Chronicles of a Brighter Future
Or Bright Quest

The Quest So Far:
A man named Bright Noah joins Zeon (For Reasons Yet Unexplored), and is promoted to Captain of the Musai class cruiser ‘Longfellow’ for his actions during the One Week Battle / Battle of Loum. Promoted to Major by Lord Dozle Zabi and sent to find a rumored Experimental EFF Mobile Suit under development in Side 7, Bright Noah and Major Char Aznable split up, Bright taking the Loum Shoal Field route as Char takes his Musai Kai ‘Flamel’ around Side 6.
In Loum, Bright’s Zaku patrol was ambushed by the true Midnight Insertion Team. With his ambush failed and his ship critically wounded, Captain Brutus Sharp of the EFF Salamis ‘Nero’ surrenders to Bright, leading the Pezun technical Sergeant Christine Ask to find partial plans for the RX-78NT-1 hidden in the depths of the ‘Nero’s communications console.
The plans are sent to Lord Dozle Zabi via the Research and Development Asteroid of Pezun. President Clinton Sherk of the Riah Republic requested military protection from Dozle’s Space Attack Force, as the discovery of the RX-78NT-1 on Riah soil upset the balance of peace between Riah and the EFF.

Major Char Aznable and the advance defense elements from Pezun held the line, forcing the EFF Hatte Fleet to retreat after sustaining significant losses. With the Pezun Defense Envelope now covering Riah, the EFF will need to amass more fleet assets before they can attack again.

Updates and Quest Times announced @3xFaster. https://twitter.com/3xFaster

Just want the story? We’ve got you covered!
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ttdw9IPGPHVyXvsb91RiM5OVaRwpQ86bMVCHuZpo2QY/edit

Quest runs from 10am, PST, until 2pm PST OR until interest peters out / I need to sleep.
The system:
See Image or the Pastebin for a detailed ruleset. pastebin.com/e3q4q0MP
That'll tell you more than you wanted to know.

Basic rules still apply (Grey Box): Roll d20: Highest dice roll out of the first three rolls is used for the Dice Check (DC), while all three rolls are averaged to determine other internal factors, if applicable. Natural 20’s and Critical Failures (1) supersede all other rolls made.

Roll d100: d100’s are used for different factors, the most applicable of which will be listed at the call for the roll. High is always better.

Rolling for Time: When asked to roll for time, the first roll response will be used, with additional rolls used as necessary. This is the only time low rolls are desired.

NewType powers, since they are plot breaking, will be based on a point system.
For every natural 20 you roll, you'll get .5 NTP. If you roll an 11 on a d20, it will be worth .25 of a NTP. Double rolls on a D100 will also garner .25 NTP.

You can exchange 1 NTP for an automatic critical success / plot breaking idea. You can also exchange 1 NTP to reduce an opposing main character's plot armor by 1/4 or 1/2 on any actions you take against them - the amount reduced will be situational, and depend on what you're planning on doing.

We now return you to 0800, July 31st, 0079.
Location: Loum.
Person of Interest: Bright Noah
In Need Of: Coffee.

Bright had pried all the details he needed about the Zudah’s from Ceff, and decided to broach a different topic. “Tanks.”

“You’re welco- wait. Tanks? As in plural?” Ceff raised an eyebrow. “Do I even want to know?”

“I need to disguise them,” Bright continued. “Stuff them into cargo boxes, or something. And mount some single use, solid fuel rockets to them.” He held his coffee cup to the side as Ceff boggled at him. By the time Jane had noticed his pose, and handed him a fresh cup of coffee, the old man was stroking his chin in thought. Christine was still eyeing him, though.

“I might be able to do something. Need to borrow your Zaku’s, and I’ll need my team back for it, though.”

“I’ll grant you limited authority to order Jean out for materials procurement while we’re still in Loum. I want them disguised well enough that the Slammer’s Magella Tanks will pass unnoticed under the nose of EFF inspectors - separate them if you have too, but leave them attack capable.”

“Why are you disguising tanks?” Christie asked.

“It’s my thought that, if the EFF are developing Mobile Suits, they’re likely to be developing a ship to carry them,” Bright said.

“And if we’re docking in the military bay...” Ceff trailed off, the wheels spinning. “Yes, I can see where you’re going with this.”

“Where is he going with this? Because I’m confused,” Christine muttered.

“Patience my dear – you’ll no doubt figure it out once we get working on it. C’mon, back to engineering. It’s time for Science!”

Bright watched as Ceff spun about, trailing an annoyed technician and the two MP’s. He took a sip of the new coffee, and then blinked. He usually drank his black, and this was as blonde and sweet as, well, the woman it had belonged too if the faint smudge of lipstick was any indication. He turned slightly to look at Jane, who was lounging in her chair, cradling his cup in her hands and smirking at him. “Problem, Bright?”

>As far as I'm concerned, Hijinks are serious business. But, then again, I grew up watching the likes of MSG, Go Lion, and Ranma 1/2.

>Let's say, though serious, there's high potential for wacky involved depending on how you handle it, thus they're in the Hijinks section.

>>25071365
>We've gotten more 'Tony Takezaki's Gundam than 'Gundam-san', as far as setting tone goes. As such, no. That isn't how the mask was obtained. If you're curious, you can have Bright ask Char sometime.
>>
>>25071449
Oh, I'm sure there's the potential for hijinks.
But we do need to get Mohai dressed for his role, and we need to pick out an identity.

And of course, Mohai needs to brief himself on the role he's taking, as much info as he can get.

You plan for everything, including sudden bodysnatchers. And while crew improves itself, you can prepare for infiltration in peace and quiet.

Bright remained quiet as he drank his coffee in the CIC, Jane watching him all the while. The silence hung between them as he walked past her, and carefully set the cup down next to Jane’s Keurig coffee maker. “It’s a little different than I’m used to,” he finally admitted. “But I find I’m growing fond of it.”

Her self-satisfied grin wavered as she asked “The coffee? Or me?”

Bright just smiled as he hit the door, heading towards his quarters.

> [X] Covert Bright: Pick a new Identity for the stealth op.

>You can also spend 5 NTP and get the same bonus.

*Ahem.*
Char Aznable is really Char Aznable. As in, the REAL Char Aznable. Notice the lack of planing and desire to just jump in. And annoyed at Gaia's faking the Texas Colony accent when he grew up there and threw it off to not sound like a 'hick' while hanging out with Garma.

Bright Noah's previous name was Edward Mass. He checked his hair to see if he needed to dye it again. And the contacts are color-corrective. They mask his blue eyes to brown-ish. Just imagine pic with a perm.

Char, I think you need to be a bit more obvious about these things.

And yes, this has been canon the entire time.

Once in his Quarters, Bright made a bee line to his bathroom, and opened the kit bag under his sink. After removing one of the many boxes of Just for Men – Black he kept for his own use, he set it aside to bring to Mohai later, for his XO’s assumption of the role of Brutis Sharp.

I believe that's all the votes. Let's go.
Because if we used Bright Noah, then someone who knew the real Bright Noah will show up.

Cause there's totally not gonna be anybody who knows Edward mass there

Not that we know that
>>
>>25074158
Well, no. Edward Mass was a made-up person, unlike Char Aznable and Noah Bright who are real people before having their identities stolen by Casval.

Disguise Self As:
> {X} Bleach Hair – Resume Edward Mass Identity

After a moment of thought, a cruel smile tugged at his lips. Yes. Yes, that could work. No one would see it coming.

He quickly pulled the items he’d need from his kit bag and set to work.

----------

TWO HOURS LATER.

He had gotten several double takes the moment he’d stepped onto the bridge. Gadem, on the main screen and telling Mohai the details on the prisoner transfer, came to an abrupt halt, and blinked. “Well, I was going to say we’ve gotten all of them, but it looks like we missed one.”

“Missed one? How?” Mohai asked.

“Gods, man, you’ve got one right behind you!”

Mohai turned, looked, and stared.

Bright looked as innocent as he possibly could.

“Okay,” Mohai managed after anther moment. “Who are you, and why are you wearing my Captain’s shoes?”

“Haven’t gotten a pair of captured footwear in my size yet, Bret,” Bright said, shrugging. At the sound of his voice, the other man visibly relaxed.

“With all due respect, sir, why are you dressed in a Federation uniform, and what have you done with your hair?”

“I’m under cover. As you will be, as soon as you get a haircut and use this,” Bright returned, tossing the box at Mohai, who caught it and mouthed the words ‘Just for Men, Black’ before looking back to Bright.

“I don’t follow.”

“You’re a dead ringer for that Salamis captain, Brutus Sharp. So, you’re going to be in ‘command’ of our little covert operation.”

Mohai tightened his jaw, but said nothing.

“Captain Gadem, a pleasure as always. Bright Noah, Zeon in Disguise,” Bright said to the screen. “Taking the prisoners back to Pezun?”

“Ah. Umn. No. Solomon. Are you sure this is Major Noah? His eyes are blue.”

“It’s him, sir,” Mohai ground out. “Are you certain I need to cut my hair?”

“Yes.”

“Shit.”

Bright turned back to the screen. “So, if you’re headed back to Solomon, would you mind passing a message back to Lord Zabi for me?”

“Why not?” Gadem asked himself. “I’ll be heading that way as it is.”

Bight went to his desk and authorized transfer of a few documents. Included in the bunch were his notes on covering his command’s presence in Loum as a nuclear armament disposal unit, along with a few other things. “Much obliged, Captain Gadem.”

>What Do?
>>
>>25074787
Mohai needs to read up on everything we have on Brutus Sharp.
We need to build a fake entry for ourselves in the crew roster.

Then let's check on the commando's, see if they've killed Ceff yet.
>>
>>25074856
Who else is going undercover?
>>
>>25074937
The commandoes were going to take the dock and White Base; who WAS on our strike team? Most of the MS pilots were going to be piloting their MS as part of the operation, weren't they?

Though I think on part of the Commandoes need to stay with their tanks; the others can come with us.

But the first thing we need to do is scope out the research facility.

Ah, wait, at least one of the pilots will be with us to pilot the Decoy Zudah.

Everyone with a cover identity needs to go over it together

Or at least people who's covers would know each other
>>
>>25075112
We told them to do that already, and Conty had put the identities together.

After Gadem had signed off and the two Pazok class cargo ships and Gadam’s Papua had pulled away, Mohai approached Bright with the box. “Sir, I don’t know the first thing about using this kind of… thing.”

“It starts by opening the box, Bret. And reading the directions,” Bright said gently, as he picked up the phone and dialed the CIC. “Jane? Bright. Can you get me everything you have on that Brutis Sharp fellow? Yes, the EFF Captain of the ‘Nero’ we captured. I need a brief for Mohai. Umn humn. I’ll send him to you in an hour, then. Thank you.” Mohai was still looking at the box as if it was toxic, and bright put a hand on his shoulder. “Look, Mohai, I need you to do this. You’re the only one that can.”

“It’s not that, sir,” the larger man said. “It’s that my wife is going to kill me when she finds out.”

--------------

Bright decided to drop into engineering to see how far Ceff had gotten on the plans to disguise the tanks, but the man wasn’t in. Neither were the Pezun technicians. One of the other engineers told him to try cargo bay four, where the tanks were held.

>Roll a d20 for effectiveness of Tank Disguise.

>Enough crew to manage the captured Salamis and pass as an undercover op team. So, perhaps fifty to seventy five of the 'Siegfried's crew, along with the 24 commandos.

>You folks also need to determine who will take command of the 'Sigfried' while Bright and Mojai are spying on Side 7. Bright joaked about putting Jean or Lourie at the helm, but joking aside, both are good choices. The 'Sigfried's gunnery sergeant, helmsman, and sensor operators are also good choices - none of them have names yet, so feel free to name them.

can't think of any disguises which don't involve tampering with the armor of the tank other than putting it in a crate and covering it in scrap...

I though we were taking Lourie with us... Jean should prove a competent temp. commander...

>>25075167
We can glue and tape on pipes and rubber hosing to make the tanks look like farm equipment. For the upper part, use high-velocity tape to attach pieces of cut steel to make the flying turret appear to be a civilian recreational flight vehicle.

How about we take Lourie and Jean, and we have the Helmsman take temporary control?

I never did quite understand why the main gun detached. It's woefully inefficient. The Magella design is all kinds of ZEON STRONG.
