Having chastised Rose, she has fled your garden, leaving you with the rose that is her life.
You gently brush one of the petals, admiring it for its beauty; a thorn pricks your hand, but you ignore it. It seems a pity to part with such a beautiful thing… But alas, this rose is for another.
You turn, and go to give the rose into the care of its new owner, Scarlet. Hopefully, she will teach Rose to behave herself better. If not… Well, the problem will solve itself.

> What will you say to Scarlet to congratulate her on bringing Rose safely back to you?
>>

1.
You are Isabella Katarina Markova, twelfth of the line of Carmilla, thirteen generations from Dracula, the First. This places you with enough blood and power to make you a minor noble in Shadescast, the city of the vampires, and possess your own castle- which does not necessarily have sensible geometry, and which is not always in the same place. Though your physical appearance is that of a young girl, you are actually three and a half centuries old.

2.

3.
You spend your time responding to requests from other vampires for lore, and holding tea parties and other social events, both with humans and vampires. On occasion, you indulge in adding one or two of them to your collection of porcelain dolls…

4.

5.
Recently, you were attacked by a human vampire hunter who managed to temporarily kill you. Upon rising from death, you captured him and left him in the tender hands of your doll collection... but first he managed to majorly deface your castle and burn a portion of your library, including some hard-to-replace texts. Signs point to him having been hired by a rival vampire... and one who was here, and managed to take one of your dolls.

6.

7.
Currently, you are working to turn the mayor of Mark into your soft, gooey servant. The process will take one or two weeks more. You also intend to invest in the airship trade- a process speeded considerably when the chattel you acquired to raise money were vastly overvalued by a vampiric noble by the name of Blackford. As a result, you gained control of his airship yards in Mark. When you returned from formally transferring control, you discovered that one of the slaves you kept had gone missing in your absence- So you had Scarlet, one of your Dolls' creations, drag her back to the Castle for you. In return, Scarlet has been given Rose as her servant.

Oh dear, formatting. Oh well.

An archive of all threads but the first may be found here:

(You can find the first with the tag "Vampire Quest", but you probably won't miss that much.)

I'm feeling filled with unwarranted importance today, because the quest has just broken the 20-vote mark on a few of its threads.

First, get some tea and ask if she'd like a cup.

When congratulating her turn on a tiny bit of our voice's power to make her feel more appreciated by us and a bit more loyal, take our time, we don't want to rush this in the least bit.

"You did a remarkable job Scarlet, you did as I wished and retrieved the errant girl with minimal fuss and great alacrity. You have performed beyond my expectations and I wish to reward you for that.

Firstly, Rose is yours now, she is to act as your attendant and assistant in all matters that you wish. Her life is bound to this rose that I am giving you. Feel free to punish and educate her as you see fit, though try not to break her.

Secondly, you have proven yourself competent, clever, and trustworthy, I wish to bestow upon you the honor of being my lady-in-waiting. To act as my companion and assistant and to be rewarded for your service commensurately."

Every proper noble needs a lady-in-waiting.

>>

>>
>>25142176
Scarlet's Acumen is 40. She has two degrees of success.

Your Eeriness is 65. You have three degrees of success.

You beat her by one degree, and your gentle compulsion is unnoticed.
>>
>>25142207
We are awesome at mindfuckery.
>>
>>25142176
Question, there have been occasional references to us getting more powerful personally. How do we do that?
>>
>>25142193
Eh.... good enough I think. But does Scarlet get a roll since she has mindfuckery too?
>>
>>25142240
She already got her roll.
>>
>>25142240
The 16 was her roll, thankfully we're better at mindfuckery than her by a decent margin.
>>
>>25142225
Eating nastier vampires than you is the fastest way.

Of course, training can help, and you have plenty of time.

>>25142240

>>25142158

She only gets that roll because she knows about compulsion herself.
>>
>>25142264
Easy peasy, except not totally. I'm guessing all it takes is one fucked up roll to completely undue all the good will we've built. Maybe we can engineer some situation to drastically lower her acuity before trying it?
>>
Oh yeah, and we also need to make that wing of themed rooms.

I knew there was something I was forgetting.
>>
>>25142308
Most of the loyalty we get from her should be through more mundane methods due to that, treating her well, giving her toys to play with, having tea with her, and confiding in her and letting her confide in us.

A lady-in-waiting is more than just a servant, it's much closer to a companion or friend, and considering her own abilities we can't just throw magic at the problem without risking failure.

We'll teach her proper etiquette in time, how to dance, and all other things that a noble ought to know, doll her up, in the giving her nice clothes way not the other way, and perhaps even introduce her to proper society. We improve her station and earn her loyalty and we'll be fine.

We'll be slaymates, we'll torture, bend, break, and twist people, together.
>>
>>25142308
Essentially, if she rolls successfully she catches you out. That will probably mean bad things for you.
>>
>>25142390
You emerge from your black-and-red rose garden into the twilight of Shadescast. Scarlet is waiting patiently for you by the path, the waterfall of her bloody hair leaving a dark stain on the soil.

"Hello, Scarlet. I'm here to give you a very special rose."

You extend the rose up towards her, and she takes it from your tiny hand, leaving a stain of blood on it that you lick at absently.

"Careful, now. That's Rose you have there. Not the flower, but the girl. Her life is in that blossom you hold, so mind it stays healthy; you wouldn't want your new servant to die because you forgot to water her, now would you?"

Scarlet smiles, and braids the rose into her crimson hair, the deep red of the rose almost the same color.

"No, Lady Isabella, I would not."

Though you can't see Scarlet's eyes through her hair, you take a guess as you pour honey into your voice.

"You've done well, Scarlet. You brought back Rose alive and unharmed. I believe you would make an excellent lady-in-waiting. Would you like to stay here and become part of my plans for the future? Would you be my confidant when I have no others I can trust, and my red right hand when others stand in my way?"

Scarlet… You're not certain exactly, but you're fairly certain that she would have blinked if you could have seen her eyes.

"Erm, well…"

You take a risk and decide to prod her a little more.

"Please, I need someone I can speak to. Everyone else around me is too dull or too untrustworthy."

She considers. You have a feeling she can see the trap laid out in front of her, the promise of a place by your side you offered to so many others before her, centuries ago…

She slowly smiles.

It would appear that she likes it.

"Yes, Lady Isabella. What is your command?"

> Just what, exactly, is your command?
>>
>>25142391
Which is precisely why I didn't want to use the power when giving the GOOD JOB SON speech. It's unnecessary and partly dishonest to need to use the power on something you're honest about anyway. It expresses lack of self-confidence if you need to power your words to say anything.
>>
>>25142405
"For now, tend to the estate and check on your new ward. If I have direct need of your services and powers, make no mistake that I will call on you. For now, I have some research to begin conducting.

"There's someone in Shadescast who wants me either dead or royally peeved, and I intend to find out who that rat is."
>>
>>25142405
First, ask her to bend down and give her a chaste kiss, not in any sexual way but to further cement our bond and show that we trust her.

Also, she's pretty much the only one of our servants allowed to call us Lady Isabella.

"There is quite a bit you have to learn, a lady-in-waiting is expected to accompany her mistress to all sorts of social functions and is expected to know of all manners of etiquette, dance, poetry, and other noble pasttimes. But I have the utmost confidence in you.

I shall start by teaching you of tea and you shall join me for a cup of the delicious brew. In addition there is a problem that has caused me no end of vexation.

Someone sent a Hunter after me, he is known as Fluffy now, and one of my dolls has gone missing, I believe there was a single entity behind both of these things and I intend on finding out who. We shall discuss the problem, attempt to determine who would do such a thing, and should that not bear fruit we will investigate further whether it be through mundane investigation or the usage of our magics."
>>
>>25142405
What does Shadescast look like from the view of our estate? It's good to have an image of our surroundings. For that matter, how grand does our Castlevania look?
>>
>>25142530
Keep in mind that considering Scarlet's nature, we can only really show her off during ventures in Shadescast. She'd be horribly out of place otherwise.
>>
>>25142434
>>partly dishonest

I'll grant you the unnecessary risk, but after all the murder, slavery, and blood magick I find it a bit perplexing that we're drawing a line in the sand at partial dishonesty.
>>
>>25142564
Even vampiric nobility has standards, particularly among their own staff, assuming they're nice to them.
>>
>>25142557
Well yes, that bit is obvious, but the only ones with proper society that matters is Shadesclast and vampiric society. The rest are far from refined and elegant.
>>
>>25142564
It's not that, it's just that it has a chance of throwing a spanner in our works, and gives us very little gain hen we could have accomplished these things normally.
>>
>>25142530
this.
>>
>>25142626
Hour's break before I have anything for you, I'm writing up shadescast and eating supper.

(Sorry for the delay!)
>>
>>25142434
>It expresses a lack of self-confidence if you need to power your words to say anything.

Yeah, not really. We're trying to mold and shape her in ways that, given her nature, charisma, reason and temptation are insufficient motivators. If we gave her just the GOOD JOB SON speech, she gains a lasting measure of self-confidence and a temporary positive attachment to the act of earning our approval. We just reversed that or at least shifted the impact so that our approval is linked to her feeling of self validation. It's an important if subtle mechanism of control we're trying to establish in Scarlet and magic accelerates that process.
>>
>>25142649
Just reiterating thoughts from the end of the last thread. The current train of thought is that whoever sicced the hunter on us wanted to ruin us to some degree, likely as reprisal for something we did against him/her, involuntary or otherwise. We should start by considering who we managed to piss off over the past couple years that could warrant a visit from a hunter.

Ok well we got away with it and wedged the door open with magic, now we can move from there. The question is whether future attempts will become easier. If we can degrade her resistant then molding her would be an acceptable risk. If not, best to leave her be. As stated she -isn't- really fond of us, she just feels indebted. Remember, all fine speeches aside she was our prisoner before she was our friend.

What next guys? I vote sweet Shadecast party. We'll gin up some terribly auspicious excuse for us to invite people into our home and hold a gala ball. We can work the room and try to find out who is after us.

PARTY PREP MONTAGE!

I'm imagining some wacky animated still frame montage of Scarlet and Isabella hunting hobos, set to saccharine J-pop music.

Lets just do the research thing. Remember, we have a careful reputation as a recluse, we can't ruin it now.
>>
>>25142784
I'd prefer to investigate some more before we do that. We need to narrow the field before we consider doing that, we don't even have any guarantee that the person who fucked us over will even come to our little soiree.

>>25142771
I'm not sure, it could work out for us, but honestly considering how bloody weird she is magically speaking I have no idea what'll happen from it. Might backfire.

Goddamnit Snapple! Now I'm going to have that image playing in the back of my head until Al updates...Well done.
>>
>>25142710
Let's start with past 6 months, maybe year, we'll look further back if need be but this doesn't seem like a plot that would have taken years to concoct. We could whip something like it up in under a month.

We don't get out much so it shouldn't be too hard, there's the people who come to visit, hopefully we keep a log of the people who we have consulted or turned away, and other than that we remember the few times we've gone out and what we did those times. Try to find something that could have offended someone who knew who and what we are.

The goal needn't be to catch the guy. That would be dangerous and confrontational. I just mean we can take a read on the city, hear rumours, and meet some new characters. And yes, we would plan it carefully with all the necessary precautions and excuses to maintain our facade of weakness.

>>25142771
Also remember feeding blood (her whole body eats blood) can turn people. That could be... complicated.
>>
>>25143439
I think vampire tend to nurse grudges for years before acting on them. Time isn't exactly a motivating factor after all...What I'm trying to say is our window for recently pissing someone off is probably the last twenty years or so, and it could be much older than that.
>>
>>25143501
If someone was nursing a grudge for that long and preparing for that long I don't think it would've just been some shmuck hitting us with a hammer, burning a few things, and breaking a window. That's impolite and inconvenient, but really not worthy of a decade old grudge. This feels like a quick and dirty 'fuck you', not the culmination of a long-term grudge.
>>
>>25143484
I am aware. I thought the mechanic for turning some one was activated on their death, so yes feeding her would give her a probability of turning (one drop? I'm guessing a low probability) over the next few months. If she gets killed. That said, do the same rules even apply to flesh constructs?
>>
>>25143564
I didn't say anything about preparing, just letting it fester until either some unexpected opportunity arose or something incidental pushed the culprit past their snapping point. The Hunter thing decks of recklessness, so we really should consider misdirection as another motive. Could someone have gotten into and out of the castle while we were dead? Or a mole in our staff escaping with something that we might not notice or assume destroyed in the fire?
>>
>>25143439
One place we should look is the identity of our missing Doll.

Someone took the Doll, it's plausible that the Doll was the motivation for the attack. We should enquire if our missing Doll had any next of kin.
>>
>>25143484
Sorry Tsunny, seems I mistook you for someone else. My apologies.
>>
>>25143564
Yes, but that could just be to get our attention and lure us into something more. They could also have been riding on Fluffy's senses at the time to try to scout us out, while giving him a pretext to come here and do a small amount of destruction in the process.

When we checked Fluffy, did we find traces of that kind of tampering? Granted, if the vampire was stronger than us he could've potentially taken a 20 (or, well, 0) on his eeriness roll (or at least had an almost unbeatable amount of success).
>>
>>25143651
That's plausible and something we shouldn't rule out but until we learn more, it's nothing we can work with.

The immediate avenues of investigation we have is: people we've had dealings with in the last 6 months-year and any next of kin our missing Doll might have.
>>
>>25143727
If the missing doll had any living next of kin then we really need to be less sloppy in the future.
>>
>>25142405
Do as you please for now, I will visit you later after you and Rose are settled, I must retire and think on some disconcerting matters. Send The Angel to me, I may have a task for him.

I think we should get the Angel out, have him inspect the castle, see if theres any breaches or signs of damage/tampering. If someone broke in and stole the doll that could be trouble, the next thing I think we need to do is contact our friend the Earl of Blackford. He's traded with us in the past, perhaps we can ask him for some assistance, he likely has a larger presence in Shadescast and can throw a wider, more thorough search if we ask nicely. Perhaps offer him a guest of honor position at the gala we should definitely hold.
>>
>>25143837
You mean like how we captured all those cattle from the streets and didn't check to see if they had any family?

Granted they were hobos, and were liable to disappear anyway, but a similar instance of capture could've produced a doll with living family.

Hell, given that we recently did something that could've allowed next of kin to remain alive, this means that we may have done it before.
>>
>>25143937
>contact our friend the Earl of Blackford and ask him for some assistance
Noooo! We just took his shirt in a deal.

It was a legitimate deal but he's still going to be a little pissed about it.
>>
>>25144062
Oh crap. Yeah, support this post.
>>
>>25144062
Wasn't he happy about the deal? That's why it was so effective, he thought he was getting the better out of it. It would be a good idea either way, if he is miffed, this will mend bridges, if he is still pleased this can help us squeeze him into our pocket.

Also Alucard, does Isabella have any relatives, siblings by the same sire? Actual blood relatives that may have been turned by another sire?
>>
You look out over the city as you consider your answer, taking in the view from your newly-planted garden.

The spires and crags of Shadescast are wholly confined within a massive cavern in the bowels of the earth.
Distant 'stars' shine from within the stalactites at the top of the cavern, illuminating the city below.

Your castle, like most other parts of significant architecture in Shadescast, is made of the same rock as the cavern itself, carved and shaped into a grand, gothic architecture that is half-submerged into a massive stalagmite rising from the cavern floor. A steep, winding flight of spiral stairs leads downward to the shantytown slums where the commoner vampires and chattel live, but anyone of consequence will simply fly to your doorstep. Certain particularly high-ranking vampires have their castles in stalactites, completely divorced from the cavern floor.

From here, you can see a dozen distant points of light, the only marks in the darkness of the cavern to show the castles of other vampires worth speaking to.

Within one of those towers lies the vampire that stole one of your dolls. You can feel it in your blood.

You nod to Scarlet.

"There is much you will need to learn. If you are to be presentable to the nobility of this great city, you will have need of etiquette, dance, and many other small necessities of the courtly world. But I am good at teaching others; and I have no doubt that you will be a stellar student."

You take one of her hands, and lead her back into the castle.

"We will start with tea. In Grand Victoria, tea is a practically a religion in and of itself; those vampires that adopt their customs, who are many, will expect you to know the careful rituals of the drink. To them, it is only second to blood in importance."

You gently tug on Scarlet's hand, and she obediently leans down to listen to you more closely. You whisper into her ear…

"And finally, someone has sent a hunter after me. You know the hunter as my loyal dog, Fluffy. That same person has taken one of my dolls. We will discuss this, and determine who is most likely to wish me harmed; and if we can come to no agreement, we will have to resort to detective work."

You Scarlet lightly on her cheek, enjoying the taste of blood on your tongue.

"I have no doubt that you will serve me well in this, Scarlet."

> Will you begin the investigation now? If so, where will you start?
>>
>>25144212
The doll. Let's try to find her background.
>>
>>25144129
>Wasn't he happy about the deal?
We took his fucking shirt. The only reason he was okay with it at the time is because he was paying attention to our pretty serving girl and not the details of our business.

>It would be a good idea either way, if he is miffed, this will mend bridges,
Going to someone you just ripped off and asking for favours is not the best way to mend fences.
>>
>>25144212
go over people who don't like us.
>>
>>25144212
How did she react to getting a smooch?

Begin the investigation.

Start by drinking tea with Scarlet, educate her while doing so, and look through any logs and recorded things about people who we have consulted for in the last year or so, especially anyone who visited us multiple times, if need be we'll look further, but let's keep it at this level for now. Hopefully we have this recorded or we'll have to look through our memory for the answers which will be more troublesome.

In addition rack our memory for any notable outings we've made in the same time period and people who we may have interacted poorly with.
>>
>>25144302
Yes, yes, we did take his shirt. But where has Alucard indicated that the Earl was upset with the deal?
I just don't want to jump to conclusions if we have an opportunity available to us.
>>
>>25144286
Second. Good as place to start as any.
>>
>>25144129
Isabella has an older sister. Older by about a century, though like Isabella, she looks about 13. They don't get along. Their sire is dead, so far as they know, and they should, because they killed him.
>>
>>25144129
He was distracted by a particular slave. Either he knows something we don't (unlikely but possible) and actually fleeced us, or he will recognize that we shafted him once his interest in that slave has waned. Whether that would lead to greater respect for us or a desire to tear our throat out for the loss of face is debatable. My guess is both.
>>
>>25144404
All of Isabella's human family are centuries-dead.
>>
>>25144404
Gentleanons, we have a suspect.
>>
>>25144212
Beginning the search as soon as possible would be good, do we know which doll was taken precisely? Perhaps we should visit the dolls and see if they can direct us to some clues or at least we can gain some insight by the ones left behind. Perhaps there was something special about the doll, like the other one that seems to have a good knack for fleshcrafting as evidenced in scarlet, angel, and hunter.

As we're travelling, lets summon our head of house and begin laying out preparations for a gala too. If we find that it was one of the local nobles that did it, we can turn the gala into either a tribunal, an execution, or a diversion. Or any combination of the 3.
>>
>>25144404
> like Isabella, she looks about 13
I take it our sire was a rather creepy sort of fellow?

>Their sire is dead, so far as they know, and they should, because they killed him.
Damn we were hardcore back in the day.
>>
>>25144404
>So far as they know

That seems like an awful thing to not be sure about. Wouldn't we have had to personally murder him in his casket?
>>
>>25144404
Definitely prime suspect, here. Though it's too early to discount other possibilities of course. We need to consolidate all info on her, and see if we have any clues.
>>
>>25144437
Possible, hard to say for sure, we'll investigate further, don't count anyone out at this juncture or get too attached to it.

And I think she'd go for something bigger than just burning some books if she really wanted to hurt us.

>>25144404
Did our sire have a thing for 12-13 year old girls?

What's our sister's name? Is there a particular reason why we dislike each other?

>>25144404
What is our older sibling's name?
>inb4 Francesca
that's my vote anyway.
We're linked by blood to an extent, would we have noticed her presence if she visited covertly or otherwise?
>>25144476
I think killed here is referring to a full on stake in the box. Alucard can probably provide details if we take a trip down that memory lane.

>>25144410
This is what I'm talking about, the Earl might not be upset with the deal, I agree here, he might have even developed a healthy respect for us.
>>
>>25144464
Yes, and that is the direct reason why he is now as dead as a pair of very, very pissed off vampires can make you.

>>25144476
Yes. You did. You staked him, cut off his head, doused the body in holy water, burned what was left, and scattered the rest under a sunlit sky.

But he was older than you, and very old vampires have a bad habit of living through things they really shouldn't.

It's as sure as you and your sister could make it.
>>
>>25144450
>begin laying out preparations for a gala too.
1, inviting a Large group of Vampires into your home sounds like a terrible idea in general.

2, Being civilised and respecting the Guests Right is a big thing for us. Issuing an invitation to our home, only to use it as a trap sounds most uncouth.

Vampires are fucked up 'people.'

Our sister's name was Evangeline Fransesca Markova when we knew her, but since then she's moved up in the world and is now Evangeline Fransesca Scarlet, eighth of the Line of Remilia.

That was about when we stopped speaking to her.
>>
>>25144568

Also, I think it's a pretty bad idea.
We're an eccentric recluse with a penchant for the occult, we should keep up that image.

Could we come up with an excuse? Some reason why we're obligated to throw a party? Maybe dad's birthday memorial for extra irony.

So, hosting a gala should be mostly safe, because the guests would play nice.

But turning it into any sort of trap would get us fucked.

That about the sum of it?

Okay, it seems unlikely that she'd go after us, given that she's up to 8th of the line she's got 4 generations on us now, she's going to be busy with her own politicking rather than going after us. If she was going after us to tie up loose ends she wouldn't just go to inconvenience us I don't think.

Yes. Only the insane break the laws of hospitality in Shadescast. The punishment is... inventive. By the standards of a group of vampires who have been trying to come up with ways to kill each other creatively for hundreds of years. You just don't screw with the Host Right.

Of course, that's not to say that the particularly stupid or clever don't occasionally do it, but you sure as hell don't get caught.

Twelfth in the line of Carmilla (the surname of which is Markova).

You are his heart and took that rank for yourself.

That was when you were about a hundred.

Then Eva started wrangling her way into power and spending less time with you, you had a falling out, and a century or so later she's in the higher courts and you're still a recluse sitting in your sire's castle.

You never really forgave her for that.
>>
>>25144894
I still say we should at least let the staff begin work on preparations for the gala while we ourselves and perhaps with some assistance from team A.S.H. (whut, angel, scarlet, hunter, it's like some really bad cartoon team name), lets start the investigation with the dolls.

OK, anons, let's get down to business.

1. Find out what our sister is up to.
2. Research the missing doll.
3. Quality time with servants. Chat with Scarlet, mind fuck Rose some more, see what the other goons are up to (especially Slab, we miss him!).
4. AIRSHIPS. Let's get that up and running. We were buying a trade fleet right?
5. Fuckyea Gala. Look, people keep assuming it's going to be a rushed out front for an attack but it needn't be. We'll hold a memorial service in honor of our poor departed father (taken from us too soon). Our sister will HAVE to come to that and behave. Neutral territory, good spot to scope her out safely. This is long term.

We first look into who has grudges against us or reason to fuck us over, then we investigate the dolls and determine who was capable of doing that and we narrow it down that way.

>>25145328
You rack your brain for anyone who you might have annoyed in the last three centuries.

One century spent as your sire's personal attack dog, amongst… other things. You might well have made some enemies here and not known it. You hope not.
Two centuries spent consulting on other vampires' projects.
Let's see, who might you have annoyed…
People who you consulted with on plans to take down other vampires: six.
Plans that were tried: six.
Plans that were successful: three.
That gives you at least six possible pissed-off vampires that might want to hurt or kill you.
Let's see, how many of those were within the last decade or so… only one. A blockheaded vampire from the line of Nosferatu who screwed up the plan you gave him on a silver platter. Sending a thug to smash your things is just the sort of stupid plan that he might come up with. What was his name again… Oh yes, Nalus. Nalus what's-his-middle-name Blackford, twentieth or so of the line of Orlov.
Hm, did you ever go out of the castle in that time…?
There was that trip to the Republic of Mori where you accidentally started a riot. Maybe someone's after you for that one. How long ago was that again? Oh right, that was only four years ago. My, does it ever all blur together. When was the other time, the one where you had to consult on getting another vampire a seat in Eyesocket's nobility? Oh yes. Twenty-eight years ago. Still within living memory, at least. Who was that again…? You can't recall. Maybe you kept a record of it somewhere.

eyesocket is a city? similar to shadecast? might be good to know the name of the one involved there, and the one who's seat was being taken

Lets talk to the dolls first though, ask them if they found anything, as usual it will be a one sided conversation but maybe they discovered some evidence we can use to kick-start our investigation
>>
>>25145803
A member of the Earl's house, who may or may not be his Childe. If so he's his great, great, great, great, etc grandchilde.
>>
>>25145717
Hum, Nalus.

The motive is about right. Not enough to flat out want us dead, but enough to want to ruffle our feathers a bit. Though, why wait till now? If he was as thick as we believe, then he probably would have acted recklessly and made a move right away.

Either way, it bears investigation. Find out what he was up to on the night the Hunter entered our Castlevania, any recent meetings, etc. Speak to an information broker if necessary.
>>
>>25145822
Is there any particular bond of loyalty in the Blackford house? Will our friend the Earl come after us if we moved against this Nalus chap?
>>
>>25145717
Okay, keep Nalus in the back of our mind, but don't automatically assume it was him.

It may have been the others before him, but as we don't remember much about them and it was a while ago we'll table them for now and pick them back up if need be. May have been Mori, unsure, doubtful that us helping someone getting a seat in Eyesocket led to this.

If we have a journal or notebook of this sort of thing dig it out of storage. I'd at the very least like more detail on Nalus Blackford, it seems relevant. How long ago was our deal with Nalus?

Share our findings and thoughts so far with Scarlet, get her take on it, then visit the dolls see if they can inform us somehow about the missing doll.

We may have to scry for it which'll not be the hardest thing in the world, we have some severe sympathetic connections to it what with having made it and having a chunk of its porcelain from the Hunter.

>>25145858

>>
>>25145885

What about the missing Doll. What do we know about who it was and where we got it from?
>>
>>25145885
Perhaps.

We'll have to edge around the conversation a bit, but I think inviting the Earl for tea at some point could be a profitable venture. Not in the capital sense this time, even.

Before that, though, let's get all the info we can on these suspects without putting into circulation that we're looking for info on them.
>>
>>25145885
am alright with this, after we see what the dolls have discovered if anything, if it was a nosferatu, would the dolls have been able to even see what happened? can't they obfuscate most stuff around them?
>>25145885
vindication!
>inb4 Earl is mad with us because we took his shirt
>>
>>25145908
Yes, missing doll now. What do we know. Let's put the pieces together.
>>
>>25145908
The doll? It was once a young, cheerful man by the name of Selim. He had the most fascinating eyes... Well worth preserving. You don't believe he had any family; you took him in off the street. If he had any, they would be long since dead by now; that doll is one of your older ones, and would be almost two centuries old.

Also we ARE talking aloud as we teach Scarlet how to into tea yeah?
>>
>>25145988
did that doll have any latent talents we were possibly aware of? like the fleshcrafting doll

Lets get down to the Doll House now and interview the dolls.
>>
>>25145988
Do we have any ability to track him magically? We have a bit of him I think.
>>
>>25146018
More or less, yes.
>>
>>25145988
So... nothing of note there. At least outwardly. File that info and move on.

Servant time to cap off tonight's activities? I want to see what all our adorable sla- I mean experi- I mean cherished subordinates are up to.
>>
>>25145988
How tragic that it has been removed from our collection.

If nothing else, we must find this interloper to ensure that one retains it's place in the dollhouse.
>>
>>25146032
All the dolls are fleshcrafters.
They've learned by torturing people for hundreds of years. They just needed a spark of knowledge, that's all.
>>
>>25146032
Also, people still don't understand this, so I'll spell it out.

Dolls cannot communicate beyond simple gestures. That's how they're made, so that Isabella can make-believe with them. They have no form of communication that Isabella knows of, because she deliberately built them to be empty playthings for her. Toys don't get to have opinions.
>>
>>25145988
Well, that's one option down.

Can we get a list of our recent visitors to the castle?
Someone took the Doll and showed it to the hunter. (most likely as motivation to show how evil we are)

A list of people to visit in the last 6 months would be great.

We have the list of people we might have pissed off. Once we get the list of visitors, we can cross reference them.

If we find a name connected to both lists, we'll have a lead suspect.
>>
>>25146124
The only people on the list of suspects are ones within a short period of vampire time (IE, within the last decade where not noted.)
>>
>>25146112
When i said interview, I was meaning literally, we can just go down there, say, something along the lines of do any of you have any evidence that suggests who or what took selim, or if he wandered off on his own for some reason. then just let them hand it over.
>>

The most recent one was still a few years ago, could we have not noticed our missing Doll that long?

Option 1. We are retarded level unobservant and Nalus took the Doll years ago.

Option 2. Someone infiltrated our castle recently and stole the Doll then.

Nalus doesn't sound like the covert-ops sort. I think someone else stole the Doll.

That riot in Mori was only 4 years ago.

Did it wreck the holdings of anyone important?

You and Scarlet decide that the obvious first thing to do is scry for the missing doll using the shard of its skin you hold.

Stirring the tea with the shard, you carefully cut your own hand and let the blood run down into the steaming-hot drink.

You focus. This kind of magic works best with a strong emotion behind it… And you have just the fuel in your anger at whomever stole your doll.

Focussing, you let words spill from your mouth unthought.

"Shadow, whisper; breaking chalice.
Flaring candle, blackened malice.
Casting circles, anger zealous,
Hatred kindles, devil jealous!"

The blood sinks into the tea, dying it deep red, and you clutch at Scarlet's wrist with your other hand as the spell takes you fully.

"I am your sweet regret
With protective shell
Gently drag you down
to this dirty hell!"

The saucer cracks under your grip, dropping the cup three inches onto the table, but somehow not a drop of tea is spilled.

"Scream out, treachery!
Everyone just likes to look
I just want to see you
Dancing on a meat hook!"

The spell smashes into your senses, and you are gone. Another place. Another room. The doll, lying on the ground of a cell; it turns to look at you, and then something from beyond your sight crashes into your magical senses. You scream out in your mind, straining against the enchantment that tries to force you from the scene, but it is futile.

You awaken after a few minutes, ravenous, and only a drink from Scarlet's blood-red hair prevents you from attacking her outright- but you need more!

> You gained 40 Hunger by failing an opposed roll!
> You then lost 14 hunger by drinking from Scarlet.
> Your overall hunger is at 61. Roll discipline immediately to prevent yourself from drinking more from the dwindling Scarlet and risking permanent damage to her!

You manage to stop yourself before taking another drink from Scarlet. She flinches away from you, and the sight of her frightened face- which for once you did not intend- snaps you fully from your stupor and back into full control.

The hunger feels like a pit of snakes on fire in your belly. It screams out for something, anything to fill it.

You can control it for now. But you know that the longer you go without feeding the more likely you are to let it loose.

> Your hunger is over 50. You are starving. All tests other than Discipline are at -10 to the stat until your hunger drops under 50. You must roll discipline whenever your hunger increases or immediately feed on the closest living thing. Other stimuli may also trigger this discipline check. When your hunger reaches 75 you will go into an irrecoverable hunger frenzy.
>>
>>25146738
Oh yes, you also must roll discipline to only sip lightly or sip deeply (IE, if you don't succeed in your discipline when feeding you will risk permanent damage to the person you feed on.)

Before the villagers have time to organize an effective defense, you're back with your tin soldiers and your Hound on a leash. Fluffy is salivating in anticipation of the hunt ahead.

The villagers are all grouped in the middle of the village in a disorganized mob, listening to the story the man who saw you is telling.

"Fluffy. Sic'em."

And the villagers scatter like ninepins as the massive, saw-toothed hound plunges into their ranks, leaping on the man who saw your blood-stained from and devouring him whole.

The remaining villagers flee- directly into the shining bayonets of your tin soldiers, who easily spit the few who are frightened enough to try the headlong charge.

Before long, the entire village is trapped between the grinning hound and the blank-faced soldiers. There's about forty in all. Too many to march through the forest all at once.

You nod to Fluffy, and the problem is solved.

Twenty blood-stained, drooling former farmers stumble into your dungeons a few hours later.

Needless to say, you aren't hungry anymore either.

> Your Hunger is now zero.
> Your Hound's hunger is now zero.
> You gained a group of 10 points of Dregs.
> You have seized fifteen holdings in the form of a farming village in Ulvenwald.

Wait...did we bring Scarlet with us?

Because doesn't she have that thing where her hunger goes up for every person she sees die?
>>
>>25147770
Why not just let everybody eat their fill?
>>
>>25147800
No, we didn't.
Luckily.
>>
>>25147825
And I think I'll leave it there for tonight, since undoubtably what's going to happen next is a large discussion of farmerfleshbeasts and how many to keep for chattel purpouses.
>>
>>25147793
Very good.

Let's change out of our filthy cloths and get back to work.
See if we can discern any useful details from that scrying.
>>
>>25147862
You heard the man.
What sort of nature-defying abominations do we want our lovely dolls to make?
>>
>>25147862
Never a dull moment with /tg/ dice, but I guess it all went better than expected. So for next time....

1. Apologize to Scarlet for eating her.
2. Hoboflesh 2.0
3. Take inventory of our servants, put some of them to work.
4. Airships?
5. Investigations?
6. PARTY?

Seems pretty comprehensive.
>>
>>25147919
>Apologize to Scarlet for eating her
Yep, let's do that.

>Investigations?
First, we need to see if we can draw any clues from the scrying. After that, we need to cross reference our list or recent gusts to our list of potential enemies and see who's connected to both.

>Take inventory of our servants,
We were going to sell more slaves to fund our trade-fleet.

>Hoboflesh 2.0
Any that aren't good enough to sell.

>Airships?
These will wait for a few weeks.
1, We need to complete our existing contracts in the air-yard.
2, If we wait until the Mayor is our BFF, we might get a better deal on our trade licence.
3, We need to build up our wealth with slave gold to fund it.

>PARTY?
Maybe later. We have things to do now.
>>
Let's start the hoboflesh idea process now so we don't have to spend as much time on it next thread.

Someone suggested Wolverine claws before, and that might be useful.

We could also make a large-ish fleshbeast out of multiple people that out-muscles everything and can eat cities.

We could also dominate multiple people, then fuse their brains together, do some other stuff, and make an epic level spellcaster.

What else?
>>
>>25147793
Hmm a farming village in the middle of nowhere, what could we possible use that for...

Build some fences around the village and field, transform it into a slave farm-camp. Then throw a bunch of people there + a drug which increases promiscuity = slave factory.

Thoughts?
>>
>>25148085
The logistics would be a pain in the ass.
If we want more slaves, instead of taking years to breed them, just grab some more hobos from Eyesocket.
>>
>>25148085
I'm gonna nip this one in the bud. Not because you couldn't theoretically do it, but because Isabella has this THING about certain kinds of slavery.

Our little loli vampire has few moral standards, but she has more reason than most to have this particular one.
>>
>>25148080
Spy ghouls were suggested (by me, shameless plug) and that seems like it might be taking on new urgency.

>>25148085
I did think of flesh melding agri-horrors yea. Don't think breeding is viable given our time table.
>>
>>25148138
All of my flesh is now crawling.

Sick fuck kept us and our sister as loli sex toys. There will be no forced breeding of slaves.
>>
>>25148138
I see.

Now feeling much less bothered about us having killed our sire.
>>
>>25148211
God we hope we killed him. The alternative is there is an ageless, demi-god pedobear stalking the night.
>>
>>25148233
>>25148211
>>25148194
I reiterate: Vampires are fucked-up 'people'.
>>
>>25148138
Ahh right...well so much for that idea.
>>
>>25148142
>Spy ghouls
Sounds like a good idea. Could be needed soon.

Ideas:
Enchant with a aura of 'nothing to see here, I'm not important.'

Human on the outside but more underneath. Hidden weapons (wolverine claws), flesh-crafted muscle. Enhanced senses. Ect.

Self destruct. If they are caught or killed they'll clean up after themselves. No trails leading back to us.
Acid bladder to dissolve them on death or a fire spell designed to go off when they die. Maybe both; redundancy.
>>
>>25148233
>an ageless, demi-god pedobear stalking the night.

I can not un-think that now.

This is a horror/humor quest.
I think that pretty much sums up the tone right there.
>>
>>25148454
You said our Sires name was also Markova. Can we retcon that so we took a new House Name?

It would seem in character. Considering how much we hated him and how /enthusiastically/ we killed him, it seems a bit odd that we would keep the House Name he gave us.
>>
>>25148596
The House Name can't be changed unless we eat a vampire from another house. All vampires descended from Carmilla have the family name Markova.

Instead, we try to avoid any formal occasion that would require us to use our formal title. This... didn't work out too well after the first few years.

You can see where the mental issues start creeping in, no?
And why we might hate our sister so much?
And why she might have immediately gone into politics?
>>
>>25148682
When we do use the title, we do so with no small degree of spite and enjoy making others choke on it.

Because the Markova name /deserves/ to be dragged through the mud.

Of course, since that title is attached to ourselves...

Final note: next thread is tomorrow at probably roughly the same time.
>>
>>25148682
>>25148720
Okay, new Quest goal.

Keep an eye out for a Vampire with a suitably respectable House Name.
One within our weight limit we can take in a fight.
One that isn't too well connected and won't have a line of people looking to avenge him.

Then we eat him and get a new name.

I wonder if there's a way to combine plant parts into our fleshbeasts.

Think about it. If we can somehow give it fucktons of leaves, then it can use photosynthesis and not have the hunger problems that have been ever so rampant as of late. On top of that, it can be a source of poison, among other things.

Perhaps we could give it what looks like a cloak of leaves, but is actually skin, and then use glamours. Add an aura of unremarkable, and we have a perfect daytime assassin.

The burning idea works here as well, as supposedly plants burn quickly.
>>
Looks like we have quite a number of reasons to get into vampire politics then. 1. Get a new house name. 2. Rise up the social ladder. 3. Get to know our sister better, she could be either a potential ally or an enemy in the future
>>
Argh, I missed all the excitement! Again!

Just a couple of points: should we talk to Earl Blackford again, tell him that the shipyard was doing absolutely beastly, and that we had to plough our own holdings into it just to keep it afloat.

And, if we're feeling bold, add this:

Why, we even had to acquire the use of a numerologist to make sure it wasn't a total flop!

Mentioning Thomas is in order to get other vampires after him; we want him looking to us for protection. "Once involve in vampire business, you don't get out. But I'll protect you!" Give him freer reign, but under our patronage. Allows him to have a good bit of fun on his own while also being able to play with our treasury and make it bigger.
