/tg/ - Traditional Games

So, /tg/, I've got a proposition for you. Right now, on my hard drive, I've got King of Dragons Pass installed.

What's King of Dragon Pass, you may say. Well, it's a 4X game about a celt-like civilization that leaves its home after chaos and monsters attack, and end up settling in the eponymous Dragon Pass. By venerating the gods to gain magic, going on heroic quests to emulate their glory, and solidifying your clan's settlement in the Pass, you may eventually form a tribe and become the King of Dragon Pass.

What does this have to do with you, you ask? Well, I'm willing to run this game for /tg/. I'd take screenshots of the game and post them up for you all to decide on what actions to take. I may give advice or clarify the mechanics some, but any actual decisions would be left up to all of you elegan/tg/entlemen.

So, here's my question to you all: who wants to lead a small, rag-tag bunch of cow-stealing, hard-drinking, squabbling peasants into a clan of glory and reknown? If you all are up for it, I will do this.

There once was a time when gods and people walked the earth together. Your clan traces its ancestry back to those times. Your clan history begins when you joined the forces of the storm god Orlanth. Back then, Orlanth was simply one of many upstart, rebellious gods bent upon conquest of the world. Orlanth's unique contributions at the time were personal honor and a close kinship to the other deities who seemed to be on the winning side.

Also, I'll put stuff from me here in spoiler text. Unspoilered text is some form of IC as the Ring Speaker, I suppose.

While others enjoyed themselves or learned secrets from the Earth Mother, we stood proud and stalwart against those who would besmirch this great and joyous occasion. For that reason, our patron god is Elmal, God of Horses and the sun.

Many great deeds took place in the early days of the world, but one of them was most significant to the growth and development of our tribe. Which one was it?

Pottery has been an integral part of our clan since its earliest beginnings, and thus our craftsmen are amongst the best and most productive in the land.

Another important event in our long and proud history was when we met the Nalda Bin, the Stick-Farmers. Did we accept them as equals, or take them as work-thralls?

Ernalda's voice, the mother of our people, came through to us as we ventured into the Godlands. Soon, all the gods were returned to us from the darkness, but her blessings we keep the most sacred and honored.

Dragons are a fact of life for our people, especially in the Dragon Pass. What is our relationship with scaly folk?

While we wished the dragonewt the best, we knew in our heart of hearts that we could not throw our lot in with dragonfolk, but that assaulting them was not wise either.

After much trial and travails, we finally made it to Dragon Pass, its riches and lands stretched out before us. How much of its splendor did we take for ourselves?

There was some debate on how much we should take, but in the end we claimed a good portion of the area around us. Defense may be an issue, though, and if we ever need more lands, perhaps we could take some from a neighbor we dislike?

And now the Dark season snows melt away and the Storm winds blow less frequently. Sacred Time will soon be upon us, but before we dedicate our magics for the year, the most important question of all must be settled: What name will be recorded as the best and most prosperous of all clans in Dragon Pass?

Counting down to shitstorm...

I can't help think we should have some kind of name that links our main deity and our first recorded great event.

Elmal, loyal god of horses - associated with gold.

And pottery. Potentially something to do with the heat of a kiln?

"Stallion Hearth"? There's Stag Hearths out there, so there's that for our authenticity.

Or maybe something like "Gilded Roan".

I'unno.

Drawing inspiration from Orlanth and Elmal, our new clan called itself the Sky Sons. With such a noble and proud name to unite under, the everlasting glory of our clan is assured.

You have no fucking clue how happy I am that you didn't go with something bear-related.

Now, these stories have been passed down through countless generations to us today. Some contest their veracity, while others hold true to tradition. How much stock do we put in the ancient tales?

So basically, the way this will work is that you can re-vote on any one thing per post. Please, again, no samefagging. If this post gets more votes for something than it did the first time, the new choice wins. Otherwise, we stick with the old one. For instance, three votes can change our first event, while five votes can change our opinion on dragonkin.

Many members of the ring suggest allocating magic to Crops, Herds and Health. Others point out that we've done no heroquests yet, especially none to our patron god. How will we dedicate our magic?

For the magic, just post one type of magic that you want to favor. For each point of magic we have, I'll consider one post. If we're already capped out on one form of magic, I'll ignore further posts of that type. Remember to link your votes to my post.

Overall, our nobles are generally skilled with Animals and Combat. Fitting, given we helped Orlanth take down the Sky Bear.

In my opinion, Garstal and Korlaman are prime leadership material, fit to be kings and clan leaders once they get some hair on their chest. Garstal has better leadership, while Korlaman's knowledge of magic is amongst the best in the clan.

Of course, Kenstrel's position as a trickster will be useful, if we desire it.

Renalda, Enastarra, Enastankos, Rangor are excellent farming consultants.

Valensta is the only one remotely equipped to do any sort of trade. She's the only worshipper of Issiaries, as well.

Ernaldess, Angorri, and Voskandora are our best war-leaders and explorers.

Kulbrast and Endal would make great poets and masters of crafting on the ring. Kulbrast also venerates Lhankor Mhy, if we want to give him tribute.

Hankorl is the only worshipper of Chalana Arroy amongst our lords as well.
>>
>>25001255
Angorri and Arene have the highest leadership, one of them should be chief to avoid a potential coup. I pick Angorri because lol sexism
>>
>>25001524

Voting for the new ring will work similarly to how we voted for magic. Each person will vote for one lord, and can choose to vote for that lord as Clan Chief.

The seven lords with the most votes will be put on the ring, and the one with the most votes as clan chief will become clan chief. Just vote, for instance "Garstal" if you want him on the ring, or "Garstal, Clan Chief" if you want him to be chief.

Link your votes to this post. You've got 15 minutes.
>>
>>25001531

You mean that they should be fed to Cragspider ASAP to avoid a potential coup.
>>
>>25001561

Just make one of the Elmal dudes into chief, and then toss the people with the highest stats plus the Trickster onto the ring.
>>
It gets a lot more interesting from here on out, all, I promise. Once we get the ring under control and a few other things ironed out, we can really begin playing. I apologize for this micromanagy patch we have to steam through.
>>
>>25001561
Garstal for leader, because fitting
Kenstrel as trickster of course.
Enastarra for Animals/Plants and generally good stats
Split on Arene or Valensta for Bargaining, Valensta is better but is 20 years older, so Arene has more potential. Both of them have uncommon gods too. Go with Arene I guess.
Fantarl for that combat + magic combo.
Voskandora for Vinga worship + combat (Fantarl can be our mage).
Finally, Kulbrast for cusrom + Lhankor Mhy + youngish and with decent allround stats.

Might regret no Chalana Arroy worshippers, but fuck it.
Also, Kenstrel (not that it matters) and Fantarl don't have their Bargaining listed, and Minara has no Combat.
>>
>>25001727

Those stats aren't listed because those characters have no rating in those stats. Basically, they're less than fair in them.
>>
>>25001791

So decided, our clan ring has been reformed to better suit the skills we need of our leaders. Garstal is ecstatic that he got to remain clan chief, despite inheriting the role on a provisional basis when we first arrived in Dragon Pass.

Now that such matters are resolved, how should we spend this season? Our farmers are working in the fields, seeding for the harvest and such won't appreciate full-scale raiding. Making offerings to various gods, recruiting more warriors and hunters, exploring our tula, or going on a heroquest are all great options while the fyrd works the land.
>>
>>25001897

explore the tula and if possible recruit more thanes.

I would wait until dark season for the mysteries

Finally, something interesting happened!

Before we can marshal our recruiters to find more good swordsmen, an envoy from Blue Spruce comes to us. Apparently, one of our children is destined to be a great hero to Lhankor Mhy, the Knowing God! Our neighbors ask to take the child from us and instruct them in the secrets and ways of the Knowing God.

What say you all? Shall we allow their request, and if so, what do we ask for in return?
>>
>>25002065
Yes, ask for knowledge.
>>
>>25002065
How are Blue Spruce relations? Also apparently the parents have no say, heh.

Anyway, I figure allow it in return for knowledge, we're unlikely to get anything out of the kid anyway since we're not big on the Lhankor-man.
>>
>>25001106
>>25002146
Going by the quoted post relations are poor but we're not feuding.
>>
>>25002146

They neither dislike us nor like us. We are indebted to them, though. Voskandora argues to keep the child for ourselves, though I feel it's so there's another soldier for the battlefield. The child's parents will be sad, of course, but if the ring commands it, they will obey and have to take solace in their child going to serve a greater power.
>>
>>25002065

Unfortunately, Fire Season is already upon us. Some wanted to put a cattle raid against our hated foes, the Vostangs. Shall we attempt a raid with the handful of warriors we possess, or raise more? Or hold off on stealing our neighbor's cows?
>>
>>25002313
Raise warriors, then raid.
>>
>>25002313
ugh, we don't have a lot of thanes yet.

>>
>>25002313

Time to raise them thanes...
Then also our crops/crafters

I would hold off attacking for the first year.
>>
>>25002380

We're already at the maximum number of crafters we can support at the moment. A temple to Issiaries and more trade routes would gives us more opportunities to make use of our crafters, though.
>>
>>25002324
>>25002380

Four more weaponthanes were added to our ranks. There's still time in the season to snach some unsuspecting heifers, though.

Of course we could raid our old foes the Vostangs, but the members of the ring also suggest Oak Trees and Karadavi as potential targets; they're not particularly martial, it seems.

What say you all?

Also, considering dropping the input time to five minutes to keep things flowing better. Thoughts on that?
>>
>>25002480
We have enemies enough already. Let's stick to our old feuds for now.

Don't forget what the Vostangs did to Korlmyr's wife and children!

They offer to tame and empower the alynxes that stalk our forest, so as to better fight off the vermin that spread disease and eat crops. They don't work for free, though; should we take them up on their offer, and what should we offer them for their troubles?

A few logs and a staircase are constructed on the north end of the tula, hopefully alerting us to incoming raids.

Just as the first snows start to fall, Iskalli introduces the clan ring to Orlkenson Bronzebones, a former thane of the despised Vostang clan. It seems Orlkenson was exiled by the Vostang clan leader, and Iskalli is petitioning us to admit him into our clan. Iskalli also vouches for his character.

Valensta comes back with poor news on the economic front as well. It seems Wolf clan mocked our goods when we brought them to market. She admitted their crafters are more skilled than ours, but didn't see why were castigated so.
