"Oh yes, your president asked us specially for a pre-tournement exhibition match." The blonde says with elegent cheerfulness.

You are the Commander of the M26E1 "Super" Pershing heavy tank Black Jack, and just when you were starting to not hate that red head twerp, she goes and does it again.

"Tomorrow?" You say, incredulously. The team had gotten their first day of actual training- some of them were having problems driving in a straight line, or even hitting things at near-point blank range. And Anzu thought it would be a great idea to throw them at a what you can only assume is a seasoned team?

You hands ball into a fist reflexively as blondie nods. Elegently. Her red-haired friend is still looking at your tank with a bored stare.

You can't handle it and look back at your gunner, who looks just as shocked as you are. "Rose, she's doing it to me again." You pinch the bridge of your nose.

>"Wait... Who are you two, anyway?"
>"I'm sorry, I forgot to introduce myself."
>"Excuse me while I go wring our president's neck."

Hang on there are actual battles? My friend told me that it was just a high school club of girls being cute and restoring a tank (more being cute than tank restoring). He never said anything about actual tank fighting.

You squash your urge to start screaming and punching things, as appropriate as it seems for this situation; it's not these girls fault that Oorai's class president is retarded or something.

"I do apologize," You start, trying to soften your tone to something more polite than seething rage. "I don't think we've been introduced." You say, sticking your hand out to shake.

The girl elegantly giggles. "Oh, I'm sorry, I was so caught up with your tank..." She shakes your hand elegantly. "I am Darjeeling, Captain of the Senshado team for St. Gloriana Girls Academy." She says. "And this is my gunner, Orange Pekoe."

You blink. Did they really name themselves after teas? "So, where's Assam?" Throwing out the first tea you can think of. Darjeeling didn't seem to have a problem with humor anyway.

Darjeeling smiles at you. "My driver couldn't make it for this trip." You really aren't sure if she's going along with the joke. You introduce yourself and Rose before Darjeeling moves to look at your tank.

"It is a magnificent beast, isn't it?" She says quietly, with a hint of awe in her voice.

Start naming STATS, MOTHERFUCKER!

"Yeah, it is. 90 mm gun, muzzle velocity of 3,750 ft/s (1,140 m/s) with the T30E16 APCR shot. With this baby, you could penetrate a Panther's frontal armor at up to 2,600 yd (2,400 m)."

You smile. "Yeah, it's got the prototype T-54 main gun. Thirty-Seven-Fifty feet per second muzzle velocity. With HVAP it'll go clean through a Panther, glacis to rear plate, at a thousand yards." You walk up and lean against it- if there's anything you can talk about this proudly it's Black Jack. "By the time their friends even hear the report, another round's on the way. And Rose here can damn near pick flies off a wall with it." You say. No reason not to put a bit of caution in the back of their mind if you're gonna be fighting them.

"Oh my..." She says, walking around it, dragging her hand across the side of it's wheelwell. You smile inwardly. You've definately impressed upon her just what kind of tank she's up against, maybe she'll think twi- "Don't you ever wash it?"

"Wassat?" You say, jolted out of your fantasies of starting your very own little tank panic.

"It's filthy!" She says, showing you the slightly dingier tip of her finger. "We would never allow one of our tanks to fall into such disgrace."

Douchbaggery and Pansy are not binary. I think that we are currently acting in an assertive IC fashion; Blackjack is our pride and joy much like a prized classic car.

"Darjeeling, if I may be blunt." You start. "It's a tank, and not one of your prissy little English jobs either- it can handle a little bit of dirt and mud." You're a bit annoyed now. One does not simply accuse you of not taking care of Black Jack. "It's seen every kind of dirt you can imagine, lady. Sand, Mud, Dust- you ever seen what mud does when it gets cold enough? Makes little mudsicles that hang down off anywhere that doesn't move regularly."

Rose joins in at this point. "We actually had to get out and break it off every few hours or it'd start weighing the tank down." She says informatively.

"Black Jack'll bounce a German Eight-Eight off the glacis. A little bit of grime ain't gonna hurt it."

"Oh, I don't doubt that, but having a clean tank is a matter of pride. For us, anyway." She says, boredly rubbing the dirty from her fingers. "We at Gloriana would never fight dirty like this."

Orange Pekoe speaks up again. "And what would possess your team to paint your tank in these vulgar colors?"

>"Okay, yeah, the paintjobs definately weren't our idea..."

We curse at the President. We curse at the circumstances that led us to such a colorful tank. We curse at the teacher who does not teach, at the faux-british who insult our machines, we curse at our enemies who have yet to smite.
But mostly, we just curse. Enough that if these girls know a little bit of English, the right parts, their ears catch fire, and the incredible burning causes them to spontaneously run out of the garage and out of our hair. The gold paint flakes, revealing our once-beautiful tank, and then it spontaneously fires a shell we didn't know we loaded up.
Good times.

Rain, shine, or hailstorm, from Pusan to the gates of Hell, Blackjack can and has survived it all. Whether Blackjack's in his natural color scheme, painted by the student council, or decked out in Red, White, and Blue, he can and will wipe the deck with your tank. Unlike the petty, Blackjack ceaselessly rolls forward upon his treads, crushing his foes underneath, with disregard to trivial matters such as a paint-job. I am ashamed, as I expected a veteran tanker to not judge a tank by its paint scheme.

Can you guys not push the thread into autosage with shit like this? We're only, what, four, five legit posts in and we're already near autosage.

Can we go back to swearing incoherently? I think that's my favorite choice here.
Really, we sound pathetic by complaining about the management, or we sound like we're deflecting the question. We either need swearing, or a better idea for how we say things.

"Y'know, painting Black Jack baby blue certainly wasn't my idea." You say, getting a bit heated. "But it was a nice gesture, if a bit misguided. And quite frankly I'm a little bit offended by your rude and superior tone..." You notice Darjeeling looking over your shoulder when you hear her.

"Darjeeling! Welcome to Oorai!" Anzu calls out cheerfully. "Come to get a look at the competition before tomorrow?" She walks up and happily shakes Darjeeling's hand. "I see you've met one of the aces we brought in. We had a practice match yesterday and he destroyed four of the five other tanks."

"It was all with the help of my crew." You say with a slight nod to Rose.

Orange Pekoe looks at you. "He certainly has spirit."

Darjeeling smiles. "Unfortunately you won't have a ghost of a chance tomorrow."

True, that wasn't the North's fault though, the south left the union on the belief that lincoln would punish slavery because he was from the slave free north.

Expect that Darjeeling will have a plan to deal with us, it's why she paid so much attention to our tank. She's insufferably arrogant, but not stupid.

Isn't that cute...BUT IT'S WRONG! The Emancipation Proclimation wasn't until several years into the war, and only affected the rebelling states. Slavery was still legal in the north, even after the war. Lincoln is on record saying he wouldn't have touched slavery if he could have brought the south back in.

>>
>>24948075

IMO, the Civil War was always about slavery. The North couldn't take the economic hit, and the South thought they were going to take an economic sucker punch (or would later as free demographic were going to crush them in the House and they could tie at best in the Senate). Over these reasons, I think a layer of feel-good has been placed on both sides.
>>
>>24948146

I'm not sure where we would get the means to "deal with it" in the first place. We don't have the means to order paint, we've not had a chance to even try to change the paint job, how are we supposed to deal with it? We just had our practice match, then got story-forwarded to this.

Your comments make no sense.
>>
>>24948139
Fuck yea this. Maybe not in front of the competition, but fuck it maybe that'll make her HAVE to finally do it.
This could give a bit of a psychological edge, as well; If we show dissent now, tomorrow, when we're working together and in tandem, it could take them by surprise. They're pretty smug, let's let them eat that look on their faces.

>>
>>24948213

We've already gone over why that's an even more stupid idea than the blue paintjob.
Blue makes Black Jack look silly, but sandblasting the paint off and leaving bare metal would corrode Black Jack like nothing else in this environment; or have you forgotten that we're actually at sea?

such things are in execution as there's an infamous event in another quest that people are still sour over and had it been executed differently, they would be accusing the writer of railroading that event to happen regardless.

The only person that knows for sure if a writer is railroading or not is the writer himself. A good one can cover up actual railroading while a so-so one gets unfarily accused of it.

This is very important.
It takes time to write up a story post, so you need to tell players when voting has stopped, otherwise they'll keep voting, and a different choice may get support.
If you post "Voting Closed!" and THEN someone posts something that gets a lot of support, then the players won't feel frustrated when what they ended up wanting, rather than what they wanted at the time of voting, doesn't happen.

Well, it's mainly to make it a bit easier to write- by giving distinct choices like that I can get a fair idea of what I might be writing ahead of time. Of course I also look at individual posts and when I see something good I'll try to work it in.

It also serves to kind of focus the voters a bit- it's a lot easier to tally up 2-4 specific choices than 5-10 "What do?" choices.

If you define the term railroading as having all actions lead to only one outcome, rather than forcing players to choose only those options offered by the OP and no other. The former is more precise, but /tg/ tends to use the latter definition.

Alright, I'll call it "closing off player creativity", then. 3 OP-determined choices and one Other allows for focusing the players while still allowing for player creativity. Not having an other choice means that the OP cannot respond to scenarios that they have not already mapped out, something which /tg/ has argued is one of the most glaring faults of a GM in its many DM/GM Advice threads.

BlackJack doesn't have to go full freeform, but there should still be the opportunity for players to exercise their creativity.
>>
>>24948905
even though /tg/ is not known for GOOD decision making? Honestly I wouldn't have those three choices be rigid but rather flexable to an extent. That and vetoing obviously bad decisions

Though we must consider he's a first time quest runner, not a seasoned vet. Though I must admit I could never do something like this as getting to gether 5+ updates in a single day is about impossible for me.
>>
>>24948963
>even though /tg/ is not known for GOOD decision making?
SW series of quest does not represent all of /tg/. There are many quest where /tg/ doesn't have its head up its collective ass.
>>
>>24948905
> Of course I also look at individual posts and when I see something good I'll try to work it in.

Well, it's not like he's ignoring creativity.
>>
>>24949003
>I'll try to work it in.
All I get from that is that he will allow cosmetic changes, but no fundamental change to the decision.
Being able to make a fundamentally different decision, such as "Call up grandpa and pick his brains on actual team vs team combat, as he experienced it in wartime" is what I am concerned about.
>>
>>24948992
perhaps not but this is in a similar line as it's not a pure /tg/ quest or a pure /m/ quest, but rather a /ak/ + other stuff. One could say this is directly descended from SWQ.
>>
>>24949052
>Call grandpa and pick his brain.
Actually not a bad idea. Is it too late to vote for this?
>>
>>24948963
Since when have roleplayers in general been sources of good decisions?
Bad decisions make interesting quests happen. Getting angry at Anzu is interesting, just putting up with her shit like what happens in the Anime isn't very /tg/ at all.
Occasionally, we will lose - As happened - and we'll bitch about it. Because that's what happens when you lose, you bitch about it then move on.
The difference between railroading and having flexible decisions depends on bridging the gap between interesting and bad and butthurt. Blackjack's doing just fine. It's obvious he loves the source material, all of it - The anime AND the military bend we try and take with it. Plus, we get all riled up because we care about the quest and what happens in it, which meant to me that he's doing a good job.
Personally, I'd like to see a slightly more pro-active bend in our actions. A lot of the descriptions paint us as more passive and accepting of the crazy circumstances we end up in thanks to the Prez, but without her there'd be no conflict at all. Still. She's gonna get slapped eventually, probably when we find out what she's done with Miho (Forcing her into the club, If I recall the Anime correctly). Messing with our tank is one thing, messing with our comrades is another; Until that day, I wait in excitement.
>>
>>24949052
That is a good question as the time's looking ripe for him to pop up. I hope BlackJack didn't forget him.
>>
>>24949052
Actually....Next vote, this option!
>>
>>24949055
So instead of giving the players a chance you will use past quest that don't have connection to this beyond the fact it may have a loosely same player base?
>>
>>24949062
That's a surprisingly good idea. that should happen.
Now, happening before or after getting ahold of the other tank commanders, and warning them about what's up? That's the question.
>>
>>24949102
I'd say get them together first, let Miho start hashing out a plan while we try to track him down.
We don't know how quickly we can get ahold of him, and being the most experienced tank commander aside from Miho, we need the least amount of planning. Besides, Miho is the one better at team tactics planning, so we wouldn't be as useful in that regard. We'd be more useful trying to get ahold of the one man on this carrier that actually fought and killed alongside fellow tankers and infantry against opposing tankers and infantry.
>>

I saw many many interesting choices taken, most of them affected the respective stories adversely.

Yeah. Miho needs to know about this- looks like whatever training plan that was going to be discussed just got put on hold. She said she'd be over with the Freshmen girls, helping them acquaint themselves with their tank, so you jog over towards it.

"Miho!" You call out as you get to the Cadillac-pink Lee. "Hey! We got a problem!" The 37mm turret's hatch pops open and Miho's head pops out.

"What's the matter?" She says earnestly.

"Our venerated La Presidente just put us up for a show match against some Tea-school." You say, already getting mad about it again.

"St. Gloriana. Their team specializes in British tanks." She hauls herself out of the tiny hatch like a pro. "I tried to talk her out of it, but she said she wanted the team to get a taste of what we'd be going up against." You help her down off the tank.

"So what the hell are we going to do?" You say, exasperated...

"Alright, we can head to my place." You say, after some thought. But it takes a lot more thought and, actually, quite a bit of desperation to bring up the next bit. "My grandfather was a tanker in Korea, maybe he'll have some ideas on what do with the greener crews."

Miho nods. "I'll get Yukari as well- she might not know a lot about tanking yet, but she knows a lot about tanks." Not a bad idea, actually.

"Sounds like a plan." You say nodding. Between the four of you there had to be something that'd help your team not look like complete amateurs come tomorrow morning. >>24949637
Not if BlackJack writes him like certain anon's been reacting, i.e. flying right off the handle when Anzu or the paint job is faintly mentioned.
>>
>>24949542
>>"Can you talk to Anzu as well, get us a map of the battlezone?"
>>
>>24949660
I'm still surprised /tg/ flew off the handle like that. I know the quest-players have a bit of a bad rep with regards to overly emotional outbursts, but still...
>>
>>24949589
Either this, or we go ourselves - Don't want >>24949588 to happen, yet we'll probably end up raging at her if we talk right now.
>>
>>24949680
An anon admitted that he was samefagging at times to get a rise out of the rest of us, but really, it's got less to do with a paintjob and more that /tg/ doesn't like Anzu. Nerds don't like a precocious bully, after all.
>>
>>24949682
that's assuming Miho's still such a doormat. That and between Chono and Miho, I'd sooner count on Miho to get shit done.

>Talk to Anzu and get a map of the battlezone.
We must take control so Anzu doesn't do something stupid again.
>>
>>24949703
more like the're taking MC's emotions and turning them up to 11.
>>
Am I the only one who didn't hate Anzu in the anime?
>>
>>24949703
>samefagging
about painting the tank with anzu's blood? i didnt samefag that, it was surprising the amount of support it got though
>>
>>24949745
I didn't either.

Though I wasn't fond of Momo and her being...well, useless. And loud. Overbearing, too. It's a bad combination.
>>
>>24949745
not in anime, she had legitimate reasons for her actions, but shes just being a bitch here
>>
>>24949719
Actually, if you think about it, as both a school coach and a JGSDF officer, Chouno should be able to have access to more information, such as the exact lineup of Darjeeling's forces and the selected battlezone.
>>
>>24949786
yea but she is useless, another bitch we need to confront
>>
>>24949745

Actually, I didn't. At least not after the 5th episode or so. Honestly I see her as someone who is willing to use any means to save her school, and is quite willing to manipulate those around her for the greater good. Despite her occasionally bad decision-making skills, she does have the school's best interests at heart.
>>
>>24949731
>Glasses Katyusha

HNNNNNNNNGHHHHH
>>
>>24949745
She's a bit annoying but I'm not out to hate her for existing. Unlike >>24949769 , I'm maintaining that she meant well (but fucked up) until I got proof of otherwise.

>>24949786
That would imply that she'd hand them out instead of dismissing it.
>>
>>24949795

Good intentions or not, she's still a cunt.
>>
>>24949814
Considering this is /tg/ that's hypocritical and shitty social skills are something of a norm here. In a certain manner of speaking Anzu might be a good fit here (smart, shit for social skills, personality flaws)
>>
>>24949857
you forget that /tg/ Gets Shit Done, something Anzu seems incapable of
>>
>>24949857
Lack of social skills is not an excuse for being a tyrannical, manipulative bitch.

It is just another tick on the long list of character flaws.
>>
>>24949866
Again you assume things, though "trying to get stuff done and fucking up" seems to be a /tg/ trait.

>>24949878
Nor is it an excuse to be a hateful asshole, something you should keep in mind.
>>
>>24949886
>"trying to get stuff done and fucking up"
Ah, something we share with Anzu
>>
>>24949795
My entire problem with her was how far she was willing to go. She was perfectly willing to fuck up all of Miho's plans and dreams to further her own ends, in the name of a good cause - A cause which she then turned around to use as emotional leverage.
Yeah, her actions caused all of the good things that came out of the tank battles to happen, but that's entirely because of the genre we're looking at; If we were to transplant the story to an American cartoon, she turns from the sympathetic instigator to the actual villain.
I just don't like people's emotional baggage being used against them, and Anzu was a master at that kind of emotional blackmail.
>>
>>24949886
I don't need an excuse to be a hateful arsehole. I rather enjoy it.
>>
>>24949894
It's the Japanese (and Asian in general) mindset - shutting up, abandoning your personal dreams and mindlessly following orders from a higher authority is a virtue there. Somehow.
>>
"Alright, I'm gonna go give my grandpa a call." You say, fishing in your pocket for you phone. You remember something important. "Oh, go see if you can get a map of where the game will be held from Anzu." If you try, you might actually end up strangling her this time.

Miho nods and hurries off while you dial the apartment your grandfather and you had moved into. It wasn't actually that far from the school, which was nice, but it was a lot smaller than you were used to.

Grandpa answers the phone after several rings. "What is it, boy?" He says cheerfully. "You ready for chili tonight?"

"Yep!" You say. Perverted old man though he was, his ability to cook was one of his finer points. "Hey, I'm bringing a couple of guests home with me-"

"You finally get yourself a girlfriend!" He cheers. "Ha! I told that summabitch O'Leary you weren't a fairy! That old fart owes me fifty dollars!" You roll your eyes and rub the bridge of your nose.

>"She's not my girlfriend."
>"The British are coming!"
>"Just... make sure you have pants on when we get there."

I'm not saying she's a saint, just that she's being demonized beyond her usual level (to perhaps having stories made up such as "nero fiddling while rome burned")

It's hard exactly get pissed at her certain people are making her out to be a far bigger villain than she actually is.

>"The British are coming!"
>"and make sure you have pants on when we get there."

We should probably tell Gramps that we have a bunch of girls coming. And maybe hint at our want of Miho x Yukari threesome.

So funny story. I went on trip to Japan like a decade back, including a weekend long homestay.

First night there, husband comes home from work, promptly takes off his pants, pours me a glass of whiskey, and asks if I liked American girls or Asian girls.

He then lit up a cigarette and we bet on horse races for like 2 hours.
