Deciding that this would be the best time as any to take the two to the Doctor to try and sort things out, you take leave of the girls and pop out of the bottle with the two.

Walking behind your children [finding it weird to think of them as your children seeing as they are about as old as you are] as they went arm-in-arm towards the medical wing of the Bureau, you wonder just how 'close' those two were.

Watching the energetic Alice guide the silent Rafalle through the halls of medical, you decide that it would be best not to pry into the two's business.

You found the blue box where it should be, the sign near the door stating "OPEN FOR BUSINESS"
Before you even got a chance to knock, the door opens up and the Doctor is there to meet you.
"What have you gotten yourself into now?!"

"It's not my fault!" you object as Alice tries to hide behind you, and Rafale seems to rech for something at his chest.
The doctor raises an eyebrow at you.
"...yet." you finish, and he brings said eyebrow down.
"... you are giving me such a headache right now." he tells you as he rubs his temples. "I don't like it."
"Now get in. We have much to talk about." he moves aside and allows the three of you to go inside.
"Ah, good mornings dearies." River Song greets you from the central console of the blue box.
"Good morning ma'am" you and Alice say in return.
"Good morning." Rafale also says after a quick nudge from his 'sister'.
"I trust you all had a good night's sleep?"
"Yes!" Alice, bubbly as ever, replies.
"Not really, no." you answer as well.
"That makes two of us." The doctor says from behind you as he closes the door.

"Ah. I see. And how much shit am I in?" you ask him frankly.

He listens to your explanation, his frown deepening as you continued.
"And when I stopped time, I saw them there."
"Those two?"
"Yeah. hey were i the time bubble. And they could move."
"Okay, so you stopped time. That itself is a contained temporal anomaly. A not-so-minor, minor one, but still."

"He went all out. My liver was almost pulp."
"He must have affected the shields I have up..."
"So that's how they got here?"
"Possibly, but it could only just be a part of that."
He punches a few a few buttons on his central console, and from a panel in it rises a glass box.
In it, a ring on a chain.

"This is the Device River found on the boy last night. It's dormant right now, seems to have run out of power, but we're keeping it contained just in case."
He hands you the glass box to let you look at it better.
"It wasnt made according to any Bureau specifications, not from the past, not from now, and certainly not in the future."
"So the Bureau didnt make it?" you turn the box around in your hand, the ring in a chain suspended, floating, inside of it
"Yes. And that's not the most interesting part."

"Well, while the Device is dormant, we, and I mean my baby here," he pats the central console affectionately, "we're able to briefly activate it earlier to study it."
"It turned into a sword." he says before you could ask what happened during activation. "And there was traces of blood on it."
"Well, he was shot up pretty badly last night, could have been his."
"No, no. It wasnt his, we ran it through our database, see?"

"Eh? Please explain further."
"Weeeeell.... You know how I once told you Time was a ball of stuff right?"
"I sorta recall that, yes."
"Well, that 'stuff' is basically, string. Lots and lots of string." his hands move in weird patterns in front of him
"But they're not all just identical pieces of string, no. Some are cut short. Some are knotted in themselves. Some get split in the middle and branch-off."
"I see..." you nod, understanding his metaphor somewhat.
"Those two, and your 'sister' as well, are from a split off part of this, your, timeline."
"So they're from an alternate future?"
"Exactly. Even if you found out some of their spoilers, the chance of a paradox is slim due to those events not happening in this timeline."
"ahuh.." you make a note to tell Susan that Rafale is more her son than yours.
"Buuut..."
"But?"
"Timelines intersecting back into each other, no matter how improbable, is still a real danger."
"So that's what's happening here? the split timelines intersecting?"
"Maybe. Maybe not. I have barriers up between timelines. Keeping them isolated from each other, see? Now, if Kyon's ability interfered with them, and if your watch did as well, then this could be nothing more than a one-off occurrence. "
"And if it wasnt?" you ask, a little out of your depth in this conversation.

both.

A good option with a good roll equals good things.
a good option on a bad roll can be ignored.

A bad option on a good roll can be a clusterfuck, but have some of the bad negated.
A bad option on a bad roll = death.

If I ask for a roll for effect. then it will have to do with the effectiveness of your action.

>using this
>but since people can't agree if hal is good or not, then I'm using this Guy

Some person you;ve never seen before walks into the room with The Dude.
"Okay kiddies, for this morning's lessons, I brought in a special instructor. I'll just be observing from the side and he'll take care of you."
"Morning you lot." The guy says, with a somewhat obnoxious, yet still affable, smile.
"My name's Guy. Guy Gardner. And I'm here to talk to you about technology that's similar to the Bureau devices..."
He reaches into his suit's pocket and pulls out a weird green ring.
"Specifically, I'm going to have you all learn about lantern rings."
His ring glows, and like your uniform changes into your butler suit, his clothes change.
Now standing infront of you in a black body suit with a green vest, he continues talking.
"lantern rings," he raises his fist to show everyone the glowing ring there, "are basically the same as Devices."
"they can channel your thoughts and emotions and bring them into reality." he demonstrates by materializing a sword made of what appears to be green light in his hand.

"there are various kinds of lantern rings, normally categorized by their color, powered by the emotion that said color is based upon."

"Known colors include red, green, yellow, blue, indigo, violet, orange, white and black. Each color dependent on a specific emotion.... Are you kids still with me?"
he asks, noting some of the class' eyes wandering off.

"Now, I know this all sounds nothing more than a super complicated moodring, and I know I'm not the best teacher, I'm still in evaluation for instructor status ya know, but this is all very important... you'll never know when you might run into a black lantern out there..."

He throws a look towards the Dude, as if to ask for permission, he gets a nod.
"Okay, since I think you all would be better off with first hand experience," he pulls a brown leather bag out of nowhere, "I want you to form a line up here and pull out a ring from this here bag."

Green = Willpower
Red = Rage
Yellow = Fear
Blue = Hope
Indigo = Compassion

White = Life

The Love one is actually the yandere "I'll make you love me and we'll be together forever in this crystal stasis cocoon" type of love.

As the class lines up to to each take out a ring from the bag, you see Erica pull out a violet one, Susan a blue one and Hina an indigo ring.
When it's finally your turn to reach into your bag, you feel around inside until a ring, by some unknown force, flies into your grasp.

You pulled out an orange ring, the only one of your color you've seen in your class so far, and head back to your seat.

After everyone has their own rings, Guy continues his lecture.
"Now, those there are replica rings made by the nerds down in R&D. They're mostly just used for training, but they have all of the abilities of the real ones, with the very same limitations."
He pulls out some kind of lantern and places it on the pedestal, "This is a power lantern, it's a battery of sorts for a lantern ring, but those ones you have right there are powered off your Devices and your own majaikal resources."

"As for the emotions that power those rings, Green is willpower, red is anger, yellow is fear, blue is hope, white is life, orange is greed, indigo is compassion, and violet is life."
"the rings you got were not randomly drawn, each one is designed to find a host most suited to it's emotional power source."
"Now..." he taps his ring against the lantern, green light fills the room. "let's begin."

Interesting fact about the Blue Rings.
They function like a Green Ring when working alone, but they get supercharged if they're near a Green Ring.

You found yourself on a desolate field.
Dried earth under your feet, and a gray sky above your head.
Guy's voice begins speaking in your head.
"Okay boy, I see you got an orange one... Aint that a doozy."
"Greed? Why did I get greed?"
"Best ask yourself that, not me. Like I said, the rings select the users."
"... so what do I do now?"
"Okay, I want you to put on the ring and try using it. It's activation oath should pop into your head as soon as you wear it."
You hesitate to slip on the orange ring of avarice, but eventually do so.

Like a tsunami, you feel yourself overcome with greed.
Greed for what, you're not sure, but you know one thing.
You want it.

Words form in your head and slip out of your mouth as if you've known them long ago.
"What's mine is mine and mine and mine,
And mine, and mine, and mine!
Not yours!"
The ring glows orange, bathing you in light, your shirt's color changing in accordance to orange.
You smile as you look into the dazzling light on your finger.

Now you know what you want.
It's EVERYTHING.
And one way or another, everything shall be yours.

>>
>Roll for random ring color
>Have the character's defining emotion arbitrarily decided
What.
>>
>>25065633
It was selected from a limited number of rings of each color and a dwindling pool of candidates.

It's sort of like how at the time that Hal Jordan was selected, Guy Gardner was actually a candidate that met the requirements, but Hal was closer so the ring said, "fuck it, close enough".
An argument for Indigo could be made for Hayate, but the random jostling of the rings in extreme close proximity to each other as well as the dwindling pool of potential users as the class cycled through the bag can be represented by the roll of the dice.
Since we ARE actually near the back of the classroom, the Orange Ring might have been analyzing its chances of getting a compatible user, kept getting sniped by the other rings, then saw Shirou coming up and said "FUCK THAT SHIT!" and went with Hayate because he had the closest match to the emotional criteria before Shirou.
>>
>>25065711
That is assuming that there was only enough rings in the bag for each student have one, and that the orange one HAD to choose someone.

On the other hand the bag could have had enough rings of each type that every student got the ring color most suited to them.
In which case I call bull on having it randomly decided OOC, then be told IC it wasn't random.

Unless the instructor was lying, of course...
>>
>>25065839
There's ALWAYS the chance that the instructor is lying.
And assuming that there were enough rings of every color in the bag is just as bad as assuming there was only the number of students, especially since this isn't about creating new Lanterns or getting to know the emotional problems of the students, but to simply get them familiar with the general capabilities of the Lantern Rings.
>>
Hell, just as a guess, he could have shoved 8 of each kind of ring in there, but only 1 or 2 Reds and Oranges in there.

Anyways, even though our ring was "randomly chosen by the dice," our character doesn't know that. Just like how characters don't know when they blow a knowledge check in D&D.
>>
>>25065839
I think we lucked into having the ring most suited to our personality, and then LG just ran with it. It's entirely possible LG was going to say it was random IC, but after we rolled orange, he changed his mind.
>>
>>25065879
You're right, since they're 'training' rings, I bet they just fill the user with the corresponding emotion, in order for the trainee to get a feel for what it's like to use a ring.

We do have a little greed, so that could be an explanation why we got that ring, but not so much that we'd be able to use a 'real' orange ring.

>They function like a Green Ring when working alone, but they get supercharged if they're near a Green Ring.

That's not quite right. Without a green ring nearby, blue rings give flight, and a protective aura, that's all (can use the aura to make massive shields). With a green ring nearby they unlock the function to create constructs, heal (both physically and mentally) and do some pretty crazy powerful stuff like de-age a star (explained by something about Hope being the strongest emotion but only if you have the Will to actually do something with it). Meanwhile any green rings near blue rings become even more powerful and are constantly charging (I think they hit 200% capacity without even trying and can go beyond that if you push them). A squad of blue and green lanterns working together are insanely strong.
>>
>>25067512
