."
>>
>>24875344
>takes time away from the farm.
Best reason.
So where is the damn farming?
>>
>>24875409
>so where is the damn farming
I'll admit, I'm a bit tapped on what to fill the repetitive farm time with. The crops are planted, you water them every day. Melissa tends to the animals.
What else do you want to do? It's probably just my tired imagination failing me.
>>
>>24875470
There's other projects that we wanted to work on, such as digging an irrigation ditch and system for all of our fields.
Exploring the woods for herbs and mushrooms.
Even working on projects like the seed drill by taking wood from the forest and using our knife to carve prototypes.
Finally, we still need to bury that fucking Hellcube.
>>
>>24875470
Well if the whole farming aspect isn't really a part anymore, this sorta of ceases to be a harvest moon quest, no?
>>
>>24875504
>digging an irrigation ditch
Wouldn't that use up field space currently occupied by crops?
>exploring the woods for herbs and mushrooms
Not really farming, per se, but sure.
>working on the seed drill
The blacksmith is taking care of it, come late spring
>the hellcube
Definitely not farming.
>>
>>24875508
On one hand that's true, on the other hand, what do you do in actual harvest moon games?
>plant crops
>month of tedious maintenance
>harvest
>repeat
The personal interactions are what made the games interesting, at least for me. The setting of pre-industrial farmtown was a big part of it, but the farming itself was just a means to an end, for me. I always farmed to be able to afford to mine deeper, to interact with the villagers more often, and to do all the little side quests.
Maybe I'm, a bad person?
>>
>>24875508
Well you could get him to give you day-by-day estimates of crop growth, but that would just turn this into "drying paint quest". Even the actual HM game is all about timeskipping, so if you want to fill the time with something then suggest it.
>>
>>24875534
I believe that on the map, the fields were spaced such that paths and irrigation lanes are possible.
And all of these other actions are part of what is done in a Harvest Moon game after the crops are planted and watered, and the animals taken care of.
I believe we also wanted to create crayfish traps.
And then there's getting wood and going into the mines to get metal to build a water heater so we can heat our bath.
>>
>>24875628
>we want to create crayfish traps
Holy shit, see "drying paint quest" for reference.
>get wood and metal
We have wood, and the blacksmith is busy with ACTUAL work, IE, the seed sowing machine.
Truth is, there's not much to do in a harvest moon game that we aren't currently doing, so OP is rightfully filling the gaps with relics and waifus.
But now we've completely killed thread momentum.
>>
Maybe a fish weir? If we know how to make one.
>>
>>24875761
It's just a series of channels and nets, right? Seems simple enough.
>>
>>24875576
Sorry, I kind of worded that badly. I wasn't meaning to be accusatory, or call the story bad; I was simply stating that if farming wasn't a part Harvest Moon Quest becomes a misnomer.
>>
>>24875982
Perhaps you're right. Are we at an impasse?
Is there a point where the farming becomes rote "we plant X, brew Y, and then timeskip to the fun parts"?
I want this to be fun for everyone, and I fear that we've outstripped the simpler parts of farming, and in fact the more we automate our farm the less we'll need to do on it. Think about it, the more tech we introduce, the more efficiently we can be done farming. We're accidentally metagaming ourselves into relic quests.
Do you want me to change the name of the threads?
>>
I guess we'll have to hash it out before the next thread. Or have a thread to decide if there'll be a next thread.
>>
>>24876175
So are we gonna keep going? Cause I want to deal with the "yandere" situation before going back to farm work.
>>
>>24876360
Honestly, I'm drained tonight. I can't go any further without a general consensus on where the threads should go.
A: Just farming, with more full descriptions of heavy watering cans, and arable soil.
B: Continue on as is, describing the farming in a cursory manner, making farm related choices, but focusing on character relations, poker games, and relics.
C: It's been a good run, let's just end it before it gets too silly.
I'll make a meta thread...sometime in the near future.
>>
>>24876450
Just focus on farming a tad bit more, and try to tone down the grimdark. I don't want to switch suddenly from making mead to keeping Rezna from going buffalo bill on some poor fucker.
>>
>>24876450
Focus on farming a bit more, maybe put small sections of decisions to make in the field of problems with it to fix and make sure are doing okay. But mainly continue as it is.
>>
>>24876539
>>24876554
I think the problem is that farming is a simple action.
I can't very well ask you if you want to water the crops every day.
And once we make mead, it's made. Then time has to pass. Honestly, if we time skipped everything but farming, there'd be two and a half years going by per thread, easily.
I'll have to think about it over night.
>>
>>24876575
But it doesn't have to be just farming. Something weird could happen while collecting mushrooms. We might be called upon to mediate in a dispute between two farmers about [insert scandal here]. We could convince the whole town to pitch into making something to benefit everyone, like the watermill. Hell, make some of the npc's more prominent in storytelling. You don't have to focus so much on relics and waifus when other stuff can happen.
>>
>>24876450
I like the game, I just think it maybe dove into waifus and such a bit too fast. We know so little about the town and inhabitants, or really just the world in general. It'd be cool to have some stuff to do that involved or outside world that wasn't relic related.
Most of the grimdarkness is from the players though, I know I over react to everything Rezna does. I didn't actually expect her to kill Hamad, or expect Hamad to kill us, but what's the point in having a mentally unstable sociopath yandere blood witch if you don't get to over play it a bit.
>>24876770
>>24876855
These are some pretty good ideas.
>>
Yeah a little more town interaction would be fun, we don't go out there much except to shop.
>>
>>24876450
>>24876575
I think you've got the right balance, at the moment. You're grabbing any interesting farming idea we come up with and running with it, which is very encouraging for coming up with more. We're doing many of those things in parallel, including brewing, growing, and building. There isn't a lot more you can do farming-wise.
I definitely don't want to see the quest end anytime soon; I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I feel like there's a main plot here that we're just scratching the surface of, including the relics, Daliah's past history, the Goddess, Keith's past, the mysterious little space-time bubble with these towns in it...
I think it's working well to have exploration/adventure, character development, and farming. Any one of those alone would not suffice. The combination of the first and last makes this a Harvest Moon quest, and the character development is something you can do far better than any game can manage.
So, in short, B. Just keep taking farming ideas into account like you have been. We're getting closer to the point that we can do some more fancy inventing, baking, and other interesting tech-tree advancements. We'll soon have fig rubber, and sugar.
>>
>>24877350
Expanding on this: think of this a little like a civilization-building quest, but with farming in addition to building, and inventions and cooking as your tech tree. Any decent civilization-building quest is going to need some adventure and exploration in addition to the building and advancing, otherwise it becomes far too mechanical. You have to find the right balance.
>>
>>24877350
A few more ideas:
So far we don't have many well-developed NPCs other than Daliah, Melissa, Rezna, and very slightly Hamad. Every shopkeeper, bartender, and random town denizen has a name, a face, possibly a family, a home, background, history, motivations; we just don't know most of them yet. It's a small everyone-knows-everyone town; we should make with the knowing. No more biblically, though.
We haven't heard from the other town for a long time.
We don't know exactly how we got here, or what/where "here" is.
And all of that leaves aside whatever overarching plot devices you already have in mind.
Don't worry too much about the "back to farming" notions; as long as we have at least some farming-related stuff in every thread, I think we'll do fine.
>>
>>24877350
To some extent, the non-adventure portions of the quest don't have to be easy-mode either, where we have access to anything we need and can succeed at most of the things we try. Combining that with an aversion to the adventure/relic/exploration/etc bits would turn this into too much of a sandbox, and that leads down a dangerously uninteresting road that other quests have fallen into in the past; it's a disturbing failure mode.
If you want to see a good example of how to combine adventure/plot/etc, interpersonal interactions, civilization building, and ludicrous levels of awesomeness, take a look at Ogre Civilization Quest for some inspiration.
In any case, I'm really enjoying the quest. I think many of the people advocating the expansion of farming are trying to recapture the awesomeness of some of the earlier threads where /tg/ delved deep into farming details to your great surprise and amusement. I don't think that has played itself out, but it's difficult to get there due to farming and adventuring occurring on very different timescales.
Here's a really crazy idea to address that, which you may or may not want to go with. The original games tended to use heavy timeskips, and treat most adventures as long-running and not time-critical, which meant they could use conventions like seasons that only last a day or two. I don't think that approach will work well here. However, you could always introduce a limited-function time-manipulation relic of some kind, such that Keith and family go to sleep one night after planting and watering some seeds, and wake up the next morning to find a small region of them have become near-full-grown plants. You'd have to take some care to avoid allowing that to let us grow far more food than the community needs, or otherwise have the time-change be game-beaking, but I think the "small region" bit would handle that; that way, we can grow a small number of utility/tech-tree crops quickly.
Thoughts?
I've been reading through the last 3 threads or so and I've got to say I like where this is going. I liked Harvest Moon growing up and I kind of agree with the person running the thread's comment that the farming aspect really was a side business to everything else.
I hope these threads continue and that everyone continues to have fun.
